Porta 23 is a quiet standout place in the sea of dining options on this side of Astoria. The restaurant is cozy without being cramped, and an excellent choice for a quiet date night, girls night, or in our case, a chance to feed the whole family and avoid cooking! We’re always warmly greeted and served quickly. I love how generous the portions are compared to the price. Tonight, we had the mussels in saffron sauce, spicy rigatoni, which was served with a giant ball of burrata, the grilled skirt steak, served with crazy rice, roasted broccolini and pico de gallo, the linguini frutti de mare and dessert consisting of flan and churros. The steak was cooked to perfection, though the cut was chewy in some areas. Everything else was stellar. The dessert was amazing!! The flan is a family recipe passed down for many years, and the churros were generously dusted in cinnamon sugar and served with warm dipping chocolate, warm dipping caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on a homemade guava jam. Drinks were good, but not strong enough for my own taste. Service was great, and they were welcoming with our littles. Would definitely come back!
We went here for a birthday dinner and everything was good. The service was great and the atmosphere is very intimate and quiet. Great for small parties of 2 or 4. Food was good but i wasn’t blown away. Very simple dishes at a good price point. The flan was the best part of the meal. I would recommend here for a casual date night
We had the most delicious dinner here last night! Every ingredient was cooked perfectly, every sauce was delicious, 100% win. We got a cocktail each, and bravo to our lovely waiter (who was actually also the mixologist)! The drinks were refreshing, flavorful, and well-mixed. We had the Porta 23 burger and the salmon. I will reiterate: every single thing on the plate was delicious, mains, sides, sauces. Clean plate club. Genuinely considered licking the plate. The lava cake was also just stupid good. You know when you take a bite of something, and it's so good you throw your hands up and laugh? This. Do yourself a favor. Eat here.
This place is fantastic! The calamari is paired with grilled peppers, perfect combination. The drinks per strong and balanced. Richie is a master at his craft
Great Happy Hour, Super friendly staff/service and cool vibes. The Caribeño was fantastic and the sriracha brussels were also awesome. PDQ is a must order app as well. Highly recommend!
We went on a Friday night and they had great live music. The service was fast and the food and cocktails just delicious. The nachos with tuna tartar were the star of the night.
I love Porta 23. Thé food is always delicious and they are so accommodating. Easy to walk by cause it is small so keep an eye out. Wonderful service and they treat you super well and make a point to remember customers who come in often. It is my favorite spot in the neighborhood for an intimate date or to take myself out and relax when I don’t want to eat at home and want to treat myself. Also great to pick up the cheese bread for if you are hosting
Perfect little spot for date night, cute space and the menu is legit and has something for everyone. Will be back to check out more of the menu. Here were our must try dishes: 🍖 BABY BACK RIBS 💦 MUSSELS in a Saffron sauce 🥗 BEET SALAD 🍝 FRUTTI DI MARE 🍮 Homemade Flan
What a fantastic quaint restaurant. I can wholeheartedly say service, food and drinks are all top notch. Incredible happy hour drinks to add. So many places to eat in Astoria and this is a standout spot.
Everything about this place is everything you want in a restaurant! I don’t normally write reviews but everything so amazing, I promised our server I would! First let me start by saying we found this place on the Pulsd app (we use it to find cute dinner dates every week). In our experience we’ve had places treat us differently for using it which was my fear going out but not PORTA23. They were like “cool” and the IMPECCABLE service began. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant set the tone for ambiance and comfortability. NOW TO THE FOOD; again the point of us going out was to try new foods, having the taste palate of a 4 year old I was about to order either the burger or chicken Sandwhich on their menu but my boyfriend convinced to try something different. We got a plate of calamari first, it was my first time trying it! It was SO GOOD! They give you marinara and a sweet chiIi sauce. We liked it better with the sweet chili than the marinara. For entrees I went with the safe choice and tried this Chicken Pilaf. I took one bite and almost cried, the flavors bounced around my mouth like a firecracker. It was savory, yet sweet, the pickled cabbage on top really pulled it together and the chicken was fried to perfection. It wasn’t dry at all. 10/10. My boyfriend got the Harvest Squash and after one bite gave an immediate thumbs up. He said he admired the presentation of the squash as he thought it would’ve just been on the plate with sides. But it was like art! He said the shrimp was tender and juicy and he inhaled it. The drinks were delicious as well. I got the Sophie B which to me tasted like a Moscow mule which I enjoyed, I also got a District26, which I wasn’t a fan of. I’m more of a rum girl so if you love vodka, that drink is for you! My boyfriend got the lost soul and the vagabond and loved them both! Lastly desert we ended with the churros! As fans of things that are not sweet. You can tell the ice was made from scratch. It was smooth and whipped to perfection. They give you caramel and chocolate syrup on the side either churros. One thing I will say is I wish the sticks were slightly bigger. I’m not a fan of chocolate but my boyfriend is and he said it wasn’t too sweet. The churros itself were light, airy and were perfectly baked. We would 100% go back in a heartbeat!
My husband and I had a wonderful evening at Porta 23. Adrian our server was very friendly and accommodating. Food and service was a 10/10, I highly recommend this establishment.
Porta 23 has a great looking menu, I order a few appetizers and drinks. The wings were the perfect blend of sweet and spice, a calamari was probably the best calamari I’ve ever had, the sauce were fantastic. The burger was so juicy! This is the first time in over a year I miss living in the city just so I could be close to the gem! The service was impeccable! The owner clearly has a passion for the business. The atmosphere is so chill and I had a great time out!

Porta 23 was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. The food looked so delicious that my fiancé and I had to try it, so we decided to go for our engagement anniversary since we were local. We started off our night with a couple cocktails and mussels. We tried their El Vulcan and La Picador. Just wow! El Vulcan was by far the best spicy cocktail I have ever had and La Picador was delicious. The best part is they use NO SYRUPS! That was big for us. We usually get mussels everywhere we go and let me tell you, these are at the top of our list now. The sauce was too good. For our main meals, I had to try the Moranga and it did not disappoint. It was very comforting and flavorful. My fiancé got the 1/2 chicken and she really enjoyed it. We also got to try a couple of shots of their house pineapple infused Stolinachya Vodka. Ask them how they make it and you’ll have no choice, but to try it. So delicious and the smoothest vodka you’ll ever have. We then finished our night with some of the best flan we have ever had. I grew up eating flan and I had nothing like this one. The consistency and taste had me wanting more. The owner, Patryck, was really nice and we enjoyed our conversations with him. His passion for food and drinks really stands out and he puts quality first which is what we appreciated. We’ve been to many restaurants in the area, but this is a spot we’ll definitely be coming back to many times.
Came here for dinner xmas eve. Fantastic food and drinks! One of the best pasta dishes ive had. Everything was delicious! Great service. Will be back soon to check out brunch! A hidden gem.
This was our 1st time ordering a full Thanksgiving meal to avoid the hard work of cooking, and we would definitely order again from Porta 23!!! We received excellent-quality food at a great price. The roasted turkey was absolutely incredible: perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful on the inside, and wonderfully crispy on the outside. The meal included cornbread, squash soup, sweet potato puree, French beans, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and two litters of a special coquito. Everything was fresh and delicious!!! We don't really drink alcohol, so I requested a lighter version, and it was such a tasty treat. We also added a flan, which paired perfectly as dessert. We had more than enough food for 8-12 people. God bless the chef and his team for putting so much heart into this deliciously made meal.
We love Porta23! We come here all the time and always have a great experience. Delicious food and yummy, well-priced drinks (good happy hour, my husband loves the caipirinhas, I often get the sangrita, and the beers are reasonably priced). Staff is friendly and attentive (shout-out to Patrick! always kind and hardworking). In terms of food, there is truly something for everyone: the South American food is great- obviously! (highlights: milenese, picahna), though I often get the burgers (esp BBQ burger- so, so good) or chicken sandwich because they are so juicy, delicious, and gigantic. Recently tried the spicy rigatoni alla vodka (not spicy) and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was as well. Great food, great drinks, great service. 10/10 spot, highly recommend! One of our favorites in Astoria.
I’ve visited Porta 23 three times now and have loved each visit! I have not had a bad dish of food yet. My top favorites are the yucca fries, the squash, the calamari, and the CARIBEÑO. The service is phenomenal and all the cocktails / wine I’ve tried, have been amazing! Visited for Easter this year, New Years last year, and took my family in today!
Patrick and the entire staff are always great. The service is top notch and the food will keep you coming back. This is a nice go-to option in the neighborhood. The piranha is delicious. The Milanese, all their hamburgers etc. Drinks are great too.

Porta 23 is a small, nice place in Astoria. Its dishes are so good. My wife and I shared calamari, poke ahi tuna crisps, and some signature drinks. I didn't know that the Brazilian and Indian combo of sweet and spicy deliciousness was possible! I don't even like too much spice in my food, usually, but this was too good to miss. Good prices and service too.
Porta 23 in Astoria is a great place to enjoy brunch. The food is delicious and well prepared, making every dish very satisfying. The service is excellent, with attentive and friendly staff who make you feel welcome throughout the experience. The atmosphere is calm, cozy, and inviting, perfect for a relaxed brunch with friends or family. One of the highlights is their unlimited drinks option, where for just $23 extra you can enjoy 90 minutes of unlimited beverages with many drink choices available, making the brunch experience even more enjoyable.
They have live music and food didn’t take long to serve. The food was delicious for the value. Although some items are more worth trying than the rest.
This place was pretty good. I placed a delivery order from Porta 23, as they were running a BOGO on a few items via UberEats and everything showed up packaged well and still in good shape. Order totaled to $147. A bit pricey, especially without the BOGO inclusions, but pretty enjoyable. I ordered the - Picanha- $30 (Grilled top sirloin, arroz maluco & pico de gallo) - Seared Salmon - $27 (Sautéed yuca, spinach & honey passion fruit glaze) - Calamari - $16 (served w a side of fresh grilled lemon, spicy marinara and sweet chili sauce) - Buffalo Wings $14 - Flan, Pao de Queijo & Yuca Fritters were part of the bogo deals I typically, on a first time order at a restaurant don't tell them how to prepare my steak if they don't ask outright. Plus I think you should really only mention if you prefer your steak prepared rare or well done, since those are both two different extremes when it comes to preference. It is my sort of test of the chef's expertise. I prefer mine like I think it should always be prepared lol, medium/medium well, so my Picanha steak was a bit more cooked than I prefer, but I chalked it up to some additional cook time that possibly occurred as it traveled to me. They give you a healthy portion of steak and it was pretty tender. I didn't care for the arroz maluco. I typically love fried rice, period, but this was a bit too bacon heavy. Between that and the steak, I was wishing there was an actual vegetable included in the dish, traditional to the entree or not. The Picanha dish is def missing something and could be reworked a bit. Salmon entree was good. Ha, restaurants seem to love putting wilted spinach with salmon dishes. This dish could have used a bit of 'bite', maybe asparagus? Everything was...soft, from the fish to the yuca to the spinach, but still good nonetheless. Definitely a comfort meal. Salmon was hearty and tender. The PDQ was delicious, but the Yuca fritters were a bit on the dry side, which can often happen with yuca. The calamari was very good and maintained its crispy exterior even in delivery. No notes. Buffalo wings were good, but the garnish that they used to razzle dazzle them made the wings a bit soggy, so I would have them as a dine in option or ask them to not include the slivered carrots and celery if I ordered them again; however the flavor and tenderness was there. All in all a good experience.

The brunch, although reasonably priced, was a disappointment. The best plate we had was the avocado toast with two eggs although I could have made this at home no problem. The fritter balls were just ok with small amounts of meat and cheese, and the watery poached eggs with probably packaged hollandaise sauce lacked lemon flavor. The burger was extremely salty and came with frozen fries. The service was better than the meal and the bartender was very cordial. I doubt that we will revisit Porta 23. P.S. we expected much more considering all of the hype on the web.
The manager is extremely unprofessional and rude. Hang up on me after yelling refusing to refund the order that was completely wrong. Then called me back pretending to be an owner telling me to off basically. I ordered truffle Mac and ginger ale. Ale didn’t came and they gave me a lobster Mac (I’m allergic to). Good job, used to be one of my favorite places in Astoria to get a dinner 👍 Edit: it’s actually funny to lie about ‘abusive language’ (yes I perhaps have a rough manner of speech, but it wasn’t aimed at staff which was very clear and wasn’t abusive) instead of just acknowledging the wrong doing and refunding right away. it also shows in the way you answer to other bad reviews, Patryck. Being told “talk to Uber” instead of immediate acknowledgment is poor service just in case you didn’t know
