Johnny’s was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm atmosphere, the inviting setup, and the sheer abundance of food options. This place easily ranks in my top three best brunch spots I’ve EVER visited. Every dish was cooked to absolute perfection — the flavors, the presentation, everything was spot on. I still catch myself thinking about how good that meal was to this day. The service only made the experience better; the staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was just right. If you’re looking for a brunch that truly stands out and leaves a lasting impression, Johnny’s is the place. I’ll definitely be returning!
This place is absolutely wonderful. I particularly love that they change their menus often and always have options for all dietary restrictions and they are tucked away in a tree-lined street. Helen and all of the staff is always kind and knowledgeable on menu preferences. If I could add one thing to Johnny's, that would be for them to bring the flowers and farmer's market back. It was a huge hit and highlight for patrons in the past and I truly miss it.
Johnny's is a quiet and cozy spot nestled in a historic north Baltimore location. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They were decorating for the Christmas holiday, which added to the warm atmosphere. You can have a seat at one of two bars or grab a table. The food was delicious! We ordered fried oysters and muscles to start. All cooked to perfection. I ordered an Angus burger medium rare with a fried egg and Johnny's in-house cole slaw on the side. The slaw was fresh and crispy. It was flavorful with just the right amount of sauce. The burger got a bit sloppy towards the end, but most really good burgers do. My wife had the salmon, which she really enjoyed. The prices were reasonable as well. All in all, our time and money was well spent, and we'll be back in the future.
Fantastic experience today at Johnny's... my first time visiting and it was delightful. It has such a sweet charm to it... cute location, welcoming staff, clean appearance, bathrooms were beautiful and most importantly- CLEAN. Our server was fantastic and attentive. Crab soup and ceviche - DELICIOUS. I will definitely be back 🙂🙂
The food is awesome. So is the management which gets 10 on 10 for regulating COVID precautionary measures inside the restaurant. The 1 hour restricted sitting time is enough to savor the amazing cuisine and dessert. I highly recommend this place. Also, really good for mid-size family dining/get together.
Thanksgiving special buffet was awesome! Can't wait to try here on a regular day.
Man ole man, this place was hiding from me. Like, literally tucked in a corner of a plaza on Roland Avenue. This place is great. The staff is extremely professional and well versed in the menu-friendly as well. The berry Christmas cocktail was amazing. The crab bisque was so I good I order a second on for dessert 😅. The salmon dish was great too, but if you like soup and crab- get the soup!
Came here for brunch, can't wait to come back! A unique menu that satisfies everyone in a large group. Down home cooking with excellent drinks. Really liked the outdoor seating and extra covid precautions. I'd suggest making a reservation.
Thanks for making outdoor seating so well-spaced, safe, and comfortable, Johnny's! Have loved every meal I've had here, especially the ones that involved seafood. The different seating options provide variety of atmosphere - more casual to more upscale.
Omg this place is amazing!! I recommend it for date night, night out with friends, or if you want to dine alone. The service is top notch! The good is unbelievably good! And the wine, I mean just come on! They did just about everything right. From the moment my fiancé and I walked in, everything was just perfect. They attended to us immediately, our table wasn’t ready but we didn’t have to wait very long for that. I went to use the restroom and by the time I came back our table was ready. We had wonderful servers who took great care of us. I can’t speak highly enough about this restaurant. I would go again. The pictures are of the Caesar salad and pork empanadas we ordered as appetizers. Both were amazing. I unfortunately forgot to take a picture of my entree which was the pan roasted rockfish with Brussels sprouts, bacon, beech mushrooms, and a parsley puree. I was too busy devouring it.
Sat in the bar area for dinner and was extremely impressed with the entire evening. Server was excellent. Drinks, food, ambiance, prices very reasonable. The star of the night for me was the Caesar Salad! I normally skip the crotons and add in tomato and onions. Finely chopped and outstanding flavor. Possibly the best I've had in a very long time. Can't wait to come back.
Was not disappointed with our dining experience at Johnny's. We ate inside, what character the restaurant has! Covid protocol was followed by all. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was delicious. Looking forward to returning again soon!
We had a team lunch at Johnny’s and the staff were fantastic in catering to our large group. We were able to sample all their appetizers, much of their menu, and all of the amazing cookies (personally, the mocha ones are probably the best cookies I’ve ever had)! We topped off the meal with a great cup of cappuccino. Great atmosphere, nice location, and - even though it’s tight - not bad parking either.
I’ve been coming to Johnny’s for years and always have a great experience. Lately, with the new COVID measures in place, the staff has been handling it very responsibly. The food is always amazing and the prices are definitely fair. We always leave with leftovers. They have an excellent collection of whiskies and wine. There are mid week specials too, like a burger night that I happened upon one time and it felt too good to be true. Love you, Johnny’s!
The burger was A MAZ ING. Mom said the egss benedict was great next time get it over toast she said. I hope Katie is your waitress she's fantastic
Phenomenal service!! Nicole and Julia were fabulous. The hostess was welcoming and vibrant. Food was stellar! Black Lives Matter sign welcoming me in was icing on the cake. Thank you for going the extra mile with that. We are from out of town where racism has been prevalent so to feel welcome in both word and deed means more than you know. Until we meet again … Sending peace and this black girl is glad she mattered 💜💜
This is an awesome spot in Roland Park. If you want to get a nice breakfast or brunch with the family or sneak away and have an intimate date night this place has Excellent food, service l, and atmosphere!!! Enjoy!
Came here for brunch without a reservation and was seated promptly. The Eggs Benedict was really tasty—the eggs were poached perfectly and the potatoes were nice. The Bison and Black Bean Chilli was not overly spiced and the poached egg in it added another layer to the dish. Overall, good quality food, I will probably be back to try other dishes from the menu.
Chavon is the best bartender/server!! Me and my best girlfriend came late and he made us cocktails and made sure we had the best buttery oysters!!! Love this place!!!
Delicious every time! Also, that's FILET on that order of huevos rancheros! Unfortunately I think they took it off the menu. The coffee is excellent. The BLT was pretty standard and the fries were great!
Took the family here as a vacation restaurant stop. Everything was perfect, the food was amazing! The kiddo loved his grilled chicken and crispy French fries (these puppies are hand-cut here and you can taste the difference), the house-made chips & guac went over very well, the shrimp ceviche was delightful, and the mahi-mahi black bean tostada will go down as one of the best dishes I've ever been surprised by (of all the ingredients, the humble black bean ties the flavors together perfectly!) I was worried going in that Johnny's might be spreading itself too thin: bakery, bar, seafood restaurant, family dining...just so much going on, yet everything was done very, very well. Words of caution: the chocolate milk is made with a traditional Mexican chocolate, not some Hershey's syrup. If that doesn't sound like something your little ones can handle, I'd skip it entirely.
Reasonable prices, the food is good (love the fried oysters oyster appetizer). The noise level isn't bad, has a kind of classic dark wood old school vibe (it's in the basement of the building). I like the menu. Our $5 happy hour glass of Italian red wine was a generous pour and tasty. Together, I think it hits a satisfying good value for a restaurant meal.
Had a lunch following a memorial service and it was perfect. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. I didn't have to worry about a thing. Hope to host another event there on a happier occasion.
A nice young gentleman named Max was our waiter and he was very attentive to her needs and we were a group of 10 people. Everyone seemed to be very happy with the food and this is not the first time I’ve been there.
The most consistent restaurant in baltimore. Fresh ingredients made creatively. Always exemplary service. Stay away from bakery area. Dangerous for your hips.
We came here for our family's Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. The staff was lovely, the spread was extensive and tasty, and the cocktails were also well-crafted. Thank you all!
We rented out a private room here for our post wedding ceremony celebration with about 25 people and it was perfect! The planning process with Felicia was so wonderful, and she made it so easy for us! The room was set up beautifully, the wait staff we had were so attentive and kind, and the food and drinks were the star of the show. Our guests loved the ambiance and all of the food. I highly recommend this place for any private events as they were so easy to work with and everything went so smoothly!
I came here for a business meeting at 7:30PM. The host Liz was awesome and she was so nice that she came back and checked on us. Our host was super cute and I loved her glasses although I had no idea of her name. Sorry!! Food was 90/100 and atmosphere was fine. I would rather sit by windows. I smelled like a big French fries when I came out. Overall, I loved it. I will come back. But will stay away from certain areas.
I had the best meal that I can remember at Johnny's last weekend. We are going back this week. (Scallops, mashed potatoes and Zinfandel vino. All so good. Service spooktacular.) The entire restaurant inside and out is decorated with a spooky Beetlejuice bent. So fun. They went all out. Cozy place for romantic night out with your guy or gal.
Lovely outdoor seating - service was awesome. Food was 50/50 … corn soup was great. Veggies on the hummus tray weren’t on par
This was my first experience. I went with my sister and two friends. The atmosphere was lovely, but it was so dimly lit in there. You can barely see the menus. I think they were going for intimate type vibe but just a little bit more light would’ve been nice. What yall hiding in there 👀? Just kidding. Anyways, our servers were awesome though and we even had other servers check in on us and give us recommendations. We went for restaurant week. I put a picture below of the deal. The cocktail of the mouth was really good. It was a captain Morgan based drink. The calamari was disappointing. It was called crispy calamari, but was not crispy at all. The short rib was good and so was the blueberry cheesecake. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the proportions. I get that it is restaurant week, but it felt like the proportions were kid sized. Overall, we did enjoy ourselves and I would go back again to try the food outside of restaurant week.
We have been a few times at Johnny’s for dinner and it is always a good experience. We started off with the guacomole appetizer. It was tasty but we would have preferred a different kind of corn chips, lighter and fresher. We then ordered the fish and chips and fried rice with bacon. We were able to substitute coleslaw for the chips. For dessert, we shared a slice of the carrot cake.i needed to ask for another expresso cafe because the first one was lukewarm. The second cup was fine. I was also surprised that my expresso was $6.00 - that’s too much money! Overall, we like the menu selection and plan on returning soon.
Johnny's is a charming neighborhood spot that has simple uncomplicated food that tastes good. We enjoyed the outside patio. The staff was eager and friendly. We ordered a round of caramel and lavender iced espresso lattes that were smooth and flavorful, I'd order the caramel again. Our table ordered the avocado toast (recommended by our server), omelette of the day, breakfast quesadilla, and the Kiko's Loco fried rice. Overall, what stood out was the fluffiness of the eggs and generous portion sizes! Ps. skip the fried rice when you go! I will personally snag the omelet of the day or the avocado toast when I visit again.
The service was really good. Our Waiter Clarence took really good care of us. Our happy hour drink (cranberry whisky sour)was really good. So was the shrimp tempura appetizer. The old bay aioli sauce really had a ton of good flavor. The only thing I would recommend would be to add some more flavor to the spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was a little runny and lacked taste.
It's a really cool interior. I'm not sure what to expect from the outside. It's kind of like it's built from a cave inside. The service was good. The food was a bit surprisingly underwhelming.
Visiting for first time at 5PM on a H-O-T weekday in August. They have probably 10 parking spots available (all were gone by 6) and indoor and outdoor seating (with umbrellas overlooking the parking lot). We had a 5:30 outdoor reservation and arrived early so sat at the bar and had some of their Happy Hour ($5 small watermelon margaritas and $22 for a small pitcher of Blackberry Plum Sangria...served about 3.5 glasses...and the $5 "snack" which was 3 bites of grilled beef (on sticks) with roasted red pepper sauce). All was very tasty and well prepared, and they had a lot of staff around that were helpful and friendly. All COVID safe and being followed by everyone we saw. The interior is nicely decorated and rustic but also really dark, kind of like a basement or pub. So, we abandoned the glorious A/C for our outdoor table which was very nice and great while the breeze was blowing through....but when it died, was like eating in a sauna with all of us mopping sweat with our napkins (darn you nature, not the restaurant's fault!). Basket of bread/ butter upon seating (one piece each). The cornmeal oysters were delicious, the old bay chips were underwhelming..........the menu in general ($17 hamburger and fries plus $2 for bacon) seems a little more standard fare and tilted toward casual and sandwiches than we were expecting. Sandwiches well prepared and nice portion with sides of tasty fries. Cookies for $3.50 and the Mocha was by far and away the best, like a moist gooey brownie cookie. Overall we had a nice dinner - probably wouldn't do outdoor again unless 80 degrees or under outside, could use a little more local or unique variety on the menu, but what they have, they prepare well.
One of the best burgers I have had. Very juicy and it was well done. I really like the mac & cheese as well. The Molasses cookie was the best! I will definitely come again to try other dishes on the menu. Thank you.
We wanted a quiet place with a cool atmosphere for dinner, so we were a little surprised with all the very loud kids that were sitting around us. The atmosphere is beautiful but the noisy kids kind of ruined our experience. I guess we assumed this was not a “kid” type of place. The food was delicious but the prices are outrageous for the portion sizes. We tried to share the chicken tortilla soup but there was barely even a cup of it for $12. We also ordered the steak tacos which were small with a little piece of steak on each one. They were really good, but again, $30 was too much for that amount of food.
Terrific establishment with lots of seafood and a great bar. We had a dinner for two and both ordered the catch of the day, which was halibut. I love when a place does not overcook fish! A little over salted, but otherwise delicious. The guacamole was fabulous, freshly made with fresh chips. The ambiance in the back room is wonderful with the original stone walls left in place, making for a cool atmosphere. Service was wonderful and atmosphere great - quiet enough to be able to carry on a conversation in the back room, although the front room near the bar may get noisy when the place is full. My friends have come here for many years and the food and service are consistently great. Highly recommend.
It was one of the yummiest steaks, the service was good and the cookies were very good as well. Nice spot to go to especially during restaurant week.
Went here with my wife and daughter. The atmosphere was very good. We ate outside. I had the fish sandwich and my wife had the friend rice. We also had the fried green tomatoes and hummus as appetizers. The appetizers were very good. Our entrees were good quality, but I probably wouldn't order again, but id like to go back and try some of the other items, especially the burger it seemed to be a restaurant favorite. The service wasnt the best, or what I thought it would be a such a nice place, but id still go back to give it another try.
I really enjoyed it. The food is good. I'd like to try some non-breakfast food. The service and people were unbelievable and it is a lovely space.
The menu was marked with items that could be made gluten-free or are already gluten-free. For non-gluten-free restaurant, the gf choices are fairly varied, with some vegetarian options as well. I chose the curry cauliflower steak; I would’ve been hard-pressed to tell you that it was curried, but otherwise it was prepared well. Luckily, there was a tasty sauce on the side. No dedicated fryer, so avoid anything fried if you need to be gluten-free.
Food was okay to me. We went for brunch after church. My wife enjoyed her Cuban sandwich. I had the shrimp quesadillas and my son had chicken sandwich. His sandwich was bland. The quesadillas were pretty good. Service was good. Not sure I would go back.
Steak was bland, but great sangria. Bisque and short ribs were good. Cookie was dry.
The quality of the food has diminished since the menu changed. I got the fish sandwich. It was bland and tasteless. The presentation was ridiculous, unless one has hands the size of Shaquille O'Neal. I had to cut the sandwich into quarters like a child. I didn't finish the meal. My son ordered the hamburger, which had to be re-cooked because it was not prepared as requested. Overall, the other members of our party were underwhelmed describing their choices as "ok", including the fish tacos, the chef's omlette and the swordfish. Drinks and service were excellent.
Second visit here- I got the tomato salad and added salmon. The salmon was good and cooked well but unfortunately the tomatoes were very cold and flavorless. You’re not supposed to refrigerate tomatoes. For it being a tomato salad the tomatoes are the focus and these were bad, mushy and flavorless. My boyfriend and I had an early dinner here on Saturday. They weren’t overly busy so there was no wait. I like the look of the place. We started with drinks. I got the brown sugar Manhattan. It was okay. It didn’t have much brown sugar flavor to me. He got the rye street which was really good. I’d get that one again. Fried oysters appetizer was pretty good. No complaints. The red wine short rib with mashed potatoes was tender but not juicy and not very flavorful. It was fine but I wouldn’t get again. The seared tuna was good but plain. We liked the sauce that came with it. I always get fries from places and these fries were fine. Not great but not the worst I’ve had. The red velvet cake wasn’t good. It was a strangely dense texture and pretty dry. The frosting was also very stiff. The cold brew float was good. They only had chocolate ice cream which was fine with me. It made it like a mocha. But it was mostly just ice cream after a couple minutes and the coffee flavor was lost. The ice cream helped us eat more of the cake though. The server was nice. No problems with the service. I think if I go back I’d try a burger. But nothing this time wowed me. Kind of wish I had tried the cookies rather than what we got for dessert. Went again to try the burger and needed somewhere open past 9. The bun was hard so I just ate the patty. They were cleaning, mopping, taking trash out, all around us at only 8:45 which was distracting. Probably won’t be back. Food isn’t worth it. Quality isn’t there. I know this part isn’t their fault but we were sat right between a loud birthday celebration and another table with a newborn. Meh.
My purchase was a carryout order. The half pound Angus Burger. It was flavorless & the brioche roll wasn't fresh. Clark Burger is a better option. The cookies were very good. The person working the register & serving the baked goods was very unpleasant. She didn't seem interested in answering questions about the baked goods. I will not spend money at an establishment where the staff are not friendly. Over rated
We got carry out for three. It was a greasy foray into less than average cuisine. The fries were almost well prepared but they were oily and slightly undercooked. The kicker was the fries had a metal shaving in them that looks like a kitchen repair was done above the food prep surface (see pic). The black bean burger was a mess…in every regard. The Pattie was not cooked enough (many of the beans seemed almost raw and the grease made it disintegrate after one bite). The sauce while palatable, was used to excess. Sorry Johnny.
Do NOT come to this lying resturaunt. I had a VERY DISAPPOINTING experience at this restaurant. When my food arrived, I found a HAIR on the plate. I immediately brought it to the waiter’s attention, who then asked the chef about it. Shockingly, instead of acknowledging the issue, the chef REFUSED to return the hair and insisted it was “MELTED CHEESE.” This response was DISMISSIVE and UNPROFESSIONAL. Regardless of whether it was hair or food, the way the situation was handled showed a COMPLETE LACK OF RESPECT for the customer. I left feeling UNHEARD and UNCOMFORTABLE, and I would NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone who values CLEANLINESS and HONESTY in dining.
