LJ’s Restaurant & Private Caterers is the kind of place you hope still exists, and this is the part that needs to be said first: this is the American dream in real life. A husband and wife who moved here from New Jersey, followed the father’s dream, and opened their own restaurant about two years ago in what used to be an old pizzeria. They’re doing it themselves, and it shows. We found it late at night while driving to Belleayre Resort and needed food. My daughter spotted it on Google Maps and it turned out to be a wonderful stop. The menu leans classic Americana, steaks, chicken wings, comfort food done right. We ordered the appetizer platter and everything was excellent, fresh, well cooked, and clearly made with care. Service was just as good as the food. It’s a small place, and at one point you could see the husband and wife sitting in the back corner watching TV with their kid when things slowed down. That alone tells you what kind of place this is. If you’re anywhere nearby, stop in, give them a try, and support what they’re building here. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
It's a must if in the area. TRIFECTA wonderful service, delicious food, and very reasonable prices for the quality of food. Found it on Saturday as we traveled up to Roxbury NY & returned on Sunday as we headed home. The restaurant is clean & the greeting is warm. We give a 5+. Hubby & I agree that you could taste the freshness & quality of the ingredients being used & there is no skimping on portions. It's truly a gem! Hubby LOVED the coleslaw but it was all good & the service really was the cherry on top!
Hands down the best turkey club sandwich I have ever had with fresh roasted house made turkey. My friend got the Roast beef hero and he was speechless. This place is an absolute gem and when I come back to Olive NY I will be eating here again for sure. Thank you so much!
This was one of the most delicious French onion soup that I had in a while. Everything that we ordered was great. The deserts Oreo muss cake and the red velvet cake were not too sweet, but flavorsome. The bill will surprise you in a good way. Thank you for the awesome gastronomic experience!
Turkey wrap and Cuban sandwich were incredible! The side of macaroni salad and coleslaw were classic NY deli style and delicious. Fresh brewed iced teas. Everything hit the spot. Highly recommend stopping in for a bite to eat!
Lj's restaurant provides a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff. The food is delicious, offering a homely feel with freshly made dishes. It's an overall great dining experience worth tryin. French onion soup and the Mexican platter was delicious!!!!!

Wow! What a gem! We had the buffalo chicken sliders which came on these rolls that were perfectly soft with just a little crunch on the outside. We also had the French onion soup which was different from others I’ve had, maybe a bit sweeter but probably the best I’ve ever had! And the chicken gyro was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place since the service was friendly and everything was delicious!
One of the few houses of worship left in the state of New York. Whether you are a local, a weekend skier, or just a passerby, at LJ's you will find sincerity in place of ceremony, devotion in place of ambition, and the triumph of an inner life in place of worldly applause.
They make a damn good Eggplant Lasagna Sandwich (It's on their specials list). I previously thought it was impossible to get anything but mundane, poorly prepared food within 25 miles of my rural, Ulster County, upstate NY home. Or, head over to Woodstock NY and pay through the nose, tourist's prices, for mundane food. I stopped in LJ's on Route 28 today after hearing a glorious recommendation from the local Dollar World Manager who was chomping down on his lunch. I'm glad I did. Good food ... very very tasteful and satisfying, large portions, inexpensive compared to others, and nice people. If they serve it, I always order Eggplant parmigiano. This is a dish that requires a lot of time and food prep to make it right. My grandmother would spend hours the night before prepping the eggplant, breading and cooking it, just to have the ingredients ready. LJ's does the prep work. IT was the best Eggplant Parmigiana hero I've had in months. Better than Kingston's (25 miles away) top Italian restaurants. I now have a new lunch spot where I'm looking forward to my next meal.
Great place. Old Town building with fresh and great food. Service was attentive and pleasant. Food was great and noticeably not just some items thrown together. Everything is thought out and compliment each other. We had cheese steak, chicken cordon Bleu, tenders, and a couple apps. Will go again when back in the area.
It is so good to see people who take pride in what they do. We had the guacamole and chips. It was truly amazing. My hubby had the pastrami Reuben spring roll and he can’t stop talking about it. You have got to try this place!
Stopped by for a couple of sandwiches. These guys are well deserving of a 5 star review. Fairly priced, hearty sandwiches. Perfectly made Italian combo, which I recommend. The folks working were extremely nice, and though we got to-go, it seems like a great atmosphere for a dine-in meal.
Unassuming place but food was excellent and service was great. Definitely beat waiting in line for an hour at the Phoenicia Diner!
The French onion soup was excellent. The hamburger sliders were very tasty. The chicken on the salad was moist and flavorful. Even the chili dogs were awesome! Great service!
5 Stars – Incredible Food & Great Atmosphere! Just had an amazing time at this new restaurant, and I can’t stop thinking about it! From the moment we walked in, the place had such a relaxed and inviting energy. The menu has something for everyone, and everything we tried was bursting with flavour and beautifully made. You can tell a lot of passion and care goes into each dish, and it shows. The staff were super friendly and made the whole experience even better. It’s the perfect spot for a dinner out, whether you’re celebrating something big or just hanging out with friends. Seriously, do yourself a favour and check this place out – you won’t be disappointed!
The place had a great atmosphere. It’s a great spot to go and hang out with friends or on dates. The food was delicious, our waitress was polite, and friendly. This will be my favorite spot to go with my husband. The wait wasn’t long the wings was fully cooked to perfection. The Cuban sandwich was to die for. Overall this has been one of the best spot we found so far and can’t wait to go back and try out the rest of the menus.
Had an amazing meal here, a special, “Guatemalan style chicken”. True homestyle comfort food, served piping hot with thick fresh handmade corn masa tortillas. The portion was large, and the service was wonderful. They have a great selection of beverages in the cooler, including coconut water and Mexico sodas. Good cheesesteaks too but Don’t sleep on the daily specials!

Nice Clean And Friendly Service. We ordered at the Counter. Found a nice table and The Kitchen brought out the Hot Fresh made meal. We bought the Lemon Marscapone for Desert to go. We will come back again.

I will give another try but chicken avocado ranch wrap was not good. Barely any chicken or avocado and was missing the Swiss cheese. Mostly lettuce and tomato. Very disappointing.
