Great place, food was delicious and WOW, the icebox cake...to die for. ♥️ We had the breaded pork chop, which was a lot. Along with mashed potatoes, and the zucchini vegetable, including the gravy...all delicious. Our waitress, OG Taylor, was very sweet too. Highly recommend this place.
Country town I've seen people complain about slow service. We are in a country town, atmosphere and service...if you want fast go to SA Food is always hot, servers friendly, that matters most to me, I don't mind waiting
The food was excellent. Our server Gigi was very friendly. The music was enjoyable. I would highly recommend the carved tenderloin and/or the pecan crusted chicken, which was what we ordered-excellently prepared. We also had the French onion soup, which was delicious. Many thanks for the wonderful meal and hospitality!
The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Our server Sean took very good care of us. The Dr Pepper Burger was one of the best burgers I ever had and french fries were nice and crispy. Visit this restaurant if you can, you won't be disappointed !
My family Eats here about 3 times a year. I've read a lot of negative reviews but I've never gotten a bad meal yet. My 3 girls 10,14,17 years old loved their meals tonite.
Great burger and sweet potato fries! Service was professional and friendly. Nice view. Went back a week later and ordered a salad. Skip the salad. It was disappointing. Old tomatoes, Guacamole in lieu of avocado and canned olives on the shaved beef (over cooked) salad. Really disappointed.
We came here for Mother's Day brunch after church and the Limited menu was excellent! Don't let that stop you when they have a determined menu because they are always incredible! The desert was awesome too plus Super good salads. Esp for those of us who are gluten free! Thank you for a great service and an excellent meal for the moms today! We will definitely be back. We did go back, and again the service was excellent and the food was too. My grilled salmon w the vegetable medley, of squash and onions, was wonderful!!
Had the Jager Schnitzel, outstanding, McKenzie, my server, was sweet and took great care of me. We use to eat here all of the time several years ago, but haven't been up here in years. It felt like going home. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Did I mention the Schnitzel was great. The cabbage was perfect, the potatoes were delicious and their gravy is the best.
The food was good, I really liked my Meatloaf. The kids liked their chicken and Mac and cheese and really like their desert and my wife liked her sandwich. It was a good atmosphere. Really liked sitting on the deck. Also the service was excellent! Robert was super nice and very attentive. He did an awesome job!
HOLY COW!! Absolutely THE BEST onion rings ever!! Light, seasoned batter, sweet onions. Delicious!! Try the Dr.Pepper Burger, it sounds strange, but trust me, it is amazing!! Bbq sauce is sweet, tangy. We walked in, and rolled out we were so full! Run- do not walk!!!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I had the pepper steak and my kiddo had the chicken tenders. They were juicy and the batter was tasty and not thick. A table nearby ordered onion rings and they looked SO good. We started with the mushrooms and they were so good that we fought for the last two.
I stayed at the River Oak Inn next door and walked over to Brick's. This place is a cozy little place that serves delicious food. So glad I walked in the door.
My longtime friend and I came here today from San Antonio to celebrate her birthday. We were not disappointed! The place is super clean. It wasn't at all crowded which made us happy. David was our server and was very efficient. My friend ordered a strawberry daiquiri and I ordered a Bandera Mule. Both drinks were awesome! My friend, who is very particular about her food and drink, said it was the best daiquiri she's ever had. We both raved about the fried mushrooms appetizer. I had a chicken fried steak entree and my friend had the chicken fried ribeye. Everything was exceedingly tasty and fresh. My friend couldn't stop talking about how good the meal was all the way back to San Antonio. Thank you Brick's for making our dining experience a memorable one!
Great food and excellent service. Highly recommend if heading to Bandera or Medina. We had lunch in a Friday and even went back for breakfast on Sunday. The buffet was great as well. Catfish nuggets were delicious.
Excellent service & atmosphere! Excellent buffet, made to order scrambled eggs, bacon & loaded omelette. Gravy & biscuits very good.Passed on getting made to order pancakes. Great place!
Our first time there after hearing how great the food was, and wow! The Bulldog Burger and Chicken Fried Chicken were absolutely delicious! Our server did a really great job as well. We'll definitely be going back.
Neat place with a cool patio. Seems like a lot of regulars here and it’s probably because of the food. The boasted chicken is crunchy, moist and tender and the mashed potatoes are like mom used to make. We loved everything we had!
No long waiting. Awesome atmosphere dine inside, inclosed patio or outside patio. Food is so delicious. Mushrooms and onion rings are out of this world and their fried catfish is large breaded filet thats to die for. Its better than The Boat in Kerville. The service is fast friendly and very prompt with drinks and your meal. I only was able to give a 5 star because they didn't have a 10 star.
Update . 04.10. Mushrooms are very good!! Fish and chips , Dr. Pepper burger, chicken fry chicken were very good. Jager schnitzel was delicious. Meatloaf was very bland. Onion rings were the first layer of the onion...chewy. Jager schnitzel was overcooked and dry. food needs to have more flavor.
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Bandera. Their broasted fried chicken and sliced ribeye salad are both delicious. Great staff and always pleasant, good service too. You won't be disappointed. Oooh and their bread pudding...yummy! They serve a variety of good food to please any palate. A++++
The meals are fantastic, fish and chips and their burgers are my favorites so far. The service has always been great too. We like to sit in the lower area where we have a beautiful view, but they need to work on a very noisy a/c unit!
so delicious but sad to learn they are closing their doors on Sunday.
Without good signage, this place is a little hard to find, but it's a hidden gem. We ate an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. There were 4-6 full tables with 2 guys hustling it by themselves. Robert was our server and he couldn't have been any nicer. We had meatloaf and the schnitzel and both were very large portions. They have a good variety of sides as well. All in all, great experience. The cost was about what you'd expect and in line with the high prices everywhere else. We will definitely be back!
Good food, great service and the best sweet tea!!! Cute and quiet I would definitely recommend if you want a quiet peaceful meal stop here!!
Our first time here, our server Robert took care of us like he knew us, was very kind and attentive to our needs . We’re always looking for local family owned restaurants, somewhere where you walk in and they make you feel at home, this was that kind of place. Robert recommended the broasted fried chicken which my husband had and he gave it a thumbs up I had the grilled catfish which was amazing, not overcooked. We will have to come back for their breakfast buffet. Thanks, Robert, you’re making a difference.
WOW! Sean or Shawn (not sure how it's spelt) Gave us a wonderful experience. He was a great waiter with a lot of knowledge and gave superb service. I plan on coming back next year and year next hopefully for the rest of my life in fair part thanks to him. The FOOD was excellent, flavorful, and came out fast(we had the fried chicken with green beans and mashed potato along with the Dr.Pepper Burger) Give that guy Sean a RAISE! His wonderful service along with the food has earned this place a couple of loyal customers. Excellently ran restaurant.
This place is definitely a hidden gem. The view from the pet-friendly patio deck is beautiful. Great food, drinks, and service! We will be back.
I would give this visit 6 stars, but I guess I can only do 5. Our food was delicious, Brittney was an amazing server, and we enjoyed everything about this visit. The last week and a half I've been taking my friend all over town and this has been the best food AND THE BEST SERVICE by far! The onion rings are so delicious and dessert was worth every calorie! Thoroughly enjoyed this experience!
THIS IS A HIDDEN GEM OF BANDERA The food is amazing and if you get lunch on a Saturday it’s not busy at all! I can not tell you how good this meal has been. Eat here
Been here twice and havent been disappointed yet. Both times we had an amazing server, Susan, who is so kind and very good at her job. Both times my food has been great. I'll have to admit at first I was a little embarrased ordering the "Dr.Pepper Cowboy Burger" but I then proceeded to lick my plate clean. The inside atmosphere is a little drab, but the outside porch is beautiful.
Really good Texas style home cooking. The flavors were very good, the food was very fresh and well prepared, the service was excellent.
My server was attentive and friendly. I didn't wait long to be served. Food and lemonade didn't take long to receive either. I loved the lemonade. It was a great balance of tartness and sweetness and tasted real unlike the fountain drink, prepackaged, or powder mix options that are common. The Texas smashed potatoes were good, and I liked the meatloaf too. The chips and queso were excellent. This is a great place to get food after a hike at one of the state parks that are beyond Bandera. There's a beautiful river behind the restaurant with limited outdoor seating.
Excellent local food and atmosphere. On busy hours be patient, don't hurry. We had great time.
This was such a nice find. We got to eat outside overlooking the river in the back end and we sat right under a fan which was such a nice breeze. When it got dark and the night cooled our waiter was super helpful and turned it down. The food was yummy and the portions were generous.
The food was great! My husband had the jägerschnitzel and I had the chicken fried chicken. Portion sizes are large. It was nice and quiet even though they had a good crowd. The view was very nice as well. Nice staff. We’ll definitely be back!
Robert H is an amazing waiter! Very friendly and professional! I had the BLT , my husband had the dr pepper burger. Food was so delicious!
Beautiful small town cafe in the heart of Bandera. Robert, our server, was so super awesome! Our family and I thought he was a highlight! Food was decent but nothing amazing. Atmosphere was bright and inviting. We will most likely return to try more grub! :)
June 1, 2025. Brick's River Cafe has a really good cook and the ingredients are fresh. The Dyanamite Shrimp appetizer was fresh and yummy. 2 of us had the thick, fork tender, chicken fried steak and the batter was awesome to the very end. My wife liked her Jager pork schnitzel plate. I recommend this restaurant. * Do not be in a rush. This restaurant is tricky to find as it hides behind the River Oak Inn (motel). Parking is shared with the motel guests. The outside looks unassuming until you get inside and turns fun and appealing with good space.
Great food, friendly service and atmosphere. Chicken was so full of flavor -- best we've had in years! Our new favorite place, we'll be back!!
First off the service was awesome. The waiter was very friendly and well mannered. The food was great and the thing that stood out to me was that they knew their regulars and what they wanted as soon as they walked In and now a days its hard to find that. I hope to return soon.
(This is an updated version of my review) We went a little after 12 and it was not busy at all. We ordered the potato skins ( photo below) and it was delicious there was 6 of them but I forgot to take a photo of that and only have the one. I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was the the best pulled pork I have ever had ( as long as I remember). I got shoestring fries and mac and cheese with the pulled pork, there were really tasty. Three members of my party got the buffet (does not happen all the time and photo below) and they said it was really good. The second time they went back some of the chicken was a little undercooked but we hold them and they quickly fixed it. The buffet consisted of chicken, corn, mashed potatoes, green beans and gravy. My sister got the cheeseburger (kids cheeseburger)she said it was really good but was smaller than she would have liked. She got ice cream after it was vanilla and it was really good. I got pictures of the menu and the sweet tea was tasty not crazy sweet. The waiter was mostly on top of the drinks and he was nice. The bathrooms are a little small but they are clean. It can get a little busy here but it is worth it, I recommend coming here.
Good hometown American food. My wife ordered chicken fried steak with some cabbage that was very delicious. I ordered a Dr pepper barbecue burger and the Dr pepper barbecue sauce was amazing. They do sell a full bar and beer they don't have any signature drinks. You can walk behind the restaurant down a path into an open field right by the river.
Country cooking with a view. The food was delicious and although I ordered the half order of chicken fried chicken, it was a very generous portion. My husband ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was huge. Loved the view from the enclosed patio!! Christine our waitress was very sweet.. We will be back.
Had a wonderful lunch on our way back from a drive through the Hill Country. We had the Gulf grilled shrimp and Greek Salad...both were good dishes. Our server Rob was awesome! Nothing to complain about. Server recommended we take a walk to the river which we were so happy we did. Check out our beautiful pics! 😋😋😋😋 Yummy faces!
The staff and food here is amazing! for it being an older place it's been fairly maintained. Unfortunately the bathrooms always seem to be a little too dirty for my taste. other than that it's an overall wonderful experience. Plus not to mention the German dishes are fantastic! Don't forget to ask for a little extra white vinegar to go on your cabbage, it makes it the absolute best! Enjoy!
Very nice patio venue. Prompt and Texas friendly service. Our chicken salad sandwiches were very good, with the homemade potato chips. I haven't had chips like that before and the spice on them was excellent. The bread used for the sandwich was special. Go there! Cheers
I wish I would have taken a picture of my plate but I was to hungry and forgot. This place sits behind one of the hotels but is right on the river. Locally owned and very homie feel. The beer was ice cold and I had to try one of the new items on their menu. I tried their Tenderloin Sandwich and it was delicious the seasoning was amazing and was cooked just how I wanted it medium rare. Highly recommend this place.
Great service! We had the Pork Schnitzel and the Grilled Dr Pepper Chicken Breast. Food was good, could have been great but the sauce on top of the pork schnitzel had too much alcohol taste in it. Prices are very good. We will definitely be returning to try out their burgers.
We are staying next door and decided to try the food. Home cook good food! Very nice service everyone seemed friendly.
Came in for dinner and we were seated immediately on a weekday night. Lots of variety on this menu, with healthy portions all around. Good wine and beer list with a full bar and some interesting cocktail options. Onion rings were the best I've had in a while, very large, hot, and crunchy! I had the steak sandwich with the side salad and left very full with some leftovers to take home. Great meal!
Stopped in for a cool one while perusing Kerrville on an RV camping trip. Ordered lightly, but still was good food. Would visit again. Cutely decorated for fall & Halloween.
Bricks is fantastic. My husband and I went before the dinner rush this past Saturday and the view was terrific and the waitress we had was delightful! We only had burgers but they seemed to be one of the beat dang burgers we ever had. Absolutely delicious so much so that I figure the rest of the food they offer is amazingly tasty. Give them a try I'm almost 💯 positive you won't regret it!!
Food/portion size was plentiful. Waitress was friendly and customer oriented, but it took a while to receive the meal, and there were not many guests. Onion ring appetizer was a big surprise - huge portion, enough for 5 -6 people.
Like other reviewers - I find the prices too high in relation to the food. I ordered the fish and chips. When my order came without the chips I asked where were they? "Oh" they said "it comes with two sides and you didn't request french fries." I found it very strange that a place that would serve fish and chips wouldn't know what that meant. Updating this seven year-old review. Bricks River Café is still one of our favorite places to go as the food is very good in the service is also very attentive. We noticed the last time we went in the menu selection was greatly reduced. But what there is on the menu is still very delicious.
A great restaurant hidden behind a motel. The food is what you would expect at a Bandera diner. I had the chicken fingers, they were good, my wife had a burger that was decent (the bread was excellent) one son had a chopped steak he enjoyed and the youngin had the grilled cheese which he loved. The service was excellent and the people are super friendly. I would recommend coming again.
Brick's, under normal circumstances, has a huge and very diverse menu. Although it has been a bit truncated due to Covid, they still offer a wide variety of selections. Onion rings were very good, thick sliced and fried with a light batter. The liver and onions was tasty, gravy was rich and full of flavor, could have used a few more grilled onions, but not a deal breaker. The fried okra was Great !! Very fresh, lightly battered, and cooked perfectly. The coleslaw was also very good, fresh with just the right amount of dressing. Some of the best sweet tea with plenty of ice in a quart Mason jar.
The food was okay, I had meatloaf, it was really thick and good, and mash potatoes were yummy. The rest of the family had Jägerschnitzel. The sauce was a little too thick but okay. I do get that they are short staffed, and we weren't upset about anything, but it would have been nice to get a refill on our drinks The bathrooms were both out of paper towels, and the floors were gross. We are always willing to go back and try again, my Opa does like going there. Our waitress was sweet just a little overwhelmed.
Super nice location and good food. Would definitely recommend
Live music on the Saturday night we went. House wine was $4 glass!!! My fried gulf shrimp plate—shrimp were huge and cooked to perfection. Coleslaw very sweet. Okra was ok. Grilled catfish seemed broiled or steamed under a flattop. But, seasoned well. Green beans tasted like precut frozen. Mixed vegetables were ok. Our server has honest, friendly and helpful. However, it was still a longer wait for our food than we’re used to—and seemed even longer with annoying gnats flying around.
I had the Southern chicken with mashed potatoes. It was good. Mom had the broasted chicken with mashed potatoes. She really enjoyed it. My girlfriend had the hamburger with sweet potato fries. She said that it was good.
Our visit is a tale of 2 experiences. Our first 20 minutes was a definite 0 star. Beautiful afternoon to sit out the deck overlooking the ravine and river. We were on the deck with 3 other tables being serviced, however, TWO waiters completely ignored my family and I as we patiently waited to be acknowledged and waited on. Never happened. Even when the patrons at the three tables left, we sat out on the deck alone and nobody ever came back out. I say it was 20 minutes, my spouse says 30, that we patiently waited. I walked inside and talked to Daniel, the first waiter I saw, to order some drinks. Daniel was awesome and saved the day for us. Turned an awful experience into a satisfactory one. He took care of us from then on and gave us the attention and courtesy anyone would expect at a restaurant. The food was delicious and also a savior which was the reason we went to Brick's in the first place. Home cooked fried chicken and chicken fried steak were moist and flavorful. Smashed potatoes are a must try! Fried pickles and their jalapeño ranch are a great appetizer. Kids had grilled cheese and chicken tenders which they devoured. In Brick's defense, they are short on wait staff and are overwhelmed. However, a simple acknowledgment from the wait staff would've sufficed. Completely ignoring a patiently waiting family of 4 is never acceptable. The manager spoke with us and apologized for the lapse in service which we appreciated. I would return because Daniel was awesome and the food was delicious.
Not the best we’ve tasted, but definitely still unique and has wonderful food! Overlooking Medina River, the restaurant is decorated nicely and with a nice view. The wait staff is quick, kind, and reads minds. The food portions were large and prepared well, and the gravy was the prime topping to the entrees. It’s hidden behind a motel and is a fantastic place to stop on by when passing through Bandera.
We Used to go here often, but the service has gotten bad so we don't go much anymore... Their Shaved meat salad is one of my go to, but the last 3 times we went was more than an hour waiting for our food with the restaurant having barely anyone there (we were 1 of 5 tables in the whole restaurant) The cook burnt some of our tables food this time, we never got our appetizer, the poor waitress had to keep going back for stuff the cook forgot (and Yes, it was on our ticket)... It was a MESS, so we took what we Did get and left...
This place used to be a really good place to eat but lately it has not been so good. They have taken items off the menu that were popular like their taco salad which was amazing. I got take out the other day and the food was not great. The chopped steak was tough and it really upset my stomach afterwards. I hope they get this place turned back around because it was a really nice place to go and relax.
I ordered dessert take out. The icebox pie was very good. Beautiful views from the dining room.
1st visit 06-19-21 Service was excellent 5 star unfortunately the food Chicken Casorole "The Days Special" wasn't all that to me, wasn't bad, but tasted bland, and missing "something" other than that I would probably return again and order something different. Thank You for taking time to read this review, Please give me a Thumbs Up, and Follow Me on my Google Reviews.
Cool little spot that welcome dogs on the patio. Staff was super sweet and personable. BEST fried pickles I've in a long time, and best glass of ice md tea. The chicken sandwich was pretty darn good but Unfortunately, my daughter got food poisoning and was sick the rest of the day and that night. We're pretty sure it was the ketchup. We even commented to staff, but it was too late.
I'll start with the good part! The service was great and the atmosphere was amazing. They are located a little ways off of the mainstream where a lot of shops are located and you can get a nice quiet river view dining experience. Amazing. I love chicken fried steak but it wasnt done properly. The steak inside had zero work done to tenderize it and came out like a hockey puck. The breading was soggy and peeled off the steak like wet paper that disintegrated. Next time, Hit that steak flat with the tenderizer, score it, pat dry, then hit with the seasoned flour and buttermilk! Coleslaw was old and mushy. The saving grace was the mashed potatoes. That was good. Go else where if you are looking for chicken fried steak.
We haven't been there since 2012 and we really enjoyed it then. However this time we were a little taken back with the lack of upkeep or maintenance on the building. I can understand trying to recover from a rush, but what we saw didn't happen overnight. Kind of makes you wonder what is going on in the kitchen. Service was okay, took a little longer than expected to be served. Hamburger was good, but kind of over sour dough buns. Too bad they didn't offer a substitute.
Stopped here about 7:30 after arriving in town. Had very high hopes for this place but was thoroughly disappointed. Ordered chips and queso for an appetizer. It arrived with a bowl of mostly chip crumbs. Waitress said she dropped the bag of chips. We were polite and made do with what we had. However, we ran out of chips with half a bowl to go. We asked for some more and the waitress came back to say there were no more chips available. So we wasted half a bowl because we had nothing else to eat it with. Chicken fried steak was a little tough and the mashed potatoes with gravy were room temperature and not enjoyable to eat at all. The waitress went long stretches without being seen around our table so my daughter ran out of water. The manager never checked to see how we were doing despite walking by several times. There were a couple of positives. The water glasses are large Mason jars, good bar selection and the wrap was good. Would definitely check out other options in town next time.
Where to start.....🤔 I'll just dive right in to the waiter bringing our drink order and then in a hurry saying, "just to let you know, the foods gonna take 45 min to an hour to come out." We weren't about to get up and leave after already waiting for our drinks so we stayed and ordered. So off the bat they're OUT OF LEMONADE. My daughter ordered mac n cheese, they're OUT OF MAC N CHEESE . After about 30 min, waiter comes out and says we're OUT OF SHRIMP, we only have enough for one order - we had two orders. Last but not least, my wife told staff the ladies bathroom was OUT OF SOAP, and they said they'd get to it. After the meal they WERE STILL OUT OF HAND SOAP IN THE RESTROOM. She went back out and asked again and they brought her a pump bottle that had about a 1/4" of soap in it and said, SORRY, THAT'S ALL WE GOT, WE'RE OUT OF SOAP. 😵 We were OUT OF LUCK! The Food: My chicken fried backstrap was good and well portioned, fries & green beans, ok. My poor wife's fried fish and chips plate looked pathetic! (See pic below) That's exactly how they brought it out. Looks like they were running OUT OF FRIES! Batter was crispy, fish mushy. The "KIDS CHEESE BURGER" is ONE slider with shoestring fries. My 7 year old just gasped as she, and the whole table laughed at the size of it, including the waiter. The Broasted Fried chicken my bud ordered looked and tasted good according to him. I did get a laugh that they hollowed out a crater in his mashed potatoes only to leave it empty 🤔 The Gulf Shrimp were large and looked tasty. Big burrger looked good and got a thumbs up but the chicken fried steak was apparently undercooked and chewy. Last but not least, THEY WERE OUT OF ICE CREAM that came w kids meal but made up for it w some cake dessert from the fridge - thank you. Don't know what was going on this day, but I don't want to come back to find out. It's a shame, too. It's a great location on the Medina River but too bad they can't capitalize on it. NO SOAP FOR YOUR RESTROOMS??? REALLY???? 🤢 HOPE YOU'RE SAVING IT ALL FOR THE KITCHEN? Do better.
This was a terrible experience. We waited over 2 hours for food and when we finally got it part of the party had good food and some of the party’s food wasn’t cooked all the way through. Our waitress disappeared for a long period of time and we became aware over time that our waitress was being the cook, waitress, bartender and cashier…I understand places are hurting for help but when you sit in a restaurant for 2 hours only to watch party after party come in and get their food eat and leave before you can even get a refill on your drinks…I have to say I will not be back or recommend anyone else to experience this place either. Enter at your own risk!
If I could give it 0 I would, ordered some fried pickles and the batter was extremely salty & overly greasy to the point where I took all the batter out & simply just ate the pickles! The coffee tasted like it had been steeped with an old gym sock for a about a month or so & the egg rolls were just as bad 🤦🏻♀️😂! The only real good thing was the water with the lemon 🍋 wedge 🙄😒!
Chicken fried steak tasted like it had been cooked days before. Cold and tasteless. Shame price was high. 8 of us and took forever to get food. Shame on Bricks. No pride. Other table after people left the table was left dirty and never cleaned.
