Outstanding experience! Solid 10 out of 10. I went with my coworkers, so we got to try several dishes, and every single one was delicious. The flavors were amazing, and the plating was absolutely beautiful, almost too pretty to eat! The highlight of the meal was when the chef came out and played the violin live. It was such a special touch and really elevated the whole atmosphere. The vibe of the restaurant is warm and charming. It was truly a memorable dining experience.

My husband surprised me with a date night and took me here. It was absolutely amazing. The service was spectacular with the staff being very attentive. It is a smaller and more intimate dinning experience and perfect for a quieter environment. The food was exceptional. Every plate you could see the love, care, and passion Chef George has, nothing cookie cutter. At the end of dinner Chef George came out and performed the violin beautifully. He truly does care and is very passionate about every aspect: the restaurant, the food, and the live entertainment. After, Chef George came to each table spending time talking with everyone. You will not be disappointed or feel rushed (make sure you are not in a hurry to leave). This is truly an experience you should take part in if you can.

French martini set the tone for the rest of the meal. It was light and refreshing. Two menus to choose from for a three course meal. There were plenty of options. Main course was on point! The real star of the meal for me was the dessert, sweet well presented and everything went together perfectly. Even the berries were perfect!

Came to celebrate my birthday, and was not disappointed! The food (pictured below, creme brulee, salmon wellington, and French onion soup) and service are excellent. I would definitely go again, and will recommend to everyone I know to try it out!

Amazing food!! Great, friendly service. Loved the intimate environment. We got the Filet Oscar and the Chicken cordon bleu Wellington as well at the classic French tartar, highly recommend.

The food here is phenomenal. Every single dish blew us away. We were skeptical since the location doesn’t look very fancy, but the food is the best in town. Do yourself a favor and go! You will not regret it.

The Tartar restaurant in Pinehurst, North Carolina, offers a delightful fusion of French-inspired cuisine with accents from Central American and Caribbean fare. The classy atmosphere and impeccable service contribute to a near-perfect dining experience. The balanced flavors in each dish make it highly recommended, despite the higher cost, justified by the overall quality of the food and the dining experience.

Perfection. Rather than bore you with a long review. The simple fact is that Tartare was perfect. Fine dining in a Taylortown shopping center? Absolutely. The service was perfect - thanks, Chris! The food was perfect. The atmosphere was perfect. The ... well, you get it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

We celebrated our 10-year anniversary at Tartare, and it was an unforgettable experience! This is hands down the best fine dining restaurant in the area. The atmosphere was intimate and quiet, perfect for a special occasion. A violinist played during dinner, adding such a beautiful, romantic touch to the evening. The food was absolutely delicious—everything we ordered was prepared to perfection. The tartare, in particular, was the best we’ve ever had. Tartare has quickly become our favorite restaurant in town, and we can’t wait to return for another amazing dining experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy an elegant and memorable night out!

Tartare's food and anbiance were great. We all enjoyed our meal: salmon wellington, crispy salmon, and lamb. The French onion soup was on point, very flavorful. It's an upscale restaurant, so the food portions were somewhat small, yet filling. We will definitely dine there again.

Found a new gem in Pinehurst this evening! We were greeted warmly from the moment we opened the door! Delicious meals and fabulous service made even better by Chef George (a professional concert violinist) playing the violin and taking time to speak with us at our table. Highly recommend Tartare!

For my 40th birthday, we chose to dine at Tartare and it was a celebration that transcended the ordinary. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and elegance. The staff at Tartare set the bar for hospitality. Every interaction was marked by genuine friendliness and attentiveness. They seemed to anticipate our needs, ensuring that every moment of our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the chef/owner, a maestro in more ways than one. Not only did they curate a culinary journey that delighted our palates, but during breaks, he serenaded us with the enchanting strains of his violin. This unique touch added an ethereal quality to the evening, blending the art of music with the art of fine dining. The menu was a masterpiece, each dish meticulously crafted and beautifully presented. From the delicate appetizers to the sumptuous main courses and the decadent desserts, every bite was a testament to the chef's passion and expertise. The flavors were harmoniously balanced, and the ingredients were of the highest quality. Celebrating my milestone birthday at Tartare was an unforgettable experience. The combination of exceptional food, outstanding service, and the chef's personal musical performance made it a night to remember. I wholeheartedly recommend this dining establishment to anyone seeking a dining experience that is as delightful as it is unique.

Celebrated a wedding anniversary here. My wife and I both loved it. The atmosphere and food were amazing! After making us a three course meal the chef came out to play the violin. Great experience!

Incredibly friendly staff, the chef George is very personable and comes out to each table. The food is great! Overall the restaurant punches way over its weight and delivers a primo experience not belied by its location. Would certainly recommend and plan on returning ourselves!

Went here with my husband to celebrate my birthday. The food was excellent, from the house salad to the Coq au Vin. The real MVP was the classic French tartare. Very flavorful, just the right amount of acidity, and plated wonderfully as well. For dessert we split the orange cake. The cake came with fresh fruit which really makes it pop. Overall very good dining experience (we didn't feel rushed at all and the violin was a nice, relaxing touch) and great food. Everything was nicely portioned so I had room to eat every part of my meal and split dessert without it being heavy in my stomach. Sauce was fantastic and the dishes were not over sauced. Chef George clearly cares about his food and the dining experience.

By far the best hidden gem in Pinehurst area. We love the food and chef George is so excited by his creations. Staff and service makes for an amazing experience with top. Notch food. Don’t miss the crime brûlée best I ever had. Chef is amazing violinist as well. Can’t wait to go back again and again.

We had the pleasure of having dinner here last night for the first time. George and his wife truly share a piece of themselves and their life long studies in music and culinary. This restaurant is a gift and a gem to the area. We’re still talking about how we wish we found them sooner. Our server was so pleasant and friendly and the food was fabulous and beautiful. Can’t say enough about this restaurant. We can’t wait to see them again.

Delicious meal. Was blown away by the quality of meat on our steaks and the grill master. Ours were perfectly cooked. Will definitely be back. I ordered the ribeye and the wife got a filet. Hers was so soft you could have gummed it.

A delightful evening for hosting a business meeting. The food was exquisite, and we were not rushed. The violin concerto was an especially elegant touch. The service was superb. Tartare is a wonderful addition to Pinehurst, and we look forward to dining there again.

Party of three celebrating a birthday party. Wide selection of French wines, excellent choice of primarily French menu. Much appreciated Chef George playing Happy Birthday on his violin, as candled cake was presented to the table.

Outstanding! A fantastic French “slow dining” experience the likes of which is unrivaled in this area. A must try if you have not already!

Great food, great experience. Sleeper in the PH area. Guys trip to PH, crew went here a night. We all got different wellingtons, tried all of them, all were great - everything was, from the apps to desserts. Chef came out to play the violin, true master - and added a fun surprise during the meal. Server beyond nice and attentive. 🙏

Tartare is hands down the best restaurant in Pinehurst. The ambiance for a date night for a small group of couples is incredible. The food is consistently exceptional. The Beef Wellington is my favorite dish anywhere, and the duck is always perfect. Their cocktails are just as impressive as the menu, and the service is warm and attentive every visit. This place deserves to be packed every night. If you haven’t tried it, go!

Came here for my anniversary. I had the Tuna/Avocado Tartare, Filet Oscar, and Chocolate ganache. All excellent. 10/10 would recommend for a special occasion.

Second time here now, and the first time we came we couldn’t stop talking about the tartare. Again, the tartare is absolutely one of the best things we’ve ever tasted. We have tried the Argentinian, the Tuna and avocado, and the avocado tartare and all were absolutely amazing. A must try.

I’ve been visiting family in Pinehurst for 25 years and this was the best single meal I’ve had in town; it would be a very top restaurant in all but the top 5 cities of the US and even in NYC it would hold its own as a quality place.

Um there are no words to describe the talent and care put into the food that is presented to the customer. This is 100% the best restaurant in Moore County. I am a little disappointed with the few people that gave this place one or two stars because of wait time that is told to you when you enter the restaurant so there is no surprise because they actually cook your food correctly and expertly crafted. The flavors are paired properly and cooked to perfection. Hands down a 5 star experience. Don’t go to this restaurant knowing there is a wait and bad mouth the place because they are crafting the perfect food experience. Great job and excellent customer service best in Moore County!!!!

The best culinary experience in Moore county is found at Tartare. An exciting and adventurous menu is executed flawlessly by chef George. We started with tuna tartare and tostones bites, opted for the salmon Wellington and filet Oscar for the mains and finished with crème brûlée and Gâteau de Crêpes. The only item I would skip is the crepe cake, it needed more raspberries. Everything else was perfect. Next time I go I plan to try the classic Wellington, his puff pastry is delightful. The service was top notch and the cocktails and wine were excellent. Chef george played the violin at the end of the evening and he’s amazing! All around a 5 star experience well worth the price.

After listening to several friends rave about this little jewel we went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The meal was amazing. We each had a tartare as a starter- scallop and the tuna. It was perfect with a really beautiful balance of flavor. I had the salmon Wellington and my husband had the Cordon Blue. The food was not only delicious but it was hot and fresh and nicely plated. As we finished our wine and just enjoying out time the owner came out and played the violin. Incredible!!! I look forward to sharing this wonderful place with my family when they visit soon. What a gem in out little community. 🥂

I took my wife here for a birthday dinner and I have to say we were astonished with the quality of the food we received. She had been looking forward to having the classic tartare and it did not disappoint. The service was wonderful, and the atmosphere made for a very relaxing but romantic dining experience. Chef George stopped by our table a couple times to check and make sure the food was wonderful as well as taking some time to explain how he infuses the flavors into some of his dishes. The whole evening was a very special and memorable evening for my wife and I and we wish them the best as they move forward and we can't wait to be able to patronize this restaurant again.

Family went here for a Pre Mothers Day dinner and it was absolutely phenomenal! Anthony did an amazing job touching tables and making everyone feel at home. The service was top notch and Chef George was amazing! He came to our table and talked about various dishes, different food and wine pairings, he even played a few songs on his violin for us! This was the best dinner experience we have ever had. Will return very soon!

The BEST steak(Ribeye) I’ve had in Moore County, and have been a resident since 1987. The tuna Tartare is amazing and the Escargot is different than the standard fare, but comes on a delicious baguette. This place will absolutely surprise you, as it does look rather unassuming, but the food and service is absolutely top notch.

Found this place completely by accident while looking for a steakhouse and was very pleasantly surprised! Service is quick, soft music and lighting, and all the food I tried was excellent. I'd never had French cuisine so tried the escargot, the Argentinian Tartare, and the Caeser Romaine Carbonisee, which honestly was the best part. It was all very good, I will be back and am happy to have found this place!

If you're looking to impress her or him. Take them here. Food is very good. The violinist played beautifully. 3 course meal. Which includes appetizer, entree and dessert for each. Including tip. Price range will be between $200 but not above $300. One love.

We’ve dined at Tartare several times over the past few years, and overall the food and service have consistently been good. The mixed drinks, however, have been fairly average compared to the rest of the experience. On our most recent visit, we were surprised by the introduction of a new three-course menu. While there is still an à la carte option, the pricing structure strongly nudges diners toward the fixed menu. Combined with noticeable price increases and smaller portion sizes, Tartare now sits firmly in the very high-end price range—arguably one of the most expensive dining options in the area. That said, it remains a solid dining experience with quality food and attentive service, just at a notably steep price point.

My husband and I had dinner here and it was a different dining experience. I got the beef Wellington, plantain with shrimp, and crème brûlée. The beef was tender and the puff pastry was airy and flaky.

R
Rob Tyska

There were $70 and $90 pre fixe three course options and a la carte, but it didn't have everything the website showed. My wife went hoping for chicken cordon blue she saw, but it was only available as wellington. The lamb and tuna were excellent as were the bananas foster and creme brulee. The server couldn't answer some menu questions and was difficult when asked for plates and forks to share the deserts.

Had my birthday dinner here. Overall I would say the highlight is the wait staff. Call me spoiled but I have had French food in France. I had French onion soup and whatever was served to me was almost black. Usually a French onion soup is a darker brown color. Whatever we ate was dark black and tasted burnt. I ordered the Cordon Bleu while my husband ordered the Beef Wellington. My cordon bleu was super mustard-y and my husband said his Beef Wellington was too salty. I can understand the lack of people in here during peak dinner time. The menu needs an overhaul or some quality checking. Would I come back? Maybe during the weekend with the head chef. I should have checked the reviews when they said the head chef was only around during the weekends.

J
Jacob Flavel

I love Taratre - fantastic restaurant for Pinehurst, usually delicious food and service is always impeccable. However, I would caution against going on weekdays when the head chef is not present. I ordered a medium NY strip and was delivered this (seemingly) boiled abomination that I wouldn’t even expect from Olive Garden. Chef doubled down and said that’s how it’s usually delivered - I imagine he has a long way to go! Anyways, I’ll still be back.

We ate there on 10/25/25. The ambience is strip mall, booths and dark. It’s fine, just know that going in. I feel like the business casual dress code has me expecting something different. The food was just ok. The French onion soup was sweet, the grilled Cesar was more than slightly grilled so it was more like cooked spinach texture and the salmon and the chicken cordon bleu wellingtons were just ok at a best. My son said the filet was also just ok. I am honestly puzzled by the strong reviews.

R
Robert Dapolito

I thought to portions were small although good and took a long time to reach the table. The menus were sheets of paper that looked like that came out of a copy machine and I have seen better utensils in a roadside dinner. For the prices they charge I would expect better. This a one and done for me. I will not be going back.
