I recently enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Gees Restaurant in Oxford, and it was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was inviting, with a charming setup that enhanced the dining experience. I ordered a classic burger with a side of fries, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The burger was juicy and had a great combination of fresh ingredients, including crisp lettuce and melted cheese, while the fries were golden and crispy. The service was attentive and friendly, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. Gees is a wonderful spot for a casual yet high-quality meal in Oxford. I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious lunch with a lovely ambiance.
This was our first visit to Oxford and we had been recommended Gees restaurant, i was excellent. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was lovely. I ordered aubergine parmagiano with lemon souffle desert. Both were the best examples of the dish if have ever had. I would definitely recommend Gees Restaurant.
Gees is outstanding! We got married here in October 2024 and have just been back for our first anniversary celebration. The food is incredible, the service is consistently great. The atmosphere they have created with the interiors and friendly, relaxed staff is unmatched. Cannot recommend them more highly!
I’ve had a beautiful day and amazing meal after at GEES. The food is really outstanding! Every meal I had was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Coffee perfect, vine very nice. I really suggest for everyone who wants to try ‘black spaghetti, prawns, chilli, garlic and parsley and for dessert - ‘Cremè Catalana’ ." "This was A Some of the Most delicious food I've eaten lately! Pity I could not fit more :) Young and lovely serving, cooking team, especially Ms Kimberly, who looked (served) after me. I’m looking forward to come back with all my family again. I’m sure they would like it a lot. Bravo Gees!
Lovely, helpful and welcoming staff. Beautiful modern conservatory setting. Place is wheelchair accessible from the street, accessible toilet is good 👍 we didn't eat but menu looks nice!
I loved this place. The staff were very service minded and helpful. The food was nice and the tomato soup aperitif was a highlight! It should be on the menu! The atmosphere is lovely and the should is contemporary but indeed like a garden room.
The place is very original and it was perfect to celebrate a birthday. The food was tasty and delicious. I think that the venison was exquisite and the chocolate cake as well! The price are expensive but worth it. Wine was good as well. We had a lovely time. Staff was fine and took well care of us. Thanks.
We visited Gees on 14/05/23 whilst visiting Oxford and loved it! The food was phenomenal and our waitress was brilliant, she was a little quirky in the best way possible. She was great at her job and made us feel special and at home. We thought she needed recognition for her customer service skills. The atmosphere was incredible and the lighting was perfect. We hope to return soon.
Sensational Mediterranean-style restaurant set in a conservatory. We went mid-week and it was busy so booking is essential. Impeccable service, food, drinks, and seating. We really enjoyed our time at Gees. Started with a Queen Bee (ginger liqueur, gin, lemon and honey) that slipped down very well and had a good sized gingery aftertaste. For starters, it was octopus cooked over a wood fire on a bed of lentils and carrot. Every layer was delicious and flavoursome. The octopus was perfectly cooked. Salmon fish cakes followed and these I found to be quality but totally filling. Not soaked in oil nor greasy and a just right portion size. Will definitely revisit.
Food was delicious! All the seafood was tasty and fresh! Service was good, friendly and helpful! Well done, we will back again soon!
The food was really good, I liked the fact that it’s like a glass building, so you can see everything outside. The ambience wasn’t too bad, but the restaurant is too tight- couldn’t take nice full pictures inside. The waiters were helpful as well. Also like the idea of coloring page for kids menu, they also provided crayons. Giving 8/10 overall.
Walked in on the off chance there was a vacant table, was in luck! Stunning massive conservatory to eat in, more like an orangery, was so big light and airy, plenty of space, yet still cosy too. The staff were extremely polite, formal and helpful. There must have been a mark on a knife that the waiter was about to lay down and he immediately took it away, provided a fresh knife and wiped all cutlery before laying them down, I didnt even see a mark must have literally been a speck of dust! Very high standards here, the service and etiquette is above and beyond. The food matches the service, I ordered octopus, I'm not one to be squeamish and I always love to try new foods and octopus has been on my food bucket list for a while. It did not disappoint! It even trumped my old favourite calamari! The chips were amazing, they weren't any old chips, I don't know how they do it but they made them heavenly and I'm not a big fan of chips, usually! My main, a home made lamb burger was divine, perfectly seasoned and cooked, full of flavour, not greasy or tough. A extremely good meal. When I'm next in Oxford I will be coming back to Gees! ❤️
This place is so magical and never let us down! We had our first date here in 2021 and yesterday we celebrated our wedding day at the gallery! Amazing place with delicious food and best service we could imagine. Alain, who looked after us yesterday was so amazing. He was attentive and very kind to us and made everyone at the party feel so at home. Thank you Alain we will never forget your kindness😍🥂 Already planning for anniversary party to have at Gees!
A gem of a restaurant with great service from pleasant and enthusiastic servers. A lovely bright dining area in a large victorian conservatory, dishes are Mediterranean style with an Italian and Spanish flare. We dined in the conservatory but on warm spring, summer or autumn days there is a delightful garden area. Only down side is the lack of parking although there is paid road side bays in the road opposite. Really worth a visit I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, bookings (recommended) for both lunch and dinner, can be made via the phone or their website.
gees is definitely the place to be for an elevated dining experience and impeccable service especially around the time we went in when it was quite busy. the food we ordered was sent to the table timely and allergens were taken care of. i had the well done lamb burger which came with chips and a mint dill dip which i still dream of! it was fresh and juicy lamb with the same spread as you get with your chips. max took care of our drinks and we had staff come in and ask if everything was alright. overall a fun night with friends.
What an amazing place to dine in! As soon as you enter you’re greeted by the warmest staff who usher you to your seats. The place itself has elite vibe. Beautiful glass windows, warm lights and amazing music creates a confluence of magic. Max came up to our table with the drinks and checked in on us multiple times throughout our time at the restaurant. Ewelina was so kind while taking orders, she cross checked for allergies and made it a point to brief us about the dish before serving. I ordered the Hake and mussels and it was absolutely delicious! If you love seafood this is the dish for you! And for dessert I had Chocolate Nemesis, which was divine. If it were me, I could’ve ordered for two more servings. ❤️ Enjoyed my time dining at Gees! 10/10 recommend.
I was lucky enough to be taken to lunch at Gees on New Year's Day. What a wonderful experience it was. Working in hospitality you know that the day after NYE is going to be a tough one for everyone but the moment we walked through the door nothing was too much trouble. We were welcomed by Gabriel and from that point on it was pretty much perfect. Outstanding attentive service - that guy must have eyes in the back of his head!! A truly special lunch to start 2026. Thank you everyone there that day. Emma x
Gee’s Restaurant & Bar is a truly wonderful place to dine, offering a perfect balance of elegance and relaxed comfort. The setting is beautiful, light-filled, and stylish, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere that makes any visit feel special. The food is outstanding thoughtfully prepared, full of flavour, and made with high-quality ingredients. The menu offers a great variety, with dishes that are both refined and satisfying, and everything is beautifully presented. The drinks and wine selection are excellent and complement the food perfectly. Service is warm, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely keen to ensure you have a great experience from start to finish. Whether for brunch, lunch, dinner, or drinks, Gee’s delivers consistently on quality, atmosphere, and service. A standout restaurant that’s always a pleasure to visit highly recommended! 🍽️✨
We were a party of 16, on 27 December - big party, busy time of year. Gees could not have been more delightful in taking our booking. Then, because we were gathering there from all over the country, some of the party were late because M40. The staff were warm, reassuring and accommodating - greeting my very stressed sister with a glass of champagne. The service staff were great - solicitous without being intrusive, helpful and warm. And the food was *delicious*. We don’t get together as a full family very often. Gees made it a wonderful day, and the perfect way to round off Christmas.
Always come here when visiting Oxford! Came bright and early for breakfast, everything was delicious and the staff are always super friendly
We’d been meaning to visit for a while, and weren’t disappointed! The food was very nice, the surroundings were lovely (we sat in the conservatory area) and although it was a busy Friday night, it wasn’t too noisy. Also, ladies’ bathroom is classy - these things matter! Food came very quickly (we arrived at 6.30pm, so it might get busier later). Many thanks!
We had the seafood linguine and the fillet of hake. For desert the crème catalana and tiramisu. It was my friend’s birthday as well so they gave us free ice cream which was really nice of everyone. The food tasted incredible, even the side dishes on the plate had so much flavour since it has been seasoned so well. The hake fell apart beautifully and was throughly cooked as well as the seafood linguine . Desert was a treat and when paired with the ice cream, tasted even better. We arrived at the restaurant earlier than the time we booked online but staff were accommodating and provided us a table in the outdoor seating area and were attentive on turning on the heating for us. Overall a really positive experience, it can get quite busy hence we did feel at times it was hard to try and get the server’s attention but the food was amazing which made our night and we really enjoyed ourselves. We will happily come back again 😊
This restaurant has my heart. The atmosphere was just bombastic, natural and comfortable. I have never eaten such good potatoes and broccoli and the service was fabulous. Very nice people and personable they were too. Price wise it is fair to the food as the quality was excellent.
Gees is set in a gorgeous greenhouse-like structure with floor to ceiling glass walls and a glass ceiling. I find this perfect for lunch on one of those winter days when the sky is beautifully blue but it's too cold and windy for the outdoor seating. When seating me, the waitress gave me a water jug, which I greatly appreciate (there is little that bothers me more when dining than having to wait for my water glass to be refilled) and refilled the jug without me asking when it was near empty. I had the braised octopus with potatoes and mojo rojo for my starter, loin of venison with mash and red cabbage as my main, and créme Catalana for dessert. All the dishes were delicious and wonderfully presented. The mojo rojo was the highlight of the appetizer, and the red cabbage in the main was some of the best I've had. It wasn't too sweet, which I'm glad for. I feel the venison itself was a bit cold, for some reason, and that it was done rare rather than the medium rare I asked for, but otherwise, it was very tasty. I also enjoyed the complementary bread basket, although the crust was just a tad tough. The staff were cheerful and welcoming, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Highly recommend!
This place was on my "want to go" list and I was not disappointed! It was heavenly.... From the atmosphere, the service and the food. I needed an escape and reboot after the visiting London the day before. I absolutely loved my visit and encourage others to come.
Came back after 22 years and still enjoyed it great steak starter and atmosphere, customer service was outstanding won’t be leaving it 22 years for the next visit!
Absolutely lovely evening - fabulous welcome, great looking and tasting food in beautiful surroundings. Not cheap when having wine and cocktails as well but lovely for a special occasion. Thank you for the birthday dessert as well!
A lovely venue excellent service food was amazing.. only downside I asked if meal came with veggies and was told no and ordered them and the meal came with potatoes so we had a few more than we needed. Fig Pavlova was delicious 😋
The food was fantastic and a proper 5*. The service was top notch. I was running late and had to modify my reservation twice and staff were very patient and kind to me and were able to cater to my needs. The conservatory is very beautiful and the ambiance is great. Staff look after you and the wait times are exactly what they say. I went safe with my order and had the char grilled burger and it AMAZING. I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking for great food, excellent customer service and brilliant atmosphere.
AMAZING, MAGIC, PERFECTION, PROFESSIONALISM, WARM ATTITUDE, DELICIOUS FOOD..... I LOVE GEES ❤️ 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘 Amazing Teamwork and Supportive Manager 👏 Daniela Hristova
I was treated to a meal here on Mother's Day. It was a very wet day and somehow miraculously my family had gotten to the restaurant very early but very soggy. We were a party of 5 and they very kindly seated us early. The food was amazing. So simple but so good. The kids portions were really good. Despite being very busy, service was polite, helpful and prompt. Can't wait to go back!
My experience at Gees was amazing. The service was fast and friendly. The menu is small, but everything is interesting. I chose the steak with fries, and although it was a bit expensive, it was tasty and worth it. If you plan to go on a weekday, it is okay to show up, but a reservation is suggested for weekends. They Have a dessert menu, don't forget to ask for that.
We went to Gee's on New Year's Eve for an anniversary celebration and the evening was excellent - a fantastic atmosphere, exceptional hosting and service and delicious food. So glad we were able to get a table!
Managed to get a late booking here for valentine's, being one of the last booking of the night it didn't feel rushed and was a very warm welcome. Great hospitality and food what more can you ask for! Thankyou guys
Lovely food and really great service, even on busy valentine's day! The crab linguine was amazing🦀
A really lovely setting, especially in the orangery/conservatory. Once it goes dark outside, the low level lighting is perfect for a romantic evening. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Made us feel very welcome. Oysters were excellent. Soft shell crab was awesome. The crudo was alright, but a little citrusy, needed a bit more balance. The duck ragu was a bit underwhelming and the pasta was hard and undercooked. Enjoyed the ambience and had a lovely evening. Overall: good, not great.
The atmosphere was very nice. We took a pizza, that was of the thin type but tasty, the steak, that was delicious, and some pasta that was ok. The wine was excellent. The service was friendly even if not particularly attentive. Overall it has been a pleasant dinner, a bit too expensive for what we got.
Love the starters! The seabass and soft shell crab. Mains are just so so
A very nice venue overall, very 'Oxford'. The lamb was delicious, as were the Ratatouille and Potatoe sides. - The Conservatory is large and beautiful, lots of tables - It can get very noisy in there (for better or worse) - The service staff are very attentive and conversational - We walked in on a Sunday evening and got a table, but expect this is somewhere that needs prior booking - Sitting areas clean and well kept - The food was good, if not on the tad pricier side
This is a nice restaurant with good food served in a comfortable environment amd our service was attentive and friendly without being pushy. We went for a Sunday Lunch and thw roast beef was tasty and a good helping, nice roast potatoes and always a good tell, the Yorkshire puddings were good and importantly hot! Worth a visit
My dish was extremely bland, and I did not enjoy it whatsoever. My husband thought the burger was fine. The ham croquettes were good. We had some sort of chocolate cake for dessert, it was very rich. The cocktails were pleasant. Overall, it's definitely not worth the price! I'd recommend going elsewhere. They also put a gratuity tip on your bill without asking.
Lovely setting - I never went before the refurb but I chose to sit in the main restaurant (the glass orangery) and it was a lovely setting. We were given a free prosecco on arrival as I was celebrating my wedding anniversary which was a nice touch. Waitress was cold. The food was very average - rigatoni was disappointing and my wives prawn linguine was nothing special. The antipasti was average - would have loved some mozzarella and could have done without the sardines. Oddly, it doesn’t say what you’ll get. Everything was massively under seasoned. I’ve never used so much salt in a restaurant ever. Drinks over priced. Great setting but below average food and service. Wouldn’t return.
I wish we had enjoyed our evening more! Good: + The space was unique and beautiful! Bad: - Octopus: The cook on the octopus appetizer was uneven - overcooked in some parts and almost undercooked in others despite being the same thickness. - Lamb: Lamb was not seasoned at all; no salt, pepper, or rosemary. It was also unfortunately well-done so it was quite chewy (I was not given the option to choose my temp). - Seabass: the fish dish saved the evening however it came with what can only be described as limp fajita veggies which didn't complement the fish very well. - Service, when available was good, but the servers forgot us for the most part.
Believe it or not, I’ve had my eye on going to Gees for 6 years, since I first came to Oxford for my undergrad in 2019! Yesterday, I went for the first time to celebrate my birthday. The ambience has always looked lovely, and that lived up to expectations. The staff were also very kind, professional, and attentive. Unfortunately, and I actually feel a bit for saying this, but the food was just really bad… Two on my table ordered the gnocchi, which was genuinely awful: it was in every respect just like eating mashed potatoes, without flavour or texture. Two of us had different spaghetti dishes, which were fine, but nothing different to what you could make at home in 20 minutes. A couple of us, myself included, are actually ill today with a bad stomach. The common trait is that we all had the crab for starter and are unwell today, but that could just be a coincidence. The steaks were very average, at best. Overall, after a long time wanting to go, I left feeling pretty disappointed, and that’s a shame. Again, I’d like to reiterate that the staff were great, and the cocktails were also really nice. It’s just the food! Maybe I came on a bad day, who knows.
This restaurant was overpriced as the food in terms of taste and presentation are not up to the standard of theat price paid. The Today’s fish £28.50, Pork Belly £25.35, burger £20.50. Atmosphere is too dark and too small for the two person round table. The issue matters us is the service is disappointing where we were stopped by a waitress when we were walking out of the restaurant, as she forgot to charge us an extra bottle of water in our bill we had paid at £121 and asked us to top up extra £5 ish with another bill printed out separately (we didn’t order any extra bottle of water at all).
Our experience at Gees was incredibly disappointing. It took us about 45 minutes to receive our drinks and appetizers and an additional 2 hours to receive utensils and entrees, which were all lukewarm. What made this experience even more frustrating was to see other white patrons get seated and served faster than us (an Asian family), despite us being seated first. Additionally, we couldn’t help but notice that they all received friendly staff service, while on the contrary, we received curt and unfriendly service overall. This experience was beyond disappointing, as we were so excited to dine here, and it unfortunately completely ruined our nights. Hopefully they can improve on their staff training and treat all future customers equally, with respect and grace.
