We had our Thanksgiving dinner at Russell’s Restaurant in Vail, and all I can say is WOW — what an incredible experience. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Our waiter, Mr. Waslyhe, was absolutely amazing. He took such great care of our table, recommended a few dishes, and every single one of them was outstanding. The meat literally melted in your mouth, and the duck was on another level — rich, flavorful, and unforgettable. The restaurant itself feels cozy, warm, and welcoming, with a comfortable atmosphere that makes you enjoy every minute of your meal. The entire staff was professional, friendly, and attentive. It was a beautiful, grateful Thanksgiving dinner, and I truly appreciate the service we received. I will definitely come back every time I pass through Vail, Colorado — just to sit, relax, and enjoy the amazing food again. Highly recommended!
What an absolutely phenomenal experience. They took us as a walk-in table for 2 at prime dinner hour. I thought they would give us a 2 hour wait but they incredibly graciously found us a remarkable table with the sweetest view of the creek. The was precursor to the incredibly hospitable and warm service we received all evening. For the food, the Bernaise sauce that came with my 8oz filet was a particular highlight. My friend got the trout and said it was excellent. I look forward to making this place a Vail tradition!
Celebrated our daughter’s surprise engagement here during our trip to Vail. The entire team went above and beyond to make the evening special for all.
Nice steakhouse, my kids loved this place. The steak was really good. You can find bison and venison. Fun thing is that you can buy a round of beers for the kitchen staff. I don’t think is 100% for kids I think more for couples or friends. But it was great.
Never had a Bison Ribeye before but YUM! 10/10 would recommend! Food, service, atmosphere…. A+
The new lunch menu is incredibly delicious! Tried the Caesar salad and chicken schwarma, so many flavors. I’ll be back to try more! Hands down the best steakhouse in Vail. The apps are amazing too.
Our entire group of 10 didn't leave a trace on their plates! That speaks volumes. Very gluten free friendly too. The steak was cooked to perfection and scalloped potato stacks so cheese. Great presentation too. My lids still say it was the best dinner ever.
We surprisingly got sat right away, which was great but a bit concerning, especially on valentines day. The music was vibes, mostly 70s 80s hits. I got the french onion soup to start, which made my tastebuds so happy it was delish. Next I got the cowboy ribeye, with sides of brussel sprouts, au gratin potatoes, and mac n cheese. All were fire. I would recommend this place to my father-in-law. W
The perfect ending to my short getaway to Vail! I had the lamb for the main course and French Onion Soup as a starter. Everything was well seasoned and delicious! The service was also great!
we have been to Russell's several times over several years! we love this place and stop in every time we are in town! the best ctab legs.... even in the mountains!! we have seen the same cooks and servers over the years and highly recommend this place!! see you soon!! thanks!!
A friend and I came out to Vail for the night to ski in the morning. He suggested we go to Russell's for a great meal. I was so glad he suggested this. The experience starts when you walk in by the covered bridge, you're greeted by a cool guy that matches the vibe of the restaurant, and our waitress was incredibly nice. Drinks were great, filet with bearnaise and the stacked scalloped potatoes with broccoli were excellent. The filet was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Looking forward to taking my wife here and hopefully stopping in most times I come to Vail. Thank you!
Overall great food and service, but steep prices. 7 dollars for hard bread with some butter was not a great start. The winter squash soup was very creamy and heartwarming, just a tad bland. The duck pot pie was very flavorful. The NY strip was pretty good, but a small portion for $57. The gratin potatoes were delicious. We sat at the bar, where we didn't have a whole lot of space. Our waitress (the bartender) was very attentive even though she was extremely busy. We spent $212.25 for three people after tax before tip.
The service was fantastic, the steaks were great. I ordered a half rack of ribs and my wife ordered a steak. The glaze on the ribs were a bit burnt but it did fall off the bone as advertised. The scallops were ok. True to their main menu item, the steaks were perfection. Overall great experience, but do order steaks since it is a steakhouse.
Lucky to score a table during Sunday night where every restaurant in Vail village was full and booked out. Onion soup was slightly diluted and could use more seasoning, cheese was delicious and overall comforting soup. Caesar salad and bone-in rib eye was good, but nothing impressive. Schnitzel was the star of the night!
We had a very nice dinner at Russell's during Christmas holidays. Excellent service and atmosphere. Although we were a bit disappointed on the food. The onion soup was cold when served and the ribs were very dry and hard to eat. The ribeye and the desert was very good.
We’ve been frequent customers here (usually stopping in at least once a month after work) and have always had a great experience, which is why our most recent visit was surprising. We ordered our steaks medium rare, but they arrived dry and closer to well done with hardly any pink in the middle. When we mentioned this, the explanation given was that the sunlight from our window seat was making the steaks appear well done. That was frustrating to hear, as the doneness was very clear in both look and texture. Our server was wonderful and had the steaks remade, but the manager’s comment that they would probably come out the same because of the sunlight was disappointing. We nearly always sit in that same spot, and this has never been an issue before. We still love this restaurant and hope this was just an off night. A little more accountability when mistakes happen would go a long way, as we’d love to keep enjoying the great food and service we’ve come to know here.
Came to Vail for a weekend getaway with my fiancé. We stopped at Russel’s for a good steak dinner. Everything was great other than the service. Had a blonde, tall, older woman. She charged us for bread that we ordered and never got. She came to the table to check and we had empty drinks - we had to ask when she came back for a refill. By the time the check came, never apologized for the bread nor offered to let us take it home. She also didn’t give us an update on desserts so the dessert my fiancé wanted was out. Lastly, she didn’t give us any silverware with our to go food. If I am spending $100+ per person for food and with the bill being over $250 without tip - I expect exceptional service. Probably won’t be back.
Staying at the Grand Hyatt, we took a bus to the Village . Russel’s was recommended . We did not have a reservation , the restaurant looked to be at 1/2 capacity. Due to our lack of reservations , we were offered a table at the entrance . Everyone who came though the door , let in a burst of freezing cold air . The bar was steps away and the front door opened frequently . Our waiter must have had a section in another part of the restaurant and we were a pick up table. The waiter was distracted inattentive and slow. My son ordered a steak, I ordered a German dish, pork schnitzel. We also ordered the bread which was delicious. My dish , I could barely cut with a knife . The meat was so tough and fatty it was literally impossible to chew . I tried to let the waiter know, but it took him so long to come back my son was finished his steak. He offered to bring me a fresh plate , I accepted and the pork schnitzel I received was barely better than the first one. Just a horrible cut of meat. We had to wait for our check, then the waiter ran my card for someone else’s tab. Good thing I caught it. He corrected the mistake, but we had to wait another 10-15 min. Freezing at the entrance , in our prized seating . Lol. Russel’s mailed it in and was completely overpriced for what we received . One beer, one soda, a basket of bread, and two dinners. Son said the steak was good. Our bill for 2 people with tip was 182.00.
The food was overpriced for the quality. When ordering a steak, they don’t allow substitutions for the potato or broccoli sides, which was disappointing. The dishes came out quickly, but the overall experience didn’t match what I expect from a higher-priced restaurant
The waitstaff are incredible. The food - not so much. I have never been to a steakhouse that slathers their steaks in some sort of gravy without asking. The vegetables were not edible. Ended up eating the potatoes that came with the meal (vegetables come with the main entree but it is not mentioned on the menu so that you order side dishes - fyi) Really expensive. Really not worth it.
