Came here with 8 coworkers since they say it’s really really really good. Lunch time they are a little busy. We ordered 9 chicken legs and that took a while. The nan came around 30 min after we placed the order with 2 types of curry. I would say the taste is 3/5 maybe because my coworkers build my expectation too high. The restaurant environment is more like a hole in the wall type. But there are many Indians here and I guess that tells a lot about the authenticity.

Good Indian food in Fremont. The beef was definitely dried. Some of silverware in the clean bin needed cleaning. They were considerate of people fasting for Ramadan.

The Goat Biryani was excellent. Spicing was right on target. I asked for butter chicken and was told in their restaurant it is called chicken tikka masala, so I ordered it. It was nothing like the chicken tikka masala I have had in the past. Huge layer of ghee on the top and not much yogurt, it was just fair in my opinion. The chicken tandoori leg was overly dry, burned but nice flavor. The mixed vegetables was poor, mostly potatoes and a huge layer of ghee. The huge Nan was good but quite thick. The bread was delivered to the table in a reusable blastic basket which was nice. We dining in, they gave us a togo bag to our table and then you have to go and get your own plate and plastic cutlery. You have to pick up your drinks from the cooler.

First time visiting this restaurant. The place is completely run down. The lighting is extremely poor. No cleaniness . The food is decent although some of the dishes like Nihari have excessive overflowing oil. The Naan we ordered was cold and appeared to be sitting out for a while. What makes me a little baffled is that this restaurant has nonstop business and they must be making really good money but unfortunately it is clear that they don't care about how it looks or how inconvenient the dine-in experience is. Even if you are dining in, your food is packed in to-go boxes and you are given one small paper plate per person. It's better to do a takeaway here. They really need to renovate asap otherwise some customers won't return here after their initial experience. No Covid protocols are being followed here and you will have to clean up your own table before you sit down.

I am really sorry for the 1* review in-spite of having eaten a relatively good meal in Shalimar Restaurant. Shalimar Restaurant is a very basic restaurant where one orders at the counter and food is served at your table. it has pretty ordinary tables, basic plates and cutlery and very attractively priced dishes which spell value for money. They have some sliced onions next to the order counter which is basically on self-service. They also have Masala Tea with disposable cups next the counter on self-service. Our order for Kadhai Chicken along with Naan's and Goat Biryani was served at our table within 10 minutes by eager to serve servers. The Kadhai Chicken was very well cooked and spiced to perfection (I agree with other reviewers that the curries are a bit too oily but then that is how Kadhai Chicken needs to be cooked). Though I have eaten better Naan's elsewhere - the Naan's served out here were not bad and had a character of their own. Starting off with the Goat Biryani - the first few bites and pieces of goat meat was quite delectable but then one big piece of completely dry and burnt meat came up which was simply not edible. Then my wife found a piece of Chicken meat from the confines of the Goat Biryani! Even at this point we were not disappointed with Shalimar Restaurant. Having finished our meal - I decided to wash my hands and started looking for the restroom which was hidden away in the back with it's door opposite the kitchen door. As I awaited my turn outside the restroom the door to the kitchen opened giving me a sneak peek into the kitchen. The view is simply unforgettable. It was dirty, filthy, greasy and in a complete mess. Mayhem may be the most appropriate word to describe the kitchen at best. The restroom got vacant - I entered and walked right out! I am hard pressed in comprehending how Shalimar Restaurant has managed to get it's operations approved by the City of Fremont?

I was very disappointed to find hair in my food. This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about cleanliness and food safety. The hygiene standards seem nonexistent. I will definitely not be recommending this place.

They’ve gotten very rude and racist towards Indians. Used to love eating here often (the food has always been amazing and the owner is super nice), and I had been eating here for the past 15-20 years. Just can’t believe how racist they’ve gotten recently. They shouldn’t hire people who can’t live/ mesh in such a diverse society. I didn’t feel welcomed one bit and left insulted/ heartbroken, feeling the monstrosity of the man behind the cash register (front desk) who was indescribably rude the entire time. I sure as hell wasn’t going to eat here after. The ill-mannered comments were very unpleasant and unnecessary.

4 stars for the people who prepare the food in the kitchen. 0 stars for the pathetic customer service by folks sitting at the counter. Decent food for the price, the grilled food is worth the money, curries are overpriced. Customer service needs a serious improvement at the counter to improve this to a 3 star overall.

Ordered garlic naan and karahi goat curry. Garlic naan was half baked and goat curry was horrible. It used to be a good place but in recent times the quality deteriorated. Never going back.

I could give them a 0 if I could. Food horrible, ambiance horrible and the guy who’s at the front acts as if he’s doing a favor by taking your order. Upon other reviews about brain masala and biryani I decided to dive it a try along with Goat Karahi and naan. But unfortunately there is no taste in any of the dishes and it’s way too pricy for the quality of food they offer. Let’s not even go to the hygiene of the kitchen and the chef.

Beyond the bugs, the food here is just abysmally bland We went with the Shahi Biriyani, Goat Karahi, and some other non memorable chicken dish and all had absolutely no flavor or texture The Biriyani is just dry and has absolutely no herbs or spice. The chicken is also just dry The Karahi is just oil and has no spice. The meat is very low quality and just bones The only redeeming quality of this place is that it’s cheap. Would rather go to a fast food restaurant

Had a bad experience today. I have ordered Chicken Biryani 8.99$ and tandoor single leg piece 3.99$. Compared to other restaurants the prices are way cheaper. Serving food like home style. No complaints about it as I feel like home based food serving. Restaurant is clean and no complaints about their cleanliness. The quality of food is also okay but had a bad experience testing biryani here. I heard about this restaurant but they failed to provide testy food. Biryani was test less and tandoor was deep fried then tandoored . I never tried oily tandoor. Biryani chicken pieces are old and hard like stones. Food look good not always test good. I end up eating raita with rice
