Amazing food and amazing service. The tacos are amazing and are a great late night snack (we came pretty late). They’re one of the few actual authentic mexican street food spots open late! They have so many options for a protein including Noplaes (cactus), which were my favorite, steak (the meat was so tender), the birria is mouth watering and the orange salsa is perfect. It’s a great addition to midtown and it went above and beyond what I was expecting for a new restaurant in this block. Whataburger is across the street but this place takes the cake when being around this area.
The staff is really accommodating and super nice! Food is really good and they offer military discount. Will definitely come back again!
The food was extremely delicious - highly recommend the corn tortillas as they are homemade. The people are very friendly and the service was great!
Great tacos. My favorite was the fried chicken tacos Baja style. Don’t forget the homemade hot sauce.
What an AMAZING taqueria! Everything was wonderful, didn't get any pictures cause I was too busy stuffing my face! They make their own tortillas and everything!
Phenomenal food, especially the Birria!
Made to order, a wide variety of delicious proteins (carnitas and birria) and super nice people running the clean, bright space. Definitely satisfied the taco craving.
I've eaten here three times in a week. It's delicious. Fast friendly service with great food and drinks. Highly recommend!
Fantastic new Mexican restaurant. The corn tortillas are house made. The different meats are very well prepared. A wide varitwry of beers and the deserts and unique very tasty.
My husband and I have been visiting Central Mexico for the past 15 years, living there half the year for the past three years. So we love and eat A LOT of Mexican food! El Rey, located next door to Red Eye Coffee, is the first time we have found delicious, authentic Mexican that isn’t Tex-Mex. The carnitas torta was large yet not heavy. The bread was thick, yet fluffy and light, with a crispy crust. They bring it in from a Mexican baker in Cairo, GA! The torta (Mexican sandwich, only $13) was flavorful and loaded with fresh ingredients. We’re big lovers of lengua (cow tongue) and we were excited to try the El Rey street-style soft taco. ($4 ea) So moist, tender and flavorful. The lengua is diced into small pieces so even a reluctant diner won’t be intimidated to try this tasty morsel. And the nopales (cactus) tacos are definitely authentic. A crazy surprise- the French fries! Firm, crispy, not the least bit greasy with a perfect fluffy, tasty center. The young owners, Adriana and Mauricio moved to Tallahassee a year or so ago and are committed to delivering an authentic taste of Mexico to Midtown. Gil and I are thrilled to have them in our ‘hood! We’ll be gathering up our neighbors for an evening at El Rey. We encourage you to do the same!
This place just opened, and I have already came here 5 times since. Food is amazing, authentic and fresh, and the owners are great guys. Also is clutch that they are open til 2 am Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Today I had an opportunity to have lunch here. The place was busy but the service was fast, delicious and very much affordable. If you're looking for a convenient location to grab a bite to eat, try this place. You will not be disappointed.
The food was cooked fresh to order. The veggies were fresh and crisp. Great options for toppings. Easy to read menu. Vegetarian option as well as options for tortillas (corn or flour). Also the queso and salsa tasted homemade and was flavorful. Loved it! We will be back.
Would recommend. Great food
The food was delicious and packed with flavor, the staff are nice and friendly, it’s got a lighthearted atmosphere that’s very inviting.
Friendly staff. Casual restaurant in the heart of midtown. Walk up ordering and table service. Fresh made items. Inside and outside seating. Salsa is made with cilantro. It was great! I plan to return.
Great food! We had the queso, delish! and tacos and quesadillas. Everything was excellent. They have different proteins like beef tongue, yum. It's a nice little place up on Thomasville Road, was a bit confused about the parking but I figured it out. The service was speedy and accurate. The staff were all very nice. It was just a pleasant experience.
It’s my 3rd time here. Food is always excellent. Very consistent and the staff is very welcoming. My favorite is the lengua tacos.
Best tacos in Tally. Taste just like the ones in Mexico. Staff is awesome
Tooo good !! Ngl they got me to review and I never review anything
Everything was super good. We had the mahi corn tacos and fried chicken corn tacos, amazing flavor. We also had the chips and queso, had a good amount of it to fill us and their sangria was delicious. We will be back!!
I’m a native Texan that moved to Florida. I’m visiting Tallahassee and was craving tacos. I stumbled upon El Rey and I am so glad I did. I haven’t had tacos this good since Texas. The tacos are phenomenal! I highly recommend El Rey style. The corn tortillas are perfection. And the agua frescas are delicious. I will definitely be back. Wonderful service too! I devoured my tacos before even taking a photo they were that good.
We love El Rey! We tried seven different tacos, the quesadilla, and the churro cheesecake. All were fresh and delicious! We loved trying the different sauces that came with the tacos. Service was fantastic. Definitely will return soon to try more of the menu!
Stopped by mid-afternoon for a quick/late lunch and got 3 tacos (birria, carnival, and al pastor). Came out hot and quick. The green sauce was an awesome addition!
Everything was great. I had a Baja fish taco and an El Rey pastor taco. My daughter had two Baja chicken tacos. We both had horchata to drink. The place has only been open for several days but we recommend it. As we waited for our food, we noticed it smelled great in there, due to the open kitchen. It's on the Thomasville side of the midtown center which houses Fire Betty's.
This was our first time at El Rey. Walking in, we were apprehensive that a new taco place could ever successfully take the place of the previous (and delicious!) taco place. The menu offered several choices including three topping styles: El Rey, Baja, and traditional American, It happened to be National Taco Day today, so I tried one of each. The El Rey and Baja were both terrific. The American was good, but given availability of the first two and the preference of American style tacos at literally every taco place, there’s no need for me to try them again. Order the El Rey and/or Baja style. You will not be disappointed! Service was exceptional. Everyone was friendly, and our meals came quickly and were hot. We’ll be back!
Came here for the first time today. Tacos were very good. Cooked to order with fresh ingredients. Queso and chips were fabulous too.
I recently visited El Rey Tacos & Beer and had the pleasure of trying their Torta de Pastor. It was absolutely delicious! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the meat was tender and flavorful. I also tried their aguas frescas, and they were incredibly refreshing and tasty. The service was also excellent, with friendly and attentive staff who made the experience even better. The atmosphere at El Rey is vibrant and welcoming, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for authentic and delicious Mexican food in Tallahassee!
Both service and food are out of this world. It’s hard to find places with authentic Mexican food in Tally, but these guys at “El Rey” are doing an amazing job. My girlfriend and I had shrimp tacos and quesabirrias, both dishes were incredible.
Came here for the first time with my fiancé and my little one and the space was chill and vibey. The food was amazing and our server was truly the sweetest. Definitely coming back here again!
Such a cool place. Great staff. Wait time is awesome, none! Food is amazing. Large portions for great prices and presented very clean and appetizing. Race you there!!!!
This place is fire! The food is amazing great flavor. The staff is also amazing fast service and it’s seriously always a great time. Sometimes there’s karaoke or music going and everyone is dancing and having a great time.
Food portions are huge and delicious, and the margaritas are reasonable and were also really good. The service was outstanding, and she checked on us repeatedly and was really nice. We also came here on a Saturday night and they were doing Karaoke and the host was terrific and we had a lot of fun. Highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t been there.
Tacos are fantastic. Good deal at $4 per, but a steal at $1.99 after 5pm. The gauc was very fresh tasting. The staff was super friendly and attentive!
El Rey Tacos offers an absolutely delicious and satisfying experience with their breakfast and lunch burritos. The flavors are truly next-level, with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced seasoning in every bite. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making every visit feel like a home away from home. Whether you’re starting your day with a hearty breakfast burrito or grabbing a flavorful lunch, you won’t be disappointed. If you’re in Midtown, I highly recommend stopping by and experiencing it for yourself—you’ll be glad you did!
The best tacos in town. The staff is incredibly friendly. Recently, I had a situation with my order and the staff amazed me by how caring and considerate they were. I was going to leave because I thought there was no way they could fix my order in time (I had to rush to pickup my daughter from school) but they made my order priority and got me out of there in time. Was truly blown away by the kindness and quality of this place. This is why we support local businesses! Thank you to the great people at El Rey. Will be coming here often.
Good food and service was great. Chicken tinga and steak tacos were delicious and were served within minutes of ordering. Washed them down with two cold Modelos. Will definitely be back. Especially after checking out their brunch menu.
My friends and I visited this place on a Tuesday for the all you can eat taco deal The tacos were delicious and the cashier was super sweet and the manager was amazing and kind and the overall vibes were so good. This local spot is definitely going to be a frequent visit for my friends and I.
THE BEST restaurant, not just Mexican food or tacos, the BEST restaurant in Tallahassee. Amazing prices, the best tacos ever, staff is so generous and nice. Will riot if anything negative happens to this place.
Love this place so much!! Have been here 3 times at it hits every time. Tastes super authentic and all the staff are so sweet
Excellent food, atmosphere, and people! Great spot if you’re looking for a tasty bite to eat, or if you just want to grab a drink and have some fun. Saturdays are the best, highly recommend you bring your friends!
We’ve been here multiple times and every time it’s so delicious! The service is always great every time we go. I like getting three tacos and getting each one in a different style because every style is delicious. Definitely recommend this place!
El Rey truly is the King of Tacos. The service was fantastic and the staff and owners are passionate. Their food is authentic Mexican, and the quality and taste of everything are hands down the best I've had. The portion sizes are also surprisingly good, and it not only hits the spot but leaves one feeling filled. El Rey is certainly is the best tacos in Tallahassee, and might be one of the best local eats in town. Fives Stars well earned.
Alexa was the best waitress ever!!!! Amazing Shrimp Baja Tacos 🌮
The people that work here are very kind and friendly. Will definitely come back and eat here again! The food was great. The steak - birria - baja shrimp were amazing. The chicken was good but not on the same level! Side note for whoever is responsible, in my humble opinion i prefer the chicken has a little bit more of seasoning or that grill flavor to it.
Great food. We had the tacos and quesabirrias. It was so good. Also, the service was 10/10. Highly recommend!
Come here for authentic Mexican food in Tallahassee! This place is amazing, the staff work so hard to make it a pleasurable experience.
**Follow up** Where to go for a late afternoon meal with kids after shopping??? COME TO EL REY'S!!!! We had 4 different meals. The King's Burrito, The Quesebirria tacos, the build your own bowl and the tinga chicken quesadilla. Everything was delicious and we all thought we had the best meal. I had the Wednesday special the 3 birria tacos with pineapple agua fresca. Everything was fresh and delicious. The consomme was so good I asked for a spoon. It's clean and bright. Can't wait to come back.
It was my first time trying there food and I visited on Jan 24,2026 because I found the place interesting and the food was absolutely bomb and delicious full of flavor and freshness and there horchta so delicious and I would try them again and the service was very lovely so I would really recommend for new visitors 😁
All you can eat tacos is definitely worth it if you want to eat a lot. They give you 5 tacos at a time. My only complaint is that there is too much high top seating and the seats are not comfortable. No complaints about the food or service!
Pretty darn good, I have tried several tacos different ways and they were all delish. Little pricey for the size, but hey they have to pay rent at that spot.
The food was so delicious and fresh I highly recommend this new favorite spot can’t wait to try again the staff was very kind and generous
I ordered the birria tacos and they did NOT disappoint! They were packed with meat — no stinginess at all — and came out steaming hot and super fresh. The service was quick, and the server was on point. The atmosphere was amazing too, all good vibes with karaoke going on. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to! I also ordered some loaded fries (with steak ) and they were crispy, seasoned just right, and hit the spot.
the food was good tacos were super tasty ! and Alexa was very nice, her beer recommendations were superb
I ordered delivery and got a steak burrito, it was so great! I cannot wait to go in person soon and try some other items. I 100% recommend getting the chipotle sauce on whatever you order!
Absolutely wonderful place, and great food. Highly recommend, and make sure to ask for Alexa for an even better experience!
Such a great experience and the food was DELICIOUS! Service was incredible, cannot wait to come again. Our group did the Tuesday All You Can Eat tacos and it was such a great deal! Tacos were delicious (I got the nopales and the steak tacos) and I really enjoyed them. The nopales were very authentic and felt like I was back at home. Everyone was super attentive and the space is very fun. I want to come back for brunch, and I definitely want to see their Karaoke Night on Saturdays for their happy hour.
We really enjoyed this little taco shop. Very simple menu; clean and comfy inside. Ordering was a breeze. Tacos were great little street tacos. Obviously scratch made. They aren’t what you’d find in SoCal or Houston, but they are very good. Rice and beans were fantastic as well. I would visit here often if I lived in the area. Kudos and thank you!
This place is so good no joke. The pictures look weird bc of my camera but the food was so good. My drink was forgotten and when I called she immediately offered to make it but I was already too far away and she refunded me without even having to drive back. Her making the refund so easy made the experience 100% time better. I’ll be returning for sure. Also the drink was no big deal bc I forgot about it just like them. Also the cashier was so sweet she gave food suggestions on what to buy
I have been dying to try this place, because it’s the only restaurant I’ve heard that does a classic california burrito in town. I went for the first time & didn’t see it on the menu, but the front register person helped once I asked. Not a long wait at all & super fresh! It was everything I expected & more! Got it to-go & it was still super crispy & yummy once I got home. Can’t wait to have it again. This is how you do it yall.
Unbelievably good tacos!! Simple yet flavorful! Priced decent. Quick service! Definitely tells the Tacos and the tortas
Absolutely fantastic experience! The food was incredibly delicious, and the service was excellent. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. The picadillo and tinga tacos were my favorites, and the dulce de leche empanadas were the perfect sweet finish. They have an amazing all you can eat taco Tuesday deal that I definitely recommend trying out! The staff was exceptionally kind and attentive. The restaurant vibe was welcoming, with indoor and outdoor seating, and even a fun claw machine for a little added entertainment. Can’t wait to come back! Definitely a new Tallahassee favorite!
Had a wonderful lunch experience here! I ordered the cactus tacos on corn tortilla and chips with guacamole. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. I was surprised with a desert from their menu on the house which made me feel very welcomed. Will for sure come back and try more on the menu!
Amazing experience! We ordered the vegetarian burrito, street tacos, and torta, and everything was delicious. I especially loved the brie taco, and my friend couldn’t stop raving about their torta—I’ll have to come back to try it myself! The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. We came for my birthday lunch, and they surprised us with a free lava cake, which was absolutely amazing. Such a thoughtful touch! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and great service. Can’t wait to come back!
Easily the best tacos in Tallahassee. I've been here several times since they opened and every time I come, they always improve on something. A variety menu of choices provides something for everyone without over complicating anything. They also make their tortillas fresh every morning! If you're looking for delicious and authentic tacos, this is the place to go!
This spot has been several outlets over time, but El Rey is bringing it legit! The food is Amazing!!! Several sides and you can get tacos ala carte with a nice variety. Can’t say enough good things!
Now I'm a regular at this restaurant. Always a great service with a great quality in the dishes. The proteins, the salsas and the overall menu options make always a great experience! If you're a foodie definitely you need to try baja style tacos!
We absolutely love this place, we go like once a week. The food is so fresh & yummy and the staff is so kind. They really treat their customer’s well and appreciate each and every one of them. This is our new favorite spot in town! We’ve tried a few different dishes and have enjoyed all of them

Amazing food! 100/10 recommend EL-RAY’s! Quick and friendly staff. We ordered quesa-birrias, street corn and a few different tacos and all were delicious 😋

Best tacos in town! So many options! Food came out fast and flavorful. Love the decor and can’t wait to come back for Latin night!
I got the mimosa(very chilled and enjoyable), pork burrito( so big! the meat was seasoned, cooked and flavored such that I wanted to keep eating...but I was full. :p ) Thanks for the nosh and full belly for the rest of my night. The wife enjoyed two tacos with our table queso dip. Parking is difficult but we got there just as it opened. It's tucked around the corner and a welcomed find.
The whole experience was great. The young lady was very nice and courteous. I ordered 2 birrea tacos, and 2 steak tacos. It was maybe 5 minutes from the time I ordered until I received my food. As soon as I saw my plate I just knew the tacos I ordered were going to be good. And they did not disappoint. They were awesome. Best tacos I've eaten in north Florida. I will definitely be returning. This is definitely my new restaurant for Hispanic food.
This place is located right near my job so I go here pretty often. The El Pastor taco is my favorite. It’s so flavorful and delicious but everything is so yummy. I’ve noticed you get bigger portions and Refills on the Agua Fresca if you dine in. When you go there, ask for Susie she is the sweetest. The whole staff is great though 😊

Haven’t been here and excited to try. I saw a comment asking for ground beef tacos, and cow tongue tacos was strange lol. Sir this is a MEXICAN food place, cow tongue is popular for tacos in our Mexican culture, go to Taco Bell if you want ground beef. We don’t make authentic Mexican tacos out of Ground beef, educate yourself before going to an authentic Mexican place to ask for something not authentic in our culture. Anyway. Excited to try!
Service was good, but wished the Karaoke wasn’t so loud so we could have sat inside.
Great lunch or dinner spot. Mexican restaurant with very good wings and the chef provided us a sample of their upcoming Sushi dish which was also great

El Ray was not what I was expecting for a Mexican restaurant. It was a counter service restaurant where you order at the register and they bring it to your table. Although, the guy at the register did try his best to provide service to the tables in between taking customer orders. A little pricey, but was a good experience with good food.
I was excited to try this place based on the good reviews I’d seen. The cashier/server was super sweet and helpful, but the food took a while to come out (not awesome when you have kids with you), and it wasn’t really hot when it got there. The kids quesadilla was very underwhelming and the fries were not appealing. The torta had good flavor, but didn’t have a lot of meat on it, so overall it was pretty disappointing just because of the rave reviews. It wasn’t really busy for a Saturday night, so not sure if it was a fluke. May try again with my husband another time to see if it was a one-off. I want to stick to local restaurants when we do eat out, which we’ve been trying to cut back on due to costs constantly going up. Hopefully it was just an off night.
The food wasn't tasty at all. Needs a little more love fam. The rice bowl was as bland as the back of my hand. It was white rice cooked in too much water. The steak tacos were very dry and unseasoned I spent $33 and expected to be a little better than what it was. The prices are wayyy to high. $8.50 for guacamole and chips??? But I ate it and now I'm full..thank you for that. But needless to say..I won't be back.
Tacos were really small for 4.00 each. Probably won't be spending money on those again. Nothing spectacular about them. Ordered steak quesadilla, now that actually had amazing flavor, the cheese on it made it a 10/10! Fresh sides of lettuce, tomato, sour cream and guacamole.

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately I was disappointed both times we visited. They have authentic Mexican options such as lengua and nopales. Nevertheless, the food is overpriced for the quality. The costilla was extremely dry almost rubbery. Same thing with the birria. Pastor is meh. The bolillos for the tortas were stale. After our first visit, we decided to give it another chance but we were equally dissatisfied (if not worse) our second time. There’s a lot of room for improvement for this restaurant. To those people who are complaining about tongue tacos and no ground beef, you should visit Taco Bell. This restaurant is aiming for more authentic flavors.
Normally dine in a few times a month. Today it was awful. Went in around 7pm. Ordered quesabirria. Full of fat on all 3 of them, so basically my taco was empty once I took out the fat. The sauce was oily with absolutely no flavor. The food came out lukewarm and the rice wasn’t warm at all. Going to give this place a break cause it’s starting to taste nasty.

The food was disappointing but the worst part was that everything on their website is $3 more expensive than if you order it in store. So even though I ordered directly from the stores website and picked up my own food I paid an extra $18 for nothing.
Parking is an absolute joke. Took three drive bys to find the place, and two to verify there was nowhere to park.
This place is an absolute joke. El Rey Tacos & Beer served some of the worst food I’ve ever had the misfortune of eating. The chips were bland, stale, and tasted like cardboard. The “guacamole” was literally just plain smashed avocado — no seasoning, no lime, no effort. Calling it guacamole is an actual scam. The tacos? Pathetic. The shrimp and chicken were completely unseasoned — no spice, no flavor, nothing. Like eating rubber wrapped in a tortilla. The queso was gritty, weirdly salty, and honestly inedible. But the worst part? The burrito. It was a disaster. Plain white rice with no seasoning or cilantro, no cheese, and chewy, flavorless steak that felt like eating rubber bands. The lettuce was wilted and tasted off, like it had been sitting in a fridge too long. And all of this garbage cost FORTY DOLLARS. Yes, forty dollars for food that was barely edible. I cannot believe I paid that much for what felt like punishment. Save your money, your taste buds, and your dignity. This place is an embarrassment. DO NOT go here. Ever.
