Forst time for me the food wasn't my style, but the staff and atmosphere were amazing. I didn't feel compelled to complain in person as my wife and I really enjoyed our stay. I instead left a note in suggestion box about food issue. Got a call back and they left a VM about full refund...wow. I will have to be back and try something else and double tip the waitress due to refund. This is how you run a business.
Moved to Paradise earlier this year and have been wanting to try this place. It didn't disappoint! The food was so delicious and portions were huge. I literally did a happy dance in my seat and my taste buds did one in my mouth!
FOR ME, This is a great , great place and a pleasant experience with all the stuff. I've happened to be working around the area for a few months and oh my goodness. We scored with this place. We tried everything from morning to closing hours and we weren't disappointed. Thank you everyone at Hilltop Café.
Tracy is the Best-- Friends I sat with were imprest at the fact she knew my name and remembered My special requests. The owner always has a cordial greeting. Food is great and prices reasonable. Kept Clean
Best food in town. We never miss eating here when we are in the area. Clean, great atmosphere, nice people. Try the stuffed French toast. It is so good there are no words.
Great food, waitress were too busy for a to go order so they asked a very nice young man to help me. He did a very nice job completing my order. I will come back.
Breakfast at 2:00PM, No problem. Dinner at 11 AM, No problem. Not to mention the food speaks for itself (as the picture shows...gone). Friendly servers, fast service. Can't wait to come back <3 #ButteStrong
I've heard some bad reviews since the took over Jackie's and changed the name after the fire. Thing is though I had a great meal it's still big enough for groups and small enough to be cozy and the meal was fantastic. Goes to show you that you can't listen to everything you here. So if you want a good meal in a nice little diner then stop at the Hilltop when your in Magalia.
They have a great menu, good prices and large portions. The place is clean and promptly clean up the tables and even the bathrooms are warm! The entire staff is very friendly and helpful.
We were so excited to be able to enjoy the Hilltop Cafe, we have been patiently awaiting it’s reopening since the Camp Fire. The prices are great, the portions are generous, the food was delicious and the service was amazing. We will definitely be returning very soon.
Sorry but I don’t want to be disrespected by a waitress when I come in I been coming in here since last year and this is the year I been disrespected by a waitress the two older ladies are more polite to me I would want them next time I come in there to eat here the younger lady maybe in her 20s but I don’t want to be disrespected by anything anymore with a bad attitude problem
Only place to get decent food in magalia, service is good and prices are very reasonable.
Most of the food is good today they sucked. The Hot roast sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy was not good. Tasted bad. Like it was old.
Love this little gem on the ridge. They are popular. Food is wonderful! The staff are all excellent, happy and efficient. The prices are great. It's clean! I like clean restaurants. We go here often and I have never been dissatisfied.
My friend and I decided we would try this place cause it used to be the famous JACKI'S. The seating is booths instead of table and chairs which is very comfortable. The food was fresh and tasty. I had a salad and had to bring half of it home it was so big. Very efficient and great service. Easy in and out and we liked the experience.
I've been to this fine Cafe for breakfast and EACH TIME I AM VERY SATISFIED. The food is great, everything tastes like it should, HOT!!!!! Like it should be The staff are wonderful, very friendly, prompt and well just like people should be.
The Chicken Lorraine was fantastic! The bread on the side was terrific. The iceburg lettuce salad looked disappointing; but, the blue cheese dressing made it delicious. I took my baked potato and soup to go. The service was outstanding. This was my first visit. Just wish they were not out of bread pudding!
Great food and prices
It's rare to find a local place that can nail down atmosphere and great taste. Low prices also give this place incredible value. My family just moved to Magalia and we may have just found our new favorite spot.
Outstanding service, great prices, the servers remember who you are as a person. Shout about to Misty for her angel like kindness and love. The Hilltop feeds our community and what they do matters. Thank you for always helping me!
This place has Great Food at a good Price. Plus it's a good place to go Socialize. You can even Customize your favorite Foods, depending on the Waitress. Most of the time, as long as you have a Big Smile while you're asking. They don't mind!! But keep in mind that extras do Cost... LOL maybe that's why they don't mind!!. Good Times.
Nice family atmosphere, always hearing laughs and happy birthday songs sung from employees to their customers. Friday nights prime rib is so tender and flavorful, not to mention the fresh cooked vegetables and big dessert selection. Great food and staff.
I cannot recommend this place enough! when I went there it was slammed busy and yet they still found a way to see me and under 10 minutes. The coffee is excellent, the hash browns are dank, And when it comes to Belgian waffles, there is no better joint in this area. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Even when they seem to be overwhelmed they still find a way to help people quickly. if you're in the burned area and you need a little pep in your stop in a little joy in your day do yourself a favor and go here.
My family didn't feel like driving into Paradise for a good breakfast, and so we ended up at Jaki's Hilltop Cafe. I ordered the "Balboa " french toast and was glad I did. The food was great tasting and did not take too long to make. My husband commented that his chicken fried steak was great tasting. The service, staff, and overall restaurant experience was very professional and welcoming. We will definitely be back.
Great breakfast. I haven't eaten anything else yet but the breakfast is really great. Hash browns are cooked how you like, the hollandaise is amazing, everything I've had so far has been fantastic. I'll be back for more soon!
Waited over 1/2 an hour for breakfast. Food was dry and bland. 3 egg omelet was $10.00....no fruit, no toast... nothing to go with it. It had tiny pieces of bacon & tiny pieces of tomato inside. Not enough to flavor the omelet. Mostly for appearance! We thoroughly enjoyed Jackie's prior to their fire. Not so much now. **At Jaki's invitation we returned for a duplicate breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by a wonderful meal. The omelet had small chunks of good tomato and pieces of bacon. Plus, I had a couple of options to go with the omelet along with toast. Good service, nice proportions (I couldn't finish it all & had to bring some home) and flavorful. It is once again our local Jaki's and we will be returning for more meals from their large menu.
Great good, huge portions. Friendly staff make you feel welcome and taken care of. A favorite is their Ibacon cheeseburger and fries, the best I've had across the state. The nice thing is they don't overcook their chicken so it's actually tender and juicy
My date and I came here for the first time, on 06/18/2021. We figured since the parking lot is packed, it's either really good - or lack of choices. After eating here, we concluded it's probably both. 😊 We were greeted by a Marissa, and she was our server. She was fun, and helpful. She made a couple of great suggestions, and we were not disappointed! The restaurant was clean, despite being so busy. Our food was served quickly, and exactly as ordered! We noticed all the staff we observed, appeared to be happy. Everyone was working together like a well oiled machine. This would suggest there's good management here. We look forward to returning again soon, because we would like to explore their large menu some more. 👍🏼
I can't say eating breakfast here is the best meal I've ever had but I can say it is a pretty good one. And I can say I've never had a bad meal here. Everything is cooked right and taste good you can't go wrong eating here. But the one thing that does set it apart from many of the places we have eaten at on the ridge, the Hill Top has fantastic staff. The wait staff is top notch in my opinion and they are a big part of why we keep going back. So good food, and great staff makes the Hill Top a great place to eat.
The food is amazing, and the wait times are even better. My party of six had our breakfast served to us within minutes. They must have the Flash in the kitchen. The staff is extremely friendly and incredibly helpful. They made sure we always had drinks, and was there for anything we needed with a smile on their face. It's a 40 minute drive from where I live, but now they will have repeat customers every weekend!
I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. But, waiting for simple foods. Salad's, cottage cheese with fruit plate. Took 45. Min. I asked waitress why the delay?. She said we are only allowed to serve the tickets in order. .. I have worked as cook for all genres of food. From fine dinning banquet, lounge, and coffee house to Cafe. Even a school. And if served by their logic. No one would get service. Know what I'm saying.🤗 Jakie I love you. But you need to train , get new cook.
This place is always great. They have a huge menu to choose from. My fiance is blind so most restaurants don't really stand out to him. He calls Hilltop the "balboa place" He loves them.
Unfortunately we're here to lay my father in law, Micheal Ayers (Mike) to rest, this Cafe was absolutely his" go to" spot, he spoke highly of all the lady's that's ever served him. Myself and his children had breakfast there Thursday morning..it was delicious and service was fantastic....very pleasant and friendly. I want to thank you all for the fond memories you've gave Mike, myself and his family. God Bless!
The portions are generous with a wide variety of diner fare. Amie the waitress is the fastest and most attentive I've had in a long time. She gets your order right and checks to make sure your all good while zipping around. I make sure to get in her section every time I visit
Food was awesome, lots of choices, fair price. And the service was fast, professional, and attentive. Great environment easy parking. I'll definitely be going back.
I love this place, the food is so good and all the waiters are so kind with us everything I go. The prices are ok but they have a lot of offers like the 2×1 Thursday chicken dinner for 15$ it's so good and big. The breakfast in the week have also a really good price
My family always stops at Hill Top when we visit Paradise every summer! The food is good. The price is good. The servers are always the nicest people. They kindly reserved an entire dining room for us when we brought nearly 20 people to celebrate my grandpa's birthday.
Awesome food the owner is cool only problem was wait staff was almost none existent could hardly get water or of them let alone come back to take my order. And there were only 6 people in the place.
Cool looking cafe, friendly staff. Attentive with customers at counter. Made picking up orders very quick and easy.
New to the area and have been here a few times now. Food is good and the portions are generous. Follow up after you get your food lacks and that's why I gave 4 stars.
This cafe is a popular gathering spot for families, groups, and locals in the Magalia and Paradise area. I love their Denver omelettes.
Classic diner. Very roomy. Friendly and welcoming.
yummy turkey bacon avocado sandwich on a ciabatta bread. Really hit the spot today
Everything we got was great! The burgers were awesome and the breakfast skillet i got was out of this world! The prices are really reasonable and the portion size was much bigger than it looked online. Now I have breakfast leftovers! Biscuits homemade and the gravy was great!
Long time well known running restaurant, favorite for the locals. Can't go wrong at Jackie's, French dipped sandwich excellent.
Have only had burgers and breakfast so far, but the service has been nice and quick. The portions v. Price are very reasonable. Chloe was very nice last time I picked up my order and most of the other girls and guys have been very nice here, too. The double bacon burger is huge. And the big biscuit with gravy as a no extra option with most breakfasts is great, too.
Food is delicious and made in a timely manner. Very friendly and professional service. Lovely atmosphere inside with the old school look and music and a beautiful scene of the outside. Will be going back and highly recommend. I got the Veggie Omelette and fruit cup. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal.
This place never disappoints. You get your food on time, the staff is understanding and great to work with. I feel like the prices are Very fair considering this is one of the only restaurants in Magalia. I will eat her again and again.
Hilltop Cafe, always a pleasure to join friends there or just spend a leisurely solitude of great service, smiles and a look out at what's going on in the immediate local. Big HELLO'S to the friends, neighbors and new comers when ever the doors swing open. Service is excellent, the food cooked to the order and they provide the BEST DESERTS.❣ ALWAYS, clean and ready to make you feel at home....👍👍👍👍👍
Only decent sit down eatery in the area. Food is good, atmosphere good for the community surviving a major fire. Only negative I saw was the waitress had a scowl on her face and did not make me feel comfortable asking for any extra help or items.
Great food. Very busy place and they are trying to keep up with all customers. Great service but last time we waited a little longer than usual. Still worth it!
Consistently good comfort food served by a friendly staff. Menu items can be modified easily. Great value for the money. Senior and early bird menu items available. Everything you'd hope for in a cafe.
They are doing o.k. but in my opinion ...it there were a competitor near to them they would find that service is what keeps your customer coming back. A few times I have wished they had competition nearby to keep up their service tactics.
Food is always great. Service is always great. They don't enforce masks but the staff always have their masks on. I realize you can't wear a mask when you eat but most customers have no mask with them at all.
Everytime I order waffles they come cold. Other than that it's very close to my house and convenient. There's so much more on the menu that is good.
Food is good, not quite as good as cozy diner (their parent company down in Paradise) but still the best in Magalia for American food. The blank walls and tile floor really amplify the noise level. They still need to spring for some carpet. It can be really noisy at times. Otherwise, it's good food and a very friendly staff.
Service was good price was great we had the 2 for 1chicken with soup and salad 2 iced tea 4 pieces of chicken potatoes all for $19.49. I can say I'll be going back again. Staff was friendly.and overall good atmosphere.
Hilltop Cafe is a favorite without having to drive into Chico. Fast service, friendly atmosphere, good food. The Country scramble is my goto order. Fair prices at a time where EVERYTHING costs an arm and a leg! (TJB)
Usually a great meal with great service....not tonight tho. Server chick seemed irritated when she had to get us creamer for coffee and then again when I had asked her for a pen. Not to mention her pulling tables out to sweep (it was 6:30pm ?!?) which made an awful racket in doing so.
The food is excellent and well worth waiting for. I had the fried fish. It was perfectly done crispy on the outside and the fish was done on the inside but still flaky and moist. Just the way I like it. Jaki's is neat and clean but Don't be in a hurry when you come here. This is a relaxing place to eat in the country. This is definitely slow food :) this is the second time I've eaten here and each time the food was excellent.
Small home town Cafe with a pretty large menu surprisingly. From the outside doesn't look like much. However, food is great comfort food and people are nice. Stuck with a 4 rating because took a bit of time before our order was taken. My advice, walk in, relax, and just chill for a moment. They will get to you with a smile and the food will be delivered fast. Plus their prices were reasonable!
The food is always consistent! The portions large the sevice is always over the top and for being pretty out of the way the prices make it worth not driving to Chico or Oroville for comfort food you can't make at home!
EXCELLENT BREAKFAST - Small town style with big portions. Great flavor and service was very good, albeit a bit busy and delayed sometimes. Nice staff and comfortable diner atmosphere. A bit in the noisy side and would suggest some kind of sound baffles or tapestries to cut the echo down. Will come back again and again.
Food is good but the wait is too long. Hour for bacon and eggs? I know they are just getting back at it after reopening but wait times are in of need immediate improvement. Staff seems nice but are very conscious of wait and will sometimes disappear to avoid dealing with annoyed customers.
The service was very friendly or I would of given less stars. The food was very bland. There were five of us and only one was satisfied with their meal. We won't be going back. I think maybe they cook for older people that don't require much flavor?? Not sure.
Got a to go order it was ready on time
Obviously the new facility will take some time to get the kinks worked out. Server (Pat ) is terrific, efficient, professional. Nice to have our neighborhood restaurant again. The new digs -very pleasant.
I ordered a steak and it was horrible. Now, please don't think all the food is bad. I've ordered other dinners, and they were great, but don't order a steak. The service is great here.
Great location, average service, but below average food quality. I don't recommend their cheese steak at all. Beef jerky sandwiches would be the right name for it.. Turkey sandwiches with gravy wasn't that good either. I will try something else next time. Any recommendations?
Our waitress was great! Food was decent. But my bacon cheeseburger I'm 99% sure wasn't meat. It had the consistency of spam and it like a flavorless sponge. I'm not usually one to complain, but it has made me ill all week, and I know I have an allergy to methylcelluose so...not to happy about that.
Very pleasant experience. we went there a second time I don't think the waitress was altogether there must have been new kind of rude ordered a Hobie hamburger only gave me garnishes for one side of it I don't think it was thot out very clearly overall put a bad taste in my mouth I think it may be a spell before I go back
Just average. Portions are way too large you can't eat it all and who wants to take leftover breakfast home. Staff chats with the locals and holds up your order. Nothing special. It's cheap that's the only plus.
We ordered appetizers and got our main course first. When we asked about our appetizers our waitress said she was sorry she forgot. When I spoke to the manager about the rate of service He acted like everything'is ok. There were only 12 people in the restaurant and that's including my family and staff.
The food is just okay, it lacks flavor. The service is sub standard, and the Atmosphere is mixed, they have four different TVs on but no sound!!??
Last night we went there . I've been going there and the one in paradise every time I come to town. Last night we got in at 7:30 she said we close at eight. I ordered chicken nachos. I was so disappointed. Hardy any cheese 2 little pieces of onion. So so so disappointed in the quality of the food . Eight o'clock came and it was here's you're to go boxes.
I like the people working there. They are very nice. But the food is just too salty. Everything i tried had way too much salt. I spoke to someone else that lives in the area and he said the same thing. If they wouldn't add so much salt i think the food would be very good. I ended up throwing most of it away it was so bad. Besides that everything else was fine.
Went to dinner with my wife tonight. We usually come once a week. Tonight was a bad day for Hilltop Cafe. We ordered the 2 for 1 chicken dinner. We know it takes a while to cook, but there where tables seated after we ordered are food that ordered and received their chicken dinners before us. We waited an hour ended up leaving after I asked about why they got their food before us when they sat down after we ordered. No response, but they were sorry and there was a few more still before us. Ended up paying for our drinks and left. Chicken still was not ready.
Was excited to go to hilltop, I didn't know it it had new owners. but though we would give it a try. To tell you the truth the food was terrible the hash browns are mushy ,bacon with hard as a rock my eggs are all slimy. I paid a lot of money and didn't even eat it just left ".very disappointing I won't be back. My husband also said toast hard like rock. Same terrible could not eat it.wont be back..😫🤐🤐😪
Absolutely disgusting French Dip. No idea how the other food is but what I did get was absolutely the worst thing. The meat was cut too super thick, it was cool to the touch, and it was rubbery. Please do NOT get the French dip here. It was genuinely inedible.
Got seated fairly quickly but had to ask for water 3 times, had to ask for place settings repeatedly. Finally got them 15 minutes after our food was delivered and even then only got spoons and forks, and only 3 settings for 4 people. The server, who was less than friendly but not quite rude, applied the syrup all over just before she reached our table and proceeded to tell me she's did so as she placed a dripping plate over my lap in an effort to serve it to me. My lap was covered as was the floor directly next to my bench seat. I sent back the 2 kids meals as they were covered in syrup since my kids don't eat it. When she returned with additional food for our table, she reached onto my plate and took my syrup away. The pancakes, eggs and seasoned fries were good but that's where the good food ended. The burger was bland, all of the other meat (ham sausage and bacon) on the table tasted like chemicals and was inedible. I ordered chocolate milk for the kids and got hot chocolate instead and didn't get a refill on any of the drinks. She never cleaned up the syrup on the floor so I couldn't get out and when she saw me trying upon completion of our meal, she went into the kitchen (I thought to get a rag) and then stuff there watching as I passed my 2 year old across the table and then tried to avoid the mess on the floor. Left with syrup covered pants AND shoes, and empty bellies because the food sat on the table, discarded. I was really excited to have another restaurant open on the ridge after the fire but I will not be spending my money there again anytime soon.
I have tried multiple times to give this place a chance. I really wanted to like it since we don’t have many options up here. Today we thought we would eat in. Maybe it would be fresher than the take home we have tried several times. Always the food is soggy. I threw the waffle into our air fryer and crisped it up nicely. Same with the French fries. However with no power today that wasn’t an option. We went for breakfast. I ordered a NY steak and eggs. My first plate came with a lovely sliver of metal. Maybe from the brush they used to clean the grill? Ok no problem it happens. I was told they would get me a fresh plate with new food, but 5 minutes later they clearly brought out the same plate. Then lied to me about it. The steak was the same. The eggs were cold. My hash browns were cold. No way was this fresh food. They assured us we would not pay for my plate yet they overcharged us anyway, claiming that my husbands plate was over $20. I cook way too good myself to ever need to return here again. If I had the means I would open up my own restaurant to give this poor town a decent option.
Boasted chicken was burnt potato was non edible and the salad was just lettuce. When I called to tell them they said they would replace it on another day as they were closing. Just tried to redeem my meal and they informed me that I should have come in before 2 weeks was up to get my meal. She was extremely rude and acted like I was trying to get something for free. I will never go here again.
Ordered a specific meal for grandmother didn't know what was included. If you enjoy not getting what you ordered then this is the place for you. If you enjoy being charged for food you didn't order then this is the place for you. When you return to attempt to get the meal grandmother wanted only to be charged for a 2nd meal. If look forward to having the server accuse you for the mistake he made by not giving you the meal you order by name then this would be the place to go. Once we paid for the 2nd meal if you enjoy being charged for the full meal and only receive the entree non of the sides or the sauce then this would be the place to oder from. And don't even image that you get to keep the wrong meal you fully paid for that they refused to refund for unless you get enjoyment from demanding it before the waitress wisks it off to the kitchen.
Hill Top Cafe have very good food the Help is wonderful. I love Dogs but not while I am trying to eat. Their owners feeding them off their plates. This is the last time we we’ll dine there as it made. Me sick to eat next to dogs even if they say there service Dogs. There should be a special place to seat these folks and there dogs not under our tables. Always in the main dinning room.
If I could give zero stars I would. Some of the girls work very hard and are so dang polite BUT listening to the female manager talk down to the girls and about the performance of others to members outside of management is embarrassing for your restaurant! Do better ! We will NEVER spend another dime there again! I have three stars for service as for the waitress was clearly upset after a conversation with her manager.
So we come to this place today with my four-year-old and my mom. And we see this on the floor and we let that waitress in the picture know. And in return, she starts to ridicule us. And suggest that it wasn't already there. Not to mention the fact that I asked for Something with no tomatoes because I'm allergic. And guess what they gave it to me anyway? And then got mad at me when I said something about it. That's not mentioning all the flies, but that baggy on the floor if my daughter would touch that and get sick, oh boy. And let's not forget about the racist Prejudiced comments that we got from this one. wow #Update..we have tried multiple times to contact management/owner Jesse he refuses to even speak with us to try to make things right according to the "head" waitress. pictured above. very disappointing
