Being from France I had a very hard time choosing a pastry for breakfast as they all looked incredible. I got the turkey and brie croissant which was heated perfectly without asking, I can say this was the best I’ve ever had in particular because of the quality of the brie used. You could taste the sharpness of the brie rind subtly, something missing from most every brie pastry I’ve had.
Such a haven. My special place. I love the owners, the staff, the food, and the coffee! Best cafe the lower Haight has ever had to offer. Now if only we could get them to stay open until 10pm so we could have even more of them!
great european vibe coffee shop with outdoor seating and really legit espresso! Ive been looking for good espresso in the city and this is one of only a few that really know how to make it properly. Good wifi, tasteful music and friendly staff! My favorite coffee shop in the city.
My favorite cafe in Duboce! Clean, friendly staff, the food is delicious, the coffee is fresh, and the ambience feels local / friendly. Lots of natural light comes into the cafe I got the bacon cheese toast with avocado and it was so good! Side of easy over eggs were cooked perfectly. WiFi available
Classic French cafe. The owner is French Moroccan. In the morning you'll hear french speaking folks, see cute children with the stroller brigade, techies parked forever with their laptop, visiting parents, & a whole bunch of colorful regulars. More upscale than Bean There down the street, Depends on what you're looking for. The bar is a regular Cheers for the neighbors. I have never walked by without knowing someone in there. It's the Lower Haight's salon/ living room. Oh how i miss the wonderful music they used to play. But apparently stopping at 9:30p was not good enough for some crabby neighbor down the street. REALLY ? ! This place used to be a white trash biker bar. Property values went up $10,000 when they opened. And the food! My only wish is that they'd shake it up a bit. What they have is fantastic, except for the "pizza" which i don't get at all. A++ for the coffees, wines, pastries, salads, and the hummus sandwich. Oh, and the home made lemonade. Check for the soup special. Try to snag a seat outside. Kitchen is teeny, pastries come from the mother ship on upper fillmore. Great date place, or reserve the whole darn place for a party.
Delicious open faced sandwiches! I’ve had the turkey one and the chicken sandwich.
This is one of my favorite work spots. The staff are amazing. And the seating are pretty great too. It's a bit on the fancy side, so if that's not your vibe you might want to avoid. It has some of the best coffee I've had in the Lower Haight. Also really wonderful are their sandwiches (all open faced with a salad), their pizza, and my favorite: French Toast. Bear in mind it can be kind of pricey: a sandwich and a coffee would easily cost you $17 before tip. Still, I think it's worth it for an occasional treat to yourself or to your dates/friends. As for working there, the internet is really fast. Keep in mind that there are no outlets. So bring an external battery or make sure your machine is charged. Overall, it's a reliable place for me to go in the Lower Haight.
Beautiful, quaint cafe in the haight, perfect for brunch and coffee. Always a delight to visit. May I recommend the avocado toast with bacon and eggs and a cappuccino?
Go to spot almost every week, service is always quick and the coffee and food all tastes great! Hidden gem in SF
Amazing pastries, foods and coffee. Nice place to relax and chat.
Waitress very friendly, goat cheese pizza very delicious (though it's more of a flatbread), free WiFi, what more could you ask for? It seems that many people come to this cafe to work, given the volume of people with laptops.
Lovely corner cafe. Great smooth french music inside and plenty of space. We had their french toast, coffee, tea and an almond croissant and it was all very tasty. The service is very friendly, quick and attentive. We would definitely be back :)
Food was so good!!! Might be the best French toast I’ve had—perfect crust on the outside and almost custard-y inside. And the chicken bacon Gruyère sandwich was savory and delicious. Note: everyone in the cafe was on the laptops, so it seems like lots of ppl come here to work
Long overdue review for my favorite neighborhood cafe in SF. Cafe du Soleil is one of those places that is magical no matter the time of the year. Though the Equator coffee beans and healthy salads are always fantastic, what the Cafe really excels in is its authenticity and charm. The owners and staff treat their long time customers like family. No matter what’s happening in the outside world, you can expect to leave Cafe Du Soleil caffeinated and smiling. You can’t put a price on a place as charming as this.
This review is long overdue - I am ridiculously grateful this place exists :) Café du Soleil feels like a place that just... hugs you. It's such a cozy, welcoming spot and just feels good to be in. The coffee is always great, the food is fabulous, and the staff are all good people. It’s the kind of place that makes the neighborhood better and elevates everything around it - for example, it's where I feel like I've finally arrived home after I come back from travels. My sense is that this is true for many others; there are so many regulars that it's safe to say it's the Lower Haight/Duboce Triangle neighborhoods' third place. The coffee (especially the cortado crafted by Lars) is top-of-the-shelf. The food is equally fabulous - you'll be delighted by their avocado toast and eggs, not to mention their french toast. It's a special place for the whole community around it and a place that assuages the transiency of San Francisco - not just through the cozy vibes, the friendly service, the consistently delicious food and coffee, but also through their 20+ years in business making everyone feel at home here. Based on personal experience, Cafe du Soleil will not only feed you, the vibe here will lighten up your day and, once you inevitably become a regular like everyone else, will gift you lifelong friends (everyone here is so nice!). It's a place that I'll always keep coming back to for what I hope to be many, many more years ahead.
The cafe offer a gorgeous vibe of a French bistro combined with picturesque view to San Francisco Victorian homes and accompanied by absolutely delicious coffee and food. We had some pastry which name I fail to remember, it was buttery, raspberry, and fluffy; salmon quiche (I would add some feta to it, btw), lemon eclair, and late. And I do recommended every single item of that list.
Truly THE best french toast I've ever had. Add to that excellent service and great location and you get what's a very very underrated brunch spot in SF!
Cafe du Soleil was a great spot for breakfast! We tried the vanilla matcha latte and the French toast, and both were fantastic! The French toast was well presented, topped with fresh strawberries and bananas, and surrounded by a delicious berry sauce. It was perfectly fluffy and not too sweet. The vanilla matcha latte was creamy and refreshing, a great complement to the meal. The café had a cozy, laid-back vibe, perfect for relaxing with a book or catching up with friends. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great start your day
Located in the Center of San Fran, This little Sun filled cafe is my love, fav place to go in the neighbourhood. Seating by the window is very comfortable and I love the music they play. Amazing coffee excellent services. Did I mention their Amazing avocado toast
Their French toast was awesome! Went to Le Cafe du Soleil based on the ratings and I want not disappointed. Nice place to work with a good French toast and a coffee. Nice service too. Will go back… on a warm weekend morning.
I would go out of my way to visit this place again, it's a cafe in an already lovely area. The staff were good, relatively friendly. As in images, Avocado toast was ordered by one in our party - and was apparently great. Personally, I ordered the French toast. It's pretty much a thing a of beauty, and I highly recommend it. The consistency of it was essentially perfect as well. Despite that, it's not overpriced for the area. If I am around the area again I'll certainly have to hit them up again.
This cafe is such a delight! Go there when you need some serious work done! The WiFi is stable, the staff friendly, it’s bright and sunlit, and the music is on point! What a wonderful vibe! The coffee is pretty good too. I wish they had more versatile food options. They have the soup of the day everyday and so I tried the French Onion soup. Not the best part for me about this cafe!
Recommend: Croque Monsieur Cafe du Soleil is more than just a brunch place. It’s where people come to have a good time, to meet new people, and to just enjoy being in the moment. And wow is the croque monsieur good!
Barista who helped me was very kind and this was the best chai latte I’ve ever had! 😮
Absolutely delicious. I had the bacon quiche with greens and my gf had the French toast. The latte was so fresh and one of the best coffees I’ve had in a while.
Great place for breakfast/brunch and stroll in neighborhood after. Salmon quiche is amazing. Kouign-amann is a the must have.❤️

A dignified dining environment with very artistic interiors, furniture, and walls, and high quality food from pastries to chicken and from vegetarian items to fish.

My favourite and best place in San Francisco for years now. I was a regular at the beginning of their venture and spent days and evenings there working or with friends. Staff and especially owner super nice. I can only highly recommend that place. I wished the owner would open the same in London :))
Oh my .... J'ai trouvé le cappuccino le plus parfait! I have found the most perfect cappuccino in California! The salmon quiche was "C'était délicieux"! Great service and an unbeatable cafe vibe with plenty of outdoor seating and the iconic music from the 30s and 40s is charming. I will definitely return to Le Café de Soleil when I find myself in San Francisco.

Cute outdoor seating with umbrellas, and an airy indoor space with big windows and lots of tables. Food was good, though on the pricy side for cafe fare. I thought their coffee was average (I had a latte). They charge +$1 for alternative milks (like so many places, but I really appreciate the ones that don’t).
Tried the salmon quiche (7.5/10) and sat down to work a bit. Really nice atmosphere and kind service. The pastries looked good but didn’t try

Sweet little spot to seat for a pastry and coffee- must say that the coffee is not the best… got a flat white and the coffee tasted bitter. Croissant was good but it was more a puff pastry as it lacked the flakiness/airiness of a typical croissant.

Had to visit this breakfast "alternative" while being unable to visit my preferred spot, it appeared more like a French bakery. The options offered while appearing great, did little with the sub-par portion size in proportion to the price point. If a trip to France was included with the sandwich, it would temp me to revisit. While the service was nice, the atmosphere was well lit and open, but if you're in need of a hearty breakfast, save time and money by venturing somewhere else.
Wifi is good, but no power outlets. Avocado toast has the thinnest possible slices of avocado placed on a piece of toast. Definitely not worth the $14.00 for it. The iced coffee was good, and the vibe was good. Mostly people working on their laptops.
It isn’t the overpriced food that compelled me to write this but the service. The tall (I think French and probably the owner) person at the register kept talking to someone across the seating area while I was standing in front of him, waiting for him to acknowledge my “hey how’s it going”. After he was done taking his sweet time he then turns to me to simply ask “so what can I get you?”. No apologies for keeping waiting. On top of that, food is very mediocre. Second star only because it is a nice looking cafe.
There were a few empty tables with “reserved” sign. When I asked how to reserve a table the lady said only friends of the cafe can reserve tables so there is no public reservation. Before I sat down I told the same lady I will make an order in a few minutes. Within 5 minutes she showed up at my table telling me I need to be a customer. No patience, hectic manners, and demanding attitude. Two stars for atmosphere since customers around me seemed nice.

My partner and I visited & ordered two sandwiches, a coffee, and an iced matcha latte. With tip it was $52. My issue was with the server + the iced matcha latte we ordered. For the iced matcha latte, the server brought over a glass of hot milk with a green tea bag sitting on top and when we gently mentioned the order was incorrect, she scoffed and said she hadn’t heard me order an iced one (weird because my receipt says “iced latte”). She took the drink back, then poured the hot milk over ice and plopped the teabag on top again, which was just… both passive-aggressive and bewildering because someone two seats away was drinking an iced matcha latte. Mistakes happen sometimes, so I brought it up to her at the front and softly asked if she could make it more matcha-y (because a teabag on top of iced milk isn’t going to steep). This is when the interaction turned sour: she snatched the cup out of my hand and then grabbed the teabag with her bare hands and plopped it into a glass cup and filled it with hot water then told me to sit. I thanked her and when she returned to our table it was with the cup of ice milk & the teabag in a glass of hot water. I was honestly confused at this point, but I just thanked her because I didn’t want to make a big fuss. The server came back over and asked if it was okay. Before I could get a word out, she slammed a $5 bill on the table and patted it twice and said, “Fine! There you go—that’s for the latte!” and stormed off. I followed her back up to the cash to try and explain I didn’t want a refund (if anything I just wanted what I ordered and I’m honestly not one to make a scene, so this interaction felt embarrassing) but she disappeared into the back room before I could tell her it was okay and to keep it. She didn’t come out so I left the $5 bill in the tip jar. I understand someone having a rough day, or maybe she didn’t feel up to making a latte an hour before the cafe was set to close, which would’ve been fine had she just been like, “I’m sorry, the kitchen is closed,” but her behaviour felt hostile when we were nothing but polite (I tipped 18% when we ordered, which felt normal?)—genuinely I am just bewildered by her aggressiveness. Not warm nor welcoming. I’d avoid coming here.
