My absolute favorite place for happy hour. Love love love the Rockin Tuna Tacos.
So ... Everything here is absolutely delicious. I'm vegetarian and I had the veggie tacos and the Rastamon Rolls paired with Lychee Saki. Avoid the creamy green flower at the edge of the plate unless you want to call the fire department! The drinks are strong and service was spectacular! Julia and the rest of the staff are so kind and attentive. I was really pleased with everything here overall - especially their tasty offerings 😁. Come here now!
This was a fabulous experience. To understand the level of kindness, you first need to know that we had just come from a day trip on the beach. We were not dressed up or anything. As a matter of fact, we looked pretty rough. Lol. So we are two people who like to try sushi from all over. If we visit a new place we will look for a good sushi bar. OK, my wife found this place called Raw Sushi and Sake Bar. So with our sun and salt water battered hair. Sun burnt skin and bathing suits, we walked into Raw (RSSB) We were greeted by the staff and asked where we would like to sit. We chose the sushi bar. As we looked over the menu, we told the staff that we were thankful they would let us dine there in our under dressed state. They assured us it was fine. We found all the sushi rolls they offer on the menu, and we're very impressed. As we struggled to decide on a roll for us both. We were curious which one the head chef and the waitress liked the best. Now we have all the information we need to really narrow it down. They all sounded so good we couldn't help but order 4 sushi rolls. Let me tell you that when they were done with our food and presented our dish to us, it was fabulous! The flavors that hit our pallet were abundant. From the presentation to the taste were perfectly done. The chef was friendly and helpful as the waitress as well. This is a much appreciated experience. Oh, and the spicy edamame was my wife's favorite. Give this place your time. They deserve it. From good-hearted people to good food. Amazing job, Raw Sushi and Sake Bar!!!
We met Nate (Sushi chef) at a small bar down the street from Raw and my husband and he talked a bit. We made a reservation for the next night, a Sat. Raw is a small well set up restaurant and very romantic . There’s only a few tables so make sure you make a reservation! We were sat down and Nate came over and welcomed us and sent over edamame that of course was yummy! We ordered street corn and it was fantastic. Make sure you get that. I like sushi but not a lover of it and had a sushi bowl of marinated steak tips and tempura shrimp, delicious. My husband got a few rolls and said it was the best sushi he’s ever had. Saki was excellent! We were completely full and we were sent over crispy tacos with tuna, never had that before, fantastic! Nate is gracious and welcomes everyone. Prices are great! 5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow! The chefs exceeded our expectations. We sat by the bar and ended with the chef’s omakase and wow! Everything was amazing and the only reason we stopped ordering was because we were full. Wether it is the perfectly seasoned smoky edamame, just sour enough hamachi carpaccio, the specialty rolls or nigiri - you will love it. Favorite roll was the surf and turf. Amazing restaurant!
Lovely place. Sushi was the best. Tasted so good. The Rawk and roll and salmon was a great selection. Place was crowded but cozy. Very great service and worth the money. Great for dinner dates for couples, friends and families. Drinks menu also great. Wide selection if choices for main dishes and starters. Affordable selections. Overall such a great experience. Located at a good spot. Good options near by in case you want to try a variation of cuisine such as Mexican and Italian. Cozy and intimate setting with delicious sushi. The staff is friendly and accommodating! The chef modified the rolls to suit my allergies. The sushi is fresh, and they have a great variety of rolls; the Off Da’ Hook is my go-to roll. The drinks are absolutely worth the experience, but the Lavender Saketini is a must!
Great prices, cool ambiance an decent prices by local seafood standards. Make a reservation beforehand if you can. Our waiter shaun was super accommodating and helped us understand the island and it's changes in the past few years really well too.
Intimate upscale sushi bar. We started with a couple of cocktails and apps… Matsuyama Mule and the Spicy Geisha (our fav!) and an order of edamame and Hamachi Carpaccio. It was a perfect start! We each had a salad next. I had the house salad and my fiancé had the Wakame seaweed salad. We were both happy with our salads. For our entrees we chose several specialty rolls: Rolling Rainbow, Tree O ‘Dem, Dat North Drop, and Miso Shellfish. The first two were good but we wouldn’t get them again because the last two I listed were absolutely phenomenal. My only complaint has nothing to do with the food or service, although our drinks did take a little longer than you’d expect, but our waitress apologized and said there were a lot of orders in. We appreciated the explanation. So my complaint had to do with patrons who cursed and complained incessantly about their work here, at another table. It is such a small cozy place and these folks were incredibly boisterous; more the sort of behavior of a sports bar than a finer dining establishment. I’m sure everyone heard their conversation (and you can bet we won’t have any dealings with their place of business). It was hard not to. We had reservations and were really looking forward to our meal as it was a birthday celebration or we would have walked out. I felt sorry for the cute quiet couple sitting directly next to them (we were two tables down in a row of three; I think there’s only 6 tables total). They ate their meal quickly in silence and left. It was hard for us to have a conversation so I imagine it was impossible for them. I kind of expected, or hoped, that our waitress would have at least acknowledged the inappropriate behavior, as we weren’t the only ones obviously uncomfortable. Bottom line: I do highly recommend this place and we’ll be back. I mean what’s the likelihood we’ll be there at the same time as those other folks again, right? 🤷♀️🤣
sushi was amazing got cat 5 and rosta monn and tuna rawkin tacos everything was amazing and fresh would recommend if in area to check it out, restaurant is super cool and feels like ur in japan!!
Relatively busy on a Sunday evening but no wait for a table. Two servers for ~8 tables plus several parties at the bar meant tables were waiting to be cleared when we arrived. Raw under common ownership with Agave and Pesce iTALiAN and an interior walkway connects the dining areas. This also means all the wine orders for at least Raw are poured from Pesce and walked thru, while cocktails may be poured from Agave and walked thru. Recommend the edamame while the wakame was the smallest portion I've ever seen anywhere. Rolls (maki) are the focus here and they are creative, artful, and usually a hit. Just remember that Japan is not a tropical island, so your fish selection will be limited. Still, relatively good value.
(June 23, 2019) Stopped in after getting off the car barge from St. John. Didn't know it was happy hour which was a wonderful treat! We enjoyed almost one of everything off the happy hour menu. I loved everything!! Fresh ingredients, quality presentation! Fast and friendly service!! I'd highly recommend going to this restaurant. There were other food options beside sushi.
Even though we didn't have a reservation (recommended) they were able to put us on the waitlist (party of 2). The waitlist wasn't long because of a cancellation but even if there wasn't, the host said about 20 minutes. I got the moonstone plum sake and it did not disappoint! The edemame was seasoned perfectly and the rolls were so fresh! Our expectations were exceeded, like we knew it was going to be fresh but it was amazing. Highly recommended and the staff were very nice and helpful.
Had the Rawkin tacos with the catch of the day which was rainbow runner. Very tasty the Rawkin sauce makes the tacos.
The food was awesome, staff were friendly. Atmosphere was great! Worth stopping by for a good time.
Best edamame in the game! Tree of dem role is the best I’ve ever had. Crispy tuna is so good.
Sushi bar experience did not disappoint. Fresh and unique rolls were next level. Service on point as well.
We ordered some red snapper sashimi, the Miso Shellfish roll, and the Off Da’ Hook roll. Everything was fresh and delicious! The chefs were also fun to sit near.
Had a great time at Raw! Service was really quick, sushi was fresh, and every roll we tried was delicious!
Appetizers and rolls were delicious!! Drink pours were spot on! If you like sushi, this place is a can’t miss!
Raw is a great sushi place. The fish quality is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. They cut the rolls and fish much more like authentic Japanese rather than Americanized giant chunks of food. The "small" house salad is delicious and really nicely prepared, not your typical mediocre afterthought salad. Highly recommend this place - it's kind of small you might need a reservation though we slipped in twice without one.
Fantastic! Best meal for the money we had in Red Hook. Cocktails were a great complement to the sushi options. Our server (Bailey) was fantastic. Try the Spicy Geisha.
From beginning to end a wonderful experience. My husband and I booked a reservation online for 5:00 and requested candles as we were celebrating our last night of our honeymoon. We were greeted at the door with many kind regards and a gift of a lovely glass of wine from the staff. We had decided to take our time with dinner and separately ordered the Raw'kin Tacos, Off Da Hook sushi roll, Iguana Go Home sushi roll, Surf N' Turf sushi roll, and a 14 Carrot Roll to take with us. I've never had fresher nor more unique sushi. The chef there paid attention to presentation, making each dish its own star and center piece. I can't say enough for the staff. Everyone was quite friendly and just overall created a lovely atmosphere. It definitely will be another stop for us should we come back to the island.
Phenomenal sushi! We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our meal. I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience was so above and beyond that I felt that it was so important to do so. The service was definitely a stand out. Nate (I think was an owner) was so attentive and accommodating. He made adjustments to our order for allergies/aversions. He greeted everyone and made a point to reach out to each table. He suggested his favorites and told us ones that he thought we would like based on our wants. Wonderful experience and so delicious! We will be back!
This place was great! Definitely my favorite place for a bite on St Thomas. We lucked out and made it in right as time expired for a reservation to show. I had the edamame and turned one of the sushi rolls (Data Rasta Mon) into a bowl which is a cool option. The food was delicious and the server was friendly and helpful.
My wife and I went at 5pm for an early dinner. Luckily they were running happy hour and we got some outstanding dishes at a very affordable price. All the sushi was excellent and staff was great. It also turned out to be one of our least expensive meals in St Thomas (which I was not anticipating) and we left full. Highly recommend!
Great spot. Sushi was so good! The hosts and servers were nice and the chef's were really nice as well. Came in shortly after they opened at 5 on a Saturday and were seated right away at the bar. Sake bombs were good as well. Overall great experience. Will return.
What an amazing dinner we had! I loved the sushi rolls they had, they even had some really great Sake, and it was fun to expose some of my friends and coworkers to some great food and culrute.
This place was recommended by a local resident. My wife and I ordered, water, spicy margaritas, miso soup, shrimp skewer, flank steak skewer, iguana roll w/o cream cheese, and the shrimp tempura roll. All of this food was delicious and perfectly prepared. The sushi was fresh and wonderful. The server was on-time with everything and very pleasant. This will no doubt be our sushi place while we work and stay on this island. Excellent!
One of the best sushi restaurants we've tried. We visited the night before we left and wish we would've tried it earlier- would've gone several times! We started with fish bites and edamame. We followed that up with some red snapper and hamachi nigiri (phenomenal). For our main, we had a surf n' turf roll and a RAWkin' roll. Everything was cooked perfectly, flavors paired well and was plated beautifully. The atmosphere was perfect for our date night and we would highly recommend. We will definitely be back the next time we're in St. Thomas!
Food was really great! Best edamame I’ve ever had. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed having it food directly handed to us over the bar right when it was ready. Service was great and loved the atmosphere also!
Fantastic, amazing, delicious! The sushi chefs made excellent food AND were fun to chat with. They even offered suggestions to fit my gluten-free vegetarian diet. Will definitely return on future trips to the island!!
Worth the wait! Exemplary food, stellar service (even when busy!). Food is uncommonly fresh and incredibly flavorful. Cocktails are intriguing and delicious; incredibly quick service from the bartenders. Staff are pleasant and attentive. Shout out to Tyler, Sam and Angelina, who were incredible and truly elevated the experience!
Not going to lie, I was a little worried coming into this place that it wasn’t going to be good. But the sushi was absolutely amazing and fresh! I’m sad that we found this place our last night here, because we definitely would have gone twice! The service wasn’t great. When we arrived there was only one waitress, we got our food before we got our drinks. The drinks were way too strong to even drink. But the food here is worth going for! Everything was delicious
They are so nice here!! I ordered to go so I could take some work calls, called it in and picked it up in like 20 minutes, and got home to some of the most delicious sushi I’ve ever had. I got the Nadir My Problem and Rawkin Roll. Perfect for two people. Everything was delicious. I also got miso soup and it did not disappoint! You really should go here! Literally some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.
I recently visited Raw Sushi, and overall, it was a good experience. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was friendly and attentive. The sushi was fresh, but I was a little disappointed with the rolls—they had very little fish compared to what I expected. While the flavors were still enjoyable, I would have preferred a better fish-to-rice ratio. That said, the presentation was beautiful, and the other dishes on the menu were well-prepared. I’d consider coming back, but I might opt for sashimi or other options next time.
I have to admit the fish was very fresh and there was a great ambiance to the place. Great music playing with dim lighting. No dessert option since they got small space but still worth coming. Only miss was the miso but the rolls were awesome! Parking is behind the restaurant and also at the shopping center across the street or next door. Get reservations though save the hassle.
Made reservations, but probably doesn’t matter there was plenty of open seating. Rolls are cut thin and everything was fresh. Service was prompt and friendly. Parking is available at the strip mall across or next door it says you’ll be towed but you won’t. Haven’t had any issues finding a spot.
Quaint little sushi spot with good vibes. The sushi was tasty but the service could be a bit better esp since its so small. At least 3 times we had to ask for refills. Wouldnt stop me from coming back though. Still enjoyed it.
We weren’t able to sit in the restaurant because we failed or make reservations however the staff was extremely accommodating and let us order to go. The sushi bowls were fantastic and presentation was exceptional for being to go.
One of the freshest sushi I’ve had in the island!
One of my favorite spots in STT, keep up the good work guys! Dat North Drop Roll and Goin Back to Cali Roll 😊
Great place for sushi. It is the same restaurant as the other 3 in the row.
Excellent food, and, the service was great. The portions were a tad on the small side, which was my only reason for not leaving 5 stars. Love their take on Asian fusion, combining just the right amount of island flavors with their sushi. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a great dinner or lunch in the Red Hook area.
Great place! The rolls are ENORMOUS!! They have really fun combinations and great options for people who don’t love raw fish
We had dinner at Raw during a recent trip to St. Thomas. Our first impressions were good: nice staff, menu looked good, and they had a happy hour menu. However, we also saw that there were only 6 fish available, one of which was boiled shrimp (which we never eat). A pretty unimpressive line-up for a sushi bar. We started with the miso soup, RAWkin' tacos, and a red snapper maki roll. The soup was good, the tacos better (we added a 4th taco so we each had two). The tuna in the tacos was good, but the overall taco was just OK. The over abundant sauce drowned out the fish. That was the beginning of a trend for the evening. The red snapper maki roll was small (happy hour size) so no real bargain there. It was also our first taste of the rice used at the restaurant, not so good. That issue continued throughout the evening. We also started with a carafe of hot sake, which was tasty. We had several carafes throughout the evening! :-) We moved to the regular menu and ordered the hamachi carpaccio. The dish included the fresh hamachi, asian slaw, arugula, and sliced jalapeno. No sauce on this plate, so the fish was the star. Fresh and served at the right temperature. We ordered sashimi next: salmon, (more) hamachi, red snapper, and tuna. The fish was good, all tasted fresh. We moved on to specialty rolls next, and tried the Four Tuna and Don't Vessup rolls. Both rolls suffered from the rice deficiency noted above. The seemed old, a bit dried out, and simply not the quality one would expect at a top-notch sushi place. Both rolls also suffered from the over-abundance of spicy aioli sauce. Not sure why sushi places do that... the good ones don't. Service was OK, not great. The sushi chefs were responsive, but our waitress (who we think was new) was pretty slow. For the prices charged, we expected much better-quality food. Raw missed the mark on quality and available fish. With so many dining options in the area, we won't be back.
Pretty good food - sushi was tasty and came out quick, however, service was awful... Never received our side of spicy mayo or refills on water. Unfortunate.
The manager was the rudest person on the island. We were told a 45 minute wait. We walked around for 15 minutes and came back and the manager told us the wait changed to 1.5 hours. When we questioned how the wait doubled when our name was on the list already, he smirked and said that’s the way it works on the island. When we asked to speak to the person who took our name and told us 45 minutes he told us we would need to leave and come back the next day. We will absolutely NEVER come back to this restaurant. What a terrible experience.
The service was absolutely horrible! We waited for over 20 minutes just to get our ticket. The manager was very friendly and understanding when my husband ordered the wrong thing, but our server was short, unpersonable, and acted like we weren’t even there. Didn’t want to get us change for $100, she acted as if we were inconveniencing her. The sushi was decent, but because of the service I would not recommend this place to anyone. Super disappointing because I waited my whole trip to come here!
My friend and I had to WALK OUT tonight before we even ordered because the hostess/ waitress made it clear through her words, attitude and actions that we were NOT welcomed there. She took a long time to wipe down a table, gave me attitude when I approached it, and my friend had to ASK for a menu after about 10 minutes. We didn’t even get water! I understand it seems like this restaurant is understaffed, but this is no reason to act towards paying customers like this. After this encounter, we opted to give our business to a more deserving place.
