Recensioni di Los Cocos Oakland
It was great to see the pupusas being made on the spot. The place feels authentic and the food was impressive (chicharron and loroco pupusas and fried plantains, beans and cream).
The pupusas are so good! They are flavorful, well-portioned, and cooked to perfection.
Los Cocos is a true treasure of east bay restaurants and El Salvadorian food. The food is hand-made before your eyes. The papusas are $2.70 for two. You can't go wrong with any of choices--from the spinach, to the beans to the cheese and chicharrón. They come with a wonderful vinegary 'slaw' and homemade hot sauce. The papusa travel well if you are planning on taking them home for dinner or a party. The El Salvadorian tamales ($3 each) are soft, fluffy and I don't know what they are filled with except that it's wonderful. Be warned: they always have at least one olive (with the pit!) in them. The chile rellenos, the carne asada, the platanos con crema, and soups are all excellent. The black beans at Los Cocos are outstanding. Equally impressive is the Casamiento (rice mixed with onions and black beans) which is clearly the El Salvadorian version of Peruvian tacu-tacu. The casamiento rice dish is so delicious it's hard to describe. The ladies who cook and serve are delightfully kind and helpful. The restaurant is clean, warm and welcoming and there is street parking outside and around the block in this safe neighborhood. If you are looking for great, tasty food and a fun experience, Los Cocos is the place to go.
Amazing Papusas. Great small, local place. Has a cozy, family feel and the food is fresh and super good. Will definitely come again and again.
Outstanding pupusas. I went there at noon on on a Wednesday and was the first customer, just as they were opening. Service was extraordinarily friendly, food took about 10 min to come. Simple, homey place.
Best Pupusas in Oakland! Very authentic. Have been going here for many years.
So good! Reasonably priced. The service is great and the food comes out fat than I expect usually. Some of the best pupusas and platanos I've ever had!
A delicious meal of pupusas, beans, rice and plantains. Staff is very kind.
Most legit Salvadorean spot in the O. Period La Señora hooks it up. Old school hole in the wall. Support it!
had some delicious pupusas de queso con loroco with slaw--words cannot describe the comfort and joy you get from a single bite! food options for everyone--meat eaters and vegans, gluten-free, etc.--, prices are reasonnable & affordable, and the staff were lovely! 10/10 recommend note: they are a cash-only business; they do not accept credit card payment.
The pupusas are to die for. The platanos are incredible. The service is remarkable—basically one person running the whole show. It’s like eating in your mom’s kitchen! Can’t wait to come back!
I've been coming here for my popusa fix for about 20 yrs! I've always loved it! They're always so delicious & very affordable! I don't come too often but when I do I only have popusas. I've never had anything else on their menu but I don't doubt it's good. When I'd go visit a friend in Concord, I'd pick some up for us for lunch. She likes them better than from the restaurants in her area.
I have been eating here for the past 8 years and hands down is the best Salvadoran food I’ve ever had besides my mom’s home cooking. If you have never had this food before and are foreign to Central American cuisine then you may not understand what you’re eating or what authenticity of this food should be. Despite what other reviews have said about it being too greasy, news flash they’re supposed to be greasy. If they say it was terrible service because it took a long time, they’re hand making your order right after you place your order, what do you expect. I would totally ignore the bad reviews and give this place a try it is absolutely one of the most amazing g gems in Oakland!

I like this place. It makes excellent pupusas. The service is average,if not higher. The actual place is cozy, but roomy. All in all,I recommend this place
The food is good, but the service is not so great, the owner is kind of stingy when it comes down to even give you an extra napkin, anything extra that you require has a charge, even salsa. On my last visit there, l was unable to finish my pupusas and requested a to go box, instead l got a very small piece of tiny aluminum foil and was told by the owner that they do not provide boxes to go for pupusas, so l wondered how was l suppose to grap up the salad and salsa for the pupusas, with the very tiny and small piece of aluminum foil she gave me?🤔 I ended up having to put those in a plastic bag. This is an stablished small restaurant, l have never had that kind of treatment even at a taco truck, what is wrong with this lady?🙄 So if you do go there to eat, l strongly recommend you to be prepared and bring your own Ziploc bags or containers and your own extra napkins!!!😐

The food is good but the service is bad the waitres and the other lady it seems the owner so rude they looks like angry all the time and the place dirty they don't acept credit or debit cards too bad!
I sometimes take my wife and my two daughters here to have pupusas, but today is our last time we go here. I wasn't quite hungry today but the rest of my family was, so I ordered one pupusa each for my kids and two for my wife and one for me. The one for me was the problem, apparently adults have to order a minimum of two, which isn't stated in the menu very clearly. What is stated is that there is a minimum order of two pupusas, and since we ordered a total of five I thought we were in the good; I was wrong! Instead I had my wife order 3 pupusas, one that I will eat. The waitress brought out 3 sets of utensils and 3 plates, and refused service to me. This is just bad business and I wished this was the only thing that went wrong but it wasn't. To add to the bad service, my wife ordered a can of coconut water and it came to her filthy. She couldn't even get it totally cleaned with the napkin she received, so she returned it for a different bottled drink which was much easier too clean. And to nail the coffin shut, one of the male employee's came from the rear of the restaurant, which is where the restroom is located, he was adjusting his parts. Granted that he was doing this above his pants but still, that isn't ok, I don't care who you are.
This restaurant is the worse Salvadorian place that I've been. The pupusa is terrible and grease. They do not accept credit card and very poor hygiene. One lady grab the money and make pupusas without wash her hand... and above all was very rude.I will not go back to this place again.
Good food but the lady brat took our order was super weird. She only addressed my husband even though I asked for stuff. Super weird. Also they didn’t know I understand Spanish and they stood at the counter and started whispering stuff to each other and kept looking at me and my baby. If you order do it to go.
We ordered chicken soup and tortillas, it took a while to get our food and when it finally came out it tasted like they just threw it together last minute and cooked it in the instant pot really fast. The vegetables were still slightly hard the chicken thigh and drumstick seem like they just cooked it , still tough, and tasted like It was from the food bank, they threw Twigs of cilantro in there and didnt take the leaves off, I ended up taking all those out and putting them on the side. It seemed like a very rushed job. We are so disappointed and a waste of money total bill was $36.82. The tortillas We're homemade but had a weird taste aftertaste.
I went here with my family we had barely got our food and we seen a rat running under the tables and went into the couches near the door not to mention they took forever to bring the food and the pupusas cheese tasted like it was expired this place should be shut down it’s unsanitary
I’m suprised this place is still in business. Super bad service. The lady who works there is always in a bad mood. Plus the food is alright, but I’d rather go somewhere else.

We were charged extra for asking for salsa. Rude person at the counter. Restaurant was dirty and not welcoming. The lady at the counter insulted us, I can’t believe this place is in business. Never coming back. Que gente tan mal educada! No sean dundos,, puchica!!!
