Excellent steamed clams, well cleaned and no grit. A fun, eclectic crowd, polite and attentive staff. So much fun! A bit busy but fun!

I highly reccomend the lobster avacado salad..fresh..delicious..we also got the fish fry that was HUGE and delicious..staff very friendly. My favorite, is that its right on the water, so the scenery is perfect watching the boats pass or pull up to the docks and come in!!

Nice place to catch a refreshing drink and a quick bite on the water. Very reasonably priced for food and drinks and service was on point. You have a great staff here and we enjoyed spending a Saturday afternoon here.

Most of the servers are great, the wraps are fantastic! Live music almost every day! Definitely worth going to! Also has docking spots available if you come by boat!!!

Great restaurant! Visiting from out of town and wanted a fish n chips place on the water. This place has the best food prices, kid friendly, adult beverages and has two tiered patio right on the water where the ducks came by and greeted us. We seriously drove around and called all other places in the area and this is the winner! Jessica was our server and she was attentive and kind.

I had the most fabulous time! I went with a friend, made some new friends, bought roses, and felt at home. The food is delicious, the drinks are amazing! I cannot wait to go back again!

I come for the chix bac. ranch quesadilla, it’s the best one around. Haven’t really navigated the menu too much further to try anything else…..yet….I just really love the quesadilla ❤️ nice view of the river, and boats going by. Large stage for bands to perform! I love how quick the staff is to move people/property in a more protected area when a storm starts to roll in.

Schooner's offers a casual dining experience, with inside tables, or tables outside by the water (with or without an umbrella for shade). We love the atmosphere, and the service is always top notch. The food is very good as well! Highly recommended.

Wow I've done a lot of of reviews on wings in Rochester and my top choice has always been the dinosaur. "Not the case anymore" we came here for food and drinks and as always I had to get wings.They offer them deep-fried smoked and grilled. I got smoked and grilled with the gold sauce 😋 unbelievable.... I can't say enough good things. This cook did an outstanding job. 👍

Not only was all of the food delicious but also after my license was blown off the table and through a crack on the deck the employees worked so hard to get it back. They called up the owner and used a dingy from the marina to get underneath the deck and grab it. Everyone was so friendly and reassuring and did a fantastic job helping me get it back! I would 100% recommend dining here!

Very casual, great place to go during the summer. It can get a little loud, but it's just part of the atmosphere & people enjoying themselves. Lots of options on the menu, clearly labeled for vegetarian & vegan options.

We went out last night celebrating my friends birthday. Drinks and atmosphere was absolutely amazing! At one point this man started being a little too intoxicated, running into everyone, bumping into me and all my friends if we were too close to him. The whole staff were aware of the situation and immediately took action by kicking him out. After many failed attempts by him to come back in, my friends and I were nervous to leave. Schooners workers escorted us all to our cars and had employees on the individual also. They made sure we all got to our cars ok and nothing happened. I can’t say how much we appreciate the workers actually caring about and looking out for us. We will for sure be back!

This place is the best place at Ontario Beach. My friends and I showed up a few minutes before the kitchen closed because our volleyball game went late, which I know is a huge annoyance for the staff. But they were so willing an happy to get food ready to go for us. The server and kitchen staff got our wings out to the 8 of us in 20 minutes. Not to mention their wings are amazing!!!

Always had a wonderful time when visiting there. Prices are reasonable for the area of food & drinks.

Great service, good food, and some if the top live music in the Rochester area on the waterfront! Bar tenders are awesome even when busy...they acknowledge you to let you know they see you and will be over asap. Server we had, was fun and made suggestions for both cocktails and food! The hostess came back to check on us as well. Now, that's service! The atmosphere was casual, friendly, comfortable, fun. The band kept they party going even with the threat of rain. Had a GREAT time. Looking forward to stopping in again soon!

Perfect laid back waterfront hangout. Live music, all ages crowd, nice servers, good drinks& food- if you know the menu. Fish items are reliably good, esp the fry & tacos. I went rogue last night & tried the chicken & avocado sandwich in a ciabatta roll. This needs a lot of work. Roll was dry, chicken was cooked but cold & toppings were sparse. Normally I’d send it back but it was so crazy busy & the servers were slammed. My choice entirely & why I didn’t take off a star. Schooners is one of our favorite places to hang out on a sunny Rochester day.

I absolutely love the rum buckets here. The patio area has a nice view of the marina, and the clientele and the staff are very friendly. They usually have a band playing, so you can usually enjoy some good music while you sit and drink/eat. Seating can be difficult to find during busy times, but just talk to the hostess, and grab yourself a drink. It's worth the wait.

Always a great place! Service is amazing, the drinks and food are priced well. I highly recommend the loaded fries, they are BY FAR the best I’ve ever had. The best part, is it’s by the water.

Schooners is so fun whether you're at the bar or dining at a table. The food is really good. For snacks we especially love their coconut shrimp, pretzels with beer cheese, nachos and their wings. But they have a full menu for lunch or dinner, too. Sitting on the water, you feel like you're in another city. The interesting bar decor feels New Englandy and they have great tropical drinks. The bands are so good you'll often see lots of people on the dance floor. Last night we had clams, coconut shrimp and fries and all was delish. I'm sad they'll be closing in a few weeks but look forward to next year!

Visited this local pub on the weekend with some friends and we had such a great time. They had a live band and was packed with the local crowd. Cameron ( not sure spelling it right) our server had a great smile and very enthusiastic which made us feel at home. Great food, wonderful music, friendly staff .. great place overall..Keep it up guys and will definitely visit again soon. 🍻 Canadian visitors..

On Friday June 20th I had a great evening on the water at Schooners listening to an excellent band: Back in Town. Live music is the best.

Schooners is the best place at the beach to get a drink, hangout, and eat. I would highly recommend this place over any other restaurant or bar on the water in Charlotte. We went on a Friday night where they had a live band playing, wait for a table was an hour and a half (but we got a table in 40 min). While we waited we grabbed some drinks at the bar and listened to the music. Once we sat down to eat, our apps, entrees, and dessert were all delivered very fast. Obviously there isn’t anything special about the food, it’s typical fried bar food. But it was great. The vibes here are awesome, the staff is great, and the live music was super fun. We spent our entire evening here and I would absolutely recommend it for others.

I love Schooners, I’m an out of a tower but it’s an always when I’m in town. Easy no frills riverside bar with quick bites. Lawless was fantastic as our server last night. We love the live music and stay for the vibes.

The shrimp and avocado salad with orange ginger dressing was delicious. The shrimp cooked perfectly they avocado was that the perfect ripeness. I also had them add black olives. The portion size was just right so all around it was a great dish. The other dish was fish and chips the fries were nice and crispy the fish was battered well the tartar sauce was delicious again and all around great meal. Our server was very attentive and on point. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon

Had the lobster cakes and chicken and bacon quesadilla. Both were wonderful. Diced grilled chicken, wonderful flavor. Real homemade lobster cakes. Homemade coleslaw was great. Service was fabulous. Shawna was attentive, helpful and pleasant. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. Relaxed atmosphere with a great view. Price of lunch included 2 drinks and tip. 👍👍

They are located on the water and only open during the summer, great place to go on a sunny hot day! You can get food here, nothing fancy but all the bar menu favorites. The drink prices are expensive, $5 for a budlight draft, solo cup size! There was a Blackheart rum special for $5. If it's raining they do have shelter, but limited.

Always enjoy this spot. Food is good, staff is great and dollar value exceptional. The only drawback to my latest visit was wait time at the bar for service. A 2 hr wait for a table was bearable but too few staff behind the bar made getting a drink quite a challenge.

Very busy place with an unusually long wait time. It's nice to be able to have a drink while you wait for your table for sure! 4 stars because there simply isn't enough seafood on the menu, and for the location and atmosphere, it's almost necessary to have some soft of fish sandwich.

Drinks were good, good service for a crazy-busy, beautiful Saturday on the river. Steamed clams were also good, not over cooked! Tasty coconut shrimp. Whatever you do, don’t get the nachos! Possibly the worst I have ever had. But free live music and eating outside make it a fun venue.

Schooners has amazing food, our waitress was great. My problem was with the yellow jackets EVERYWHERE! Whenever you have contraptions catching them, hung all over the place, you're going to have a ton of free yellow jackets flying around pissed off at the world trying to figure out how to get them out! This wouldn't be an issue if you don't have people that are deathly allergic to them. In the beginning of spring spray for them and you wouldn't have to piss them off. Other than that, you have an amazing place, and your food is to die for! No pun intended!

Good food, good booze, great atmosphere! Go check it out! Especially if you can sit by the river. On a nice Rochester day.

Stopped in for lunch prior to going out on the boat. We were a table of 5 and ordered salads and sandwiches. It took more than 30 minutes for the food to come. We had arrived early so it wouldn't be busy. Food was good but once our order came that was the last we saw of our waitress. We had to go find someone to get our check so we could leave.

Host and waitress were great, food options plentiful, food good (especially the cauliflower bites), peaceful setting by the river, however the music, at 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon (not live), was so loud that EVERYONE had to shout to be heard at their own tables. Love the atmosphere and the entertainment. The menu has changed some, so the items we were looking for were no longer available. Many interesting drink specials and mixed spirits. You can beat a sunshiny day on the riverfront when in Rochester. Open for the season with a brand new gift shop.

Eating their food is a craps hoot. All depends on who is cooking. On saturday I ate there and had the Cajun Jack blt. It was amazing. In fact it was so good I called and order one to go on Monday evening. This one was awful, under cooked and the foccia bread was soggy..

The band Rhythm Dogs really good, the sax player was good pretty good music and took requests a lot of dancing . The food was sub par I DONT recommend the "lobster" sandwich , I took a bite and told server it was spoiled... soft pretzels were good...

Food was delicious... But the staff kept standing around and talking to each other and other guests.. I had to wait a while to get refills and as we got done with our food our waitress didn't come to take care of cleaning up and another waitress came over and cleaned up

I don't know it it was just a busy night, but the food wasn't that good. The french fries were undercooked and the burger was over cooked. The drinks were good, if not a little slow to get them.

Disappointed as this restaurant came on the recommendation of a friend and it really could be a great place due to the location. Food is not very good and the place just seemed dirty. The "sand box" for kids is just a bad idea--it adds to the dirty feel of the place and on the day we went, it was nothing more than a dumping ground for parents who had no interest in attending to their kids. We were originally seated at a table by the sand box and moved ourselves after the same unruly, unattended to child threw sand on our table for the third time ruining our drinks. The child was probably no more than 2, and even though we alerted the mom twice, she seemed more interested in cocktails with the girls than parenting and had complete disregard for other diners...the staff also did not seem to care. We went with our young children, so it is not like we are "those" adults who get unnerved around kids. The sand pit is just gross. I wouldn't go back...had a much better experience at the Pelican's Nest across the way--it is much cleaner & the food is better as is the view!

First time eating here, and the experience was so-so. Draft beer options were very limited, and come to find out a pint costs $9.00...anywhere else is a maximum $6.50-$7.00 for a fresh ice cold draft. Upon arriving, the smell of raw sewage was incredibly pungent and made us think about getting up and leaving. Service was prompt, but felt a little bit like we were getting rushed out of there and we were there for 30 minutes max, even though we did not wait for our table and the tables were clearing out quite quickly. The food was hot and fresh, fried green beans were delicious as well as the chicken wraps.

The live music is fun and the location is very nice. Love watching the boats and catching a sunset. The mixed drinks are not good. The last few times I have been the soda is just syrup. This does not make for a good drink. I also don't recommend the food. Going once and having someone get sick ya think it probably wouldn't happen again but....Two times in a row with different people. I don't want to try a third. The wait staff and bartenders are friendly. The service was slow but staffing everywhere is tough right now so expect it to take a little longer. My recommendation is to eat prior, drink a bottle or can and enjoy the environment.

The entertainer was Great!!! The Whole menu needs to be revamped. The fish n chips were good but wings rubbery, favors awful. I asked for crispy. I was not impressed with the chicken wrap...good for drinks maybe

The reason to come here is for the atmosphere and drinks, the food actually is just ok, and isn't as good this year as in the past. Always a crowd when it's nice out, and usually enjoy the live music if you can find a seat. Definitely go early in the evening to get a seat and plan to eat dinner elsewhere.

I have been coming to schooners for years I had one of the worst meals I've ever had today. I ordered a hamburger with cheese lettuce tomato and onions. if they make the hamburger any smaller you might call it a slider. In the onion rings I ordered we're way overcooked very disappointed

Great place to sit by the water and have a few drinks in the afternoon. Gets too loud later in the day. Disappointed in the current menu. Many of our favorites are gone such as the lobster roll and loaded fries etal.

Staff was unhappy and rude even after giving a great tip. We spent about $200 on food and drinks a majority came out incorrect. Hard to order a drink and food, the bar was over crowded with no designated order spot.

Drinks were delicious but food was not. Very greasy, oil needs to be changed. Cod fish didn’t have any flavor and fries were bland.

Stopped on for drinks and dinner...ordered 2 drinks a cheeseburger with mac salad , a cheeseburger wrap which came with chips....the cheeseburger was a processed frozen burger which was waaaaay over cooked and small for $12 and the Mac salad was disgustingly nasty taste. The cheeseburger wrap was waaaay over cooked and dry with no flavor at all for $12.99. Wait staff was ok. View is always good but they really need to improve on their menu and cooking ! Wont ever eat here again. Over priced and bad food.

No one even realized we were there for at least fifteen minutes after we sat down. Waitress was apologetic but continued to forget simple things like condiments or a booster for our toddler. Shrimp app was pretty good but my sandspinner was gross and tasteless. Disappointing from the experience they used to offer.

Had some high hopes for this riverfront bar. Maybe if I was high (or drunk) it would have been better. If you’re here to drink you can stop reading right now as the food won’t matter to you anyway. My wife and I started with the Nachos with beef added. Absolutely nothing to write home about. Generic round half-dollar size chips and cheese whizzy cheese. Then I had the Friday fish fry and my wife had a cheeseburger which she could only eat around the edges as the middle was too rare. The best part of the fish fry was the tarter sauce! Go figure! Lol well at least we had a great view of the river and saw some nice boats coming and going.

Way way way overpriced, we got a pitcher of beer and two wraps and it was 60 bucks. 15 dollars for a wrap and fries is a robbery. It's a nice spot but don't take advantage of your customers and that's exactly how you will feel leaving here... Taken advantage of

We ordered fish and chips, the fish was left in the fryer 10 minutes to long. Server said they would take it off the bill, but didn't. At least the band was decent

My daughter and granddaughter took me to Schooners for my birthday. We were sat at a table and told it would be at least a 1/2 hr for food. 1 hour later we had no food. We ask them to at least bring my grand daughters food, which came out at the 1 hr 30min mark. Waitress told us at least 4 times our food would be on its way. After that she avoided the table. At the 2 hr mark we asked for the check we were told the food was almost ready but we left with out eating. It was a Monday afternoon and was not crowded when we got there. Difficult to rate food when we never got any. We ordered simple salads. As always the view was great, but hard to rate the food we never received. My 7 yr old granddaughter was upset that “papas day was ruined”

Disappointing end to the season... Drinks where very weak. Ordered a Cuban, was smothered in yellow mustard, no pork, and the thinnest slice of ham you can imagine. My wife had a chicken sandwich that was drier than sand. Waitress never checked on us. Won't be back next season the place has clearly fallen on hard times...

I already did. Twice or 3 times fried and left to dry chicken "TENDERS" I wore out 2 plastic forks before I gave up. The staff is a halter top away from being as useless as a hooters shot girl. Love the location, and will probably go back once a summer and remember why I only go once.

Every year I give this Place another chance and every year they fail miserably... $21 and some change for one beer and some very bland quesadillas... Just so I can sit outside and watch them dredge the Genesee... An experienced and understaffed wood prices going up in the menu always getting worse I would have felt better if they just robbed me at gunpoint in the parking lot. Places like this only exist because of how many people are new that gets suckered in and how many people that forget yearly how bad it really is.

We asked how long the wait would be for a table of 2 and were told 10-15 minutes. We put our names down on the list and sat for 40 minutes. I finally decided to walk up to the main hostess station after this and was told our names had to be removed from the list in favor of a large party. They then offered to put our names back on the bottom of the list which was now over an hour wait. The hostess said that's all they could do so we did not end up eating here.

Horrible service! We were seated and no one ever came to greet us or take our orders. When we got up , someone came and wiped it down and took the menus and when asked to speak to a manger he stated we weren’t aware you were seated there. How did your hostess know to wipe down the table and take the menus and the manager passed our table twice and never acknowledge us.

Nachos were basically ball park nachos with stale chips and that nasty liquid cheese and beers were $9 for beer that costs $7 max anywhere else. Fish and chips was decent so I wasn’t going to mention anything but $9 hayburners so here we are. Bar a couple hundred feet away had the same exact beer for $6.25. Its sad but Honestly could have gotten better food at bill grays. Don’t waste your money

Never ever ever again. Went to schooners tonight to pick up an order my wife was making as I left the house. The sandwich she ordered for me was a Tex mex chicken sandwich off the menu I googled. I got there was treated nice as usual got my order and went alllllll the way back 20 minute drive to my home. When I opened my food The container said Cuban then the sand which had ham on it. Which I don’t eat. Called the restaurant right away and talked to a young lady that said she never heard of that sandwich. I said please let me talk to someone else another person got on the phone and was even more less than helpful. I spent $50 in that place (including tip) and am still very hungry. Will not be back there nor would I suggest anyone order from there(take out). Very displeased at the professionalism or lack there of.

Just had a fish fry and found it to be very greasy and the batter extremely thick. I will say I've had better meals there in the past.

That Mike guy is a liar. These are the worst fish tacos I’ve ever had, and I always love fish tacos. They are nothing but greasy breading and dry cabbage in a tortilla. No seasoning or crema. They came with a large side of country sweet sauce for some reason, which is tasty but also does not belong anywhere near tacos. Disgusting.

Place blows, bartenders have no clue what’s going on in the slightest. Good at looking busy and doing absolutely nothing! Average age of the people attending are 65+, everyone’s just clueless. Would give it 0 stars but the location on the water is nice

Wife ordered tacos the shells were contaminated from a dirty grill there’s a difference between grill marks and grill char on the shells her hands were full of black dust 🤡 we went 1/2 -1hour after they opened table was dirty/sticky also floor had lime slice and debris all obviously wasn’t properly cleaned from night before. First impression sells your product and in this case won’t be back

Took a ride by boat for dinner and were met by family who drove. We always enjoyed the Caesar salad there. No longer on the menu. Decided to try new items and ordered Philly Chicken sandwich, Taco bowl, and chicken finger and fries. Every part of each meal was BLAND and over cooked. No flavor. Dry chicken. The Taco bowl lacked any taco seasoning. Service was average to slow with awareness on need for drink refills. Very disappointed as we looked forward to visiting here after a rough season due to the water issues. Sad to say, we won’t be back. Over 50$ spent, left so disappointed, we are still talking about it the next day.

I went here with my niece's and sister. It was around 1:15 in the afternoon. There weren't to many customers and having said that, it was one of the worst places I've been too. Our food came out after 45 minutes. The 2 salads that were ordered were black. The chicken on it was a pinkish red color and old. My wrap had mold on it. The french fries were cold. My sister ordered a pina colada and it was disgusting. I would never go back again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. The sad part about it, was the manager basically told us if we didn't like it, we could leave. Wow!! Great management skills.

This place is an absolute joke. My fiancé and I got a grilled cheese and fish tacos and it took an hour and a half to have that “made”. food was cold, fish was under cooked and had plastic in the taco and the bacon grilled cheese was just burnt and soggy with uncooked bacon bits instead of slices of bacon but we only found that out after we left because we were so sick of waiting i had them put it in to go boxes . When we had it ready to go and packed up i laughed when they brought me the check and when i spoke to the tattooed manager he was just ridiculous. Said “so you don't want to pay but you still gonna take the food?” “Im sorry”i said but why would i sit around for almost 2 hours and still not get what i wanted. He then said what so its my job to feed you?! Crazy for him to say that so surprised must have forgotten after the coke he did in the bathroom before talking to me ( yea i saw that too!) he then proceeded to say fine this transaction is voided and have a nice life don't even think of coming back here ! Not a problem.

Food is terrible. Everything is overcooked. The fried food is fried to death to the point that the food being fried is all dried up. Service is terrible and you have to chase down the servers often. The only thing this restaurant has going for them is the atmosphere.

Where Racism Still Gets a Table Before You Do I want to preface this review by saying that Schooner’s has always been a summer staple in my life—even after I moved away more than a decade ago. I’ve celebrated countless birthdays here, marked life-changing milestones, and shared laughter with my white friends and family. My connection to this place runs deep. My family has also had a longstanding relationship with Shumway Marine, storing our boat there over the winter months for decades. Schooner’s was always a place filled with positive memories—until now. During a recent visit with a Black companion, I experienced something that left me shocked, deeply uncomfortable, and frankly, heartbroken. We were visiting from North Carolina and decided to stop in for lunch. When we approached the host stand, the hostesses told us they needed to “check” on table availability. When they returned, they were unexpectedly accompanied by a large, bald white man who appeared to be a bouncer. Without any greeting or explanation, the man immediately asked for our IDs. This was not only inappropriate—it was alarming. We were entering a restaurant, not a nightclub or private club. It quickly became apparent that the staff was looking for any excuse to deny us entry. The man examined our IDs with excessive scrutiny, then began asking a series of pointed, interrogative questions about our visit. The tone was invasive, the questioning uncomfortable, and the message unmistakable: we were being targeted. We were being discriminated against—blatantly and unapologetically—before we could even be seated. Despite the discomfort and shock, we remained composed and chose to stay. As we waited several more minutes to be seated, we watched as the hostesses whispered among themselves and proceeded to seat multiple white parties who had arrived after us—while we continued to stand by, ignored. Eventually, we were shown to a table, joined by two additional guests, and waited patiently for service. Over 30 minutes passed without a single acknowledgment from any server. Staff walked past our table repeatedly—some making direct eye contact, others outright glaring—but no one stopped. Meanwhile, the white patrons around us received friendly, prompt service. When we asked a passing waitress where we could order drinks, she told us she’d be right back to take our order. She never returned. After 45 minutes of being ignored, humiliated, and made to feel wholly unwelcome, we left. The contrast between this visit and every prior experience I’ve had—with white companions—was undeniable. This wasn’t inattentiveness. This was not a misunderstanding. This was a deliberate, targeted pattern of racial discrimination and exclusion. The entire experience left us feeling dehumanized and disrespected. I am not writing this review out of anger, but out of a responsibility to speak honestly. If you value fairness, dignity, and equality, I urge you to reconsider supporting this establishment. What happened to us was unacceptable—and I will never return.

We’ve been regulars at this restaurant for a long time and have always enjoyed our experience—until tonight. I came with my boyfriend, my sister, and her boyfriend, who is African American. When we arrived, the staff asked him for identification, but didn’t ask anyone else in our group. That alone was unsettling. What followed made things even worse. After being seated, we waited over 35 minutes and not a single server came by—not to greet us, take a drink order, or check in. We watched other tables around us being served while we were completely ignored. Eventually, we left feeling hurt, unwelcome, and deeply uncomfortable. This experience was heartbreaking for all of us, especially my sister and her boyfriend. It’s painful to feel like someone you care about was treated differently because of the color of their skin. We had never experienced anything like this here before, but the contrast was impossible to ignore. I hope the restaurant takes this seriously. No one should ever have to feel unwelcome or less than in a space that is meant to serve the public equally. We expected better—and we still do. I will have a hard time going back after this.

It would have been nice if the hostess let us know from the start that the menu was going to be very limited last night. We waited over an hour after being quoted 30-45 minutes. As we were waiting people that came after us were being quoted 2 hours. Anyways, when we got to the table it was then we were given a “pub menu”. It had everything a la carte and was very limited to what we can get. The server said they have a short kitchen staff that night and they knew it was going to be busy so they “shrunk” the menu. I guess to keep the customers in and out on a revolving door for quick turnaround. I went for the lobster roll. If I would have known I couldn’t get it because they shrunk the menu I would have never waited. We walked out. Very disappointing.
