I been looking at this place for a month saying " I want to go visit and check it out'. Well today me and my baby did just that . The atmosphere was so peaceful everyone doing their own thing . Customer service was so amazing , welcoming and making sure we was satisfied. We will most definitely will go back . Tami
Went here during the freeze with a friend, incredibly friendly service, great drinks. Will be sure to be back the next time I'm in Austin
Charming little coffee/wine bar which feels cozy despite being right on Congress. Owners are Greek, as the name suggests, and they offer several Greek pastries and dishes. We came for the namesake freddo cappuccino and were pleasantly surprised - it was close to what we had in Greece. They apparently have numerous DJ nights, open mics, art sharing and more - and very good happy hour / discounted drink prices. Highly recommend!
This place is amazing!! The austin history of the building is fascinating.. with comfy indoors seating.. and a nice outdoors sesting area perfect for dogs or just simply soaking up this amazing austin weather!! They have a wide open menu of coffee and other delightful beverages.. and the food is packed with amazing tastes that really captures the culture. The staff was very polite and helpful explaining to me what everything was and full of suggestions to help make my experience unimaginable!!! There's so much to choose from.. I'm already excited for me next visit... what shall I try next!! Well done folks... well done!! Thank yall!! (I got the ham torpita... it was phenomenal!!)
The food is amazing! Or let’s say everything here is amazing here in Freddo's! The coffee is high quality. I’ve been coming here since late 2022 and always try different things (pretty much everything on the menu by now) Great atmosphere and study/work place! It’s rare to see a café place with two-stories! This place used to be the Wells Fargo bank like 20 years ago lol and my dad was one of the managers here when it was a bank back in the 2000's!
Went for open mic night and it was an AMAZING experience. Harry is my king, he made great recommendations and had such kind energy. Incredible chocolate chip cookie, fries, and frose. I’ve been in the mornings and the coffee and croissant sandwich is to die for .
What! I always drive past this place saying I want to check it out. I finally did and its pretty slick! I came with my pup and they had a little "daycare" for him (see pics below) he did hate it so we checked out a few more spaces before settling on the upstairs sofa with a balcony. HAHA! oh... the coffee was yummy and the guy with the nice hair was sweet. Thank you Freddo! Cheers to finally trying out cool new spots! Be safe yall, its hot!
Walter Tavern is beautiful and amazing! Great and reasonable drinks and awesome vibes! Cary is the best ever!
An old Victorian porch adorned with local art, excellent coffee, AND affordable booze = Best cafe in Austin. Aside from going to UT games, this is the ideal place to watch on their massive 25 foot TV.
We stopped here for lunch and drinks while doing a party bus for a friends bach trip. Wish I could give them higher than a 5 star rating, they were EXCELLENT. The food, the service, the atmosphere. Very kind welcoming people, gave the bride a glass of champagne on the house. Two of us had espresso martinis that we both agreed was the best one we’ve ever had anywhere. It was made to perfection with the perfect ratio of espresso and creaminess. We liked everything so much we were planning on going back for dinner. But we got lost in the sauce bar hopping and never made it back :( Thank you guys for a wonderful experience!!!
I love this cafe! The staff is always so friendly and it feels like a cozy local spot. Excellent coffee and one of the best Caesar salads in Austin. I love that they preserved the history of the old house and left up some artifacts and information. I love bringing my dog here, too!
Adora at Freddos in Austin is a hidden gem that effortlessly blends top-tier coffee, creative drinks, and mouthwatering food in one perfect package. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make every visit feel like a warm hug, while their menu consistently delivers bold flavors and fresh ingredients. Whether you're in the mood for a perfectly brewed cup of coffee or a delectable bite, Adora hits the mark every time. Their unique take on classic dishes and beverages sets them apart from the typical café experience. If you’re in Austin, missing out on Adora would be a serious mistake!
Wow! The remodel is fantastic, pool table, horse-shoe bar, outdoor beer garden, and lots of TVs. Classier chalmers
An old Victorian house converted to the perfect rest, relax, date and/or socialize at this delightfully unique coffee bar. I really love this place and often enjoy the flatbread, coffee and sometimes the wine or mimosas. All of the food is delicious and the atmosphere is always pleasant.
I don't know if this is a hidden gem but I have been loving this coffee shop ever since my first visit. The ambience is scenic with outdoor picnic tables, misters, bistro lighting, and just "homey" overall. The coffee, especially my favorite, the Freddo caramelcinno is fantastic. Perhaps my favorite part of coming here is Harry, the bartender/barista. Harry is always so polite, hardworking, gives great recommendations, engages with each guests, and had even remembered my name by the second/third visit. He truly values his guests and relationships. Oh, and if you are a college student like me, its definitely worth visiting between 9-10 am for $2.99 coffee :)
I visited this cafe for the first time and had a wonderful experience. It's a charming two-story house that has been converted into a cafe, with lovely seating options in various rooms, the hallway, and the patio. We chose to sit inside, which was cozy and inviting, and we really loved the atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Instead of heading to an overpriced Starbucks, I highly encourage people to check out this place. I will definitely be returning to try food menu, we only tried coffee which was good.
Beautiful old house transformed into a great eatery. Stopped in for brunch and the service was extremely friendly and fast. The sandwiches and desserts were amazing. Such a neat spot!
One of my absolute favorite cafes and bars in Austin. Their food is great, the sandwiches are massive!! Yummy coffee and great bar menu. They have a ton of art and events every week! Check out Sunday Open Decks with DJ Angello!! Great for brunch or weekend vibes.
I have been coming to Freddo ATX for almost a year. It was my first bar I went to. I would sit upstairs on Sunday’s and drink $2.75 mimosas while job searching because I was new in town. I walk there from my apartment and it’s always a fantastic experience. I love the staff and the drinks are great. They just have beer and wine but they have a large menu. It’s perfect to sit outside and upstairs they have local art with games. I enjoy open mic night on Mondays. I know they have more nightly events as well. The owner is constantly making fun changes and every time I come I feel like there is something new! Either a menu item or the layout is different. It’s nice! 10/10! 🤍
The vibes here are infected with the cries souls of artists who were never seen nor heard. When you step beyond the gates and enter the quaint grounds you will be enveloped by pure passion of the artists’ to perform. On our night we could have food from the kitchen, have a tarot reading or grab some sea moss juice and reclaim the earth. Whatever you do just choose to be here, supper with your ears, applaud and participation. All are welcome and you will get another slice of Austin.
First time hearing to Freddo, and it was awesome. The sandwich was more than enough for two people to share, and the low price was incredible. The outdoor seating was beautiful in the sun. Parking was a little tough to find, considering its central location at a major crossroads, but I was able to grab a spot just in time. Highly recommend checking it out!
Fun place to either have a drink or enjoy a nice Italian coffee. It’s a great Greek inspired place with great bites (hummus was amazing , and cheese/meat boards are surprisingly good). Owner is usually in taking orders , serving beers, or making coffee. Greta attitude by the staff. House is super cool and lots of events almost daily. This place is a gem just south of the main SoCo area. Parking has been easy every time I’ve gone. Don’t sleep on the flatbread and their decent wine selection.
Nice upscale yet hole in the wall vibe. Excellent drinks and service. Didn't try the food. Great spot for watching the game.
This is a very cute, chill and super friendly place! The staff are beyond amazing, including the manager/owner. Inside is a relaxed vibe with LOTS of seating, upstairs and downstairs. There is also outdoor seating and cute swing seats! This is a very dog friendly place, they have treats and a small off leash dog area. Dogs are also allowed inside. I recently got a Margherita pizza ($18.50) and y'all it was SO DELICIOUS. The flavor was light and crispy. The pizza wasn't dry or too crunchy. So very good! I highly recommend this place! They are also a good work space as they have secure wifi. Parking is a bit limited, but they have a small lot.
What a neat place! Freddo ATX is definitely going to be a place I come back to regularly. I just loved the atmosphere, and even though it was pretty busy for the grand opening weekend, I still found a good quiet place in a corner to read. Price wise, I thought the price matched the quality just right. The food is probably a little more than I would spend normally when I go out to a cafe to read, but everything was so delicious and the portion sizes generous. I didn't have the flat bread, but I saw a number of groups with them, and they're definitely a perfect sharing size for 3-4 people. I highly recommend giving this place a try! Other relevant info: Wifi: there is wifi and I didn't notice it to be too slow for typical web browsing Parking: there is a small lot, but some of the spots are shared with the bank; it looked like there was a good amount of street parking near by. Update: Been back a few times now and I stand by my 5 stars. The staff is so nice and the flat breads are as delicious as they look!
Freddo is one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin. They have everything perfected. Great shaded outdoor patio with swinging chairs, a small dog park and plenty of indoor seating over 2 stories. Great happy hour prices as well. Freddo is located at the far end of south congress, so you can find street parking fairly easy.
I have been looking forward to the opening of Freddo ATX for a while. I live down the street, so now that it’s open, I was pleasantly surprised at how cute and cozy it is inside. I used to bank at this location many years ago, so to say that the interiors are much improved is an understatement:) This place will definitely be bumpin on warm days. I had a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. They also have a large selection of beer and wine and a menu of snacks and sandwiches. There area many places to sit and socialize or find a quiet well lit spot to get some Work done. I look forward to returning.
Tonight was my first time here. First of all, this is a beautiful structure except that it originally belonged to a confederate. The portions are huge, my wife ordered a panini, I wasn't hungry so I didn't order anything. The both of us together couldn't finish it. Tonight was a bit cold, but the outdoor seating is amazing. I'll definitely be back here.
Went for happy hour after shopping on South Congress. Super cool atmosphere in an old house with cute swings outside and tons of tree lights. The almond croissant was great and the frose during happy hour for $5.50 was actually pretty strong. Perfect spot to hang out with friends or study/read/telework!
This is a cute brunch, date night, spot. It’s really an amazing place to frequent with or without a purpose. It’s pet friendly there an upstairs full of amazing art available for purchase. Games (connect 4,cards, books, ect..) inside to enjoy. There are outdoor swings, misting fans, lights adorning the trees and friendly service. They do have food and drink options and parking is on the side.
This place is so cute for a nice breakfast or lunch. The outside area is cute, the building itself looks like an old historical building. My americano coffee was great, my wife got some caramel drink and the presentation was excellent. I had a slice of apple pie and even cold it was sooooo good. I had a little bacon platter that was super yummy. Great experience. They were setting up some kind of farmers market for people that are hard of hearing. Just a really cute little slice of Austin. I got a little scared I thought the people speaking in sign language might be doing gang signs but my wife told me not to be afraid.
The other reviews are spot on! Pros: A lot of seating space inside and out, decent parking space, amazing coffee and food and of course immaculate vibes! Cons: Only complaint would be the number of outlets for charging your laptops and phones - not enough. In addition, sometimes my large cup of coffee is not always filled to the top when I have ordered in the past. (more like a little bit past the middle type of situation) That said, shout out to Cassandra for her amazing service! Not only does she always fill my large cups of coffee to the top and for the small hot cups as well but she’s always very attentive and welcoming. All of which I truly appreciate! :)
Super cute spot with great ambiance located at an old, iconic house close to downtown. Plenty of nice places to sit, two floor building with sitting spaces on both as well as outside. They have a good variety of offerings ranging from coffee to wine and beer as well as baguettes, pizza and Antonellis cheese and charcuterie.
Such a unique atmosphere! Me and my bf happened to pop in simply because it was a cool looking mansion. After we walked in we were greeted with amazing customer service and probably the best happy hour deals in all of Austin! While the food was decent, we’ll be solely coming back for the drinks and vibes!
Fun, chill vibes. Portions were plentiful and delicious, and we had friendly service. There is seating inside, upstairs, and outside in a beautifully lit patio area. Happy Hour Frosé hit the spot on a hot summer day. The baklava was made fresh and it was absolutely scrumptious! Almost took some 'to-go' to eat with ice cream later 😋 We had the spanakopita, lasagna, frosé, lemon cannoli, and a Freddo caramellocino.
I love the architecture, old school Victorian Austin. We watched the Super Bowl here and it was perfect. I'm glad this place has been filled up with people again!
What a great patio! Beautiful to sit outside and have some drinks with friends. Had a gyro and fries. Gyro was good but the fries were not. Will definitely go back for drinks and the atmosphere.
Love all the updates that did to this place. Looks a lot cleaner, sharper, and just more maintained. Still great cold brew and outdoor patio that makes it really fun to work in the sun. Dogs are welcomed, which is awesome. Overall, great coffee shop to hang out at. Update: Internet speed is back to Blazing! Oh yeah. Thank you! Also, the music is always on point, somehow exactly what I need to hear.
Very cool find, we had some time to kill before an event and found them online. Great place. The tacos and salsa were amazing. Friendly bartender and manager, we'll be back.
I love this place so much. The building itself is historic and so charming. They have a range of events here and great happy hour specials. Bryan behind the bar is warm and makes you feel like family. 10/10 would recommend.
Great happy hour pricing and the food was tasty! We had the chicken gyro and it was filling and delicious. Plenty of space for whatever you want to do. Downstairs you might hear live music or trivia night but upstairs is quiet and perfect if you want something more low key.
Fun place for coffee, drinks, or a quick bite to eat! The happy hour was great! Half off specialty cocktails and gyros — a great deal. Freddo sandwich was extremely good. The old Victorian house is funky and cool, especially when there’s so many new builds in Austin. This place has old school charm and character. There’s a good size parking lot on site. Huge outdoor patio and comfy couch seating upstairs.
Freddo’s ATX is an absolute gem, all year round! Whether it’s a sunny afternoon or a starry night. Though, I absolutely love their lights at night; they transform the space and it honestly feels like magic. The atmosphere is relaxed yet lively, and the decor hits that perfect balance between modern and cozy. It’s a cute, inviting spot with plenty of space to hang—there’s indoor seating, a charming patio, and even an upstairs area if you’re looking for a quieter corner. In the colder months, the fireplace makes it extra cozy, and the staff are always kind, regularly adding wood to keep it warm and welcoming. There’s live music happening all the time, which adds so much character and makes every visit feel special. The house itself is historic, and you can feel that charm in every detail. The menu is just as impressive as the ambiance—fresh, creative options whether you’re craving a great coffee or something to eat. In a city full of great hangouts, Freddo’s ATX truly stands out as one of my favorite spots. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out—you won’t be disappointed!
Torn; I want to keep this place to myself, but it’s one of the last oldest Austin hidden gems left. They honestly make working from laptop something to look forward to & so much more enjoyable. The atmosphere is amazing: outdoor & indoor seating, no florescent lights, fans with misters to stay cool. Great breakfast & lunch selection with coffee & tea. Harry, the manager, is the best! Always comes around with waters for guests when it’s hotter outside. My go-to is the Sausage breakfast platter & the Dirty Chai iced 10/10☺️ ***Review update: They also have a great NA selection with the kombucha based Big Hats! Margarita Mocktail & the Nojito Mocktail Cheers! 🤠
Freddos is one of my favorite coffee shops to frequent! The staff is always so nice and provide great service. I take my pup with me (he’s super quiet and not distracting) and they’re always so welcoming. It has a nice atmosphere and is good spot to do some work/study. I love their caramelccino, bagels and avocado toast.
Freddo is a gorgeous Victorian home turned coffee shop. You can often see live music here and support art and small business with their many market opportunities. Food and drinks are absolutely delicious and they have great deals on both! You can explore upstairs and have a seat or check out their curated art gallery!! The outdoors is newly renovated with dog park, swings and plenty of shaded picnic tables. Family friendly and pet friendly establishment! Highly recommend a visit!!
I love this place truly. Genuinely. I love coming here to study or hang out. I have one qualm (and it's not actually a qualm). The overhead lighting in the rooms upstairs are fluorescent lights you might see at a hospital or grocery store. They are covered with fabric to soften the light, which is really helpful. But given it's an old Victorian home where the architecture and design is part of the charm, I wish the lights were changed to suit the design of the home more. I only say this because I have genuine beef with fluorescent lighting, but 0 beef with cutie houses. The four stars is only because there aren't many tea options, and sometimes the food feels too expensive for what is provided.
Did not see no WE lunch till noon on web. Our bad? Gyro plate good but no gyro sauce. Toasted thin pitas.. not the softer thicker ones on a gryo.. small menu.. really wanted a full regular gryo.. food good but just not what was wanted.. poor handicapped ♿️ acces. Counter guy super nice and working hard... cool old house and cool outside dining
First time in. Lots of people working on their laptops in quite corners of the house. You’re welcomed to the upstairs seating area as well. Only thing I didn’t care to much for was the music. Speakers were going in and out so that made it a little unpleasant. So many place to chill and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Cool historic house, great tea and coffee selection, delicious pastry. Did not care for the sandwiches with giant Focaccia style bread. One sandwich felt like enough for 4 people, because it was mostly bread. Double checked the menu and it didn’t mention the bread type, just made the mistake of thinking it was a panini style because of the first few pictures, which we would have strongly preferred.
here is what you need to know before coming to this location lots and lots of restrooms I mean lots and lots of restrooms let me repeat this restrooms with even a changing room for newborn pamper change if needed they have restrooms downstairs restrooms upstairs which is rather quite impressive so the way this place works they have limited parking so you're going to have to find parking on the street caddy corner to the Wells Fargo next door although they save you and probably park in the Wells Fargo parking lot after hours and not get towed but cannot guarantee that so you're going to be usually parking on the street and that's going to be 80% which you couldn't theory just park and what is the HEB parking lot that HEB moved out of after finishing their building across the street and carefully cross the street as well to get to this location that being said this was a venue posting a event that was attending so I was actually quite packed with lots of people networking inside and outside to get food cuz it would have been an extensive waiting periods I just got a drink found something interesting which was a cherry flavored karma drink that I've only seen once before but this one was different where you pop the lid from the top push down into the water bottle shake it up pop its contents even more and it creates a fresh gut healthy beverage which I thought was different customer service staff for doing the best to keep up with the people lining up so really wasn't a way to line them up really per se although they have done a great job maximizing every square inch of space inside and outside this place with plenty of tables sitting area Wi-Fi outlets and a relaxing environment overall outside as well with plenty of dying and area around the tree they have an upstairs area but no elevator so keep dynamite especially for handicap accessibility I would say this place is definitely not handicap accessible by any means you have very little room to navigate in and out of the restrooms in and on the first floor and definitely not up those stairs and the stairs are very narrow so keep that in mind this place has a very unique vibe where it wants to be sort of Irish and rustic but then Mediterranean and then like something else entirely it's got a unique combination of Italian foods Mediterranean foods a variety of alcoholic beverages wine beverages coffees and then let me express this a lot of coffee also I need restroom and all over the place they express their different specials on giro for lunch or a happy hour specials on various drinks especially between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. you can get a coffee special beverage and some of their signature milk taken customized into your coffee beverage what I saw down so I had a very large variety of croissants including some very tempting desserts such as a chocolate-filled croissant with even more chocolate on top and sugar and an almond croissant with the special sweet almond sauce inside as well with powdered sugar all day in addition to the mornings this is one of those menus that's open in the morning early and open late at night and they have no problem pasting their hours over all over the place of the restrooms and apparently have that I mention lots and lots of restrooms for men and women also they have areas on the second floor you can block off for special events and outside as well to come block off for special events like tonight plenty of tables outside to network this place is also been awarded in the past a perfect place to bring a date for a date night by some independent award I'm not too familiar with so bringing your date here is definitely a thing and there were definitely some couples here tonight also despite amount of people customer service is doing a great job during one gal to keep the place nice and clean and organized and tend to people's needs quickly get to drinks checked in and apparently they have a rewards program as well where you can just quickly register your phone number save up points and signature meatball sub
Service was fun (bar service). Didn't have food. Outdoor stage was great and I loved capturing the traffic at Oltorf and S. Congress while shooting video of the band. My first time there and I felt at home. Tres Austin. I'd add video but it's all up in YouTube.
Lovely Victorian Austin house and I love that they have the rooms upstairs and the patio. Went there on a Saturday, a bit early, so it was pretty mellow. Bar staff was fine, but I think it was maybe a busser (or who knows) who bent way over backwards with the service (I'm quite sure he did a lot of things that weren't in his job description, whoever he was). Really nice experience.
ordered a grilled cheese and the cheese was not even melted, and they refused to add carmelized onions…however, the pizza was AMAZING. I left bc they were playing loud punk rock and a normal radio station blaring commercials full blast , had to leave bc I couldn’t think straight due to it, I suggest playing Spotify and pick a better station
I really wanted to like this place. I would always pass by and thought it looked so cool from the outside. I went with some friends today for the first time. The interior is cute, but the floors felt dirty with food scraps and we had to clean our own tabletop which was still soiled from a previous customer. The menu looked great, but the gyro was really greasy and the fries tasted stale and looked old. The most frustrating thing was how loud the music was. We, and several other patrons, asked multiple times if they could lower it a little bit and we were told “the manager likes it loud.” To me it seems like a cool spot with a ton of potential, but is just poorly managed and operated.
Very nice looking building with nice architecture. Many places to sit in coffee shop. I was going to order their Baklava latte but it was $10 so I changed my order to a regular latte because that is outrageous. My latte had lavender syrup it was $5.50 not bad but did not have much flavor. The coffee didn’t taste that good almost watered down. Good place to study can be busy. Expected a bit more from this place.
My husband and I drove by last weekend and it caught my eye and I knew I wanted to check it out! There’s so many pros to this place! It’s a huge space, lots of outdoor seating and inside there’s seating on the first and second floor which was great! It’s truly a beautiful building! The drink and food menu was also awesome, sometimes I feel like coffee shops have limited options, but this place had a lot! The parking lot is kind of small, but we had no trouble finding street parking. Our biggest complaint, was the time it took for our food. We ordered the charcuterie board and the panini. Both were great, but took a long time about 55 mins…my husband was in line getting ready to ask for a refund when the food was ready. During the wait, he ended up buying another drink. As he waited on the first floor, he said customers were being told food orders were taking about 20 mins, which really wasn’t the case. To be fair, they were pretty busy, but I also don’t think it’s right to tell people it’ll be a 20 minute wait when it’s not. I’m also really pregnant and was really hungry so the wait kind of irritated me more than it usually would. I do plan on going back in a month or so to see if it’s changed. I don’t think one not so great visit is a reason to not give it another try.
The cafe is pretty from inside and outside. It makes one see true Austin. We ordered the chocolate croissant and it wasn't fresh. But all in all good time spent. They have boardgames as well and the lights outside are on beyond closing time which makes a nice place to sit & paint till late hours.
I used to like this place when it was Freddo ATX (although in my house we tend to call it Freddo's). It was much better 1.5 years ago. More victorian/library themed with good food. Things changed. New ownership/direction? Now it is like a sports atmosphere. The main staff member guy is nice though. I'm not sure what his role is.
I’ve been to Freddo three times now. The truth is, I keep wanting to like it and each time it comes up short for me. The staff are super friendly and accommodated when we wanted to watch the UT game. I found it kind of odd that my drip coffee came in a tall drinking glass rather than a mug. It was delicious tho. Ordered a breakfast taco which was pretty average. Lastly, a lunch order of popcorn chicken & fries took 30min to come out and when it finally did, it was only fries and tater tots - no chicken. The bar staff were nice and quick to comp the order and even offer me a drink. But I just really wish this place would get it together a bit more as I’d like to come back.
All these glowing reviews can’t be from people that have actually ordered drinks. Such a beautiful space and serve any espresso based drinks out of a gas station coffee machine?! It doesn’t feel like it has an identity. They going for too many things. I often think about and want to go there but I can’t deal with the low quality drinks.
I really wish they would hire someone to steer this place right (NOT by tearing it down or modernizing it.) The victorian home is beautiful and unique and they should lean into the victorian vibe with more 1800s-leaning decor & furniture, if this gave a true gothic queen anne maximalist oddity manor vibe (historical restoration, maintenance, and moodier lighting) this would be everyone’s top spot. Please match the music to the vibe, softer/calmer acoustic instrumentals would make it a dream to study inside… lastly hire real baristas with real equipment (the coffee is in NEED of help) & be pickier about your musicians -hiring folk, jazz/blues/swing/big band, baroque pop, cabaret, soul, instrumental ambient bands, & older americana sounds would suit the queen anne building more than taylor swift & wheatus covers. Make the food worth the high costs. LEAN into what you have, hire a knowledgeable person with a keen eye for aesthetic and history. Throw out the wayfair furniture & graffiti art gallery walls. Make it slightly spooky but not cheesy dammit. Anyone would agree. As of now no one is celebrating freddo’s like they could </3 I got so excited when I first saw it but for the reasons above I end up going to other shops… This advice is gold!!! Take it and make austin even more fun!!! I write this because I care about y’all doing well and so does everyone else!
The food and coffee are great but they decided to put a 50 foot tv outside along with 5 other big screens. It ruins the whole area, not just this restaurant but the actually the whole intersection. Do we really need more screens? Or 6 large screens in a very small patio. This was one of the coolest houses in all of Austin and all you can see now is giant screens.
I was pretty bemused. The house was a cool aspect, but the vibes and decor left much to be desired. The lavender cocktail was good, but the latte and the matcha we ordered were pretty bad. The energy overall was mundane. It was a Saturday and it was dead and the staff seemed pretty lackadaisical and unwelcoming.
Everything was great the food the staff very polite and professional. They had the Texas against A&M. And didn’t put any sound on for the game. It just kept the music. So we disappointed being a sports bar and not having a sound of a game that everybody is there to watch.
It’s too bad the food was so unimpressive. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and the space is cute and in a great location. This place could be so much more if they put some thought into the menu, actually tasted the food they were making, and made sure the water glasses didn’t smell like an old sponge. I guarantee if they brought in a real chef, came up with a few dishes that were memorable, they’d have a better following.
Beautiful building, beautiful outdoor ambiance. Staff were great. Food choice was horrible. I rather go across the street and eat at HEB.
This was one of my favorite coffee shops to work at. It was a cute vibe, Italian style coffee, homey. Now it is a sports bar???
I didn’t enjoy the service or my food. The owner of this restaurant, harry, cuts through H-E-B almost daily in his black mustang, speeds through the crosswalk inside the parking garage, and honks at cars around him aggressively. Harry, calm down. Locals know.
I was really hoping this place had leaned more into the "grandfather's library" vibe with warm tones, ambient lighting, calming jazz music... you get the picture. Instead it's loud clashing colors, "art" on the walls that disappoints rather than inspires (monopoly money glued to a canvas? Really?), and sport's advertising everywhere. Unfortunately, the food wasn't good either. :/ Sadly won't be returning. I had such high hopes for a cozy new study spot. What a let down.
For starters they don’t pay their entertainment properly. After they agree on prices they change their mind at the very last minute (or after the event.. which is not legal) and pay next to nothing. I honestly have nothing good to say about this place. Owners are incredibly sleazy and don’t care about anyone or anything but themselves. But regardless of all that.. who wants to pay 14-17 bucks for a mediocre cocktail?
Bartenders on Sunday night were terrible. The blonde with tattoos and the brunette with highlights need to learn how to give service or even a smile or a word. Did not speak a word to me the entire time I was here. Not a friendly vibe in here at all. I’ve been a long time Freddo/Walters Tavern patron and speak about this place everywhere I can. After tonight that will change which is sad. Staff thinking they are better than their customers is outlandish and to not even speak to your guest is even more absurd.
Poor service on the morning of Saturday. We went to have breakfast, we were confused about the whole change of the place so we asked about the food and the answer was "I'm getting there " in a very condescending tone. I have worked in the service industry, and in multiple industries I think they need to consider appreciation to clients. Food was fast but the place was empty and a little pricy for what we got.
This is by far the greediest establishment I’ve visited as of late. I came here a lot back in 2022-2023 and it’s changed so much. I paid $20 for two small coffees. Emphasis on the SMALL. Also, the bartender/barista people weren’t rude, but they were definitely not friendly, as I had experienced in previous years. They also blocked canvas, blackboard, and indeed??? Sounds like students are not their target demographic. Also, the whole dirtyish rundown aesthetic was cute when it was just a coffee shop on south congress, but now that there are 6 tvs outside and the coffees are $10 each, it kinda just screams like you’re too cheap to buy new chairs and a cleaning crew. There are plenty of other coffee shops with better, cheaper coffee and cleaner floors. Try Bennu.
I went for coffee with my husband, and when I asked the barista about the difference between two coffees, he was rude and dismissive. He wouldn’t answer my question and told me to ask the cashier instead. The cashier wasn’t very friendly either. I also asked for sugar substitutes, but they only had white and brown sugar, and her attitude made me doubt whether they truly didn’t have any or just didn’t want to look for them.
I honestly don’t understand this place. I ordered a bagel lox for $12 and what I got was just sad. A dry, chewy bagel, and then they give you cream cheese, onions, and capers in tiny plastic containers on the side. I’m supposed to assemble it myself? What makes it worse is that the photo on their menu shows a nice, put-together bagel. That’s just not what they serve you. It feels misleading. The cream cheese tasted awful, and honestly I didn’t even finish half of it. Also, those little containers didn’t have any labels or dates, I have no idea how long that stuff had been sitting there. That’s just weird and kind of gross. I don’t think I’ve seen food served this poorly in a really long time. The coffee was okay, I had a cappuccino, nothing special. The place seems popular because there’s plenty of seating and some drink deals, but this whole bagel situation was a total letdown. I left feeling like I literally just threw my money away.
