Sonny's BBQ's dining room was temporarily closed while we visited, but they still had a foodtruck open outside. We ordered at the window and ate our food in front of the restaurant on some big stone blocks. The food was simple and delicious. The ribs I had were so meaty and just what I was craving. The potato salad packed a surprising amount of flavour, and the mac and cheese was super tasty too. Their "spicy" bbq sauce could have been much spicier in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this spot, even if the dining room isn't open.
SOOO GOOD!! I’ve never been to this place before although, I grew up here…ummmm delicious. The atmosphere is so nice and cozy, very quiet. Molly was a great server and made sure we were well taken care of! The portion sizes here are insane for the price, the drinks were huge and the amount of food you get for the price is a deal. Not only that but the food came out so quick and it was fresh. Loved it!!! Would 100% recommend
This was our first time eating there. I went for a brisket sandwich with a soda and a side order. I picked the coleslaw and my husband chose fries to accompany his grilled cheese with brisket. His sandwich is served on garlic toast, and mine comes served in a regular bun... however, the hostess gave me a choice and I went for the garlic toast. Later, I regreted having the garlic toast because it made the sandwich too greasy that even though the brisket was good, it felt like I was biting into an oil soaked bread and then the beef. Thankfully, the customer has the choice of how much BBQ sauce to add. We loved the Sweet, liked the original and the Sizzling (spicy). We liked our sandwiches, but I would skip the garlic bread option next time. I will also opt out of the coleslaw which was warm instead of cold, which to me is unacceptable, and looked like it had been sitting out on that dish for a while. Next time, I probably go for a big sampler platter to share with whoever is with me. The bill came out to $40 including tip. So not that bad considering today's prices. The place is clean and has a rustic look that goes with the BBQ theme. And service was good and timely.
Really good ribs and some well smoked chicken. Stopped in for dinner during our trip. Great place with a friendly staff and a good atmosphere. The portions are really good for the price and the food had some awesome flavors. You also can't beat a gallon (so I exaggerated a bit) of banana pudding for $4.00.
We always drive through Homestead and say that we need to try Sonny’s BBQ and today we actually did. We were served by Nick, he was a literal ANGEL. He was always on top if the table making sure that everything was alright and that we liked everything. Then for the food, I don’t know what we were expecting, but it was AMAZING. The tater tods were super good, then the brisket was the best brisket I’ve ever had. Overall you have to go there, it’s brutal. Again, everyone had an amazing energy, the hostess was super nice when she greeted us, the bartenders said hi, Nick was incredible as a server and even the kitchen staff gave us a farewell. It was simply an amazing example of hospitality💓
Very yummy food and lovely atmosphere. Felt like a backyard BBQ and I loved it. The sweet tea is great! And I got the brisket grilled cheese and fries. Both are incredibly yummy! Plus they have 4 homemade BBQ sauces that were so good to try.
First time eating at a Sunny's BBQ and it was great. The pulled pork, potato salad, grilled chicken and mañana cheese great awesome and very tasty. Randy was super helpful and hit the spot with the recommendations. Really had a good time.
Had a amazing time at the Florida city Sonny's!! The food was absolutely delicious!! And the service was outstanding!! The food was hot and came out fast!! My waitress Nikki did an awesome job making me feel welcome and helping me!! Will come again!!!
To me best dry rub ribs great sides
They have all you can eat ribs, you need to know nothing else. Just go there and eat all the ribs you can.
The restaurant is currently closed due to a fire. However, they are serving curbside. The service I received was exceptional by one of their employees taking orders next to the tent through the drive thru line. She was great! I did not get her name, but she mentioned she was pretty new only had been working for like a month or so prior to the fire. She is a jewel!
Sonny's Bbq has of the best food around. The baby back ribs were well seasoned, juicy and soft. The bbq beans were delicious and had small pieces of meat inside. Same goes for the chicken beef and pork, delicious. The burgers aren't the best in town, but still very tasty and filling. Sebastian is a great server and was very helpful on our first trip here earlier this month. Everytime we come (day or night) the place is clean and the staff are inviting. The food here is consistantly great. Always from order to table very quickly. This is a family friendly place, also it seems to be a police hang out. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!
Loved everything ordered. Couldn't dine in. Loved the food.
Emilia and Melanie were great food was awesome
Fab BBQ place with top pit masters at it core. The baby back ribs I had were gorgeous, tender, melt in the mouth. I enjoyed the refil sweet tea which was the perfect drink for me. Hubby had the louisiana sweet and spicy ribs, cooler than mine when served, very delicious and tender meat though. The kids had a good time and said they enjoyed their food too, as well as the menu entertainment. Really enjoyed ourselves, waiters were attentive but not constantly there which is a good balance. The only downside for me was eating off a plastic plate.
“Ribs, Roads, and Ridiculous Deliciousness – 2015 Never Tasted So Good!” We stopped at Sonny's BBQ back in 2015, and let me tell you — it’s still one of the most glorious, smoky, sauce-covered food memories we’ve ever had. We still talk about it. Sometimes we dream about it. Sometimes we wake up craving ribs at 2 a.m. and whisper, “Sonny’s…” into the void. First off: Location, location, location. Right off S Dixie Highway, practically begging you to pull in. Whether you’re heading to the Keys, escaping Miami, or just pretending to be on a road trip to justify eating BBQ at 3 PM — this place is perfectly placed. We didn’t even need to think about it. Blink, and boom: Ribs. Now, the food. Sweet, smoky heaven. We ordered the ribs. (Obviously.) And they were the kind of ribs that make you pause mid-bite just to process what’s happening in your mouth. Fall-off-the-bone tender, beautifully charred on the outside, and slathered in that glorious BBQ sauce that makes your fingers sticky and your soul happy. We may have stopped talking altogether during the meal — just a table full of people making “mmm” sounds and staring lovingly at smoked meat. The sides were also great (mac and cheese, cornbread, baked beans — all the classics, all on point), but let’s be honest: we came for the ribs, and the ribs delivered like a smoky punch to the tastebuds. Service was fast, friendly, and totally chill. Classic BBQ joint vibes — no fuss, no pretense, just meat and happiness. Pro tip: Wear something loose. You’ll want the extra space. Trust us. If you're in Homestead and your GPS says you're anywhere near Sonny's, turn in. Don’t argue. Just follow the smoke and the joy. Five stars. Ten napkins. Zero regrets. (Visited in 2015, still recovering in the best way.)
Very good BBQ, I ordered the sampler. Ribs were incredibly tender and just the right amount of smokiness, brisket was flavorful, juicy and the proper texture, garlic bread was perfect, sauces were amazing, beans were delicious and again the perfect texture and flavor. Only wish I swapped the coleslaw for mac & cheese instead of fries. Service was “technical” and fast, but wish I was asked if I wanted dessert (I did) before being brought the check. Definitely one of the top places for BBQ in Miami.
In Florida this might have been the best place we ate at that was not seafood oriented. Great smiles from the staff. Food was on point.
Amazinggggg food, excellent service and a terrific atmosphere. Coming back for sure!!
Truly the best brisket I’ve ever had. Will definitely go back.
Looking for good BBQ?! Stop by Sonny’s. Portion sizes are typical for BBQ joints (but lacking for me) but the flavor is not. And a plus is that they have a drive thru, for those that don’t always want to go into a brick and mortar. We ordered the sampler and fried okra. The cornbread is mediocre but the toast is pretty good.
Wow I haven't been here in a while but it has inky gotten better. The whole place has been updated! The BBQ is awesome, very good flavor and the price for what you get makes it even better. The staff is also very friendly. I ordered the all you can eat ribs. They offer sauces on the table and they are very good. I highly recommend you give it a try.
Perfect stop along our Key West road trip. Chopped brisket was our favorite! Pulled chicken was even better with their smokin’ bbq sauce. Smoked wings were delicious without sauce. Turkey was not dry. Potato salad was good. Cornbread tasted fresh. Beans were sweet and savory. Service was friendly and appreciated (especially for 9pm on a Sunday). Plan to return someday!
Me & My Chef - Just so you know ….The BBQ egg rolls are a must have! Months ago I would’ve said BBQ and egg roll do not go together! Not sure what’s happened to me, this not only sounded delicious, but is a perfect combination of crunchy and soft with lots of pork and mild pepper jack cheese inside! And the sauce….tangy and tasty!!!
I had an amazing experience at Sonny’s BBQ thanks to Tracy! She was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. Her positive attitude and great service really stood out and made my visit enjoyable. You can tell she truly cares about her customers. Thank you, Tracy, for making my meal even better — I’ll definitely be back!
At first, the place may seem like a fast food restaurant, but it’s far from it! It’s very cozy and offers great food. I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys BBQ dishes and wants them at a very reasonable price. Our server was very kind! She asked where we were from, brought coloring materials for the kids while we waited for the food, and helped us with the menu choices, giving excellent recommendations!
I had the pleasure of getting my order taken by Ms. Tracy! She was so nice, very helpful and professional! Our food was hot, fresh and so delicious! 😋🤤🥰 We didn’t have to wait long for our food. Everything including the employees was great! 10/10 will recommend! Thanks again Ms.Tracy! See you soon! 😂😋💕🫶🏽 and yes it’s that good I already want to go back! 😂🤷🏽♀️💕🫶🏽
Back in 2017, I was road-tripping through Florida and figured, hey, gotta try some real American barbecue. That's how I found Sonny's, and it was love at first bite! Even though it was a busy Saturday night, I got a table super fast. The staff were awesome – friendly, quick, and always checking to make sure I had everything I needed. My food came out in a flash, and man, it was SO good. I ordered a mix of meats, and every single one was juicy, flavorful, and totally hit the spot. Plus, the prices were fair. I've been back to Sonny's a few times since then (2022 and 2024), and it's always been consistently delicious. On my last visit, Chace who served us was super cool and attentive. If you're craving some barbecue and awesome service, Sonny's BBQ is the place.
Saw a billboard, checked Google reviews and decided to stop. Got the unlimited dry rub ribs which were AMAZING!! HANDS DOWN the best restaurant ribs I've had. Salad bar was $3 to add, which if you made a good salad, and like chopped vegetables it was a good deal. Service was excellent. Tables were clean, food came quick. Really enjoyed this!!
Two of the waitresses Michelle and Molly are absolute sweethearts I ordered all you can eat ribs the first batch was fantastic the first reorder would have gave two pitbulls a run for their money they were so tough however after bringing it to the waitresses attention the next batch was very good all in all a great atmosphere and all the ribs you can eat what more can you want be sure and ask for Molly warm Michelle tell them Dennis Miller thank you 😎
For this Sonny's it was a great experience. Not only is the food awesome but the service was outstanding. From a very nice hostess to the waiter it was nothing but smiles and pleasantries. I always reserve 5 stars for outstanding service etc .. and Sonny's earned it. As a tourist I popped in here on my way to Marathon Key for dinner. Just what a traveler needed. It was a Wednesday evening about 6:30 pm and plenty of seating. If your hungry and need taken cared of I recommend a stop.
This place is awesome!! I dont normally lick my fingers, because im an adult, but I most definitely did. Monica Was our waitress, she Was attentive but gave us our space . Was on top of everything and super friendly. When you come to Florida City this is a place to visit. The staff is friendly and immediately greet you when you walk thru the door. I was seated in less then 5 minutes.
The restaurant was closed for renovations but the food truck staff was very nice and attentive. The food is INCREDIBLE! Can't wait for the restaurant to reopen.
After a long day of traveling, i was able to be greeted with phenomenal food and respect from staff. Specifically Amelia and Melanie who helped make my visit much more incredible.
Love coming here. We were bummed when we got there to find out it was under construction & restaurant part was closed. Drive thru was opened & they had a food truck to order from. Picnic tables outside. The food was as good as always. The service was great. Definitely will be back.
Experiencia 100% americana! Toda la comida estaba buenísima y la atención del personal ha sido excelente. Como español, ha sido una experiencia muy agradable. 100% American experience! All the food was delicious, and the staff was excellent. As a Spaniard, it was a very pleasant experience.
Tried this place for the first time and ordered the baby back ribs with baked beans and coleslaw. The food was absolutely delicious, ribs were tender and flavorful, and the sides complemented them well. However, the service was disappointingly slow, which took away from the overall experience. If they can improve on that, this would be a top-notch spot. Would definitely come back for the food, but hoping for better service next time!
This review could have been easily been 5 stars. My official review is 4.5. Firstly, customer service was on point. Michelle is a rockstar - very nice and suggestive. The place itself is very well decorated. Suitable for a family setting or just to grab a beer and some BBQ. Food: I highly recommend the BBQ chicken, beans, st Louis ribs, and the fries were awesome. The garden salad also tasted very fresh, which anyone can appreciate. The brisket - wish it was more tender and the beef burger was average. Overall, I would go back and maybe try their wings and a cold brew. Maybe catch a game. Lastly, and very important - the prices seem very reasonable unlike many other places these days.
Casual place for various types of meat. Everything was good, no complaints. Not necessarily anything unique as compared to similar bbq style restaurants. They have a list of allergens if you ask for it, which explains each item on the menu and if it has dairy, gluten, etc.
Pretty good BBQ served fast. I was surprised to find a food truck where I thought there would be a restaurant, but no biggie. Minus one star for having a picture of BBQ meatballs, but it's only available for catering.
We were met at the door by a friendly and energetic hostess who seated us immediately. Baby back ribs were on special so that's what we ordered. Sides were baked beans and fries with a slab of Texas toast. To drink we had iced tea. The tea came out first in a huge glass and was good. The ribs were lean and well cooked and slathered with their classic BBQ sauce. They could have been less sauced only because there were several squeeze bottles of other sauces to try. The beans were excellent tasting and loaded with pork. The toast was very good too. The fries, unfortunately, were the crinkle cut frozen variety and sub par. So 4 stars verging on 5
Lady up front taking order expediting was top level forgot her name just excellent suggestion and service
Stopped in to place a to-go order last week (May 14th). Food was good but staff made me feel like I was an imposition to their routine. Took several minutes to be acknowledged and even then given the brush off by senior staff at the door / register. Eventually, she had to take the order herself - and then forgot the beans. Upside was single order was enough for two or leftovers.
Usually stop by this place every time i go to the Keys, but this time the interior seating was unexpectedly closed with no explanation.
Very good barbeque. The pulled pork, quarter chicken, and dry rubbed babyback ribs were all very tasty. The greenbean and broccoli sides were both good. The fried okra appetizer was very good. Sonny's Amber Ale was delicious, and it was served in a nice frosty mug. The service was prompt and friendly. Parking was free and convenient.
Ordered the Wednesday special of the day - St.Louis dry-rubbed ribs with a whole corn on the Cobb & a baked sweet potato. And my hubby ordered a brisket sandwich with baked beans. The food was very good, however, the service was nothing to write home about, just average. The place is nice and clean inside since they remodeled and it even has a separate bar area. I would definitely go back again.
I went to Sonny’s today. The ribs, fried okra and coleslaw was good. Also, the chicken and rib combo was good as well. The corn was dry and overcooked in both combos. The experience was pretty good until I went back to exchange the corn on the comb. The young lady who helped me was very pleasant and apologetic. After getting a new set of corn, I still wasn’t satisfied so I went back in the restaurant. When I went inside and stood at the counter waiting to be helped. A man came in from the side door and immediately a different young lady (not the one that was pleasant) came to offer him assistance. I thought that was quite strange, since I had already been standing there and she never acknowledged me. I told the pleasant young lady what happened and she apologized. It’s sad to say that as I celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday today, I still had to deal with Foolishness like this. It’s possible that this young lady did not recognize how programmed her mind was to acknowledge the Caucasian over the African American, but unfortunately this is the world in which we live.
The main restaurant had a fire so currently they serve from their food truck outside. Food was still good. Recommend the chopped brisket. Baked bean were good, need a bit more of a brown sugar maple taste. Tasted a bit tomato-y. Don't recommend the mac n cheese though. Was a great option for a food stop coming from Miami airport on the way to The Keys.
The restaurant caught on fire so it's closed. However, they are still serving customers from a food truck. They are fast and efficient. The food never disappoint. Everytime im in the Homestead area, I always go to Sonny's BBQ since most of them shut down. Its a little pricey but the food is good!
I and my family come from Hollywood to Florida City to eat at Sonny's BBQ which says a lot; we also like the upgrade to the restaurant, it reminds us of Q39 BBQ in Missouri. 2/25/23 Let me say this, now and then you get an ok server that doesn't live up to the service that you are accustomed to from Sonny's BBQ. Unfortunately, this was Justin, but the food was good. I was fortunate to have the pleasure to talk to another server who works for Sonny's for a long time the server had nothing but good things to say about Sonny's BBQ and the Franchise owner KUDOS to the owner. While having a conversation with the server about the food at Sonny's the server ask did you ever tried the beef brisket I said no maybe next time ten minutes later the server brought some beef brisket to our table for us to try and they were good that is years of being a server knowing when to give a little to get a customer for life. SHOUT OUT to Kellie she was a pleasure to meet and a GEM at Sonny's BBQ giving us a little history lesson of another Sonny's BBQ location in West Palm Beach which I patronize before they closed what a loss. Thank you Kellie keep being OUTSTANDING! Because of you, my experience was better today.
Currently a food truck while building is being renovated. Ordered The 4 meat plate. The Brisket was amazing on its own without BBQ sauce (tender, and flavorful)! The chicken and pork were moist and tender but not much flavor. Needed bbq sauce. The sausage was typical. The beans and fries were good.
Currently, the restaurant appears closed, probably due to remodeling. I noticed a food truck in front and was able to order from there. They had a couple of picnic tables to use. It looked like the primary traffic was for take out.
It was ok. Don’t expect anything special , the restaurant is shut down and looks abandoned. In order to get your food, you have to go to a food truck. So don’t waste your time like I did to sign up for anything online. The menu is completely different and it’s pretty limited. Cost a little bit more and my small appetizer was a six out of a 10, I ate it because I was hungry
We found Sonny’s BBQ drive through during a pit stop in the city of Florida, FL.At $44 bill we got plenty of meats but really sweet sides!! We got the Sonny sampler with 4 meats and the Dry Rub ribs meal.Four ribs were extra fatty! We strongly suggest to add options for customers watching their sugar intake as every item was sugar loaded! Please stop using sufar with coleslaw or offer pickles as alternative..This mesl could have been better in more than one way. Get inspiration from BBQ Mission!!!
I had lunch in this restaurant and had a good experience overall. The staff is nice. The restaurant had capacity to accommodate clients without previous reservation and keeping social distance. The menu really didn't fit my expectations. They do not offer choice of steak. I was not aware. The food was good and well served. The price was ok.
Found this on the way back from the keys and Ill say its pretty mediocre. I was really excited reading the description for the Red neck egg rolls and was highly disappointed, it was practically flavorless and super oily... My main was the Sweet ribs with a side of macaroni and cheese & French fries again I was disappointed. The fries seemed like frozen bag fries the max and cheese is like a cheese sauce and the ribs although not awful not great either.
Me and my s/o went and the food was good. I got the pulled chicken sandwich with garlic bread bun and he got the full rack ribs. My sandwich was kinda dry and I had to drench it with bbq sauce. The ribs were delicious tho. Smoked bbq ribs. But I just wish It was a bigger rack. It was a little overpriced with how small the rack was. Over all the food was good. But I have had better. No hate tho
This place used to be really good, but the quality and prices are just crazy lately. $27 for a “lean” brisket dinner to get 3 small slices of brisket that were 75% fat. $7 for two bites of banana pudding and 5 nilla wafers . Unacceptable. Only for the 2* is my kids’ chicken tenders were decent.
The restaurant is still closed due to a fire in April. The website idicates it is open, but a food truck supplies a limited menue for take out. We drove almost 40 miles to eat at Sonny's, and wound up going elsewhere.
I arrived and checked in , my order couldn’t be found . After waiting and handing my phone over to verify my order , it still couldn’t be found. So I checked the to go orders , my order was there . One item in my order was missing, I order 2 of the 2 pc cornbread and only got one . If I pay for something let me have it. Bad experience after going to Sonny’s for 20 years.
I frequently order from Sonny's. I've gone there since my childhood. I'm now married with two kids, and we've still frequented to this day. This is, however, my first order since the renovation I believe. I spent 96 dollars on this order and received cold fries, and very obviously old and congealed mac and cheese. We also ordered 2 banana puddings like we've anyways done. I audibly gasped when I saw it was a THIRD of the portion size they've always given. Not only that, but there was one tiny banana piece and one soggy villa wafer in it. I'm genuinely disappointed because I know this is not how it was in the past.
Been coming here for years. Haven't been since the fire. Decided to go last night after work and saw there is only a food truck for pickup outside. Ok fine. Ordered 2 brisket dinners one with fries and mac n cheese, one with fries and baked beans, side of okra and corn nuggets. When I got home 25 minutes away. No fries at all. Corn nuggets very small not usual amount. Disappointed after spending over $60 and the 2 people in the food truck couldn't even remember the fries?! Can't call anyone because the phone goes to a voice mail that's not even set up. Ridiculous. Very disappointing.
This place has gone downhill. We ordered takeout, and by the time we got it, the food was a mess. The Brisket was soo dry. The taters tots were mushy, cold, and greasy.
It was usually a very good restaurant with very good food but the last 2 times it has not been very satisfactory. Today being the worst, after waiting in the car for more than 30 minutes they tell me that they do not have sweet potato, if I wanted tater tots I needed to keep waiting longer, I ordered macaroni and cheese and the portion was barely half a cup.I got out of my car and spoke to the manager asking him for an explanation that after spending more than $75 we expecting better quality of food, not food served in cups, he told me that's how they were working now 👎They lost me and my family as a customer, I think we deserve better service.
it's a very successful restaurant, but need to put attention to the little details that make it looks bad...you can enjoy not just an excellent American Grill cuisine , but the juiciest freshest ribs in the area, by food flavors and plate presentation it deserves 5 stars, but the lost 4 stars in my humble review, is because the way of doing business...the "all you can" it is a nightmare service; first , the waitress serve you five ribs rack, then you expect nothing but nonstop ribs service, however you have to ask for more ribs, they service you two ribs portion, once you consume it, then you have to ask again for more, they service you 2-3 ribs portion again and so on, in addition you will be over watched by the waitress to prevent costumer sharing plates, even when we ordered different plates...really ? we was told that is the manager instructions; otherwise nice personal...the restaurant looks impeccable with very clean floor, the bathroom looks clean and odorous; again very good food, and very tasty recipes; place very well organized; ribs and meats are in the top of the menu, also there is plenty of fresh veggies that you can enjoy and mix; great plates variety; great drinks variety in the bar...so HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED, except if they could fix "all you can eat" service
Update: send a mail to Sonny’s, no reply. Nice Ambiente. Waiting time for drinks and food was not acceptable. Got the Tuesday ribs all you can eat, meat stick to the bone. Not tender at all. Ordered second plate of the all you can eat ribs (dry or bbq rub) Waited 45 min. Was not even hot, rather light warm. Would not recommend. Waiter was even forget everything and was rather Interested to dress her hairs.
I usual love going to my local Sonny's but today was the worst. We got here just before dinner rush and the restaurant wasn't packed yet. Our waiter Sebastian started fine but gradually got worse. We received our redneck rolls with no plates after he asked if we wanted plates and my wife said yes. I ordered an AYCE and was only able to get the ribs I ordered first because the second order of sliced pork he never bought to me. I asked him to take off the AYCE which he did. The food we ate was good but the service was below the standards of Sonny's. Maybe he had too many tables or just wasn't with it but if I go to a place to spend my hard earned money, I expect it to be better than this. And to add insult to injury my wife had to ask for a doggy bag twice and no take home cups were offered. Come on Sonny's please recoach and train your employees.
