Had a lovely little dinner date here a few nights ago. We loved this hidden gem so cute inside and with real homemade vegan Thai dishes. I’m not a vegan myself, but could really appreciate how delicious this meal was without having to use any meat. Everything absolutely homemade, you can taste that they grind the spices in house Must try little Spot for Thai fans in the area
Chakra is such a peaceful gem. The food is vibrant and thoughtfully prepared, I loved the curry and the fresh spring rolls, which were so fresh and flavorful. I really appreciate their slow food philosophy; it reminds me of how we eat in Italy, with care and intention. The back garden is magical and makes you forget you’re in NYC. A perfect spot to slow down and truly enjoy a nourishing meal.
Refined sugar free vegan Thai food! They are able to customize the dishes based on dietary restrictions. They made a super delicious sugar free mango sticky rice pudding. The main courses and soup were good and had fresh veggies. There was only about 1-2 staff onsite so understandably hard to juggle. Great to have found another restaurant that cares about the ingredients!
By far the best Jain/Swaminarayan Vegan Thai food in town. Nestled in the heart of NY, Chakra offers a delightful fusion of Jain principles with authentic Thai flavors, making it a standout choice for vegans and those seeking a Jain-friendly dining experience. Food Quality: The food surpassed expectations. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavors and textures, from the Jain Dumpling, and Massaman Curry to the Pad Thai with Jain-approved seasoning. Jain Vegan Options: The menu is a treasure trove for Jain vegans. They offer a wide array of dishes that strictly adhere to Jain dietary restrictions without compromising on taste or authenticity. The Jain versions of classic Thai dishes were a revelation. Value for Money: The portion sizes were generous ensuring a satisfying dining experience, Note: I found the portion size for Massaman Curry to be relatively small. A must-visit place
This restaurant is absolutely incredible. I lived in Chang Mai Thailand for a while and I felt as if I was back there having the most authentic Thai food. I highly recommend you check out this place. The owner JD is so kind and thoughtful.
The dumplings, the brown rice over curry is so delicious. The food is cooked perfectly through and the curry has a balanced amount of veggies and flavor. The perfect place for vegans and those with restricted diets.
My new favorite thai place. The food was so fresh and flavorful! And the ginger tea is the perfect pairing.
Food was excellent. I had the summer rolls and the green curry. Both were top notch, flavourful and incredibly fresh. You could tell they made it from scratch, no reheating business.
This place is like a hidden gem! Everything is so delicious, fresh and you can also order without sugar or salt. They have a good quality plant based food with a lots of gf option. I tried green curry and mung bean noodles they both were great! Thank you!
The service was a little slow but we had the whole restaurant to ourselves so no complaints - it was basically a quiet little oasis in the middle of this noisy city. Half of the menu is similar to the one at May Kaidee if you’re familiar with that place, the other half is more “fruitarian” although I don’t think they define fruitarian as a diet purely based on fruit. The influence is Thai-Indian. Nothing was overly oily or salty which is just what I hope for when I eat out. Portions could be slightly bigger. I’ll be back to try more things!
I took my family to Chakra for Father's day and it was fantastic as always. We had the dumplings for appetizers, drunken noodles, eggplant dish and a curry with a side of brown rice

I am so happy that they have an SOS menu. It was great to be able to relax and know that the kitchen welcomes my dietary preference. Thank you! It seems that nearly everything is prepared to order, and as a result if coming here you should be prepared to possibly wait longer than most restaurants for your food to be ready. I do wish there was a way for the restaurant to communicate this to avoid problems with new customers who may be expecting quicker service.
I’ve attended an event at this restaurant twice now, and both times the food was absolutely superb. Every dish was bursting with flavor—so fresh, so vibrant, and perfectly seasoned. Hands down, this is the best vegan Thai spot in NYC. I had the steamed dumplings, summer rolls, drunken linguine, and massaman curry—each one better than the last. The variety of flavors and textures was incredible, and everything tasted like it was made with so much care and quality ingredients. I’m already looking forward to being in the area again just so I can stop in and enjoy another meal. You won’t regret eating here—a must-visit for any food lover, vegan or not.
Hidden Gem Amazing food. Home made dishes w fresh spices!! Taste and quality food are incredible. If you’re in a hurry this is not the place. Very well worth the wait as dishes are served. Will definitely be back.
Chakra is a delightful little spot. The food is prepared fresh and made to order, so don't expect to pop in and out of there. If you are in no rush, you will most definitely enjoy a wholesome, delicious meal, with attentive service. We love that they offer a SOS-free option on their menu--that is salt, oil, and sugar-free, made with no animal products. It is the perfect place for whole foods, without any processed ingredients. You will not miss them! The dishes are packed with flavor!!! A rare and marvelous experience and one that needs to be replicated around the city! Well done!!!
My wife and I went here for a meal and it was superb. I usually don't even eat vegetarian meals often, let alone vegan ones, but the Thai Indian hybrid food here is great. I got the green curry which was flavorful and filling and had a kick to it with the spice. My wife got the red curry which was very pleasant and well balanced. My wife also can't have much sodium, and this restaurant was very accommodating and was able to make many of their dishes without much added salt which was incredibly helpful. Service here is great too, the atmosphere is very cozy.

Such an incredible and restaurant! The food is really fresh and very interesting and playful combination of ingredients! I am Not vegan but I still loved their menu and flavors! Highly recommended!!
Best best best place ever in general but especially if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies. The food is always so yummy and never lacking even with so many things I request to leave out (gluten, oil sometimes salt, sometimes vinegar, etc). Also so kind. My favorite is the pumpkin hummus!! I’m even doing my bachelorette party dinner here!

Solid good. Flavorful and fragrant. Small spot with very understated decor. Able to accommodate vegan, gluten-free, peanut free, sugar free and oil free! They also have less often-found dishes from NE Thailand. Really enjoyed the drunken noodled and green curry. Will def go back and order delivery!

**they are using frozen meals and passing them off as their prepared meals!** DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! This place had 1 employee doing everything. EVERYTHING. It took forever to get even a glass of water! She was the only one there. If I was alone, I would have walked out long before the fiasco of the food - The mango salad was fine and the spring rolls were decent (but neither worth $15 - they were just passable). And I have no confidence they were made in house. There was NO STAFF in the kitchen. Just this one woman who did everything else too. Although the appetizers were passable, the entrees were terrible! They had the nerve to try to pass off a Trader Joe's frozen meal as their "Drunken Noodles". I've had this frozen entree a few times, so I noticed it immediately and refused to eat it. I called her on it, showed her the photo of the box and told her I wasn't paying $19 for a frozen microwaved meal! I already knew something was off and then heard the microwave ding twice. (The place did not smell like food. What restaurant doesn't smell like food??? They were NOT COOKING!) Shortly after those dings, I received my meal. They obviously heated up 2 boxes and tried to pass it off as their Drunken Noodles. The nerve! They didn't even heat it on the stove! It was room temperature! Unbelievable. I hope they go out of business. I'm going back there to talk to someone about how egregious this is and demand our money back (she insisted on paying for the rest of the meal. I wanted to walk out on the bill). I'm livid.
