Amazing food, service and margaritas. Bill made the our dinner experience even better with his friendlyness and warm welcome.
Best margaritas! La Penca Azul and La Pinata should go take lessons from Acapulco. The food is also outstanding and every dish I've tried has been a winner!
This is a great place to grab a few drinks with friends or have dinner with family, place is large inside and allows for separation of various groups. And is not too busy, just right.
I was there in 2000 while stationed at Coast Guard Island. No other Mexican restaurant as come anywhere close to your Chili Relleno. I dearly miss your food, it has been nearly 20 years of trying other restaurants and being disappointed not having a chili relleno like the ones you serve.
Service was fast and friendly for take out. He even brought it out to us since I was keeping my mom company in the car. First time there since the other owners left. Will go back.
My wife and I had dinner at the new Alcapulco Restaurant in Alameda last week. It was perfect. We were long time customers of the old Alcapulco and weren't certain we would like the new Alcapulco. We do. It has the same comfortable ambiance with service that is worthy of a five star restaurant. The food is excellent. I had the Chili Colorado—tender lean pieces of beef in their perfectly seasoned red sauce. We were pleased with everything we had. We will be back.
Got take out - nachos, chx quesadilla and bean dip. 1st time trying (based on friend's recommendation). Everything was great! Can't wait to dine in.
Loved the margs here! Good menu and the wet burrito was amazing!
I simply love this place, Im picky about my Mexican food, but this guys are the real deal, everything is good guys, please try it! The service is also great and you have to try the special margaritas.
Hi Acapulco today I was there and I just like to say thank you the beans were really really good in the past I'm sorry to say this but you're beans were not good so whoever cook them today hopefully we can keep it up everything else was delicious thank you so much
There is always great service here. The restaurant is clean and has a fun ambiance. We love the fajitas and chili verde.
I love this place. Their house margarita is made with real ingredients and the street tacos are incredible. Great happy hour too!
Great service and great experience! Came in for superbowl 52 and had a great meal. great service. incredible mole sauce and super healthy, delicious, non-gmo chicken burrito.
Delicious food. Excellent Margaritas. They could use more help. Great spot for a well prepared Mexican food lunch.
Was born and raised in northern California and it was a weekend tradition for my parents to being me and my sister here. They have amazing Mexican food. I have been there hundreds of times and the food is very consistent and very large portions. It's been years since I have been since I moved out of state but plan on going back very soon. I recomend anyone in alameda or even within an hour's drive to go. You won't be disappointed
Great restaurant. We were greeted at the door and had great service during our meal. Food was delicious and even enjoyed a few during happy hour!
This is a great restaurant. Their food is quite tasty. They have a full bar. The employees are knowledge and courteous. Highly recommended Still great mexican food!
Had the carnitas. It was delicious. Nice little place in the middle of town. Kind of your neighborhood restaurant. Has a small bar area and if you live by and want to watch a game with your friend (singular) not much room. Plenty of onsite restaurant parking and street parking.
Owner is so welcoming. Bartender is a little off putting at first, yet grows to be more friendly. Drinks are tasty and food was delicious
Had a delicious dinner at the Acapulco. We were pleasantly surprised with how good our experience. Chilli rellenos were really delicious as were the chicken enchiladas. Service was very good and the resturant was clean. I have been bothered by how dirty a popular Alameda Mexican resturant is. This will be our choice from now on
This review is certain 1984. This place used to be owned by the Quintero family. I have no clue who owns it now. back then it was the platinum standard for Mexican food. I think it now has new owners and the Quintero family is no longer involved. I probably would not go back.
Great food and great service. I got the carne asada platter and my partner got the carne asada burrito, as well as a few cocktails and the churros. The staff was super attentive and friendly. 10/10 would go again
Native Texan here. I'm pretty picky about my Mexican food. Have been looking all over the East Bay for an authentic Mexican restaurant. So glad we found Acapulco! Quality ingredients and I've never had a dish I didn't like there. Portions are quite large so plan accordingly. They gave an extensive but quaint bar right when you walk in the restaurant serving delicious margaritas. The service is always very attentive and friendly. And the cherry on top is that they play Mexican music. All around it's becoming my favorite Mexican restaurant in Alameda!
Oh Boy!!! So good. We sat in back patio, inviting, beautiful, tranquil space to eat! Enjoyed every bite of authentic food, salsa, home made beautiful, relleno delicious. Impeccable service, and Cadillac margaritas to die for! Thank you for bringing back a great atmosphere to eat and wonderfully delicious food. The best!
Service is a little slow, but.... And it's a big but.... They are so friendly and accommodating. Plus, the specials were amazing. Had a duck mole enchiladas that was absolutely delicious. The duck was crispy, and that was hands down the best mole I've ever had. I can't wait to come back and try this place again.
Comfortable setting with hospitable hosts. Some items aren't always consistent (like the Colorado dinner plate) but I've always enjoyed their specials. Would recommend their specials menu and homemade flan. It's also easy to order take out over the phone and they've only given me an incorrect take out once.
Been wanting to try this spot out for a while, now I’m mad I didn’t go sooner! The restaurant itself took me back, if you were a kid in the 80s-90s (or before) you will know what I’m talking about when you walk in! That for me was a PLUS!!! I got the Chile Verde plate, and my wife the Carne Asada. I’m very picky when it comes to Chile Verde and not every place can make it. These guys knocked it out the park! Very generous portions of everything. My wife’s plate was the same. And the Carne Asada was cooked perfect, meat was juicy, veggies were all fresh (yes I took a bite or 2!) all and all, this place is great! I will be returning coo er then later! *as for presentation (as someone mentioned)* this place to me is traditional and old school. The presentation was how good the food on the plate looked when it was placed in front of me. Sorry I didn’t take any pics. I was hungry!
It may not be the same restaunt I grew up going to.. tho the location and name remained the same...the food has totally changed. It's really good cooking as long as you do not compare it to the original. Prices are not surprisingly higher, you'll pay $16 for a dinner plate. They skimp a little on the rice and beans in my opinion, but that's in comparison and being used to having a full lunch leftover from a dinner.
This is my favorite Restaurant. It is hands down the most authentic Mexican food in all of the U.S. Seriously the Food Network needs to come to this Restaurant and see if Bobby Flay can live up to the challenge. The people, the food, the service is all top notch. I have never been to a place that has left me with so many leftovers. Honestly if you are in near or around the Alameda county area, you need to stop and eat at this restaurant. THE BEST +++
Please don't go here! I mean... It's amazing and I want to keep it all to myself. A hidden gem with the best mole I've ever had in my life. Reminded me of upscale dining in Mexico - beautiful relaxed but romantic atmosphere with friendly and professional staff. It's a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. We ordered off the nightly specials: $17 for a rich and complex duck mole enchiladas and $21 for a large portion of fajitas bursting with depth of flavor. You can certainly get cheaper fajitas, but they won't be as good. The best Mexican on the island.
Friendly staff and excellent food. Always have a good time going here. Nice small bar too if you just wanna go have a drink and watch a game
Food was great had the chile verde, was not sure I wanted to order due to last time some other place it was awful. The waitress brought a little to sample it was great. Great customer Service. Will most definitely go back. Very nice patio.
The host was very pleasant and accommodating. Even though they were short staffed and only had one server, she was amazing and paid careful to every single table.
A local Mexican restaurant in the best sense: if you are from Alameda, you will see neighbors. Comfort food in a casual setting that scratches an itch. The staff is kind and accommodating.
Such extraordinarily friendly and attentive service! Nice chips and salsa, affordable prices, and good portions. Definitely recommend the fajitas! And there's a large back patio for outdoor seating which is a hidden gem.
This place is amazing! Reasonable prices and the Chile Verde was yummy! Try the Fundito Queso and the Wine Margaritas.. DELICIOUS!! It's our new favorite spot! Thanks also for the great service Miguel!
I've been looking for an old school Mexican restaurant for about a year now and I'm so happy to have found Acapulco! I have the enchiladas cheese and chicken and they were amazing! Got chips and salsa for free which is very rare these days! The only downfall was my soda was $4 a wee bit overpriced. My server Isabella was absolutely amazing the atmosphere was wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant!
This was such a nice surprise! We thought it was part of Acapulco chain. Turned out it was a family run stand alone place. Very good food and comfortable atmosphere. I think it was a really good "mistake" lol that we found this place. Highly recommend going there. My daughter had carne asada plate, I had taco/enchilada combo. We had the cheese/jalapeno dip and guacamole/chips for appetizers. Chips were warm. Delicious! Oh, also we had a margarita and Pina colada. Also very enjoyable.
The food and drinks were good, friendly service, and classic old style restaurant. Booths were a little worn, but that added to the classic vibe.
Good food with generous portions. Prices are as reasonable as ever. Wait staff is friendly and attentive, much like the previous owners. As a 20-year patron of this restaurant, who resisted the 'recent' changing of the guard, I was pleasantly surprised with both the quality and pride of service. Would recommend, and will always remember the portrait lined walls and virgin strawberry daquiris of my youth. A timeless hang-out, run by unforgettable people!
I have been going here for 40+ years. It is family owned and run by one family, and it is a clean and friendly place. The food does not disappoint, and it is worth the drive from anywhere in the Bay Area. One of the last, really good Mexican food places. Worth a trip to try it!

Good home feeling environment. Food is always on point & service is to. Owner takes well care of customers.
We were greeted as soon as we entered the door where the friendly bartender had a good sense of humor joking with my daughter. The waitress was very friendly as well and the whole experience was very prompt and efficient. The green enchilada sauce was phenomenal! The Jalapeño Margarita was nice and refreshing. The brownie that my daughter got was warm and delicious!

a very homey very friendly restaurant we've been coming to for a decade. not spectacular but always delicious and comfortable.
I lived in the Bay area 20 years ago and I was a regular there eating very often....They were the BEST Mexican restaurant I had ever had the pleasure of dining in then and even now to the present day........ I got to know the Quintero family who owned it and was being run by the 2nd and 3rd generation..... This particular trip saw my return to the Bay area for a vacation and I just had to revisit Acapulco......I found out that unfortunately the restaurant had been sold 12 years ago and was now called Acapulco Nuevo....... So I ordered my usual fare and - alas - the food was good - better than a lot of Mexican restaurants I have tried - but it was not the original Quintero Acapulco....... The portions were adequate but I could tell the Quintero recipes did not go with the sale! Lol...... 🤔🙄😱
Food was good but the bar was slow. No fault of her own just needed another bartender. Will visit again soon.
Food was pretty good, but service was a bit slow. The place itself is really nice, and there was coloring for the kids.
Staff was very helpful and polite. They have a bar area and a regular seating area. Menu was rather simple but the food was really good.
They made flautas for me.Not on menu.Good strawberry Margarita.Awesome fried fish tacos.Good service.Happy hr at 3 w nice menu..Cute little bar.
Great food and super staff! Bill, the greeter, is worth the trip alone. The restaurant has a great little bar serving wonderful margaritas.
Over all an excellent Restaurant There's a Few things I like better at the old Acapulco restaurant But there are a couple things I like better at this restaurant The older Dressed up gentleman that is the host on the weekend is extremely friendly and very sociable ,makes you feel very welcome He's a much better host then some young kid ,I recommend this restaurant ,
Very clean and simple menu with rotating specials. Our favorite is the carnitas plate and caldo de pollo (chicken veggie soup) but their carne asada and pollo asada are very good as well.
Old school, retro vibe. The chips are EVERYthing! Fresh, crisp & flavorful. The shredded beef tastes like abuelita is in the kitchen throwing down. Make your own joy with a watermelon margarita, get a sugar rim-- you'll thank me l8r!
This place has that old school Mexican restaurant vibe that I grew up with in SoCal. Fresh salsas, classic entree offerings and great Margaritas. I wish that the chips were a little fresher but it's not like that all the time.
The mole was waaay spicier than any I've ever had. The owner came over and said he had been hearing that and would investigate and offered me compensation. I turned him down, because he's clearly doing the best he can and I believe it will get better. Everything else was great!
Could be a great place! It all depends on who's cooking! Lunch is always good! Last time I had dinner the beans were cold, the rice was dry and the carne asada was too salty.
What acquaint restaurant, it's huge inside with almost private seating areas, very clean & friendly staff but very short staffed, only one waitress who was sweet & kind, alittle slow moving though. We sat outside in the back, a beautiful day, the food was just ok, chicken in the enchiladas was dry, beans & rice were good, excellent chips & salsa, charming ambiance, I'd go back again,
Great slight "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant. The owner often stops by your table to say hello. The booths are a touch run-down but the food is good and the service is great. Be a touch wary of the specials thought. They are delicious but can often be very spicy (and I like spicy food but the shrimp was powerful beyond belief).
Service was friendly but slow to take our order, so they made up for it with complimentary drinks. Super friendly staff. They were out of several types of meat so choices were limited. It was Cinco de Mayo and I think they were busier than expected. Queso fundido was delicious and chips were fresh and warm. I will go back again and give them another chance when it's not a celebration day.
Great locals place. The specialty margaritas are a real standout. The food is standard Mexican fare at reasonable prices. This is a place you go to hang out with friends. The best thing about Acapulco is the staff who always make you feel welcomed.
Camarones a la Diabla is my go-to dish in Mexican restaurants, but it was not on the menu here. I asked our server whether it might be available, and after consulting with the chef, she reported that they could make it. The results were very pleasing. Other dishes (enchiladas, chili verde) were pretty standard fare, but quite good. Dos Equis Amber was, inexplicably, not available. Overall, this is an excellent dining choice.
We stopped in here for dinner when I was craving some nachos, the waitress was very attentive and let us pick our booth. I ordered the nachos and my husband ordered the wet burrito. The burrito was huge and he said it was very good. I really liked the nachos but would have preferred queso to the shredded cheese on top. Overall it was a solid spot and I would definitely come back!
I don't have a Mexican mom, but I guess having dinner at Acapulco would come close to having dinner at her home...good food, good portions in a place that looks like family home from the 70s, dim lighting and fixtures included. Complimentary Salsa and chips are fantastic. Chips are thin and fresh and the green roasted chile salsa is wonderful and addictive. Moving on to entrees, the chile verde is quite good, nice chunks of pork in a garlicky green chile sauce. Pair with their salsa and fresh tortillas....its very good The enchiladas are generously portioned. Also quite good. The fish tacos are terrific, especially if you drizzle some of their salsa on top. Tortillas are hand made. Some are thick. Some are thin. All are fresh and arrive piping hot Our waitress was friendly and didnt hesitate to refill our salsa and chips and checked on us. The food took a long time to arrive but no worries, conversation comes easy when you feel like you're eating at grandma's house. I think the husband runs the front and the bar, while his wife cooks. I could be completely wrong. But the kitchen might be short staffed. Hence the wait. They have a nice bar up front with a good selection of tequilas. And theres a decent sized court in the back for outside dining They have a small parking lot with about 10 spaces, but in all likelihood you'll have to park on the street. The clientele veers towards the older side, but it also tells you that the food is solid and the value is good. All in all, Acapulco is a neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Nothing fancy, prices are moderate, service is warm. They say go where the locals go. While Alameda maynot be a hotbed for Mexican food, i think Acapulco is a solid choice. I recommend it. We will return.
Always good food and margaritas. Welcoming staff and great atmosphere. Outdoor seating area is great too.

Always good food and margaritas. Welcoming staff and great atmosphere. Outdoor seating area is great too.
Cozy space for the great comfort food that Mexican food can be. Friendly, stuff staff, clean spaces.
Been going there for over 20 years....some dishes are great while others flop...sauce on tamales and masa tamales made from...yuck. Rice n beans, cheese, pork bean dip.....awsome!
Got 'Chili Colorado' plate TO GO & was satisfied, new owner AGAIN and I was trying to hold it up to original owner, Quintero family back in 1950's, no one will ever get that rating again .......saddd Tried Acapulco once again last month using DoorDash & the food was really sad! I will never order nor visit again. Otaez on Webster will please your pallets! I've eaten nearly everything they cook over the years & I still enjoy
They used to use fresh strawberries in their strawberry margarita(delicious!), however lately they are using a strawberry flavored syrup instead. Very sad.
I was not pleased with my $13 burrito and the flavor was pretty good but it was dry and the portion was Tiny. My friends plate came incorrect and was a struggle to get corrected. I can't wait to go to Juan's place in West Berkeley they never let me down with their excellent and attentive serving skills! Unfortunately Acapulco is not Juan's
We go for Mr. Bill...the host is Old School charm. He LOVES his customers and we love him. That being said, the food is alright, portions are small, and definitely overpriced. The Small guacamole appetizer was maybe 4 oz, the size of a "side" IMO, and paid $6! Margarita was good, but for $10 they could put real strawberries. As I said, we go to see Mr. Bill. He's the main attraction.
This is a really good option for authentic Mexican food in Alameda. Points for not being another taquería which there are plenty of in the area. I haven't tried it yet, but I hear this is the place to go for Chile Colorado.
Let's begin with pros- Friendly service, clean space, chips and salsa were fresh and delicious, bean dip was tasty. Their prices are very reasonable. Cons- main dishes were bland, and not fully heated. It seemed nothing was really prepared fresh, and the rice, which is a staple of a Mexican combination platter was really not good. We had enchilada, tostada, and Chile Relleno between us. I am sure being an Alameda native and remembering the delicious enchiladas which you could smell as soon as you walked in the door in years gone past, makes me a little biased, but unfortunately, we won't be back. For those who don't like bold flavors this is a great choice.
Really good food and great service. My kids loved the rice ,beans and tacos. My husband and I loved the Chile verde and the Margaritas are delicious. Edited to add: The food is still delicious I had the same thing as always the Chile verde and my husband had the Mole enchiladas and my daughter had the quesadillas. Only bad thing was my plate is a $18 plate and I feel their plates lacks presentation and they don't offer you sour cream or anything to make it look presentable. In my opinion the cheaper taquerias make an effort to serve you something that looks better.

Only thing good was their bus person... food sucked, chips stale, salsa bland waiter was clueless, got my food wrong, forgot bean dip, sad thing was, as a teenager I worked here and it is so bad now, shame Quinteros allowed this... RIP Juanitas on Park St. ... time are changing
Queso fundito and a michelada was 28.00. It was not a good drink and the fundito was way too salty and I ran out of chips. They were out of chorizo. The refried beans and rice on my friends plate looked good, but the carne asada, not so much. A few tablespoons were in my fundito, which costed 4.00 extra. I love Mexican food but this was my first and last visit.
Paid $14 for two tacos, rice and beans that lacked taste. I'd rather pay more for tastier food. Please get another cook, recipe or don't call this "Mexican" food.
My family and I have been coming here for 50+ years that tells you how good it Was... Went today and it will definitely be mind and my family's last time. My friend was throwing up an hour after we ate (meat) and I was finishing mine and the whole stem of the Chile was still attached. The waitress needs to work on her customer service maybe the bus boy can teach her he was much better. It is really ashame!
I ordered the Burrito Famoso (Wet Burrito)with shredded Beef.. the burrito lacked any kind of actual taste/flavor. It tasted watered down(literally no spices/flavor at all. It was definitely the worst Burrito I have ever gotten. But hey the place looks good and the staff is friendly
I ordered a shredded beef famoso burrito for takeout and it was awful. I couldn’t finish it. The meat was poor quality. The fillings and sauce were bland. The food was a huge disappointment and I’m sad I wasted my money.

Stay away from the steak burritos unless you want food poisoning. Ate lunch there yesterday and 8 hours later I'm throwing up with non stop diarrhea
Food poisoning (2 adults, one child)!!! Very rude response! Never got refunded (was promised)! Paid $82 (with tips) to poison my 5-year-old. Never got my money back.
There was hair in my mothers food... The wsitress was awesome but hair was on our glasses too... The glasses we ere sent back first and the salad had the same effect, once it was delivered to the table... We drove about an hour to be disappointed ... Smmfh
Our server Juan. Took almost a hour to bring our food and the restaurant was nearly empty. We were charged a server fee of $19.00 on a bill that was $104.20. It would have not, been so bad if we, would have seen the server more than 4 times; once for the beverage order, the food order, serve us the food, and bring us the check. He sat a pitcher of water on the table, and never came back to refill the drinks.
This restaurant really has gone downhill. They're starting to make the Mexican sauce like American gravy. The food is not good. They need to get back to the original mexican Alcapulco food that was presented to us in the 1950s. Now this place is actually become a bar instead of a family restaurant.
Disappointed. I used to love this restaurant, the food was really good. Last time I went, the carne asada was extremely salty and way overcooked. It used to be my favorite dish there, but it was so gross that I did not finish. I will not go back. I am very sad to have lost one of my favorite Alameda dinner places.
I was appauled when I seen a RAT while I was eating!!!! I told my husband I just seen a RAT run in the kitchen, and that we need to leave! I will NEVER eat at this place EVER again🤢🤢🤢🤢😡 Food wasn't good at all. If anyone wants real Mexican food, and great Bean Dip go to NEW MECCA it's far but it's so worth it then this nasty place. Oh and you definitely won't see any Rat's there.
Been a repeat customer coming here for many years. However, the last two visits were extremely disappointing. The food has not been good, and the service has been even worse! Went in last night with my family and had to wait 15 minutes to get seated (restaurant was not even crowded), waited another 1 hr. 15 mins to get food. Our waitress apologized telling us the food was taking so long because the new POS system was not working correctly. When the food finally arrived, the chile relleno was burnt black! It smelled horrible! Tried to speak to the manager and got ignored. I suggest you stay away because the quality of the food has gone downhill. They need to fire the cook and hire a new manager. After two bad experiences, Acapulco has lost my business for good.
I visited this restaurant hoping to experience a new culinary adventure in the area. However, my experience turned out to be quite disappointing. One of the dishes I ordered was delivered with a foul smell, specifically from the wet burrito sauce and fajitas. Upon further inspection, I discovered a hair in one of the food items. I promptly informed the waitress about the hair and the unpleasant smell. Surprisingly, she assured me that there would be no charge for the hair found in the food, despite the fact that there was no foul odor and the food itself was not visibly damaged. However, the taste of the fajitas was severely compromised. It became evident that the restaurant’s cooking practices were subpar, resulting in an unhealthy and unpleasant dining experience. I strongly advise against dining at this establishment, as their food preparation methods are not only unappealing but also potentially harmful to one’s health.
Awful food and awful service. Nothing is cooked fresh and the food was completely unappetizing. There was some sort of argument going on in the kitchen. Save your hard earned money.
There was a rotten stem and leaves in me and my childs burrito, the burrito was also cold and not warm when I picked up on time. It tasted awful, worst burrito I have tasted In my entire life. which is a shame because it was my first meal from being sick & needed food to eat with medication, and now I feel sick again to my stomach.

The current owner/manager has a serious attitude problem. We didn't' get what we ordered, and instead of making things right, and addressing customer concerns professionally, Miguel got defensive and argumentative. I grew up in Alameda, this is not the same restaurant the Quintero family ran. When people pay you for a meal, the bare minimum is expectation is basic respect.
