I have been to The Fort multiple times. Whenever I come to Denver I eat here. It's by far my favorite restaurant in the entire world. It's peaceful, has an incredible view, the wait staff is always friendly and I'm a meat eater so there's that! Highly recommend you put it on your list of things to do when you come to the Denver/Golden area.

Tonight’s dinner at The Fort in Morrison was next-level. I’ve eaten at some incredible spots, but this one shot straight into my top five. We kicked things off with the Peanut Butter Stuffed Jalapeño Escabeche and Josefa’s Buffalo Empanadas—both were absolute fire. For the main course, I went all in on The Fort’s Game Plate: buffalo medallion, elk chop, and quail. Every bite was dialed in. My wife went with the Akaushi Beef Ribeye—bold flavor and cooked perfectly. My cousin (the birthday girl) chose the “Tenderlips” Colorado Filet Mignon and didn’t leave a single scrap behind. We wrapped it up with their bread pudding, which definitely held its own. The menu is stacked, and there are still a bunch of dishes I’d love to try. Sadly, it was our last night in Colorado—guess I’ve got a reason to come back. The outdoor seating offers a stunning view of the valley, and the whole experience—from food to service—was solid all around. If you’re in the Denver area, The Fort is a must. 📍Morrison, CO 🥩 Wild game, steaks, and frontier vibes 🎂 Birthday dinner done right #TheFortRestaurant #MorrisonCO #DenverEats #ColoradoDining #FoodieFinds #GameMeat #BuffaloSteak #RibeyeLovers #FiletMignon #FoodAdventure #TravelEats #VacationDinner #EpicEats #MountainViews #DinnerWithAView #BirthdayDinner #BreadPuddingLove #WesternCuisine #EatLikeALocal #Foodstagram Follow me on IG @hungry_dude_usa

Just WOW! This place embraces its history, and the vibe is upscale yet relaxed. A fun special occasion spot. They appeared to have a magician doing card tricks in the patio too. We had the snake appetizer which was fun and light. And the quail with that huckleberry sauce was great. Lots of food, but worth it.

We had an absolutely wonderful night and can’t wait to come back with family. Sam Many Winds played the flute while we ate, and talked with us about Native American history as well as the restaurants history which was such a treat! The food was all incredible and the drinks were fabulous as well. The views of the mountains are absolutely gorgeous and it’s such a peaceful cozy setting! 10/10 recommend.

Denver restaurant week, tried The Fort in Morrison, Colorado. Buffalo steak medium rare, probably the first time in my life I went to a restaurant and they cooked the steak right. Grilled quail, and my first time trying Rocky Mountain oysters(bull testicles) lol it was not bad. But the restaurant week special $45 for a 4 course meal was 👌🏻 service was especially great also!

The desserts are worth the trip alone. Probably one of the best chocolate desserts I've ever had and they have two others that I didn't get to try. The dark chocolate s'mores tart is to die for. The house salad with the chipotle honey dressing is also exceptional. The steaks are very good and well prepared. And of course you get an old west ambience for something unique. Very lovely drive out.

This place was very good. The Akaushi rib eye steak was incredible. Really nice atmosphere with relaxing music including occasional live music.

It was a great atmosphere and great food. The food was wild game that included bison, quail, elk and other wild game. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was really neat.

Enjoyed the view and the atmosphere!! Food was great. Our server was attentive and friendly. We shared the Mountain Man “Boudies” Sausage Platter. I had the Mountains Meet the Sea with Buffalo and Lobster Tail.

Tried Bison steak for the first time and the Fort did not disappoint. Highly recommended. We ordered the oysters and buffalo bone marrow as appetizers. And the buffalo steak was delicious. We will definitely come back.

We came here for the first time during restaurant week 2025. We made reservations ahead of time and let them know about my service dog and they were completely accommodating. The wine menu is overwhelming, so I ordered an elderberry martini at the recommendation of our server Kari which turned out to be the best decision of the day. The Salad has pickled ginger, which I’ve never had before and was awesome. I would order the game plate on repeat for the rest of my life. The restaurant looks like it’s part of red rocks Park so the view is stunning. Saw another review that implied that this place was overpriced, I felt the opposite. I was shocked We got out the door for what we did. We’re early on, but so far this restaurant takes first place for our favorite restaurant week this year. do yourself a favor and ask for Kari to be your server.

This place was absolutely amazing. One of the best meals I have ever had. The portions were very filling. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly down to every side and appetizer. The staff were very knowledgeable and had great input on the dishes and drinks they offered. The environment was very comfortable and not too loud. Please do yourself a favor and try this restaurant!

I came to The Fort to celebrate my boyfriend and I's anniversary and wow what a unique exterior that matched the name of the restaurant so well! Our server Adam was so sweet and had the best recommendations as it was our first time there. We started off with the Historian Platter, which had a great assortment of their popular appetizers. It was a great value to try a little bit of everything, and I did enjoy everything except the peanut butter stuffed jalapeños mostly because they were chilled, but the flavor was delish! The salad was divine with the chipotle honey dressing, super fresh and don't even get me started on the pumpkin muffins that come on the side! For my main course I had the duck which was so tender and flavorful, however I wasn't a big fan of the wild rice. We saved room for dessert to do their crème brule, so so delicious all in all an amazing experience all the way through. Thank you to our server Adam for making our anniversary so special!

My husband and I went for our anniversary this year. I tried the "prairie butter" bone marrow for the first time.🤤😋 OMG it was a melt in your mouth moment. We ordered the Buffalo prime rib and the Buffalo rib eye "carne asada style". Both were perfectly prepared. We shared a salted caramel creme brulee for dessert which was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to go back since it's one of our favorite places. 😋🤤🥰💖

Yum! Everything we ate was delicious. The drinks, both cocktail and mocktail variety, were great. We started dinner with the bone marrow and the bison egg appetizers. They both had unique flavors and I would order them again! I also enjoyed that we were able to order half orders of both of these appetizers. Next was the salad and bread course and typically I wouldn't even comment on this but the salad was enjoyable and the bread was obviously freshly made. For entrees we chose the duck and the fort's game plate and we added the Mac n cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly and the Mac n cheese had an Instagram worthy cheese pull. We ended the night with desserts of cheesecake and the chocolate chile bourbon cake. Needless to say we enjoyed everything we ate. The views and the aesthetic alone are worth visiting the fort for and the service was superb. I can't wait to go back and try something else!

I was afraid this was going to be touristy and cheap- but the reviews convinced me to give it a try. I’m so glad we did- the food was such a fun departure from normal options but not intimidating. We had the Rocky Mountain Oysters (not from the sea as our server reminded us LOL), the duck crostini, elk steak, and lamb chops. Not pictured is the cherry pie which we took to go, since we were so full. Everything was top notch and presented very well, and even though the restaurant was full, it wasn’t loud. The wine list was INCREDIBLE, and while I had something else picked out from Napa, it was suggested I try this Chilean wine, which went really well with our meals. I’m sorry I don’t remember our server’s name, but he was polite, friendly, and gave helpful menu suggestions.

I tasted the rabbit and rattle snake dish and it’s so good Love the outdoors vibe and views Reservation highly recommended Good food and friendly waitress All food we had was excellent The duck was 10/0

It was well worth it. The food, the ambiance, the service everything. Our server was super knowledgeable and remembered everything, checked in right on time. The building is also very well done, depicts history and makes you picture what life could have been like.

The place is stunning ascetically. It truly looks like a fort! We had reservations and no wait to be seated when we arrived. The service was outstanding, with multiple people attending to our table of 6, without being intrusive. The menu is very extensive and everything everyone got was delicious. The attention to detail was very impressive, every plate that came out was clearly set up with care. There was a native American gentleman walking table to table playing the flute. He explained cultural traditions and how the flute is handed down. He definitely added to the experience. Ok, the place isn't cheap, with drinks and appetizers (no room for dessert), we paid just over $100/person but all of us thought it was well worth it! It's not just a great dinner, it's a unique and memorable experience!

Was very delicious! My wife and I want to celebrate our Anniversary. The service made it a memorable night. We started off with some mocktails to drink. I had the prickly pear which was nice and refreshing. Then for our appetizer, we had the bone marrow. I'm not usually a fan but whew! I would come back just for that!! So good the hot sauce. Then they brought the salad which we chose Cesar. It has Italian sardine fillets, which I wasn't a fan of. Also, I would have liked maybe just a little more of the dressing. The rolls...those were delicious. The pumpkin walnut muffins were outstanding! We both had the Bison prime rib special which came with mashed potatoes and green beans and gravy. The prime rib and potatoes were cooked to perfection. The green beans I could give or take. However that gravy...you could put that on anything and it would be delicious!! Just give me a bowl of that!! Then we had dessert which was a chocolate peppermint mousse, and also we had a bread pudding with ice cream. They were pretty good as well. Will definitely try and come back again!! We shall see after the new owners.

this was part of a new cultural program that the fort has started. last night on the patio they had a program called echos of the drum indigenous people dancing and explaining pieces of their culture and way of life with a four course meal. i can't begin to talk the praises of the staff. even those programs seem to be for older adults they graciously helped us with ticketing with my kids who are pretty into indigenous culture. we arrived way too early as well but there was a place below which looked like a wedding space and let my kids run to get the wiggles out. they also graciously allowed us to use the bathroom before the doors opened. the meal was a great opportunity to teach my kids table setting and different service options. there was alot of food served family style mollasses beans, rice, huckleberry cake, pumpkin soup just a wonderful evening altogether.

Went with friends for a special occasion - the food was delicious and the setting truly beautiful, with views of the city lights. Service was impeccable, and such a great variety of food that one doesn't typically get to enjoy!

Great spot for a special occasion. We had dinner on the patio and the views were absolutely stunning. Food and drinks were all great. Especially liked the prickly pear margarita and the Rocky Mountain Oysters. Everyone enjoyed their various steaks. Service was great and spaced out the meal perfectly.

Tasty game meals in a great atmosphere with ideal western views. Had the buffalo sirloin medallion, bone-in elk chop and teriyaki quail, with Fort potatoes and mac-n-cheese. All of the food was delicious and staff was very accommodating. A bit pricey but reasonably worth the unique experience.

The cuisine is very diverse. You can try exotic dishes, like snake meat. It's a beautiful place with interesting architecture.

Went for the thanksgiving special plate, was so good and had specialty drinks and cocktails, had the sausage plate as an appetizer and the rattlesnake/rabbit ine was especially good. Highly recommended and great service and good food. Highly recommend the smoked cocktail

Excellent, a restaurant in a beautiful setting, with excellent service. As for the food, it was absolutely succulent, a discovery meal between rattlesnakes, buffalo, bull oyster, rabbit... Everything is well cooked. I highly recommend this place

This place is not just a restaurant, it is a dining experience! From the beginning to end, it was an absolutely fantastic experience! Our server was very attentive and friendly, making us feel very welcomed. We started off with the trade whiskey which has pepper-infused whiskey and real gunpowder (it was delicious)! The sausage sampler appetizer was delicious as was the buffalo bone marrow, some of the best I've ever had. I finished off with the herb butter bison filet mignon. The quality of the meat was amazing and it was perfectly cooked! It was all finished off by the amazing scenery and ambiance. This is worth a trip from ANYWHERE!!

Awesome place! Wonderful people come here. It's completely unique. The Buffalo 🦬 ribs were extraordinary! Our friends 31st Anniversary dinner was made very special with a special chant and furry Buffalo horn helmets. One of a kind. It ain't cheap, but worth every penny if you're appreciative of what you get!! 👌👍👍👍🌄🥰

Top tier restaurant. Impeccable service. Great views of Denver. Beef, bison and elk are on the menu and prepared tobperfection. Great place for that special dinner. A bit pricey for us ordinary folks, but if you want to impress, this place should do the trick. We went for our 37th anniversary and were very pleased.

We had an amazing time for my son’s 50th birthday! What a memorable, cultural delight! So warm & homey, our food was unbelievably good! The staff was so welcoming & helpful! Everything about the Fort made for such a memorable experience we’ll never forget! Thank you so much for what you all do for your customers! 💙

Great food and service. Chris the general manager is always walking around and making sure that everything is perfect. He interacts with the guest so that if they have any questions he is able to answer them. Not one of those how are you doing and walks away. We had a 15- 20 minute conversation with him and he never made you feel like you were taking up his time.

We decided to splash out for our anniversary - I’d never been there before and was determined to try Prairie Oysters. We were a little early but were shown to a table at once. ( The waitresses in their lovely skirts were a delight). Order taken and service was very prompt and efficient. Prairie oysters were a bit of a disappointment, small pieces with lots of breadcrumbs but my husband’s empanadas were light and very tasty. For the main course I had the game platter, good presentation and perfectly cooked, the quail was particularly delicious. He had duck which he thoroughly enjoyed. As it was a celebration our dessert was complimentary - crème brûlée and bread pudding. Altogether a lovely meal - we knew it wouldn’t be cheap so were prepared for the bill. We’ll certainly come again and we’re pleased to see the place so full on a Sunday evening.

I am visiting here from New Orleans and can't think of a better spot to kick off my vacation. You really feel transported into a western comfort zone. The ambience is warm (literally. There's fire pits everywhere!!). The food was comfortable and creative. Game lovers, you will need a few visits to enjoy all the different choices from rabbit to bison, from rattlesnake to buffalo. Service was inviting and very well informed. Never needed to ask for refills or more attention. They were always just on it! Also, some really great photo ops. And I'm not a big photo person, but you just gotta stop and admire the decor authenticity. Well run all the way around. Thanks for making my visit start off with such warm and delicious grub, ya'll!!!

Recently had a family dinner with the Fort. The atmosphere is always a pleasant experience with the authentic south western decor. The menu with the steaks and game meats are a complement to it all. The food and drinks are top notch, excellent quality. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Although during peak hours there may be a need for additional assistant support staff as the servers can have their time intervals to check on us reduced. As I spend and tip $$$$ on dinners I do hopefully anticipate service above and beyond. Overall I am pleased with everything and always return and highly recommend.

Last night (02/09/26) was amazing! We were taken of care by Cali and Andia. The service we recieved was top notch, both were very friendly and very professional. We really enjoyed the food as well. We got the Mountain Man "Boundies" Sausage Platter for starters, then they gave us each a salad then a couple bread rolls and pumpkin muffins. Then for the main course I had The Fort's Game Plate and my girl got the Mountains Meet the Sea. Both dishes were fantastic! Very delicious, seasoned spot on and cooked to perfection. It was my girlfriends (now fiance) and I's 7 year anniversay. I wanted to propose and Cali helped me make it special! We put the ring in the creme brulee (complimentary for the occasion and I cannot thank them enough for that) so she saw it when it was brought over. We opted to do the head dress and fun chant, it made the proposal even more special. Thank god she said yes XD. My fiance and I really enjoyed our time at The Fort last night and will definetly be going again. Chris the manager was also very kind and friendly, we had a nice chat about the Quail and other events and themed dinners they have. I do also have to thank both The Fort and Cali for the cook book gift to us for the proposal. We are very appreciative of this gift to help us remember this spectacular night, but I know we can't cook as well as they do. ;)

Went to The Fort Saturday for Valentines Day, our third visit there in the last several months, every visit worth 5 stars! Attentive service, outstanding and creative food and a fun and unique atmosphere. Realized The Fort is more than a place for special occasions or for taking out of town guests, it is a top notch steakhouse with a bit of history, highly recommend!

Stopped at this cute place for a business lunch. They had nice fire pits setup and a beautiful view. Service was good but they messed up a few of our drinks multiple times throughout the lunch. Appetizers were OK and the taco bar they setup was also OK but I think they accidentally dumped too much spicy in the bison meat 🥵 it was HOT! We had leftover money on our tab and couldn’t drink anymore so they gave us a bottle of wine which was really nice.

The service and atmosphere is great! Very personal hospitality - as in we were in a large group and I was needing non alcoholic beverages and they remembered to bring them to me without being asked! The Christmas carolers were awesome and visited for quite some time at our table. The food was tasty, smaller on the portion sizes, but flavorful. The rattlesnake appetizer was pretty good too! We had the game plate with bison, elk, and quail and a beef filet mignon for our entrees. The cheesecake was delicious and so was the chocolate cake. I definitely want to go back and try the buffalo bbq ribs!

This place is unique! Many celebrities and presidents have visited. The atmosphere and service were impeccable… the food was exotic, just not that good. Dinner for the 4 of us was just under $500 and that didn’t include the tip. The Fort is kinda like climbing Mount Fuji. Once is cool, twice would be stupid.

K

Good steakhouse for some more unusual food. Rocky mountain oysters were good, but strange. Loved the mashed potatoes and the cesar salad. The elk steak was very good. Definitely something new to try, but I think I'll stick to my beef steaks. The view is gorgeous, and the patio is very nice to dine on. Good place to take someone who wants to try more unusual food.

Such a beautiful location—both the exterior and interior are stunning, and the view is gorgeous. The food was good and everything was cooked perfectly. The corn side tasted artificial, like frozen vegetables, but I heard the mashed potatoes were amazing! I had the duck, which was delicious paired with the wild rice.

The Fort is a great restaurant I feel for newcomers to Colorado and an overall unique experience with the historians walking around to give you some history and great views. I am toggling between a 3 and 4 rating because this is the first time I found myself disappointed in the meal. One of my favorite appetizers is the Hot Sausage Bean dip. It was dry. 😞. And I usually go for a steak or a combo game type plate. This time, I ordered the Idaho Trout, and it was very dry even after adding the sauce. 😟😟 Both overcooked. Now my friends' dishes were perfect, they ordered the Buffalo Ribs and The Mountain meets the Sea and both plates were cooked perfectly and tasted great. The Mac and cheese was tasty, they said, as well as the rocky mountain oysters. I at some point will revisit and cross my fingers for a tastier experience.

The Fort looks amazing inside—beautiful interiors that really set the mood. But the food and drinks don’t match the setting. Margaritas were watered down with zero kick; we asked for frozen, but got chopped ice instead of the smooth Texas-style frozen margarita. Meat was tasty, but the portions were unbelievably small for the price. Overall, it feels overpriced: you leave impressed by the atmosphere but disappointed by what’s on the table.

I’m going to start by saying the good things first. The service was very friendly , very personable, and very attentive. The location is beautiful. It has a very scenic and historic landscape and view. It is a venue for other things besides a restaurant. BUT, the restaurant itself has some issues. One is the cost. I don’t mind spending over $200 for 2 to dine IF the food and menu was worth it. I was disappointed in the presentation which looks like something a kid threw on a plate. The taste was terrible for the main course. I ordered the lamb. For one , the cut or whatever it was that was served , was NOT something that should have been on any plate especially a plate that cost $65! There should have been some kind of supervision on what was going to be put in front of someone. Limabeans and corn slopped on a $65 plate with crappy looking meat that tasted horrible and had more inedible pieces on it than edible ? The cheesecake looked decent . I was hoping to get that disgusting taste off my pallet with dessert , but they cheesecake didn’t even taste like dessert. C’mon, I couldn’t get a break from eating something that tasted gross! The Montana huckleberry sauce was good. But the cheesecake tasted like it was made with rotten eggs and cheese. The salad was decent. It was mostly leaves except for the pickled ginger on top. I did like the cappuccino. It tasted like a real barista made it. The cocktails and cocktails was good. The Rocky Mountain oysters were fried in smaller chunks but at least tasted like they should. For the appetizer, the smaller portion of Rocky Mountain oysters was more than plenty for 2..maybe enough for 3. The bread was good. Butter was frozen or hard and would t spread. Yet the whipped cream for the cheesecake was melted. I wouldn’t recommend spending a lot of money on terrible food. But I wouldn’t recommend going to the outdoor activities the venue puts on. There is plenty of parking. The bathroom was clean . Sadly the food was very disappointing and so was the cost that was charged for having to eat it. I hope they fix this .

I have been here many times. First time with poor service. We arrived at 5 with reservation on Sunday Feb 15th. It was my aunts 78th birthday and she has never been. Very embarrassed by the poor service. It took over 1/2 to even get asked if we wanted a drink. Then I had to ask for a menu about 1/2 hour past when we ordered drinks. Drink refills we very slow. Had to ask each time. Waitress seamed distracted and people that arrived after use got meals before us. Very disappointed. Don't think I will return. I believe service says it all. Really sad. Grew up with The Fort. Birthdays, Anniversaries, Graduations, visiting family and friends have all been to The Fort in our history. Its fine to spend $$$$ for a dinner when the service matches.

Went to Fort to celebrate the holidays with good friends. The view was awesome, service was great and the atmosphere was typical of a busy restaurant. The food was disappointing. Two of us had the bison prime rib special and both of us were disappointed. The meat was tough, probably 1/2 fat, unexpected for bison. Asked for medium and appears perhaps it was browned on a grill but the meat was rare underneath the surface. Probably only 1/4 of the 12 oz piece was edible . For almost $70, not worth the price. Veggies and mashed potatoes were average, bread and muffins were good. Mentioned the meat quality to the waitress and was told she would tell the chef. Others in our party had the duck which they enjoyed though was a little cold when served. Also noted the holiday sangria was watered down, perhaps it had been sitting too long. For $17, we probably should have sent it back. Overall, go for the view, not for the expensive, average food.

We went for Christmas Eve this year. We live not far and was hoping to make this a yearly tradition. We had 5 people, 2 were minors and our bill was $685. We did not eat dessert We had 3:30 reservations and had previewed the menu on open table. Since it was Christmas Eve, they had a limited menu that we were not made aware of. Our 17 year old had one choice she could eat, if we had known that we wouldn’t have come. We were seated in a separate room from the main one and ate on plastic folding tables. The staff was nice, and we tipped 20% since it’s not their fault. The steak was ok. I’ve had better. We all agreed on that. Anyway, sorry for the negative review, hoping the new owners see this and take note. The 2 stars are because it’s beautiful where we live and our waiter was great.

Comparable to Denny's or Perkins, but better service. I made reservations months ago for Thanksgiving, and I believe I was one of the first to do so. I requested a view table for me and my guests. A week before Thanksgiving I talked to the restaurant, and confirmed that I wanted a view table. When we arrived we were put in the back room (a small convention room of some type), and not even in the main dining area. What a disappointment! I actually apologized to my guests for this seating. It was an embarrassment. When leaving I asked how to I get a better table, and they said to request it. This was an outright lie, because that is exactly what I did. I understand that new ownership will take place later in 2025, and this is Great News. I was hoping to make this an annual Thanksgining tradition. I might try again in 2026, but until then I would not suggest going to The Fort.

M
Megan Branson

Our server was good. Atmosphere was cool. Our son enjoyed it. We ordered two medium well steaks but received two medium rare steaks. The potatoes were overcooked. The bears blood drink tasted/smelled like dirty water. For Valentines we really thought it would be a great experience but it was definitely a bust, $300 later.
