It was cool eating breakfast in a diner I'd seen several Route66 shows eat in. It's a simple building with some realnhistory fastened to the walls. An easy way to learn a little about Ludlow's history. We were looking for a great diner breakfast and got exactly what we were looking for. Check it out, it's worth a stop.
Ludlow Cafe off the 40 freeway is a classic American diner that offers an authentic and charming dining experience right in the middle of the desert. The food is really good—fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for from a true diner. Whether you're stopping for a quick bite or taking a break from a road trip, this place delivers on all fronts. What makes it even more special is the amazing charm of the location. Eating here feels like stepping back in time, with a relaxed atmosphere that perfectly captures the spirit of Route 66. The fact that it’s a family-owned spot adds to the warmth and friendliness that you can feel as soon as you walk in.
Food was good and at great price. Staff is very friendly and the decoration is lovely and really on theme. They also are aware about gluten-free options which doesn't happens always.
We have been coming here for years our way to, Arizona, Oklahoma and Nevada. Of course not in that order. The food's good the staff is wonderful and it's a good place to stop and rest. They have pie that I mentioned they have pie.
Good food and helpful friendly staff. Food is reasonably priced with good selection. Perfect spot to take in route 66. We stopped to avoid the rain before realising that it was on historic route 66, easy to access from the I-40 and more personal service than the big chains. Parking is directly outside but entrance is to the side of the building. Good view out on route 66 if you're sitting at the front tables
We stopped here for lunch and then had car trouble. We ended up stuck at the Ludlow Cafe for hours, and I don't think we could have found a better place to be stranded. The staff here treated us like family, making us comfortable while we waited for repairs and even giving us water and a bowl for our pets. I will be back whenever I am in the area, and I suggest you stop by too!
Best breakfast I've ever had. Look at the size of that hamsteak! $15 for all that food. I've got enough leftover for lunch. This historic, cozy, friendly little cafe in the desert of southern California is wonderful. They didnt get dial/pushbutton landline phones till 1988. This the only truck stop/hotel between Needles and Barstow (150 miles). Route 66 man. Gotta love it.
What a great place. I was on the way back from laughlin where nothing opens early anymore so I was gonna stop in Barstow but said let's try this. I will never stop anywhere else on my way to the river again. Service was top notch and food was amazing and came out quickly job well done will be back....
Had a great chili cheese omelette here, hubby had a French Dip. Food was great, service was excellent. A great stop on our Route 66 roadtrip.
4 of us ordered hamburger and French fries and it was good. My husband ordered a piece of cherry pie and it was just ok. The waitress said they aren’t that busy. The atmosphere: it’s an old cafe and the bathrooms are terrible. Prices are high.
What an unexpected pleasure. Had to stop for gas and found this diamond in the rough. Good old fashioned meals at a great price. Friendly unhassled staff even though training a new worker. Food was excellent, like mom used to cook. 🥰 Cute decor with old cast iron and wood implements for old days. STOP here if you get the chance⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice little place I had the ground round and eggs breakfast home fries. Everything was very good home fries were real home. Fries had right toast very good and fresh. Everything was great for a reasonable price for today’s prices I shall return.
We struck gold at Ludlow Cafe! If you're going to stop make it here! Food is awesome staff are great plenty of parking for RVs /trailers
Nice older small cafe with fast friendly service and good food.
Adorable cafe with a hearty menu and a terrific staff! Great little spot to grab something substantial to eat on your way to and fro.
Had a lovely lunch at the Ludlow Cafe. As you enter the cafe you find your own seat rather than waiting to be seated. Tables and booths are spaced out nicely so you do not feel squashed in. Staff came quickly to take orders for drinks and provide menus. The menus have a large selection of food to choose from, including all day breakfasts. We opted for the luxury burger with fries and the hot beef option. The waitress took the time to explain exactly what was included in the hot beef dish. Both choices were really tasty. Coffee was refilled three times (which was also good). The restrooms were clean and tidy and stocked well with essentials. Staff were warm and welcoming, and the cafe was full. There are lots of interesting things to see inside the cafe as well as outside. We were able to get some good photos for our holiday album. I 100% recommend this cafe to all.
Great food. As a trucker, I don’t get a lot of Vegan options when eating at restaurants, but I decided to try this awesome cafe. Amazing customer service. Nostalgic experience looking at the history of the location while walking outside. It felt great, spiritually, being here. They accommodated me and made me a Vegan hash brown with plenty of veggies. It was definitely yummy. And they treated me so well. I really appreciate the servers and cook who helped make this place a wonderful stop for me. I’ll definitely be back soon.
Updated Review Ludlow Cafe Route 66 Ludlow, California March 14, 2024 We decided to head towards Route 66 Ludlow, California, after visiting Route 66 Amboy, California. Yes, we were both a little hungry. we stopped at Ludlow Cafe on historic Route 66. As usual, the service was fantastic, and our server was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious 😋 as always. Ludlow Cafe Route 66 Ludlow, California As we were heading back to San Diego, California, on one of our Road Trips, we decided to stop off in Ludlow, California. It was extremely windy and Dusty on that day. We knew we wanted to dine at the Ludlow Cafe on historic Route 66 just to have lunch and rest for a bit before heading to Amboy. We had previously stopped here before, but the cafe was closed by the time we arrived in the evening. This trip we arrived early enough to have breakfast before heading to our next destination. The cafe / diner is a nice size. The service was great as we were seated immediately, and the server was friendly and outgoing. The food we ordered came out quickly and was delicious. We had a great experience here, and hopefully, we will stop off again.
Quaint little place, right off the freeway. Easy access for all size vehicles. Very friendly service & good food. They have things like homemade Bannana-Nut bread and Orange Marmalade. The Chef salad wasn’t anything to write home about (iceberg lettuce, sandwich ham & sliced cheese julienned, tomatoes, a carrot stick & a celery stick).
Literally some of the best food I’ve ever had. Loved the chicken fried steak until the waffle came out, and WOW!! We were blown away at how delicious it was! Soft and fluffy, but sweet like a cake. Obsessed!!!
Loved this spot in the middle of nowhere. Breakfast was amazingly good. But the blueberry pie could be so much better. Paid $30 for a blan pie. No taste at all. Was very disappointed. But not waitresses fault or cooks fault. Which is why I still gave 5 stars.
Classic Route 66 Stop Nostalgia, Great Coffee & True Americana ☕🇺🇸 Driving from Williams, AZ back to Los Angeles, we wanted one more dose of Route 66 authenticity and Ludlow Cafe was the perfect choice. The place has that true vintage roadside diner vibe: triangle-roof architecture, warm lighting and a cozy counter that instantly takes you back to the golden days of American road trips. Inside, you’ll find friendly staff, good coffee, and homemade pies that regulars swear by. The interior décor feels frozen in time Route 66 signs, souvenirs, and Christmas ornaments that add a touch of small-town charm. There’s even a bit of history out front: the “Project Carryall” monument and old mining carts from the 1880s make this spot more than just a café it’s part of California’s desert heritage. The place is clean, quiet, and right off the highway, with free parking and easy access for travelers. It’s ideal for anyone crossing the Mojave on I-40 who wants a relaxing break and a taste of Americana. #Route66 #LudlowCafe #RoadTripUSA #ClassicAmericana #DesertVibes #California
Very quiet & very quaint. The prices were fine. My wisdom teeth had came in and she made sure to hook me up with something that I could handle. The lady was very nice and the staff that came out were all very professional.
Loved the food! I had ham & cheese omelet. Not huge but NOT small in portion. Very tasteful! Hashbrowns were cooked perfectly no not cooked white shreds of potato taking up the portion. Pleasant and retro. Clean, service was like an old friend. Cute souvenirs and not pricey.
A route 66 OG. I stopped by on the way to an off-road trip in the Mojave Preserve. Had the Breakfast Special which is two eggs, sausage patty, and a Belgian Waffle. The staff was super friendly and welcomed me right away. Nothing beats the ambience of the cafe...really throws you back to the 1970s on Route 66.
Was driving back from a fun Labor Day weekend, first in Vegas and then in Needles CA, on our way back this restaurant was the one of the only options that we encountered to dine at. We arrived at the gas station ⛽ nearby and checked the DQ to see a ridiculously long line for both a meal and the bathroom! We called Ludlow Cafe, not only were they open they had almost now one there with plenty of room to sit and eat! We ordered, the French dip, pancakes, biscuits with gravy, and burgers! Aside from it being reasonably priced, the service was incredible and the food was great! There was incredibly good energy and I can tell it's a local gem because I certainly saw it's shine! Has some great history on the back of the menu and on some plaques outside, highly recommend! To our server, she was incredible forgive me I almost forgot to leave the review and her name slipped my mind but both her and the bus boy were incredible folks! Happy Labor Day (4pm Labor Day 2025)
Kim is a great host and the kitchen staff is AMAZING! This place is underestimated because the food is so good. I almost for and didn't get the pictures. The home-made orange marmalade on my toast and my mans French toast was delicious, try it. 💯 he inhaled his biscuit and gravy 😂 We stopped here on the way home from Laughlin. Ludlow Cafe is worth the stop and we will be returning. Thank you LC staff!!
Really good breakfast! Friendly service. Interesting stuff outside including a couple of historical plaques. No dogs allowed inside so we ordered to go. Three picnic tables available.

Great breakfast and really good service by Molly, real American authentic experience on route 66, definitely recommend going
Cool vintage spot. Loved the vibe. Fresh pies available. I stopped for lunch and had the special, fried shimp and a bowl of clam chowder. I loved the chowder and should have stuck with that. The shrimp lookef yummy but it was all breading..I did not know there was shrimp so small...smaller thank salad shrimps. But others were ordering and eating burgers....they looked delicious!
Lots of stats for character, old as the road around it, did not have a rotary dial phone until 1988! You had to pick up the phone and talk to an operator in LA to dial another person ( no number, they would know by the ring of the phone who it is for). Food leaves a lot to desire. This only vegetarian option is fruit salad, which is pretty cold and hits the spot, with some sorbet in the middle.
Food was very good. Place was understaffed and it took a long time to receive our order. Waitress was very nice but she had no help.
Great little historic diner. True Americana. Friendly locals serving up quality comfort food.
We only came in for pie and it wasn’t the nicest pie I’ve eaten - but the meals did look super delicious. I’d highly recommend this cafe because it was an awesome experience and inside the cafe is a treat! We really enjoyed visiting the cafe on our trip of Route 66 and I’d definitely go and enjoy a meal there next time.
Quaint historic diner that’s unassuming and just perfect. Imagine a diner that you saw in a movie in a faraway place with history and attitude and memorable and old and eccentric and this is it. The watermelon slice was enough for a family. The coffee is ok but the service and attitude is friendly and memorable.
This is a historic piece of the old route 66 , outside of the Cafe are two markers erected by E Campus Vitus, a mens historical society also known as ECV. The food is very good both times I stopped there, first time I had chicken fried steak dinner and it was very delicious, the second time I had a double cheeseburger and fries was excellent .
Interesting little Cafe in the middle of nowhere. They have an atmosphere that tells of the history of this little one horse town. The service was friendly. The fries were good. Unfortunately there was nothing "Deluxe" about the Deluxe Cheeseburger. Just a basic burger with processed American cheese. It wasnt bad though. Overall, if I happened to be passing by right at breakfast or lunch, I'd stop in again. Otherwise, I wouldn't make a special stop for it.
The Ludlow Cafe is in the middle of nowhere. We love trying the "hole in the wall" spots for hidden gems. The Ludlow Cafe did not disappoint. Our server Tayler was super nice and attentive. I had the taco salad in a homemade shell. My husband had the patty melt with fries, and onion rings. The food was good and filling. Food was a bit pricey but welcome to 2025 😂
Little cafe off historic Rt. 66. Decent food, great fries, and friendly service. Would have liked a bit more potions. Salad is just a bowl of lettuce. French dip (15.99) and patty melt (13.49) was just what the Dr. ordered! Pretty much in the middle Of nowhere. Seat yourself and food came out rather quickly. Cool decor inside and out. Worth the stop!

The food quality is just average and not worth the price. If I come here again, I’ll go to the next exit where there are many more options.
This is an iconic Route 66 stop, and I wish I could give it more than 3 stars. But the food was nothing special, and the service was not great--one sandwich didn't come as ordered, we had to ask for our check, and it took a while to get it. The interior is worn and doesn't fit with the building's amazing Googie architecture. I know it's a struggle to keep these places going, and I wish the owners the best and hope they are soon able to improve things.
Food was good . They had some I guess homemade jelly in lil container sitting on tables but no date. What's up with that? Although I was trying to save a lil money so I ordered a biscuit and gravy with a side of home fries. Had id of known the price of the so calles side of home fries which was $5.99 I would NOT of ordered it. Because the simple fact is I could of got a WHOLE meal for a lil more but I compare the price or that and the biscuit and gravy I could of gotten a whole meal and my drink !!! So that ticked me off big time. I don't plan to stop there ever again!! And the 10% off from motel is just tax which I figured.
Decent food at decent prices. Typical American menu. Pleasant waitress and quick preparation of the meal.
Took forever for the waitress to notice us, wasn't even busy. She was friendly though when she did ask us what we wanted. Me and my Co driver ordered a bowl of chili, bacon cheese burger, and coffee. It ended up being 19.50. 3 stars for the wait, and for how average everything was. The cheeseburger had no flavor and was small, the chili had a weird flavor, good coffee. The fries were actually pretty great, I love a nice crunch to my fries. The burger would be significantly better if the bun was toasted, and if the burger was juicy.

Way too much gravy on chicken fried steak. Fried cod was heavily breaded and mushy.
Meh. I can say I've been there now. Staff was friendly. Service was good. Food was sub-par. The Deluxe Cheeseburger at nearly $15 was a frozen burger patty on a small, cheap bun. Fries we great and cooked as ordered - extra crunchy. On one hand, I get it. It's a hole-in-the-wall place in the middle of nowhere but I did expect a handmade burger for that price. One and done for me.
So this is called the “deluxe burger” ain’t nothing deluxe about this happy meal Portioned plate of garbage . Let me say I was soooo excited to come eat at this place, and might I say that will never happen again. The waitress acted like she was so busy heavy breathing and she had 4 tables . Maybe a little less cell phone use and more waiting on tables . I ordered a water with lemon and that took 9 min to get . I had to walk back to her and ask for it she said she forgot . I just was very disappointed.
Waitress was nice. Food is overpriced for poor quality, poor flavor and small portion you receive. Fries were cold. Hamburger patties small and tasteless. Generic buns.66 I ordered the famous French dip..... let's just say they should retire the plate. 1oz side of ranch for 1.69. Meal was 1 French dip w/fries, 1 cheese burger w/fries, 1 deluxe burger w/ fries 2 drinks and a side of 2 scoop ice cream which was 2 half scoops--- $69. Save your gas, stomach, time, and $ keep driving. It seems they take advantage of the patrons knowing they don't have much option at that point.
We ordered two Rueben’s, one with a side of potato salad and the other with French fries. To go. The Rueben was soggy, did not have thousand island dressing, just mayonnaise and only two thin slices of corned beef. The rye bread was good though. The portion of the potato salad was about a 1/4 cup, but the fries were amazing. Definitely not worth the $44.00. Thinking that this place is better for breakfast items.

I stopped here to grab a bite the reviews where nice . I sat at table grab a menu I was there 10 mins no one approached me for help so I walk to the register and and stood there 5 more mins with lady’s standing there never said a word to me . So finally I ask where they taking orders I was told they would be with me in a min . Granted I’ve been in this place for 15 mins I just sat the menu down and left . To my fellow Truckers don’t stop here .
Place was dirty. Staff was unkempt, definitely not attentive. Toilets were foul. Just decided on toast and a cuppa, as not to be rude by walking out
The worst place we have eaten at after 15 days travelling the west coast. The waitress who served us was unfriendly, the burgers and sandwiches were of poor quality, you have to pay extra for the mayonnaise and, to top it off, when we went to pay they wouldn't let us pay with a credit card. Please don't stop there. Not bad, terrible.
I left Rosamond, CA, earlier this morning, heading back to my Home in Kingman, AZ. I purposely drove the 2+ Hours to have Breakfast at the Ludlow Cafe; a place that I try to dine at everytime I pass through Ludlow. The food and service are generally good and the atmosphere is somewhat quiet and a nice respite from I40 travel. In addition, the Cafe is locate on Route 66, and I try to frequent these establishments from a bygone era because they too may soon be gone. Several Years ago I met one of the Owners of the Cafe (and the town of Ludlow). I had a nice conversation with her. But I wonder how she would feel about my experience today. The Cafe was nearly deserted when I arrived, except for one "patron" who was having breakfast. I sat in a booth and had a brief conversation with the Waitress. This "patron" was on his cell phone, being loud and obnoxious as he spoke to someone who was on speaker. I mistakenly believed that out of common courtesy he would either end the call or tone it down, but he did not. The Waitress did not seem to care either. After ordering and continuing to listen to this man who obviously had no respect for others, I approached him to ask him to tone it down. He just ignored me and continued talking on the phone, complaining that I was bothering him. I then asked the Waitress if she would do something about it. Her, and another man who seemed to be employed in the town, told me that the man had just as much right as I did in the Cafe. Funny, I didn't feel that my being quiet and wanting a quiet meal interfered at all with his meal, but his activity interfered with mine. Seeing that this was no longer an establishment I wanted to patronize, I gathered my belongings and walked out. The Waitress said she could find me a place in the back room! Really?! This guy is the problem and I have to move. I will NOT be back to this Cafe ever! I have no intention of doing any business in Ludlow from now on. On the occassions that I travel through and require a bathroom break, I will use the Gas Stations, where I will most likely leave something similar to the way I was treated today!
Food was okay but meat too lean service at cashier is nice didn't stay just take away., ordered double cheeseburger on menu says $15 asked me if grilled onion said yes jumped to $21 umm ok, but why i got charged $25.51 on my bank after i left ????????? No drink and just a little fries and please at least for take away use some paper for food instead of straight contact with plastic with hot food. I WANT TO KNOW WHY $$25.51
We were traveling through and decided to stop in for breakfast. We walked in to an empty restaurant and a lady talking loudly on the phone about personally affairs. She only greeted us when we walked in but continued her conversation; it wasn’t until she was finished that she came over to the table (roughly 5 minutes) to grab our drinks and order. It only got worse from there. We ordered biscuits and gravy and a bacon cheese burger with chili and cheese (they claim the chili is homemade, but, it looked and taste like Hormel from a can). Our order came out- the gravy was lukewarm.. and that’s probably a generous temperature. It was somewhere between lukewarm and cold. Not like just came out of the refrigerator cold but not warm like it’s been on the stove warm. I pushed it to the side and my husband split his burger with me. They’re frozen patties. So, they lack flavor. It doesn’t matter how much salt and pepper you throw on it, those things just aren’t good! The chili was a bit warmer than the gravy, but, not warm enough to where it felt safe to eat. The only good thing coming from this experience was she kindly didn’t charge us for a single thing. I understand Ludlow is a small town, out in the middle of nowhere, so, the talking on the phone and letting locals know all your business is just the norm- however, they’re a Route66 “attraction”. That’s how they advertise themselves to draw in travelers. It worked, clearly, we stopped. However, if you’re going to put so much emphasis on getting people to stop in, that same effort should be applied to delivering a satisfactory experience. I don’t know whether the lady we encountered was the owner or an employee, however, she was kind about it and kept insisting that “this isn’t the way we normally operate”, which, is fine, I understand that orders get messed up and everyone has “an off day” but, when food comes out cold (especially gravy during breakfast hours) that’s a concern. I don’t want to get sick!
Service was terrible the server was more interested in helping her friend with her cell phone than taking care of customers. I finally ordered the special and it was just as bad took forever to get no customers in building food was cold beacon was dry poached eggs??? Just look at picture the waffle was ok but the syrup was high fructose garbage
