Great food, relaxed atmosphere. Bring your wallet because you are paying for premium beef. This is not fast food, so expect to take your time over dinner. We had filet mignon and Black Angus ribeye with steak egg roll for an appetizer. Tea to drink. $200
This is truly a hidden gem of atmospheric perfection. Management and staff are a cohesive flawlessly flowing force to be reckoned with. Literally I didn’t see a single thing wrong :). Also live folk musician in the corner was performing at the exact perfect volume for both enjoyment of music and for still carrying on conversations with ease. Thank you for an amazing stop on my travels.
Update: we have started using public house more and more for business lunches and I can truly say it has come full circle and this is one of our favorite places to frequent. The staff is excellent. The food is back on point. And the restaurant is extremely clean. I would highly recommend eating here! Original: Public house has drastically improved for their lunch service since my last review (which I regretfully had to leave a 1 star review). It no longer seems an afterthought. They promptly met us when we came in, the staff was extremely attentive and the food was above average. We have started frequenting public house again. I would recommend this for a business lunch spot or just a get together with friends or significant other.
Our Waitress, Shelley Kelly was absolutely amazing and adorable! She was extremely helpful when my husband and I asked questions regarding the menu. Shelley let us know what her favorite dessert was, so we had to try it and MY GOSH, the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake is now my favorite! Shelley, you are amazing at what you do. We will be long term customers thanks to you! Keep up the great work! See you soon!!
Excellent food. Nice atmosphere and convenient location. Not overpriced either. The lamb chops are probably the best I've ever had, outside of Europe. The elk tenderloin and meatloaf are also amazing. However everything here is delicious. My kids also really like the homemade mac and cheese.
Great experience! Great meal! First time here and it was something we will definitely repeat. The bar has a great atmosphere, menu diverse and food was first rate! Try it… you won’t regret it.
The cocktails are the best in town, very creative and tasty! The food is AMAZING, I’ve had several dishes and you can’t go wrong with any of them! The staff is great! What a gem in Amarillo! Perfect for girls night, date night, family dinners… highly recommend!
What a fun fun evening! We're travelling through town on business and looked for a place near our hotel and found the Public House on Google close by. We sat at the bar and just had the very best time. We made friends with two pairs of local ladies on both sides of us and made new friends. Hailey, the bartender, and Gina, the manager, could not not have been better or friendlier, spending time to chat with us even though it was a busy evening. More new friends! And the food and drinks...wow! What a find. We travel the country as well as internationally for business and this is NOT your typical pub food! Check their website and look at their menu. Hailey mixes some incredible drinks and we had the lamb appetizers that were cooked to perfection. I had cesar salad and the best Reuben sandwich I've ever had. My wife had the salmon and we took home some cheesecake to our hotel room (that we just ate before I started writing this review!). If we lived locally, we'd be regulars at this great place. Thanks so much for the great evening and food! We'll be back as soon as we can!
Great food, great cocktails, excellent service. We came here for dinner on our one night in Amarillo, and it was the perfect choice. We enjoyed some really good beer and cider (I was impressed with their cider selection) and they had several of my boyfriend's favorite obscure but delicious cocktails on the menu. Our food was great--the bread pudding is BEYOND AMAZING!!! Our server Marit was a real superstar. She was knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and about Amarillo. She was kind and funny and made our experience special!
Man! Came to Amarillo to visit family and was very pleased with how all our dinners turned out. Amarillo Club and that Italian place in the hotel I already knew were good restaurants. This place was very good. I had the tuna tataki appetizer and the elk tenderloin. Both were outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant. My relatives eat here weekly and I see why
We had the meatloaf and shrimp and grits for entrees following a crab cake and pimento cheese slider . Everything was excellent and prepared exceptionally well. We were very pleased with the service we received. The carrot cake cake and coffee topped off our dinner and made it a wonderful evening. We will be back to visit and recommend this location to anyone wanting a special evening out, a business meal to impress or a lunch with good friends. That’s our next plan to visit!
I love this place! It has been around for years and never disappoints. The lollipop lamb chops are delicious and reasonably priced! My friend always gets their salads. There's plenty of vegetarian choices and plenty for a meat eater. Their live music is always good.
Great place for drinks and dinner. The Piano Player was delightful and the service was top notch!! We sat at the Bar and Joe made sure we had a wonderful evening!! We'll definitely be back!
Honestly, I had never heard of Public House, until, I attended on (July 16, 2022) for dinner. My co-workers and I sat in the VIP room with our boss' celebrating our stores 100% Health Inspection where we work. "Never been that Very Important Person before" 🙃 We had an amazing waitress! I ordered a small salad, as well the split bone ribeye. My apologies for no pictures, of my food. I was one hungry chic and that steak did not last long. So that should tell you, it was delicious! The desserts that were split among all of us, were so darn yummy. The atmosphere was peaceful, even stepping out of the VIP room, for a few minutes, just to see the rest of the restaurant. You could sit at the bar, if that is what you want to do. I did not drink, as for me, drinking and driving, is not my game. This would definitely be a great place to take your date, or even chill by yourself. I hope this helps those who are looking for a nice place to enjoy.
Always stop here when in Amarillo. Great food, staff is super friendly. Enjoy their Happy Hour
Update-7/22. came in and thought we made a reservation for the lounge, but we messed up. The hostess was gracious and allowed us to wait for a seat in the lounge. Food and drinks were great as usual along with great service. Andy Chase makes for a great evening! Thanks again! 4 great visits. Everything we ordered was great. Servers have been informative and attentive each visit. Our favorites are the Steak eggroll appetizer and the Monte Cristo. Servers have also allowed us to sample beer before ordering. Desserts have been good. We got an overdone butter cake, but were not charged for it in the end. Also stayed 4+ hours on most recent visit because the atmosphere was so good. Some expensive dishes, but also some very reasonable options. Highly recommend getting a reservation. Love this place!
We got the BLT with avocado and the meatloaf sandwich. Both tasted great, and I liked the lattice work on the bacon, it's a nice touch. The service was timely and amicable, and if I find myself in Amarillo again, I wouldn't object to having another meal here.
Where to start!? From the relaxed ambiance, almost speakeasy atmosphere, the friendly service, the PHENOMENAL food… The greeting at the door was friendly and we were promptly sat right away with a perfect view of the singer (who was great, very relaxing). Our server was very informative, friendly, and prompt service. Seems silly but also at one point I went to the host stand to ask where the restroom was and instead of just a point of a finger they took the time to show me where to go, and about three people responded trying to help me with whatever I needed, just speaking to the overall welcoming service. We started with the teriyaki steak eggs rolls which were delicious. Then we had the featured appetizer of coconut shrimp, with a sauce that was so good. One of the guys I came with has dietary restrictions and this has to eat cleaner and had the crispy chicken apple salad, and between the presentation and his praise of a salad it must have been worthy of his accolades. The other had the Baja chicken melt. The sandwich didn’t stand a chance. He also had the house salad with honey mustard, and the prime rib soup. I did steal a bite of the soup and it was savory and perfect for the weather. I had the meatloaf. I can’t stress enough how mouth watering, write a whole review, write home about this meatloaf is. I’m not sure if it’s the mix of beef, pork, and duck, or the mushroom Demi glaze sauce or straight up love but it clearly can’t go unnoticed. It also came with mash potatoes and full tri colored carrots as the vegetable of the day and were perfectly cooked as well. So you could say I enjoyed it. 😅 Also this is my first time in Amarillo, and my first impression. ♥️ so thank you
Visited from Denver and really enjoyed our meals. Appreciated having some vegetarian options. Wished there had been some craft beers on tap instead of bottles. Excellent service from Makaylee F! She provided us with a wonderful evening 😃
Had a party of 12 and we were almost immediately seated. Our waitress did a terrific job with taking orders and getting things out in a timely manner. Food and drinks were really good!
Public House is outstanding- delicious food, amazing service, quality bar - The staff is friendly, helpful. We go there 1-2 times a week. Why go anywhere else when it’s perfect there?
Food is exceptional. The service is top notch. Amazing atmosphere. You simply can't get any better than Public House here in Amarillo!
Passing through Amarillo and what a delightful experience to find PH. From the great cocktails and wine and the armadillo egg and interesting menu…we want to stay an extra day to come back for more! The service is excellent from every contact. Amazing knowledge and care with a gluten free dietary restriction so appreciated and so many options. Thank you PH- we rate you 5 stars and only wish there were more restaurants delivering this experience and at your very reasonable prices and exceptional quality! Don’t miss this place!!
Great waitress, Marit, who listened to our windstorm stories and was very patient as it took awhile for us to decide. Prices were much lower than you would expect for the ambience, great food, and tremendous service.
Stopped in for a drink and to place a carry out order. First off this place has such a cool vibe and an extremely respectable bourbon selection. Ordered the chicken & goat cheese salad ( wife didn't let me even try it, so it must have been good), meatloaf, and a few apps. They had me at duck in the meatloaf and wow it didn't disappoint, but the veggie of the day it came with stole the show. I have no idea what this little green mana from heaven is called and checked the menu only to see it listed as veg of the day. I wish I knew what this mystery veg was as I'd become the poster child for championing it henceforth. Regardless wonderful experience and didn't have high expectations but man....what an incredible place. Bravo yall!
We loved this place. The customer service was above and beyond. Our waitress was really attuned to our needs. The food and cocktails were so good!! I have celiac disease and our waitress made sure to check with the kitchen to ensure all of my food was gluten free safe.
Love the food and the service, but the hostess not so much. Got to the restaurant at 4:50 PM. I was told by the hostess that the main dining area would not open till 5:00 and that I would have to wait till 5:15 for a reservation even though no one was there. We decided to wait. After 5 minutes or so, we were told that they could seat us in the bar area. The food was very good. We had the lamb chops, Akaushi Wagyu ribeye, elk tenderloin, Chilean sea bass, and the Monte Cristo. Hands down the Akaushi Wagyu ribeye was the best dish. It had the perfect seared crust and there as a very light sweet sauce that was just wonderful. If you are here, do yourself a favor and get this dish. Lamb chops were good, but nothing special. The composition of the elk tenderloin was a good concept. But to me the hollandaise sauce overpowered the elk. The Chilean sea has was cooked perfectly, but I wish the outside crust had some more texture to it. Monte Cristo was good, but the fries were awesome. I loved that the powered sugar hit the fries as they were perfectly crisp, soft inside, salty and slightly sweet. Bottom line: The food is wonderful, the service was great. Just bypass the hostess.
Had a wonderful dinner here and we had Makayli as our server. She was very sweet, also attentive and efficient with our ordering and tending to our needs. Highly recommend the thai honey chili chicken it was perfect. My boyfriend had the filet mignon and it was cooked just how he asked medium rare. Good quality. Will definitely be back.
Unexpected in Amarillo! We felt like we were on vacation! Lately, we have just grown tired of eating out, pretty much anywhere. Allen was like our own personal assistant for the evening and made us feel special. Service like that is uncommon, to say the least. We will be back and look forward to trying out more of the variety!
They had amazing service!! The bartender's smoked old fashioned was up to par!!! The black angus ribeye and the elk tenderloin was phenomenal!!! Top it off with Domaine Santa Duc!! Omg!! Soo amazing!! We loved our experience!! We will definitely come back!! So amazing!! We highly recommend this place!
We loved our dinner here! Socks was our server and she was excellent! She made great recommendations. Whatever you do, get the lamb chop lollipops - trust me! The flavor with the seasonings and the sauce is amazing! I had the angus filet and it was done perfectly. My husband had the slider sampler. The crab cake was amazing too. The ambiance was great. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Amarillo!
The Amadillo Eggs made a great appetizer, although there wasn't much crab flavor. I enjoyed the fish of the day for dinner. This was a blackened red grouper topped with meyer lemon beurre blanc blue crab. The grouper sat on a pile of saffron rice and came with a side of green beans. The grouper had a nice crispy outside and tender creamy inside. There was a small lag in service where I almost got up to get someone to get me another glass of wine, but perhaps there was a new staff member or something. I certainly would go back as it was overall a great experience.
The atmosphere was inviting. The food was delectable especially the meatloaf since it contained duck meat and was seared in the plancha. Highly recommended.
Very good experience overall. The food was delicious. I ordered 2 craft beers. An appetizer and dinner. For the appetizer I enjoyed the crab and cream cheese wontons. Very good flavor but surprisingly not served with a dish of any type of asian style sauce. For an entree I selected the pistachio encrusted Chilean Sea Bass with quinoa. Delicious. Served with a 3 small asparagus. The pistachio crust is very light and hardly noticeable. The portion was fair. My disappointment was that 2 craft beers, appetizer, and entree with tip came to $100 dollars. The Seabass comparatively is a $25 dish based on portion value and flavor of other places I have enjoyed this. At $37 I expected significantly more flavor and plate presentation. My advice when dining here is stick to the lower price menu items. They seem to be more in line with the level of price/portion/quality.
I highly recommend Public House. It has fine dining and great brunch options. The service is top notch and the drink menu is fantastic. Of the things I’ve had, the monte cristo is amazing, the Mac and cheese never disappoints, and the Chilean sea bass was the best fish I’ve ever had and each comes with a different price point ranging from 20/person to 50+, also depends on what else you add to your fine dining experience like their wonderful wedge or other appetizers. I tried the 2021 Chateau LaRoque Sauv Blanc, which is the perfect blend of dry and sweet, along with various other drinks including my first smoked whiskey. I highly recommend asking the bartenders to help you venture outside of your usual as they have excellent taste and they know a lot more than I do. 10/10 would go again.
Ben and Gina were absolutely amazing this evening! Their hospitality at Public House was top-tier! I was traveling across the country and they took care of me exceptionally. The food was immaculate and delicious! I had the cheese curds, Amarillo, eggs, and the Angus burger with a side of sweet potato fries and I added a side Caesar salad. I had a truly tasty local IPA that was recommended by both Ben and Gina! If you are local or simply passing through, ask for Ben as your waiter and see Gina the bar manager.
This place is a solid AMA anchor. Everything is fresh, unique dishes full of flavor, and consistent every time we go!
We stopped here for dinner on a trip through town and were so impressed! The fish and chips and angus ribeye were perfectly prepared, and the many staff members we met made us feel like family. Our server, Kira, was so attentive and friendly! One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in some time. Five plus stars! Thanks so much!
COME ON!!! There's eating at restaurant and then a proper dining experience at PH. I had shrimp enchiladas which I found to be on its own level. You see the carrots and peas in the rice, that's exactly what traditional Mexican rice carries. Presentation on all dishes brought to table have that same consistency of care and pride. The queso fresco on the black beans was surprisingly well paired. The beans cooked to perfection, soft to touch and full of flavor. With the queso fresco on top it brought out a richness to the beans that without just wouldn't have been as savory. The colored tortilla chips had a more homemade flavor than restaurant chips placed in the center at the beginning of a tex mex place. The way they cooked the shrimp to go absolutely well with the creme over the enchiladas. You can't find it anywhere else.
Deb was awesome first of all! I came in for lunch hoping to order the encrusted sea bass but realized it was only a dinner option. Despite my slight disappointment I was still very satisfied with the appetizer lamb chops and the shrimp and grits! I also had the butter cake for dessert! Everything tasted amazing!! Don’t let the outside of the restaurant fool you, it’s really pretty inside and service was great. The Espresso Martini (my favorite drink) was tiny, watery but still good.
This was our first time to try Public House. We decided, based on reviews, this would be a great place to celebrate our 29th anniversary. The atmosphere was perfect for the date, the drunken mushrooms were a fantastic and delicious appetizer, and the entrees were superb. I had the Angus filet cooked a perfect medium rare with roasted potatoes and bak choy. My bride had the elevated, and I mean elevated, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and bok choy. They were both amazing! Hands down our new favorite restaurant in Amarillo for an intimate and special date.
Public House is one of the seemingly very few healthy restaurants in Amarillo. Everything is freshly prepared, clean food, and they have wonderful bar options that are insanely hard to find, like lavender whiskey! The staff is always kind. They go above and beyond every time! For example, McKaylee (sorry if I spelled that wrong) always makes sure we're comfortable, even bringing over extra pillows from other seats in the lounge area if needed. Also, Cory S. gave us an awesome suggestion for an easy to use gluten-free finder app (Bobby Approved), which we were desperately in need of! They're just absolutely fantastic all around! Little tip: If you're planning to go in the evening on the weekend, make sure to call for a reservation slot so you get seated faster.
I actually love this restaurant. But our last experience was a little lack luster of an experience for the price. Everyone has off days so I'm hoping that's all it was. I ordered the special. Fish and chips. I had about 5 very small nuggets of fish and unfortunately the malt vinegar spilled on my plate. I do not like malt vinegar. I did not send it back or complain because I wished to enjoy my meal with my hubby. We will be back for sure service was great and what I was able to eat of my fish was delicious. My husband enjoyed the fish I couldn't eat and very much enjoyed his stuffed chicken.
Fantastic food. Everything was delectable. They have my now favorite appetizer Armadillo Eggs, which is jalapeños, cream cheese and crab wrapped in bacon. Best thing I've ever had in my mouth. Ordered the Elk Filet and Black Angus Ribeye. The cuts were tender and cooked perfectly. Had the mini cheesecake sampler. It was real cheesecake with the slightly tart taste with a dense yet creamy texture. I recommend everything we had but especially the Armadillo Eggs for an appetizer.
The meal was fantastic Merrit was our waitress and she was so nice. I was celebrating my birthday and they made it a great day. We also talked to the manager Patrick and he was incredibly kind to us. If you celebrating something this is a great place to do it!
Excellent food! Atmosphere was good, a bit tightly spaced, but doable. Waitress was not attentive at all. She never offered a single refill and we waited close to an hour to get food ordered.
We ordered food for pick up. The loaded potato soup, chicken piccata, and crunchy chicken apple salad were all delicious. It is a bit pricey, but after several disappointing meals on the road, it was well worth it to have something healthy, fresh, and tasty.
We returned for my dad’s bday dinner take two. A much better experience. We made reservations and were seated in an area that was hearing aid friendly. Our server, Cory was super, great service, thanks. All of our food choices were great. Parents split the ribeye and the kitchen split it for them with a nice presentation. I had the parm crusted sea bass, very good. My cousin and I split the Coconut and the lime cocktail, omg yummy!!! Thank you Jay for stopping by the table to visit with us, it was nice meeting you in person, thanks again. Highly recommend the Public House.
We made reservations online and my girlfriend chose the romance package, it came with flowers, a candlelight dinner, and two deserts. The food was absolutely divine and cooked to perfection. Our server Debbie was so wonderful, she was beyond kind and helpful and she made us feel so so special. My favorite part of our entire night was truly our service I couldn’t stress enough how amazing Ms. Debbie is.
Elegant and upscale. Food is delicious and creative. Saturday brunch is great; from traditional breakfast, to chicken fried steak, to omelets and things more exotic. Really well prepared and served. Large portions and reasonable prices for such quality. Much more sophisticated and elegant than the usual fare in Amarillo.
We found Public House via a Google search and decided to give it a try. We sat in the bar area and both people working were friendly, personable and professional. The drinks were great. I have never raved about a Cobb salad in a review before, but it was one of the best I’ve ever had. Entrees were a trip to flavortown. Highly recommended. Visited 8/14/25.
This place is truly AMAZING!! I had supper here on 11.22.2024 and was served by Jadynn. Her recommended choices from the menu were perfect and her sweet and bubbly aura enhanced my dining experience. BRAVO Jadynn!!! The food is DELICIOUS and the drinks are SPECTACULAR!! Highly recommend and I will definitely eat here again. Their menu options are very intriguing... 1.8.2025.. Celebrated Birthday number 54 here and the food and service were even better!! Returned on 4.18.2025 and 7.26.2025 and the food and service was Spectacular.
Wonderful place to eat! Loved the vibe, food and service. Everything we had was delicious. Photo- shrimp and grits. We also had a wedge salad with steak which was amazing. The prime rib and mushroom soup- great but not super hot. The monte cristo was really good as well. The armadillo eggs are great.
This Valentine’s Day, my husband pulled off the ultimate surprise—reservations at The Public House in Amarillo. Neither of us had been before, but after this experience? We’d gladly make it a weekly tradition. From the moment we walked in, everything was perfection. The service, the atmosphere, the food, the drinks—it all worked together in effortless harmony. The dim, intimate lighting, the elegantly displayed wine collection in the center of the restaurant… it was simply stunning. Water was served from crystal-clear carafes, our waitress recited the specials without hesitation, and the manager was personally making his rounds—checking in, chatting with guests, even bussing tables. Now that’s leadership in action. Appetizer We kicked things off with the pimento cheese-stuffed armadillo eggs. If you’re not fluent in Southern eats, that’s just a fancy way of saying bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapeños. And while they weren’t spicy at all, they packed a serious punch of flavor. The smoky bacon, creamy cheese, and subtle heat from the jalapeño? Chef’s kiss. Drinks I started the evening with a glass of Moscato, but once I saw they had Honey Mead, there was no turning back. It was smooth, rich, and exactly what I wanted. My husband opted for a Yellow Rose beer followed by an Old Fashioned, both executed to perfection. Entrées Kevin went with the prime rib special, cooked to an impeccable medium-rare and paired with creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and drunken mushrooms—which he’s now thoroughly obsessed with. I had a harder time deciding, so I went with two entrées (because why not?). First up, the elk tenderloin, rare, topped with jalapeño hollandaise and served with creamed spinach and roasted potatoes. It was hands-down the best elk I’ve ever had. My only critique? The plate had a lot of empty space, which felt a little odd presentation-wise, but flavor-wise? Flawless. We also shared the shrimp and grits, which came loaded with red-eye gravy, bell peppers, shrimp, and jalapeño sausage. While the flavors were bold and comforting, the dish leaned more towards a soup than a creamy grit dish, and the bell peppers were abundant. Not a deal-breaker, just a personal preference. Dessert Of course, we couldn’t leave without dessert. We couldn’t decide between the turtle cheesecake or the one topped with berry compote, so naturally, we got both. The turtle was my favorite, while Kevin fell for the berry—a perfect ending to a perfect meal. Now, let’s be clear—this is not your standard two-dollar-sign restaurant. We came prepared for the check, and let me tell you, it was worth every single penny. Whether you’re planning a romantic date night, celebrating an anniversary, or looking to impress the in-laws, The Public House delivers. A huge thank you to the entire staff for an unforgettable Valentine’s dinner!
What an interesting place, the building is somewhat understated on the outside but when you go through the doors be prepared to be wowed. This place is unlike anything else I’ve seen in Amarillo. We sat in the “lounge” section, this was quite a different and enjoyable experience. Pricing is toward the higher end for Amarillo, but the atmosphere, service and food are definitely worth it. A GREAT place for a different or special experience. 6/28/2024 Still an awesome experience. Jenn’ was great, came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Love this place, in my humble opinion this is the best restaurant in town.
A truly delicious experience and a gem of Amarillo, Public House offers stellar service, great atmosphere, and the food to back up their prices with delicious appetizers, main courses and an exhaustive drink menu that will leave even the most discerning of guests happy. Tonight, we had a delicious mushroom Sautee appetizer. I had the special which was a perfectly seasoned and cooked flat iron steak paired with tasty but otherwise underwhelming French fries as a side. Thankfully the steak was well worth the price of admission. My wife ordered the ribeye which came on a bed of cous-cous with some Brussel sprouts and topped with a fried egg. An odd presentation but a delicious flavor profile that will be remembered for some time. As this was our first foray into the fare that Public House has to offer I was very impressed, and am excited to try other dishes the next time we inevitably return.
My wife and I ate here for my birthday to try another fine dining restaurant in the city. We had been looking at this place for a while but never actually came in to try it. Now that we have, I can say it was well worth it. I had the Elk Tenderloin with a couple of cocktails and my wife had the steak with also a couple of drinks. To start we ate the Armadillo Eggs (weird name I know) which was quite delicious. I was fairly surprised that the Elk Tenderloin was not too gamey. Cooked at medium rare, it was a good dish to try and am glad I tried it. The drinks were also mixed well. Not too strong or watered down. In addition, the waitress that we had was very friendly and attentive to our table the whole time there. I applaud this restaurant for providing something different here in Amarillo and serving the customer with the utmost respect. I definitely recommend anyone who’s looking for a nice quiet place where they can have intimate conversation to eat at the public house.
UPDATE: We were just there a couple of weeks ago for our anniversary, and everything was divine. I went back again today, 9-18-2023, for some more Fair Fare. I started with a normal menu item, the Southwest Crispy Chicken Wrap, which was fantastic. And then finished with another funnel cake, even better than last year's, I'd say. Who needs the Midway when you can get better quality fair food here?! Original review: We visited during the Tri-State fair week, so Public House had Fair Fare. It was incredible. This corn dog has ruined all other corn dogs from here on out. The Cajun seasoning on the Tornado fries was incredible. The Street Corn was unexpectedly good, and I LOVE corn (it has the juice). We finished it off with the funnel cake with powdered sugar and their raspberry habanero sauce, and it was [chef's kiss] perfection. Love it. Fair fare ends tomorrow, so get it while you can!
I absolutely love this upscale restaurant. The lights, the bar, the staff and the food are terrific. Public House serves some of the best dishes around Amarillo. The atmosphere is great with dim lighting. Sox was my waitress, and she was absolutely the best. Very friendly and outgoing. The ragoons are a must try. In fairness, all of the food is top-notch and delicious.
I brought the family which included my smaller kids. Although the service and everything about this place was great, it really isn't a kid restaurant. This is a romantic night out or business dinner or something a bit more elevated then arguing with the kids about what type of soft drink they can have. The food was fantastic! I wish I lived in town just to frequent this lovely establishment. Service as I said was very accommodating to my group and very attentive.
My family came here after my sister's college graduation and we were so happy that we came! We were seated in a separate room with our own table and it was perfect so that we could all catch up without having to shout. I had a delicious dirty martini and the stuffed chicken breast was amazing. We had to wait for a thunderstorm to pass so we ordered dessert and the triple chocolate brownie and creme brulee did not disappoint. Thank you for making our evening so nice!
The food and desserts were off the charts. The wine list was very good. The whole experience was pleasant. The waiter was a little forgetful; I had to ask him for some items more than once, and the location is a little weird. I wouldn't have thought looking from the outside that a restaurant in a plaza would have such a good refine menu and be four stars.
The food, as always, was excellent. The service today, however, was disappointing. Once the food was served we didn't see our server again until she brought the check. Then she never came back to collect our card, someone else eventually did. Getting our card back was another ordeal. The waitstaff is typically prompt and courteous. Today was probably just an off day and will not keep us from going back.
Visiting Amarillo this restaurant was near the hotel and we decided to give it a try. I thought it was going to be kind of like a casual brewery setting. Ya no this was trying to be a really nice restaurant. Like needed a reservation nice restaurant. We were eating early so they got us in. Our food was good but I think the best thing was the wedge salad. Honestly for the price the food and drinks should've been better.
Fancified food to justify prices. Steak was cooked perfectly to order. Great bourbon/ whiskey list. Nice beer selection.
The place was very clean and professional. The food was awesome however if your celiac don’t eat the prime rib soup it is not gf. Unless the bread they served with it wasn’t gf. There’s also worries of cross contamination. Whatever the reason there was an instant reaction to something not right.
I am rooting for this place, but the food is simply inconsistent. We have had some great meals here and some pretty disappointing ones. The cocktails are always good. Really like the lounge seating area. The prime rib soup is really good. Note to owner: your team that makes the salads during lunch does a great job. You order the same salad at dinner and its really disappointing. Specifically talking about the quinoa salad. During lunch, the salad is served with a lot of good variety in the ingredients. During dinner, its mainly a bunch of bland lettuce. This has happened multiple times.
Went here for lunch with my wife and adult kids. We started with the seared tuna Tataki. Amazing loved it. The Wasabi was more sweet than heat. I really liked it. My wife got the lamb chops appetizer as her meal with a cup of prime rib and mushroom soup. I am not a fan of lamb. She said it was great it had a vanilla porter jelly. It's very tasty. I tried her soup. I will definitely be back when it gets colder for the soup. I had the potato soup and meatloaf sandwich. Loved the soup again, and I am not a soup guy. The meatloaf is unique it has beef pork and duck on texas toast with bbq sauce.. It was good but not quite my taste. It's still good, though I ate the whole thing. My son had a BLT with added avocado and fried egg on Texas toast. He said he would definitely do it again. My daughter had the Public House Mac and Cheese with 3 cheeses, and she added crab. The Mac was good, but with the crab added, it reminded me of tuna helper. I like tuna helper, though . LOL. My daughter's boyfriend had a Angus burger it was huge, and he ate the whole thing. He normally does not usually finish his meal. We will definitely be back. There are quite a few things on the menu we would like to try.
All of the food was just so, so. Lamb chop appetizer looked amazing, but was very overly salted and glazed with a vanilla syrup that was overly sweet. Sounded good, but not in reality. The service was fine, but nothing special. I had to ask for a wine list and then ask again for a beer list when that was not included with the original list. We waited for 20 min. to be seated even though we arrived at the restaurant shortly after they opened and no other guests were there. We were traveling, but even given the chance we would not return.
Just an okay experience. Some parts of the meal were good. I had the snapper and it was prepared well. Wife had spicy Thai chicken that was not very good. We then ordered the special dessert, Grand Marnier creme brulee. It turned out to be coffee flavored. Tasted okay, but did not meet the expectation.
Great waitstaff, very professional and attentive. The restaurant itself was beautiful in design and ambiance. It was very unfortunate the the food quality was severely lacking for the price point. One of the meals ordered at our table had ham that was clearly expired on taste and visual inspection had discoloration. The appetizers were good but the food was hot, the ingredients just were not fresh or high quality. For the price, we would have preferred to eat somewhere else.
Party of 11…Everyone got something different. $85 steak was not worth it. Asked for medium rare and came out well done. We waited 45min to an hour for main course. Sea Bass was not crusted and very fishy tasting. Salmon was dry and over done. Pasta was good, shrimp and grits was good. Elk was good, came with side 2 Brussels cut in half. And 2 baby potatoes cut in half. Ribeye steak look so much like the waygu steak. 2 people eating them said they tasted the same beside wagyu had the apple glaze. Chicken strips for the Kids came out last. Would think the easiest to make. We had several appetizers, mushrooms, Tuna, cheese curds, egg rolls and wontons. Every appetizer was really good. For the price and what we received overall the place is not worth it. Everything took way too long to get to us. Somethings were wrong, drink wise and food wise. We were there for over 2 hours. And I get large party. We sat at 7:35 ordered dinner at 8:15. Food didn’t reach the table till 9pm. This same group of people travel to the mountains every year and we will mark this off our list next year. Big Texas steaks, price and service are 10 times better than this place.
Tuna tataki sesame coated came out flavorless, lamp lollipops same, elk tenderloin tasted like unseasoned beef, Chilean sea bas was cooked perfectly but also flavorless, drinks didn't come around for at least 30 minutes and the owner stopped to talk to every table except ours. Not that I cared to speak to him just principle of the matter.
My husband and I came last night. 11/18/2022 We had a 7:45 reservation and didn’t get seated until 8:05. Appetizers came out timely, but entrees took 45 minutes and all the sides for my husbands Mac and cheese were missing. We waited another 15 minutes for them to bring those out to add to his cold Mac and cheese. We also had to ask 2 different people to bring us the soup we ordered. The dessert was great and my steak was cooked well but the veggies underneath were underwhelming. We chose public house for our monthly date because we expected a high end, top tier experience, especially for what we paid for everything, but we were pretty disappointed. Altogether it took two hours for our entire meal. Hopefully a better experience next time.
So just to be fair the I could of went to Texas roadhouse and got a better steak.. I ordered the 80 dollar Akaushi "Wagyu" ribeye medium rare and my girlfriend had the Angus filet. I picked her up from the airport after not seeing her for 2 months and figured i would take her somewhere nice... well that 80 dollar steak had no flavor at all and was tough as leather.. she said her steak was ok. We also got these cheese curds that were actually pretty good but just a disappointment when I could of went somewhere a 1/3rd of the price and got better food.
I made reservations for new years eve, for 4. We arrived a few minutes early and were sat in a timely manner. From that point on, our experience was terrible. The service was mediocre at best, the food was terrible. My daughter and I ordered the filet cooked medium, and they were extremely rare. My husband ordered the special, and was charged $75.00. The food was NOT good and the prices were outrageous for what we ordered. We will never go back!
Reservation required apparently. I got the distinct feeling that they were not comfortable with a family coming in. Or it was a race thing. I'll give them the out that it was not a place for small children. Very fancy schmancy. To the point of feeling stuffy but we have a fairly well behaved 3 year old so we tried waiting for one of the approximately dozen or so empty tables in view for a few minutes before cancelling our place in line (1 of 1 patrons/groups waiting). Cannot comment on the food as we never even saw any. All the tables were either blocked or empty so didn't even get a visual of any food. The hostesses were much nicer to the three couples that came in after we did. Guess a reservation is required for general pleasantries as well as a table. Not sure what we did to fluster the little blonde so overtly. Maybe her braid was too tight. She kept rubbing her head and avoiding eye contact. Her Hermione lookalike coworker had to do the talking after her initial "Do you have a reservation?" Well sister, I didn't before but I do now.
I made a reservation here and still had a 10 minute wait. The waitress was very sweet but not very attentive. The drinks were good, I have no complaints there. The food wait was ridiculous! Once we got our food it was COLD. I returned it after 15 minutes of trying to get the attention of the waitress. The service fell very short for the price range that this restaurant is at. The "MANAGER" never went to my table to apologize for anything. I obviously didn't pay for the $47 entree that I returned due to it being cold and me not wanting to wait another hour for. I will most likely never be back. Such a waste of a date night.
Every time I come here I feel like I get treated differently for not being Caucasian. The waiter seemed to cater to other people more. It’s honestly sad because the Mac and cheese is fire. Our server Cory S. was polite but never really checked on us too much and didn’t seem to worry about us as a table. He was never paying attention, we asked for the armadillo eggs that he never brought, brought us the wrong drink after correcting him the first time and still charged us for it, which I understand things happen sometimes but it just seemed consistent the whole night as other times. It just seems like every time I try to give this place another chance they just always disappoint. For the cost of it we’d expect more, we get treated better at a Texas Roadhouse than this. The cost of food and drinks for 3 was around 150 plus another 40 for tip. It’s definitely not worth it. especially don’t recommend to any POC unless you “look the part”. The drink selection sucks although the drinks were very strong. My mom made a comment about how she could make the dishes better at home. This was her first time and definitely last.
We had reservations and we were seated pretty quickly. The service was terrible. The whole hour and a half we were there our waiter came to our table 2 times. He was very attentive to his other tables but for some reason not us. He came once to take our order and then for the check. We tried ordering another round of drinks and they never came. The food was mediocre. I’ve eaten here multiple times and have always enjoyed my meals. This time it tasted like the food came from a package and it was barely warm. We asked to speak with a manager and waited 30 minutes. She never came. I called and spoke with another manager and he said they had a lot of complaints from that night and they were working on solutions. Very disappointed.
I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the experience my Latina partner and I had during our visit to Public House on January 13th around 3:00 PM. We have been loyal patrons of your establishment for quite some time, including before the ownership change to Jay Brent. Unfortunately, this incident was unacceptable and has made it clear that this will be our last visit. Upon our arrival, the host greeted us politely and professionally, informing us we could seat ourselves. We selected a table near the center of the dining room, informed the host of our choice, and received acknowledgement before sitting down. Within minutes, our server came by, and we placed our order. Shortly thereafter, a middle-aged woman with gray hair—who was not the host—approached our table. In a loud and stern voice, she told me, “Next time you need to wait to be seated.” Her tone and manner were unnecessarily harsh and condescending. I explained that we had informed the host of our seating choice and received approval, but she showed no willingness to listen, and her demeanor remained rude and dismissive. The interaction was humiliating and disruptive, especially as it occurred in full view of other patrons. Upset by this treatment, I approached the host stand to address the situation directly with this woman, whom I now refer to as “Karen” due to her unprofessional behavior. I told her that no one has the right to speak to us—or anyone—like that in a service establishment. I also made it clear that her comment about “next time” would, in fact, be the last time we visit. She said nothing in response, showing a complete lack of accountability. At that point, I decided to cancel our order and leave. I left $20 to cover the coffee we had received but walked out feeling deeply disrespected and unwelcome. This is not the first time we’ve experienced discomfort at Public House. During a visit last month, while seated near the bar, my partner and I endured unwelcome stares and whispers from other patrons, which made for an equally unpleasant experience. These repeated incidents have left us feeling singled out and unwelcome. Following this most recent encounter, we chose to take our business to Sa•vor Tapas Bar instead, where the concept of hospitality is genuinely understood. The contrast in how we were treated there was night and day and served as a stark reminder of what excellent service looks like. We’ve also noticed a decline in the overall atmosphere and management approach at Public House since the ownership change. While your servers consistently provide excellent service, the menu has remained stagnant, and interactions with management often leave the impression that customers are doing the establishment a favor by dining there. This type of experience is unacceptable in any business, especially one that should pride itself on hospitality. It’s even more disheartening to see similar complaints from other People of Color who, like us, felt unwelcome or unfairly treated. Our money is worth the same as anyone else’s, and all guests deserve to be treated with respect. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address these issues to improve the experience for future guests. If not, I fear that this approach will inevitably lead to declining business and a difficult future for your establishment. Respecting and welcoming all patrons is not a big ask—it’s the bare minimum.
