SO HAPPY Happy Hour is BACK! Great sushi appetizers and drinks specials! Great patio area and indoor bar seating with TV's. When it's busy your order can take forever to come out, when it's not it doesn't take long at all. Great spot to shop before it starts at 2p or after church on Sundays!
Kona Grill is a great place to go for happy hour. Just find an open table and they will provide you with quick service! The flat breads are delicious as are the pot stickers and drinks.
Went there with the wife during a happy hour and loved it. Ordered the steak and potatoes and was in heaven. My Mojito was so incredible! Wife enjoyed her night out and always wants Kona Grill.
It's great! The food is tasty, I had the Cuban sandwich..awesome. that with a Lagunitas IPA..righteous...but the trick is to order from Kevin the mixologist. Scott the GM needs to destress...he works hard keeping it all even keel. Relax and enjoy!
Sat out on the patio with my pup, it's pretty chilly outside but they have heaters out there which made it much more tolerable and I really appreciated that! They have an extended happy hour menu with great options and GREAT prices! Our server was friendly and timely with everything. Zero complaints.
This place appeals to all types. You can go for reverse happy hour and get a downtown vibe or you can go for dinner and have a classy meal. I have done both and enjoyed both! Saki bombs, cold draft beer and $4 rolls cannot be beat. They have great lettuce wraps too!
BEST HAPPY HOUR ! Seriously , M-F 3-7 , 9-12 ; Sat 9-12 ; Sunday all day. They have the best happy hour menu , from sushi rolls to big portion appetizers , flatbread , skewers ... you name it. Of course drinks are on there , sake bomb anyone? I still have yet found a sushi joint that can beat their happy hour. Their non-happy hour menu is really delicious as well , not the best sushi in town but entree and salads are delicious ! The patio and bar are always packed so come early!
Jefferson was a fantastic server! Visited here for the formula 1 grand prix weekend and were unfamiliar with the area, saw some great reviews on yelp and decided to give it a try. Walked in and were immediately seated and within a few minutes jefferson took our orders. Our meal was prepared quickly and was delicious. During our meal, the manager stopped by our table for a chat and had a great conversation, at the end of which she said we were free to have any desserts (which are massive!) on the house. Overall, a spectacular experience and a must-try in the austin area!
Kona grill is an excellent place to go with fiends or on a date. They have the best happy hour specials in town. The food and drinks are amazing and great service to go along with it. I always have a great experience dining and drinking at Kona. great atmosphere for anyone trying to loosen up after a long week.
Was back in Austin after 6 years. The food and service here are fantastic. A special shout out to our server on friday night, Ryan, who was very friendly and helpful. My penne with shrimp in lemon sauce was delicious and the key lime pie in the end was a huge serving of goodness!
Sat in the outdoor patio last night with my family and our food took quite awhile to arrive. We were not in a hurry but the Manager, I think his name was Kevin, 6’8”, came to our table, apologized for the long wait, bought the missing item and a dessert to share for the table. That’s how handle customer service. We love Kona Grill.
Nice cozy atmosphere. Met up with some friends for the reverse happy hour and it wasnt bad. Had the cheeseburger sliders which were 2 good sizes and didn't disappoint me. Had the house margarita to wash it down...
Such a great place with happy hour - the quality of food and drink for the price is amazing. Service can be good or average, depending on the server you get, but for the quality and price - really outstanding.
This place is fantastic. I went there for the first time last night and loved it. We had the smoked gouda fondue and it was amazing! Then I got the spider roll to eat. Best sushi I've had. Great atmosphere and the staff is very kind. Oh and that carrot cake!!! Mmmm nom nom nom haha. I would definitely recommend.
Kona grill is an awesome place for happy hour. They have a large variety of happy hour appetizers and drinks. The quality of the food is superb. The service is fast and excellent. I have been there several times, usually on the weekend with family and friends and we love that there happy hour is also available on weekends. There food is non greasy and you can eat a healthy meal for an awesome price.
Great place!!! Perfect blend of more casual and upscale pan Asian. We have been here more than 20x, but Allen is the perfect bartender! There are so many drinks and rolls to choose from. He made sure we liked everything while getting the best bang for our buck. 🍣🥂
Food was great, drinks were too. Service was good and the wait wasn't bad at all. We went for reverse happy hour which is awesome. I got a frozen margarita, rainbow roll, and butter cake for dessert. No complaints!
Went in here tonight w my boyfriend (we are frequent customers)... the happy hour bar and tables were crowded. The manager- John- offered us a table with the happy hour menu and our waiter was wonderful!! (A blonde lady) They took such good care of us and this place has extremely wonderful food. The management here is awesome. Almost all of the waiters are super great. This place will continue to take all of my money and I’m super okay with that!!!!!
Recently came in for a business lunch with some clients. Our server Morgan was just a ray of sunshine and gave us excellent and prompt service. The whole office loves to order lunch from here. We can't get enough of the great sushi and the amazing chili glazed salmon! Lots of healthy options to choose from so everyone is happy.
Excellent service and a great price. The environment is great as well. My expectations where a little bit low for an Hawaiian bistro, but I was wrong. The Kona Grill is a great choice to grab a meal. No matter the occasion. Ever time I am there I order the Macadamian Chicken. I love this meal!
Amazing staff and excellent service overall. Many hand crafted dishes prepared by outstanding chefs would recommend for anyone looking for a great place for anything from a formal lunch meeting to a family outing. The menu contains a wide variety of classics and new age dishes with something for everyone.
I chose Kona Grill to start off a bachelor party for my good friend. The sushi is good, the hot sake is great, and our server was super nice. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Domain. If anything, there happy-hour is worth the drive. Enjoy!
Best hidden gem in the Domain. If your out and are thinking of grabbing a bite go here you won't be disappointed. Kona Grill has great food, awesome service, and the true Austin vibe. Menu has something for everyone. Great Happy Hour. Love the lettuce wraps.
I always have a good experience here. Their food is amazing and waiting for their happy hour specials is worth it. There is also muiltiple seating options for good and bad weather. There is a wrap around patio that is covered and also features a bar that you can sit inside or outside at. Ask for Alan, he is really fun and takes care of his customers!
Excellent customer service!!! My son has all the food allergies we honestly had no expectation on being able to give him anything. Scott (manager) came to the table to discuss with us so he could really understand our son's limitations. He was able to recommend things and my son ended up enjoying a side dish along with the rest of us! Small things mean a lot to people like us.
We came here for a happy hour to entertain clients. We were very pleased with the attentiveness of the staff and the quality of the food and beverages. Highly recommend coming here. This is also a very good place to bring that special someone in your life
The food and service here is always stellar. Sushi bar, formal dinning and patio available for whatever you're feeling. Also, great happy hour in the bar and patio with amazing drinks (try The Herbalist!) and delicious rolls & snacks.
Es muy buen restaurante
Me encanta el Lugar
I love this place (although I may be a bit biased from the year I spent working here). The happy hour is definitely awesome. Sake bombs for ~$8 (gives about 3 bombs plus some extra beer). A HUGE selection of appetizers that are significantly discounted. And the wait staff are usually really nice (there was this one guy I thought was going to steal my soul but I don't think he works there anymore). If you're in the mood for a nice dinner, they have that too. The full menu is really REALLY good and reasonably priced for what you get (I was constantly boxing up leftovers for people). Sushi is always fresh and well made. Those sushi chefs know their stuff. Pro tip: Every Kona Grill has a special roll that only that location makes. The Domain's is the Red River Roll. Ask your server about it. It's pricey but 100% worth it.
The sushi here was fantastic and the overall atmosphere was great. They would change the Happy Hour rules. Basically if you're not at the bar, you can't partake in the happy hour menu, regardless of even having a reservation. Which is why I gave 4 starts. Leah, our waitress was very sweet.
Kona Grill often seems to get a bad rap but I've always enjoyed the Happy Hour and the appetizers. The fish items seem very fresh and consistently well prepared. The only negative is that the service can sometimes be absentee.
I love Kona. Dassit. They have lovely happy hour specials. Tasty & well priced sushi rolls and strong and well priced drinks. When I came a few weeks ago, I sat at the bar and I was almost confused because I was greeted 3 times by 3 different people in 3 mins (or less). "Someone will be right with you, ma'am." That never happens anywhere. But it was nice lol. All of the bartenders were smiling and had excellent customer service. I wish I knew their names...
Food was good, but the staff seemed frazzled and overwhelmed. They couldn't easily identify what they were serving to guests. Additionally, they didnt pull curtains on the patio until nearly 10pm, almost as if they were trying to discourage patio sitting to bc of the happy hour deals out there. I didn't really mind as I had my coat, but it was an observation.
A large variety of very enjoyable food items, served by a pleasant and helpful staff. The prices are higher than many similar places, and the surroundings in The Domain are...well, so typically Austin, and not in a good way. But once you're inside, it's quite enjoyable.
They have an excellent menu. I however do not like their non-alcoholic drink menu. However their Monday thru Friday 3-7pm happy hour and having BIG Kirin Ichiban's on tap is a definitely winner! Their appetizers are amazing, and their happy hour menu is quite extensive. Definitely worth the stop after a long day of shopping in the Domain.
Great food, and plenty of shopping options before or after. Been here for a few birthdays and had a great time. There is a great atmosphere. If you're going here during a busy time plan to walk a bit if you aren't doing valet. There is a lot next to it, but it fills up quickly.
This is one of my favorite places at the domain. I love the sushi they serve, very varied and all of it good. Some are really spicy, but the menu has all of that highlighted. Customer Service is really good as well.
Great for happy hour. Awesome atmosphere, cheap and very good drinks. Tasty and inexpensive happy hour food. The sliders are really good. Happy hour everydayyyy and twice Saturdays!! Outside happy hour its overpriced.
We went here with a very large party (20+) and they accommodated us very well. They have a pretty large selection of sushi and other Asian items. In terms of appetizer and sushi taste presentation, the food was average, but their deserts and drinks were delicious. I tried a little bit of the chocolate brownie and carrot cake, and both were amazing. I would definitely come back here, especially for their happy hour/
One of the best happy hour in town. The food is consistently tasty and well made, sushi is generally pretty fresh from what I've experienced. I would recommend Kona if you have family in for the holidays, it's a good dining experience as well.
Reverse Happy Hour is the main attraction at Kona. Come hungry, but you'd better not be in a rush. It took nearly 10 minutes for a server to notice us on the patio. It was a Sunday, during lunch hours, so I don't blame her at all. I knew she'd take care of us when she came back with water for the dog. The service and food were great, even after the slow start.
Most trendy and happening sushi place in north austin that I know of. They have a great happy hour and reverse happy hour, but be prepared to throw some elbows because they get busy and people are fighting for spots since you have to either sit at the bar or outside to get happy hour pricing. Otherwise they offer a broad menu and great food. Service is spotty depending on who you get but that's with anything I guess. Highly recommended if you don't want to trek downtown for a trendy sushi rest.
I usually only make it out for the reverse happy hours. The food is pretty good and the drinks are as well. Last time I went, they were busy and ended up bringing out our food a couple minutes late. It wasn't that big of a deal and we didn't even say anything but the server still comped part of our meal. I appreciate a restaurant who is willing to look out for their customers and I'll be back because of this.
Great food. We had the jambalaya and chicken and broccoli. Tasted great, service was good. Fairly priced. Decent drink menu. Didn't get to try out happy hour or the sushi. Overall good, nothing spectacular.
I recommend going here for happy hour. It probably has one of the best happy hour menus in all of Austin. You can't really beat the 4 or so drinks you get out of the sake bomb, and it's fun to get stared at when you go for the bomb with the full-on chopsticks and everything. Just remember it's on the patio and can be tricky to get a seat; I also don't recommend large groups because it's hard to get enough chairs. But 4-6 or so is perfect.
Una visita inmperdible en Austin Muy buen lugar.
This place is great! I came here with a friend last Sunday and enjoyed happy hour, which is all day in the bar area or at the bar. The drinks were decently discounted and the food was cheap and delicious. I had a margarita and it was tasty, as was the two sushi rolls I ordered. Yum yum! I will be back for more next time I'm in town
Kona Grill has continuously had one of the best happy hours in the domain, if not all of north Austin. Their drinks are really good and their sushi very yummy. The menu over all isn’t that exciting but it’s definitely worth going for happy hour. I love their cosmos and mules! The spicy tuna roll is really really good and way spicier than most places which I love!
Kona grill is a pretty upscale sushi place. I went there for my birthday and it was our first time at a sushi place. The waiter was nice and polite as he explained what the different rolls were, which were his favorites and how to order. We both ordered two rolls and we were able to mix and match them. They were so good compared to the HEB sushi I am used to. We have gone back quite a few times but it is on the pricey side so it is not something you can go to daily. They had a pretty good deal with $25 off for my birthday so it made it worth the trip.
I wish I could give a 4.5. This location is really polished. And the food is wonderful. I usually do sushi and sake and it's always great. I will say this visit our waiter was a little salty...he seemed slightly annoyed by us. To be fair, we had a large party with four kids at the table!
We went to Kona Grill for a work happy hour at 5:30 on a Friday and of course the bar was packed. We had a group of about 10 people coming and there wasn't even a lot of standing room. At first the manager said he wouldn't be able to accommodate us in the dining room but after several minutes of us clearly looking lost and the dining room looking empty, he offered to push some tables together for us in the dining room and give us happy hour pricing in there! We were very relieved. The drinks were delicious and so were the apps we ordered. My coworkers ordered sushi and it all looked fresh and there were no complaints. I would go again simply because the manager made our experience so great.
I went here with some friends for reverse happy hour. As expected it was super crowded. However, what we didn't know is that if you wanted to get in on the reverse happy hour deal you had to stay at the bar and not the restaurant area which sucked since it was standing room only at the bar. Other than that, I was boring and only ordered a burger since I am not a sushi person. The burger was really good as were the fries so I was happy with that. The service was bad and the waiter came by like maybe 3 times. Overall, I wasn't very impressed and it was overpriced.
The ambience is definitely fitting for area...I went for a bday gathering, and would probably go again. Our waitress was awesome! It was almost like she really cared about our eating experience! The stars got docked because of the food. I had the snapper with spaetzle (spaetzle was bland as well as the fish), a homie had the lettuce wraps (really good), and the las Las Vegas roll (she said she loved it), and I had the chocolate butter cake for dessert with ice cream (cake was horribly dry and off tasting, and the ice cream tasted artificially sweet). Also, my friend had to have some type of rewards points to get a free bday dessert! Overall, not bad, but not great either.
They've changed their menu. Happy hour was still good. Sushi for$5 is awesome. Calamari was great. I'm disappointed that they removed the smoked Gouda fondue. That's the main reason I came for. They removed a lot of other staple items as well. The food was still decent. I'm just disappointed in the fondue and one of the sushi rolls I ordered.
If you can score parking and a decent table on the patio, happy hour is pretty good. I have had some atrocious service here and I've had stellar service here, so it evens out, I guess. I'd never go for anything other than happy hour though.
Great sushi Happy Hour but I hate the HH seating situation. HH is only for dining at the patio or by the bar area. No one will seat you so if it's too busy, you have to 'hover' over a table to 'reserve' it...
The three stars go to our waiter. He was a fantastic server and he was very attentive. The food was another story. From appetizers to our entree, neither my companion nor myself enjoyed our food. Appetizer of dumplings were below average, sushi was exceptionally well made but the orange colored sauce was hotter than wasabi and even the fresh ginger couldn't absorb it. The chicken club appeared to have zero seasoning. Walked away unimpressed.
We tried this place when it first opened, for it seemed the most affordable option at that Domain. Happy Hour prices are especially inviting. However, in general, the sauces were too "strange" for our palettes.
I was craving a basic California Roll after work one day, so I decided that I would stop by one day after work. It was that slow time before the happy hour rush, so I guess that was the reason that no one was waiting to receive people at the front desk. They probably felt it was a good time to take a break and grab a bite since most folks generally head to the bar. That's why, when the young lady who should have been acting as hostess, emerged from the kitchen, chewing, I kind of gave her a pass. I kind of expected her to apologize for having me wait there for 10 minutes, but there was nothing doing. At any rate, I've waited for a table here outside during happy hour. The food isn't THAT good...and the drinks aren't THAT strong...not enough to wait every time I seem to go there. I'm just saying.
decent food but nothing to go out of your way for. You can get anything from sushi to pepperoni pizza here. the restaurant atmosphere reminds me of a generic hotel restaurant. the sushi is decent and their 9 to 11 happy hour seems to pull in a decent late happy hour crowd to the bar.
I don't like to trash restaurants, so the following is just feedback that I hope will help the restaurant improve. The service was okay. I appreciated our server's honesty about the menu items that he favored over others. However, we ordered calamari and it came out extremely greasy and flavorless. Since it took so long for the calamari to come out, I suspect that our server (or the food runner) had forgotten about it and asked the kitchen to toss it back into the fryer, in a misguided effort to serve it warm. Someone in management (I'm assuming) replaced our appetizer with a new batch of calamari, gratis. However, the server neither apologized, nor acknowledged the situation. Nevertheless, we appreciated the gesture of having the dish replaced. The food wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst, and the ambiance was decent. In the end, I'm not sure I'd feel confident in trying sashimi if they have trouble with less complex fare.
Servers are very attentive and the food is fine but I found the drinks to be subpar. I ordered a Moscow Mule and it tasted primarily of lime, had far too much ice, and came with a massive wedge of lime. I couldn't taste the ginger at all. The wine was eh, but they had a great deal on bottle prices so I didn't knock off points for that.
Great food & tolerant & happy help. Even with a party of 10... ordering 1 drink at a time. If you're a sushi fan, this place will disappoint. This is more for people who are first trying to eat sushi and can't commit to real, raw fish. Most of their "sushi" is fried or covered in mayonnaise. But, their fried avocado egg rolls are pretty good. Great happy hour selection (sans sushi).
Buen sabor, aunque muy poca comida, algo sucio el lugar (pisos, mesas)
La comida rica pero la atención no fue buena.
I've eaten here a couple of times and have had different experiences both times. The setting is very nice and I'd say its a good place to go on a date. My experience eating indoors was nice, the food is fresh and delicious. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Another time we dined outside at the bar. The food here is amazing and I have no complaints about the food. The bartender that served us was horrible. It took my 10 minutes to order a drink and then he just completely forgot about it and I waited another 10 minutes before he realized it. To top it off he added extra to the tip I left on the credit card receipt. I'll never pay using plastic there again. The food is great but the service so far is a 50/50
I ordered a shrimp/pork fried rice an soda, the rice was greasy undercooked an very small portion hardly no shrimp or pork at all! The beverage tasted like the machine needed thorough cleaning (sewer water taste)! Was disappointed wth service took forever to get things done the waiter was slow would stop to talk to others instead of completing our request on timely basis! Felt it was waste of $$!
so...the food is decent, it has a great location and for the most part the service is ok...however when it sucks, it's awful. I waited 30 min for a drink while I impatiently watched those who came at the same time or after me get served first. My server Nick, who was attentive and prompt, offered to get the manager, John. I then realized he was the same angry guy who had wiped off my table. when I share my concern, he obviously couldnt care less and proceeded to tell me how long others had been there..and they had all been served already. I rarely eat at Kona and with so many other options at the domain, I won't again or recommend it to anyone else.
Infourtaniatly a New Year's eve dinner that was not even close to being to Kona Grill standars. Totally understaffed. Arrived 6:30 and the place was about half full. We had a party of 6. We wait 20 min for our 1st drink. But not to bad because we where talking. 7:30 we had to ask if possible we could get another round and order dinner. We started off with a couple appetizers which tasted great. Dinner arrived around 8:00. Still a little long but we where visiting. Well when dinner came I order a med rare steak. It was well done. Waitress came back and took it back right away. Well the rest of my family finished eating and no sign of my meal. After 20 min and no sign I went and got a manager when I could see our server was busy and not coming to the table. He apologized and went to check. 10 min went by and still no dinner. I asked the server to take it off the bill. Manager never came back to apologize or offer to buy us a drink or dessert. Sad. I guess that is what happened for eating at a francaise. And the sad part was we where there 2 and half hours and I watch 3 of the best booths sit dirty from the time I came in until we left. Never saw a busboy on the floor for more water. When we left no greeting to ask how everything was. There had to be buy now 20 dirty tables in the place. Unfortunately you wrecked our 1st time experience. We still paid $70 for 2 vodkas, 2 appetizer and a salad.
2016: I love everything about this resturant. It is my favorite resturant in Texas! Update: 2018 I’ve been a customer for a couple of years now, due to recent and dramatic changes; it is no longer a place I look forward to eat at. What I’m most disappointed about is their “happy hour”. Kona Grill is definitely not what it used to be.
While the service was good, the food wasn't. The sushi we ordered was covered in mayo, a soy based sauce, and spices — which made it so you couldn't really taste the fish. We also ordered a pad Thai and the noodles were hard. And it, too, was over sauces. Kona is a fine spot for a drink and appetizer, but I can't recommend it for dinner.
Pretty disappointed in our experience here last night. Went here to celebrate! Seated promptly, but took quite a while for our waitress to come by. In the meantime a table next to us is seated, and they have the table SO close to our booth that I have to be in this gentlemen's personal space to get up and down from my seat- probably about 10-12 inches of space for me to squeeze through. Had to request our sauce plates and sauces- mine was dirty.... asked for silverware/napkin as well but that never came. After being served our entree's, they still haven't gotten silverware on our table so we had to steal from the empty table close by.... Waitress was either not being attentive or could not hear us, either way we felt pretty neglected the entire time. My rolls were ok, a little dry? He had the salmon entree, loved it. Not sure if I can attribute all of the dissatisfaction to one thing. Too loud, overcrowded, meh food. Expected more- I will stick to the happy hour/bar area as I have never been let down there!
Had I not had the most unprofessional and rude server I would say this place is pretty good. But since he wanted to yell at me and my sister and rudely attempt to snatch my drink off the table after we decided we were going to go somewhere else, I am completely appalled at that time of service. Please ask for someone else if the tall, skinny white guy with the brown scruffy hair with the pimples on his face comes up to you! He has no regard for customer service and will completely ruin your experience. I also asked for a manager and the manager never came to our table, I had to go find him. I never thought I would be treated like this and to have my sister sitting there was even more disturbing. I hope no one ever has to experience that again!
Dining experience was awful! No apologies by very rude manager. Appending to last review with details: We were eight friends celebrating a birthday and we were the only dine-in group on 20th of May, 2018. Appetizers took more than 45mins. and Entrees took well over an hour. Heading out, couple of us requested to speak to the manager. We told him about our experience and he offered no apology and basically told us that since we have already settled the bill which was over $200, he cant do anything. He went ahead to say that if he had to offer any discount for the poor service, he would have to do it for all the other people (Happy Hour Bar area), his business will run down! After posting my experience on google, I was asked to reach out, and speak to the Manager. Called Kona Grill, about a week ago, spoke to assist. manager who said that there is nothing that he can do but the manager will definitely call me back. Left my number, manager still hasn't called.
Go somewhere else. We had the potstickers and calamari for appetizers and both were bad... not sub-par or average, simply bad. And it wasn't that they were prepared wrong or overcooked, they were just fundamentally made with poor ingredients and did not taste good. Additionally, it was easily the worst sushi I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and eat at another restaurant. Overpriced, horrible food.
Tonight Kona gets negative stars! This place has been my favorite happy hour place for the last 3 years living in Austin. Tonight I experience racism. My sister and I both Haitians meaning chocolate skin show up for dinner. We arrive at 8:50. The waiter walks up asking for our drivers license. I have mine my sister didn't have hers. She pulls up a picture of her ID on her phone and says we are here to eat not drink. Manager claims that's not going to happen tonight. Get it together Kona. You are not a bar but a restaurant!! Let people eat! I will never be back but seriously this is unacceptable. Do Better!!!
Not a fan at all. Horrible service, waitress forgot part of my order. Says everything is made from scratch and can be customized, then says my food can't be customized. Had to actually get up and refill my own drink while the waitress kept the alcohol flowing at the next table. Won't ever be back.
DONT EAT HERE THEY WILL ROB YOU. I was just at this restaurant last Saturday and Monday morning I checked my bank account and I was charged $212 when my tab was only $70.91. I call and talk to a manager named Keith and he proceeded to tell me that my bank account holds extra money to make sure I have funds available in the account. I have a Chase debit account and this does not happen with a regular debit card like this. I have never had this happen to me and I've had this bank account for over 10 years. I call and talk to a manager named Keith and he proceeded to tell me that my bank account holders extra money to make sure I have funds available in the account. I have never had this happen to me and I've had this bank account for over 10 years. On my bank account it clearly says $212 was deducted to Kona Grill and The manager Keith was basically pushing it off to my bank saying that they were the issue on The $212 being to ducted. I would advise not to go eat here because if you have any issues the manager will just put it off saying that they did nothing wrong. This will be my last time ever eating at this place. I suggest you go elsewhere for dinner or lunch because if they overcharge you they will basically say it's your banks fault. I am very displeased with Keith's " customer service" and feel real disrespected with how Keith's conversation went with me as he tried to make me look stupid saying the bank holds extra money.
I went to kona for happy hour with my wife and we ordered the chicken lettuce wraps amongst other things. When the lettuce wraps arrived and i bit into one i noticed the wraps were gritty and filled with dirt! The lettuce had not been washed but instead just put onto the plate dirty. I brought it to the servers attention and she said a manager would speak to us and correct the situation. More wraps were brought to us but at the end of our meal the manager, Lee, who was obviously there still never bothered to check on us. He refused to comp us the wraps saying since we ate it anyways he would not take it off the ticket, even though i had a mouth full of mud! This is ridiculous & was poorly handled by the manager, we will not be returning! We even sent an email to corporate about our experience being this is a major negative health concern & have still not recived a response & have been waiting for over a month.
For a long time this was my go to spot, their happy hour is great and the angry edamame is delicious. They have recently changed their menu removing many of my favorite items. Historically the service has been fantastic but during my last visit my server seemed annoyed with us. When we asked for her suggestions she only identified the most expensive items on the menu. I was very disappointed. Like i said historically this has been one of my favorite spots but with the changes to the menu and poor service during my last visit i will think twice before returning. Update: I am changing my 3 star review to 1 due to two incredibly negative experiences in a row. In an even more recent visit to this establishment. My husband and I were excited to share some delicious food with our out of town guests. We had a larger party ( 8 people) I tried to call in advance. After the phone rang for 3 minutes straight we decided to just walk in with our party and wait for a table. We were prepared for a longer wait time since we had a larger party. Upon arrival we noticed the dining space was incredibly empty the only seats that were full were in the bar area. Upon telling the hostess our group size she immediately said "we can not accommodate you" I asked if she was sure since we had 2 children with us, she said she would speak with her manager. She returned to me with an incredibly rude and condescending tone letting me know "we can not accommodate you". Her statement was not accompanied by an apology or explanation of any sort. I would have completely understood if there was an event or an evening filled with reservations but instead I left this interaction feeling embarrassed and lesser than. I'm not sure if management has changed at this location or of these are one off events... my hope is that experiences like this one are anomalies but my last 2 visits to this establishment have been awful. I used to LOVE this spot. It really bothers me that my experiences have been this disappointing twice in a row. If you choose to go I hope your experience is better than mine but they have lost my business.
We came for the happy hour and the outside seating was open seating which is fine. However we had to clean a table for ourselves because the staff neglected to. On top of that we waited ~20 minutes before we decided to leave. Dominion promotes animals and is pet friendly but they should not allow patrons to bring their large dogs into a small dining section. Having to carefully maneuver around large dogs who I do not know is friendly or not is not very pleasent. I do not recommend.
A friend and I decided to grab a late dinner at Kona Grill. We were hoping to be able to do the reverse happy hour, but the only available seats were outside and it was a cold night. We instead, grabbed dinner in the regular dinning area. We were greeted by our waitress and before we had a chance to fully review the menu she asked us if we were ready to order--It seemed like she was in a hurry to get our order in. We ordered an appetizer of chicken satay, 2 sushi rolls and a pizza. The appetizer was very delicious. The sushi rolls were inedible. The Volcano roll had a strong fishy taste, we each tried a piece and could not eat more. The Houston Roll was poorly constructed and falling apart, it had a very bland taste and was also inedible. The pizza was delicious, so we enjoyed that but were left hungry. When we told our waitress that we did not like the two sushi rolls she asked us if it was because we the rolls were not what we expected or because we did not like how they tasted. We told her the Volcano Roll tasted fishy. She immediately replied and said that the Volcano Roll IS supposed taste fishy, which I understand...it is sushi, but the fishy taste was so strong it was unpleasant. I asked to see a dessert menu and the waitress informed me that the kitchen had closed at 10:00PM, it was 10:15PM. Overall I did not have a very good experience and do not wish to return to Kona grill. The atmosphere was nice and enjoyable but the food and the customer service was terrible.
I had been wanting to try out this place for awhile after hearing good things from others. My partner and I went Monday around 5:20pm and were seated inside and got our drink orders taken but when the waitress came back and saw that we were looking at the happy hour menu she told us we had to sit in the bar area or patio to receive those prices, so we moved ourselves and our drinks to the bar area (the hostess never told us this when we walked in). We sat in the bar area for over 7 minutes and a waitress for that area greeted and took care of every other table around us, even the one right next to us who had paid and got their table cleaned off while we were waiting, but never greeted us one even though myself and my partner made eye contact with her. The place was not busy at all and the tables around us all already had their food. We ended up leaving because nobody greeted us. We went elsewhere in the domain and got much better service.
Let me start out, I have been coming to Kona for many many years and over the last 6 months the service has been horrendous. Employees are very disengaged and the manager is even more disconnected. The previous manager would ALWAYS come by and ask how things are going. Now you can sit there for 15 minutes without being waited on and the manager is resetting tables instead of tending to customs. Go for their happy hour as their food is amazing but service is terrible.
The service was absolutely terrible. Dined with some friends out on the patio to watch some of the World Series and have a good bite and a few drinks. After ordering first drink and some calamari received my drink 20 minutes later and the calamari 30 minutes later, and then we didn't see our waiter again for a solid 25-30 minutes. They seated four of us at a table Built for Two and eventually we all migrated over to the bar section that was still outside on the porch. My friend ordered a double shot and they poured him 2 ounces and said that's what they considered to be a double shot and wanted to charge him about $10 for it. I ordered a drink and watch them use a 1 oz measuring to make my drink and wanted to charge me $9 for that. When we confronted the server about their low serving portion standards she got a very rude attitude towards us and told us that's just our policy do you want to drink or not. That will definitely be the last time I go to this place which is a shame because the food tasted quite good. Hats off to the chef since the food was tasty, major thumbs down for pretty much everybody else I interacted with there. Obviously I'm not the only one that can see this place is going seriously downhill if this is how the owner wants to manage their standards on how people are treated and what they consider to be a proper serving of alcohol to price ratio. You're obviously ripping people off and based on the other one star reviews right below mine, this is clearly not a one-time bad experience
