Delicious tasting authentic Mexican food family owned and ran. Very cozy and authentic inside feels like you are somewhere deep in Mexico. A little on the pricey side for Mexican food but definitely worth it.
So good! Food is delicious, and they make the guacamole table side, very old school. Great margaritas. Classic vibe. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the city !
Me and my girl got the most amazing service since the moment we walked into the restaurant we were greeted super fast and politely, seated quick and the food was spectacular! As an authentic Mexican I was amazed with our food! We ordered jalapeno poppers as an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious, and for our entree we ordered the rib eye and shrimp medium rare and everything was cooked to perfection. It's crazy how when we looked this place up online it only showed 4.3 stars but in reality they deserve 5 stars!! Sorry for not having pictures but our food was soo delicious that we forgot to take pictures. WILL BE OUR GO TO IN VENICE BEACH!!
I love the home made tortillas! This restaurant is perfect for entertaining. I take every out of town guest here as a causal laid back night out. The food and drinks are always on point and the staff is very attentive. If you come on a weekend evening expect a short wait. A++ place for eating out in Venice.
Always great service. Food is excellent and the menu is extensive. Atmosphere is perfect for an intimate dinner and can accommodate family affairs. The staff makes it happen. The owners are French trained chef's. The quality of the food is top notch. The service is fast and attentive. Between my girlfriend and I, we have been happy there for over 20 years. Oh the prices are very reasonable. Recommend this restaurant highly.
Forgot to take pictures of our food but it was delicious. My son ordered the Huevos Ranchero w/Rice n Beans and I ordered the two carnitas tacos w/Rice n Beans. I've been going to this establishment since I was a young kid with my folks. Now I get to experience it with my own child. Good times..
Those bad reviews are total BS. Total sabotage. This is the best authentic Mexican food in LA. Without a doubt. Also the best Margaritas, period. I've gone for years and the service has never been less than stellar. The food, perfect, fresh and very hot. We always look forward to returning. Home made tortillas. The best costs. If you can't afford them, don't go. (They are not expensive. The prices are more than reasonable for an upscale Mexican restaurant. Do not go by these obvious negatives, this place is fantastic. I may go tonight!
Wonderful restaurant in Venice, CA. Lincoln and Rose. La Cabana’s is amazing. Our waiter, Romero, was so kind and he dressed so elegantly. He made our visit so special. His associate Ramon was also fantastic. The food was delicious, atmosphere perfect. Thank you to all. PS Delicious Margaritas. Robbie
parking issue but everything else amazing 👏 🤩
I really like this restaurant. Great quality food at great prices. Their margaritas got me through Covid. I just placed an order online and accidentally placed it for pickup rather than delivery, and their manager Carlos was so kind and called me, helped me replace the order, gave me suggestions on what his favorite items on the menu are, etc. I was very impressed by the customer service and will definitely need to stop by and visit in person soon. Thank you Carlos and team!
No nonsense Mexican institution with hand made in house tortillas which are out of this world. Servers are friendly and efficient and the maitre D is a legend. Margaritas are so good you won’t even notice them slip down until you stand up. Casa Vega level good. Classic interior decor and cozy outdoor patio dining options available. Food is solid and they’ll seat you late with no bother which is perfect for my eclectic schedule. Terrific.
Great Service for late night 2am! I only had the Chorizo & eggs w/ a couple of handmade corn tortillas! Coffee was good & their table salsa & chips were too damn good! It was late so, we weren't expecting super-fast service, surprisingly our order was out in a timely manner! Thanks again gents for your service!
I loved the experience. Very professional staff but homey. Mexican classics with an upscale feel and twist. They have a bar and are open until 3am how awesome is that? I took a chance on it after looking for late night eats and I'm glad I did. Hubby and I found a new place to add to our favs.
I first went to La Cabana in back in the early 90s, when my friend Vince introduced me to all the cool La restaurants he had been to over the course of his growing up in this fine City. I hadn't been there in over 10 years, and yet I felt like I'd returned home. What a wonderful place, great food, great service, and they even accommodated my large party at the last minute. The patio in the back is awesome, and even though it's a little chilly that night, they turned on the heater and that was fine. Great food, awesome salsa, great traditional feel. I'm guessing it was one of the original Beach restaurants in Venice
The food is excellent 👌 and delicious, fresh and good proportions..customer service is very friendly.
All Man, The service here is exceptional. This place has literally been here my whole life, and has always been a place for great food and Love.
Absolutely love this place. Okay … it’s not a literal 5 star. But I have to give it the big 5 for all round wonderful experience. The service is impeccable. The food is delicious, cooked to perfection and fresh, fresh, fresh. I love the table side guacamole service. Soooo good! Festive ambience. Just go if you want excellent Mexican food!
Excellent guacamole cookies in front if you JUST for you, the special margarita is great, service is very nice and some of them are here for years. Very good night
A Masterclass in Service, Flavor, and Vibes! I had the pleasure of dining at La Cabaña in Venice, and I can honestly say this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in years. The food was amazing, but what made the night truly unforgettable was Jose Luis, our absolutely phenomenal waiter. As a pescatarian, eating out at traditional spots can be hit or miss, but Jose Luis? He was a one-man dream team. I didn’t even have to ask a single question. He immediately walked me through the menu, called out every hidden ingredient that could’ve been a problem, and offered swaps without hesitation. It was like he read my mind and cleared every roadblock before I even hit them. No second-guessing, no awkward back-and-forth, just straight-up expert-level hospitality. And the food? So good. I ordered the refried beans (which had NO lard 🙌🏽) and they were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had, creamy, flavorful, and perfect. I also had the cheese quesadilla, and I’m still thinking about how buttery and crispy it was on the outside with melty, delicious goodness inside. Simple, comforting, and done so, so right. To top it all off, I’m working on my Spanish, and Jose Luis didn’t just humor me, he encouraged me, gently corrected me, and made the entire interaction feel fun and empowering. He created such a warm, respectful vibe that made me feel welcomed, understood, and celebrated. Jose Luis is the gold standard of service. If you find yourself at La Cabaña, do everything in your power to sit in his section. He turns a meal into a memory. Gracias, Jose Luis! We will be back!
One of the bed Mexican Restaurants I’ve ever been to. Love the food, and the owner!! He makes you feel like you own the place. Awesome place to eat.
I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. This place is truly like dining with family everybody is so warm and friendly, I love it. The carne asada plate is 😋 and the warm hand made corn tortillas make for the best meal
I used to eat here regularly, when I lived a few miles away, so I had to stop by this weekend while in the area. The food is just as good as home cooked and the service is still as good as I remember. Great chips and salsa, margaritas have good quality tequila, and amazing beans and rice. Shrimp and crab enchiladas are a great choice and so is the barbacoa. You also can't go wrong with the regular staples like tacos and burritos.
My wife and I held our wedding rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks here. Carlos and Vicky did such an amazing job!! The staff was so attentive and everything was set up perfectly!! The food is great too. Would recommend for any event or just for a dinner!
We spent the day in Venice and were looking for a nice spot to eat some dinner. Let me tell you this place was so good we were a party of 12 6 adults six kids. It was our first time eating here and we were very satisfied. The waiters were very attentive before we could say we needed a refill they were bringing it. Food is authentic Mexican food and not Americanized which is what we wanted we ordered carnitas and barbacoa and Chile rellenos to the kids ordering cheeseburger taco dorados and taquitos plain. Definitely recommend and definitely will be again when we return to Venice. Which is like a 10 minute walk from the rose parking lot at the beach.
Wow, I love it 💖🖤, the food at least my nachos were really good and the serving was nice and big. I think more restaurants should be open space as this one was... u can see the night sky ✨ 🌃🌌... the decoration was so nice and customer service was great. And they don't charge you for chips and salsa... will be back again. Wish I took better and more photos. Cute little place
I'm not from California or southwest, so I may not be used to great Mexican food. But this is the best Mexican food I've had, made better with great surroundings. The inside of the place has decor like a Mexican mansion with great tilework and there's an oven making fresh tortillas right in front of you. Drinks are mostly different kinds of margaritas, but they have a few generic beers in bottles. The salsa dip for the tortilla chips was fairly hot; it was great but just a heads up. All the food was good but order the full plates to get a real taste of what they offer.
Been going here since I was a baby. 45 years later it's the same vibe and great food! Waiters are super friendly and kind to kids, portions are enormous and affordable, chips and salsa are endless, and tortillas and handmade and cooked over the fire. Great dinner!
One of my Go To favorites. Located on the corner er of Lincoln and Rose in Venice, CA. Great prices, great food and friendly Staff. AND Im always full when I leave with mt to go box! Courtyard seating in the rear also!!
On my Top 5 restaurants list for Authentic Mexican food,, I really like this restaurant,, Everything is delicious and the staff is super warm and welcoming 👍
Service was great!! Food was okay. The homemade tortillas were hot and fresh. And the chocolate cake was hard and dry. And the down side was the parking. They have no designated parking lots. We had to park across the busy street at a grocery store next to unhoused camps. Didn't feel too safe.
Came here for a private party in the patio area. The staff was AMAZING and very welcoming. The margaritas were sufficiently strong and tasty. The food was fresh and delicious. The decor was fun and there was even a live band that rotated throughout the restaurant. I really enjoyed my evening at La Cabana and would definitely come back again.
Absolutely cannot speak highly enough of this place. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in West Los Angeles Venice area Carnitas plate is excellent the fresh-made guacamole at your table is awesome and they make homemade hot corn tortillas a definite must go! All of the waiters are true professionals men that have been there for 10 20 or 30 years.
One of the best mexican restaurants I’ve been to! Such kind staff, attentive and quick service, very fresh food with quality ingredients (they make the tortillas fresh in front of you). The meat especially is great quality meat. Street parking but not too hard to find. Made a reservation in advance but may not be needed.
I love the food here. Hand made corn tortillas are the best. Salsa Picosa is delicious. Any dish with the shredded beef I love.
Haven't been to this place in like 20 years, food tastes just like it did back then. With hand made tortillas I would highly recommend for a chill dinner night.
I always bring visiting friends here to experience authentic Mexican dining. There’s a reason some staff members have been here for over 40 years..that really says something about the place. When you order, it’s like they telepathically send it to the kitchen. Your food arrives within minutes! The recent renovation is also gorgeous, adding to the charm without losing the original vibe. I can’t say enough good things about how amazing this place is.
I had a nice evening out with friends. I really enjoy this restaurant. The food is great, and the cocktails are fun and delicious. I really like how the weight staff remembers your name. I can’t wait to go back.
We absolutely love La Cabana! Located in the Bermuda triangle of tacos, this vibrant restaurant is the sister to its more Hollywood counterpart across the street, Casablanca. The restaurant offers booths, tables, and a big bar inside but I personally prefer the patio out back. Good salsa, awesome happy hour, and large portions, I definitely recommend La Cabana for a night out with friends. 🍻 Xx, H
While down here from Canada on vacation, my wife and I came here strictly because this was my father in-law's favorite restaurant in the 70's when he lived in Santa Monica! And boy did it ever impress. The service was attentive and the staff were friendly. We came at lunch time and we got two lunch specials for $12.75 each. I got the beef tacos and my wife got the chicken enchiladas. Both plates came with beans and rice. Both plates were very filling. There was also complimentary chips that came prior to our meal arriving. This restaurant has been around since the early sixties, and we can see why. Its also open until 3:00am for those who are hungry for a late night meal.
This place makes the most amazing handmade tortillas. Food is also very good but the tortillas are next level. Reasonably priced and a LA favorite. Been around for a long time. If you want some old school Mexican food, I'd recommend it.
We have been coming for years. I love the slow cooked meat plates. Carnitas, chili Colorado and chili verde are my favorites. The handmade tortillas are great too. I usually get a few meals out of one plate. Servers are always on top of everything. We usually find parking out front. They have an extensive quesadilla menu too
Parking is not good. But food is delicious. Ambiance is nice. Margaritas are impactful and tasty. Been going going here for years! Don't miss the papa's con chorizo quesadilla. And I like to add avocado. So good.
Food is good, service is great, drinks too. A chilled place to hang out. No parking, street parking only, but there's a valet, which I would of use anyway even if there was parking available. Over all a great place. Oh the table side handmade guacamole is great. Oh and the inhouse handmade tortillas are great too.
The building and neighborhood looks like they offer old school muggings and occasional drive by shootings, a place to experience Americana. We came here for Happy Hour tacos, which seems somewhat redundant (even merely the word tacos makes me happy). The food did not disappoint, it made me very happy. The place being empty we were offered a table inside or out. At first I thought they meant sitting on the curb. While I do enjoy street food, I chose a booth. It turns out, outside is this very lovely and secluded terrace decorated for a perpetual quinceañera. Very charming. The food was simple, yet delicious, the service thoughtful and attentive, and the ambiance welcoming (you to the 60s). I loved it.
This is a long-standing mainstay of the theatere artists who comprise venice's revered Pacific Resident Theatte. We love to gather there after performances. We're especially delighted that they've gone back to late hours on Fridays and Saturday nights. 3:00 p.m.!! You can't go wrong with their tableside guacamole.
Good, unfussy Mexican food. Had the calabaza y elote quesadilla which has zucchini and melted cheddar inside. The outdoor area was adequately warm on a breezy night and even w/a very celebratory group of guys out there, it wasn't impossible to enjoy the meal bc of the large, open space.
My husband and I have been coming here since 2001. His family has been coming here since all his siblings were small. It has been our romantic date place! Since the pandemic, things have changed a lot as far as usual menu items like steak picado. This was our dish, but they took it off the menu. The kids portions are large, which is good. We still enjoy the chips though, and we spread butter on them and dip in the chili sauce. Delicious. I could go just for chips and drinks. Their Cadillac Margarita used to come with a shot on the side, but they didn't do that the last time we visited. But, one thing has not changed...the flan! Still delicious and the recipe hasn't changed after all these years. Great service, with some of the waters being there for more than 20 years.
We sat in the patio for an early dinner. No waiting. Service was excellent. Friendly and attentive.
Amazing food, especially the homemade tortillas… but the customer service was disappointing. It took 40 minutes to place our order after we sat down. We had to get up a few times and try to find the server just to get things like straws and plates.
I’ve been to La Cabaña time and again over the years and always enjoy eating at this venerable local establishment. The food is good, the servings are big, the prices are fair and the service is great. I like El Verde, a huge burrito stuffed with chicken, pork or beef, and smothered with a tasty green sauce and served on a bed of rice and refried beans. I also like the guacamole, which is fresh and can be ordered mild or spicy. I wash it all down with a spicy michelada made with Modelo beer. The vibe is casual and relaxed and my favorite spot is the outdoor patio. If you’re in the area, I recommend this spot.
This is a beloved local place that has entrees from 10 to $30 offering an array of standard and novel Mexican dishes. The food is tasty, flavorful, and high quality food products. The service is superb at all levels. Most of the people who work there have been employed by the organization 20 and 30 years, as all of the employees are listed with their time of service at the front door. It's remarkable. The only drawback is that, in spite of the interesting and pretty decor, it seems like there could be a little more done with it to add to the already nice experience. The food and service are both there, but I wish they had created more of a moment and a unique experience by pushing into the culture a little more with either music or quiet live music, or some other tokens of interest. Very good. Worth going back. Kind people.
La Cabana has been around since the 60's and not much as changed there. Parking is easy and the service is pretty good. The food is traditional Mexican food and it is good, not great. They have the typical combo plates and they have a few nice desserts. Their drinks are good with a nice selection of call liquors. What is great about this place and sets it apart from other typical Mexican restaurants is that they make their own tortillas and they are always fresh, at times you need to wait a minute for someone to make them. They are always worth the wait. If you are in Venice, this is a good place to stop before or after the beach. If you are no where near it, the time is better spent elsewhere. They have take out and delivery as well.
I’m not one to write reviews, but my experience tonight was something I needed to share. Love the location and their decor. The hosts and servers where great. We sat out in their back patio which was very nice and inviting. Everything was going well until we got our food. Some of us received cold food. We did send it back and the dishes were returned nice and hot. I don’t want to share what I thought about my dish, because I just sound like a complainer. Maybe I should have older enchiladas : ) This is what upset me...the table next to use, who just got seated, started chain smoking!! I mean really?! Smoking in a restaurant?! Apparently it’s okay because we are technically in a patio (with four walls and a semi covered roof. I thought I was back in the 80’s! I truly felt sick to my stomach and I use to smoke. Never again! I couldn’t finish my food and we had to quickly leave. My hair and clothes smell like cigarettes ...blah!!
So much potential here. Looks like it used to be a proud Mexican restaurant but it seems they are cutting corners on the food. The fish taco was basically a fancy fish stick in a tortilla. I had a burrito, it was fine. A bit bland. Upside is they make their own tortillas. Good for happy hour. Very casual and good for groups.
Small spot for quick eats. The service is good and the food is standard Mexican food. Nothing really pops or sparks. They have good drinks so it doesn't matter much when you're intoxicated. The parking is awful as it's located on busy street and they don't have a parking lot.
I used to love this place. Went last night and was extremely disappointed. It was not very busy for a Friday night. The server seemed to be unhappy to see us, and the food was way under par. When I cut into my carne asada enchiladas, there was no melted cheese. They were cold, and the meat pebbles literally rolled out of a hollow middle with only cold meat pebbles. I'll never be back. Ymmv.
Me and my family used to go there pretty often because their food was so delicious. But then my dad got into an argument with one of the workers. Long story short we have not went back since. It’s been 2 - 3 years now and we still have not gone to La Cabana.
This used to be my "go to" place for authentic Mexican food but something's changed. My enchilada shells and shrimp inside were cold, when I notified the waiter they simply microwaved my plate?! Can't believe they didn't make a fresh one. Also the margarita used to be in a large glass and now in rocks size glass. So disappointing
First Mexican restaurant I've ever been to that does not have a Coke glass bottle nor serve real Agua Frescas like Tamarindo!! :/ I asked the waiter if they had anything that was more real and authentic Mexican paste drinks? he said No, everything was out the box. I really couldn't believe it and I knew that once they served us that Tamarindo we can tell immediately it was not real it was a sweetened based artificial drink. The food was good but I won't be coming back. :(
The food is not that great, but since we've been going there for 30 years, it's a good spot to meet up with an old group of friends. It's definitely a festive place with lots of Venice locals. Cadillac Margaritas, Pina Coladas and Fish Tacos, but there are plenty of other Mexican dishes on the menu. The flan is probably the best item on the menu. The hand-made guacamole takes second. Make sure to get a seat outside in the enclosed back patio.
Ordered DoorDash late night. I got the carnitas nachos and asada super burrito. Horrific Mexican food, quite possibly the worst I’ve ever had. Food this bad makes you wonder how a place like this can exist. I hardly leave reviews unless the service or food is terrible and this place is terrible.
So the service is pretty good, the food not so much. My wait time for the food to come out was less than 20 minutes. The tortilla chips were ok. I could really taste the tomato in the salsa, it didn’t really have a kick. The day I decided to come here the beans were salty. Overall, the food tasted as if it was canned originally. Overpriced, and lacks the true Mexican flavor to their dishes.
The place itself is nice, but the food quality is bad. Rice was undercooked with no flavor, beans were cold. Tacos were nothing special. The salsa was good if you like spicy food. Plus the waiter we had seemed very inpatient like he had somewhere else to be, and it was not busy at all. Good for what it is I guess
Beautiful interior and that’s about as far as it goes… food was bad, almost terrible. Service wasn’t bad but could’ve been better. I would give 1 star instead of 2 if the inside wasn’t so pretty.
The food here was just very OK. I meant to try here the several times, but I am a local to the area and have been thinking about it for 15 years. Finally one day I stopped in my family. Today was very disappointed. The service is bad. The food is dry. The rice is dry, the beans like they’re out of a can and even though tortilla much should be desired. I’m gonna be looking forward to try and Casablanca across the street now.
Being a Mexican I was expecting to have a good margarita, unfortunately mine tested like really bad, never complained to bar to avoid conflict. Also our waiter acted like we need him more that he needed us.
Ordered one of the super burritos and it came with a nice piece of metal (picture a small bolt) inside of it. Maybe that's what makes it "super". I'm lucky I didn't bite the piece of metal and chip a tooth or choke. Wasn't overly impressed with the few bites of the burrito I had before finding this special surprise inside of it. Only takes one experience like this for me to never return and give them my business again.
Food was horrible I'm shocked this place is still in business bad meat. Terrible experience street trucks produce much better tasting food and most definitely higher quality. Very expensive for what it is. My mind was blown and not in a good way.
Microwaved food unfortunately, even the desert was tasting weird, the food did not sit well with my stomach. Interesting/ nice decoration inside but that’s about it.
I just picked up food from the restaurant tonight to eat at home, ordered enchiladas, they were very bad. They didn’t taste like an enchilada at all or like anything else. It had rice and beans on a side, they were ok. Not sure if maybe they didn’t have a chef tonight, or if the food was just bad. I don’t normally leave bad reviews, but since it had such good reviews, now I wondered if maybe they changed administration.
