Amazing place to visit! It's my 2nd time, and all I can say is that the food is delicious, the service is EXCELLENT, and the atmosphere is welcoming and makes you feel at home. I will keep going back every time I drive by Zapata.

Great place to get great delicious food. They also serve the best coffee in town. The owner is very friendly and is always asking "todo bien" is everything okay. A shout out to the entire staff that every time I go they treat us very nice. I want to say thank you for that.

Zapata, Texas......didn't expect to find such a nice restaurant. Sorry Zapata, Walking through the impressive double doors led into a well decorated, clean South Texas style home,...but it was a restaurant. Beautiful grey tiled "wood" floors gave it a Western style. Warm lighting and a permanent Manger scene gave the atmosphere a very "homey" feel. Great menu with lots of choices, but I was instructed to try the steak plate complete with a ground beef crispy taco, cheese enchilada, rice, beans and two chicken fried steaks covered in white gravy amd yellow cheese! To top it off....a large scoop of aguacate! Delicious. Every bite was great however, I had heard that there was a battle for the title of best chicken fried steak between a few Zapata restaurants and having tried the chicken fried steak at El Paraiso....I personally liked El Paraiso's steak better. Other than that this place shined. The service was extremely attentive despite the lunch rush and they were genuinely friendly, not the fake friendly you get at some restaurants. Tons of great parking too. Now i like to put the restroom in my reviews. If the restrooms are clean and smell good my meal feels so much better and makes me feel like the kitchen is probably clean too. The restrooms were beautiful and clean. Soap in every dispenser and all the hand dryers worked. Paper towels for drying so you have a rag to open the door is important too!

The food was ok, I ordered a parillada plate and you can taste the the pan or black stone it was cooked on. I guess when you eat carne asada, everyone is use to Mesquite wood especially if you are from South Texas. I will definitely go back to eat there because I have gone before and all the other plates I have eaten taste perfect. The service was great, and the waitresses would make sure you weren't missing anything. Really enjoyed lunch with my parents.

Was driving thru Zapata on the way to Brownsville. OMG what a amazing experience. After traveling around Texas, I had one of the best Steak and Shrimp I ever had. I highly recommend this place. Enjoy. Thank you Ashley the bartender for the excellent customer service and the amazing music videos.

Sunday it was packed service took a while, but worth the wait. I'm a big meat eater and i was nervous ordering the fajitas plate and 2/3 of the plate was meat, everything was tasty, the spices on the meat was perfect, they even asked to refill our drinks to go.

Just a great place for a great meal. They take pride in their offerings. God has smiled down upon this business.

And Family favorite for any occasion. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Anything on the menu is going to be delicious. Great service from all the staff both front of the house and back.

The food is good depending on what you get.. I've already had a few bad experiences with one of the servers from here, but other than that, it's good.

Good food takes time. The meal was delicious and a super good portion size. I had enough left over for my lunch the next day. Again...don't go if you are in a rush. These guys take their time and make it extra delicious.

You can sit 4 people to a table, but you can not comfortably fit 4 servings plus sides plus drinks plus salt pepper sugar packet bowl napkins and everything else that gets cluttered on the table. The place is beautiful and elegant. There's this guy asking everyone if they are doing ok or if they need anything else besides the waitresses, which are also very helpful. I'm guessing he's the owner or manager.

I had the chicken fried steak with cheese and gravy. I know I know... I thought the same thing. That did not sound good to me at all. But I had to try it to see for myself and I have to tell you it was a great experience. You've had the old chicken fried steak before but the cheese changes everything!!!! It's a totally different dish. The place was great. A large building with tables in the middle. The bar looked cool too but it was closed. The staff is very friendly. And the price point is not bad. The only bad thing is that I have to travel an 1 and half to have this dish. If it were closer I'd go all the time- but in my case I'm going to have to make an every once in a while kinda trip. Over all a great place.loved it!!!!

Visited several times; tried their various steak cuts. I do like being served a cup of soup in addition to the chips & salsa every visit. The staff is very nice; just go ahead and seat yourself when arriving. I see myself continuing to visit and going through the rest of their menu, but I do have to critique their steak. The cuts seems large, but for as think as their cross section is, they seem to be cooking them at lower heat, for a longer amount of time. Even on a Medium-Rare, I would expect more of a char or grill, along with a variation of the cooked state of the meat in the cut. Medium-Rare here is really Medium. My expectations of a steakhouse are seasoning I can identify them by, and either flame or good grilling on the steak done at high heats -as in "Browning," where the Maillard Reaction is taking place in the cut, transforming the amino acids and sugar in the meat to wonderful flavors. Did I get a good value for my money; yes you get a lot of food -but I'm willing to pay more for a higher quality product. I would encourage The Steak House to realize their potential and go crazy on seasoning their cuts heavier than they are now and upping the intensity on the cooking heat. They have one of the bigger lots in the city, and the dining room is certainly up there in comparison to the other Zapata restaurants. This would definitely be a place I'd bring visiting family over to if the appetite leaned towards beef for the next meal.

Great parking and good food. Just menu prices are not current with what they charge you. Expect to pay about $8-$10 more than menu prices. Menu price Two cheese burgers $4.99 each, tea$1.79 fountain drink $1.79 and1 French fry order $2.99 register charged $25.69. and waitress was very nice tipped her generously not her fault.

Formerly one of my favorite destinations. Our motorcycle group called ahead, to lunch here. For the second time, with the same group, I was the last person served, as most were finished eating. My order was a simple steak sandwich and fries. Several with chicken fried steak or chicken, were done eating. My meal was good, but not great. The menu price for my meal was $6.48. the check total was $11.97, with $1.71 gratuity, $.78 tax. The $3.00 was explained away by a tiny note on the front of the menu, advising of price increases. Increases are understandable, gouging is not!

Food was brought out at different intervals for our party of 7. 1st out was finished while others were still waiting on their plates! Fish plate a-la-Mexicana was under cooked. Rating only applies to this visit.

I came back because I was craving breakfast for lunch. It takes a good 45 minutes to get your food. The carne guisada was not good. The chicken fried steak and Campechana were good. Great service, but I won't be coming back because of the long wait.

I've heard nothing but good things about this place, but my experience was anything but. We were seated at a dirty table, and they took about 5 minutes to come clean it. They got our drink order quickly, but the drinks took about another 10 minutes. Then came the chips, without the salsa. Our order took about 45 minutes. I ordered cilantro chicken. The cilantro "sauce" was clumpy and not fluid at all. Though the menu says you get two sides with platters, don't be fooled. My dad ordered chopped hamburger steak with a salad and fries. The "salad" was a few shreds of lettuce with a slice of tomato.

Ok service. Food was very mediocre. Bar area was very dirty. I don’t plan on going again.

Ambiance and wait staff were good but the food needs help! Bland food, poor cuts of steak, under seasoned and over cooked shrimp tacos the most seasoning I had was lemon. If they can get the kitchen on point this place would rock.

If you're looking for a good steak, keep going. Our ribeyes were tough and gristly. So much so that the waitress took one of them off the bill. We were really disappointed in the food.

Horrible service in this place, waitress didn’t take our order correct, or kitchen didn’t read order correctly. Ordered a chicken fried steak with no cheese on the gravy and got cheese on my gravy. My husbands steak was a little over cooked , fries were under cooked. And the most unbelievable part is , the $10.99 I paid for a 12oz margarita that was blended in a regular blender and was more crushed iced then anything. Don’t let the name fool you it’s not a steak house but a Mexican food place. Food was Totally not worth the money we spent in this place for just two or us. If I could give zero stars I would.

I order a machacado plate to go. It was so over cooked and scrambled eggs was so dried out I also order hash browns too and they were pure grease. My wife got the western omelette it was full of running water that the paper plate collapsed. The refried beans had no flavor and hash browns pure grease. Toast was burnt. This is my 2 time eating their. I will never go back. I highly DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

They have false advertising on the menu. They charge way more than advertised. Only the manager knows the prices and the waitresses don't. I got the 12oz ribeye stake for $12.99 and got charged $17.99. I paid the bill and gave the waitress a $20.00 tip. I was back in McAllen when I went over the ticket. We stopped to eat their two weeks later, and they had the same menu. So we asked the manager about the prices. He advised us that they have changed the prices about three times but not the menus. We go to Zapata twice a week. We will be changing restaurants.

Waited an hour for our food. Ribeye was not cooked how I asked for it. Got charged for an 18 oz steak when I asked for the 14 oz. All the server told me was the price on the menu was wrong. Then correct the damn prices!

If I could a zero star service I would, only have been there twice and the 2 times it’s has been an issue first time I went to pick up 4 orders for me and my coworkers they didn’t put any utensils or sauces for our food which was soup on the side, this morning I went for a breakfast platter got my eggs very over hard done plate was all plain there menu says it comes with salsa ranchera on top but there was non plus the 2 times they overcharged their menu said one price & they charged another … false advertising at its best let’s not forget about the food quality …
