Ambience and details is the key here.this place is well located on the roof and has a private elevator to the 8th floor. Feels like you are entering a nightclub instead of a restaurant. We were there for brunch but judging by the menu, we can recommend Dinner. This place e is a mix of Japanese food and perucain cuisine .ixed into one. We had pisco sours and ordered crevice and steak and eggs, everything was great and the service was phenomenal.
Spent one of my birthday celebrations here and WOW! Plenty aesthetic photo opportunity here! Then there was a DJ inside totally killing his set. The food was amazing. They did a sweet birthday celebration for me. Service was quick and the server was knowledgeable and nice. I would def come back again and again!
Dined here yesterday for our anniversary. Our server Max really took care of us. We got the signature and vegetarian tasting menu. Everything tasted impeccable. It was packed on a Saturday night and the ambience is upscale and trendy. The view from the rooftop is breathtaking.
Cozy and nice atmosphere with great service from start to finish. The Black Cod Aji Miso is a must-order--the miso sauce pairs perfectly with the cod and is incredibly tasty. The Tentáculos de Pulpo has a strong spicy aroma, but when mixed with the purée it becomes a great combination, and the octopus is tender and well cooked. The O-Toro Aburi Sashimi is super fresh and melts in your mouth. For the Spicy Tuna Hako Roll, the tenkasu tempura makes the rice a little hard, but the flavors are still good. Dessert was amazing--the cake is delicious, especially with the chocolate sauce and berry crumble. Overall, a great dining experience. Highly recommend!
This place is such a great vibe. Right off the bat the entrance was such a cool little artsy display. The views here were incredible, full panorama views of the city. The fusion of Peruvian and Japanese work so well together. The dragon roll was my favorite followed by the picante chicken. The DJ here was playing great music.
Chotto Matte exceeded every expectation—and I only came in for cocktails and appetizers this time. The design and layout are absolutely fire: modern, moody, artistic, and the kind of space you instantly want to come back to for a full dining experience. We tried a few small plates and every single one was a hit. The wagyu sliders were rich and flavorful, the cornbread was honestly phenomenal, and we also had a delicious tartare-style bite served on crispy little wafers (can’t remember the exact name, but unforgettable flavor). My cocktail—the Cucumber Breeze—was incredibly refreshing and perfectly balanced. If the drinks and appetizers alone are this impressive, I already know the full menu is going to be next-level. I’m absolutely coming back for a full dinner. Between the vibe, the cocktails, and the quality of the food, Chotto Matte is a must-visit.
At Chotto Matte everyone is having the time of their lives, and you are also having the time of your life. We went for our anniversary dinner and decided to go with both the Signature Sharing Menu and the Deluxe Sharing Menu. Everything was great and I loved the variety in all the dishes. Also, the service was incredible. All the servers were very friendly and considerate and it really added to the experience. The booth we were seated in was also so comfortable. Although you may hear the cheers of a birthday celebration at a nearby table, your own table will have a private and intimate atmosphere you can relax and enjoy your meal in.
Im very much a foodie maybe even pretentious sometimes. Someone was taking me here and I was pretty wary because of how flashy it is. He said the food was good so we ordered a variety of things and I was very impressed. Certainly exceeded my expectations and was on par in terms of flavor development and preparation with other places that I really like in the city. I could imagine this being a great bar and lounge for celebration, group dining, whatever. The music isn't too loud so you can still hear and the lighting is just right. There's also pretty good views. My favorite thing was the yellowtail ceviche with the cherry tomatoes. It was insane a great recommendation for my server. Also really liked the Parmesan potatoes very simple but good, also liked my veggie sushi roll that I got im forgetting the name of it but it's the vegetarian one. Tuna tostada is also good. Really disliked the octopus it was very tough and chewy.
One of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had! Chotto Matte San Francisco completely exceeded our expectations. The food was phenomenal — every dish was packed with flavor and presented beautifully. The drinks were incredible as well, perfectly made and incredibly smooth. A huge thank you to the entire staff for their warmth and professionalism, and a special shoutout to Manager Ramalah for his amazing hospitality. He made us feel truly welcomed and taken care of the entire night. If you’re looking for top-tier food, great energy, and exceptional service, this is the place. We’ll absolutely be back!
Could imagine this place being a hit in the evening but for this time, I enjoyed a lunch on a beautiful clear day. Starting with the lobby entrance you feel as if you’ve escaped the city. The restaurant displays a uniquely edgy and exotic vibe with much to appreciate. Would highly recommend sitting outside should weather permit. Service was divine and made our experience smooth and comfortable. Being that I went for lunch I opted for their Lunch Special which is a great deal. You are able to choose from 4 set menus with it being $40 per person. I went with the Land & Sea, all looked delicious. We ended the meal with the phenomenal Matcha crepe layered cake. It was light, smooth and truly IRRESISTIBLE. I did see previous reviews stating price is high but they do have many shareable dishes and I personally thought you get a great amount of food for their Lunch Special. The next time you find yourself shopping in Union Square and looking for a good bite to eat, you know where to go!
I ordered the Wagyu Aburi Sashimi, Chuleta De Cordero Ahumada and finished with the Passion Fruit crème brûlée. Every dish was beautifully presented and the service was attentive without being intrusive. The ambiance had the perfect balance between modern and intimate. Highly recommend
Three Weeks In — Already the Best Brunch in Town Chotto Matte just launched their weekend brunch three weeks ago, and it’s already my new go-to spot. The experience is the perfect balance of creative food, relaxed rooftop vibes, and attentive service that makes you feel taken care of from the first sip to the last bite. We started with their cornbread — warm, golden, and impossibly moist, paired with an herbed butter I could eat by the spoonful. The Wagyu sliders followed, and they were everything you’d hope for: pillowy buns, juicy patties, crisp greens, and a sauce that tied it all together. The Smoky Breakfast Burrito was hearty and deeply satisfying, the side of bacon was crisp and perfectly salty, and it all paired beautifully with a glass of wine and a cold Cusqueña Peruvian Golden Lager — smooth, refreshing, and spot on for a sunny rooftop brunch. The highlight finale? The churro bites. Warm, fluffy, rolled in just the right amount of sugar, dipped into a silky chocolate sauce, with bursts of fresh pomegranate that lifted the whole dish. Absolute perfection. And let’s not forget the vibe: a live DJ spinning all through brunch sets the tone just right — upbeat, stylish, and fun without being overbearing. It makes the rooftop feel like the place to be. This brunch is vibrant, bold, and clearly crafted with care. Three weeks in, and it’s already set the standard. I can’t wait to come back — and I’m telling everyone I know: this is the brunch you don’t want to miss.
I love the ambiance, and the service is top-notch. I could not be any happier with the service and how they took care of us. Rosita is great, making sure we are all enjoying the experience. Their cocktails is a must try. The food although tasty, the portion is quite small. The outside seating is nice with a view of San francisco.
I am in absolute awe of this place. It makes you feel as though you’re in a restaurant in LA, or something similar. There’s not many restaurants with an ambiance like this one. It’s gorgeous! The food was absolutely amazing (be weary, it’s pricey) but for good reason. The sashimi dishes are phenomenal. Would highly recommend the O-Toro and the Yellowtail dishes. It was a Wednesday night and they had a DJ playing great music! The service was excellent, other than the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty when we got seated and they seated us facing the sun, and the restaurant doesn’t have shades to block the sun so it was a battle to keep our eyes open for some of the dinner before the sun set. Other than that, this place is amazing and I would highly recommend trying it if you’re willing to spend a pretty penny!
Beautiful rooftop setting. Yummy cocktails. The food was delicious but the portions small. We LOVED the DJ, #Rey-Reck. Her set was perfect for our brunch. Very trendy.
As first-time diners, we were encouraged to order both the Signature and Deluxe Sharing Menus and were told that together they would cover about 85% of the menu and offer the best overall experience. In hindsight, it felt like we got suckered into overordering. The amount of food was excessive, and only a handful of dishes truly stood out. The highlights for me were the Shishito Peppers and the Yellowtail “Nikkei Sashimi,” both of which were excellent. A couple of honorable mentions go to the Chotto Ceviche and the Wedge Salad, though the salad was a bit too overdressed for my liking. If I were judging solely on the food, this would land at about a three-star experience. What helped elevate the evening was the service, which was solid and consistent with what you’d expect from an upscale restaurant. Our server was thoughtful in pacing the meal, bringing dishes out in a way that built on flavors rather than strictly following menu order. Most items arrived promptly, though the dessert platter was noticeably delayed. The cocktails were good and on par with what you’d expect from a restaurant-bar lounge of this caliber. The ambiance struck an upscale yet casual tone—enjoyable to experience, though it leaned a bit too gimmicky for my personal taste. Overall, I’m glad I tried it. Having gone through the tasting menus, I now know exactly what I’d order next time without overindulging. That said, it’s not a place I’d visit frequently, but more of a once-in-a-while experience.
The ceviche was fresh, but a more generous amount would be nice. The Wagyu spring rolls were a greater starter with perfect flavor and texture. The cod melted in my mouth. I enjoyed the smokey flavor in the broccolini and matcha dessert couldn't be more rich and flavorful. I will definitely return.
This place has an amazing view — if you can, definitely grab a table on the terrace! The food is a perfect fusion of Asian and Peruvian flavors. The dishes are on the smaller side, but that just means you get to try more of everything! We also loved the service — from the moment we walked in, everyone was super kind and the waiters were incredibly friendly. Highly recommended!
Lovely! The Australian wagyu steak and the lobster truffle was divine! Generally a very nice, trendy space. People were dressed up but also very trendy. The rooftop was too cold this time of year and there’s more of an upbeat energy inside. Great service. Some of the food was mediocre like the dragon roll, but a lot of it was great. We parked a street over, which was free parking on the weekends.
The rooftop vibe here is unbeatable, especially in the evening when the DJ starts playing and it transforms into a cool lounge. However, the food didn't quite live up to the atmosphere. The sushi rolls were mediocre, and the steak was pretty forgettable. Honestly, the dessert was the most memorable part of the meal. Go for the music and the views, but don't come with high expectations for the menu.
Was excited to try this place for my gf’s birthday, was underwhelmed unfortunately. We opted for the deluxe pre fixe menu @ $165/pp, the bill totaled $1k/4 pp. It’s a nice venue, vibes were decent- they had a DJ posted by the bar with dim lighting. I can say that our server was friendly and attentive, she was much appreciated. What i didn’t like was the food. We had to substitute some of the items due to dietary restrictions and their offer for the hamachi was a lychee crudo?! The value for the food was just not there; Australian Wagyu tastes game-y, miso cod instead of seabass and we are sharing 1 piece per 2 people, Pulpo was half mushy, the rest was just decent. Unfortunate.
Came today for Valentine's Day with my girlfriend and immediately realized they pack as many people in here as possible. Tables are so close together you have to squeeze and shuffle sideways to get in and can perpetually hear the conversations at the tables next to you. Combine that with loud music (the live violinist was nice) and it's hard to talk without raising your voice. The food was good, although very expensive and very small portions. We started with the Chotto Ceviche ($25) & Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice ($23). Both were good but nothing special, pretty standard. We were then supposed to get the Wagyu Carbonara Udon ($48), but unfortunately we never received it. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise though, as the table next to us got one and didn't look like enough to share. Instead, the meal continued and we had our last two dishes, the Asado De Tira ($43) and King Oyster Mushroom Tostadas ($19). Again, both were good but nothing special. Please look at the attached pictures if you'd like to see how big they are. I know this review may seem like poor taste but in a city full of great restaurants, when you charge prices like this you either expect great quality, good quantity, or both. This had neither. Some restaurants that are similarly priced but have better quality and/or quantity are San Ho Won, Good Good Culture Club, State Bird Provisions, Fang, the list goes on. One more thing that may just be a personal preference but it felt like they didn't really care about how we enjoyed the meal and were rushing us through the meal. The waiter asked us how the food tasted BEFORE we had even taken a bite of our first dishes. And then he returned another 3 times throughout the course of the meal. Each time, never noticing that we had not received one of the dishes. He even came by as we were eating the Asada and started to ask if we wanted Dessert, before realizing we were still eating, stopping mid-sentence, and walking away. This may not be his fault as he was probably handling 20+ tables due to how many people were packed in there, but it felt very impersonal. If you'd like a nice night out, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.
Disappointing Experience – Poor Service Overshadowed the Entire Meal We were really looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, the service was so poor it made it nearly impossible to enjoy ourselves. We were a group of six, and there was a 30-minute gap between when the first and last person in our party received their food. Naturally, no one could eat together, and by the time the last plate arrived, the rest of the group was either done or had cold meals. What made it worse was the complete lack of communication or apology from our server. Not once did he acknowledge the delay, offer an explanation, or check in to see how we were doing. He dropped the check on the table without a word, no eye contact, no thank you, nothing. We dine out often and love exploring restaurants across San Francisco, but this was hands-down one of the worst service experiences we’ve had in the city. It was a truly disappointing experience.
