We visited Tiya for the first time in late September as a prelude to a Reception our son was hosting there later in that week. While we were prepared for an interesting experience of elevated Indian food, what impressed us most was the combination of ambiance, hospitality and a well coordinated team, who make this place special. We tried a variety of dishes and desert as well as their signature cocktails - and everything was bursting with flavour, freshness and the right touch of finesse. I'd like to in particular thank: Chef Pujan Sarkar - Chef & Owner Roger Gomes - General Manager Izler Thomas - Mixologist and Lead Bartender and Madison - Sommelier If you're in SF and looking for a great meal with a special ambiance, Tiya is a must visit! We will definitely be back!
From indianne in Chicago to Baar-Baar in LA, me and my wife have covered almost all the restaurants by chiefs Sujan and Pujan Sarkar. Both are brilliant in the food they serve and master in the pallet they cater too. Hands down to them as any resturant having their name symbolisis Indian cuisine excellence and same is the case with this beautiful place in SFO bay area. We came here to celebrate my birthday on July 23rd and as always this place blew us away with the culinary genius and mouth watering flavors. We tried their tasting menu (of-course) and every element in the plate was beautifully/thoughtfully placed and were to die for -kudos to the chiefs in play!! I am already a huge fan of the chiefs and this review might seem bias (so be it) as they deserve it. Thank you again chiefs and Tiya team for hosting us and making the day special!!
Truely a treat to have dinner here! Every plate is thoughtfully designed! Amazing presentation of food with amazing taste. Starters main course and dessert! Everything commendable with extra ordinary presentation!
Great food, lovely atmosphere. I want to thank our accommodating server who was very careful about helping me avoid cilantro, which was easy to do and still get around the menu. Beautiful room! Mezcal cocktail was de-lish so was the bourbon/butter/popcorn one.
Have been here a few times now, and Tiya has been consistent with the quality of food and service. I ended up taking their tasting menu everytime so can only comment to those .. and they never disappointment. Being a person of Indian origin, I must say that they have done justice to the flavours of India... a modern take on traditional flavours while maintaining the true essence.
This was our second time dining here, almost exactly a year apart, and once again the service and quality of the food were outstanding. Every dish impressed, but the lobster special, not in the menu—was my favorite. Highly recommend if you get the chance to try it.
Sometimes you go out for dinner and it's just... fine. Good food, decent service, you pay the bill and move on. And then there are nights like the one I had at Tiya, where everything clicks and you remember why you love exploring restaurants in this city. Grabbed seats at the bar, which turned out to be the move. Izler was behind the bar and candidly, he made the night. I'm talking top-tier service - attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without being a show-off, and just genuinely warm. Asked great questions about what we typically like, then crafted drinks that were spot-on. Not just following recipes, but really thinking about balance and flavor. Between the drinks and his hospitality, he set the tone for the entire evening. This is someone who takes pride in his craft and it shows. So easy to see why he was awarded the best bartender by Eater. Easily some of the best drinks in the city. Umesh was also behind the bar and they worked together like they've been doing this for years. The bar area had this great energy because of them - professional but relaxed, skilled but approachable. Chef Sujan actually came out from the kitchen in the middle of our meal and spent time talking with us. Not a quick "how's everything?" while rushing to the next table. A real conversation. We talked about his culinary philosophy, some of the dishes we were trying, and you could see how much thought goes into every element on the menu. For a chef at this level to be that accessible and engaged with diners - that's something I really respect. It completely changed how I experienced the rest of the meal because you could connect the passion behind it to what was on the plate. Speaking of which - the food. Really impressive across the board. Bold flavors that weren't trying too hard, ingredients that were clearly high quality, and execution that showed real skill. This isn't just fusion for the sake of fusion or trendy for the sake of trendy. There's intention behind every dish. The whole experience felt special but not stuffy, elevated but not pretentious. That's a hard balance to strike and Tiya nails it. Between the talent in the kitchen, the skill behind the bar, and a team that clearly cares about creating memorable experiences for guests, this place has staying power. Will absolutely be back. If you haven't tried it yet - this should be next on your list.
I celebrated my birthday at Tiya, and it was hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time! From the moment we walked in, the energy and hospitality were incredible. We chose to sit at the bar, and honestly, that made the night. Izler, the bar manager, and his colleague Saurabh were beyond amazing. They not only made us the most phenomenal drinks (truly some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had!) but also took care of every detail to make my birthday dinner so special. The food was exceptional, beautifully presented, full of flavor, and perfectly balanced. The small bites in particular stood out, each dish felt thoughtful and creative while still true to its Indian roots. Between the delicious food, the stellar drinks, and the incredible warmth from the team, Tiya is an absolute gem. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a night out with great vibes and even better cocktails, I can’t recommend it enough. Thank you, Izler and Saurabh, for making my birthday unforgettable!
Tiya in San Francisco is a truly exceptional dining experience. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance is captivating, with a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere that feels perfect for a special occasion or a memorable night out. The beautiful decor and stylish setting create a sense of quiet elegance that makes every dish feel even more special. And speaking of the food, it's a culinary masterpiece. Tiya's menu offers a modern and innovative take on Indian cuisine, using the best of California's seasonal produce to create dishes that are both creative and deeply flavorful. The presentation is stunning, with each plate a work of art that almost looks too good to eat. What's more, Tiya caters wonderfully to vegetarians. The vegetarian and vegan options are not an afterthought; they are thoughtfully crafted and just as impressive as the rest of the menu. Whether you choose from the a la carte menu or opt for the tasting menu, you'll be delighted by the rich, complex, and vibrant flavors. The service is top-notch—warm, attentive, and knowledgeable—making the entire evening an absolute pleasure. Tiya is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates excellent food, a gorgeous setting, and an unforgettable dining experience.
The reality of the meal, service & setting exceeded my expectations. From beginning to end the experience was first class, warm & welcoming. The entire staff was engaging and knowledgeable. The food was inspired by old world flavors with a push toward fusion of new exploration. Expertly preparred tender lamb to inventive desserts, we ate every bite. And the cocktails were both delicious as well as entertaining!!! I trust you will also have a delightful time should you enjoy an evening here. Thank you everyone at Tiya for a fabulous evening.
Wonderful experience! All the items were exquisite. Especially the main course in the vegetarian - chef tasting menu.. the combination of paneer with coconut based sauce, garlic naan and dal were so comforting to the palate! The service was great. The person who waited on us was kind, sweet and offered sweet surprises to our daughter! Highly recommend this place!
Tiya was long due on my list and it didn’t disappoint. Food was great, well balanced, not oily, cooked to the right temperature. The flavors in every dish stood out. We tried everything in the menu except fish curry, saag and potato curry. Overall a great place to have dinner and looking forward to come here again as the menu changes!!
What an amazing and heartwarming experience for our Anniversary!! We arrived a little late for our reservation due to traffic, but Madison, the amazing manager, welcomed us so warmly and made us comfortable right away. Her kindness truly set the tone for the night. We decided to sit at the bar and were blown away by Umesh. He was polite, friendly, and so thoughtful in helping us choose the best drinks and food. His guidance made the experience feel really special. Izler crafted our drinks to absolute perfection — balanced sweetness and a fun suggestion to taste the leaf for the full flavor experience. Such attention to detail! And then came the star of the night: the Doodh Jalebi. The perfect dessert to end our anniversary celebration. Overall, an incredible experience from start to finish!
I went here for my birthday dinner and absolutely loved the food. It looks very ordinary from the outside but has a really nice ambience. The butter chicken was very flavorful and the chicken tikka tacos were great too. The lamb shank pulao was also very melt-in-the-mouth. They even gave me a cute birthday card :-) Would definitely recommend this place!
An outstanding experience from start to finish. We tried the tasting menu and every dish was exceptional, beautifully presented with incredible attention to detail. The thoughtfulness extends beyond the food too; even the interiors, from wall frames to table lamps, are perfectly color-coordinated. It felt refined, creative, and memorable. Truly a special dining experience, I would definitely come back for à la carte.
Visited for my birthday dinner, and the cozy ambience plus truly innovative Indian dishes made it feel special. In decreasing order of favorites: ✅ Squash & Poblano Dumpling — Incredibly flavorful gravy and a creative spin on palak kofta. ✅ Potato Quiche — Loved the presentation and the playful mash-up of a Western quiche with Indian potato curry. ✅ Paneer Bhurji Roll — Amazed by how neatly the delicate wrap was filled; beautifully spiced and delicious. ✅ Marina Cocktail (lassi-based) — Silky lassi notes with a gentle boozy finish—such a lovely fusion. ✅ Birthday Ice Cream — The SF postcard, candle, and ultra-creamy scoop were a sweet, thoughtful touch. ✅ Roti, Naans & Saffron Rice — Fresh, well-made, and perfectly executed. 👍 Embarcadero Cocktail — Smooth and well made, if not particularly unique. 🆗 Tandoori Avocado — The flavors weren’t for me, though others might enjoy it. What could be better: Portion sizes—especially the small plates—felt tiny; barely a bite for two, let alone a table of four. Bottom line: A wonderful showcase of modern Indian cooking in the Bay Area—warm service, cozy vibes, and inspired dishes that make the occasion feel special.
We recently hosted our wedding reception at Tiya, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. From the very beginning, Chef Pujan Sarkar, GM Roger Gomes, Mixologist Izler Thomas, Sommelier Madison, and the entire Tiya team went above and beyond to create an evening our family and friends will never forget. Guests traveled from all over - New York, Denver, Singapore, LA, and across the Bay Area - and every single one left raving about the food, cocktails, and warm hospitality. Chef Pujan’s cooking has always been our benchmark for incredible Indian cuisine - thoughtful, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Having followed him since his Rooh days, we were thrilled to celebrate this milestone at Tiya, his new restaurant that perfectly blends Indian soul with California creativity. The attention to detail was unmatched: from the custom menu Chef Pujan prepared that catered to every palate to the inventive cocktails crafted by Izler and the impeccable service and planning from Roger and Madison. The entire night felt personal - a true “dil se” (from the heart) experience that made us and our guests feel like "ghar ke log" (part of the family). Tiya isn’t just one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco - it’s one of those rare gems where every meal feels like a celebration, elevated by the kind of welcoming ambiance only a chef-owned restaurant can create. We’ll be back soon (and often), and we can’t recommend it enough to anyone looking for world-class food, hospitality, and heart. If you're ever considering a full buyout of the restaurant for a special event and are looking for a reference, I'd be happy to serve as one. Chef Pujan and Roger know how to reach me and can connect you.
Great experience with the tasting menu. The octopus dish was amazing with a perfect blend of Indian spices to go with the tandoori octopus. The appetizers were amazing, especially their take on the pyaaz kachori and ragda patty. Great experience!

I've tasted Chef Sujan's culinary delights for a while. So I visited Chefs Sujan and Pujan's Tiya with much anticipation in July 2025. The Maitre d' greeted us with a warm welcome. We were shown to our table as as I took in the decor. The ambience at Tia is a combination of old saloons with modern touches. Classic, elegant, but not stuffy. As we pored over the menu, ordered a cocktail and got settled in, I noticed a familiar face of Roger Gomes, who manages Tiya. Roger has been in the hospitality business a long time. Also present was his cousin Isler who is nothing short of a magical mixologist. This team in addition to the chefs, kitchen crew and floor staff are doing as great a job as any great restaurants on the planet. The service, food and all the beverages that evening were above expectations. Cocktails are truly craft and each dish is prepared and presented with utmost care. The combination of authentic taste enveloped in culinary art is not easy to produce. It's a tight rope act that many fail at and if they do it comes with a lot higher price tag. I'll wrap up by saying that if you have not dined at Tiya, do at the earliest occasion. If you are not in the city, make a good half day out of it by parking in the neighborhood, taking a walk on the Marina and strolling the streets before getting into the restaurant. I'll be sure to try the tasting menu on my next visit and can't wait to make it happen.
Tiya – A Hidden Gem with Soul and Flavor Tiya is one of those rare San Francisco spots where everything just clicks — the energy, the people, the music, the drinks. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the vibe — warm, creative, and effortlessly cool. The bartenders, especially Izler and the team, are absolute stars. They don’t just make cocktails — they craft an experience. Every drink feels like a small work of art, layered with bold, unexpected flavors that stay with you long after the glass is empty. And honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them. The food lives up to the hype: inventive, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish is unique — the kind that surprises you in the best way possible. Then there’s the music. Always on point — deep house, house, melodic grooves — the kind that keeps the energy high but never overpowering. It’s the soundtrack to a night you don’t want to end. What makes Tiya truly special, though, is the people. Isaac and his crew bring the place to life with their humor, warmth, and genuine connection. You can feel the camaraderie behind the bar — they clearly love what they do, and it radiates through the entire space. In short, Tiya isn’t just a restaurant — it’s an experience. Come for the cocktails, stay for the vibe, and leave already planning your next visit.
The overall experience was fantastic and each course was plated creatively. We especially loved the canapés and the yogurt chaat, which were bursting with flavor. The Java Plum bon bon was a delightful surprise!
My wife and I visited Tiya in San Francisco to celebrate our birthday and had a wonderful experience. We opted for one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian tasting menu, which gave us a great mix of flavors. The standouts for me were the Mushroom Momo and the Lamb Keema! The drinks were also good, I especially enjoyed the Mariana cocktail, a creative twist on a mango lassi that was smooth, refreshing, and unique. The only small downside was that the drink service took a little longer than expected, but once it arrived, it was absolutely worth it. For dessert, the Mango Rasmalai was a real highlight. It was unlike any rasmalai I’ve had before with a unique mango twist that made it stand out. Overall, the ambiance, food, and service made it a memorable evening. I’d definitely return for another special occasion.
Our family had an incredible experience at Tiya. The drinks, appetizers and desserts were truly unique and stand out as highlights of the meal. However, we feel there is big opportunity to further refine the main course offerings. We ordered the vegetarian potato and paneer dishes, but found both to be a bit overwhelmed by cream and saffron, which masked the natural flavors of the ingredients. While the overall experience was a 4/5, the main courses specifically felt closer to a 2.5 to 3 over 5. We look forward to seeing how the menu evolves!
Basic indian flavours made more expensive with less punch and novelty in smaller quantities. Was really hoping for sometging mind blowing like Copra, but did not get that at all and truly nothing was memorable and i didnt have a single bite that i thought was even close to perfect, which at this level and price point i would expect. Ambiance isnt great either, kind of awkward seating
