This is such a simple, classy, and warm restaurant. It was the perfect place for my birthday dinner this year! Oh...and if you have 4+ guests, your dinner is FREE🥰😍! The cook was very friendly and entertaining to watch! The food is served hot, fresh, and delicious as always❤️❤️.
Excellent restaurant overall. Great food, hibachi chef, prices and views. staff working hard to create a fantastic experience . Great birthday deal. Will definitely return!
Our favorite place to go! Best dish is the korean bbq wagyu and lobster. All the chefs there are amazing and food is cooked to perfection. Notes: New York Steak is better than the Filet even though it's better cut. Their pina colada is the BEST! Cherry Pie Pinot Noir is good even for people that don't like wine. Don't forget to join the rewards club.
Brought my wife and our family out for their birthday dinner. My 12 year old got the shrimp and lobster, my 17 year aged sirloin, my wife had the lobster and filet, and I had the wagyu and shrimp. Food was incredible, even my 12 year cleaned his plate! Service was impeccable! The show was very entertaining and everyone was flat out kind. Atmosphere is rich and inviting. I loved it.
Had a great time at Hana Japan in Berkeley! The chef was entertaining, and we ate a lot—the special Wagyu and shrimp were amazing, with miso soup, salad, and rice (fried rice is extra but so good). The calamari and tempura appetizers were tasty, and the draft beer was refreshing. After all that food, we were able to take a nice walk by the bay—perfect ending to the evening! It’s popular, so do make reservations.
My wife and I are here yesterday. The food was delicious. I ordered Filet Mignon and Salmon with shrimp fried rice and my wife ordered the Waygu Korean BBQ and Shrimp with shrimp fried rice. Everything was amazingly good. Our chef Wilfredo (I think that is his name).. was super entertaining. Overall, we are definitely making this our new hibachi fav spot.
This was my 1st time here and I was not disappointed. I am not sure why the google ratings are so low, but my experience was great. Michael L. was amazing and made me feel like a local. As someone who travel and is in multiple cities each week I really appreciate a place that makes me feel welcome. I WILL DEFINITELY COME BACK HERE NEXT TIME IN TOWN!!
While in town for work my coworker and I were looking for a nice dinner that was close by our hotel. This place fit the bill nicely! I had the combo teppanyaki aged ribeye and salmon. The portions were good sized and the flavor was spot on! They also made an excellent custom Martini for me that was excellent! Overall this place was a great experience and is highly recommended!
The chef makes this experience totally worth it. The food I have found is much better dining in. My previous to go order was nothing to write home about. I got shrimp and dry aged ribeye. I should've just gotten a regular one. Maybe it would've been more tender. But otherwise great food and the chef was very entertaining. Makes a great date night. However if you can't fill the table you will be sitting with strangers. And be ready to spend at the very least $100 if you're a couple. Remember at the very least 😉so bring more lol. Most people were dressed casually so if you'd like to be fancy, it's totally up to you.
As you can see from my photos, dinner at Hana Japan Steak and Seafood is an experience. All the food is cooked on the hibachi at your table. The chef is skilled with his knives and makes a wonderful, often humorous show as he prepares your food. Tables seat 8 to 12 or more. Miso soup and a small Japanese salad are included with dinner. A person having a birthday gets a free meal if seated in a party of four or more. I went to this restaurant with my husband and another couple. A family of four who were having a birthday sat at our table and proved to be charming table mates. Our steak was prepared to perfection and we liked our choice of rice and vegetables. The bar provided excellent alcoholic beverages. The waitstaff was lovely. The downsides of this restaurant are: 1. I wish the restaurant served a scoop of green tea ice cream to close the meal, but they don't. The only dessert option was a frozen macaroon cookie. 2. The restaurant is not really conducive to conversation. Other tables with larger parties decided to try to talk to someone at the opposite end of the table while others continue to speak over each other. 3. The carpeting and overall feeling of the restaurant is shabby and does not spark joy. 4. The restroom could use an upgrade or at the very least a deep cleaning.
We come here for most celebrations. At one point when I use to watch the games the bar is a great spot. Made reservations over the phone a day before, you can also book reservations online. Checking in you must have all party members present. Once confirmed it determines when you’re seated. Cristie was our server and Tenzin was our chef. Tenzin is naturally funny and kept us laughing as he prepped our meal. I splurged and ordered the lobster / shrimp combo without rice. The others ordered chicken or shrimp with the fried rice. If you have a food allergy they really do cater to your needs. The meal comes with soup and salad. And for your birthday, come within five days of your birthday, show them your ID and you receive ten percent off your meal plus a slice of green tea cake. Service was awesome. The continued to make rounds to refill water or ask if there was anything else needed. 10/10 it’s a no fail dining experience. Parking lot also has security cams.
Horrible service!!! The waiter only showed up to take the order after that didn't show up again to offer a refill or see if we need anything else at the end they tried to over charge me about 100 bucks more.
Came here for my kid's birthday. We had a group of 10. We all had to pick the same meal. We were seated at a table that had a pole blocking the view directly infront of that seat so you had to slide either right or left to view anything other than the pole. Our food was over cooked during the cooking he went to grab the rice off his cart & he had none he walked to the kitchen to get some leaving the eggs to burn. Instead of making new eggs that weren't burnt he just mixed them with the rice. My brother asked for extra garlic butter he said he didn't have any. Definitely not worth the $700 we spent. We like the Fairfield location but won't go back to this one.
I typically frequent this place and will likely never again. It’s really gone downhill. It’s somehow staffed yet extremely disorganized. My partner and I got a table with a reservation. It took them several times to find it. The waiter seemed flustered and admittingly rushed us for food orders and then THE WAITER NEVER CAME BACK. (2) people sitting next to us expressed their frustration left the table and never returned. More than halfway through the meal. Everyone wanted water and no service at all in sight. As a customer, I had to run to the bar to put in requests for water and they couldn’t find the waiter. The bartenders were great. They tried to track down the missing waiter. They knew something was wrong and tried to correct it. Eventually they gave us some bottles of refilled water at the end of our meals and everyone at the table chucked saying “I guess we’re serving ourselves…”. This was an embarrassing and disappointing experience not only for the restaurant but also the customers. A great way to spend valentine’s day. Upon receiving the bill I noticed they had removed a service charge of +20%. This sounds reasonable right?? I mean, I get it - situations happen. The waiter finally returned and mentioned she “Forgot to add the service charge” and brought me another bill. I can’t make this up. Would you pay +20% for an undisclosed service charge with no service. I get hiking prices for Valentine’s day, but not having sufficient staffing or sneaking in a “Mandatory +20% service charge” and failing to provide basic service just seems VERY SCAMMY. The Menu prices also reflected the non-negotiable or advertised add-ons (i.e - complimentary glass, rose, glass of champagne). The staff didn’t seem happy about handing these out. More like frustrated they had to do the task. Really was an awkward experience. As a customer it feels like the staff are taking out their issues with the restaurant policy on the customer.
Even after a week I couldn’t shake the disappointment of I felt after recommending this restaurant. I picked up 4 meals at almost $200 and drove 15 miles to deliver the Hibachi delicacy that I had experienced for nearly 20 years. We were celebrating a woman nearing her 100th birthday and wanted to share the meal that 4 generations of my family had enjoyed. Regretfully, the 4 meals that I delivered were of lesser quality than frozen TV Dinners. A glob of white mushy rice, charred vegetables of sort and a mixture precooked meat and onions that were definitely not made to order: nothing else. I even had to pay extra for a 1/2 cup of fried rice because the Hibachi meals ordered to go don’t include fried rice, salad, and soup like the in-person meal. I felt sick and ashamed that our celebration culminated around $50 TV Dinners and because I called it in and picked it up, this review is my only recourse. So if you are considering Hana Japan, you might want to see your food before ordering. Apparently their food is considerably different than it has been, but the elevator and floors still have the same unclean stench.
I took my mom out for her birthday, and unfortunately the experience was awful. We arrived at 5:30 PM and did not leave until after 9:00 PM due to extremely poor service. Our waitress was unprofessional and inattentive, barely checking on our table throughout the entire evening. She also messed up my order and incorrectly added over $30 worth of items to my bill that I did not order. When I tried to ask her about the charges, she walked away while yelling instead of addressing the issue. This experience completely ruined what was supposed to be a special celebration for my mom. Because of the unacceptable service and lack of professionalism, I will never eat here again.
The cook was Alex who needs a lesson. every time he cut a steak he added about a half stick of butter. So by the time it was time for him to cut my steak and cook it the whole cooktop was soaking in about three sticks of butter. Absolutely disgusting. Then he goes about and cooks all the vegetables in this huge amount of butter. I could not even eat my food. It was soaked in greece. the previous times I have been here in 2020 and 2019 the food was good and healthy. I will not be going back here anytime soon
