We are so glad that the Backwards Inn is open again. This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is delicious and it has a very charming atmosphere. Added bonus for us, Val our favorite bartender is now working behind the bar at the Backwards. We have visited for dinner and drinks 3 times in the last 2 weeks! When we have guests from out of town, we always take them there and they fall in love with the place too!
Always a great meal with a cool atmosphere.
Love the Backwoods Inn...omg the twice baked potatoes! Yuuuummmmm. The staff is so friendly, the treat you like a friend. The atmosphere is amazing, sit on down and stay a while
Our favorite steakhouse! The food is great and of course I have to mention their famous twice baked potato (we’ve been known to order extra). The staff is excellent to say the least. We’ve always had the best servers here at every single visit over many years. There’s never been even an ‘average’ experience of service. I can’t say that for any other restaurant in this price range. The ambiance is wonderful. The old-fashioned decoration and extra nice seating are so enjoyable. We’ve tried other steakhouses, but nothing beats the all around experience of flavor, service, comfort, ambience and price than Backwoods Inn.
The food was amazing. You have to try the onion rings. Staff are so friendly and accommodating. I will visit next time I'm travelling through the area. I would highly recommend a visit. You won't be disappointed...
We had a party of 11 and they were very accommodating. The service was great for a busy Friday night. And the food was good too!
This place was old school and great tasting. Very friendly staff with attractive focus. Prime rib was to brag about and the soup just perfect. The staff made it worth coming back.
Love this place, old school vibe and service is excellent always. However, it’s a little pricey but worth it. Steaks are always perfect and the seafood is just okay. Drinks are nice and strong if you need a quick buzz.
Perfect! EXCEPT,,, the 2 loud families behind us. Please don't talk over 2 or 3 other tables! I even turned around & gave them a stern look & it didn't phase them. Overall, it is a great place to eat & the food is wonderful & service is lovely.
I rarely post reviews but this restaurant deserves 5 stars. The atmosphere was so relaxing and me and my fiancé both loved the retro decor. Service and food was also very good and that can be hard to find at some restaurants these days. We would definitely come back again
Been coming here for 25 years. Always been a great place for Prime Rib and Steak. Back in the day they had a great Prime Rib Sandwich on a open faced bread really cheap. But it is still really good. Also try the clam chowder. Back in the day you would have to wait at least an hour with the line going all away around the building but it was worth it. Best in SCV.
Very rustic dining experience. The Ribeye was delicious! The service went above and beyond. An all around great place to eat
This place had great atmosphere. A bit "old world" and dim but made for a great dinning experience. Food was good quality and delicious. I'll definitely be a return customer.
Love the vibes of this place! great food
First time dining here. We were looking for a steakhouse in the Santa Clarita after picking up our teenagers at Magic Mountain. We tried Valencia Town Center but there was a long wait. Ended up at Backwoods and we were not disappointed. The portions are huge with reasonable prices. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.
My family had a get together to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Bree was our waitress with help from Jess. Bree was extremely friendly with a charismatic personality, she also knew what she was doing and how to take all of our orders without making any mistakes when we received our food. The atmosphere is always great, and the bartender is top notch, the drinks were on point and flowing. Then the food came and it was spectacular. I had the seafood combination platter, I tried a piece of the prime rib and it was perfect!
Drink was ordered, never got it. The waitress hardly came around. I ordered 1/2 roasted chicken, got a breast which was under cooked. Everyone was done with dinner before I could send it back. The bus boy was great but get your hair off your face. Not appropriate for this restaurant. I came from Vegas to have fried chicken and told you don't have it, after my order was placed another waitress brought 2 orders out for another table. One person ordered BBQ beef ribs, very over cooked. Next time I'm in town would think twice about coming back. My family lives in Valencia. Waitress was young and needs more training.
My only complaint would be that the soda that I was given three different times was flat the steak is amazing the lobster is melt in your mouth the twice baked potato is the best I've ever had I'm going to the backwoods in for years and it's always the same love this place
Met with friends for dinner. Everything was fabulous! We enjoyed appetizers of chicken wings and coconut shrimp. Two of us had the half rack of of baby back ribs and twice baked potatoes. One of us enjoyed a sirloin steak, also with a twice baked potato. Also had salads and soup. And the creme brulee was excellent! So engaged in conversation, we forgot to take photos. Promise we will take some on our next visit. Service was excellent and made for an enjoyable evening for all. If one has a special occasion, this is the place to be. Or, like us, just getting together with friends for a leisurely meal to chat and catch up.
A rather historical restaurant and a favorite go to for a meal with friends.
Bar tenders were fantastic, steak and lobster were amazing.
An old reliable. Been there for years with very good food and service. Not cheap, but not as expensive as the more trendy places. The broiled/fried chicken is excellent. The sawdust on the floor detracts a little from the otherwise upscale atmosphere. But I guess that's what earns it the name "Backwoods" !
It has been a few years since we last visited and our dinner did not disappoint. We started with some sourdough garlic bread that was awesome then came the clam chowder like no other. For my my entre I picked the top sirloin cooked medium perfectly with the famous stuffed baked potato. Didn't get our waitress name but the best services ever. Can't wait to come back and get the Crab leg special.
One of the greatest steak houses in southern California with an age approximate bar where kids are not running around screaming and people can enjoy their whiskey or drinks. Price is mid range to high but well worth the purchase and the cheese bread is amazing
Food and service always great! Prime rib and stuffed baked potatoes are the best.
Backwoods Inn still has the best Prime Rib, thick cut and juicy! We had a party of 6 and were seated quickly. Everyone from the Hostess to the wait staff are amazing. Never felt rushed and never had an empty glass. The bartender made amazing drinks. It has been a few years since we last had dinner at the Backwoods Inn but we definitely think it's even better than before.
Had a amazing Dinner with my wife here for the first time and we were both completely satisfied with everything. The service was beyond great, our waitress and wait-staff was amazing. Our Food was perfect, salad was fresh and steaks were cooked to our liking. There was really no room to complain. Definitely one of our new favorite places to dine out and enjoy a great meal.
Great old school place. Friendly people. Good food.
Backwoods inn is a great place to take the family, dimly lit with warm light, it feels like a step back into the past, from the sawdust on the floor to the 1950’s farm decor, the vibe here is as pleasing as the food is. The cuts of meat are nice and lean, prepared with a charcoal flame which adds a pleasant rich smoky flavor, the stuffed baked potato is a must as well. While they do lack a little creativity on the appetizer & desert menu’s they make up for that everywhere else. Price wise they have some pretty typical steakhouse prices, nothing you wouldn’t expect when going out for this type of meal. Service is always great and the wait (sometimes a bit long) is well worth it.
This is one of the most unique restaurants i have ever been in. It’s like stepping back in time and getting away with the stresses we have today. But the best part is the food and service. Great! I had Prime Rib, better than Lowry’s. I had the large cut with a great salad and a twice baked potato to die for. While I was there I was surprised by the Halloween Decorations that were through the place. First time I have had dinner in a haunted house, and loved it. :)
Delicious place, those that "know know" is what i say about this spot!! Best steak in town!!
Second oldest restaurant in SCV. If you live in SCV it is tradition to go. Clean Great food. The western furnishings and photos are the same as the first time I went when I was 10 in 1971. Then you could take your horse and tie up out front.
Surf & turf is delicious and the twice baked potatoes never disappoint. I always make sure to get a bowl of clam chowder- best around. The garlic bread is sooooo good that we always get 2 orders. My son chose the sirloin which was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. We always sit in Rita's section because she is just AWESOME. This is one of my FAV spots in Santa Clarita..... Trust me you'll love it 👍🏻......oh yeah the bar is fantastic and have some great wines as well.
Outstanding food, big portions at great price.. delicious beef ribs and rice baked potatoes.. great service, wonderful place.. all decorated for Halloween 🎃 😋
I was staying across the street and thought I’d try it. Absolutely the best meal I’ve had in a long time. I got the beef ribs with twice baked potato and fried clams appetizer. The ribs were meaty and tender. The service was impeccable and old school ambiance.
The steak was incredible, the best I’ve had in a long time! I had the bone-in ribeye, and it was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The service was flawless—our server had excellent recommendations for both the steak and wine pairings. The ambiance was classy, with a relaxing atmosphere that made it easy to unwind and enjoy the meal.
My fiancé and I dined here yesterday for steak and chicken it was an absolute delight. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine charm. I love that it’s a family-run restaurant that has carried on through generations…you truly feel like part of the family the moment you walk in. The food was outstanding, and the twice-baked potato and the broasted chicken was my personal favorite. The service was impeccable…attentive, kind, and the perfect balance of professional and friendly. It’s rare these days to find a restaurant that still holds onto timeless values of hospitality and quality, but this place does it effortlessly. A true gem! Looking forward to Halloween-time here!
Old school steakhouse. Plenty of parking. You really need a reservation, as this gets extremely busy. Be prepared for a bit of a wait. But once your seated, fantastic
I love history. Atmosphere. Vibe. Backwoods has all three covered in spades. You feel the place has been here for decades because yeah, it has but it is also very clean, very well maintained and in great shape, from tables to booths to the bar and everything in between. We just went for a drink and dessert. The creme brulee was delicious and drinks well made and potent, my favorite combination. Bartender was super friendly. All in all a great place to eat, drink and be merry. We will be back for the full dinner experience.
Yesterday 10.27.25, My Husband & I went for the 1st time to Celebrate our 35th Anniversary, Our Hostess & Waitress we the Best, Now my Husband Ordered Rib Eye, was Juicy & Tender, cooked Perfectly & Twice Baked Potato, Yummy & I ordered the Ribs were so Good.. w/Baked Potato, Garlic Bread & 2-Dinner Salads...our Dinners couldn't have been any better... We'll Be Back for Sure!! God Bless
I've only lived in Canyon Country for 4yrs and have been here twice but I love it. I love how the location is a little hidden. The place is a nice size, not too big, a very homey feel. The food is great! Just love the atmosphere. I think I'm going to start coming in more often. Porter House and Famous Potato are a great choice.
Rolled in just before closing. Sat in the bar. They let us order some fries even though the kitchen was closed. Drinks were good. Overall great experience.
Date of Visit: 4/13/2025 Dine-in: hamburger steak, stuffed potato, garlic-bread all outstanding. Backwoods Inn is a must place to dine at. Nostalgia at its finest. This is a place you eat out to remember how great that era was when it was first built. Let’s dive in the back history. Established in 1966 by Jerry Woods purchased by Bob and Rose Ohler in 1968, and their family has continued to own and operate it. Famous for their stuff potato and used for filming/tv shows.
We visited Backwoods Inn for the first time since we were in town for a wedding. This place has delicious food! We had mushrooms appetizers, got a rib eye, the broaster chicken, my son got a grilled cheese. The drinks are good and the bar is very nice. The ambiance is dope! The displays are beautiful, pictures on the wall are great. Very original restaurant with wood chips on the floor. The service is top notch! Staff is super nice, friendly, always with a smile. Our server Joann is on it just like James!! Wonderful people and always making sure you’re taken care of! We wanted to stay longer but we had to attend the rest of the wedding event nearby. This is a place you must visit and enjoy! Thank you for a great experience Backwoods Inn :)
Came here with my husband for the first time. It was a delicious experience. I had the sirloin and he had a filet mignon. I really enjoyed the twice baked potato, we definitely will be coming back
The Backwoods Inn has been a family staple since before I was even born. I’ve been eating at The Backwoods Inn since I was capable of ingesting solid foods, and it has remained my favorite restaurant since my first bite. The ambience is unmatched, the food is delicious, and the twice baked potatoes will send you straight to flavortown… but a nice, calm flavortown, devoid of Guy Fieri, thank the Lord. I don’t know about it you, but I find him a tad overwhelming. Anyway, the Backwoods Inn is phenomenal, and anyone who says otherwise, I will gladly challenge to a cage match.
Very cozy atmosphere. Wife comes for the clam chowder and I for their hearty steaks. The bartender Dave brings charm and is entertaining just watching him work as he makes the guests feel welcomed. If you haven't been, come in and try it. If you have been, then you know what I'm talking about.
Perfect prime rib. I ordered the 12 Oz m.r. it came out 14 or 16 Oz. Wow! A perfect cocktail, dinner salad and even some clam chowder, my wife's. She realy liked the twice baked potatoe, just like her mom's potato supreme. I would have just preferred a baked not twice baked.my wife ordered coconut shrimp amd the filet 8 oz. Again looked bigger than that to me. The menu is simpel but balanced .The service spot on, super friendly people. Joane helped us, she was great. The atmosphere is 80s family steak house. Big over stuffed booths. Lots of reads and dark brown. I wish I hade this restaurant in my town.
Always a very straightforward menu with decent meat and seafood selections. The food tasted very good and never pass up getting the twice-baked potato and clam chowder! Great service.
The meats were bit bland but okay. Although the rest of my party enjoyed their meat, so it could just be my taste buds. The garlic bread was great and so was the salad. The service was excellent but the manager needs a vacation or something. She went off on a staff member, and elderly lady and myself about seating people, covid restrictions, her hands being tied...etc. no one asked her to do anything beyond what was allowed. She went on a 5 min rant with us while my family was watching. I love the decor and the welcoming homey feel of the place. The fact that management reaches out and cares about the reviews says allot! Thank you.
This place hasn't changed in years since our last visit. Still good food and good service, the service was great, and the pork ribs were tasty! Good deals on wine also! Next time in Santa Clarita, we will definitely be back yet again!
Food was ok , wasn't hot just warm , ribs they were ok
Walking into Backwoods Inn felt like stepping into a time machine. It's like Ron Burgundy and OG Sizzler teamed up to create the perfect love child of retro awesomeness. The ambience is 🤌🏻 for anyone who enjoys a side of nostalgia with their steak. Speaking of steak, it was the star of the show – juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Just skip the fried clam strips. They were... let's just say an experience I won't be repeating. Overall, if you’re looking for a spot with great steak and a throwback atmosphere that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Backwoods Inn delivers!
We had a lovely time during our first visit to the Backwoods Inn. There's no secret here... this place is all about the ambiance. It is fantastic! It is difficult to even begin to describe it's eclectic feel. Elements of victorian, colonial and the country old west all are blended together to create something special that somehow absolutely works! There is so much to look at including a full-on museum in the bar! Unfortunately, the food and value don't match the same level of enthusiasm. The food wasn't bad, but it was so-so. Well... the dessert (I ordered a slice chocolate cheesecake) was pretty bad. But everything else was okay. But it is pretty high priced. For the prices, I would expect much better. In particular I was surprised by my son's $13 shrimp kids meal... that included (wait for it) TWO pieces of shrimp. Really? The ribs were alright. The potatoes were really good. The clam chowder was decent. I'd say the food and value are either a 2.5 or 3, but the ambience is such a 5 that it lifts my score to a 4 just because you simply MUST visit. Maybe try to go for lunch when things are (I would guess) a bit cheaper. It was very relaxing and my family had a lovely time.
Great steakhouse! I will definitely come back and try their BBQ ribs. The customer service was very warm and welcoming by all the staff! I think this is the first place I would rate the customer service higher than the food. I mean the food was good but the service was even better! 😅🫶🏼
Everything was good except… why the peanuts on the floor. I know it’s supposed to be for “authenticity” but go into any real cowboy bar, I mean a real one down in the rancheros. The caballeros aren’t showing up to the bar with their boots covered in horse shit. Everything else was good, good steak, good service. Just… cmon. The gimmick is why we won’t be back.
The Backwoods Inn is a rustic steakhouse with the wonderful smell of mesquite in the air. One of the best things about the food is the flavor of the steaks come through without reliance on lots of salt or multiple additional seasonings. Maybe for some folks this is a negative, but not in our case. There is salt, pepper and steak sauces available to add to your food as you desire. Also, on the menu is a variety of seafood such as Halibut, shrimp, king crab legs, lobster and others. If you prefer, chicken, ribs, pork chops and/or pasta. Lots of choices for members of your party. We ordered the filet mignon, the sirloin, the stuffed baked potato, (it was huge) veggies, salads and garlic bread. All the food was delicious. In addition, Backwoods makes several of their own salad dressings, such as the ranch, blue cheese, and thousand islands. The service was on point and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Yet another great small business right here in Santa Clarita that is definitely worth your patronage.
Backwoods Inn has been around since 1968, and somehow my wife and I had never made it in. We’ve lived in Santa Clarita for about 20 years and always heard about it, so we finally went to celebrate our dating anniversary (yes, we still do that even though we’re married). If you want an old school steakhouse vibe, this is it. Red leather booths, stained-glass style lamps, cozy lighting, vintage decor, and those classic “newspaper” tablecloths. It feels like a time capsule in the best way. Service was genuinely great, friendly, attentive, and paced perfectly for a celebratory dinner. Food quality was solid across the board. With each meal you get the classic steakhouse setup: soup or salad plus a twice-baked potato, and everything came out hot and exactly how we asked. They also have a handful of house wines that are surprisingly inexpensive and totally drinkable. You can obviously go pricier if you want, but it was nice having a simple, budget-friendly option that still worked with a steak dinner. Is it the best steak you’ll ever have? No. But that’s not the point here. It’s a dependable, classic steakhouse with a fun throwback atmosphere, great service, and a meal that feels like a complete dinner. All in all, I’m honestly not sure why I waited so long to try it. We’ll be back.
When you spend $39.00 on a ribeye, you expect that it will at least have salt . The first bite of a seasonless piece of meat was very disappointing. It was my birthday and I wasn’t paying and didn’t want to embarrass or upset the group so I kept my mouth shut and asked someone to pass the salt . The vegetables were overcooked.
I have not been there for 24 years. My wife went Saturday night 10/5. The appetizers and salads were good but both our meal came out almost cold. My wife sent hers back, I just eat it. The mash potatoes were watery and had a very strong spice so not eatable and the ribs didn't have a lot of meat and tough. I was really looking forward to trying Backwoods again but was not a good experience for me. The place was busy so I'm figuring we were alone in our experience. The best part was the excellent service so I'm giving them one star for each person and none for the chefs.
Quaint environment. It felt nostalgic and a bit romantic. Very good service. The food was okay. All meat is char grilled and the flavors of charbroilled meat were a little heavy for me. I'd would visit again for coffee and dessert which were really delicious.
We stopped here one evening after work on our way home… We thought it looked quaint, warm, and welcoming—and it’s just outside our neighborhood. The greeters and wait staff were pleasant and prompt with our orders. To that end, the mixed drinks and food leave a bit to be desired. My Old Fashioned was full of ice and lacked bitters and my date’s Lemon Drop lacked any flavor at all. For dinner, I had prime rib, and my fiancé had “Maine” lobster. We both had salads (w/ really good house-made dressing) and baked potatoes. The prime rib was OK, nothing to write home about. My loaded baked potato tasted like it had been pre-made earlier in the day, which is not the end of the world. It just didn’t taste fresh. The lobster was awfully fishy—I’ve NEVER tasted a cold-water tail that pungent. Makes me question the veracity of the title. Seemed more like a warm-water variant from Costco. Her baked potato was tiny, kind of like the one you’d get in a 10lb bag from Albertsons—and it also tasted like it was premade and staged. Needless to say—this isn’t going to be a place we frequent, but they always have a pretty full parking lot, so I think they’ll be alright without my patronage.
Ambiance great, steak and stuffed baked potato very good, except no veggies? I pay almost $40 for a steak and no veggies? Potato skins appetizer completely tasteless. Cheese bread not that much better. Service lousy, waitress short, dismissive and unavailable, if not for helper busgirl who was wonderful, we would have walked out! We were on a tight schedule and waitress refused to take order until AFTER appetizer was served. When meal arrived, my plate was plopped down in front of me, she said "enjoy" and walked off. Not, can I get you anything else, steak sauce, etc and we relied totally on busgirl for everything!
Very good, love the prime rib and twice baked potato. The kids chicken tenders were very dry and my daughter didn't want to eat them. Tasted as if they were from a pre-made frozen bag. Service was great.
I used to come here for years, but moved away. The food was about the same, but their service leaves something to be desired. They brought me the bill and I handed them my card thinking nothing about it. Then upon review I discovered they charged me for a drink I never ordered. When I point it out they handed me back only the cash without the tax for the drink. Maybe you think that's not a big deal, but why not do it right and correct the transaction since it had not yet been posted. What's funny is that I only ordered two drinks and accidentally spilled the second one. A classy place would have replaced the drink. Instead I paid for 3 drinks and only had one. My memories of this place are tarnished.
Last night's visit was not the best one I've experienced. My husband's filet was dry, and baked potato cold. The bartenders were polite, but a little overwhelmed. The place was packed; more people than I've seen there in a long time. They've changed the menu, and of course, some of the prices too. Usually, Backwoods is a solid performance for steak, stuffed baked potatoes, great garlic bread and delicious blue cheese dressing on a fresh salad, but they weren't up to par last night.
Hadn't been in over 20 years... Had a large group of 20, with 2 servers. The place was not busy at 6:30 pm on a Saturday evening. Most of the orders came out wrong, several of our guests didn't get their meals, and then our checks were all messed up. I thought we were helping by ordering with Separate Checks, but nothing seemed to help this inexperienced staff. Food was OK; steaks and prime rib were nothing spectacular or great. Ambiance of sawdust wood chips all over the floor of a "nice steakhouse" is just not a good look in 2022... my opinion.
I really want to love this place, but after four tries, I just don't. The service is the best. The atmosphere is great, like stepping back in time in a good way. Have had filet mignon, ribeye and halibut there. Fish was a small dry brick. The cuts of meat don't seem very high quality, even when cooked medium rare to order dry tasting. Not impressed with the stuffed potato. Baked potato is good. Feels stingy that they can't throw some broccoli on the plate. Even the famous clam chowder doesn't seem flavorful to me. I wish them well, but I probably won't go back.
I've heard about this restaurant for many years and finally decided to stop by for a dinner date with my wife. The atmosphere inside is very nice with dim tiffanys style lighting throughout and old-school leather booths from the 60s. We ordered 2 sirloin steak dinners, which are known to be the house specials. My wife ordered hers medium, and i ordered mine medium/well. Both steaks brought out to us appeared rear/blue and had no seasoning whatsoever. Considering that this dinner ran just over $100 with tip, there was zero garnish on the plates and the $8 appetizer side of mushrooms we had also ordered turned out to be a tiny serving of what looked like canned mushrooms warmed up in a microwave. Food aside, the waiting staff was very friendly, and the service was quick. Overall, I hope that our experience is a fluke and isn't a reflection of this restaurant given many prior high reviews. Would we come again? Maybe......only time will tell.
Service was great per usual but the food this time wasn't as before. Ordered the chicken dinner. It was a Lil too over-fried so to say and tasted very dry. The garlic toast was hard and also over done .
Above Average food and Service but very inconvenient when ordering when you just want to pick up. They close at 9 but stop there pick up service at 7:30 . I tried to order at 8pm and said it was to late. It takes 8 to 16 minutes to make a steak, how can you not have time for your clients and profit for the business. Been there 20 times, Never Again! Their priority should be Customer Satisfaction not having the kitchen clean so they can go home at 9 when they close. The Italian restaurant down the street will take their business from now on.
We dined here last Saturday, unfortunately we did not enjoy it. It was our first time there we were so looking forward to it. The steaks had no flavor and our food was served like warm, the only positive side were the cocktails. When I mentioned this to our server , she didn't seem to care , or try and rectify my complaints. We were very disappointed with our experience there . I doubt we'll return , at those prices you expect better quality 😫😢😢
The staff is super friendly. The food was very underwhelming. The sake as good as it looked didnt have eny taste even after finding out you have tell them to season the stake because they dont season unless asked. The portions where small for the cost. We whent out of the way to go there and was a little disappointed. But the place is nice if you go to drink and listen to music.
My second visit to this location. Service staff is great and friendly. 5 stars. Atmosphere is old fashioned dinner. They quite old pictures which I love. History is amazing. The food is not so great. This place is known for their steak but the steak seem to be of low quality. Ordered a rare medium. They are supposed to be tender and juicy but unfortunately, mine had no taste and very dry for a top sirloin. Price was on the low side. Maybe is the reason for its dryness. No thank you
Been going to Backwoods for 30 years, just had the worst dinner. 2 of us sent our steaks back twice, both over cooked and cold . Service was acceptable but the group behind us was very loud and foul mouthed, no one did anything about it after we mentioned the situation to the hostess.
Boy did they go down hill. The staff was.nice, They used to have the best crab salad anywhere. It's been 5 years & I still remember how good it was. I'm from the East Coast & don't get out there that often. I had to try their shrimp salad...what a disappointment. Had 5 shrimp, at least they fully shelled them thru the tail...it"s pretty poor class when You have to get your fingers dirty to shell the tail..the only good thing about they need to bring back the crab salad. They are a bit pricey too. Hope they can get back to what they were.
The place looked really nice, and had this at home fun feel to it. I loved the pictures on the wall and the old decor. The waitress we had was also wonderful, and would always check if everything was good. But I must say the food was lacking. The pasta primavera had zero flavor. It tasted like it was all boiled together and thrown on a plate. The bbq beef ribs were mediocre, and the steaks while tender and cooked to a nice med rare were lacking on flavor. We had the prime rib and filet mignon, they felt like there was zero seasoning and just tasted like a waste of steak. Overall the service was great, the atmosphere was amazing but the food was lacking in flavor for the price. I want to say though that the waitress took out the pasta primavera from the bill.
I grew up in Santa Clarita and had come to enjoy The Backwoods Inn over many years. Unfortunately, probably never again. My girlfriend took me her for Valentine's dinner last week and the food was good, but when we were packing up our leftovers we realized one of our appetizers that we wanted to take home with us had been taken away by the server. When we asked her about it she was very dismissive, didn't offer to replace it or anything and we still tipped her well, but thought it was a little strange. A few days later my girlfriend checked her bank and found that she had apparently been charged $150.00 twice. As much as that issue has appeared to be resolved, when my girlfriend ( and later myself) originally tried to speak to the owner (Carol) about it, she didn't seem to want to hear either of us out and we both felt like we received the same "oh well" attitude from the owner as we did from the server. The food is good and other experiences were definitely better, but if a problem does arise, too bad. There are a lot of great restaurants in the Santa Clarita Valley and The Backwoods Inn seems not to be what it used to be. You may want to try a different restaurant.
First time here. Atmosphere is top notch. Food we sadly couldn't have as they do not allow people to eat at the bar. We watched one group after another leave. We soon followed. They need to read up on food runners. Not everyone enjoys each others company. We won't be back =(
I love fried shrimp and I asked the waitress and she likes them too. They got a new vendor CISCO. The shrimp was flat and too crispy more like a potato chip. She asked if I wanted something else. She apologized for my order. Since they were $31 should have ordered something else. My husband ordered the pork chops and they were dry. We won't be back.
It's not worth the price. It is not that good. Loud, boring environment. The place stinks. I got the worst Paloma drink I've ever had, a glass full of ice and tastless. Waited 15 minutes to find out they are out of prime rib... really? Why the server did not have a clue when we ordered it? The stuffed potato"... plain "baked potato with something on top, and not a good one. We ordered sautéed mushrooms, what they call that it is just plain flavorless sliced mushrooms cooked. At least the steak tasted good, just not made the way we ordered it. I do not recommend this restaurant. It may have been a good restaurant in the past but is is nothing more that average now. Not good.
The service waiter messed up most of the orders, especially the drinks. The steaks were asked for medium well and came bloody. A porterhouse was dry and flavorless. The soup was very good. The garlic bread was just toast no flavor, no butter, no garlic .
It's been a long time since we dined here. And now I remember why. The place needs to close, period. My wife and her friend ordered two different kinds of steak. My wife's wasn't cooked the way she asked. Her friend said that hers was overcooked. I had the shrimp cocktail, and honestly, you can get the same thing in any bar in town. The only highlight of the evening was our waitress. Backwoods, overpriced and under promised. Never again !!!
This place has been going downhill in my opinion for years now. I haven't been happy with it in a long time. We had a gift card that we had been saving up for a special occasion and when that time came we went to use the gift card at the restaurant and they told us that our gift card didn't work and we were left to pay out of pocket. It was extremely frustrating. We also placed a to-go order and we're told that we needed to order soon because the restaurant would not be taking orders anymore. It was 5:00 p.m. And the restaurant didn't close until 9:00. On top of that, they are afraid of seasoning at this restaurant. You literally have to ask for your steak to be seasoned, but the fries, onion rings and other dishes were generally lacking seasoning as well. The twice baked potato was good. Seems like a good cut of meat but other than that I would not go back for this food. It's way too expensive for what it is.
The Backwoods inn posted up on Facebook so I gave an opinion that I felt the food and service has went downhill and me and my family were treated very rudely. Not to mention the steaks we ordered were way overcooked and even burnt on the ends.we also noticed that the salads were not as crisp or as fresh as they once were. I have been a customer for 50+ years and I was treated horribly for my opinion which I do have a right to voice. I was taunted in several private messages as well as on the page. Their conduct was unprofessional and extremely childish and bad for business. I do not recommend spending your time or money on a place that doesn't seem to care what their customers think and that has went downhill. If I could give them lower that 1 star ⭐ I would.. .there are many steakhouses with better food and service that value their customers.... Don't waste your time or money on an establishment that is rude and a cut below...The owners should get better management in order to get the place to where it once was...
WORST VALENTINE'S DAY DINNER I Came in here with my husband for Valentine's Day and I ordered the Filet mignon and he ordered the Prime rib. My filet was served to me with blood coming out of the steak and is was all over the plate. I had to send it back 3 times. My husband's prime rib was over done and cold. By the time I received the 3rd attempt, I forced myself to eat a little, just because I was starving at this point. There was an apology by the manager, but needless to say our dinner was required. I will not be returning.
We ordered the18 oz rib eye special to share medium. It was beyond well done and no way 18 oz. I asked if it was the correct steak. They insisted it was. The salad was swimming in dressing and the baked potato was over cooked as well. We left very disappointed.
Went for Halibut tonight for mothers day and was told they don't have any... It's on the online menu and not on the menu when I got there. Loved the HALIBUT. Please remove on line if you are not serving anymore
I went for the very first time with my family, and.unfortunately we had a terrible experience. The food was not good. The Pre-teen meal was a joke she had two small shrimps and very little fries. The worst part of this was that I ordered a salad and the waitress was very rude. She brought out a salad drenched with ranch dressing I couldn’t eat it , so I asked her to please bring me another salad with dressing on the side because I couldn’t eat it. She then takes back the salad and.brings me another one with dressing on the side. My husband ordered a tasteless baked potato. When we received the bill we noticed that the waitress had charged us for two salads. This place is Not worth it. The price is too expensive, the food is tasteless, and the costumer service was bad. If you are visiting from another town I’d highly suggest you go somewhere else.
I never leave reviews but felt compelled to leave this awful review after going to Backwoods last week. My family has been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years. My parents even got engaged here 45 years ago so this restaurant is very special to us! I have been hyping up this restaurant to my wife for years and finally took her there to celebrate our 15 year anniversary and get some steaks as I hadn't been myself in quite a few years. We ordered the New York and Filet Mignon and as we both took our first bites, looked at each other and immediately knew these were the worst steaks we have ever had in our lives. Both pieces of meat were dry with no seasoning and no taste at all. Our waitress was a sweetheart and I nicely mentioned that the garlic bread was fine, the twice baked potatoes were amazing as always but that the steaks were absolutely terrible and had no taste at all. She was very apologetic and nice about it and mentioned the owner decided after the pandemic that she wanted to leave off seasonings because she was worried about peoples allergies... As someone with Celiac Disease, I can say I have never heard that horrible and pathetic excuse from an owner to save money on costs by blaming food allergies... on a piece of meat... We aren't talking pasta or bread or even potatoes that could possibly not be gluten free but meat?! She mentioned there was salt and pepper on the table for people to add taste. I couldn't believe she actually said that! I am paying all this money for steaks and then I have to prepare it myself?! She was really nice and a great waitress but I just couldn't believe the excuses I was hearing. We had to ask for A1 sauce just so we could some sort of taste to eat the rest of it. I heard the table next to me ask for Cesar dressing and the waitress said the owner cut down the dressing choices also but still named off 6 other dressings. Its a steak house and you don't have Caesar dressing?... come on! I pulled up reviews online and saw several other people complaining about the horrible steaks as well. I was so disappointed to take my wife here after years of great memories with my family and the steaks end up being terrible! We will not be back until the owner cares more about customer satisfaction over her profits...
