Han Dynasty was a great quality start to my winter visit in NYC! The space was intimate, comfortable, and spacious - even with it being located within a food hall! Service here was similarly excellent in terms of being very prompt, efficient, and friendly! Having traveled across the country for most of the day, both of us ordered (probably) more than was necessary - nevertheless, everything was absolutely EXCELLENT! My feelings on every food dish: Wonton in Chicken Broth - perfect heat and delicious texture/flavor Hot Sauce Style Entree - just the right amount of heat, flavor, and absolutely delicious Scallion Pancake - arguably the most disappointing plate of the evening..but still very solid quality. Just a little dry. If I'm being honest, I am not fully sure of everything we ordered (it was a lot, we were hungry!!), but I DO KNOW that we loved everything we had while patrons of this establishment! Oh yeah - AND they give you a complimentary pot of tea for the table, which I found to be a lovely touch! Unsurprisingly, I highly recommend giving it a try!
Han Dynasty is a great spot if you enjoy bold, authentic Sichuan food with serious flavor. The dishes are packed with spice, heat, and that signature numbing sensation that makes Sichuan cuisine stand out, especially favorites like the dan dan noodles and dry pepper chicken. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the menu lets you choose your spice level, which is perfect whether you’re easing into heat or going all in. The service is very attentive, with staff frequently checking in and making sure everything is exactly how you want it. The atmosphere is casual and lively, making it a solid choice for both group dinners and casual nights out.
I had a great experience at Han Dynasty, especially thanks to the dry pepper chicken—it was packed with bold, savory flavor, perfectly spicy, and exactly what you want from classic Sichuan cooking. The balance of heat, crunch, and seasoning really stood out and kept me coming back for more. While this location isn’t quite as polished or spacious as some of the other Han Dynasty spots around New York, it absolutely holds its own. Given that it’s located inside a busy mall, the team does an impressive job delivering quality food and a smooth experience despite the constant foot traffic. Overall, if you’re craving authentic flavors and a reliably delicious dish like the dry pepper chicken, this location definitely delivers. A solid choice and well worth stopping by.
I was walking around Downtown today and I saw this place on Google Maps. I took it upon myself to give this place a try. When I entered I was greeted and seated by a young lady. The place looks very nice. Everything is clean. After 3 minutes, my order was taken by a young man. I ordered scallion beef with a side of white rice and chicken dumplings in chili oil. The chicken dumplings come in 4. I loved the flavor so much. The chili oil wasn’t too spicy. The dumplings were perfect and soft. I never really had dumplings before, but this is something that I would try again. I give that a 8.5/10. However, I didn’t really enjoy the scallion beef. The scallion and onions was overpowering the meal, but the beef was tender and quite flavorful. I give it a 6/10. Something was missing there. I tried to add soy sauce and duck sauce to see what could be different but idk it just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t even finish it😭The white rice was perfect though. Fluffy to my liking. The customer service is amazing. They’re quick, swift and are glad to answer questions. One of them even helped me to use a chopstick. Honestly it was the only meal I had that day, so I can’t really judge but they could definitely do better and add more kinds of food to the menu. I feel like I wasted money though. $40 for one meal and 4 dumplings?!😐😐Do I recommend? Not really, but if you could try one thing is the dumplings in chili oil; that I recommend.
Oldest child and son in-law treated us to lunch. Food was delicious but price was higher than I expected. Nevertheless the staff was fantastic and food (13 dishes) came in a timely manner. We ordered dumplings, beef, fish, deep fried shrimps, general Han chicken, Dan-Dan noodles, egg plants, pea shoot tips. Every dish was well made. Overall a great experience and all 8 of us left with a great feeling.
This location maintains extended hours and serves high-quality food. While fried rice is my usual lunch preference, other dishes are also noteworthy. The combination of scallion, beef, and oyster sauce is especially impressive. It is one of my recommended dishes to taste during your visit.
Our server was called Jose & he was so sweet. I want to take him home. I loved him. All the servers were excellent. Very attentive & were always close at hand if you needed anything. We were seated in a lovely little booth & given water & a lot of green tea. The menu was explained to us as they use different number to show you how hot the dishes are. Higher numbers = higher heat etc. Our order was taken and the food arrived swiftly. The food was good. Obviously, not the best quality but adequate for the price paid. We were very happy with the meal. Thanks guys I’ll add the pics of the meal later as it on another phone
I went here with my wife as a brief detour from our Trader Joe's trip and was pleasantly surprised. The place seemed completely packed and somehow we were seated and eating within 20 minutes of arriving, not sure what witchcraft made that possible. The food and atmosphere was great my only complaint being their spice levels being really off. I am a spice lover and my wife , not so much . I ordered a spice level 10 dish that although delicious did nothing for me and even my wife agreed it wasn't really spicy. Don't be afraid of those numbers everything seems a bit more mild here than expected.
Solid Chinese food for a fair price and in a cozy spot beneath the mall. Came here on a busy Friday evening and was able to get a table right away. The food came out quickly and everything was delicious. If you’re looking for no frills and good food, this is your spot! Would definitely come back to try out other options in the future.
Just got off a long commute from Jersey and was starving. This was recommended by the hotel receptionist since it was one of the few places open late. Just a 5 minute walk and it was inside a shopping center. Thankfully I ordered online so I didn’t have to wait when I arrived and there was a small line of people waiting. I didn’t have super high expectations for the quality of food that late but surprisingly it was all quite good. The dumplings were delicious! The sauce had a perfect amount of spiciness and the chicken fried rice was a good portion. It was a touch dry but the extra chili sauce they gave me helped and it had at least a good flavor. I would recommend this as a good late night spot in Brooklyn if you’ve got a hankering for Chinese food!
We made a reservation for 3 on the NYC restaurant week website. Got there and was seated in a very warm way. Only to be told upon inquiring that the restaurant only participates in the restaurant week festivities from Monday- Friday. This was Saturday. There was nothing on the website that stated this. Anyway, I digress. The prices weren't bad so we ordered. The entrées then came first and long before the appetizers so we had to wait a bit to start eating. The food however was bar none!!! Everything we ordered was exceedingly delicious and flavorful with great portion sizes! The drinks were mind blowing as well! The ambiance was serene and wonderful, replicating exactly what type of restaurant they were! The take home containers were very disappointing as well. However, we definitely would go again.
I’m a regular customer and usually have great experiences here, which is why I wanted to share this as constructive feedback. On my recent visit, I decided to try the dry pepper scallops instead of my usual dry pepper fish. After taking a few small bites, I realized I didn’t enjoy the texture or how the scallops were cooked, so I asked to switch dishes. I wasn’t saying I don’t like seafood — I regularly order and enjoy the dry pepper fish — this particular dish just wasn’t for me. Unfortunately, the bartender became confrontational and told me that I “wasted a $30 meal” and said that I do this “all the time,” which isn’t accurate (this has only happened twice over several months). The extra commentary made me uncomfortable, especially as a returning customer. I completely understand that food costs matter, but I feel this situation could have been handled more professionally and without placing guilt on the guest. I did share my experience with the manager. I’m posting this because I genuinely enjoy coming here and hope future situations like this are handled with more care and understanding.
Han Dynasty at DeKalb Market Hall made for a convenient late supper after a movie, but the experience was uneven, with several dishes falling short of their traditional flavor profiles. We began with the wontons in chili oil, a classic Sichuan appetizer rooted in Chengdu street food culture. Traditionally, the dish balances málà the numbing warmth of Sichuan peppercorns and the layered heat of chili oil. In this case, the wontons were small, noticeably overpriced, and coated in a sauce that leaned more sweet and salty than authentically spicy. Despite the generous amount of chili oil, the expected heat and numbing sensation were missing, leaving the dish oily rather than vibrant. The Westlake beef soup was a steadier offering. This Cantonese origin broth, named after West Lake in Hangzhou, is known for its delicate texture created by minced beef, egg ribbons, and a lightly thickened, silky base. The version served here stayed true to that simplicity clean and comforting, even if not particularly memorable. The salt and pepper scallops, served with rice, were the most disappointing plate. Salt and pepper dishes (jiao yan) are a hallmark of Cantonese cooking, celebrated for their crisp fry and harmony of salt, white pepper, and aromatics. Although the presentation here was impressive, the seasoning was not. The dominant and almost only flavor was pepper. There was virtually no salt, leaving the scallops bland and tasting mostly of fry oil rather than the bright, savory punch this dish is meant to deliver. Portions overall felt small, which led us to add chicken potstickers. These, too, were overpriced for their size and lacked the juicy, savory filling that defines a good dumpling. One thoughtful touch was the complimentary water and hot tea, which added a sense of hospitality to the meal. While the setting is convenient and a few items offered comfort, several dishes missed the traditional balance and depth they’re meant to showcase. With so many strong vendors in DeKalb Market Hall, greater consistency and attention to seasoning would significantly elevate the dining experience.
Literally just went in with my boyfriend and we had such a mid experience. The ambiance was so off, it’s supposed to be authentic but there’s a bar right in the middle and there’s rap music ?? besides that after we ordered and received our food which wasn’t bad at all, our server never came to check on us and never got our soda, we had to ask a food runner to refill our water because he never came back. We finished quickly and only tipped $5 which I feel bad about but there was no service to tip for. Will not be back again.
UNSATISFACTORY SERVICE It’s sad that I have to make a bad review on a place that I always order from and love their Shrimp Fried Rice and Kung Pao Shrimp dish!! I never ate in the actual restaurant so I cannot speak on behalf of how it is dining in, but I always uber eats it or order for pickup. It’s a very nice spot to order at night specifically because they stay open late, and today I went to order in person for pickup. First things first is that I greeted the cashier (a new cashier that I’ve never seen before) with a cheerful energy and I got no response, and he was standing right there so there was no possible way he didn’t, but I brushed it off because I didn’t think too much into it, I just figured he was having a bad day. I finally ordered everything listed on the receipt in the picture. I ordered one Kung Pao Shrimp with no bell peppers and no onions (this meal comes with rice), one Shrimp Fried Rice extra spicy, one Lychee Tea with extra ice, and one Mango Tea with no ice. Yes, I gave lots of extra directions, but as you see on the receipt, he typed every single special request. My boyfriend and I received our drinks first before the meal and my Lychee Tea barely had any ice, my boyfriend’s Mango Tea was not filled but I figured for his tea it was due to the fact that usually ice would fill it. For my tea I specifically asked for extra ice so I was definitely disappointed with that because I’m anemic and I love crunching on ice when I drink anything. My boyfriend had to ask for a cup of ice due to the lack of following instructions and yes the person did give the ice cup for free which I appreciate, but when my boyfriend came back to me he mentioned how the guy was distracted and on FaceTime with someone. So that’s when I figured he just wasn’t paying attention as a whole. Anyways, we finally got home and opened everything and the pictures shown is how everything looked. First off, I did not get any rice with the Kung Pao Shrimp, I’m not sure if he thought that I was replacing the regular rice with fried rice, but if he did, that’s something that you ask the customer, I work in customer service so trust me I know. I couldn’t even eat it without the rice because it’s not a meal you eat by itself so I had to stay hungry and put in in my fridge so I can get or make some rice tomorrow. I paid a lot over $26 for just Kung Pao just to get no rice. The second thing is that my boyfriend opened his Shrimp Fried Rice and seen that it was bland with no chili oil or anything. We noticed that there was an extra chili oil before hand and figured that it was complimentary especially since we have a decent tip but nooo they wanted us to add the chili oil ourselves. They have NEVER done something like that before whenever we ordered food so I was confused on why they did this now, especially paying the amount that we did. I will say that their food is a little pricey but I always made the sacrifice due to how good it was, but this turned me off so muchhh from them. I loved how consistent they always were and how they valued their customers requests, but everything about the experience today makes me not want to order from them again due to the fact that everything was building up. From the service, to the food, like it was definitely a turn off. I will say that they did listen to my request for the Kung Pao and I appreciate them for that, but everything else was terrible even my boyfriend said that the Fried Rice wasn’t sitting right in his stomach and he normally gets that dish so something is definitely going on and Han Dynasty, I request that you fix it because we love your food and do not want an experience like this again!!!
After a very stressful doctor’s appointment, I came to Han Dynasty hoping for a comforting meal and a moment of peace. Instead, I left feeling sick, embarrassed, and dismissed. I ordered the house special fried rice and my husband ordered the beef with scallions. While the fried rice initially tasted okay, I became violently nauseous midway through eating and had to rush to the bathroom to throw up. This was my first meal of the day, and I am 40 weeks pregnant, so at first I assumed my body was just reacting to the stress. After getting sick, I tried to continue eating, only to throw up again. At that point, it was clear something wasn’t sitting right with me. I calmly and respectfully explained the situation to the manager and asked if the dish could be taken off the bill. His response was shocking and completely lacking in compassion. He told me that if I “wasn’t feeling up to par for a meal,” I shouldn’t have eaten and that it was not his problem. He then slammed the payment device on the counter, signaling that he was done with me. I left feeling humiliated and heartbroken. Pregnancy is already physically and emotionally overwhelming, and a little kindness or understanding would have gone a long way. Instead, I was met with hostility and zero accountability. I did not come looking for a free meal—I came looking for comfort and left with regret. I will not be returning, and I truly hope management reflects on how they treat customers, especially those who are clearly vulnerable and unwell.
