Really great place! Nice ambiance, food is quite tasty. Reminds me of a mom and pop spot that’s been a part of Santa Monica culture for 50+ years.
Fantastic and fresh! The gyros are always excellent, you get a good amount of meat and the meat is so flavorful. Great value!
Neat little place, not too crowded and you can find parking pretty easily. Went during a weekday, the pita were good and flavorful! Just wish the prices would go down but you expect this in this part of the city.
How many places in LA look and taste the same almost 40yrs later?! This is one! I ate falafels here as a SMC student right after high school...first time back since and it's still as good as I remember! No frills, all flavor and value.
Every time I eat here the food is delicious and carefully plated! The two people who run the restaurant are super friendly and always ask if we enjoyed our meal. They now have outdoor seating!
I am always on the hunt for a good falafel when I am on the road. I popped in two days in a row and was not disappointed. The second trip was after a 13 mile hike up Malibu. Made it even better. Really enjoyed conversing with the owner about the various falafel recipe rivalries in the middle east. The secret is in the prep!
This place is sooooo good! Best falafel sandwiches ever! You must come here and enjoy the blissful customer service. The food is fresh and fast. It’s really really good. The food is plenty and the quality is amazing. Please come eat here! They also love college students especially!
I've been coming here on and off for years, the food is always amazing and cheap and fresh. The staff are lovely. The juice is amazing. One of my favorite places to go when i owe someone lunch ;)
Been going here since I started school out in Santa Monica two years ago. The place is extremely constistant with good food for a good price (especially with their SMC combo discounts). The food up and down the menu is always made well and tastes great, from their classic falafel to their more recent addition of American hamburgers. Friendly staff and a lovely environment. Easily one of the better places in not just the SMC area, but Santa Monica as a whole. Favorites: fruit juice mix, gyro sandwich, and dolma sandwich
Ordered Kaftan delight with extra rice for two. Great option to sample different dishes. Falafel was specially crunchy, loved it. Honest food, reasonable price.
Best Felafel in town by far! The owner Mike is great to be around! He's usually always there. The lamb is to die for. Fresh squeezed juice. And i believe Monday and Wednesday from 3-5 pm there is all you can eat falafel sandwiches.
Hungry Pocket has been here a long time, The food & workers are 5 stars all the way. My fav is the lamb shawafel w/ extra hot sauce. old school spot where traffic gets bad but its worth checking out.
They're my favorite falafel place. I eat here because I am vegetarian and they know I don't eat meat so they make it special for me and I can see how they make it. They only fry falafel balls in the fryer which is great. I eat with confidence.
The Hungry Pocket is across the street from SM College so portions are generaous & reasonably priced. The house made falafel are crispy, seasoned just right, & are excellent as a sandwich or as a side. The burgers and gryos are made to order so sometimes there's a wait, but it's worth it. The lamb is slightly gamey well seasoned but another great sandwich. There are good vegan day options such as salads or the tasty Dolma sandwich pita. But for me personally, this is an excellent, cheap, cheat day place to load up on calories, red meat, & fried plant protein.
Had such craving for Falafel pita. Went to Hungry Pocket and they did not disappoint. So much flavor coming from that little joint :) Falafel and Babaganoush to die for; total flavor bombs!! 💥💥😋
Great food and wonderful people (owner & staff). The best and freshest food all the time. Very friendly staff....we will keep coming back here! Price is reasonable too.
Low key, easygoing place frequented by SMC students, but you don't have to be super smart to realize that this is an awesome place to grab an unassuming, healthy bite. Falafel themselves are perfectly done. Freshly prepared for your order, light, crispy without being greasy. Tabbouleh and babbaghanoush rounded out my plate. Try the home-concocted hot sauce, though not if you're into mild (booooring). The guy who served me was clearly the owner based upon his enthusiasm; a nice guy enthusiastic about serving. I'm on a healthy kick these days, so food like this appeals to me more than burgers and fries. I'll be back.
loved the falafel with tahinii sauce Silvia was best hostes and help with the menu 👍👍🥙🧆 The olace has self order kiosk for credit card order #Restaurant #gyros #kabob #salad #falafel #burger @Hungrypocket
Yes, the prices have gone up a little, but this killer hole in the wall gets five stars. Still a bargain for the delicious falafel and gyro sandwiches, amazing super spicy sauce and majorly friendly staff. Just go!
The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. I've had the falafel sandwich and the gyro sandwich, and both are excellent. The Hungry Pocket really is the best!
I used to go here when I was at Santa Monica College.I went recently.Great Falafels. They make your food as you order it.So fresh and excellent. The food has been consistent all these years.I believe they are the BEST Falafels on the Westside.Very friendly staff.
Best gyro in Santa Monica! You gotta get the hot sauce, it’s the best! I’m not usually a huge fan of Mediterranean food, but the hot sauce pushes this place over the top.
Great sandwiches, falafel was excellent. Dolma sandwich was exactly as it sounded & tasted perfect. Family owned business, great service. Will return
I grew up eating here as my grandfather used to come here all the time for their falafels! I love them. Super yummy and nostalgic for me and just a solid little spot for a falafel pick me up! I miss them a lot since moving out of LA.
Decent food + service. Their falafel sandwich is really good. Good spot for a quick meal. Hot sauce can be improved :)
The first time I went to hungry pocket unplanned, I felt I am lucky to be there. As I love homemade taste food beside what is made of, hungry pocket is a perfect choice. After a few years I go there I still love it< and I believe that the quality of food ,gyro my favorite, is getting better. I highly recommend this cozy restaurant.
I love this place, have been coming here from before the pandemic to now as I am returning to Smc. And I will continue to support this establishment. Its small but hearty. The food is great and the customer service is welcoming and friendly.
We found this place by chance while visiting from Colorado the food was amazing, great flavors, generous portions, quick service and delicious. The owner came to say hi and was very personable. I definitely recommend it for a quick bite to eat it will be worth it. 👌
OMG so good. You need to try their salads and their hot sauce if u have salt cravings. They also make fresh juices but my favorite are their fries and the showaffel. The employees are these two awesome ladies, super great place. Without them that place wouldn't be the same.
It was really tasty. I've been going around town on a falafel frenzy for the last year and this is definitely one of the better Mediterranean spots I've been to. I recommend the falafel pita. My non-vegetarian friend recommends the gyro plate. The atmosphere is chill. The prices are great. The management seemed laidback and friendly but not that inorganic and in-your-face kind of friendly. The place itself is rather small... There are certainly no frills in the decor, but it doesn't really matter. This is a good place to relax, get stuffed with good food, and maybe catch a soccer match on the TV near the register/bar.
We had an amazing time food was good and fresh
Delicious freshly fried falafel - you know it’s good when it’s that rich green color inside. The hummus, baba ghanoush, and baklava was super tasty as well. Jeff (the owner) was very kind and chatted with us for a while. Would love to come back regularly!
A good friend of mine turn me on to this place. Thank God. I love it I just love it food is fresh tasty and a good price make sure you come and try everything tip the staff they make this place feel like home!! enjoy❤️❤️❤️😎
Finally a good falafel/kebab/shwarma place around. Their „motto“; We don't serve fast food, we serve fresh food as fast as possible captures it pretty well. I recommend the Falafel plate for $9.99, it's pretty cheap and filling and truly made out of fresh ingredients. Don't order the Meat lover plate for $30, it's pretty expensive and not that filling.
Amelie was so Nice with us today!, the food was so good and especially halal, something difficult to find in LA. Thanks 👌
The beef koubideh was excellent. The service is great and the food is fantastic!! Highly recommend
The Hungry Pocket is now open on Sundays! And if you have not tried it, they have a new item, the SHAWFEL! It’s a lamb shawarma and falafel balls in a pita with lettuce tomatoes etc with tahini , hot sauce and hummus on the side.
Very good service and quality for food
This is legit and delirious Mediterranean food. Emily was super helpful. 5 stars.
I got a Kafta Beef Sandwich. It was the most amazing meal I've had when eating out in a WHILE. The prices are incredibly reasonable and the meat is cooked on a skewer and the aroma is incredible. This place is just absolutely amazing. They also have vegetarian options. 10/10, I think I've found my new favorite spot.
Great food at great prices. The staff was also very friendly!
such a cute spot! Falafel was some of the best I’ve had, so fresh. Guy behind the counter did an amazing job running the whole place, so friendly and competent.
The hungry pocket is amazing, and they have specials for the SMC students.
The best falafel sandwich, with a unique and delicious hot sauce. I have been coming here for lunch over 10 years and the quality has not dropped at all. The man who owns the place is so kind and his employees are as well. A gem of Santa Monica.
The food smells and taste great, and Emily gave me great service.
Great food, great service, great people. Will come again :)
I love coming here after my classes at SMC, personally I love their burgers but today I tried their gyro and to say the least it's the best I have found in LA! I'm from Iran originally so I love the mom & pop shop kinda atmosphere it has, although the decor needs a little update. Only problem I have had is their fries, the fries are good some days, and some days their damp and inedible. But overall still better then some places near SMC. Biggest pro for students would the pricing, a cheese burger, fries and a soda is $12.65 which for the quality you get it's really good in my opinion. Overall Hungry pocket has a 8/10 from me, good pricing, lovely staff, and good food. All that it needs a updated decor and a little better fries and it's a full 10/10 from me. Ps. They deserve the 5 stars for awesome the staff is there.
This place is delicious, their baba is bomb and flavored well. Food was fresh and hot and Emily handled a group of hungry filmmakers like a pro.
Delicious fast and reasonably priced, always my go to spot when I’m in need of my falafel or schwarma fix!
We were going to Santa Monica and found this place! Omg absolutely delicious The person serving us is very nice too,10/10 on customer service. Recommendation: If the gyro sandwich can have garlic sauce or any other white sauces with tahini it’s would’ve have been a great combination
Cute little place. Served by a very friendly person. The food too was good. However, I must say, this place is more suited for a takeout, because the number of tables are limited. Parking places are limited as well.
First time here, service was amazing, friendly customer service. I ordered a burger with fries and they were very delicious, especially the burger and it’s big too which just tops it off, cute setting too!😍
What a wonderful place. I tried the chicken Sandwich and it was so delicious that I had to try something else as well. I would definitely come back, you can't get better food for this price.
Family owned small restaurant that caters to the SMC community. The gyro was amazing! The meat was tender and well seasoned. Parking may be hard to find during school hours.
great meal and really nice ppl who work there
I got the Greek salad with lamb gyro, and the meat lives up to the hype. Tasty and tender. I got tahini sauce to dip it in, and they also offer chili hot sauce. Glad to support a small business.
Finally stopped in! Very yummy, fresh, and chill atmosphere. Highly recommend the fresh juices(I did Apple/Carrot, & Apple/Carrot/Orange) and of course the Baklava!!

Exceeded expectations, the ladies were super friendly and the food was delicious!

We love this tiny restaurant across from SMC! I was looking for a good falafel in Santa Monica and found this place. The falafel is made fresh and is delicious. I also tried the shawarma another time and enjoyed that, too. The owners and staff are really friendly and we are happy to keep coming here.
This is the first time I came to eat here. The price was reasonable. I ordered the chicken kabob with 2 sides of hummus. Big tender pieces of chicken with tabbouleh, salad, and two pita breads. It was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant.
First time trying Mediterranean food And OMG the food was so good. I got the super falafel plate!! Highly recommend. This is my new favorite spot.
Emily was great! Excellent service and she made my double cheeseburger to perfection—it was really filling. The whole meal was only $15, which is cheaper than a lot of fast food places nowadays. Definitely a great value!
"I had a great experience at [hungry pocket ]. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, with fresh ingredients and bold flavors. I especially enjoyed the combo #2 Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to!"
Needed a quick bite right before my class start. The lady in the front helped me out. She explained students get discounts! She prepped my meal fast! Thank you so much! Will definitely come back!!
Currently I’m in Kyrgyzstan, but when I was studying in Santa Monica that was my favorite place to eat after classes, nice people working there, and the main thing for me meat was halal, burgers and fries were always good I miss them still, thank you guys, I hope one day, by Gods will, I will come back to USA as a tourist and taste your food one more time!!!
Food was delicious! Definitely worth supporting. The lady working there deserves a raise. She was very kind and running everything solo perfectly!
I love this place, food is always good. The woman at the front has a great, friendly vibe. Thanks!

Fresh standard mediterranean fare, great tabouli, crunchy falafel and all made to order. Veggie & vegan options of course. Better for pick up than dine-in. Convenient location & friendly service.
It was a nice little place, I had the Gyro and it was alright. They had a Farsi program on the TV and I assume the owner was watching as he was doing paperwork, he seemed to be a friendly fellow. Smelled like good food in there, I'll most likely go again
Great tasting (healthy) falafel in a well sized portion. Spicy sauce adds a nice kick. Definitely recommend and would come back.
The San Marino Cafe & Marketplace is a lovely little spot. I've tried many items, but my favorites are the Avocado Toast and salads. The salad dressing especially is to die for-if I wasn't in a restaurant setting, i'd totally lick my plate! I'm a super picky eater, and they always so accommodating with my requests. I also love that there is parking right in back and there are a few tables outside so I can take my dog to lunch, too. Wonderful owner and staff!
The falafel was surprisingly good! I’m pretty sure the plate and the super plate were the same thing, or my order was mixed up - regardless, the plate is plenty big.
The boss came from Iran as a student 50 years ago and he is very nice. Students can get discount even though you don’t have school ID yet. We arrived at around 7:20 pm before they’re close at 8. We chose to sit outside and the boss had his worker leave one table for us outside so we could enjoy eating outside with fresh air and view. The portion is good. We had gyro delight plate with double lamb recommended by the boss. He said, it is better than lamb and chicken so we followed his suggestion. The food is good, and the sauce is awesome. We had a great time and full tummy. They don’t provide water though. It is a nice place. He has suffered through Covid-19 and lost a lot financially. Finally school Is open and he is going online to make it known to more people outside the area. Recommended to try and have a blast.
Visited here the other day, and was pleasantly satisfied! The sauce in the gyro wasn't what we're used to, but it was no less delicious! The patty in the kebab sandwich was handmade and fried after the order was placed, which we thought was impressive (and, of course, delicious). I found it odd that there was no cloth cover on the outdoor eating area despite the sun. It did get windy later in the day, so the sun cover may blow out of control. I recommend this place because, as their sign says, they sell fresh food, fast!
🍳Recommendations? Kafta sandwich was pretty good, though it wasn’t seasoned that well. Fries were good. 👧🏾🧒🏽 Kid- Friendly? Yes ! Plenty on the menu that’s friendly. 🚗 Parking? Yes, there’s a free lot available, has about 10-15 spots, most of which are filled. ♿️ Accesibility? Wheelchair Accessible 🔂 Would I return? Possibly, it’s very convenient since it’s right next to SMC.

Gyro was pretty good pita was different and the sauce taste like hummus mayo not good. The hot sauce they gave me was real tasty and spicy
Falafels were pretty good (4/5) Baba ganoush && hummous were amazing (5/5) Food is very good, but the portion sizes are small. If you buy a “deluxe falafel plate” ($16) you only get 3 falafels. And no rice. So it’s not very filling to be honest. I suggest they give 4 falafels in the luxury plate. But if you don’t have a large appetite, then it’s a good choice. Otherwise, you leave with a hungry stomach.
They say that their falafel sandwich is vegan, but I saw them toast the Pita bread on the grill they just used to cook someone's burger. Good sandwich though, wouldn't get mine toasted anymore.
This place was good and moderately priced the first time I ate here but i just ordered a $10 beef sandwhich with barely any meat and the little meat that was in it was extremely sour and inedible because I'm guessing it was marinated in lemon for too long.
The food is good, but the service is bad. My order was ready to pickup but the older man working there made it a point to ignore me for a while to help another customer who came in after me.He stopped midway during his attempt to hand me my food, only to prioritize taking an order and completing a transaction with a different customer who again, came after me. I understand if one wants to treat a frequent customer of theirs nicely, but there's never a reason to give bad customer service to another by completely ignoring the first customer to take care of the second one that walked in afterwards.
It was clean, and the customer service was pleasant. It says there was supposed to be parsley and onion but didn't come on the sandwich. It was dressed like a burger more than anything and here was also no garlic sauce. The prices on Google are inaccurate.
Good Gyros but the owner is very unaccommodating . He is curt and once I asked for extra gyro instead of extra sauce and he was like, “No!” HELLO!!! The customer is always right! He could have said instead, “Absolutely! There will be a small charge for extra gyro.” It IS after all on the menu (which is why it came flying out my mouth in the first place). Stop being so cheap! If I ask for extra sauce on the side, they don’t put any on the sandwich and give LITERALLY a teaspoon of sauce... on the side, of course. Terrible! Nothing worse for me than a dry sandwich! I don’t care HOW good it is!
The food is good but the portion was ridiculous. $20 for a lamb plate that barely had any lamb on it, and was mostly filled with lettuce
Went here for the first time today. The place was dirty, the food was old. I think he was the manager, he was a mean old guy sitting there watching the employees and customers. Not again. I'll stick to my norm.
I will be honest I won't go back to this place again. I have tried gyros , and when I bought a gyro sandwich here it wasn't good, with 4 tiny pieces of dry thin meat and the sandwich was 90% lettuce. People sont waste your mone-year going to get a gyro go get a hamburger from mcdonalds instead.
The tables are sticky ,everything I ordered tasted so old and not fresh at all, ordered the lamb skewer didnt taste like lamb at all and was very hard to chew. The bread had this smell to it. I threw half of my food and oh everything is expensive defiently not worth it.
The quality of the falafel is low. Also, customer service is beyond low. Try Pita House Falafel is the best .
Food is NOT fresh, especially the meat. Small portion sizes for price. I think maybe management has changed. Beware - only some items on menu are halal. Hummus is very DIY (gritty). Good location.
Aside from the nice lady at the counter - place wasn't worth $25 for my lamb plate. The lamb was cooked beyond desired temperature, hummus was very gritty and had the consistency of rustic mashed potatoes - no seasoning and the pita was meh. Not going back FOR SURE!
