Great food. Some is like your own home cooking and a lot of the menu is food you may not cook at home. The price is quite good as well. Well enough selection of beer n wine too. And old fashioned as well are the girls working the tables in while in school , etc. Great workers they are! Very clean establishment as well. Defo will be coming back :-).
Their wurst is the best! Elevated versions of classic German comfort foods like schnitzel, wurst, and potato pancakes. The potato croquettes, deviled eggs and herring were also really well done. Almost everything is fried but did not taste heavy. Good beer selection as well and the garden is adorable. Highly recommend!
Have been looking for a local German restaurant since moving to the area. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Between us we had the chicken schnitzel, wurst combo and the smokehouse burger. All were winners. Super french fries with the burger. Desserts of red velvet cheesecake and kirsch torte were moist and delicious. Service was great. We'll be back many times.
We celebrated our Aunts 90th Birthday last night. The food was delicious, the service was awesome and the staff made her feel very special. Thank you for making her night memorable. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Service was prompt and friendly. I enjoyed the crab cake appetizer. It included crispy onion rings and cucumber salad. I also enjoyed a tasty McKenzie's Black Cherry Cider. My only issue was that they don't take prepaid debit cards apparently, which is what my company uses to pay for travel expenses. This caused the card to decline and I had to pay out of pocket.
Delicious food and the beer was great !!! Definitely coming back
This is our favorite German restaurant. Nice space inside and with outdoor seating (bier garden). Very nice service and excellent food. Croquette and pretzel appetizer excellent, schnitzel is amazing, and molten chocolate cake were excellent. Sauerbraten also a standout.
Went here with a large group for a family event this past weekend. Food and service were excellent. I had the Black Forest Hanchen Cordon Bleu and the Giant Pretzel appetizer. Everyone else in my group enjoyed it also. Good German beer also.
This is a really good resteraunt that I've been too a couple of times with my family. Their food is always well cooked and tastes great! Theres a really nice coziness to the resteraunt's interior, however the enclosed outdoor seating is a bit loud because of echoing and the air conditioner. There is also fully outdoor seating. All in all, a very nice establishment!
I’ve been dining here for years even through different ownership. I love a good local German place for some schnitzel ! Their beer selection is great too! All the German beers! Well probably not all but a lot ! They have a nice outdoor patio to dine out on a nice day. I give this place 5 stars but gave the food 4 stars this go. Idk the Schnitzel the last couple times wasn’t bad per se, just wasn’t great like I’m used to. Don’t take this the wrong way, if you haven’t tried this place you totally should ! It’s a refreshing different option in the neighborhood ! Staff is all really nice ! Even though we split a couple apps and the meal they even took the initiative to split the dinner without us needing to ask. Check on us for beers etc timely, nice people nice atmosphere!
We went for Mother's Day with no reservations and a fairly large group of 10. We were seated quicker than I thought. Everyone was friendly and cordial, and our waitress, Helen, was exceptional. My mom uses a walker and has some special dietary requirements, and Helen made sure she was comfortable and was very attentive to her needs. She even gave my mom a rose at the end of her meal, which was so sweet. The food was tasty and we enjoyed the outdoor seating. It was an overall pleasant experience. Would recommend.
Everything was awesome! Make sure to get a pretzel but also ask for the whole grain mustard for it! The chicken schnitzel was very good! Nice atmosphere and excellent service!
always a wonderful experience here, GREAT food, great service. a little pricey but definitely worth it!
Jagerhaus is an extraordinary vene for dining. The ambience -- perfect. The lighting and decor -- so warm and tasteful; and contributes to the fact that this is a well- run, excellent asset to Whitestone. The server -- ABOVE AND BEYOND! She delivered fresh, delicious, authentically delicious food.
Loved it!!! Found this place by accident, looking for restaurants in Whitestone area. What a happy accident!!! Great location, parking was easy to find, and beautiful interior. We had the the pretzel and croquettes appetizer, both were delicious!! Pork schnitzel was perfect, and wurst sampler was absolutely delicious!! Dessert was vanilla creme brulee and apple strudel, both delicious. Definitely going back to try more items on the menu. Staff was attentive and food presentation was exceptional.
We came here for a family party and the food and drinks were excellent! The staff were so attentive and kind. The party room is nice and sunny, great for private events!
Lost and desperate in NYC. Found this place by accident and what a wonderful surprise! Saved us from an absolute Sh*t day traveling on Southwest Airlines. Another story for another day. Tomorrow. Wonderful authentic food. Great beer and wine. Superb service. Made our day better. Thank you!!!
The food was awesome. I had the fish and chips it was really good. The wifey had the goulash which I tasted and that was excellent . The service was excellent but be please be aware it was on the pricey side.im not from NY so its closer to normal prices for folks who live here.
We had a wonderful time here for Father's Day. The food was excellent and our waiter was very attentive. We sat outside and the area was beautiful. We will definitely be back.
We went today with 2 toddler and 3 adults. The Staff was really accommodating to us. We had great place on the outside/ inside terrace. Soild Beer selection with German Staples from the draft yummy! The food was ok too. I would say some what authentic from home and surely closer than some other “German” restaurants in the area. I would certainly come back and recommend to everyone Dankeschön
Amazing food and Great service. As a German American with a mom who could cook authentic German food, this place exceeded expectations. We got the pretzel, potato pancakes and pirogies, all delicious. Pork Schnitzel, Sauerbraten, Goulash and pastrami sandwich on pretzel bun. Everything was a 10/10. Also had an amazing beer selection!
Everything from pretzel appetizer to ice cream dessert was fsntastic
The atmosphere and the food is excellent. For a traditional German experience, the bratwurst, gullash, shintzel are great choices and delicious. You get a big beer ladger its also a great place to hang around and enjoy with the family too. One of Whitestone's best restaurants. Highly recommend.
My first time there and the food was excellent .atmosphere was amazing and the service professional!I am definetly going back
Went simply for the pretzel 🥨 and beer🍺! Big pretzel! You can share it, as it's a bit pricey.... but they give 3 types of mustards. Tried the flyer sample beer...I shared it, and we had fun rating each 1-5 after each sip. We went outdoors, and the service was fast and friendly. A great place to have a simple cheers and snack.
Got the pork schnitzel. Delish. I really want to know how they cook their fresh green beans. I hate fresh green beans. Was actually disappointed when the plate came out and That was the “vegetable”, but then I tried them and they were the best green beans I’ve ever had. They were still crisp and soft at the same time, but not the usual waxy. Amazing. Waitress said they just sautee them, but idk, maybe just a really good quality green bean. Wifey had the sausage sampler. We actually weren’t a fan of the traditional sausages, but that’s on us most likely. We like the Hillshire farm in the stores 🫣 plus it was kind of hot doggy texture. Now the Brautwurst was grand. Also, waitress said the Keilbasa is her favorite. Probably more of what we like too, but I’d get the Brant’s again for sure. All the beers we tried (I think 8-9 in total) were great also. Waitress gave us a sampling. All of them were light on the belly which I like so I don’t get too full. Just good quality. For dessert had the Black Forest cake. Different from what I’m used to in Texas, but like a chocolate cake meets a cherry pie. It was nice. Oh, also had some traditional appetizers (don’t remember the name, but little potatoe pockets fried) and deviled eggs. Just a great experience and service was top notch. Enviromental is classy casual with a touch of romanticism. We really enjoyed this gem of German restaurant. We have a lot in Fredericksburg, Texas and in other areas, but this one stood out for us in our American German restaurant experiences. Well actually probably try to visit once more before we leave. Can’t say enough good things about this place. 5 workers told us to have a good evening as we were leaving. That’s definitely a cultural thing. I love to support businesses especially restaurants with a good culture.
This place showed expertise in what they do. All menu selections were tasty and well-executed. Employees provided prompt attention with cordiality. The spot is ideal for dining. We're eager to try their seasonal offerings.
Update after another visit: Always great food...they never rush you...the staff is fantastic and as always! Again had the wurst sampler...because why not! You get a little of everything that's delicious...you don't feel overly stuffed and it's a great dish to share. The calamari is good....the apple strudel was pretty good as well but go for the molten chocolate cake instead. We tried the potato pancake - the rosemary sour creme was nice - but I would pass on these next time for something different. Approx 3rd visit. The food is always delicious! This time around we had the huge pretzel with mustards and beer cheese, fried calamari (because why not) and the sausage sampler with cabbage, sauerkraut and home fries. The molten chocolate cake was great - chocolate but not overly sweet with a nice scoop of ice cream. It was a great late lunch/early dinner...very filling and satisfying. The schnitzel is also very good, crisp and tasty with mushrooms. The wait staff is not only friendly but attentive and courteous! Had to go back....by far one of my faves in Whitestone. Apparently, my bf and I just love the sampler. I enjoy German food and thought I had my fave dishes and restaurants but I keep wanting to come back to Jagerhaus. This time also tried their Fish and Chips...the fish was little salty for me but bf enjoyed. The fries! The Fries...amazing. I would go back tomorrow just to have their fries - def waited too long...should've had the sooner! Have to say - the service here is outstanding- they're always friendly and accommodating - they deserve 10stars!
This spot has slowly worked its way into my heart. This place has no weak spots in mood. Speedy help with genuine interest. All dishes taste wonderful. I appreciate the excellent service, personable staff and wonderful food quality.
I chose this place to mark another year and wasn't disappointed. Their food makes me come back! Their team performed with exceptional attention. The vibe is wonderful, the place is well-maintained, and servers are friendly. The workers here demonstrate true attentiveness and helpfulness.
Fantastic selection of beers!! Service is great and on top. Fried calamari is amazing. Sausages a bit salty but I tend to find things too salty sometimes. If you want to visit a beer garden and don’t want to go to congested city areas- VISIT HERE!!
Love this place. My family and I frequent this place now when we crave the pretzel and homemade ceaser salad with some good old German draft. The first time we came here was for our anniversary. The portions didn't disappoint. I don't recall the name of the fish plate I got but it was great. I like that they have indoor and outdoor option. Makes it a definite go to spot for the summer.
My friend suggested this spot one rainy summer night lately and we had a lot of fun. The restaurant was clean, comfortable and cozy. The servers were very friendly, relaxed but attentive – if you can imagine what that looks like! I had the cauliflower dish and my friend had the schnitzel. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. I thought the roasted cauliflower and hummus dish quite imaginative. It was a flavorful vegetable dish. I can imagine having a drink here with friends, at any time and in any weather. The prices are fair for Queens NY, with entrees that cost about $20.
What can I say except that you have to come here. The meals are reasonably priced and come fully loaded. The samplers alone are more than enough for two people. And, if you like beer, they have a nice selection on tap and flights so you can taste every one. The service is courteous, prompt, accurate and friendly. From the moment you walk in you're welcomed like an old friend. If you've never had German cuisine come and try it out, you won't be disappointed. If you're unsure, the staff is ready to accommodate.
Came on a Saturday night with a large group of family. Waitress was great about bringing food for the baby first. The food was delicious - I had the chicken schnitzel and husband had the Paprika schnitzel - he won. The table shared some pretzels, which were delicious - the cheese sauce was awesome!
While some delicious German grub, this place is better off as a place to get a pint (or a liter) rather than its food. While some dishes shine, other fall flat becoming a mediocre affair. The German theme is played out okay as well. Ecliptic German music plays, but the waitresses are dressed fantastic. Quick service and clean. I don't know how "authentic" a German place it is but its definitely German themed.
Nice German restaurant. Great service.
The food here was very delicious very authentic weiner snitzel was very good not too heavy and very tender and the potatoes and green beans were good as well and the Hungarian goulash was very tender as well however the portions could be a little bit bigger and the AC was definitely struggling to work but the staff was very friendly and that made it better. Overall it was a good experience if the portions could get a little bigger it would get 5 stars for me but definitely great if you are craving German
Very well prepared food.. the grilled octopus app. Is pricey.. but it definitely tasted great.. which in my book is worth the money.....my wife had a delicious sirloin. Im a fatty steak guy.. but had the jagrburger.. fantastic.. ..Helen was incredibly helpful and nice. Next ti.e I go i want to try the smoked pastrami rueban.. or the jagrschnitzel .. ill be a regular.... I live 5 min away..... oooo plus Bavarian pretzel with ocktoberfest beer.. yum
Very tight quarters to dine! Main courses ok, but very pricey. Appetizers were great. As you can see, my main course was 1 of the specials for the night. Pasticcio, Greek Lasagna. Why I ordered something Greek in a German Restaurant is beyond me! I'll never do that ever again! It's like ordering Italian in a Chinese place...I will commend the whole staff on their attentiveness & service!!!
Like this place near work. Love sausages and affordable bottle. Got good outdoor area as well.
The restaurant is owned and run by Greek couple and the cooks are South American/ Mexicans, but you wouldn’t know it. Food is made very good. I’ve been there many times. Just last I went. Atmosphere and decor beautiful.. out side terrace.
Came in here for a quick drink. The bartender was very knowledgeable of all the beers, which was helpful. She was also really sweet and pleasant to chat with. Beer prices weren’t bad at all. I didn’t order any food but I did have the caramel Creme brûlée which was sooo yummy. I will definitely stop by to have food sometime soon.
A must visit! This is my second time here. This place offers a great selection of traditional German beers in the “boots” or stein! The food here is very good. It’s also very traditional German food but they also offer some American options such as salmon and burgers. The ambience is comfortable and service is very great. Friendly staff!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. When we arrived, we were seated immediately, and we're given the choice of inside or outside. We chose to stay inside. We ordered the the Wurst Sample Platter which is a platter with a bratwurst, knackwurst, and a bockwurst. All three is tasty in its own right, especially paired with their mustard. My wife had the Pork Schnitzel, crispy pork chop doused in a gravy. So good! And for dessert, we had their lava cake; perfectly melted chocolate inside the cake. It went great with the vanilla ice cream.
Visited here yesterday with friends - 4 people in total. Wait staff was friendly and prompt. Tables are spaced out and we were seated at a picnic style table with umbrella (which is not very comfortable, and can easily be replaced with their tables and chairs from the inside to keep patrons more comfortable). We ordered the Fried Calamari and Pretzel appetizer which were ok. We also ordered burgers which come with fries. The burger, while thick and juicy, was very salty as were the fries. The grapefruit beer is refreshing for a summertime drink. Overall it was ok - but for a $17 burger with fries - the top note and flavor shouldn't be salt. Based on this experience, I wouldn't return.
Good food and delightful staff. Atmosphere is nice. Still, one of those places that leaves you asking yourself "that beer was HOW much?!". It adds up fast to $75/pp following tax and tip -- prices are about 1.33x what I expect for most things (even relative to not-terribly-distant Nadine's). Nice given its location as an every now and then spot to visit as an "in between" for LI and Westchester.
I would be embarrassed to bring my German in laws here to be honest. Perhaps Im spoiled, but the spatzle and home fries were both disastrous. At least the servers were charming. The jäger schnitzel is more of an Austrian schnitzel, lacking the bread crumb and crispy crust I so very much desire.. The wursts were authentic and so were the sauerkaut. The ambiance, music and the garden was definitely a pro, but does not make up for the quality of good we were served. In regards to price, the value just was not there. Nice for a one time thing, but won't be returning sorry. I really tried my best to like this place. 3 stars and that's me being generous.
Came here on the evening before Thanksgiving and was able to quickly get a table, surprisingly there was a decent number of people coming into the restaurant throughout the night. My favorite food of the night was the pierogi, it tasted amazing. The pretzel was good and tasted better than actual pretzels I tried in Bavaria, although I think the sauce selection could’ve been better. We enjoyed 2 of the 3 wursts from the sampler. The Jäger Schnitzel was meh, the outside was not that crispy and the sides (potatoes and string beans) were forgettable (for what it’s worth, the person who I gave the leftovers to REALLY liked the schnitzel). Definitely recommend the Augustiner Hellis, it’s great to see a selection of Bavarian beers here. Would love to see Radlers too. Overall, the food was alright and the service was good. Don’t think I would come back here too often since it doesn’t really seem worth the price to me, but cool to have authentic Bavarian food here in Queens.
I had the Jäger Schnitzel and friend had the Weiner Schnitzel. Both dishes were tasty, though the presentations were lacking. The green beans were on the soggy side and the potatoes looked like a side of breakfast home fries. Along with half a liter of beer, my portion of the bill came out to be $50 including tips which I’d say is pricey for what I received. Service is nice and cordial.
Quality of food and service changed with new management. Bavarian pretzel was still decent, but the burger dish is nowhere near what it once was. Service was on the slower side as well. Sad because this was a great spot the wife and I would frequent when we lived in the area.
I realize things are tough right now do to the current situation but not quite as tough as the Wiener schnitzel which was served cold and Obviously defrosted in a microwave. I know that this is a pretty popular watering hole and my spaten was pretty good. Should have gotten the chicken cordon blue Like my friend recommended but this is a German restaurant not French. Also very overpriced at $27.95. There are much better choices out there for German. I recommend manor October fest in forest hills. Better quality authentic German food great service much better selection and prices. Don’t want to be mean but I just don’t understand all the 4 and 5 star ratings.
Have been here a few times in the past and never really had any complaints till today. 4 out of the 5 of us were served our entrees while the 5th person's didn't come out for another 20 minutes. We saw a server enter the room holding a plate or two of food, looked kind of clueless where it was meant to go and think they gave the entree to the wrong table. The same person tried to put two dinners on our table during dessert. Mistakes happen, but our server was clueless and just making up excuses instead of just trying to make it right or apologize. Overall a negative experience, but will probably give it another chance due to this being the first time we've had an issue and the food is very tasty.
Expected authentic German food but was heavily disappointed. The spatzle tasted like it was made in a dish washer. The sauerbraten was dry as dust. The cod was obviously old because it smelled. But the apfelstrudel was decent. Overall we left wishing that we never went. Way too overpriced for the quality of the food.
The food was disgusting. The Jager schnitzel, was old and very tough for veal. I seemed that the breaded veal "cutlet" was siting in the ocean of mushroom gravy for quite some time. That is the first indication that this is not made to order The breading was nothing short of tasteless mush This dish isn't fooling anyone it has been sitting in your kitchen for days if not weeks On the upside the potatos had a nice flavor , at least the bits that weren't covered in gravy.. The string beans were way overcooked and again covered in gravy. Gravy is used to cover up short cuts and mistake made in preparation of the food. The gravy should be used to accent the meal not drown it Reheated food is just unacceptable when paying 30+ dollars for a meal This is shameful do better Please do your self a favor...dont order here if its for delivery
