Tip: Fridays are busy with a college crowd; visit on other nights for a quieter setting. Be aware that the karaoke sign-up is done via text, which some found slow.

We had such a great time at karaoke on Wednesday. The bar was super clean the drinks were good. I really enjoyed the environment. This was my very first karaoke experience ever. And it was a wonderful one I will definitely be going back
Cant really judge the food bc I didnt have any, but it smelled good! Our waitress in Room #1 did an excellent job. Didnt catch her name, but the curvy brunette with the facial peircings...GREAT JOB! The atmosphere is relaxed and cool. Gonna have to bring my hubs back. Thanks! Signed - the long last name😉
A lot of fun. Long wait to get on the list for karaoke but the apps we got we great and so were the drinks. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
We went on a Friday night for karaoke that started at 7pm. We showed up at around 830pm and we only got to sing twice. We left around midnight, but the bar is open till 2am. The atmosphere was great. The songs are listed in an app. To let the DJ know you want to sing you text them with your name and song. If you are challenged by technology you might be frustrated. We ordered jalapeno poppers and boneless wings in sesame garlic sauce. They both were really good. Our waitress was excellent and made sure we always had drinks or anything else we needed.
I love this karaoke bar. It’s always been a favorite since I moved to Austin 15+ years ago. Wish I still knew people who enjoyed karaoke as much as I do. I highly suggest checking it out. Some of us are really good and out in a show. You’ll enjoy it if you’re a big love music fan. Fun times. <3
Best karaoke bar in Austin! The staff here and the people who go here have become like a family to me. This bar definitely has a better group of singers going on stage in the city, but always entertaining. Decent food, good drinks, and friendly people, what more could you ask for? It can get busy and for good reason. If the main stage isn't your jam, they have private rooms too :)
Great fun atmosphere with a great wait staff. The food is excellent try the BLT with a nice IPA and you will be good to go. You may even order a second to take home. Yup, the BLT is pretty good. Friday's are the busy days where you get some college crowd but if you want a more quieter setting try Wednesday or Thursday that's when it's mostly regulars and you'll have no problem on wait time for your turn to get on stage. If you like karaoke, good food, good beer and fun people this is a great place to visit. And yes the bathrooms are clean.
It was awesome finding a friendly place to watch the Seahawks game, followed by the Marines. Food was decent for var food. Hubby love the loaded cheese fries, said best ever. Staff was great, vibe was cool 😎. Outside appearance could use some TLC, but what you'd expect from a sports bar, just wish they coukd guarantee a Hawks win.
We had a fantastic time at Common Interest Karaoke Bar! It was a fun night out with the family. However, the karaoke sign-up process could be improved. The system of texting the DJ to queue up wasn’t very effective—in our experience, we texted at 10:45 PM but only got a response at 10:58 PM, and we never got to sing before we left at midnight. A more streamlined system would ensure everyone gets a chance to perform. Additionally, while the drinks were a bit watered down, our waiter added to the enjoyment with his humor. Despite these issues, we’re definitely looking forward to coming back!
It pains me to give lower than a five star review, but I have been coming here for about a decade.. probably longer.. and I need to let you fine people know, and the business tbh, that the most recent(past year max) Wednesday kj is the absolute worst. The sound is beyond awful, (too loud!!!!) she is always at the bar and not in the kj booth, so i have no option but to text my songs in.. Ive seen her gets a little too sloppy with drinking on shift more than once or twice not to mention how rude she is when you do catch her at booth.. Somehow, even when its busy, sings more than I do and Im a paying customer?! Ive only really seen her working Wednesdays consistently, so after this last time, im finally done and wanted to warn yall as well! Trying to decided if its even worth finding another day in fears that she works more than just wednesdays.. do I need to find a new bar? Ive never had such consistent bad experiences at this bar, it was my favorite!
We had a friend that got sick from getting a little too lit and they made us leave which is understandable. My issue is that we had a couple people in our group that were not incapacitated that tried to go back in and pay our tab multiple times and they outright refused to let us pay. Very disappointing as we frequent this place often and have never had an experience like this. I get that yall get an auto gratuity from "walked" tabs, but outright refusing to let people pay their tabs reguardless of the situation is a horrible business practice. I am heavily considering disputing the charge.
Have been going here for years, recommend people all the time, have had private parties, and am a semi-regular for heavy karaoke nights. The atmosphere is always “meh”, KJs don’t seem to know how to queue songs in a way that either follows a logistical pattern or pays tribute to crowd management/entertainment value. Recently got kicked out for accidentally having my friend’s glass bottle not make it into the trash. Cleaned it with napkins by myself (OSHA hazard), and some barback acted like the world was ending while I tipped double my tab. Pathetic service, food is always mediocre, and atmosphere severely depends on more beloved bartenders. Overall, Austin has significantly better karaoke joints.
If you like to have fun and enjoy kareoke, dont go here. My friends and I came here, the bouncer said we were too drunk to come in when, we had just started the evening, maybe 1 drink in each. It was my first time in Austin and I was very disappointed. We were a group of 6 and not obnoxious but walked up laughing, giving the impression had been over served.
Never again. Rude, unfriendly and unprofessional staff (except Oscar). Terrible and tense atmosphere. The only good thing is the Karaoky..Never again
Really wanted to try Karaoke here for my birthday. Booked a room thinking more people were coming. Once I found out we weren’t gonna be that many people coming a tried calling to cancel but no answer. I finally got through and they told me without a 48 hour notice they have to charge for the entirety of the hours booked even though we weren’t gonna make it. We were actually planning on still going to karaoke here even without the room but that was too much money to take for nothing received. The worst part is no one disclosed the policy when I booked the room. Not the kind of disappointment you want on your birthday.
I’m incredibly sad because Common Interest used to be one of my favorite places in Austin. I’ve had some really special and memorable times here, but unfortunately, last night the bouncer Dre and door manager lady completely ruined any good experience at the bar. My friends and I rented a small room for my friends birthday from 10-12. We had so much fun and really loved our server, so big thank you to her for being so kind. At 12, when our time was up in the private room, we moved to the general area to have a couple more drinks before leaving. My designated driver arrived at 11:45, and at this point he had had no drinks that night because he knew he was driving and he had just come from work. I knew we were going to be there for a little while longer, so I ordered him ONE beer. He was halfway through the beer when we went outside to the front. While we were out there two grown women who were black out drunk proceeded to objectify and feel up my DD, which obviously was not ok and I told them as such. They were allowed back into the bar, and went straight over to have a laugh with the bar manager, so I’m assuming they must be friends. We went back in a few minutes after those women and the door manager Dre immediately stopped my DD and said that he couldn’t come in because he was too intoxicated. What? I tried to reason with this man but he was immediately incredibly rude and provoking. He told me and my friend that we were allowed back in even though, objectively, we were incredibly intoxicated! I was extremely angry as we had paid for a room and tipped accordingly and now we were being treated with such vitriol for seemingly no reason, so I went and found our server from the room to clarify that my DD had had no drinks in the room. As soon as I went to talk to the server, the door manager immediately came up extremely hostile and started an altercation with me. I know, I probably should’ve just left, but I had just bought a drink that I had not even taken two sips out of and my DD WAS SOBER so I wanted some answers. This door manager proceeds to tell me she has proof that my DD had 5 drinks on his tab which is really funny because he had no tab open at all. When I demanded to see the tab, she immediately pivoted and said my friends boyfriend bought him multiple drinks, which is also funny because that man only had 2 drinks on his tab because he had arrived only 20 minutes before this altercation. I demanded proof for that as well and then she pivoted to my DD being on drugs, which is also really funny because he is drug sober! What’s even more hilarious is, during the course of the night, I saw women passed out on the floor in the bathroom who were served alcohol even though they could barely stand or were incoherent and crying. So, Dre and door manager, I’d really like to know your bouncing process and I’m sure the TABC ethics department will too!
Went with a large group of friends, had 4 drinks before the girl with glasses 🤓 cut me off .. I was not even drunk at all and she offered me water.. one week prior she did the same thing to another friend.. just save yourself the trouble, go to a real bar not this bullshit
This used to be one of my favorite bars in town -- a place I genuinely enjoyed coming back to, and even brought family along to support. On my last visit, I came in with my mom and she spent a significant amount of money here. Instead of gratitude, what I got in return was one of the most insulting experiences I've ever had at a business. Without warning, I was told I wasn't allowed back for *three months* because they accused me of emailing waitresses and "harassing" them. Not only is this accusation completely false, but it was delivered in a way that was both humiliating and offensive. I have never in my life been accused of something like this, and to have it happen at a place I once recommended to friends makes it sting even more. A kariokie bar is supposed to be about atmosphere, community, and hospitality. Instead, I left feeling disrespected, judged, and unfairly treated. After years of loyalty, I can't imagine returning to a place that treats GOOD paying customers this way that came in with their mom to show them a good time the last time I was there and then only to get unfairly judged upon return. ---this is the worlds worst kariokie place, even more insulting after making me wait forever for them to find the proof they couldn't and they just decided to let the doorman make the call on whether or not I am the guy that harassed their waitresses. Do yourself a huge favor and never come here. Meanwhile, there's an army of people smoking a whole bunch of pot outside their door but that's A-OK because they're busy hassling some guy that they decided to mistake the identity of. And this isn't the first time I felt the prejudice nature of that bar of that doorman. I said I get that you don't like me and he said I don't even know you, but for some reason, he sure as heck is able to spot me a mile away and confuse me with whoever the heck he wants to tell lies about Or conflate with a sleezebag. Worst experience ever imo. I had a video of the whole thing too, but the file was too long because they made me wait forever to try to find proof that they never produced.
Went in to have a few drinks and sat down at a table. The person who I was with proceeded to go to the bar and purchase a few drinks. At the bar there were at least four people washing glasses but we never did find a bartender the whole time we were there. Everyone simply said that they weren't the bartender and kept doing what they were doing. Nobody ever even pointed out who was taking orders there.
This place use to be a great place but the new bar and door staff is a bit bullish. They have no signs for restricted items, aka backpack Coach bag, and they are just rude. Worth paying the money and heading to Highball or Egos. Just better vibes. The air here was better with the old staff. The new young and unexperienced door staff is not worth it. Hope this helps for people traveling and looking for a place with no drama. Update: machines in private room have limited songs and reboot during your session. Of course they did not compensate... wasn't expecting good service from main staff at this point. Google is saying that this is a 5 star and I posted a one star. If I could it would be no stars.
