High end Vietnamese food, the first time a Saigonnese food style is available in the US. All their plates are unique, excelled a high end taste of the elite of Saigon before 1975. Recommended to dine in at least once a week. Bravo chef!

Dined at Bacogai during Alameda Restaurant week and LOVE this place! I will absolutely go back and bring friends. You wouldn't think you would find an amazing Vietnamese restaurant in this humble shopping mall, but it has the most amazing hot pot and shaking beef. It reminds me of the early days of Slanted Door in SF. They are unassuming and accessible. It's a smaller restaurant so make reservations, especially for a weekend night. We had the fried banana for dessert with Tucker's ice cream - amazing too.

We were absolutely blown away by Bacogai. The team at Burma informed us Kayla (former staff) started her own hot pot restaurant in Alameda! What a treasure and new edition to the food scene in the East Bay and notably, Alameda Island. This is a great restaurant to dive deeper into Vietnamese flavors. None of us have had Vietnamese style hot pot before and the ox tail hot pot broth is outstanding. On top of that, the pandan waffles with Tuckers vanilla ice cream. DELISH! Alameda sourced, Alameda supported. Coming back again to try more.

Emily and the team at Bacogai deliver a delicious and unique dining experience. We had the duck salad, crab roll, shaking beef, oxtail hot pot, and the waffle for dessert. The food was fresh, the service was prompt, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The shaking beef was particularly flavorful and tender, and the hot pot differentiated itself from what you might expect from other hot pot establishments. I will be back in the warmer months when outdoor seating on the patio is available, but it was also nice to have the hot pot on a crisp autumn day. Worth a visit (and a return visit after that)!

The food was amazing. I'll be honest, I went here thinking the food was not going to live up to the cost but I can say it was worth every penny. I had the pork hot pot and my wife had the vegetarian hot pot. I felt like the portion was humongous and I'm a guy that can eat a lot!We also got the salad and spring rolls. Both of which were almost a meal in themselves and both very delicious. Overall, the flavors are fresh tasting. Not over salted or seasoned but instead you can tell there's a lot of real cooking going on to give taste. I asked the chef/owner how she got the broth so flavorful and she said she sometimes starts the broth the night before. Would definitely recommend and will definitely come back. The inside is very nicely decorated and the tables are spaced out well, I can't even believe it used to be an old taco bell.

Awesome taste! We got here early and the place was almost empty. Within a few minutes, it was packed out!

Have you tried Vietnamese Hot Pot yet? If you haven't, give this place a try! Each hot pot is good for one person, but if you want to try other menu items, it's perfect for sharing. They have more than just hot pot too and a great lunch menu (monday-friday, 11:30am-2:30pm) that's under $20! The name, Bacogai, was born from the founders being three best friends with a passion for food and wanting to introduce Vietnamese dishes to the Bay Area communities. You can really tell how much love they put into each dish from the quality and taste. I can't find any other word except "perfect" to describe everything we tried. * Fish Sauce Wings * Lau Pork Bone Marrow Hot Pot w/ Side of Beef Toro * House Chicken Noodle Soup w/ Fresh Rice Noodles (also on the lunch menu) * Vermicelli Bowl w/ Beef Luc Lac (shaking beef) (also on the lunch menu) * Drinks: Young Coconut & Peach Iced Tea

Came here with a group of 5 and ordered the duck salad, fried spring rolls, all the hot pot flavors (except the vegan one), lemongrass pork, and pandan waffle. Everything was flavorful and presented beautifully. The duck salad was my favorite! My first time trying Vietnamese hot pot and all the soup broths were delicious - personally loved the pork bone one.

S
Shirley Peng

My friend and I ordered a duck salad for appetizer and it was delicious. For the broths we got both the oxtail and the bone marrow. The bone marrow was personally my favorite because it was very flavorful. Servings were more than enough to be full. The servers were all so attentive and kind. I will come back again!

Really enjoyed the food. The bone marrow broth was my favorite. We ended up enjoying the various appetizers as much as the hot pot so we plan to split just one hot pot between the two of us and go heavier on he apps next time.

I'm impressed! I knew I wanted to come here for a while, but I wasn't expecting this astonishing quality!! 😍 I'm going to tell all my friends, and this is now a go-to spot for any of my family visiting me. I'm so grateful for the outdoor patio and the super high quality produce. Thank you, thank you!

The oxtail broth hot pot is amazing - so much depth and flavorful . The beef in betel nut leaf is so so delicious - best I have ever tasted . This restaurant offers a menu that is different from the typical fares at other Vietnamese restaurants . I will come back again and again . Wow !

Bacogai always hits the spot when I’m looking for a cozy meal that I can enjoy while catching up with friends or family. They serve traditional Viet food but they’re known for their Viet Hotpot! I’ve been able to try all of their broths except the vegan broth. My go to is their Lau Oxtail because you get little bits of bone marrow in each oxtail piece! Each hotpot comes with a pre-set veggie & add-ins plate but the staff are always so nice and have let me substitute the ramen noodles for udon noodles before. I always appreciate how plentiful the mushrooms are and that they will replace the Sterno (heating mechanism) if it runs out. You can also get a broth refill! Usually the first one is complimentary but I’m not super clear on that policy. Make sure you use the sauces they provide for each table! It’s a fun way to mix up the flavor profile of your hotpot. I always mean to ask what each one is… but I forget every time. Maybe it’s better that way—keeps a little mystery and makes me appreciate them all the more. If you’re looking for something other than hotpot, you should try their variety of Banh Hoi (woven noodles served with mushrooms or meat and lettuce wraps) and Duck Goi-Slaw Salad! The salad is very refreshing and has that classic Nuoc Cham (Vietnamese fish sauce dipping sauce) flavor with the perfect balance of sweet and savory. When I first tried it, I was worried that the roasted duck would be too greasy for the delicate profile of the dish, but the fat was cooked out just enough to where the meat was still juicy and the skin was still light + crispy. On my most recent visit, we placed a takeout order too—we got the beef luc lac garlic noodles and summer rolls. They were out of pork for the rolls, so they doubled up the shrimp. I do hope to try it the original way next time. The peanut sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, but a little sriracha toned it down. The beef luc lac noodles were fantastic: super tender beef, perfectly cooked noodles, and an even coating of garlicky sauce. I also have to say, the staff always make the experience memorable. They’re incredibly attentive and make sure everyone feels taken care of. The layout helps with that too—low barriers between tables mean they can see the whole dining area from the main counter. The space feels open but still cozy, kind of like being at a big family gathering. Looks like they recently added clay pot dishes to the menu—I’ll definitely be back to try one soon!

An absolute must-visit! From the presentation to the service and the serene atmosphere; everything about this place is exceptional. It’s not posh or pretentious, but quaint, calming, and full of charm. The food is outstanding, and the service is warm and genuine. I’m visiting from the East Coast and already wishing I could find a spot like Bacogai in Florida. This was hands down the best meal I’ve had in California. If I lived here, this would be my go-to place. Huge kudos to the owners, another very happy (and slightly envious) customer!

Overall I liked the food here. Actually I was surprised by how much I liked their 2 appetizers. The duck salad was super refreshing and the shrimp crackers added a nice contrast in texture. It didn't have that much duck, but that made it taste lighter since duck is quite heavy. The spring rolls were crispy and tasty with the sauce. The 2 hot pots we got were good too. If you like sour flavors like my friend you would enjoy the seafood one (I really really liked the catfish in this one, the sour flavor cut the fishyness really well, and it was super tender!!), but I liked the oxtail soup too. The beef I ordered on the side was good but it was quite expensive. Very melt in your mouth.

What a hidden gem of a Vietnamese restaurant! We had the duck salad (refreshing, flavorful and substantial), the crab rolls (crispy and packed with meat) and the seafood hotpot (clear, flavorful, broth- very unique. Tons of ingredients). And for dessert, we had both the coconut pandan waffles ala mode (delicious but wished the pandan flavor was stronger) and the fried bananas (omg best fried bananas ever). Reasonable prices, great service and tons of free parking. Will definitely come back!

The flavors of the hot pot and the appetizers were good. They are individual pots, but for those of us who have smaller stomach so we can share, some people ate their own. The hot pots 🥘 come with their own set of vegetables to put in to the broth, but you can add on as much as you like. I shared a pork hot pot with Lamb add-on. We also had shaken beef that my friend really loves but she said it was different here as it was not cubed and with rice. Another friend really loved the wrapped beef logs. He said it should come with more herbs, but otherwise enjoyed it. Some people ordered wine and beer. Surprisingly, they also have sangria which one friend enjoyed two of. Had to ask for chilies and they brought a condiment set of three. Thai chilies 🌶️always enhances all my meals. We went with eight people. Made a reservation in advance. There was plenty of seating on a Thursday night. All the ingredients were fresh and everybody enjoy the flavors although the price was a little higher than we are used to paying for Asian type of food. So best for special occasions, or people who really love hot pot. Bathrooms are to the back on the right. Plenty of parking 🚗 as it’s a strip mall Kind of situation.

So this was a random find and was only craving some hot pot on a cold Monday sprinkly evening. This place popped up on Yelp while checking in the area I was in and I said let's check it out. We arrived around 6ish and there was not too many people but by the time we left, it was 3/4 full. A very modern ambiance for a Vietnamese restaurant. Nicely decorated and plenty of tables even for a big group. It's located in the old Blanding shopping area now where Nob Hills Market is where they modernized the place from my childhood days in Alameda. Alameda has been changing a lot over the decade and for the better with more places to eat. We ordered their sangria and it was pretty good. We also ordered their Beef Luc Lac. Very good portions of beef. The marinated beef was very good and we finished all of that. We also ordered their Lau Pork Bone Marrow soup, and added Wagyu beef and some enoki mushrooms! Not a disappoint. I actually thought the pot was small and that it was not enough for my husband and I to share but I was so wrong!! Very rich broth but once you add the veggies it makes the broth so much better. The broth was so good and creamy. Since it was only two of us, we couldn't order more or add a dessert to try because we were just too full from two things. Service was great! We will definitely be back to try other things. If you like hot pot style, come try this place.

Excellent and unique eatery offering Vietnamese personal hot pot, banh hoi, and all the add ons you could want for your hot pot 🍲 All their dishes is a ‘hit’ for my tastes. First time here and very impressed! Not you typical Vietnamese restaurant you would go to for pho. This place specializes in family style hot pot. I’ve had this place on my list and finally had a chance to give it a try… I went there for lunch with a couple colleagues and we all ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup with the fresh rice noodles. The broth was fantastic and it was served with the wide rice noodles which was also excellent. Service was friendly and very efficient!

I'm just going to say from the get-go that the food here deserves way more than 5 stars. So delicious! Oxtail, Wagyu, and Angus beef that tastes like butter and melts in your mouth. Lovingly prepared. Presented beautifully and served by the sweetest family we've ever met. Bacogai is a new Vietnamese and Lao spot located in a beautiful, modern space overlooking the estuary on Alameda's east end. If you love Southeast Asian food as much as we do, truly, this will be your new favorite spot. We ordered a ton of food, took our time eating it, and honestly...we were sad when it was time to go. Omg...and the desserts. So good! Cannot wait to come back!

If you love Southeast Asian food as much as we do, truly, this will be your new favorite spot. We ordered a ton of food, took our time eating it, and honestly...we were sad when it was time to go. Omg...and the desserts. So good! Cannot wait to come back!

I love Banh Hoi and my wife loves Hot Pot so this restaurant really hit the spot for us. Everything tasted so good. Service was exceptional as well. We went during weekday so no waiting at all. Highly recommend

The food here is so good. My daughter and I can't get enough of the duck salad, it's light but so full of flavor. I really enjoy the beef Luc Lac, the beef is so tender and flavorful, and my daughter always steals a couple of the woven vermicelli noodles which are tasty. She like the hot pot, and rotates which one depending on her mood. We try to always end the meal with the pandan waffles.

Really pretty personal hot pots. However, didn't really hit the spot. Service was nice, but they felt understaffed. Food and drinks took a while to come out.

Great place, just a bit pricy.

Great experience overall, a variety of great flavor and the dishes were nicely presented. Only thing was the wait was quite a bit long considering there were only a few of us there but nonetheless they can take my money:)

Visited during the soft opening phase. Was able to be seated right away and without a reservation. Order was placed quickly and food was brought out in good time. Service slowed down a bit when we wanted to order more add ons, but the place got much busier and there was only one waitress for our half of the restaurant. Overall atmosphere was casual and enjoyable. Flavor of the broth was great, and the add ons were well portioned for the price. Overall cost was on par with other hot pot places in the area. Much more authentic of an experience than other hot pot restaurants in the area. Would certainly come back.

Food is good, service and atmosphere is excellent. Hot Pots are good to share between 2 people.

My friend loves this restaurant and said their hot pot was really good so I came here with her. Service was pretty good and the restaurant looks nice. I like the decor. For food, we ordered lau ox tail (beef hot pot) and lau canh chua (sweet and sour hot pot). My friend said the beef hot pot was good, personally, I thought it was okay because I usually don't eat this hot pot flavor so don't quote me on this. As for sweet and sour hot pot, it has good flavor but not exactly excellent so I'm not sure if I'd order it again. We also ordered fried banana and a Vietnamese coffee. Fried banana batter has good flavor but it was quite hard. The good thing about it is it's not too greasy. Vietnamese coffee is just okay. Overall, it's not bad but I think it's too expensive for an okay experience.

Speial Vietamnese hot pot. Little be too salty. Food portion was not enough. Service was good.

Bacogai surprised me with their atypical take on Vietnamese food. First off, Bacogai does not have an extensive menu. You are limited to a few appetizers and entrees if you are not doing hot pot. This is not the place for you if you're looking for rice plates, banh xeo, or pho. Fortunately, we enjoyed what we ordered. We ordered the Duck Goi Slaw Salad, Crab Cha Gio, and Lemongrass Pork Banh Hoi. The salad was flavorful and refreshing. The Cha Gio was good, but the portion was a bit small. The Lemongrass pork, although a bit too sweet, was cooked nicely. We will have to come back to try their hot pot and Bo Luc Lac (shaking beef). Service was good, except that our waiter brought us our check before we finished eating. Although the waiter said "No rush", we felt like we were being ushered out the door despite the restaurant being half empty. As for the atmosphere...the space used to be a Taco Bell location so it didn't have a cozy feel. We will give it a second visit to try the rest of the menu. Bonus: They have Almanac Love Hazy IPA on tap.

Vietnam style individual hotpot. The environment is relax and chill. The food is unique, just slight westernize but still keep the basics Vietnamese essence.

I liked the canh chua hot pot. The oxtail hot pot tasted like pho, but with tiny pieces of oxtail; I wished I tried the pork bone marrow one instead. The beef la lot, which usually is my favorite, is very oily here; the lettuce that it sits on was very oily too, but I like the thread noodles. The server recommended the shaken beef so maybe I should’ve ordered that. The beef la lot comes with cha gio so you can skip ordering the cha gio since it’s heavy on the wrapper and not too much filling. By the end of the meal, I was very thirsty. The space is also very loud, and be prepared to wait even with a reservation.

Good + authentic vietnamese food, but they need to figure out the rate they bring dishes out. Bo luc lac is a quick dish to cook, and that came out first. It got cold by the time all the other dishes came out because we wanted to wait for everyone’s dishes were out before we started eating.

Food was good…but for the price… They charge so much for a small bunch of enoki mushrooms. Overall, it was worth trying it once.

Hotpot was not great. Flavor was too salty and the oxtail had no meat on it. The vegetables were also not very fresh. A bit disappointing to be honest.

I give this place a 3.5 stars rating. This place is relatively new and to me it's a Vietnamese fusion restaurant with hotpot. The place looks pretty nice and is roomy that everyone can sit comfortably. The food options on the menu are quite simple and we didn't need to spend so much time to look for what we wanted order. They also have add-ons for you to order if you feel like the portion of the hotpot itself is not enough for you. Alright let me start with pros: 1) I really liked their pork bone marrow hotpot which also came with a small variety of veggies and noodle. The broth was rich and tasted good and yet it was not salty. 2) I also ordered short ribs, wagyu beef, lobster balls, and crab sticks. The beef was quite tasty and fresh. So were the lobster balls and crab. 3) I also ordered the blueberry lemonade soda... it's just a soda flavor without the taste of lemonade. the drink wasn't bad. 4) the customer services were excellent. I enjoyed my time eating there with my friend. The only two cons I could think of are: 1) the prices of add-ons are quite expensive for a small portions, especially for the short ribs and wagyu beef. 2) To me the portion of the hotpot was relatively small, comparing with other places that serve individual hotpot. I wasn't paid attention to their auto calculated tips as I always did in every restaurant I went to to see if they intentionally put tips after the tax. So no comment on this part. Would I come back? I might to try another broth of hotpot and that's it without having any add-ons. I can go other places for short ribs and wagyu beef with good quality and all you can eat style just for 40 bucks. Oh? how much I spent in here? I spent about 140 dollars just for two people (two drinks, one appetizer, two hotpots, and 4 add-ons) in a Vietnamese fusion restaurant.

Food here doesn’t taste bad, hotpot broth is rich and flavorful and the add on beef toro tasted amazing. However we’d never come back here again giving the portion and the price of the dishes, 2 tiny egg rolls for $11 and $27 for a teeny one person size hot pot. We ordered the egg rolls, two hot pots plus a bunch of add ons (meats, veggies, tofu etc.) to share between the 4 of us, and all of us were still pretty hungry after finished EVERYTHING! What is this? Hotpot dinner for ants? Service is extremely slow. Considering we are cooking our own food in the hotpot, almost 40 minutes wait is kinda unreasonable. So, after spending almost $200 (with tips) on hotpot, we headed straight to Five Guys.

Portions are small, food over priced. The staff are great tho. Nothing special that would make me want to return. I hope the owners realize soon, that you can not just over price your product and expect people to return.

Not much choice. Super expensive. So so taste.

Service was great, price tag was slightly overpriced relative to other hot pot restaurants in the bay area, soup base was okay. The reason for the low number of stars was that I found several bugs and dirt in the produce that was brought to our table. I understand that weekends can get busy, but washing vegetables seems quite basic.

Portions are ridiculously tiny and service is slow. You can see the photos of the fishballs you get in your soup. They charge $5 for 1 clump of mushroom. The soup took 30 minutes and the sides took so long that the fire ran out before we could start eating. We paid $100+ for dinner and still walked out hungry. I hope owner understands you can’t just charge $27 for basically a bowl of broth and a handful of frozen fishballs. That aside, the soup flavor is amazing but the value is worse than any place I’ve been to.
