Midpoint Cafe is a must-stop on Route 66, known for its friendly staff, especially Brenda the owner, and delicious homemade pies. The burgers are huge and satisfying, though side options are limited. Expect a wait due to short staffing.

Do not miss stopping at the Midpoint Cafe. The staff make you feel like family, the coffee is great but the pies....unbelievable 😁
My wife and I stopped in here June 26th and enjoyed some pie and coffee. We got to met Brenda - the owner. She was gracious and warm towards us , even though she was busy . As an added bonus , we were served by her granddaughter , Nicole ( up from Houston for the summer break ). What a treat it was to have her look after us . Truly delightful ! Should we ever do another drive out to north Texas , then we would definitely visit again .
Nice diner. Very friendly staff. And if you are in an urgent need of Route 66 memorabilia...😉
The people were very friendly, the prices were more than reasonable, and the bathrooms were clean! They made the best BLT either of us has ever eaten. This place is an absolute treasure. If you're traveling route 66 or just passing through, definitely make this one of your stops.
Believe the reviews--this really is a great place! Unbelievable pies--my husband had a slice as his lunch. If you want pie, get here as early as you can, because they do sell out. Very cute retro interior, immaculately clean, and friendly service. This is a must-stop on any Route 66 roadtrip.
Let's start at the fact that we didn't know we where at the midpoint! This was mind blowing bc we needed a restroom no sign saying this was the midpoint it didn't say anything but an exit! When pulling in I back in and saw the sign and was in shock that we were really at the Midpoint 😭😭! Historic moment I can take this off my bucket list! Great place wonderful people love the gift shop. My cousin was offered a job 😂😂.
We had been cooped up at home since covid happened and seen this place on a YouTube video. Realized it was only and hour and 15 min drive from us and the burgers we got were worth the drive! I had an old fashioned hamburger and the patty was huge, juicy and well seasoned. Everything on it tasted super fresh. Husband had a cheeseburger and added green chiles. This place was SUPER clean too you would never know burgers were being cooked in there it smelled so clean👍 The woman who took our orders may have been the owner she was very welcoming and attentive to us and everyone in there eating. Wish we had room for pie and ice cream but took some pecan pie to go it was tasty! If you are driving thru stop here or if you live around here its worth a little drive ☺️
Oh man...was this ever a great experience! We loved it! Stopped just for a cup of coffee and some pictures but once I saw they had Coconut Cream Pie we had to split a piece....BEST CCP I have ever had...coffee was excellent too! Thank you for a really cool experience. Mike and Ally 🇨🇦
Stopped in for a small bite and piece of pie. Ended up sharing a grilled ham and cheese with green chiles and getting two slices of pie - coconut cream and an Elvis (chocolate, banana and peanut butter). Food was wonderful, and the people are friendly and professional. Worth taking time out of the day to stop in.
We stopped here as this was the end point of the first leg of our Route 66 drive. I am so glad we did!!! The hamburger was fabulous, they said it would be the best we’ve ever had, and I think they were right! Ended with the Elvis pie, wonderful! But more importantly was the people, they were the best. Will be stopping back when we head out for the second leg of the trip.
Food was amazing as ever. The menu is very basic right now, but we understand given today's uncertain tourism traffic. The menu may have been limited but not the service. If you do nothing else, get a piece of pie (or several). They have the best cream pies! They call them Ugly pies, but I don't know why. This our 4th visit. We highly recommend you put the Midpoint Cafe on your travel itinerary. Oh yeah, across the street get your picture at the midpoint of Route 66.
Still one of the coolest little diners around - we drive or ride all the way from Amarillo as often as we can for a Sunday breakfast here.
Great place right at the midpoint of Route 66! We went for breakfast right when they opened and we were the only ones there for most of the time. The Texas sized pancakes are HUGE, about 14 inches in diameter and an inch (or more ) thick. I could only eat half of one. However, they were quite good, and the gift shop had good selection. A must go for Route 66 travelers!
We stopped in at the midpoint line on Route 66 and had a fun experience! Brenda and her team were so friendly! We took fresh ground coffee and a muffin to go. Fun experience and a cool gift shop too!
The pies are wonderful. We had chocolate peanut butter. One of the other customers had green chili apple ala mode and said it was delicious. We arrived after the grill was closed around 2 p.m. The cafe is decorated with Route 66 items as well as items from that area. They also have a small gift shop with reasonably priced Route 66 souvenirs. It is definitely worth the stop.
Such a great Route 66 icon. Our table had 3 burgers (the Midpoint is massive; I can't imagine getting a triple!). Apple green chile pie was sweet and full of cinnamon, then POP goes the heat of the chiles in a delightful way. Potato chips or potato salad for a side. The burger was juicy and the meat tasted fresh, the toppings were generous and quality. Cute, well stocked gift shop. Run by an officer of the state Route 66 Association. Worth the stop and then some. We will find a way to stop back through here regularly now!
DELICIOUS food and the Sweetest ladies running the place!! I felt like I was at home even though I’m in the middle of the Texas Panhandle (I’m from Virginia). This place has the most amazing pancakes, the best hand and cheese I’ve ever had. 10/10 I will come back just for this place. 💕 Got a peach cobbler to go that smells HEAVENLY.
What a gem!!!! So glad we listened to the other reviewers while looking for food off the I-40. Food was amazing. Peanut butter pie was criminal--so freaking good ❤ The ladies working are what you hope to find at every restaurant- friendly, informative, and genuinely happy you are dining with them. Do Not Skip This Place!
It was so cool and we didn't even go in! We were on our way from Gallup New Mexico and we're going to have plenty of time to stop and have what Shelby says is the best pie you could ever eat and what happens? We get a stinking flat tire right outside of Albuquerque! Uhg! So by the time we get there, it's closed! But we get some really cool pictures and my nose prints are still on the glass where I was looking inside, I actually got to take a picture of the inside and we got a picture at the midpoint sign! We were satisfied! I'll have to come back for pie!
Have you ever had a diner experience that made you say OMG? Brenda (the owner) and Kathy (Brenda's right hand) are awesome. We are traveling thru the Texas Panhandle and heard about the Midpoint from Gene at the Milburn-Price Historical Museum in Vega (please go and see that place...phenomenal local history). The food is perfection and Brenda and Kathy...so cool to hang out with. We loved our stop and we loved getting to know both of them. We will come back this winter!! Please have a burger and pie. All home made...perfection :))
Well maintained and authentic route 66 cafe/diner. Very friendly staff and absolutely delicious food. Possibly the best hash browns I've ever had. Pie is also definitely worth stopping for. Plenty of souvenirs to pick up as well. Don't miss out on this place if you're headed down I-40.
This is a must visit! Its like going back in time! All the Route 66 inspired decor really makes the dining experience! The food, hands down worth it too! The pie was amazing! We had the black bean burgers and they were amazing! We meet some friendly fellow travels that we chatted with and the Cafe slowed down for a moment and the owner came over and chatted with us! It was really a high light visit on our trip!
Just awesome. The chocolate pie was the best I've ever had. My wife Patti and I ate here on June 16, 2002. THE VISITOR LADY ON RTE 40 REST STOP TOLD US TO GO THERE. ITS IN MY TOP 5 PLACES TO EAT AND VISIT IN MY WHOLE LIFE. AND IM 86 it's old.
What a wonderful place and owner! We stopped during our Route 66 journey. The cafe was closed, but Brenda invited us in, let us look around, and even served us homemade pie to go. Delicious cherry cobbler and great conversation with such a friendly person. Thank you so much! Highly recommend! The decor is done so well and the gift shop is packed full. Cool signage too.
I stopped in to buy a souvenir and was greeted by an awesome waitress who showed me around the restaurant and described all the nostalgia of the restaurant and surrounding area outside. She loved her job and her employer. The owner of the cafe also talked to me and is trying her hardest to stay open so I recommend this awesome place. You won’t be disappointed.
We caught the tail end of the lunch crowd and we had great service there. The burgers are HUGE, Tasty, and in my opinion, worth the money. Not only is this a great little cafe to stop at, it is in a neat location, in the middle of Route 66. We recommend this place, in fact we drove up from Clovis, NM just to go here.
This little cafe and gift shop is located on old route 66 at its midpoint. If you're looking for burgers as big as your head and wonderful homemade pies, cinnamon rolls, some route 66 memorabilia, and an old fashioned jukebox this is your place. Full of old fashioned diner charm this place is a great pitstop on your route 66 journey. The burgers are a little high-priced but definitely worth it. I even got to see something that I thought didn't exist anymore a telephone booth with a phone in it. Somebody be sure to tell Superman!
Lovely people who welcome you as soon as you walk through the door. Cafe was clean and had some really interesting things to look at, like an old dukebox. We opted for the mid-point burger - wow, it is enormous. Outside is the route 66 mid-point line, so lots of photo opportunities. Definitely recommend this cafe for a bite to eat or just a drink. There is also a gift shop attached which had lots to look at and purchase. You are under no pressure to enter the gift shop.
Went here in 2009 during a two week journey with my best friend right after we graduated high school. A fantastic trip and getting to this halfway point was made even better by finding this cute little diner with fantastic diner food. UPDATE - I returned in 2022 and it is pretty much the same! Very busy, great atmosphere. I ordered a double patty - that was a mistake. It was HUGE! Usually when you can order single, double, or triple patties that is an indicator they have thin patties. No. These are FULL burger patties. Two was gigantic! But it WAS very good!
Amazing place that made us feel like at home. People who work there truly love their jobs and are always welcoming. It felt so good when they came to talk to us, no rush, no anything. I loved it and will absolutely recommend to everyone to stop there while traveling Route 66. Thank you guys!
Family friendly restaurant. The ladies are so friendly and accommodating. They welcomed us with their warmth smile and had a fun conversation with the owner/chef and their staff. There was a long wait to get our orders taken and serving our food because they are short staff just like any other small businesses but their souvenir shop and historic photo ops made us busy while waiting. Their menu is so simple and food was made with love! I had the best time dining here and they deserve more business! Do not hesitate to drop by in this diner even if you are only going to use their bathroom, check out their souvenir shop or take pictures, they love having people over. But of course they need your business too! So enjoy your meal here! I heard their pie is good and its homemade. It was soldout when we were there but will definitely come back on my way home after my road trip.
This little cafe has some of the best pie. The meals are good but the highlight is the pie. It is a small cafe where family works the tables. We try to stop here anytime we drive near Amarillo. On this trip I tried the chili apple pie....yeah, you read it right. It was an apple by but the backside of the flavor had a little bite. It was a good combination but not sure I would order it again. My wife had the Elvis. Peanut butter and banana pie. It is one of our favorites.
Great place to stop along the highway during your Route 66 trip! More than just a kitschy 66 destination, Midpoint serves up one of the bigger double cheeseburger I’ve had, and the Black Bean burger was a welcome option for my vegetarian wife. Both were fantastic and reasonably priced! They don’t serve French fries, likely because there’s no deep frier, but offer a variety of bagged chips as a viable substitute. Catering to the few locals and travelers that stop by, the server was polite and caring, making sure we had everything we needed despite them being understaffed that day, like lots of other places these days. There’s a gift shop inside and plenty of photo ops outside, including a half way marker of Route 66 on the street and a sign. You definitely want to make this a stop on your historic trip down 66, or if you’re just hungry, because you’re sure to be satisfied.
We stopped both ways while on a recent Western road trip. We had lunch on the westbound leg. My BLT and chips was great, and my wife enjoyed her chicken salad sandwich with potato salad. Service was great and reasonably fast, considering a caravan of Airstreams arrived just ahead of us. On the eastbound leg, we had some of their amazing pie.
I had Tennessee Whiskey Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie and it was awesome (and yes… I licked the plate)!! My wife had the BLT and loved it! The service was quick and beyond friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant was everything we hoped it would be when we decided to stop. All this is enough to warrant a 5-star rating…but there is more. While checking out, I left my credit card at the counter but didn’t discover that for a couple hundred miles further east. We reached out to Brenda Hammit (owner) and she bent over backwards to assure me they had it and returned it very, very quickly. Establishments like Midpoint Cafe show every day they deserve our business…check them out if you are anywhere near Adrian, TX…you won’t regret it!
Best double cheeseburger ever! I stopped for the “pies” because I’ve heard how wonderful and tasty they are. (And pick up Route 66 souvenirs) just from seeing what other diners ordered you can see all the food is good! I literally was made to feel that my burger was created and made personally for me! Thick, juicy beef, the perfect bun and beef that tasted like actual beef, not filler or dry/over cooked. Prepared/served by wonderful people welcoming and making you feel at home! Nice ambiance, plenty of items in the gift shop and a good place to take a break from the road!
Personally, this was my favorite diner from all route 66. Its vibe is unique and takes you in the past with a sweet nostalgia. Just because of its location you must visit it. Inside you can admire many, many vintage objects. I highly recommend to order a bottle of Coke with a smooth and creamy Peanut Butter Chocolate pie, it’s heaven on Earth. Also the souvenir shop is really nice and maybe you can buy something.
Had read so much about Midpoint and seen so many pictures on line, I was really looking forward to this visit. The service was great and the food was excellent. Really appreciate the patience the server had with my two picky, rambunctious children! The Route 66 burger and pecan pie is highly recommended by me!
This is one of the best places to get a hamburger, my 3rd or 4th time I’ve stopped here traveling thru and it’s always delicious. Home made pies are the bomb. Brenda the owner is fantastic and the waitress was really really sweet. I ate half of my sandwich before I remembered to take a picture, then I did the same thing with my pie. Sorry, but to good not to post. The coconut cream was my sister pie. I had the pecan.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. My wife, son, and I ordered Midway Burgers our ways, and we loved them. Juicy and flavorful burgers with fresh vegetable toppings. For dessert, my wife ate the Peach Cobbler and said it was the very best she had ever had. My son ordered the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie and loved each and every bite. I ordered the Apple Chile Pie. It was a delicious apple pie with the perfect amount of green chile to add some depth and heat. Absolutely delicious. We walked through the gift shop and loved the large selection of souvenirs.
We were passing and stopped to take some photos when Brenda, the owner, welcomed us inside despite closing 90 minutes earlier. What a star she is. She served us pie and water and hugged us both. I also was given a free Route 66 cap. We've met so many lovely American people on this Route 66 trip who've just been happy to sit and talk and we'll never forget them. Tony and Susan, UK.
Great dining experience. The breakfast was delicious. The loaded hashbrowns are over the top with the green chili's. The menu is limited choices. Call Ahead to make sure kitchen is open, because they are currently short staffed. Though the server was busy but positively interactive with each table. The experience was wonderful. The atmosphere is Retro Vintage including the tables. The building was the inspiration to the building V8 Cafe in the movie Cars. Gift Shop attached. The location is the Midpoint between Santa Monica, CA and Chicago, IL, on the Old Route 66, Mother Road.
What just happened??? We ordered a blueberry banana piece of pie to go (after eating a really good grilled cheese in the restaurant) and ate it in the car. That was THE BEST PIE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE 🤯 I wish I had bought a whole one!! The waitress was very nice and friendly. Food arrived quickly. The menu is very simple. Not a lot of choices. You’re in a very small town with a very small staff. Please be understanding. The food is excellent and the pie is absolutely unbelievable!! It’s worth the stop The restaurant itself is adorable. It’s a step back in time to a visually stimulating era. I loved all of it. A customer had a birthday and the entire restaurant sang happy birthday 🥹🥰 The “vibe” here is wonderful The gift shop is full of great merchandise! I found a tin photograph of Cadillac Ranch for $15! I bought it and headed straight to the real location to see it in person. Now I have a keepsake that would not be available at the actual site This place had been on my list of places to go for years. I grew up in Holbrook. Both have history rich in Route 66 and were brought to life in the movie Cars. If you drive around town there are funny signs everywhere. It’s a tiny beautiful community. It would take 15 minutes top and be part of this wonderful experience you will never forget!!
This is a wonderful establishment and a must stop along Route 66 for good food, service and history !!! The food is cooked fresh and the pies are just delightful. There is a small gift shop with a variety of Route66 memorabilia to choose from. I cannot say enough good things about the food and the two wonderful ladies that work so very hard to make your experience a great one !!!
Called like that because it is at the midpoint of route 66 between Los Angeles and Chicago, this is a classic retro diner, where you get real burgers, prepared after you order... and wait for your food like any other food restaurant. Classic in its atmosphere and setting, this is great place to stop and have a bite while on the road.
Cute little stop. We went for breakfast. Simple menu... egg, bacon or sausage, white or wheat bread or biscuit w/gravy is all they served. BUT the PIE... oh the pies! Yes we had pie for breakfast! My husband had the Tennessee Whiskey one and I had the Elvis! Wow!! Quite a few people stopped by so it was busy!
Fun place to stop if your a Rt.66 fan or history buff. Cute, small, friendly cafe. 50’s style decor. We were there in the morning. Had breakfast. Food was good. Cafe and restroom were clean. Gift shop in the cafe. Service was a bit slow and you really have to be looking for the sign to exit if you are traveling west On I-40. A place across the Rt.66 to take pictures.
Visited Midpoint Cafe recently and had a delightful experience. The food was absolutely delicious. The burgers were fantastic, the BLT was incredibly tasty, and the ice cream was a big hit. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is due to the overwhelming number of flies, which was a bit of a nuisance. Despite that, we'd definitely return if we're in the area on I-40. Overall, a great spot to stop for a meal. Also, my wife wanted to add, the women’s restroom was impeccable!
The building and atmosphere is good with most customers getting on as they tend to be travelling the Route 66 highway. It is decorated well with numerous Route 66 / historic diner materials including a unique collection of licence plates from many states. The food is good too, perhaps particularly the dessert pies (our first chance to sample really good US pies. The staff were very welcoming, but service was a little haphazard - I believe they had had a busy morning/early lunch. It wasnt a problem, helped us relax and we weren't seeking to cover too many miles that day!
As of Sept 2017 place is up for sale. It was busy, food was ok. Have to spend at least 10 to use a card so bring cash if your just buying something small from gift shop. Pie look great but I did not try it. I got a grilled cheese to go. Had to get chips as my side because they were out of everything else :/ grilled cheese was nothing special, but definitely a fun place to check out.
Stopped here while traveling Route 66 and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience. We were told we couldn’t order any pie because they were “saving it” for a large reservation later in the day, even though we were sitting there ready to order. Strangely, they were pushing cobbler to the table next to us, saying it’s just like pie… yet apparently that wasn’t good enough for the reservation group either. If they knew they had that many people coming, it would’ve made more sense to just prepare more pies ahead of time. Service was painfully slow. One of our drinks never arrived at all, and they tried to charge us for four drinks when there were only three of us (and only two drinks arrived) No one seemed to notice or apologize. One burger we ordered was supposed to have bacon added, but it got put on the wrong one. Not a huge deal, but by the time they brought the bacon on the side, he was already halfway done eating. The server said we wouldn’t be charged for the mistake, which is appreciated… but honestly, I’d hope not. Between the long wait times, the mix-ups, and the bizarre pie situation, it just wasn’t the kind of experience you hope for when stopping at a Route 66 diner. Wouldn’t go out of my way to return even though the burgers were delicious. The service just ruined it.
Winter hours are not true. We went on a Saturday got there at 130 and they were closed the gift shop told us there had already had 30 people drive by to ask the same thing. Drove 2.5 hours to go have lunch there and nope 🤬🤬🤬
