Really nice place, affordable food, amazing drinks
Booked a reservation for 2 for their $30pp restaurant week and had a great dinner. Our waitress was very friendly and showed amazing hospitality. We had the elote and shrimp empanada appetizers, steak w/ fries and the coco burger w/ fries as entrees, and tiramisu with another dessert i forgot the name off. All the foods were well prepared and delicious. We did not wait long between courses and we had 3 rounds of margaritas, some flavored and some classic with sugar on the rims. The drinks are always tiny but MIGHTY, definitely will get you where you have to go. I’ve been to the other el coco location but I would come back to el coco Chelsea!
Foood never takes long everrrr. This is where I go when I’m hungry and want drink with my friends. The food is qualityyyyy. And the stafff is great. I never feel judged, it’s a very open space. Our bartender today was Maria and she was super helpful and sweet. But I have also been here numerous times and the same goes for all the staff.
Carlos at El Cocoa Restaurant was honestly amazing. From the moment we sat down, he was super welcoming and made us feel comfortable right away. He was attentive without being overwhelming, checked in at the perfect times, and made sure everything came out exactly how we wanted it.
Really loved this place. Was greeted immediately, hospitality was amazing. Food was soooo good. The guacamole was fresh and delicious, and everything we ordered came within a reasonable time. Will definitely be back!
I work near by. I saw very cute for a girls night. And I was indeed, right. You cannot beat those five dollars margaritas. And they’re actually good. Paired with the tacos in the good service at the bar.. No matter who is there! I have only ever been at night so I don’t know what the lunch is like but the food is 10 out of 10
This is one of those low-key Manhattan spots that reminds you why exploring the city is still worth it. Let’s start with the $5 classic margaritas because… wow. They are STRONG, smooth, and dangerously easy to drink. No watered-down nonsense here. The kind of margarita where two feel perfect and three might have you texting people you shouldn’t 😅. For the price point alone, this place already wins happy hour. Now the food specifically the al pastor tacos. Absolutely fire. The meat was crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. You can tell they know what they’re doing with the seasoning and the cook. Easily some of the crispiest and best al pastor I’ve had in the city, and that’s saying a lot. The vibe is casual, welcoming, and unpretentious exactly what you want when you’re just trying to eat good food and sip good drinks without the downtown hype tax. This is the kind of place you stumble into once… and then intentionally come back to.
The energy is electric at El Coco, there was a DJ curating the vibes and eventually dimmed the lights for the disco ball to shine. The food was really good and tried all the tacos, with the al jardin taco being most delicious. The 5$ frozen margarita is also a highlight and would also recommend there homemade chips and guacamole.
Chris was an amazing time at el coco. Make sure I was comfortable. The drinks was amazing help me pick food out. And all the other customers seem to love him as well. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I will be back again
El Coco – Hell’s Kitchen 📍 Review by @justinmateonyc If you're looking for a vibrant, flavor-packed escape in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen, El Coco absolutely delivers—starting with the CHIPS AND GUACAMOLE. Served with housemade chips that are perfectly crisp with just the right touch of salt, this starter sets the tone for everything to come. The guac is creamy, fresh, and full of limey zing, a classic done right. Now let’s talk AL PASTOR—marinated pork with sweet pineapple that hits that perfect balance of savory and juicy. But the real surprise? That pineapple chutney. It’s next level. Sweet, tangy, and a little spicy—it brought the whole dish together in the best way. I went with the cheeseburger empanadas (yes, you read that right), and they were unreal—crispy on the outside, ooey-gooey savory on the inside. My fiancée had the jalapeño empanadas and shrimp & crab meat camarones tacos, both of which were fresh, flavorful, and had that signature El Coco twist: bold, layered flavor and beautifully presented. The vibe here is unmatched—El Coco is popped out in pink, fun, and full of personality. It’s got that Instagram-ready aesthetic but without sacrificing authenticity or comfort. The energy in the room is as vibrant as the food. Shoutout to Denise, our server, who was warm, welcoming, and super attentive—made us feel right at home. As a food photographer and content creator, El Coco is exactly the kind of place I love discovering. The colors, the plating, the ambiance—all photogenic and all delicious. Definitely a spot that makes my food trips across NYC worth it. 📸 Follow my food adventures at @justinmateonyc #FoodieFinds #HellsKitchenEats #ElCocoNYC
We went for restaurant week and was not disappointed. 100/10 great service great food. Definitely coming around 4:30 pm is the best to avoid the excessive noise or crowd. The food was delicious and for 30 pp that was a great deal. We recommend the fish tacos . THEY WERE SO FRESH AND SO GOOD AND THE TIRAMISU WAS DELICIOUS WE HAD TO GET SECONDS.
Amazing Mexican Food & Great Vibes! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an incredible dining experience at Coco! The food was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I had the seafood tacos, and they were delicious! My coworkers tried different taco options, and everyone agreed they were fantastic. The pricing was also super reasonable, with tacos ranging from just $4 to $6. One of the highlights was their happy hour margaritas for only $6—such a great deal! The atmosphere was lively, stylish, and very Instagrammable, making it the perfect spot for a fun outing. AND THEY DO TO GO CUPS 🫡🥰 I’m already looking forward to bringing my family and friends here—Lo Coco is definitely my new go-to spot! Highly recommend! 🌮🍹✨
Place is fun!! I saw a couple double fist drinks, lol. I was like "good sign." I brought my kids, and it was fine, but I'd like to come back without them. Food was good. I really enjoyed mine. I must commend the staff. I mistakenly typed too much money in the tip. Our waiter alerted me, and I was able to fix it. I don't remember your name, but thanks!!!! I must recommend this place for that alone. When I'm in the area, watching a show at Joyce Theater, I'll stop by.
I checked out El Coco's Chelsea location last night and truly enjoyed everything from the service, to the food, and especially the drinks. Our server was Carlos and he was a great help when we asked for recommendations or suggestions off of the menu. We tried the El Coco Margarita which is a coconut flavored margarita (as per his recommendation) and it was delicious! Definitely will order more when I go back. It's so cute inside & of course they play great music! They have a location on the UWS and and Hell's Kitchen. We were told that Fridays & Saturdays they have a DJ, so we will definitely be back!!

Excellent service and food, Maria is very nice and attentive, if you come you should ask for her! The tacos are delicious. The place is nice and has good music.
We had Christopher at the bar and he was super attentive and the food was actually delicious af! The drinks are a bit small but tasty and strong.
Food and drinks were great. I’ve been here a few times before and they never disappoint. The shrimp tacos and the carne asada tacos are great. Mo and Edwardo at the bar were very attentive.
Decent food with questionable service. Nice vibes inside and food came pretty quickly. But besides taking our initial orders, the waiter pretty much forgot about us. We were planning on order more food and dessert, but literally couldn't get their attention. We didn't get any drinks which may be the reason why. Everyone liked their food so we might come back to give them another try if we're in the area.
Went here for some drinks and snacks. The drink prices were really good, especially for the city. Overall, it was a good experience but not a great one. My biggest issue was the fourteen dollar order of chips and cheese. We ran out of chips well before we ran out of dip. Our server asked if we wanted more chips, and we said sure. Then they charged us two dollars for the extra chips. That felt a bit ridiculous, especially considering the price of the appetizer and how inexpensive chips actually are. It’s more about the principle for me. The server didn’t mention there would be an extra charge. I would have questioned it right away. It just felt like a weird move. Most Mexican restaurants give you chips for free when you sit down.

I came here for dinner and ordered the chicken fajita, my friends got the steak quesadilla and the birria bowl. They liked their food. The chicken fajita was okay, as someone that ALWAYS orders fajitas when I go to a Mexican restaurant I would give this a 5/10. The chicken was dry, the rice was dry, and the fajita only came with rice, beans, and the tortilla on the side. I asked for sour cream and was charged a $1. Usually fajitas come with rice, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, tortillas and a bit of guacamole on the side. We then ordered churros and it came with only 2 pieces, I have never been at a restaurant that gave less than 4. The staff was friendly but not as attentive, and the decor was nice.

It's pretty much chipotle with a bar and loud music. There seems to be a party spot upstairs. 1 out of 2 drinks were good. The DJ was good and the staff were great.

Such a shame that straight forward communication is not received well with the people here. Had a reservation for 4 people at 7pm. A server from the restaurant texted us about 30 mins before our reservation saying that they had to cancel because they overbooked. At this point we were already on our way. When we arrived the server Katherine (in the attached photo) was very adamant about how they no longer have space to accommodate us but it’s not our fault that they overbooked. The reservation slot shouldn’t have been open. I’ve NEVER had a restaurant cancel on ME and then get mad AT ME for it. She was not apologetic and kept rolling her eyes and being condescending. I said multiple times that im not trying to be rude I’m just trying to figure out a solution so that everyone is happy. That wasnt good enough for her. Mo the bartender was very empathetic and pleasant as he watched the whole thing unfold. He gives great customer service! He saw that we were being calm and polite but when Katharine started brushing us off, that’s when I got upset and was being rude right back to her. Katherine if you’re reading this: when serving in the Customer SERVICE industry, you’re supposed to be warm and kind. ESPECIALLY when the restaurant is at fault for a mistake. And apparently she was just taking orders from management who was not present btw. Another huge red flag. Katherine you won’t make it very far in life with that attitude. Thats why you’re a struggling server.
[Edit] Couldn’t find the weekend tip policy on their website. Is this even real? I just reviewed their menu online and see that the table limit is listed as 90 minutes, right at the top of the menu. But nothing about the required 20% tip on weekend service. Knocking down to two stars, I feel disrespected as a diner for not being properly informed about this anywhere in advance and made to feel like my server might be cheating me when he selected the 20% tip button without consulting us. Not mad about paying 20% tip, mad about being treated this way. [Edit 2] And honestly the service wasn’t stellar. Server rarely stopped by the table, and I had wanted to order more drinks. Oh, and he didn’t even offer us a receipt until we asked for one. Ok, down to one star. El Coco needs to make it clear up front that the server will tap the 20% tip button for you on the checkout machine because there is an automatic 20% applied for service on weekends. I was very upset to see my server select “20%” on the checkout machine for himself, and our table honestly thought he was being dishonest. After talking it out with him, he explained that this is restaurant policy on the weekends. I would have been fine with this policy if I had known up front — people need a living wage — but this left a bad taste in my mouth. We double checked with another server, who said the same thing. Will confirm that the frozen margarita and piña colada were pretty dang great, and I liked the low $5 price; a good bargain. My birria taco was good; the other food was so so. I liked the visual vibes; I didn’t like that it was so noisy. I could kind of talk but often had to ask people to repeat themselves.
