My favorite spot for tacos is the neighborhood, if not all of NYC! Carne enchilada (spicy pork) is my goto choice. Also, you can't go wrong with the tortas (mexican-style sandwich) here.

No idea why this Mexican place is called "Athens", I guess they're going with the whole "Astoria is Greek" trope, but this place has some of the best Mexican I've ever had anywhere in the country... Seriously!

This is a great spot. Ordered chorizo, al pastor, and carnitas tacos. They were each incredible and seasoned perfectly. Have been ordering and taking out from other mexican places in astoria for years. None of them top this place. Exactly what you want from a small restaurant like this for take out. Genuine people who care about the food they are putting out.

Highly recommended! Some of the best Mexican food in NYC. Super friendly service, the food is fresh and absolutely delicious, and delivery is always very quick! The specials are always amazing, but everything on the menu is on point as well, especially the enchiladas (try the mole), huevos rancheros for breakfast, tortas (try the spicy pork), quasadillas are great bang for your buck (try the tinga de pollo), and the bistec alla Mexicana is truly outrageous.

I Don’t know a single word of Spanish nor am I Hispanic , they welcomed me and fed me well . Food was delicious , great vibe & bathrooms were clean . God bless them . Check them out for sure , well worth it .

I've been going to this savory little gem for as long as I've lived in Astoria, and they've never let me down. Legend has it the spot was once a Greek restaurant, with the gyro spicket left behind once it switched hands. Now it's used to imbue their delictable pork to levels of flavor and texture usually reserved for a side of ambrosia and served to the God's. But seriously... Try the tacos, nachos, huracche, tortas, rice and beans (best in town), tostada's, or entrees, and expect the world, they'll deliver. Also, they deliver. J

I come here all the time since I was just a child, and I consider it my favorite restaurant. I would say I come at least once or twice a week. The prices are amazing, the food is delicious and always has so much flavor. I personally love the tacos and the Tinga quesadilla. The service has never been great so I don’t expect that. Most of them don’t speak English, luckily I speak Spanish but it must be frustrating to those who can’t. Great food, great prices, usual bad service. And I’m saying this honestly as a person whose been coming for years. Would recommend though! Especially if you want cheap authentic food.

I ordered a Carnitas burrito. When I say it is the largest burrito I have ever been given, I am not exaggerating in any way. This was a great eating experience, the prices are super reasonable, and these fine folks churned my food out in about 7 minutes. I will be eating here again, likely to work through their menu. First went there and ordered the chalupas, the @#$+** chalupas, get 'em. I ordered a torta the next time but only because I thought tostadas were what I ordered the first time because I wanted some more of them chalupas. For some reason I said tortas. I was so mad because I had the taste for those @#$+** chalupas. I cursed that poor torta out and man-handled that bag as if it was somehow the torta's fault. I was like this better be the best @#$+" torta I ever had. Sure enough, I was apologizing to the torta as I tore it up. The next time I said tostadas with confidence and again wrong. The tostada was a good tostada, wasn't as hot and heavy over it as I was the @#$+** chalupas and tostadas. THEN I FINALLY ORDERED THE RIGHT ONES AND THEY, were really good but I think they switched the flour shell to the corn one and I enjoyed the flour shell a bit more. I could have also ordered the wrong thing again. Still, I'll keep coming back. I find it can be a little difficult to order from on phone sometimes, they can get busy, but the staff is very friendly.#@#$&**Chalupas #@#$&""torta

This place is great. It obviously isn't part of a large chain of places, and it's nice to be supporting a small business. The food is about average mexican food, but the service was speedy and they had a good amount of seating in the back.

Great late night spot with good service and good food. This was the second time we stopped by this restaurant and would definitely return. The lady that served us is so sweet and works very hard managing the restaurant by herself as it gets busy at night. The first time I visited I ordered the bistec a la mexicana, but didn’t love it mostly because there were too many jalapeños for my liking and unfortunately the meat beef was a bit too difficult to chew. The rice and beans were delicious through. So the second time we ordered with chilaquiles with eggs, chicken tacos with extra ingredients, rice and beans on the side, + guac and chips. We were very satisfied with our meal.

One of the best 2 dollar tacos you'll ever have. I don't eat red meat so I destroy chicken tacos from this place (if I did, I'd get the al pastor which everyone loves). I generally get 4 and load them up with the sauces that come with it. If you get Athens, you'll be coming back for more. Incredible for a quick meal, even better for a late night drunk snack.

I liked the food. Tacos and salsa are sooo good. Service : a bit poor because the waitress ( chubby and red hair) was not attending my table ( like asking if I need more water or if everything is ok) and she was singing like a wolf.

The best late night food in the area. Great tacos. Why do they have to be so stingy with the sauce on the side though? They only ever give one of the either green or red sauce, and if I don't ask for one, sometimes I don't get one at all.

Chill atmosphere. Good food. The employees speak enough english. The menu is not as informative in english as I would like. Open super late which is helpful. Not sure why a Mexican place is named Athens

I'm a big fan of Mexican foods even I'm a Korean. Had chance to order tacos for lunch. Compare with other Mexican food restaurant just all right. Not super excited. Tacos was bit smaller than what i had from other restaurant and amount of meat wasn't good enough.

The food is the forte of this place, despite of having a Greek name it’s a traditional Mexican Restaurant, they can do a little bit more on the decoration and the prices (They are not the cheapest) but they have a fast service. Make sure to try their al Pastor Tacos and Flour tortilla and steak (Tacos Árabes)

Tried to order in person with the pics yet the cashier kept on getting it wrong. Come with someone who can translate.

Picked some tacos and quesadillas and they forgot to give me some salsa. Wanted to order something else from the menu as well but didn’t have it at that moment. Having salsa with the tacos is essential.

The tacos had lots fat pieces and less meat . Not a good place to order Mexican food .

I by no means expected a fine-dining experience and I have never before felt compelled to leave a negative review for a casual restaurant, but the food was just terrible. For some inexplicable reason they put loads of parmesan on the burritos, the meat in the grilled beef burrito was unchewable and extremely low-quality and the burritos were totally overstuffed with bland rice. Generally, the food felt like Mexican food made by people who never had Mexican food before (which is odd as all the workers were Latin). The atmosphere was a bit run-down and the tables and chairs were really shaky, but that’s usually not something I would care about, as long as the food is good. The only good part about this entire place was that the servers were very nice and friendly and the food was relatively cheap (though still not worth it).

I bought a torta to go and when I opened to eat it, the chicken did not look fresh and was stiff. It was supposed to be my breakfast and I didn’t get to enjoy it. the food is great but the staff is very discriminatory against blacks who live 5 minutes away in the projects, The delivery guy claims he is so afraid, but you have more criminals in any other place, including Mexico, to worry about and I like Mexicans but dont discriminate against me because of were I live. The management literally told me plainly that they will not deliver to me because I live there. First of all it's in Astoria and other races live here in this project. and its vey popular. 've had my food delivered before, but this manager, she totally was rude. It's sad to have great food and poor service, Sitting at home, too tired to cook had a 4 hour appointment, pissed off. This happened two nights in a row.

I’ve been coming here for years and the food has always been great. Recently, they have new staff members who are overcharging. We sat down for lunch and received a check that only had the total amount (not itemized). It was $15 more than what I calculated based on the menu. When I asked for an explanation, the woman (younger waitress, short, dark hair) said it was taxes and other fees. I left it alone. A week later I returned for dinner and decided not to have dinner at the restaurant after seeing the same waitress who over charged me. I decided to do take out instead. Yet again, my bill came up to $5 more. When I asked for an explanation, the woman said, it’s taxes and you have to pay for the bag. I wasn’t aware a plastic bag cost an extra $2. It’s really disgusting. I never had this problem before. Really disappointed.

Don’t waste your money here, they over charged us like crazy, the food is gross and has no flavor😩. So disappointed. They got me and my friends order wrong twice after we explained to them for 5 minutes what we wanted. It was a simple order. We got home and opened the bag to see the order was still wrong. On top of that the food was disgusting and had no flavor. I love Mexican food so this was very disappointed. Will never step foot in this place again.

I’ve been ordering from this place for over a year and have always ordered the Arab cemitas the same way. This time they sent them completely different from how I usually get them. When I called the restaurant, the only response I got was that it was the delivery driver’s fault, which makes no sense because the issue was clearly with how the food was prepared. I don’t know if they changed the chef or what happened, but the food quality was very poor this time. On top of that, the sauces were just thrown into the bag and arrived spilled and mixed together. I paid $40 for three items and received this. Very disappointing experience compared to what I was used to from this place

I just had a very concerning experience after ordering food from here. The first two times I ordered, the food was delicious. Today I ventured out and tried something new. I got chips with salsa...the salsa tasted like it was mixed with chemicals and the sauce was FIZZING inside of the container. I've never tasted or seen anything like this. Then the enchiladas were clearly frozen and they heated them up. The taste was horrendous. I had to call GrubHub because no one at the restaurant spoke English. I got a refund thank God because all the food went straight in the trash. That salsa.....is extremely concerning. You know what, now this place gets one star instead of the three that I was going to give. I just had my mother call because she speaks Spanish, I don't, and the lady on the phone was EXTREMELY rude. She told my mother that she is sending someone to my house to check the salsa. So my mother said just check/taste the one u have at the restaurant. She hung up on us. ONE STAR!!!
