⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ x 5,000 First-time diner at Fresa’s and I’m officially obsessed. This South Austin gem delivers a culinary experience that feels both vibrant and indulgent; the kind of place where every bite makes you pause, smile, and savor. The Michelada? Out of this world. Bold, bright, perfectly balanced, the kind of drink that instantly sets the tone for an unforgettable meal. The tacos were decadent and layered with flavor, each one crafted like a little masterpiece. And the Mexican corn… truly the best I’ve ever had. Smoky, creamy, tangy, and absolutely addictive. The margarita was luscious and dangerously smooth, the perfect finale to an already stellar lineup. But what sealed the experience was the energy of the place. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely joyful. And the bartender? Coolest, kindest, most fun person behind a bar; the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like a regular on your very first visit. Already planning my return.
This place exceeded my expectations. I feel bad for never have been here before. Especially living down the street. Sat at the bar, Daisy and Ozzy took care of us and service was great. Food was hot and tasty, prickly pear margaritas were amazing. For having so many Tex-Mex options in this city, the food is affordable and worth it. Will be back to sit at their huge patio.
Savion is the best server on this side of town lake! Couldn't have been happier with the atmosphere and the lighting is perfect for a romantic date. Sit outside!
Really nice place for a friends or family dinner. Plenty of outdoor seating with cooling mist fans. Service was excellent. Bit pricey for the quantities, but food was really really good. We tried the Yucatan Spice chicken, Super Bol, the Shrimp plate and the Mari tacos. Oh the loaded queso is a must try. Definitely recommended.
Always had consistently good food and service over the last few years. The place gets packed on weekends, so having a reservation helps. Their outdoor patio seating is huge and is beautiful in the evening with all the string lights We got our usual achiote spiced chicken, quesadilla and steak. Our favorite is the achiote spice chicken, always has nice kick to it and the jalapeño sauce that comes with it is great.
Dog friendly, ADA wheelchair compliant and out door fans or heaters are always on. Friendly staff and good food. They make a great paloma. End with a fresh cooked churro. Only problem is a single handicap parking chair. Having a wheelchair chair makes it hard getting into a reg parking space.
Good atmosphere! Great food! Perfect for lunch! The service is very nice here. Greg was our server. He was friendly and very welcoming. Service was pretty fast, considering the lunch crowd. Our food was very good....hot, fresh & very flavorful! There's plenty of shaded area outside. Nice place for kids. Pets allowed. Parking is okay. Narrow parking spots, so be mindful. Would recommend taking a compact car, or even an uber. Can't wait to go back!
Absolutely, hands down, the best Mexican food I've ever had. I will come back to Austin just to eat the exact same thing I got there already.
Love it . . Fresa’s on South First isn’t just a carbon copy of the original drive-thru on North Lamar - this one has much more room, a big patio, and an expanded menu (including more entrees and margaritas). In other words: you can now have that amazing chicken (and queso, tacos, churros, and ice cream), while also having a real restaurant experience. But don’t worry, if your favorite place to eat Fresa’s will always be your couch, there’s a dedicated takeout window and parking for that, too.
Their margaritas are awesome!! They are small, but great. Bartenders inside are fantastic - staff otherwise is also great. I love this spot inside or outside for a couple drinks and some easy snacks/food
On one hand, the “large” queso that’s barely a cup for $11 is kinda bonkers, plus in a to-go order got about half as many chips as you need to get through the whole queso. On the other hand, it’s so good that if it was any cheaper they wouldn’t be able to keep up with demand. The achiote and Yucatán chicken is last meal kind of stuff
I can’t say enough about this chain of restaurants. We have only frequented the Lamar drive thru. Today, though, we went to the South 1st location. Fresas, you’ve outdone yourself, once again! From the gracious hostess, Sara, to our lovely server, Hailey, to Abby, the most magnetic and magical manager, our experience was simply perfect. My mother ordered the Aji Shrimp with charro beans, and onions. SUBLIME! I had the Kale Caesar. It is the best I’ve ever had. I was happily surprised that it contained pickled cauliflower. These chefs have created meals that are delicious, healthy, unique, and perfectly seasoned. The El Rey and Brussels sprouts are my all-time favorites. Cheers to the most de-e-licious and surprising Mexican food in Austin!
Fresa’s is a great place to eat at!! I love the food selection here, and how good the dishes normally taste. Normally we use Favor to get everything delivered, but have also eaten here in person on several occasions. Best foods I recommend the most are the Mexican Street Corn, Brussels Sprouts, Beets, Queso & Guacamole selection, Tortilla Soup, Sweet Potato Fries, and Flautas!! The chicken selection is pretty good, but a little better in person fresh off the grill. It’s great they have so many veggies that taste amazing. For instance the beets are really good!! That alone is hard to perfect. My absolute favorite is the Mexican Street Corn. What’s also cool is the 15% off if you are a teacher. My wife works for the school district so we use her ID often when getting the food ToGo. However they usually have some pretty good specials with Favor to get everything delivered. Most of the time we use the Favor app for convince and sometimes they are doing just $1 deliveries. In close if you are craving a unique spin on Mexican food this is a great place to go! If you have friends who are from out of town or just trying to be healthy Fresa’s can accomplish both. Or do what we do, be lazy, and order them delivered!!!
Fresa’s has the best tacos I’ve ever had in my 45 years on this spinning ball. They have 3 locations in Austin and this one is my favorite. Some seating inside and a rad outdoor patio situation. Do yourself a favor and start with 2 El Santo, 2 La Mari, and 2 Watermelon Aguas Fresca. Absolute perfection, HIGHLY recommend 💪🏼
Not your typical Austin Mexican restaurant experience and food, in the best way possible! Massive patio, and plenty of seating in the well-decorated indoor space as well. The food here is phenomenal. Brussels sprouts are an absolute must! Chicken, sweet potatoes and cauliflower were also amazing. Even the sides of rice and beans were delicious. To drink we had a prickly pear margarita which was very sweet and a bit tangy. Not my favorite margarita in the city, but still really good. Overall, love Fresas and I’ll be going back again soon.
Fresa’s had a really flexible, affordable group dining / event packages that made our rehearsal dinner / welcome party combo a huge success! We were able to host a rehearsal dinner from 5:30-8pm for 100 people and have it flow directly into a welcome party for all 180 guests from 8pm-10pm. Having both events at one location made it really low stress. Their bar package for the whole night helped us stay on budget while providing an “open bar” to all guests all night. They were really great at working with us and our planner to achieve the look we wanted, use the plates we liked, re-arrange the tables, and help come up with a rain plan (we did full buyout so we could have access to the indoor restaurant / covered balcony seating in the event of poor weather). We lucked out with amazing weather and it was overall a perfect evening under their string lights and patio. Note: the city of austin live music permit ended up being more expensive than we anticipated. It may be worth skipping the live music and just doing speeches with a microphone and playing music over their sound system which would not require a music sound permit. The food tasted really great and they were able to serve things family style so we could do speeches during dinner without guests getting up for food. Service was awesome. They even accommodated vegan and gluten free options. Thanks so much Fresas team!
We went to Fresa’s on a Friday evening as a going away party for a coworker. We thankfully made a reservation in advance since we were a large party. Would highly recommend making a reservation as the wait times were very long without one. Our waiter was very tentative to our table despite how busy he was. The food also came out relatively quick given how busy the restaurant was. The food was very good and we enjoyed everything we ordered! I got there different tacos and they were all very good. My coworkers also really liked the avocado margarita. The only thing I will say is the portions felt a bit small for the price you are paying. Overall, I would highly recommend going here at least once!
We had not been to Fresa's for over a year and decided to stop in for their happy hour and bring our doggie out with us. They have a pet friendly patio. The food is consistently good. The service was decent but the water bowl for our pet was never brought out as requested. I believe the Jalapeño float (+$1) was not added to my frozen Prickly Pear Margarita because it was too sweet and not bitter or spicy at all. We started our meal with chips and salsas ($4 Fire-roasted red salsa, and $5 spicy jalapeño salsa). To my surprise the spicy jalapeño salsa was not refillable. For $5 a pop, I would assume that it would be (?)...Regardless, both salsas were amazing. I had the shrimp taco and a half-kale salad. Both were fantastic. The shrimp were plump and juicy. The kale salad was chewy and blended well with the cotija cheese topping. We shared an order of the Mari Mexican Street Corn. I believe this is my favorite one in Austin. It was nicely grilled and the tajin/cotija cheese toppings were a great combination. My friend had the "Power Bol" and really enjoyed it as a healthy alternative to what he typically eats. Another note on service: it was friendly but not attentive. We were not checked on, nor was the table cleared, even after we left. Little steps matter. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality of food is solid.
Delicious food, great atmosphere. Sat outside. Dined with our kids, everyone was happy with their meal. We got a whole chicken #1, rice, beans, tortillas, and the grilled beets. Yum. Kids had El Niño taco and pío pío taco, plus guacamole, chips and salsa. Happy tummies all around. I wish we had this place in San Diego!
The manager: Kathleen; really understands and applies the ABC of customer service. She not only gave to my family and I a white glove service but went beyond her role and expectations to deliver an incredible experience at Fresa's. The food is good but the manager's care and attention for the customers is even more noticeable. For A/C indoor seating, make sure to have a reservation. I plan to visit this place again, and also would like say to Austin visitors that to miss this place is a sin.
food was delicious especially their queso blanco!! chicken quesadilla was pretty standard fare nothing too special. brisket / shrimp tacos stuffed well although a tad expensive per taco. the other true standout was the elote! garnished perfectly with tajin & cotija cheese! breezy patio with a nice ambiance overall. parking can be tight. will return!
Possibly the best restaurant I've found since moving to Austin. Relaxing atmosphere and of course the chicken is absolutely a must to order, whether on a salad or as a platter. Happy hour prices for apps and drinks will make you smile. Excellent service from someone who cares was also appreciated. Get there at the start of happy hour or make a reservation to get a seat as it fills quickly. Limited parking so you may have to street park.
All their food is quite tasty, but the portions are not large, though also not too small. We ordered 1 whole chicken and 1 half chicken, which comes with beans, rice, and tortillas. With two sides and guac, it was a good amount for the 5 of us. The chicken was meaty and not dry, though not necessarily juicy, since it’s a lot of white meat. The cauliflower and brussel sprout sides were nice to have along with the chicken, but it was perhaps the serving size for 2 people. We tried the green apple guac and it was fun since it added a citrus flavor to regular guac. Sitting outside on a beautiful day was great except that every few minutes there was nature falling into the food, so perhaps some cover would be nice for the outdoors. I’d be back, and perhaps try one of the bowls next time.
We came into town looking to enjoy South Austin and Fresa’s could not disappoint!! FOOD - Great! Checked all my boxes. SERVICE - Amazing! ATMOSPHERE - very special! We loved all the trees and fans that created the perfect outdoor dining experience.
lunch here was great, the food was delicious. we split the chicken and it was enough for a midday snack but I regret not trying the queso I heard so much about. will be back.
Booked a table in advance and were sat upon arrival. Parking lot is small so we parked on a side street and walked. We veganized the Power Bowl, La Fresa taco, and El Santo taco by subbing cauliflower and brussel sprouts. Margs were a bit too sweet but can’t complain for the price. Lovely patio perfect for social distanced dining!
Delicious food, great atmosphere, and the waitress Juanita is so funny and delightful! My friend Donnell started singing "We Will Rock You" by Queen to Juanita and the whole restaurant joined in! It was so much fun. Please stop by and ask Juanita about the "Chorizo con Huevos" special. She will show you!
Such a wonderful atmosphere! Delicious food and especially great service from one of the servers Noah. Even went the extra mile and took some great pictures of my mom and I! Highly recommend this place.
Refreshed for 2025! The patio alone is enough to come back to. This is a must do stop for us while in Austin. Food has always been very tasty. All the tacos were excellent, the pozole was rich and flavorful, grilled cauliflower delicious, skirt steak super flavorful. Guac great. Churros excellent. No complaints here on food or service so def five stars from this guy.
Tasty dinner and drinks! Spacious outdoor area and indoor seating as well. Between three of us we shared the loaded queen, empanadas, and roasted cauliflower. For drinks we had the classic and spicy margs and the hibiscus mule (the mule being the group favorite, even amongst margarita lovers).
Fresas is hands down one of my favorite spots in South Austin! The food is always, ALWAYS delicious—my go-to is the chimichurri skirt steak with a side of Mexican street corn. Absolute perfection every time! The outdoor seating is incredibly relaxing, with large, beautiful trees providing shade and twinkling lights adding to the ambiance. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just grabbing a fantastic meal with friends, family, or your other half, Fresas never disappoints. Highly recommend!
Gorgeous indoor & outdoor space. Food is fantastic and a slightly unique take on Tex Mex - it has all the standard favorites, but the addition of charcoal grilled chicken is delightful. Their queso is my favorite!
We love this place. The sides are great! The brussel sprouts are amazing and the street corn is excellent. Both are must orders. We also like the sweet potatoes and my wife liked the beets. The tacos are our go to entrees and they're all good. On my last trip, I ordered the Aji tuna tostada which I thought was OK. It just didn’t taste great enough to justify $14. The queso was decent. The margaritas are great too, although the glasses are tiny so you're done with your drink fairly quickly. I wish the glasses were bigger or they weren't so expensive. The spicy jalapeño is my favorite The service is ok as they’re a little slow, but I totally understand being understaffed. Parking was also a challenge as we typically have to park a couple of blocks away. We’ve catered from here a few times also and recommend this place to other friends.
We catered from Fresa’s on 1st Street for our son’s 1st birthday, and everything was incredible! We ordered the taco bar with Agave Lime Chicken, Brisket, and added Shrimp, along with Mexican Street Corn, Flautas, a gallon of Limon, and the Margarita Mix. Every guest loved the food — the flautas disappeared almost instantly, and the limon drink was a huge hit. Pickup was quick and easy, and Fresa’s truly thought of everything — from plates and tongs to the salt for the margarita rims. We were so impressed by how seamless the whole process was. Huge thanks to the Fresa’s team for helping make our celebration stress-free and delicious!
If you’re in Austin and haven’t stopped by Fresas yet, you’re seriously missing out. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ended up having one of those unexpectedly perfect dining experiences. First off — Daisy behind the bar is an absolute star. Her service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling over the top. You can tell she really knows her craft. She made me her killer margarita, and wow… easily one of the best I’ve had in Austin. Perfectly balanced, super fresh, and dangerously easy to keep sipping. The food absolutely held its own too. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It’s the kind of place where the vibe, the drinks, and the food all hit at the same time — which is harder to find than it should be. Between Daisy’s top-tier bartending and the consistently great kitchen, Fresas has officially earned a spot on my must-return list. Already looking forward to my next visit.
We eat here often. Love the food, service, and atmosphere. The reason for this post is to pump up Xavion, he was our sever at a party of 6 and he was attentive, funny, and awesome. He deserves a gold star. Nailed it. Such great service we were very happy. Thanks Fresa’s and Xavion. We will be back!!!
First time here and not the last! Visiting from Dallas and we had the most amazing waiter, Robert! The food was amazing, the drinks were amazing and the atmosphere was amazing. Robert was very attentive and recommended everything we ordered and it was all so delicious. First time trying the Avocado Margarita and it was so good. Can’t wait to be back!
Parking wasn’t difficult. The lot had plenty of spots. The patio has misters. They have little fans for flies if you ask. Tacos and sweet potatoes were great. The most memorable thing was that our server was the absolute best. She was so genuinely kind and attentive. There are plenty of restaurants with “good enough” service, but she was better than most. I don’t remember her name, but we sat on the patio for lunch on Friday.
Wonderful experience. I came here with a large group (more than 10) during lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. The staff greeted and seemed us warmly and promptly. There were zero complaints about any of the food and many folks took something to go. The agua frescas are Al delicious and worth a try. My only complaint is parking: while the lot is large, folks tend to park really closely and/or exit the lot intended to go left on a busy street which slows down traffic. 10/10. 100% recommend.
We walked up and got a table for lunch although we didn’t have a reservation and were headed to the bar. Our waitress (wish I could remember her name. It’s been a couple of weeks) was so knowledgeable about the menu. The tacos were so tasty and it was a quiet and clean atmosphere. Can’t wait to go again when we return to Austin.
Update! Still incredible almost a year later. Really tasty and filling. Food came out super quick. Incredible meal. Loved the atmosphere. Service was fantastic. The food was so tasty and fresh. Lots of veggie options for your vegetarian friends. Highly recommend and I can’t wait to be back. The cocktails is looked amazing.
The restaurant includes an extensive menu of flavors that are not common in the northern part of Mexico, the main seasoning being Achiote. We’re really enjoyed the bowls that are served generously as a variety of ingredients, each other distinctive flavor, that when you combine them, they melt in your mouth and create a new flavor bite very time. the restaurant is located in a wonderfully shaded backyard. That includes amazing trees. They seem prepared for hot weather, since every angle is covered with fans that will keep you cool in the warmer time. The restaurant inside is delicately decorated with Mexican style details. The service was diligent and friendly. The fact that it’s pet friendly makes it very entertaining and you can enjoy the view of the different kinds of dogs that visit.

Good quality food Nice outdoor patio with lots of seating
The Mexican street corn was the best dish of the day! While everything was tasty, this is not authentic flavors of Mexican food as Fresa’s definitely has its own twist. The Achiote Citrus Chicken while good, did not seem like it had been marinated for three days like it had been reported. The half chicken was more than enough along with the corn and flautas for two people.
First time eating at Fresa’s! We ordered the Classic Guac, Chimichurri Skirt Steak with black beans and Mexican rice, and the Kale Caesar. The food was good, but the portions are small for the price. We did try two of the desserts - the churro split was only okay and the chocolate avocado ice cream was good but I’d honestly skip dessert here and get something else in the area. Our server was nice, but overall service was very slow for a non-busy time of day.
Rate and review Fresa's - South First, 1703 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704 Christina Chen Posting publicly. The atmosphere was fun, there's a large outdoor area. All the food was fresh and delicious. The frozen margaritas were boozy. Definitely get the loaded queso. The ice cream and cookies are homemade!
The food was very good and the atmosphere is incredible on the patio. I was a little disappointed that the onions served on my plate were the skin of the onion and inedible. The payment system is also disappointing as the waitress must hover over you while you select a tip amount due to the handheld machine they use. Kind of awkward.
I came here for brunch with a big group. The food was delicious, but the portions were small. I ordered the huevos rancheros verdes - two sunny side up eggs over a crispy tostada with a little bit of black bean puree, three avocado slices, and a pool of salsa verde, topped with a spoonful of pico de gallo and sprinkled with queso fresco and cilantro leaves. It may sound like a lot, but I was still hungry after finishing my plate. I usually eat sunny side up eggs with bread, so I asked for some, but I was disappointed when they told me that they had no bread in the kitchen; this might be the first brunch restaurant I encounter that doesn’t serve bread. I loved the decor and ambiance indoors. I especially appreciated the colorful traditional Mexican textile art. They have an outdoor patio which looks like it would be amazing for the warmer months.
Some of the freshest, most delicious Mexican food in town with possibly the worst service. You can never get the hosts/hostesses' attention to refill water or order your meal. I've been several times and the service is always terrible, whether they're busy or not. But man, if their smoked meats aren't some of the best... It's such a conflicting thing!
Great Mexican fare with fresh ingredients and a lovely patio nestled into the trees. We LOVED the grilled beets and the hibiscus tea, but weren’t thrilled with the tacos or ceviche which wasn’t prepared traditionally (letting it sit overnight in citrus) and only served with two tortilla chips, literally. I’d come back but hope they’ll improve a few items.
Food was good and very trendy with good flavor combinations! Queso was phenomenal. Service was kind of on the slow side- it took at least ten minutes to receive each round of drinks between time ordered to time they arrived to the table and there were only 4 of us in our party. Overall it was a decent experience, but not sure I would come back time & time again.
Definitely a great place to catch up with friends and/or family, or even have a date night but I do have some tips. Call ahead of time and reserve an indoor table during the daytime/summer, we were nonstop harassed by crows and flies constantly near or on our food on the outdoor patio but that is not the restaurant’s fault whatsoever. Also don’t come on an empty stomach, their portions are more of a quick bite and definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant portions/prices. We shared a 10oz Chimichurri Skirt Steak for $38 and we were definitely still hungry/craving more after we left, the steak was perfectly tender and flavorful. The orange hot sauce on the side is so tasty and tangy too. Don’t skip on the queso either and my favorite margarita was the Cucumber Cilantro.
Fresa’s offers really good food with a nice ambiance. I normally order to go but stop by to eat on the patio when the weather is nice. Unfortunately when I eat at the restaurant, the food comes out either burnt, cold, or with little flavor. The restaurant isnt always so busy where I could excuse the inconvenience, but I normally have a good experience when order out. Four stars for location, atmosphere, and food - when it comes out right.
Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. The only hiccup was the closing time. The hours posted say 8am–10pm, but we were told the kitchen and bar close at 9pm. It felt a bit awkward having staff clean around us, and keeping the bar open would’ve made for a better ending to the visit..
Great family style Mexican food. I definitely recommend the avocado margarita, brussels, and sweet potatos to pair with the chicken. It does get packed and the parking is terrible. There used to be a free lot next door but of course the QR codes went up and is now a paid lot. When it is busy sometimes the services suffers so if you have somewhere to be make sure to catch you server when you can.
I went with couple of family members and it was a great dinner. I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Service is good too. I wish there are more tap beer varieties, but other alcoholic drink choices are good. Having the option of being seated inside or outside is good. Food is awesome, I liked the chips and spicy green salsa.
Our group of ten chose to sit outside. The service was excellent, and the drinks (especially the spicy margarita) were fantastic. The food was quite oily, as if it had just come off the grill. Both the spicy and non-spicy chicken were very tender and packed with flavor. The spicy one had a strong, delightful heat. The grilled shrimp stole the show with its smoky, charred taste that made it impossible to stop eating.
Food was delicious and staff was very friendly but may have been a little overwhelmed. The two tacos and street corn I got were delicious, as well as the house margaritas. We ordered a churo at the end of our meal and got our check before it came out. Waited about 15-20 minutes for it and nothing was said about the wait which was a bit annoying. Overall, good outdoor seating with friendly staff and great food
Had a fantastic time at the restaurant with a group of four adults and a toddler. The kid-friendly atmosphere and the option to bring pets, which we'll definitely do next time, made it even more enjoyable. We tried the Yucatán spice chicken, Grilled Sweet Potatoes, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, and the seasonal special mango habanero wings – all absolutely on point. My personal favorite was the wings – perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice. Our visiting guests loved the food too. We enjoyed their margaritas, although I wish they weren't as watered down. Despite that, the overall experience was still delightful. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but luck was on our side, and we managed to snag a spot right upfront. Overall, a great experience that we’re eager to repeat!

Was once worth the money, but now the portions are shrinking--even in the whole chicken meal?!?!--and you spend a hundred bucks on takeout and you still get no salsa! An employee told me her manager …
We had the Chicken dinner and it was delicious. The sides were also very good. We went to the new location and the restaurant is very nice.

We had a good night out there, the starters were great- loved the nachos with cheese! Main was ok, but churros to die for! Really friendly and helpful staff.
No wait to be seated we got there around 6:15pm on a Wednesday. Everyone’s food came out cold. My son’s chicken wings were ice cold. They did remake them. Not sure if they were precooked and then refrigerated to reheat. Everyone else’s food was room temp. We were too hungry to have them sent back. We also typically never complain we just don’t go back after a bad experience.
My friends and I really enjoyed the food here—everything we ordered was delicious and well-prepared (not the queso it was cold and chunky 😭) However, I did want to share a bit about our service experience. When we were first seated, we asked to sit inside and the hosts were nice and found us a spot, but it seemed like there was a party going on and it was very loud, with people yelling over each other. We kindly asked to be moved outside, and this was before anything had been served—just our menus and water—so we relocated early in the experience. From that point on, our waitress seemed super irritated. Once we sat outside, we were still looking at our menus when she stood over us and repeatedly asked, “What do you want to drink? What do you want? What do you want?” It felt a bit rushed, and we hadn’t had a chance to fully review the menu yet. She came back shortly after to take our order, again with a sense of urgency. Later, while we were still eating, literally mid-bite—she asked if we would be paying together or separately. It was around 8:45 p.m., and the restaurant closes at 10, so we were surprised to feel rushed out. We ended up paying and didn’t get a chance to even look at the dessert menu or order any drinks, which we had planned to do. We still tipped and were polite throughout because maybe she was just having an off day, but the service did leave us feeling like we weren’t welcome to linger. That’s really our only gripe, because again, the food was good (save for the cold queso…). If the service matched the quality of the kitchen, it would’ve been a perfect night. Just something to consider if you’re hoping to get the full experience here.
I love Fresas food and drinks. I’ve never been impressed with the service, especially the hosts. They don’t even make eye contact when they speak to you. They seem very uninterested and unapologetic when there is a long wait. May just do pick up moving forward.
We came here for lunch and sat outside which was nice. The food was unfortunately average. Between the three of us, we shared the queso with the chips (good), the chicken flautas (bit dry), mexican street corn (corn itself was good but too salty), the half achiote and citrus chicken (the chicken was dry and came luke warm) and the chimichurri skirt steak (good flavour).
Food was good but the environment was gross. In the women's restroom, 1 of the 2 stalls was out of order and 1 of the 2 sinks was out of order. Paint is falling off the walls in the to-go area...if this place can't keep up with general health code (paint peeling), it makes me question what's going on in the kitchen.
We dined outside on patio which had a great ambiance. Tucked away off the street so no road noise which is nice. The service was very slow, inconsistent, but friendly. I sense this place is very understaffed for the amount of people that show. You have to pay for chips...not a true Mexican spot if you need to...and pay for each additional salsa. The queso dip had great flavor but had the same viscosity as milk. Tacos are $6 each and promptly fall apart. Tons of toppings but add no actual flavor to the taco, over flowing with bland ingredients, the best part being the salsa verde creme on the side. I feel as if it may have been an off night but plenty of detailed reviews on here show a similar experience with service. Maybe we'd just get the whole chicken and a couple of beers next time.....unsure since we had high expectations from word of mouth and it wasn't really great. Not a taco joint. Get something else.
I love this place and have been eating there since they opened. The last time was unfortunate. I'm in a group that meets every Monday at 5:30 for dinner and margaritas. We eat at several Mexican rest…
We love the food at fresa's but the service is getting increasingly worse. The last 3 times we've come in, the server initially comes by, disappears for 15-20 minutes, you have to flag them down …
expensive! Holy cow. I was not expecting a couple of margaritas, nachos, and one entree shared to be over $100. Fresa's has good fresh food but it's nothing out of the world or to write home about.…
I ordered a crab tostada, which took precisely 44 minutes to reach my table. The food was fresh but ($15.00) comparable to a fast food restaurant. I wasn’t sure whether to order a horchata drink or coffee, and the waitress suggested getting “coffee/horchata.” It was undrinkable; I requested Splenda (to make it more flavorful) from my waitress twice, and she would acknowledge me with a “what’s up” and not bring the sweetener. I also tried asking two other people for Splenda, and finally, a busboy brought me a couple of packages. The waitress did not ask me once if everything was okay with the food or service, but they expected you to tip them 18% to 22% (in the terminal). We need to stop enabling the bad service culture.
I’m sad to give such a low review. We came here because reviews were really good and they had a high vegan review on Happy Cow. We received the brunch menu with only 1 vegan offering. There were 5 options total. Our waiter was friendly and asked if we wanted any appetizers. We asked what the appetizers were because there were none on the brunch menu. They offered chips and salsa or queso. We ended up getting chips and guac which we later realized cost $11. We had a basket of broken chips and the tiniest portion of guac. I asked about vegan options and they brought out a breakfast menu that said it’s “Served Daily, 8am-11am”. Not sure why we weren’t offered this menu in the first place. I was able to order 2 different vegan tacos. My husband enjoyed his tacos but said the migas were soggy. No vegan dessert even though people online said the churros were vegan. Service was slow. We had a 10am reservation and left at 11:20. We came here instead of another brunch spot nearby because of all the options they said they offered online, through reviews, and their social media. Again, I’m sad to give such a low review but this was the worst brunch we’ve had in the city. 2 stars for atmosphere and our waiters efforts.
Food tastes great, but portion sizes have been decreasing as prices steadily increase. It's now no longer a viable option. A "family meal" for 4 doesn't feed a pair of toddlers for $26. Head to El Po…

Horrible horrible service! We sat for at least 20 minutes and no one cane to wait on us... we asked the hostess for a waiter... still no service.. then she came to the table and said they were work…

Just awful- margs were syrupy and didn’t taste like margaritas. The beans were dry and rice was flavorless. Chicken tacos were abundant but the chicken was dry. Chimichurri steak was good but that’s about it. Server was just not happy to be there so that didn’t help improve our experience. We came here last year and the experience was 150% better. Go to a taco stand - you’ll be way happier!
Fresas is nothing When they started, they sold better chicken and better service, but like everything else, now the chicken is ugly, too small, and not to mention the onions and sweet potatoes, all burnt. It's a shame to tell you that everything is very ugly. They need new chefs( segun) and better service. Their place is not worth it
We went for dinner on the 11th. Ordered a bunch of dishes. It was our server Noah’s second day on the job. The food was great as always but Noah was in exceptional hurry to close our tab. Barely gave us 30 minutes. He came back at least 5 times to ask us if we needed anything else, if not then can we pay so he can get to the other bigger party that he needs to service. Very strange. We’re realizing that this seems to be a common problem across restaurants in south Austin. Staff is big hurry to kick you out.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I wanted to try something different for my birthday. This was a terrible experience and we felt it from the moment we walked up to the hostess stand. No one greeted us when we initially walked up. When we sat down at our table, there was still wet spots on the table from the previous glasses that had sat on the table. We ordered our drink with our waiter however, he never entered our drink order nor did he bother to come back and check on us within the 15 minutes we sat there waiting for our drinks. We decided to leave after the waiter brought back my drink incorrectly. He moved with no sense of urgency and did not appear to be apologetic for forgetting about us. They were not extremely busy either. The manager came out as we were leaving and asked to sit us in another area, but it was already ruined for me. That was our first and last time going there.
Honestly, this place has a good reputation and I had always wanted to go with my partner. Well, we finally went the other day and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. Some dishes were fine, I’m not going to say they weren’t. But when we ordered the tacos, the tortillas were cold. We asked the waiter to please heat them up, and after quite a long wait he brought the plate back and everything was still cold. To me, this felt disrespectful. They didn’t charge us for that dish, I asked for the check, and we left. I won’t be coming back, I’m sorry. I don’t go out to eat very often, and when I do, the minimum I expect is to be treated well—especially when I’m paying and leaving a tip on top of that. I’m not sure whether it was the waiter’s fault or the cook’s, but these are small details they really need to improve.
Amazing food, loved it! Staff on the other hand needs to be retrained. No one gave refills, very small cups, our waitress was the Dominican one. She had attitude the whole time. Didn't attend us. Rolled her eye whenever we asked for the bill and limes. Some one else took our order bc she was never around, someone else took our order and brought us the food, she was just hiding inside and ignoring us. I went inside and it was only 2 tables that werent hers. Out of a staff of 10 no one was giving anyone refills or on top of their game. Type of service to make you hate the place even if the food is great. Vibe was killed with the attitude. Hopefully the owners can take my review as insightful and not as a hater. I was a waitress before and this place definitely needs someone to be on top of these girls. Best of luck to the owners yourre tacos were hands down the best in austin🙏🏻
I ordered a bunch of food and specifically asked for no avocado, not just because we're picky, I am allergic and they put avocado all over the tacos (not as a side salsa like they said). Apart from that, the one that I was able to eat was awful, no flavor at all and because of the price I was expecting something good, probably it was a bad day but I'm never coming back. Churros were the only good thing about this place, apart from that is really bad.
