I love this place, it's one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I like the buffet, because it's a great opportunity to sample new Indian foods. I've always had a good experience, whether it's eating at the restaurant or picking food up to go. The people who work there are all very nice and welcoming. I could eat the naan and chai tea all day long!

We've gone to Shalimar regularly since it first came to Delmar. The staff are wonderful, and the food is fantastic. They have a ton of great vegetarian options, and the chicken/lamb curries are favorites. Our kids love several of the appetizers, including samosas, naan, and papadum. We would highly recommend going.

Food is phenomenal and is consistently good. They use high quality products and the service is always top notch! One night, I forgot two drinks on the counter and they called me to tell me I forgot them. Highly Recommend!!

My first time trying Shalimar and I was not disappointed. The food was great and the service was fast and friendly. Ordered off the lunch special and received some pretty big amounts for a great price. Definitely a must try place to eat some amazing food.

This is hands down my favorite Indian place, the food is literally mouthwatering. Seeing it arrive to our table on those steaming hot platters... The smells... Just so yummy. However, it's the really warm, simple atmosphere is what makes it my favorite small place to go to with my family. There's no nonsense about this place, just simply great food, service, and a laid back environment that makes us sit down and eat and talk for hours. We feel comfortable there and I think that's really important. Also, they are extremely consistent, trust me you will not regret this place. Favorites: Muhummara with naan and Lamb Boti Kebab.

Was happy to see they are open for dining in, Leo is a real sweetheart, personable and accommodating, made a dish that wasn’t even on the menu for us. Delicious authentic Indian food & nice atmosphere, we will make it a point to come back here next time we are in the area.

FANTASTIC both for dinner and for the lunch buffet. The lunch buffet has a very good selection, but I'll be brief because I haven't been to it in a while. For lunch the place is generally quite busy, and I can definitely see why! For dinner it's much quieter. We were one of only two or three tables. (Though this was a Tuesday night -- weekends might be busier.) I'm autistic and easily overstimulated by noise, so the quiet was AWESOME. The menu is extensive with at least four different kinds of meat (including goat) and vegetarian options for almost everything. They can also make anything on the menu not-spicy, which again is good for people with sensory sensitivities. Our server was also great and suggested awesome food when we didn't know what to get. And the food itself - EXCELLENT! I had chicken palak (chicken with spinach), sweet lassi (sort of yogurt?) to drink, and gulab jamun and kheer for dessert. Everything was great! Definitely will be coming back here again and again! Edit: I forgot to talk about the prices. Dinners are $13-16. More than I usually want to spend, but honestly the food and the whole experience was worth it!

I recently tried Shalimar for the first time and loved it. The owner was very nice and helped me to order on a gluten free diet. The owner himself of gluten free, which gave me a lot of confidence dining here as a person with Celiac disease. The gluten free samosas and naan were great- Shalimar is the only restaurant in the capital region offering these items gluten free as far as I know. As for the rest of the food- it was delicious, I ordered a lamb dish and palak paneer. There were plenty of options for me to choose in the entrees (most if not all were gluten free) and even some sweets that I could have (also delicious). If you are gluten free and looking for a safe, delicious place to dine, or just want some great Indian food I highly recommend Shalimar in Delmar.

The lunch buffet was great. The food was fresh and there were a number of lunch options. The food was mainly Pakistani / Indian cuisine. Some examples include: chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, vegetable korma, rice, homemade rice pudding. I've been to Shalimar a few times over the last few years and the restaurant never disappoints.

AN ABSOLUTE GEM IN DELMAR!! My boyfriend and I came and we had an amazing experience. We had the vegetable samosa, which was fantastic. For our main, we had the chicken tikka masala, which is highly recommended along with the jalapeño and cheese naan bread. Everyone was very kind and you can tell they love to be here. Amazing overall, would rate higher if I could!

We were very impressed with the food, how neatly it was all packaged (separate meals packaged in separate brown bags, sides in one, soups in another) and it didn’t seem like there was any difference in quality compared to if we had dined in. Shalimar has been my favorite restaurant for a very long time. I was grateful that they remained open for take-out during the pandemic and am so happy now that the restaurant has opened again for in-person dining. The owner, Leo, is very kind and friendly. Knowing that I eat a dairy-free diet, Leo is always attentive to be sure that I'm ordering a dish that is appropriate for my diet and, when asked, makes recommendations of new dishes for me to try. If you've never been, I'd highly recommend trying this restaurant.

This is the best Indian food in the area! I love this place and they truly never miss. I ordered the Tikka Masala, Naan, Chicken Tandoori, Chili Chicken, and Spinach/Lentils. It all came out in a reasonable timing and it was all fresh, warm, and so so tasty. I especially like the serving size. They serve the lunch special in individual bowls, but when you put it on your plate it is at least 2 plate fulls. I have been coming here for 7 years now and I can't believe this is my first time finally writing a review. I must also note the cleanliness, and customer service. We are greeted so nicely by the sweet man who works here every time and he is more than happy to tell us about the food, explain everything to us, and more. I am so happy and will be here plenty of times again. Please go here and support this small business!!

I've been going to this location for a while now and I cannot think of anything to complain about. It's always my first option for Indian. The food is always fresh, delicious and full of flavor. Not to mention, the staff are extremely friendly and give great service. Definitely recommend the lunch buffet, especially during your lunch break- you can get it to go. Don't forget to get some of the Baklava.

Had a great experience here. The food was delicious, I’m a vegetarian and ordered the vegetable curry and spinach and lentils with the vegetable biryani with a side of their homemade hot sauce. Highly reccomend to anyone in the area to come in for their lunch box menu. Dine-in experience was great, welcoming and friendly environment and an overall great experience.

We go here for lunch about 3 times a month for the buffet. Very informal, perfect for lunch. The food is tasty, spicy and healthy, the place is clean, and the staff and owner are very inviting. The place has good vibes. Love the rice pudding. You need it after to cool down.

Absolutely outstanding food. Food is always consistently packed with flavor and cooked just right. It's now a regular lunch stop of mine I go almost every week. Owner is very professional and friendly. Even when he is busy he always has time to smile and show his appreciation for your business. Other staff may not be as personable as their boss, however they are polite and obviously work hard. Beautiful restaurant and even better food! I have never been let down by this place’s attributes as a location. I like to look at my eating experience at a restaurant on three general attributes: 1.) Cleanliness 2.) Quality Customer Service and Welcoming 3.) The quality of the food including freshness, taste, quantity, and overall flavor There are not many places that can fully encapsulate all three of these traits but Shalimar in Delmar does it so well. I could go on and on about it, but you should see for yourself! They are back open following the COVID-19 Pandemic and the dining area is a perfect spot to grab lunch in between shifts, come with your family, or just to grab a meal by yourself! This restaurant is by far my family's #1 comfort food place. And the food is just consistently and confoundingly good. We are longtime customers but we made even more room for their place in our hearts during the COVID shutdowns... thank god they offered takeout and curbside pick-up! During that era the owner was clearly concerned about his livelihood but always welcomed us with in his usual friendly and good-humored manner. I'll bet we ate Shalimar twice a week for months on end. Missing the buffet at the moment but so happy to sit down and eat inside now. Highly recommend!

Rohen is the absolute best! He consistently delivers the best service, has a great attitude, and makes sure everything in your order is correct. I've been here multiple times, and it's always enjoyable... but it's even more amazing when Rohen is there! Delivery was fast . The Mulligatawny Soup was very tasty as was the Samosa Chat . The Lamb Madras was flavorful and spicy but best of all was the Tandoori Chicken it was the best I've ever had ,so moist and tender wist I could order this every day .

We decided to try the lunch buffet to get a feel for this place. I have celiac and had been recommended to try this place by a number of people. Upon arriving, we were very pleasantly greeted, seated, and were informed that everything on the buffet except the naan was safe for me to eat. Not only is the regular menu extensive, THEY HAVE GLUTEN FREE NAAN TOO! Overall, the food was delicious, the price was excellent, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and I had a great experience.

A great place for lunch due to the good variety of dishes in their buffet. The food trays are promptly replenished, the personnel is courteous and quick with the orders. It is a very popular place so it can get packed during the lunch rush hour, but it is easy to find a table before 11:30am and after 1:00pm.

We went here on a whim for lunch one day. I didn’t have much experience with Indian food, but their express lunch menu made it so easy. The food was outstanding!! So much flavor and cooked to perfection. All for $9 lunch!! We decided to go back for dinner last night (it was that good we couldn’t wait to return) and again had a fantastic meal. The menu clearly explains the differences in food and the staff was super friendly and helpful too. I could go on and on about the food. So many flavors and simply outstanding. My 15 year old said this is ranked as her favorite food. Do yourself a flavor…I mean favor (sorry couldn’t help the pun) and check out Shalimar. You will be so glad you did!

The food is phenomenal and deserving of a fine dining experience. The dinning room could use some tint on the windows to block the harsh sunlight distracting from the decor, sure it’s fine in the evening. The place doesn’t feel fancy due to being in a strip mall but my goodness, the chief knows how to cook. Usually buffets are so so, but this is a buffet of perfectly seasoned dishes. Will definitely be adding this to our list of places to order dinners from :-)

Delicious buffet for lunch with plenty of vegetarian dishes. There were also chicken dishes for those who require meat. I only wish the lighting was a little brighter. As an older person, it was hard to see what I was eating.

Fantastic restaurant! If you like Indian food, I think you’ll be hard pressed to find a better place than this. The express lunch that they have until 2:30pm is probably the best deal you’ll get anywhere else other than a buffet (which will hopefully be back here soon). I personally eat more than enough food for probably 2-3 people a day and their express lunch fills me up, is made with the same great quality every time, and comes out very quickly. Must stop local restaurant!

These guys kick ass. They must be responsible for 150 of my 300 lbs having been a staple in Albany as long as I can remember.. Not sure if it is new or what but you better put another notch in your belt fizz cause you can get take out on the lunch buffet, pay by weight. They give you some hot out of the oven nann (bread) and a cute little keer in a coleslaw cup. Maybe even a fork if you are playing your cards right. For dinner, try the Shrimp Palak. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Stopped here for lunch on July 4 weekend as our usual go to place in Delmar was closed. After perusing the buffet we both went for it! One vegetarian one not. Naan, vegetable korma, tandoori chicken, two kinds of rice, vegetable pakoras, cabbage, etc etc. plus salad makings. Gulab jamon for dessert. Delicious and well worth $15. Somebody complained about bottled iced tea? Be grateful that they had unsweetened ice tea. Some cold items available for take out. I got a container of raita that was creamy and delicious but too much dill! We will be back!

Love this place! Had a prime rib debacle on Christmas Day and my family pivoted to Indian takeout. I was so thankful they were open, had food ready quickly (no preorder needed) and were pleasant! I love mulligatawny soup and they do it perfectly. My family also shared samosa chaat, onion and jalapeño cheese naan, falafel, chicken tikka masala, palak paneer and lamb Rogan Josh. Everything was chefs kiss. A highlight to an end of a stressful Christmas meal. Can’t wait to eat more!

Had a great meal today, the weekday lunch buffet, which was well stocked with a lot of variety of foods. This place has a ton of flavorful options for vegetarians. This was my first visit to the buffet and I was impressed with the food and the kindness and service of the staff and owner. I’ve had take out a few times, and the delivery has always been hot and quick! I will definitely be taking friends with me here the next time I come in. This is a photo of my second plate, where I tried to grab all the stuff I missed the first time around. ;)

I like vegetables and I found it here. Thank you for veg dishes. I really appreciate when the host offered to provide fresh kheer (we were end of the buffet time) while I was filling my plate with leftover kheer.

I go there for the lunch buffet. I'm a fan of Indian buffets. Inexpensive, tasty and fairly healthy. Pretty typical spread for the capital city area. Naan, Pakora (fried apps), salads, sauces, rice, veggies, chutney. Chicken entrees and rice pudding for dessert. I don't go very often as its a bit out of my way, but it's definitely worth the $10 for lunch! Friendly staff. Recommneded.

There are better Indian restaurants in the Albany area, but for takeout, Shalimar in Delmar is the most convenient for me, and is quite good. I have only been to one other lunch buffet at an Indian restaurant in the Albany area, and though it, too, is good, Shalimar in Delmar is better because of greater variety.

My daughter and I went for lunch. The food was fresh and the variety was good. Our favorite part was the hot tea! It was so delicious we inquired about purchasing some to take home. Unfortunately, it isn’t available for sale that way - it is made in house from loose leaf tea and different spices. Highly recommend trying it. Look forward to returning soon!

Took my friend here for his birthday. We ate in the restaurant as there was no one else dining in at the time we got there.. The Staff were very friendly. The food was good and came out relatively quickly. The Mango Lassi tasted so fresh and delicious. The samosas were good and a nice size even though only 2 come in an order. My friend loved the salmon briyani and ordered it rocket level spicy. Mom got a beef dish (cannot remember the name). I had chicken Kuna (not sure I spelled it right). It was my first time trying it and it definitely had a kick. I don't really care for spicy food but I did manage to finish my leftovers. Overall it was a good experience.

I normally get indian food at another place but decide to try something new but I was pretty disappointed. The portion sizes are very small, although I will say the chicken tikka masala had a lot of chicken in it, but the flavor was also a bit lack luster compared to my go to . The naan also wasn't that great which surprised me.

My visit on April 1 was no joke. My wife and I had a wonderful dinner, which means the food is inconsistent. Last time I had some issues. Not so today. Last time: Placing a call to the restaurant without call block is a problem. If the call is blocked the phone connection just crackles and there is no recording to tell a customer to unblock the number. The food was warm, not hot. Portion size was not abundant.

I’ve liked the food, but since when are you guys so stingy w sauces? I spent over twenty five dollars, specifically asked for extra brown and all I got was one brown and one green. I don’t like green, didn’t ruin the meal just a let down. Also took a long time for a week night. Maybe it’s a fluke so only one star.

Returned to this place after a long hiatus. The food is pretty tasty.. certainly not the best Indian, though, for the price quite reasonable. A recent experience left me and a friend puzzled and probably not to return. When my friend asked for another drink as the ice tea received was not good, they gave him an incredibly hard time, and he would need to pay for the one received and the new one. It was a very odd moment and disappointing. A manager eventually came out to try to remedy the scenario, but by that time, it was past the point of no return. So decent food, the service definitely needs some work!!

Even after that I continued to return because I thought well maybe the soda doesn't mix well with the msg nope still had a reaction. So I went back again and I ordered a bottle of water. It did it again. This time I could barely make the drive home. I looked up my symptoms and it was a reaction to msg. It was like having vertigo and hot flashes all at once. It must of been alot because to my knowledge I am not allergic to msg. After my last visit I feel I've tortured myself enough and must say goodbye to my favorite place.

It was ok.. not the best Indian around.. flavors are … off? Idk how else to describe it. Got Chana masala and it tastes like cream based sauce & we also got chicken vindaloo and it’s spicy because of chili oil instead of actual spices and peppers. —- have had many Indian locations including more authentic in the city and this was probably the most Americanized Indian I’ve had in a while. Was going to be a three-star review. Then I used the restroom. First off, don’t expect to be greeted as you enter. You have to take charge! Find a table and get started I guess. Buffet was average and had a good variety of options, but everything was very mild/bland. The only stand-out item was the seasoned cabbage, which I hadn’t tried before but had a good flavor and was cooked nicely. Even the spicy onion chutney was surprisingly not-spicy. Naan wasn’t great (flat, dark, not pliable), tikka masala was very runny, chicken chunks slightly chewier than ideal, pakora very heavy and dense. The restroom was not a nice place. I tried wiping up the large amounts of dribble on the seat but it was dry and crusted. I looked for cleaning products but found none. Ew. Ew. Ew. I decided to go elsewhere. They say the restroom is a good indicator of the cleanliness of a kitchen and if that’s only 10% true I would not return for another meal.

the food was alright but lacked seasoning compared to other Indian restaurants i've eaten at. but thats not the biggest issue. the owner dropped off my food without drinks. they told me to call back the next day because they were closing which is fine. when i called the following day i dont know who i spoke to but when i asked for a refund first i was told okay they will contact uber than a few seconds later he changed his mind saying "he doenst have time." moral of the story is if they make a mistake you have to do something they wont resolve the issue they created. it was pretty rude. i emailed uber about what he said and i got a refund.

Prefacing this with I love Indian food and have eaten it for years in NYC, India, London and DC. Ordered on a delivery app and spent $64 for daal and chicken with spinach, nan and some condiments. The rice is flavorless, wet, lacking everything that makes one excited about basmati rice. With the rice being so disappointing it’s no surprise the rest was as well. The yellow daal is undercooked. The chicken and spinach are just ok because the spices are not nuanced. Thankfully I paid extra for the condiments because they actually enhance the flavor and make it edible. Doubtful the nan was light and crisp before being wrapped in aluminium…it’s too dense. Not sure why this place is so highly rated unless I just caught them on an off night.

We tried to order food from Shalimar. The person who answered the phone was so rude that we will never order from this place again! We have special dietary needs in my family. When my daughter asked him about some ingredients in the dishes we wanted to order, he replied that he could not go over the ingredients and told her to look online! The online menu was unclear, which is why we called in the first place. His tone and demeanor was unbelievably impolite! It shocked me how rude he was, over something so simple. I would give 0 starts if that were possible.

I've been eating here for over 20 years. This food is absolutely horrendous take my advice. Stay far away. It's absolutely terrible. It's not the shalamar we all know and if they sold to somebody else they should have let us known $66 down The drain

(There was a very small amount of rice left on my plate) and they scolded me and told me they would have to charge more money in front of other customers. They also said i took to much meat. I dont understand this because i only ate one plate even though this is a buffett. I will never eat here again. BEWARE!.

Terrible takeout. No flavor at all. No seasoning in rice, no flavor or veggies in the masala. Paneer was dry and hard. Even the garlic naan was non remarkable. I would not recommend and will not go back.

Hi just called to confirm the price of 2 meals , because the person on the line couldnt speak clearly he ,got very snotty. I only called because the prices werent listed on the menu. Word of advice if you want to keep your business thriving drop the snotty attitude you wont be in business very long. I use to like this restaurant after the nasty transaction over the phone im annoyed and will never step foot in that establishment again .

The worst Indian food I have ever had. Zero spices or flavor of any kind. My Tikka Marsala was like Donald Trump, orange and tasteless. The chicken was rubbery and undercooked. The rice was so hard it sounded like a hailstorm when i poured it into the bowl. Huge 2" chunks of nearly raw peppers for no reason. It tasted like nothing so i put store bought tikka masala seasoning i had at home on it just so i could eat it. This is a real shame because the troy location has always been good. Zero stars. Worst Indian food of my life. I put some in the dog bowl but the dog won't eat it either.

ordered from grubhub...Shalimar outta be ashamed to call this food anything other the nasty...Who is cooking in your kitchen? no spice..no flavor..no nothing!!..That was not Naan bread...that was pita bread you warmed up. yall got to stop this. Ive had pleanty of Indian food in many differnt places...NEVER EVER ! ! have Ive had bad Indian food until today!!

I'm so sorry but this was the worst Indian food I've ever had. The sauces were "broken" and bland. The dahl lentils were hard and not cooked. The samosa crust was not crispy and it's filling was mush. The man working the counter was the opposite of welcoming. Worst $120 I've ever spent. And this was me trying to be nice. Don't do it.

I am disappointed by the unprofessional response to my honest feedback regarding my recent visit to your establishment. As a paying customer, I believe I am entitled to share my experience without being dismissed as providing "bogus" feedback. During my visit for the lunch buffet, I paid $16 for a meal that left much to be desired. The buffet options were lacking, with many trays nearly empty. Despite watching other patrons request fresh items, the replenishment was slow, and several trays remained empty of meat, containing only sauce. Moreover, the iced tea served in a bottle felt impersonal and did not align with the dining experience I expected for the price paid. I believe in providing constructive criticism to help businesses improve, but your dismissive response implies a lack of concern for customer satisfaction. I urge you to take customer feedback seriously and strive to enhance the dining experience for future patrons.

Horrible tasting food (I’m Indian-American). Place looks run down and unsanitary; and price for portion sizes, as many have confirmed, is abominable. Don’t go here! See pics- this cost $20 with taxes. Overall a waste of my evening. That’s time and appetite I’m never getting back. I actually went back (40 miles driving altogether with two trips) and returned the food for a refund as a matter of principle (have a video to prove it). The guy proceeded to record me without consent 😬. This is not surprising given how the owner responds to any critical reviews below- calling them bogus and finding faults with the customer. Absolute nonsense.
