Looks beautiful from the outiside. Unfortunately we did not have time to visit the interior. This Basilica is located just next to Cappelle Medicee so if you're doing both, do them together.

San Lorenzo sits in Florence’s market district like a paradox: one of the city’s key churches, yet still wearing an unfinished façade. Tradition points to an early Christian consecration in 393, but the building you feel is the 15th-century reset, when Brunelleschi gave it a new Renaissance grammar - white planes held in place by pietra serena, proportion doing the work of ornament. It is also Medici territory: their parish church, their long-term building site, and the hinge that links worship to dynasty. Nearby and attached, the complex keeps unfolding into add-ons that change the register completely - the Old Sacristy’s early-domed clarity, Michelangelo’s unrealised façade dream, and the Laurentian Library with its vestibule and stair, begun in the 1520s and realised later. San Lorenzo is Florence building power in public, then leaving the seams visible.

We didn’t go inside the Basilica di San Lorenzo, but the outdoor area was lovely. You can sit on the stairs and enjoy the atmosphere while different street singers and musicians perform for tourists. It’s a lively and relaxing spot to take a short break and soak up the Florence vibe!

📍 Basilica di San Lorenzo – Florence, Italy 🇮🇹 We didn’t go inside, but the square outside is lively and full of atmosphere 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️. People stroll through, browse the market stalls 🛍️, and enjoy cafés ☕ around the basilica. The unfinished façade looks plain compared to other Florentine churches, but it’s still an interesting landmark to see while walking the area. A vibrant spot for soaking in local life, even without entering. 🙌

For three hundred years it was the city's cathedral, before the official seat of the bishop was transferred to Santa Reparata. San Lorenzo was the parish church of the Medici family. In 1419, Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici offered to finance a new church to replace an eleventh-century Romanesque rebuilding. Filippo Brunelleschi, the leading Renaissance architect of the first half of the fifteenth century, was commissioned to design it, but the building, with alterations, was not completed until after his death. The church is part of a larger monastic complex that contains other important architectural and artistic works: the Old Sacristy (Sagresta Vecchia) by Brunelleschi and having interior decoration and sculpture by Donatello; the Laurentian Library by Michelangelo; the Medici Chapels, two structures that include the New Sacristy (Sagrestia Nuova) based on Michelangelo's designs; and the larger Cappella dei Principi ("Chapel of the Princes") being a collaboration between the family and architects.

A fantastic basilica. This church has a wealth of the typical Florentine history. Many Medicis tombs are here, some quite magnificently. The old sacristy is designed and part sculpted by Michaelangelo. Other parts are designed by Donatello. Art by Donatello, Vasari and many others hangs on the walls. The highlights for me were the painted ceiling of the zodiac in the old sacristy and the ceiling in the centre of the Basilica. The place is much quieter than the more popular tourist attractions, you actually get a nice atmosphere here. The price is also reasonable. Highly recommended.

Much better than the main cathedral. Similar, bit smaller, but completely without people, even on the busiest days. Nice art from Donatello and others, lot of literal treasures in the basement, and also the tomb of Donatello himself, along with his benefactor, Cosimo Medici. And the feeling that this building actually held all the Medici events back then, that's priceless.

This is one of my favourite churches to visit the Sam Lorenzo complex is absolutely stunning. The church, cloisters, museums are absolutely amazing so is the chapel. The architecture is amazing and the tombs are wonderful to see. There’s lots to do and see here, I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I would definitely recommend visiting the San Lorenzo complex.

Abbiamo preso due antipasti di pesce Cappon magro particolare e un misto mare. Poi abbiamo diviso le mezzelune ripiene di baccalà alla borragine. E poi due secondi : acciughe impanate (ottime) e grigliata di calamari Infine 2 dolci: mouse al cioccolato su pasta fillo ( sbalorditiva) e un buon cannolo Valutazione complessiva ottima Ristorante consigliato da provare anche per la gentilezza del personale rarissima in Liguria.

Ottimo ristorante /osteria con una location molto accogliente , il titolare /cuoco simpatico e disponibile , sua figlia che serve ai tavoli è stata molto carina e gentile , comunque gestito in modo eccellente da tutta la famiglia , il cibo molto buono e particolare , L unica , ma questa è una mia opinione il pesce affumicato , lo avrei preferito carpacciato fresco , avrei aumentato Magari di qualche euro , affumicato è un po’ più comodo ma secondo me perde di valore il piatto . Ci ritornerò sicuramente , consigliato

Rapporto qualità prezzo in linea con la zona. Il locale si presenta intimo e accogliente con un servizio caldo e attento. Ci sono state servite assieme al pane delle focaccine e come benvenuto salame accompagnato da Sgabei fritti al momento. Pesce assolutamente fresco e ben preparato, ottima la zuppa di pesce dello chef!

A cathedral with an unfinished facade, which is well worth a visit, if you have the time in Florence. The €9 ticket gives you access to the cathedral, the museum and the cloisters (only from the outside). The cathedral is built majestically and was patronised by the Medici family, just like a lot of things at Florence.

Questa recensione si basa sulla mia esperienza personale. Piccolo locale caratteristico in una zona tranquilla, dotato di un piccolo parcheggio. Chef e personale di Sala gentili e cordiali. Gradito il piccolo entrè di fugassin e salame. Mi è piaciuto molto il polpo su friarielli, peccato per la piccola porzione. Acciughe fritte buone. Antipasto di mare così così. Antipasto terra buono, ma misero. Mezzelune di baccalà discrete. Ho trovato comunque tutte le porzioni molto ridotte e prezzi abbastanza elevati, soprattutto perché si è in un posto sperduto mentre i prezzi sono da fronte mare e più. Non credo di tornarci, siamo usciti non sazi. Certo avremmo potuto ordinare altri piatti, ma il budget non ce l'ha concesso.

Pretty disappointing I thought. For 9 euros I was expecting something pretty spectacular but it is nothing exceptional. I thought the courtyard was the best part. The basement isn't a crypt but a museum of altar pieces and robes. There is a toilet in the bookstore (off the courtyard) that costs 1 euro but it only takes 1 and 2 euro coins. Just duck under the turnstile to get in. Trivia - The front of the building looks odd since it is the back wall to a marble facade that was never added.
