Finally a place that actually has good food!! We are visiting from Georgia and have been disappointed in food establishments all week, until now! We had the NASCAR burger and the Birdie. Both were amazing along with the fries with homemade ranch. We also had a pineapple mimosa and they made me a cherry coke with cherry juice that was beyond delicious! The staff was super friendly, the music was great and the atmosphere was amazing! We would definitely go again!
It's not often that a burger pushes other ones out of my top 20 or 10. This one definitely is up there. It marries the delicate details that the chef brings forward while maintaining the flavorful nostalgia of an American classic. If you're looking for flavor and elegance, definitely consider the Nascar Burger. There was no chance of getting a picture either. I was traveling through the area and about 2.5 hrs. from home yet. I hadn't eaten since breakfast. The GPS quick button for "Restaurants" brought this up. I didn't realize it was a booked spot but thanks to southern hospitality the hostess/waitress offered space in another room. I declined simply because I was dirty and this was clearly a more polished environment (still casual - jeans and flannel shirts all the way to dressed up - but clean). Instead I asked for take out. I sat in my truck and demolished the burger and as a side note, in a clever attempt to make the meal healthier, I got Brussels sprouts instead of fries. They paired very nicely with the burger. So, definitely a place I would go back to and want to explore the chef's creativity further.
I Sometimes the best culinary discoveries are the ones we aren't looking for. I recently stumbled upon a true hidden gem—quite literally, after a happy accident led me into the wrong parking lot. I’m so glad it did. The Atmosphere: A Step into Another World Walking through the doors felt less like entering a restaurant and more like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. I was immediately enveloped in a warm, dimly lit glow that felt both intimate and inviting. The ambiance alone signals that something incredible is being crafted in the kitchen. Even with the holiday season in full swing, the decor was curated with a sophisticated touch—festive and tasteful without feeling over-the-top. The Menu: Masterful Flavors The meal started strong with the Shrimp Appetizer. It hit that elusive "sweet spot" of texture and seasoning, offering a perfect crunch followed by a burst of fresh flavor. For the main course, I opted for the Duck. For those who are often hesitant about duck being too "gamey," this dish will change your mind. It was expertly prepared—tender, rich, and balanced, easily rivaling some of the best poultry dishes I've had this year. The Service: Excellence in Every Detail As the evening progressed and the dining room filled to capacity, the service remained seamless. Often, attentiveness slips as the "rush" begins, but the staff here didn't miss a beat. A special shoutout goes to Kim, who was absolutely spectacular. Her personable energy and professionalism elevated the entire experience. It’s rare to find a server who can balance efficiency with genuine warmth so effortlessly. The Verdict This "secret cove" of a restaurant is a masterclass in hospitality and flavor. From the enchanting atmosphere to the top-tier service, it was the perfect setting to celebrate my birthday. If you’re looking for a spot that feels like an escape from the everyday, this is it. I’ll definitely be back.
This place definitely lived up to its high ratings! The ambiance was incredibly festive, and our server, Jordan, was fantastic—truly one of the kindest and most attentive people we’ve encountered. My only critique was a slightly awkward & confusing encounter with the host. We were told they 'needed to check' for a table despite half the restaurant being empty. Aside from that hiccup, it was a great experience.
We come here for all of our birthdays and anniversaries! The food is fabulous and the servers are SO great. Tonight was my 78th birthday celebration. I had a marvelous steak, cooked exactly as I wanted it. My husband had the duck — also wonderful. For dessert we shared an order of beignets, which came out with a candle!! (See photo.) Can’t wait to return for his birthday dinner!! ❤️
If you do not try this place...thank you, more for me :-) Seriously, what a find!!! We've been venturing out further and further and this was our pick for Labor Day weekend. I wonderful gem tucked in the back of a brick complex with a cozy feel. The atmosphere is unassuming and honestly, I was expecting pretty simple fare but wow, this place did not disappoint. I have to say the ride home (over an hour) was a bit uncomfortable because we had an appetizer (crab cakes) and desert (key lime and chocolate tort) in addition to our main course (filet and salad with chicken). Everything was done to perfection (ordered medium rare, came out perfect) and the flavors were just amazing. I kept trying the wife's salad as it was farm fresh and the chicken was tender and juicy. Great cocktail selection and honestly, I can't think of anything that was not fantastic. The manager checked on us often and was super engaging and helpful. She made us feel right at home and the experience was better for her. I think we met the owner as well who was busy taking care of orders...she was super nice and unassuming as well. This was a great great great late lunch for us and we'll be back. Change nothing, it was all spot on. Thank you!
We came here for the first time for Valentine’s Day and we were SO impressed! The food was absolutely incredible! It was such a delicious menu and we enjoyed every single second. We are already looking forward to coming back for brunch. So so so good! Thank you Spoon & Spindle!
What a delightful dining spot in Orange! I met a friend in Orange to catch up over dinner and we thought we’d give Spoon & Spindle a try. Parking was easy to find and the entrance looks charming. We were both impressed by the level of friendly and helpful service we received! My friended had certain dietary restrictions and the server spoke with the chef and came back with suggested items that would meet her dietary needs. We both chose the duck confit which was fall off the bone tender and delicious. There were plenty of adult beverages to choose from. Sadly we were too full to try the tempting desserts! Highly recommend this small but mighty restaurant.
Great place to dine. We have been several times. Interesting menu items and very well executed dishes. Love the atmosphere. Great service.
We enjoyed a wonderful brunch here today. The shrimp and grits were so delicious. Biscuits and gravy were the best ever. The atmosphere was fun and well done. Staff were helpful and professional.
Finding Spoon & Spindle was such a great surprise for our Saturday brunch of choice. We were greeted right as we sat down and the service was really amazing. We tried the peaches and cream waffle special and was not disappointed. Our mouths were melting! Our main meal was just as delicious. We were shocked at how stacked our meals were by this delicious buttery corn cake bread. 10/10 will be back again! Just look at this!
Our first time finally going so we ordered several things to try. It's unique for town of Orange, very nice and delicious food and drinks. It's a different variety of food. I think is good too. The manager very nice and so was are waitress very nice! Good conversation with great service!
We had a wonderful time at Spoon and Spindle. We went for dinner on a Tuesday evening, and the restaurant was not overwhelmed with guests. The food was absolutely wonderful. The Bonsai Brussels sprouts, the Shiozake salmon and the steak frites were all excellent. And equally remarkable was the attentiveness of the friendly staff members. We were very happy with our experience, and will come back if we are in this area.
This is a little restaurant in the town of orange with exceptional food. I decided to give them a try for brunch and was impressed with the more upscale menu. We had their chicken and waffles and the shrimp and grits. Both of these dishes were excellent. I can't wait to go back and try something different.
Spoon & Spindle catered our wedding and morning-after brunch. All of the food was delicious! The beef bourg and pigs in a blanket were guest favorites. Shalese and her team truly went above and beyond to take care of everything (some things I hadn’t even thought of!). They handled all of the clean up and helped to break down our rentals. They were entirely self sufficient the day of which was a huge relief with all of the stress and excitement of the day. The food was excellent and all of the staff were so friendly and professional. Definitely recommend for catering!
Spoon and Spindle is a gem! We were just passing through Orange yesterday and stopped off for brunch. Fantastic food, service, and ambiance. Their Bananas Foster French Toast was out of this world and their waffles are to die for! Also their biscuits and beignets are so good, we ordered several to go. You can tell everything is homemade with high quality ingredients, and their pricing is very reasonable for the quality and portions of food. Next time we'll have to pass through for dinner as that menu looks amazing as well!!
Super intimate space only about 12 tables and the food is amazing, we've been many time. The Muffalatta burger is amazing, the salmon is super delicious, the bourbon glazed pork loin is perfectly cooked and tasty. My favorite last night was the Bonsai Fries and I could've not shared them and just made them my meal 😁 I tried to get the recipe they were that good! I was so impressed with their brussel sprouts, very crispy on the outside and not dry. 10/10 recommend
Came in from CO and stoped by for lunch. Menu is creative and food was done well with good flavors. They had a lunch rush which made it a bit longer lunch but was well worth it. Desert was amazing, nicely done . Recommend!!
Nice, farm to table spot in historic Orange. It offers a refreshing array of flavors and several lighter dishes (for lunch/dinner). I had the Base Bowl with salmon, which was fresh, simple, and tasty. My husband had the Garlic Noodle Bowl with blackened chicken, which was flavorful and saucy/a bit heavier, with a slight kick. Highly recommend for folks visiting town!
One of the best Resturants in Orange Virginia! Try their Statesman Burger or Brussels Their crab cakes have no filler in them. They are delicious! Feel like a salad? Try the Grazer Salad or their Avocado Toast. They have the biggest & best Bacon Egg & Cheese Biscuit I have ever eaten. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee you will come back for more.
We took our daughter here for her 30th birthday. We have eaten here before and knew it was good food, but tonight was so fantastic and delicious. We loved the food options, and we all enjoyed every bit of our meals and dessert! We will definitely recommend to anyone, and certainly eat here again!
This spot is fantastic! The service is friendly, and the ambiance is great. The Statesman Burger, short ribs, and salmon are standout dishes. Their black iced tea is also a treat. I love Chef Andrews's vision, and for me, this is one of the best restaurants in Virginia!
Spoon and Spindle is a wonderfully homey gem hidden away in what I believe is a repurposed warehouse. The menu is small with an unexpected Japanese influence. Service was good, and our food came out quickly. When it came out it did not disappoint: the portion size, flavor, and plating pleasantly surprised me. Our whole family was pleased with their meals, but I think what set it apart was the atmosphere. It just felt like I was having a family dinner away from home. Please go try Spoon and Spindle, this place deserves more customers.
My wife and I visited and they had just started a new brunch menu. The ambience is cozy and warm, with classy music. Great staff. We started with an appetizer of fried green tomatos with pimento cheese and microgreens. Best I've had - and I've had many. I ordered the breakfast hash (potatoes, Brussels, caramelized onion, bacon, eggs) and my wife had the carnivore scrambler with stoneground grits. Both were served in these individual cast iron skillets and we both LOVED our dishes. While I recommend this place to others bc I love supporting local businesses that are great, I am actually leaving this post so I can remember this place next time we visit. Sooo good!
It took an extra second to find, but we really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was welcoming and aesthetically pleasing, and the food was delicious. I had an asian inspired noodle bowl and my boyfriend got a burger. We recommend both. 👌 We will be back.
The reviews are correct, this place is delicious. The food was phenomenal. The staff is nice. There wasnt a long wait for food and it came out hot and delicious. Its a small restaurant so you may have to either arrive early or be prepared to wait but its certainly worth it. I had the bananas foster french toast and it was so much food. I hope their portion sizes never change because its worth every single penny.
I wanted a brunch stop on my travels this morning and found this restaurant by chance. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the attentive staff and brunch was scrumptious. I recommend anyone who is looking to elevate their afternoon to stop on in. Cheers!
OUT. FREAKIN. STANDING. Don't dither; you found this place, and this review: Just go. Go right now. Why are you still reading? GET IN THE CAR. The venue: Beautiful. Minimalist without being stark, industrial without being cold, a genuinely lovely factory space turned rustic-comfortable with class and simplicity. The service: Beautiful. Kind, friendly, thoughtful, good recommendations, great questions, exquisite service top to bottom, not a scrap of pretense, not a hint of anything but experience and craft. The food: Beautiful. Japanese-inspired furikake brussels (big enough to be an entree), with so much umami balanced with a sparkling array of complimentary tones that you're going to want to share or pace yourself lest you be overwhelmed by flavor. Catfish étouffée that this guy who went to school in Cajun country says is just about the best he's ever had this far north, trinity perfectly prepared, rice flawless, and the rich, sweet, savory fish and gravy was magnificent. Beignet for dessert that'll have you singin' like Tiana, simple and flawless. Terrific cocktail to boot. I was singularly impressed, and this place deserves everyone's patronage. I am already recommending it to friends. Thank you for a truly excellent dining experience, friends.
This place is so good! Robert and Shalese have done such a gorgeous job decorating and creating such a cool vibe. We stopped in for a quick bite and Susie and Anna were so sweet and attentive in serving everyone. The burger was ridiculous...seriously...so good. I wish I got a photo of it but it was so good I inhaled it 😂. The brussel sprouts had delicious flavor and the fries were awesome. I can't wait to go back for brunch soon!
Brunch was absolutely fantastic!! The chicken and waffles were the best I have ever had!
We *really* enjoyed our lunch! We had the 2 specials, beer tips with polenta and beef stew. Both were fantastic. We also had dessert - praline cheesecake and flour less tort. The desserts are big enough to share but we are them all anyway. Can't wait to go back and try some of their other meals!
Great food, great service, great vibe. So good bringing kids back next weekend for brunch. Holiday spirit is strong.
Food was very good. We were a group of 14 and everyone enjoyed their dishes. They served us in a reasonable amount of time. Service was excellent.
Cocktails are on point! Salads are mixed expertly! The crab cakes are made fresh from scratch! The classic rock music volume is at a nice level to allow conversation, which means that this venue is not overwhelming for anyone. Perfect lighting and ambience for the cultured crowd
Excellent brunch. We had delicious eggs benedict, fresh fruit and avocado toast. The servers were very good. Will be going back.
Called to inquire if they sold gift cards online (they do, and it’s really easy - I’m just blind apparently!!). Kim answered the phone and was incredibly friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to give the gift card to my parents, I’m sure they’ll love it there.
What a pleasant surprise to find Spoon & Spindle. From my phone call to place a reservation to the last bite of Catfish Etoufee, the experience was Awesome! The customer service, the food quality and the restaurant ambiance were all fantastic. The final surprise was the more than reasonable prices. This is one of the very best restaurants I've patronized. Do visit Spoon & Spindle soon!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My husband and I recently visited Spoon & Spindle, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish! The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was packed with flavor, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. Whether you're a fan of comfort food or looking to try something new, they have something for everyone. But what truly set Spoon & Spindle apart was the outstanding customer service. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. They were friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel like valued guests. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and service are equally impressive, but Spoon & Spindle nailed it. I can’t recommend this place enough — it’s a must-visit if you're in the area!
This place is absolutely DELICIOUS! Every bite from beginning to end! The cardamom gelato was the most incredible gelato I’ve ever had. We will be back.
Had a weekend away in Orange for my birthday and I’d consider this sweet little place the finishing touch. From the quirky entranceway that makes you feel like you’re boarding a ship to the beautiful decor and friendly atmosphere, it was a real treat. The service was friendly and extremely competent, the food was delicious and encompassed a wide range of tastes. We would happily go back again and you would be crazy to miss this place!
Just came in from Pittsburgh looking for a place that was Gluten and Dairy free. They have gluten free buns. Their burger and fries are to die for and I honestly hate to not have this in the 412. I took a bite of my gfs loaded Mac and cheese despite my allergies and it was one of the most flavorful foods I’ve ever had. Worth every penny. (And Benadryl)
We met 7 of our Friends at The Spoon and Spindle today for their lunch and dinner menu. Everything we ordered was excellent, from the Brussel sprout small meal to the Cat fish. The service was excellent and they were very patient with the amount of time we stayed there to visit. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
I had no complaints for this visit. The food was delivered hot and tasted great. The service and atmosphere were pleasant. Tried the smash burger with fries. My companion had the smash cheeseburger with Brussel Sprouts. Tried Choclate Torte and beignets for dessert. Very small establishment, so get there early or late. Handicapped accessible but a steep ramp.
Very tasty, my group had salads and sandwiches. Fried mushroom appetizer and slaw sides were outstanding. Worth a stop!
The food, drinks, and service were all spectacular! I’ve visited a lot of cities but was pleasantly surprised by what a culinary gem we managed to find in a smaller town. The cost of very reasonable and the portions were good. This was the best part of the trip for us!
Wow! I’m so glad that I ate here. I was actually planning to eat somewhere else and they were closed so I walked across parking lot and here I was. The music and ambiance was inviting and warm. All of the wait staff were very kind, attentive and welcoming. I didn’t know how it could get better and than I took a bite of the biscuits. I was a little off put at first because they come square 😂 but man was I surprised when I bit in to that soft, flaky and buttery taste of heaven. This was just my side biscuit so imagine how juicy, flavorful and perfectly cooked my steak was. It tasted like they use a wine basting and the flavor was spot on. The potatoes were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the outside finished with a great sauce. My bank is happy I don’t live close by because I would be eating here all the time. Do yourself a flavor and get your tail over here!
We loved our visit! A newer place in a former silk factory. The brunch was amazing! The prices were very good as well. The Bonuts (biscuit donuts) were probably the best bite of food I’ve had in years! The owner was very nice and showed us around the venue at the back. Thank you!
Really incredible food, I had the oyster omelette and was so so much pleased with it the perfect amount of fried oysters served on top of delicious juicy fluffy omelet in a warm cast iron. My wife was craving some fried chicken so she got the Presidente biscuit she loved it .. I had bite it was perfection. This eatery will enliven any foodies taste pallet.
Neat little restaurant in an old mill. The breakfast we had was very good. The wait staff were very friendly. We were in the area for a wedding, 4 hours from where we live. If we were local we would be regulars. If we are ever back in Orange Virginia, we definitely would visit again!
This place is great. Passed by on our way to a market in frankinsburge,VA. Food, service and staff were all phenomenal. Thank you so much for such a great experience.
Food was very nicely prepared and presented. A quaint eating establishment. Madison, our waitress, was exceptional. Her personality even made our experience even better. Well done, Madison!!!
Fun, creative menu (the Brussels sprouts are terrific!), warm, inviting setting, and top notch service. Our waiter, Jordan, did an excellent job fielding our questions and being helpful without hovering. We’ll be back!
Kim was fantastic and the food was delicious 10/10. The vibe was cozy and welcoming, truly a hidden gem. It felt like a little getaway.
I enjoyed the awesome egg and biscuit. Probably the best egg "sandwich" ever! This is really a meal disguised as a sandwich. Every component including the sauce was an explosion of flavor. Very good brunch!
We recently tried this restaurant for the first time and were thoroughly impressed! The ambiance was charming, cozy seating paired with thoughtful, inviting décor created the perfect atmosphere. The service truly stood out. Our waitress was not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and attentive throughout the evening. I ordered their chicken sandwich, the Birdie, and my husband ordered a steak. Both were cooked to perfection! The sauce they served alongside the steak was to die for! 10/10 would absolutely recommend! If you haven’t been yet, this hidden gem is a must-visit! An ideal spot for a relaxing date night tucked away in a quiet corner of town.
Nice quiet place to enjoy delicious food! Superb service! Amanda is professional and pleasant. Definitely recommend it!
Cute decor, great biscuits. I had sausage gravy and biscuits; my wife had chicken and biscuits. Both were great. If you are traveling US15 and need a meal, stop here!
Great! Have been there brunch, lunch and dinner. Delicious and different menu items. Pear salad and pavlova dessert are so good. Courteous and friendly staff.
The atmosphere was amazing. The food was outstanding. The service was impeccable. I will return.
We relocated to the area about a month ago and my husband ate here for breakfast one Saturday morning. He wanted me to try it for myself and we visited on the 5th of July. I am glad we went! From the moment we walked in, the young lady at the host stand was kind and seated us quickly. Our waitress was amazing and made sure to keep our glasses full of sweet tea. This is only the 3rd time we've had good sweet tea in Virginia! This southern girl, loves sweet tea! Next up, I tried the blueberry pancakes and they were delicious! I am looking forward to trying out the Brunch menu and bringing my daughters when they come to visit. Thank you for making my favorite meal of the day, a tasty one!
my second brunch visit both meals were great! I love their bacon bloody Mary one of the best bloody Mary mix I’ve had at a restaurant and a good while. The el Presidente did not disappoint luck trying to finish that biscuit and getting anything done for the rest of the day. Next time in town looking forward to having dinner there.
My son and I went here during restaurant week. We were seated right away and had our drink order taken. We placed our order and it arrived in short order. We also were served a free veggie plate. I had salmon and my son ordered braised beef. Both were seasoned and cooked perfectly. We finished off with cheesecake and a brownie sundae. Our waitress Kylie was very attentive but not overly so. All in We very happy with the place.
Really delicious breakfast & brunch menu. Loved the fresh beignets and the flavorful chicken and waffles. Very generous portions too. Cant wait to come again!
So much fun and such a cute spot! We’re on a girls’ weekend, and this was the perfect place for brunch—mimosa flights, tons of food options, and great vibes all around. The bathrooms were so clean (which honestly matters a lot to me). The only thing I felt meh about were the beignets—they were a bit over-powdered and larger than expected. Everything else was fantastic, and I’d definitely come back.
My partner and I recently came here for our anniversary dinner. We want to especially shout out Kim for making it such an unforgettable experience. We truly enjoyed this unexpected gem. Everything we tries was delicious -- we recommend the fried mushrooms, the steak and potatoes, and the miso cod. We were blown away by the Flourless Chocolate Torte which was light yet flavorful. The portions for the steak and potatoes and fried mushrooms were generous, while the cod was a bit small. Kim was so sweet and brought out beignets for us. We highly recommend!
The steak was absolutely magnificent and our waitress Kim was super sweet and helped us pick out really delicious appetizers and desserts. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts (I hate brussel sprouts but these were 10/10 buttery and seasoned well)
We stopped in for brunch at Spoon and Spindle and were so glad we did! The food was fantastic across the board. I had the shrimp and grits — perfectly seasoned and easily one of the best I’ve had. The breakfast fried rice was also impressive, and I’m honestly bummed I didn’t get to try the biscuits and gravy (next time!). The atmosphere is a pleasant surprise — the outside doesn’t hint at how beautiful and inviting the inside of the restaurant really is. I did try a plain biscuit and it was excellent on its own. The fruit bowl deserves a special shout-out too — instead of the usual cantaloupe and grapes, it came with a colorful mix of blackberries, kiwi, mango, blueberries, and strawberries. Our kids loved the bacon and potatoes, and everything came out fresh and well-prepared. All in all, a wonderful brunch spot we’ll definitely return to.
Had a lovely brunch with friends at Spoon & Spindle! I ordered the avocado toast—super fresh and flavorful, but it was a bit too spicy for my taste (and I usually enjoy spicy food). Just a little less heat would’ve made it perfect. All the dishes looked delicious, and everything was beautifully presented. Our server was very friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The place is family-friendly, with plenty of parking and a ramp for wheelchair access—which I really appreciate. I don’t personally need it, but I always look out for places that are accessible for those who do. Overall, a great spot for a relaxed and tasty brunch. Would definitely come back!
My husband and I like to travel up to this area for lunch because unlike the Fredericksburg area, it's not overly crowded. We decided to try Spoon & Spindle today because of the great reviews. It was a little difficult to find, but we found it. We arrived about 1 PM, just an hour before closing for the afternoon, but we were greeted warmly and led to a table. The chairs are not the most comfortable, but the atmosphere in this small space was pleasant. There were several large tables and other smaller tables all filled with customers enjoying their food and time together. I should have read the website more closely, didn't realize the weekends were brunch only as I was looking forward to trying something on their lunch menu, but I'm glad we got to experience the brunch as it was delicious. We couldn't decide what we wanted, so we ordered several items. We started with the Scotch Egg which ended up being the star of our meal. A perfectly cooked soft boiled egg, wrapped in locally sourced sausage, coated in panko and cooked to perfection. We also got the blueberry bread pudding. It was good, but a little too sweet for my taste. For our main entrees I got a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit served with a side of spuds. I was disappointed to see the spuds were tiny maybe half inch to 1 inch seasoned french fries. They tasted ok. The biscuit sandwich was huge. The filling of egg and bacon were cooked perfectly and there was plenty along with the cheese. The biscuit itself was on the dry and crumbly side. Not light and fluffy. It was still very good, but with it being so dry it could have used some type of extra moisture on the sandwich. My husband got the Kentucky Hot Brown. His also came with a side of the same spuds. He said the mornay sauce was very flavorful and the sandwich was delicious. We will definitely come back as there are things on the lunch and dinner menu we'd like to try. Edit: We visited again for lunch one day last week and I was pleased to see the chairs have been swapped out and were much more comfortable. We got an order of deviled eggs with fried garlic for an app and it was delicious. I opted for the Smash burger, double patty and asked for the sauce on the side. Glad I did because the burger was so good, juicy and flavorful it didn't need sauce. The fries were spot on. My partner got the etouffee with catfish and he was very pleased with his portion. He said the heat intensified the more he was eating and he loved it.
It was fun trying out this cool restaurant! The service was friendly and the food was pretty good. The macaroni and cheese I had didn’t seem to have enough salt so that wasn’t the best. Also, they don’t have a very large dinner menu. We had a reservation so there was no wait which was great.
I think they have the food spot on, needs a little polishing still on front of the house. We waiting with several other people at the entrance with no hostess in site. Servers friendly and competent, but kinds stepping over each other.
Interesting menu options here. Tonight's special featured sushi, moco Loco, and musubi. My daughter and I ordered the last two. Hubby and SIL chose southern fish and chips. The Moco Loco tasted like the ones I had in Hawaii. The coconut in the rice was the right touch. The spam in the Musubi was caramelized, which gave that sweet/savory combo. Unfortunately, the rice was cold and hard. However, the catfish (for the southern fish and chips) was breaded perfectly. My SIL, who used to be a chef, detected sage in the batter, which gave it that extra oof. For appetizers, we had the bacon pimento fries. Aside from the fries, the pimento and bacon were on point. Service was excellent and fast.
Saturday night dinner was delicious. Our shrimp ettoffe was great. Salad crisp and fresh. Had key lime cheese cake for dessert. It was so good. Service prompt and friendly. First time visit. We will be back!!
Lunch three people. Ordered crab cake sandwich, mussels, and chicken schnitzel. Sandwich good, but came with unmixed green salad in container that made mixing difficult, mussels were with a too-dominent red sauce and the accompanying fries were dry and fairly tasteless, and schnitzel was dry and excessively breaded and came only with a not very tasteful potato puree.
Let me start by saying that the servers and front of the house staff were all excellent, and they are the only reason this review gets 2 stars. I will also say we were sat at 8pm when the restaurant closes at 9pm. We had paid the check and left by 8:45. I am not sure if it was an off night, or a new cook, but the food was not good. I was excited to try this spot based on the reviews but something went very wrong tonight. We started with Arancini that were fine and a the blueberry old fashioned which was solid. After this, everything went downhill. We had a Negroni that was made with a low quality gin at the wrong ratios. We had to leave it in the corner of the table. The cod was overcooked and lacked any real flavor. This was frustrating because the description included burnt honey, miso, and dashi but none of these flavors could be found. The dish was served on a child's sized saucer plated with the 'crispy' rice cake the same size as the plate. The schnitzel was fried well and tasty enough but it sat on top of a potato puree that was straight up liquid with no texture or salt. Smothered in a lemon veloute that was mostly lemon. The Mac and cheese made me write this review. It was an abomination against god. All the hallmarks and flavor of a Sysco Brand reheated Mac and cheese bag, with the commercial oversized elbow noodles as the dead giveaway. There was no breadcrumbs, no chives, no bacon This place is working with some good ideas in an interesting location but the kitchen execution is not there. We paid $150 for 2 meals, an app, and drinks which is normal, but at that price some flavor would be nice. I hope they can figure out what happened.
Oh, the Valentines Day experience! As a small business owner, I know the impact less than a five star review can impact. I reserve less than stellar ratings to sparingly. There were six couples that waited 30 min. past their reservation time which they reported was due to the customers "lingering over their meals." Apologies and water were offered during the wait. But not seating or discounts. Alcohol could be requested and added to the tab. Outrageous. The food was delicious but so slow in getting to the table that we were very much hungry until 3/4 through the tiny portions of a six course meal. At $85/meal w/out alcohol, I am staggered they would place the blame on the customer when they simply overbooked. Serving a spoonful of coconut curry sauce in a cheap wood woven PizzaHut salad bowl was a course. Greedy. And I felt horrible for those who had truly dressed up for the charade of class.
Both orders of Mussels were undercooked and couldn’t be opened without splashing sauce all over you and would not release from the shell. Crab cakes were overcooked burned on the bottom. When addressed with server and chef none of our concerns were addressed.
I think we must have been there on an off night. We were a party of 8 celebrating two birthdays. We were sooooo excited about the food after reading all of the reviews. Traveled 30 minutes for this special birthday meal. Service and atmosphere was on point. Food was VERY disappointing. The plating was beautiful. True food art. The actual taste of the food was the opposite. I thought it was just me but as I looked around the table and saw everyone else’s face.. I was not the only one with a disappointing dish. We all clamored for the salt and pepper to try and add flavor. We requested hot sauce and the server said they get that request all the time…. Hmmm. That was a first for me.. I never request hot sauce… We are not picky eaters. I don’t think we have ever experienced a night like that.. one person in our party maybe not enjoying his/her dish..ok. But ALL of us?! It was just unreal. We were on a Thursday…so again.. maybe an off night. We came because of the amazing reviews but left very disappointed and hungry.
