Incredible food, impeccable service and felt the staff were so friendly and made us feel really special. Credit to the staff, they were absolutely lovely and made our lunch so special.
This was a VERY special dinner with the family while we were traveling to Lake Como and celebrating 20 years of marriage. I can’t say enough great things! We were a party of 5 and I give them a 5/5 (I’d actually say 6!) For our Food: The Apps- fresh bruschetta with fresh burrata; zucchini with ricotta; spinach salad with some delicious soft cheese. The Entrees: Spaghetti carbonara; lasagna; ravioli with lamb and a delicious pea sauce; and the BIG winner- my veal ossobuco alla Milanese. (This was probably the best Veal ossobuco I’ve ever had!!!) Desserts: a most wonderful chocolate mousse with chocolate gelato; a vanilla soufflé with cherries and a chocolate sauce and vanilla sauce; and a tiramisu, prepared right at the table side. Everything was delicious! The service was outstanding. The view and ambiance even more spectacular. While this had been our most expensive meal on this trip (and on many of our trips) it was truly an experience. Worth doing if you want something special and memorable. They normally have a live musician, but they were not there the night we ate. We were, however, treated to the most wonderful play list (my wife and I loved every song- it took us back to our early times of marriage when we listened to the Pottery Barn dinner collection CDs.. while we would cook and eat. They were kind enough to share the playlist with us, Sotto Fondo Restorante.) Bravo all around!
Easily the best meal we had in Como during our week stay. It is expensive, but that should not surprise anyone given the menu is available online and restaurants in 5* hotels are almost always pricey. The staff was very accommodating to our bambini. One of few places that offers a burger and fries - a welcome change for our kids (9 and 7) after many meals of pizza/pasta. My wife and I shared foie gras (great), radicchio flan (unique and shockingly good), maccheroni (great tomato sauce), cacio pepe (fun table side prep and also great) and split a ribeye. Cannot say enough about the ribeye. We have eaten a numerous 3* Michelin restaurants, many of the top steakhouses in America, and this ribeye is, not exaggerating, the best steak either of us have had. It is thin cut, compared to American steaks, so do not go anything past medium rare. Wines, champagne and desserts all wonderful. We ate at 7:00pm, when the restaurant opens, service was prompt and very friendly.
Had a great night at l’escale, it pitches itself to be a more “approachable” option vs the hotel’s signature restaurant “LA TERRAZZA GUALTIERO MARCHESI” with crowd favourite traditional Italian dishes such as steak Fiorentina and spaghetti carbonara but in an elegant high end setting. However don’t expect to pay bistro prices. A glass of wine will set you back 30 euro plus and look to spend at least 100 euro per person in food. But if you’re prepared for the price tag it’s well worth it. The service was attentive with a dash of over the top humour (we ordered the tiramisu that was prepared at the table and our waiter “confessed” that he was looking forward to the dessert more than we were) The atmosphere was bustling yet also managed to feel intimate, we were sat inside and were greeted with a modern yet personality full decor with many interesting elements as potential conversation starters. The indoor part of the restaurant is a perfect date location, it seemed that in this section the majority clientele were couples with several sat side by side as opposed to the traditional opposite. My only minor criticism was that even though we were sat inside it was slightly on the cold side so would say this is more of a summer place for those sensitive to lower than average temperature (we came in April). Last but not least was the food, and this did not disappoint. We ordered several dishes and surprisingly the standouts were the more traditional options where we found they were able to execute elevated versions of dishes we’d had before with a twist. The beef tartare for example was made at the table, broken down ingredient by ingredient, and served with raspberries, a well thought together addition which broke through the meatiness perfectly. Am glad we didn’t look at the reviews before coming as it may have persuaded us to not come. This is an amazing restaurant! Bottom line is L’Escale is an experience as opposed to somewhere where you just go to “get full”. Perhaps they could have one or two cheaper wine options, perhaps they could charge a slightly lower markup for food but the counter to this is for those who are looking for good value for money food and wine can definitely find better value options elsewhere in the region. However if you’re looking for a truly memorable time, amazing food and wine, and fantastic service all in a majestic yet approachable setting then look no further.
food was amazing, great service and knowledgeable about everything on menu which is good, really great views
Absolutely incredible food and amazing service from Samuel. A first class dining experience we will remember forever!
Amazing meal, best among the ones we’ve had anywhere else on the lake. The pastas were to die for. Pietro was our server, even then absolutely top notch!
Good food, good portions, friendly staff members and good service. We enjoyed the table side presentations as well.
Fenomenali pure i dolci.
A decadent delicious meal in a wonderful setting. Shaded and comfortable with friendly warm staff. Best chocolate mousse we have ever tasted. Not to be missed. Pasta was also incredible. Grazie!!
We had an awesome night on our Honeymoon at L’Escale and a delicious dinner! Our waiters Samuel and Edoardo made our night so special and we feel like they are long time friends! Will absolutely come back!
Super attentive staff. Food was fantastic. Atmosphere overlooking Lake Como was 10/10.
Such a disappointment! Used to hotel guests with undiscerning palates and no care for money perhaps? Terrific location and view. Food ok, but so many better and fantastic options nearby. Sommelier tried to recommend a 300€ wine straight away. Seriously?! Tiramisu made at your table! A gimmick and insult to the Italian tradition. Service incredibly slow, and it wasn’t busy. Avoid if you don’t like to waste a meal. Go to Belle Ile or La Fagurida for real Italian gastronomy. Unfortunately not the quality of food and service when it first opened.
We had dinner at l’escale tonight, and honestly, it was very underwhelming. The pasta was way too salty (and overcooked), the “cacio e Pepe ” had nothing cacio e Pepe about it. Just...cacio e salty Service was really kind though and friendly, no complaints there — but the wait was super long, and the food didn’t live up to the 5-star setting at all. More like a casual brasserie in France. Wouldn’t recommend. At all if you want a fancy special night.
I hate to write bad reviews, but I feel I need to warn people about this place. I do not mind paying a lot for a quality meal but this however was far from good or even decent quality, absurdly small portions, and insanely priced. The meatballs were so dry they were hardly even edible. The service was decent and servers were pleasant however a bit slow. To top it all off we were seated next to a family that was wildly inappropriate, loud, and vulgar throughout the entire meal, adding more to such an off putting experience. They should have been asked by the restaurant to stop it was disruptive to everyone else’s dining experience. I truly cannot believe we paid as much as we did for this almost comically terrible meal. Again I do want to say that the servers were lovely people but it’s so sad that such a nice hotel has such an awful restaurant. The view was the only saving grace, it was amazing but could not compensate for the rest of the nightmarish experience we had here.
3 polpette? Dessert grande come un pasticcino mignon. 3. Prezzi esagerati. 50 euro a piatto.
Over priced, indisputably terrible service with bland, small portioned food. Not a very busy restaurant with very little atmosphere. It does have a very nice view but if you’re staying at the hotel you have that view anywhere you go. So it’s not unique to the restaurant. Be prepared to wait an hour between each of your courses and sit with empty drinks for 45 minutes or more. I was served 4 flavorless meatballs with a carbonara that tasted like the lid of the salt shaker fell off, paired with a couple glasses of wine, for $300. Not sure how a hotel of this caliber can allow for a restaurant to operate like this. We left most of our food, paid our bill and left. Horrible experience
Wonderful service and incredible views. Awful food. There was not a single thing we ate that was even remotely decent. It is incredible to me that at such a lovely venue and hotel with such amazing views that they could find this food even remotely acceptable. I feel bad saying that (but even the servers were apologizing to us and acknowledged the food was not great). At least they were honest.
The food is mediocre at best and overpriced. For the most part the waitstaff were rude and unhelpful. Particularly the young man with curly hair, very off putting. The only thing this place has going for it is the view which they clearly rely on.
