The outside appeared pretty rustic, and the inside equally casual, but the food was top notch! I had a delicious cheesy potato soup and my husband an elegant and delicious hamburger and a side salad with blueberries and fresh strawberries. On top of that, the draft beer was a superb porter from a brewery in Bishop. And the service was also excellent.
The cream of the crop, the hidden gem, the gold standard, whatever you want to call it- this place is the best. The chef blows your mind every time. Don’t be worried about what to get the options are simple and you cannot go wrong. I had a ribeye and the date dessert 10/10. Thank you for letting us enjoy such incredible food in the middle of nowhere. This place is a blessing to the universe. The last photo is old but I’ve been coming here 10+ years and have never had a bad meal.
Very nice small business, to go and give some love and recieve back. I ordered the 6oz steak. Came out on time and as ordered. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Mash potatos and vegatables was great. Very artistic atmosphere. I will make it a regular stop when I visit Nevada!
I got the 1 lb ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. One of the best steaks I have ever had.
Outstanding gourmet steak dinners and in one of the most unlikely places you'll ever find. Pricey for sure but absolutely worth every penny and tastier than a lot of high end restaurants I've dined at in Vegas or anywhere really. You should be warned that the ribeye is enormous and if you can find the room in your stomach, the 5 course meal is the way to go. If you can only handle a smaller meal, get the 6oz filet as it's more reasonably sized and something most people can finish. The date cake is a must for desert too. I should note that they did move to a bigger location by the hot springs (this as opposed to the old cabin and deck on the edge of town they got started in) and that does make it easier to come with friends. Of course, it still has the same kitchy feel and that's a big part of what makes this place so much fun. I highly recommend this place for anyone coming to the hot springs or even to Death Valley.
the best steak and mashed potatoes I ever had. My picture doesn't do Justice to this delicious meal. Please make reservations before you come to this place they get really busy.
This is a gem! Incredible how they can prepare such delicious food that can compete with high-end restaurants. Highly recommended and save space for the tasty date cake ! Super welcoming staff and cozy atmosphere too.
We love this restaurant, it is a gem! We love the breakfast and dinner. The steaks are better than Las Vegas' steakhouses. The date dessert, the veggie omelet... The chef personally welcomed us when we returned, we felt like family. We look forward to returning.
This is truly one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Not only was the food delicious (we opted for the 5-course meal for $110), the ambiance and people we met were really what made the visit so spectacular. To start, the food: the first course was a cheese and fruit tray. 2 types of gourmet cheese, a log of goat cheese rolled in a blueberry compote, grapes, strawberries & apple slices in a spiced cinnamon and apricot sauce with toasted pieces of bread for dipping. Then came their Orchard Salad, which was mixed greens with blueberries, strawberries, thinly sliced onion and a vinaigrette dressing. Next came from-scratch tomato soup made with real cream (they even brought my boyfriend some amazing potato soup as he couldn’t have the tomato soup). The main course we had selected was a 6-oz. filet mignon and came with delicious mashed potatoes and spiced root vegetables. But the dessert was the killer: date cake with a date sauce a la mode from the China Date Ranch Farm. Now for the people and experience. At the next table over, there was a couple visiting from France; a retired police officer and his wife. We started talking to them and my boyfriend found he had been stationed in the Army near where they were from. There was another couple who is from Vegas and owns property in the area to do yoga retreats and they also joined in on the party. As we all stayed till after closing time, the cook came out and sat down with all of us, along with a couple of guys who normally work there but were off and had come in for drinks. The French couple ended up purchasing a bottle of wine to share with everyone and we all sat around after closing visiting and toasting each other over some excellent Pinot Noir our new French friends purchased for everyone. What an unforgettable, epic experience in a tiny little desert restaurant with gourmet food!

We absolutely love coming to this place. The staff are incredible and friendly and the food is better than a fancy Vegas restaurant. It’s obvious that the chef and his crew take pride in what they do. There’s even breakfast which is next to impossible to find in Tecopa. And it’s delicious 💖 Sorry about the half eaten breakfast. We thought to take pictures after we’d eaten it 🤦🏽♀️ Do go! You won’t regret it!
Definitely a place to make a destination to!! I’ve been here 8 times and every time has been on point. The filet (med-rare) is outstanding. This guy knows how to cook a steak. The date cake is awesome! Casual, relaxed atmosphere with 5 star food. Small specialized menu. Definition make a reservation, it has limited seating.
Tiny little hole in the wall. The menu didn't have a lot of variety but this is one of those places where you get what you get. The mixed veggies were whatever they felt like cooking and they were delicious. The steak, potatoes, soup and blueberry cheesecake were also delicious. If you're going, make reservations because it's very small and popular.
This chef here is a genius (though he seems uninterested in praise) and his food is amazing. I went in not knowing what to expect, and ended up having the most amazing dining experience I have had in a decade, easily. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the side dishes were gourmet excellence all the way. I left wishing I knew more about the story of the place and the people/person running it, solid in my impression that if Bourdain was still with us this would be a highlight regular hangout for him. The dining area is small... about a half-dozen tables. It is nearly impossible to get in without a reservation on most nights (it's a hidden diamond, and the locals know it). But worth every second of wait time, every bite, and every cent. I only wish I lived closer, so I could eat here again, and again, and again. If you are in the area, you must eat here. But call ahead for reservations. It's completely worth it.
I’ve eaten here around ten or so times over the last few years. It’s a small, quaint little spot. Definitely make a reservation, you probably won’t get in otherwise. It’s one guy who takes your order, cooks the food, processes the payment, etc. Every single thing from a to z. I’ve seen a few complaints about the “customer service” and it’s ridiculous. It’s a one man show, he doesn’t have time to have a bubbly conversation with every single person that walks in the door, half the time he’s in the kitchen when people walk in and it’s pretty hard to hear anything over the ventilation system I would guess. He can’t exactly pause to walk out front and deal with a bunch of questions in the middle of cooking food for 20 some people. Don’t be deterred by those complaints. He’s a perfectly polite guy. The menu is small and concise which I would expect in a restaurant with only six tables. The chef knows his strengths and makes sure to not spread himself too thin. There are no descriptors on the menu, so if you’re a picky eater ask questions ahead of time. However, I would suggest eating everything exactly how he prepares it. It tastes well thought out and everything compliments each other. This is absolutely the best steak I have ever had and every year when I return, it’s as good as I remember. If you’re wanting a five star Michelin dining experience where continually pampered and coddled, don’t come to a tiny restaurant in tecopa. If you want a unique dining experience in a quirky little town with some of the best food you’ve ever had, this is the place for you.
Got the 5 course pre fix menu. The fruit and cheese plate was crazy. Wasn't sure I ever enjoyed sweet fruit with the texture and flavors of cheese like that before in my life. So good. Then the orchard salad. The greens and the berries and apple were great mix of flavors and textures, but that is the second best vinaigrette that I have had in my life. I am 51. It was delicious. Then came the cream of potato soup. While maybe a little underwhelming visually, the experience when it hit my mouth was like a chemical reaction. I don't even like soup. But I LOVED this soup. After I calmed down a bit, out came the 16 oz ribeye that I shared with my beautiful girlfriend. This thing was prepared perfectly and coated in a balsamic glaze which I hadn't had before but PERFECTLY complimented it. Didn't overwhelm it or distract from the beef at all. The mashed potatoes and root style veggies were outstanding, both in texture and flavors. Was pretty full at this point and we actually saved half of the main entree for breakfast the next day, was a great portion for something so good. Last course was a blueberry cheesecake that was liking eating blueberry butter. Heavenly. I dont even like cheesecake typically, but again I LOVED this. Best meal in a few years. Total adventure for my mouth. Thank you.
Went to the hot spring to skinny dip. someone told me there was a good steak in town so had to try it out. I wasn't expecting a lot by the looks of the place. I had no idea I would get that good of a steak in tecopa! it was amazing! As was the potatoes. I end up having a nice couple join me, they were super nice and we had good convos with them. They came from LA to enjoy the quaint little town and hot water.A+++++

If you are visiting in the Tecopa/Shoshone area, this is a great steakhouse. It’s highly recommended you make reservations it is a very small venue with limited seating. I have missed the opportunity to dine here just trying to walk in… Calling ahead is best. It is within walking distance of some of the hot springs resorts. If you’re passing through on the way to Death Valley, it’s off the main highway but well worth making the effort to discover. Expect small-town service. Tecopa is laid back and friendly. The food is excellent.
Nice place and one of the only places around for a long ways to stop for a bite to eat. I highly recommend a reservation. There are only 5 tables inside, and the bar. There were tables outside but only indoor seating available for dinner. My friend and I each ordered a burger, mashed potatoes, a salad, one beer and two waters. I ordered my burger well done and my friend ordered medium well. Both burgers arrived well done. He was not very happy with his dry burger and when brought to their attention- no compensation was offered. I think for $22 a burger, they could have offered to remake it or comp his beer at least. For me, the food was decent. The salad was delicious. I appreciated the seasoning- but way too salty for me. I believe the bill was $70 plus. There's an RV/ hotel hot springs next door that I will definitely be visiting if I ever return to the area.
When visiting S&B, one has to remember that Tecopa is a small town and it costs more to supply restaurants and bars, etc. so the prices are a bit higher than in Las Vegas, but if the establishment serves you great food then it's worth it. S&B has limited seating, but it's a small place and to offer more seating would just overburden the kitchen and the food quality would suffer. We had a terrific meal here and it's nice to find a place in a remote area that serves better food than they have to given that they're one of the few restaurants in town. The owner was great, but the waiter could have benefited from a course or two at a charm school, but he was efficient nonetheless. My only suggestion would be to offer fries with the burger instead of mashed potatoes. If you visit S&B, don't pass up the date bread dessert. It's incredible.

Wonderful little out of the way eatery that provides a limited menu as stated in the name of establishment. My wife ordered the Orchard salad with steak and she was very pleased with this item. I ordered the 16 oz Ribeye that was cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that the steak was drizzled with a sauce, similar to A1 that impacted the taste of steak. No previous warning was given regarding standard application of sauce and when questioned, the reply given was it helps with the breakdown of acids and assist in digestion. Honestly, I have consumed many a steak, especially ribeyes and I never needed the assistance. In my opinion, condiments should be applied by the consumer, so heads up to anyone who agrees.

Just happened to wander in here last night... We were the only table when we ordered, took 40 min for our ribeye steaks to be cooked. They were cooked to the absolute PERFECT temperature as requested. The sauce was absolutely HORRIBLE, it was a vinaigrette type which in no way complimented the steak and kind of ruined it. If you go here do yourself a huge favor and get the sauce on the side, had I known this it would have made the steak 1000x better! The mashed potatoes and vegetable medley were delicious.
