Opinions de Freddo ATX Austin
What a great patio! Beautiful to sit outside and have some drinks with friends. Had a gyro and fries. Gyro was good but the fries were not. Will definitely go back for drinks and the atmosphere.
Love all the updates that did to this place. Looks a lot cleaner, sharper, and just more maintained. Still great cold brew and outdoor patio that makes it really fun to work in the sun. Dogs are welcomed, which is awesome. Overall, great coffee shop to hang out at. Update: Internet speed is back to Blazing! Oh yeah. Thank you! Also, the music is always on point, somehow exactly what I need to hear.
Very cool find, we had some time to kill before an event and found them online. Great place. The tacos and salsa were amazing. Friendly bartender and manager, we'll be back.
I love this place so much. The building itself is historic and so charming. They have a range of events here and great happy hour specials. Bryan behind the bar is warm and makes you feel like family. 10/10 would recommend.
Great happy hour pricing and the food was tasty! We had the chicken gyro and it was filling and delicious. Plenty of space for whatever you want to do. Downstairs you might hear live music or trivia night but upstairs is quiet and perfect if you want something more low key.
Fun place for coffee, drinks, or a quick bite to eat! The happy hour was great! Half off specialty cocktails and gyros — a great deal. Freddo sandwich was extremely good. The old Victorian house is funky and cool, especially when there’s so many new builds in Austin. This place has old school charm and character. There’s a good size parking lot on site. Huge outdoor patio and comfy couch seating upstairs.
Freddo’s ATX is an absolute gem, all year round! Whether it’s a sunny afternoon or a starry night. Though, I absolutely love their lights at night; they transform the space and it honestly feels like magic. The atmosphere is relaxed yet lively, and the decor hits that perfect balance between modern and cozy. It’s a cute, inviting spot with plenty of space to hang—there’s indoor seating, a charming patio, and even an upstairs area if you’re looking for a quieter corner. In the colder months, the fireplace makes it extra cozy, and the staff are always kind, regularly adding wood to keep it warm and welcoming. There’s live music happening all the time, which adds so much character and makes every visit feel special. The house itself is historic, and you can feel that charm in every detail. The menu is just as impressive as the ambiance—fresh, creative options whether you’re craving a great coffee or something to eat. In a city full of great hangouts, Freddo’s ATX truly stands out as one of my favorite spots. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out—you won’t be disappointed!
Torn; I want to keep this place to myself, but it’s one of the last oldest Austin hidden gems left. They honestly make working from laptop something to look forward to & so much more enjoyable. The atmosphere is amazing: outdoor & indoor seating, no florescent lights, fans with misters to stay cool. Great breakfast & lunch selection with coffee & tea. Harry, the manager, is the best! Always comes around with waters for guests when it’s hotter outside. My go-to is the Sausage breakfast platter & the Dirty Chai iced 10/10☺️ ***Review update: They also have a great NA selection with the kombucha based Big Hats! Margarita Mocktail & the Nojito Mocktail Cheers! 🤠
Freddos is one of my favorite coffee shops to frequent! The staff is always so nice and provide great service. I take my pup with me (he’s super quiet and not distracting) and they’re always so welcoming. It has a nice atmosphere and is good spot to do some work/study. I love their caramelccino, bagels and avocado toast.
Freddo is a gorgeous Victorian home turned coffee shop. You can often see live music here and support art and small business with their many market opportunities. Food and drinks are absolutely delicious and they have great deals on both! You can explore upstairs and have a seat or check out their curated art gallery!! The outdoors is newly renovated with dog park, swings and plenty of shaded picnic tables. Family friendly and pet friendly establishment! Highly recommend a visit!!
Lovely Victorian Austin house and I love that they have the rooms upstairs and the patio. Went there on a Saturday, a bit early, so it was pretty mellow. Bar staff was fine, but I think it was maybe a busser (or who knows) who bent way over backwards with the service (I'm quite sure he did a lot of things that weren't in his job description, whoever he was). Really nice experience.
I used to like this place when it was Freddo ATX (although in my house we tend to call it Freddo's). It was much better 1.5 years ago. More victorian/library themed with good food. Things changed. New ownership/direction? Now it is like a sports atmosphere. The main staff member guy is nice though. I'm not sure what his role is.
I’ve been to Freddo three times now. The truth is, I keep wanting to like it and each time it comes up short for me. The staff are super friendly and accommodated when we wanted to watch the UT game. I found it kind of odd that my drip coffee came in a tall drinking glass rather than a mug. It was delicious tho. Ordered a breakfast taco which was pretty average. Lastly, a lunch order of popcorn chicken & fries took 30min to come out and when it finally did, it was only fries and tater tots - no chicken. The bar staff were nice and quick to comp the order and even offer me a drink. But I just really wish this place would get it together a bit more as I’d like to come back.
Everything was great the food the staff very polite and professional. They had the Texas against A&M. And didn’t put any sound on for the game. It just kept the music. So we disappointed being a sports bar and not having a sound of a game that everybody is there to watch.
It’s too bad the food was so unimpressive. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and the space is cute and in a great location. This place could be so much more if they put some thought into the menu, actually tasted the food they were making, and made sure the water glasses didn’t smell like an old sponge. I guarantee if they brought in a real chef, came up with a few dishes that were memorable, they’d have a better following.
Bartenders on Sunday night were terrible. The blonde with tattoos and the brunette with highlights need to learn how to give service or even a smile or a word. Did not speak a word to me the entire time I was here. Not a friendly vibe in here at all. I’ve been a long time Freddo/Walters Tavern patron and speak about this place everywhere I can. After tonight that will change which is sad. Staff thinking they are better than their customers is outlandish and to not even speak to your guest is even more absurd.
Poor service on the morning of Saturday. We went to have breakfast, we were confused about the whole change of the place so we asked about the food and the answer was "I'm getting there " in a very condescending tone. I have worked in the service industry, and in multiple industries I think they need to consider appreciation to clients. Food was fast but the place was empty and a little pricy for what we got.
This is by far the greediest establishment I’ve visited as of late. I came here a lot back in 2022-2023 and it’s changed so much. I paid $20 for two small coffees. Emphasis on the SMALL. Also, the bartender/barista people weren’t rude, but they were definitely not friendly, as I had experienced in previous years. They also blocked canvas, blackboard, and indeed??? Sounds like students are not their target demographic. Also, the whole dirtyish rundown aesthetic was cute when it was just a coffee shop on south congress, but now that there are 6 tvs outside and the coffees are $10 each, it kinda just screams like you’re too cheap to buy new chairs and a cleaning crew. There are plenty of other coffee shops with better, cheaper coffee and cleaner floors. Try Bennu.
I went for coffee with my husband, and when I asked the barista about the difference between two coffees, he was rude and dismissive. He wouldn’t answer my question and told me to ask the cashier instead. The cashier wasn’t very friendly either. I also asked for sugar substitutes, but they only had white and brown sugar, and her attitude made me doubt whether they truly didn’t have any or just didn’t want to look for them.
I honestly don’t understand this place. I ordered a bagel lox for $12 and what I got was just sad. A dry, chewy bagel, and then they give you cream cheese, onions, and capers in tiny plastic containers on the side. I’m supposed to assemble it myself? What makes it worse is that the photo on their menu shows a nice, put-together bagel. That’s just not what they serve you. It feels misleading. The cream cheese tasted awful, and honestly I didn’t even finish half of it. Also, those little containers didn’t have any labels or dates, I have no idea how long that stuff had been sitting there. That’s just weird and kind of gross. I don’t think I’ve seen food served this poorly in a really long time. The coffee was okay, I had a cappuccino, nothing special. The place seems popular because there’s plenty of seating and some drink deals, but this whole bagel situation was a total letdown. I left feeling like I literally just threw my money away.
