This spot never disappoints. One of my favorite Thai places in SGV. Good food and good service every time.
Panang beef stew was excellent. The beef was very tender and the curry had good flavor.
Loved it here and will definitely come back to try different dishes. Great papaya salad!
If you’re planning to visit Chef G On 4th in Alhambra, the hack is to come at lunchtime before the lunch crowd hits. I don’t even bother with dinner anymore because the place is always packed with people waiting outside. I’ve tried various dishes like the Thai curry and Tom Yam soup, but what keeps me coming back now are the boat noodles. I highly recommend them—the broth is rich and flavorful. It’s so good, you’ll want to come back for more. The service is friendly, but keep in mind that the place is small and can get crowded. So, try to get there during non-busy hours to avoid the wait. This review maintains your straightforward and genuine tone while providing helpful tips and highlighting the standout dish.
Truly stellar food! Been here multiple times and it’s always blown me away - not just your typical Thai place. The flavors are bold, the chicken satay, Penang curry, and sticky rice are highlights. This is probably gonna end up on the best restaurants in LA list soon and I’m just happy to know about them before they blew up.
Came for the Khao soi, and it did not disappoint. Khak soi is a dish that is served in Laos and Northern Thailand. I still remember the first time I had it in Chiangmai, I completely fell in love with its flavor (Oh the curry soup and the crispy fried egg noodles, yum!) I have been looking for this dish for awhile, and I’m so glad that chef G included this in the menu and the flavors were there! All the dishes we had were authentic. Simple but tasty. And, I liked that they let us choose the spice level (from 1-5), we asked for medium (level 2), and it had a nice kick that I really enjoyed. The only suggestion would be the portions, they were on the smaller side (more like a lunch meal, yes we can’t help but wanting more) Overall, a hidden gem. It’s a small restaurant that only has 8 tables, but it fills up fast. Service was great, every staff member was super friendly and welcoming (they deserve 5 stars) A must try when you are on Main St. Will be returning soon :)
New Thai place that is great so far. Seems like the owners are somehow related to a Thai restaurant up near Sacramento, CA, which is a good sign. Food is pretty good. We spontaneously decided to eat here when we were walking by. We ordered a green curry (rice is an extra order), a Thai milk tea, and a Guay Tire Ruar (the boat noodles they call it). Thai milk tea - Sweet. Too sweet for my tastes. Still good. Pricing is good too so I don't mind that I ordered something way too sweet for my tastes. Green Curry (medium) - Flavour is very good. Unlike most green curries, the flavour is strong and not diluted. You can clearly taste coconut milk and the curry paste. Amazing. A bit disappointed that rice is an additional side order (+$2) though. Would've been nice to not need additional order of rice since all the sections (outside of a la carte) comes with some sort of carbs. Serving size is... a bit small if your expectations are normal American sizes (a lot). I think the serving is perfect to feel satisfied, but when you compare it with the average portion size on the area, it is a bit small. Guay Tiew Ruar (the boat) - essentially it is a beef noodle soup. For non-thai folk, the flavour is a kind of like a fusion between taiwanese beef noodle soup and a Vietnamese pho. I really like it. Flavour is really good and strong, and the spice level is reasonable for a western audience. Portion size is the same story as the green curry. I think this applies to all items here. We ordered some salads as takeout the next day and had similiar thoughts. Good price, smaller than average portions (but enough to feel satisfied), and good, strong flavour. Service was really good. The people were friendly and attentive. Way better than what you would expect from the area. Store location is pretty small. Sore only have 7-8 tables of 2-4 people, so don't expect to easily sit a group of 8 here. The store seems to be pretty new, and the first few months is the most turbulent time for a restaurant. Hopefully the good times continue on! :)
Customer service was excellent. Food was unexpectedly very good. Though not enough room inside to sit. But during slow hour, you can definitely sit and enjoy food. Everything was delicious. The portion was appropriate for the price. We also tried the crying tiger. It was really good.
Ordered Papaya Salad, Pad Kee Mao, Pad Thai, and Kao Moo Dang. The Papaya Salad with level 2/5 spice was good, with a small afterkick that was pleasant than painful. The Pad Kee Mao was highly recommended and tasted very good, not too greasy, with all the flavors well cooked in. The sausage of the Kao Moo Dang was delicious and enough sauce to spread out with the rice as well to add flavor. The Pad Thai was very standard so a good choice if this one is your go-to. The portions may look a bit small on these simple plates but they're all really sufficient if you do one dish and a shared appetizer. Location is very accessible on Main Street with some street parking nearby and a parking lot in the back. Note the time limit. It does get busy and the restaurant is small so there may be a wait. Find the staff member with the clipboard to join the waitlist when you get there.
Great service and food is so yummy! I got a pad thai with shrimp and the shrimp is so crispy and the pad thai was so flavorful. My husband got the green curry and it was so creamy and flavorful. He got a level 2 spice and it was plenty spicy already. We also got the fried dumplings and the sauce was so good. Can't wait to come back again. The ladies here are so friendly, and the service is superb. She checked on us so much and brought us water when our thai tea was finished. I was thoroughly impressed.
Chef G on 4th Thai Street Food - this is a high CP value restaurant. Even though it is a small restaurant but the food 🍲 are pretty good 👍🏻 . The only thing need to remember when you place the order is when they ask you how spicy do you want, you need to ask for spicy, not medium, because it is not that spicy 🌶️ . The seats 💺 are very limited so it is good for small groups of people or just for couples. #losangeles #alhambra #thai #thaifood #chefgon4th #food #foodies #foodphotography #photography #travel #fun #instagram #curry #tomyumsoup #padtai #papaya #guaytiewruar #frybanana #likesforlike #instalike #follow #like #style #yummy #family #friends #couple #followforfollowback #amazing #foodstagrams
This is my new favorite hidden gem. It’s a small restaurant with bold flavors. They don’t have a lot of seating compared to other restaurants but if you come early, you can get seated fast. I went a little before 5 PM and there was plenty of tables, but after sitting down the place got crowded so you can tell that this a a restaurant that gets frequented. The ambience has a modern homey feel. Our party ordered the pad see ew, pineapple, fried rice, and the green curry. The food came out fast and it was delicious. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant again.
This was my second time at Chef G on 4th Thai Street Food, and I came back specifically for the spicy catfish. It’s just that good, and honestly, this visit was even better than my first. We also ordered Thai tea and the fish cake, which works well as either an appetizer or even a main bite on its own. For entrées, we had the drunken noodles with crispy pork and of course the spicy catfish. Both were packed with flavor. We chose a spice level of 4 out of 5, but honestly, we could’ve gone with a 5 since we ended up adding the pickled jalapeños and Sriracha from the table. For dessert we got the classic mango sticky rice. It was so good even though we were stuff it’s a must. If you’re looking for authentic Thai food in Alhambra, this place is a must-try. The service was excellent, and the restaurant has that cozy mom-and-pop feel where you can still carry a conversation without raising your voice. Parking is easy with a free public lot in the back, plus street parking if needed. I’ll definitely keep coming back with friends and family and highly recommend Chef G on 4th to anyone craving quality Thai food.
I first went out about this place in late 2023 till this day it has now been one of my top five favorite places to go eat and have dinner with my husband. There has been a lot of changes since then when I first went there they were like grade 8 in the braces Were way more than now they did some updating to like the walls. The menus I recently went on Monday to go have dinner with my husband, and I asked why they were closer to the past weekend and then they told me they did some deep cleaning and I didn’t notice that their grade level went from A to B. I can tell you that I am not sure what they found or why they went down to me, but the food was still delicious. I also didn’t notice that they raise the prices again when I was getting the soup there’s sour soup seafood, sour soup there before it was $12.95 and now it went up to $16+. I just went to their website and the prices there aren’t all updated like the restaurant. Either way if you’re around Alhambra area this is a spot. I do recommend. I usually always get the same thing I get seafood, sour soup, mild and spicy and then I get the shrimp fried rice and shrimp pad Thai. I I really enjoy drinking the Thai tea but due to the price change I think for a small glass it’s exaggerating price. I didn’t get it this time. I drank water, but that was fine. I did get my total this time and it was 70+ without tip so we are going to be making less visits to our favorite spot now because it used to be a little bit less than 50 before and with this economy we really can’t afford these nights I’d rather go to a fancy restaurant and spend that much with a little more, but I still love it
One of many places to eat on Main Street, but don't let the small place keep you away. The noodle dishes were so satisfying and spice level was perfect. Crab fried rice lacked a little seasoning, but the eggplant and tofu entree was so good. Portions are big enough for leftovers. Papaya salad was refreshing as well. Free parking in the lot next to the restaurant!
I was pleasantly surprised by the exemplary food and service that we received here. My Pineapple Fried Rice was the best that I've had, and in very picky. My girlfriend had the Dom Yum Noodles and states that they were really, really good. The perfect fresh flavor balance... If you like it spicy, you'll need ty ask for extra spice, unlike the last Thai place that I ate at where the mild literally scolded my mouth for two days. I prefer the honest choice and being able to add Chili Paste. The fried Cream Cheese Wanton was great both as an appetizer and dessert after our meal. I'll be returning multiple times... Forgive me, the food was so good and I was so hungry, I forgot to take pictures. Believe me, presentation was awesome. These are all I've got left... Plenty of parking in back alley.
After finishing my business at the AAA offices I was very very hungry but I didn't know what to get. I look up at my Yelp to see what good restaurant I would got to have lunch then I notice say this Thai restaurant in Alhambra it's a short distance where I am at. I decided to try this Thai restaurant I really enjoy Thai food. When I arrive the restaurant I notice they display the menu they have a good lunch menu including combos. I step the the waitess greet I told her my order is to go she was nice and very helpful telling about their lunch deal. I decided to order the Yellow curry with egg roll with rice combo then I told her it's to go. I waited and sat down then I look around the restaurant it's small with plenty of table I notice people come here for lunch to get the lunch specials. My order was ready then I left the restaurant and headed home with my lunch. I open the container the Yellow curry was in a small container it also comes with a side salad and Jasmine rice. The yellow curry was incredible bold flavors in the yellow curry the chicken was tender and juicy. The egg roll was great good flavors and crispy and crunchy taste that was awesome. The rice was amazing I add the rice in the yellow rice it taste so good and mind blowing flavors in this dish I really enjoy it. The service incredible good and the staff was very friendly. I need to come back again with my wife and friends.
Felt like trying out somewhere I haven't been to before and this Thai place caught my eye. Easy parking in the back and the lunch specials are good. I went with the yellow curry and 3 out of 5 spicy levels. I felt that was a good middle ground for someone like me, who doesn't have a high spicy tolerance: just enough heat to feel it without overwhelming you. It also comes with a clear chicken broth soup, small salad, and rice I also tried their Thai ice tea and it was nice, though I wish they had slightly less ice in it. Overall, decent prices, good food, and I left satisfied!
Enjoyed a delicious meal here with friends. Portions are adequate, their prik nam plaa was on point (with cuts of garlic!), and the flavors were on point. Customized my friend’s chicken pad see ew, and enjoyed the tofu red curry alongside the chicken green curry. Everything was on point and prices were reasonable as well! Will come back for sure :)
If you haven't been to Chef G on 4th, you NEED to go now! Hands down the best place for Thai food in the SGV. Friendly service and the food was a life changing experience that had my friends and me super full without feeling bogged down or heavy. Everything ordered was devoured ! Highly recommend the mango sticky rice too. Don't sleep on the best Thai food in town! There can sometimes be a bit of a wait so go early and be ready to feast! :)
This is my first time dining at Chef G after numerous instances of hearing about it. We selected their lunch combo, which offered the option to choose between jasmine rice, fried rice, or brown rice (with an additional charge). This comes with soup and salad with 1 choice of appetizer for all of their dishes on their lunch menu. We chose the green curry and pad kaprow and chicken satay. We also ordered grilled beef salad. The food itself was satisfactory, however, the portion size is rather modest. If you are a substantial eater, it might be advisable to consider ordering two or three orders. The service provided was remarkably attentive and commendable. However, parking may pose some challenges as they only provide street parking. Consequently, the restaurant premises themselves are relatively small and may not comfortably accommodate large parties.

A little on the pricey side for the serving sizes. But honestly one the best Thai places in SGV. Highly recommend. 2 of the best things on the menu: Yellow Curry Tom Yum Medium spicy (for both) for best taste imo
Wish I had taken pictures but I ate the food so fast. The best Pad See Ew I’ve ever had! Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. I also tried the Crying Tiger steak, which was delicious, I ordered it medium, but next time I’ll go for medium rare since it was a bit drier than I like. We finished with the mango sticky rice, which was the perfect ending — truly the best dessert! The service was friendly and attentive, and overall it was such a great dinner. I’ll definitely be back soon.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: First time here and it's been on my list for awhile. The food was good, some dishes were preferred than others. Prob best to not come at peak dinner time, as the wait may be longer. AMBIANCE: A very small space, with limited tables. A/C was blasting too cold (even the table next to us were freezing). Not too sure if there is a restroom. The interior includes tables, and then a doorway to the kitchen. ORDERED: [5/5] Papaya Salad: spice level 3 was perfect. a nice kick of spice but still able to enjoy/eat [5/5] Crying Tiger: flavor was amazing and meat was cooked well. [3/5] Thai Boat Noodles: noodles were a bit soggy, flavor of the soup wasn't the best that I have had (seemed a bit dense to me), was luke warm when it was brought to our table. [4/5] Green Curry: added chicken and eggplant, spice level 3. It was tasty. SERVICE: Service was great! PRICE: ~$30pp; reasonably priced PARKING: street parking Food: 4/5 stars Service: 4/5 stars Venue: 2/5 stars
I know everything went up in prices but try not to cut portion. Other then that, the food was pretty good.
A very small Thai restaurant but great food. There isn't a very big parking lot in the back but you can find parking nearby on the streets. There also isn't many tables inside so that is why the wait times get so long. Luckily, we came at a good time and didn't have to wait. The employees are friendly and have good service too. We ordered the pad thai, pad see ew, chicken satay, khao soi. The satay was okay but I really liked the pad thai and pad see ew. However, the portions are a bit on the smaller side for the price. One dish is barely enough for one person. But I guess the size is good for trying different dishes with friends.
Nice place to have Thai food. Not much seating available so be prepared to wait. The wait time is sort of insane. We ça checked it at 12.30 and we had to wait almost close to an hour to get seated. Coming to the food.. I really loved the Pad See Eew and Crab fried rice. The fish cakes were delicious. They have some good variety of soups as well. Usually crowded, on the positive side they have ample parking space on the back. Restrooms are on the backside.
My go-to Thai restaurant in SGV! Food is authentic Thai, and great service (accommodated to different taste preferences-more sour, less spicy, etc). As a Thai, I can testify that their food has authentic flavors. We usually order Pad Seew & mango sticky rice. Their salty garlic fried shrimps are amazing also. It’s not a big place so it could get crowded during lunch and dinner times.
The food was really good. Portions are a bit small. There was no wait for us at 6pm on a week day. Knock off one star since they gave us a glass that still has lipstick mark on it.
Chef G in Alhambra is a cozy spot with attentive service and a warm atmosphere, making it a delightful choice for a post-church meal. While the menu offers a variety of Thai classics, the execution of dishes falls slightly short of exceptional. The pad thai with crispy pork belly presents a creative twist, but the noodles can lean towards mushiness, though the addition of crispy pork adds depth to the dish. Similarly, the satay features flavorful chicken but tends to be slightly tough, saved only by the delicious peanut sauce. One disappointment arises with the Tom Kha soup, which arrives resembling a Tom Yum soup instead. Despite the visual misstep, the flavors remain true to Thai cuisine, providing a satisfying albeit unexpected twist. Parking is convenient with options in the back and on the street, ensuring easy access for diners. In summary, Chef G offers a pleasant dining experience with room for improvement in consistency and execution, yet it remains a solid choice for those seeking familiar Thai flavors with a creative touch.
Looking for a quick, local dinner and ended up going to Chef G. Overall great first experience, so glad to know there's (another) local Thai spot for when I'm in the mood. I had the Khao Soi which as of recently has been my favorite dish in Thai restaurants. I was happy to see it on the menu since I believe this is more of a specialty, regional dish, and do not see it at all Thai restaurants. I like to think of Khao Soi as a leveled up version of the usual Thai curry. It's that much more savory, creamy, a little spicy, sweet and just so delicious. I was happy with this Khao Soi here and the chicken that it came with was very tender as well. I don't think there are other protein options with this dish as I have seen at other places. The Khao Soi was about $14 which I thought was pretty cheap when I saw it on the menu. I assumed that it was going to be a little bit smaller of a dish and that was true. But it was not too small and did not leave me hungry. I think I like it's a little smaller and cheaper, with things costing so much these days. It's a nice clean, little Thai restaurant with maybe under 10 tables. I like the large mural they have on one of the walls. The service staff was fantastic both when taking the order and checking with me throughout the meal. Friendly and attentive. They are located on 4th St, as stated in their name, right off of Main St. Parking should not be an issue with parking structures close by as well as residential street parking is readily available. If you are looking for a new Thai place, check out Chef G. Cheers!
Best hole in the wall Thai restaurant in SGV or maybe Los Angeles??? The drunken noodle is absolutely delicious and if you can handle spicy .. # 5 will have you screaming for more!!! The wok hei in every bite! We also love the spicy fried rice.. you can get it mild buy #4 is perfect for us…

We also love the spicy fried rice.. you can get it mild buy #4 is perfect for us…
Food was decent. Seemed homemade (the pad thai was good, but the yellow curry was bland) and portions were small for what we paid for. The restaurant is very small and seating was cramped. Better to do take out.

It was alright. It wouldn't be my go-to thai spot. Ordered take-out, so I can't really comment on the atmosphere or service. I ordered the following: -Fresh shrimp summer rolls -Lunch special pad thai -Sukiyaki The biggest letdown was the sukiyaki. The description shows it would have fish balls, shrimp, and squid. I got one shrimp and mostly chicken. I don't eat chicken... The description didn't include chicken 🙄 Pad thai was meh. The fresh summer rolls were pretty good. Packed w veggies, and I liked the dipping sauce. Don't forsee myself coming back.
It’s been my second time ordering from this restaurant. The first time I tried this place, I had the pad Thai with shrimp, Thai fried rice with shrimp, Panang beef stew, and satay chicken. I mentioned in a previous review that the first time I tried the shrimp pad Thai, it tasted fishy. The second time I tried the food, the pad Thai was significantly better, no fishy taste. However, because I order take out, I ask for a side of pickled peppers but both times, they are SO stingy with the pickled peppers. I ordered 4 dishes, and I get three small containers of pickled peppers that have like 2-3 peppers inside. The second time I came to pick up, I called prior and asked for a lot. I checked at the restaurant and saw they put three small containers. I asked the lady staff if I could get more, and she said it’s in there and insisted. I was barely able to get two more small containers of the pickled peppers. WHY ARE THEY SO SALTY WITH THE PICKLED PEPPERS?????!!! It’s the small things that make it or break it for me. That part left me infuriated of how that staff was insistent and not friendly.
Edible. Came here at 2pm on a Saturday and the place was full (it's a smaller spot with 8 tables in the shop). Ordered the Khao Soi ($16) and Thai Boat Noodles ($16). The Khao Soi was overly sweet, but not to the point where it isn't edible. Flavor was meh and the portion was really small for $16. You get maybe a drumstick sized chicken and a small portion of fried egg noodles. The boat noodles were ok in flavor, but lackedall of the special tasty bits you usually find in more authentic versions (read: offal). There's nothing horrible about this place, but everything is just meh. The portions are pretty small for the price and the food is edible, but definitely nothing to rave about. I'm not sure if I'll be back.

Very disappointed in their takeout. I ordered 4 items. One of them was their panang which came half full. It was also quite watery. The cuts of meat were chunky but didn't blend well with the sauce. On top of that the stay chicken only had 4 pieces which is almost nothing compared to the photo shown. I definitely won't be ordering here again.
