It was such a treat to stumble across this place for breakfast! My husband and I were visiting the Monterey/Big Sur/Carmel-by-the-Sea area from out of town and we originally were planning on going to Big Sur Bakery (unfortunately it had been burned down in a fire and weren't able to go). We had just done the drive over the Bixby Bridge and were looking for a place to have breakfast. We were so glad that we ended up at Cafe Kevah! We ordered our breakfast/coffee drinks at the register then picked a table to sit at. The view is just stunning, it didn't feel real. The food was good and the bacon was perfectly crispy. We enjoyed watching a local bird bounce around on the fence and the coffee drinks were perfect.
This is a " SPARKLING GEM" in Big Sir for breakfast! We are so happy to find this unique place nestled in redwoods and pines. The Phoenix gift shop is below it,and a full serve restaurant crowns it up above. A driveway leads up from the road for your vehicle to park while you dine. It's breathtaking views from their deck perched high over Big Sir offers great viewing and photo opps. The food is absolutely "OUTSTANDING" prepared with love and appealing to the eye. My tastebuds said YES to the flavor of everything I devoured. A special thanks to two outstanding ambassadors of friendliness and proffesionalism. We were greeted and served by Jose and his wife Martha who have been longtime staff here. They MADE OUR DAY. Try it!!! Youll like it !!!!!
Come to Café Kaveh for the view and stay for good food. Perched high above the rugged coastline of Big Sur, Café Kaveh offers an idyllic sanctuary where nature’s grandeur meets human comfort. The outdoor terrace, framed by rust-colored railings, provides a stunning panoramic view of the deep blue Pacific Ocean stretching endlessly towards the horizon, mingling with the lush, green mountains that cascade down to the sea. Under the shade of broad white umbrellas, colorful chairs surround rustic wooden tables, inviting guests to relax and savor solid coffee and enjoyable food. Amid this serene setting, you are likely to see vibrant blue jays hopping from table to table, curiously pecking at crumbs left behind, adding a touch of whimsy to the tranquil scene. The crisp ocean breeze mingles with the rich aroma of fresh coffee, creating an atmosphere of peaceful indulgence and natural beauty.
It's along a long stretch of road with no service and no restaurants, and it is a beacon of nourishment/rest and great views. Had the pastrami panini and hot spiced apple cider. Enjoyed the panini very much. It was loaded with juicy pastrami and cheese, served with a salad. It was tasty and not overly salty. The hot spiced apple cider tasted more like hot spiced orange cider as there was quite a lot of orange added into the cider. It was still tasty and interesting. #localguides
Amazing views, food, staff, coffee, breakfast burrito, hot sauce…I can go on and on!
Cafe Kevah is the Cafe attached to Nepenthe. If you've been to Big Sur before you know you will pay a premium no matter where you eat. We had eaten the day prior at River Inn and were incredibly disappointed with the service and food for the price point. Cafe Kevah was the opposite. The staff was incredibly friendly. The food, while still paying a premium, was fresh, well prepared, and appealingly plated. We ordered the classic eggs benedict, mixed berry cheese pastry, side of bacon, oj and cappuccino. The benedict and home fries were delicious. The side of fresh oranges and ample grapes were a nice touch. The pastry was large and fresh. Cappuccinos were great. For $7, we had hoped the oj would be fresh squeezed, but didn't seem to be. Ultimately though you don't go here for the food. You go here for the view. THE VIEW!! Go here for the view. Did I mention the view? If you are in Big Sur this is a must stop.
Favorite place to stop & eat along the Big Sur highway. Amazing views, friendly staff, and great food. Of course it is a bit pricey, but you’re paying for the views & most places along the highway are pricey. The food is great quality. The breakfast burrito is the best one I’ve ever had. A great portion served with sour cream, salsa, and fresh fruit. The iced coffee is perfect & is bottomless (plus they’ll give you a to-go cup when you’re getting ready to leave for more iced coffee!). Great music always on the patio too. Love it at Cafe Kevah!!!!
Cafe Kevah was a fantastic stop, especially traveling with a two-year-old. Despite being a self-order setup, the service was genuinely warm and attentive. Staff were patient, friendly, and made the experience feel relaxed rather than transactional. Food was better than expected for a scenic brunch spot. I had the breakfast burrito, which was hearty and well done, along with a pastry that was fresh and satisfying. Espresso coffee was solid too, which is always appreciated in a remote location. And of course, the view is spectacular. Sitting out there with coffee, good food, and a calm toddler felt like a real moment rather than a rushed pit stop. One of the rare Highway 1 stops that manages to be scenic, family-friendly, and actually delivers on food quality. Would absolutely return.
After touring Big Surf all morning this is a great stop to have a late breakfast and coffee. The parking lot wasn’t busy in late October and we grabbed a nice table with umbrellas and a beautiful view. The food as good, not great and bit pricey as expected. The staff seem very friendly and fast. Almost a must stop for chilling and the view.
The view is simply breathtaking. Honestly the food could be half as good and I’d continue coming here, but if you do stop by for breakfast the burrito is fantastic. It’s simply a magical place and it feels like the people who work here know it. I just can’t wait for the PCH to eventually open back up to make getting here easier. It’s been too long!
A superb place to stop on Highway 1. The sandwiches and drinks are very good and well served. But what makes this place special is the incredible view of the Pacific Ocean. There may be a bit of a wait during tourist season, but the place is so pleasant that it's not a problem.
This establishment is not only beautiful, with an ocean view, it's food, beverage, and outstanding customer services, is hard to beat! This is a "must go to again and again" on my list!
Amazing views and reasonably good food with no wait time, unlike the famous Nepenthe upstairs. The views are actually pretty similar so it is a decent compromise, as you only lose the number of food and drink options for the 30-45 minute wait time. All the sandwiches are decently sized and come with a salad which is quite nice. They also have nice muffins, cookies, a breakfast menu and friendly staff. The restroom is downstairs in the gift shop.
Staff were great, ordered food and they brought to table and bussed it when we left. I got the Brioche French Toast w fruit compote, and my Mom got the breakfast burrito. The FT was pretty good, personally I think it needed more butter it felt a little dry but still yummy. The salsa was fresh and great with the burrito which my Mom loved. I got a Cafe Mocha and it tasted perfect. We came because I wanted to see the amazing views of the ocean, buy unfortunately the marine layer had other plans. The trees and other plants and flowers add to the beauty, so peaceful. We loved it. There is also a gift shop that opens at 10:30.
Great views, service and food. Truly worth checkouting out when in Big Sur..
Cobb Salad and a View! The view was amazing and there was no wait here as opposed to a 20 min wait at Nepenthe. There is no table service with a waitress but you order at the counter and they bring you your food. The Cobb Salad was HUGE and big enough for 2 people. I ordered some sourdough toast to go with the salad. This was a great stop.
What a treat! We randomly pulled over while driving Big Sur and stopped here. We both ordered sandwiches. When we saw giant, fresh vibrant salads going out we immediately wished we'd ordered those and were more than delighted to discover the fabulous sandwiches also came with salads. Nice view.
I came here during my visit to Big Sur and it is a MUST. I saw somebody mention their cappuccino wasn’t good and I disagree. I thoroughly enjoyed my americano that I got and the breakfast burrito was massive and very good. You will not be disappointed if you come here!
This place is truly beautiful. If you want to get a good seat you better come early. We arrived just before they opened and managed to snag a great table with a view, but within 20 minutes the place was full. The food is great and if you are lucky enough to get one of their cinnamon rolls, you will be delighted! They are freshly baked on site and so delicious!
This place is adorable! Open with lots of room, gorgeous views and the landscaping on the grounds is breathtaking. I love all the beautiful plants and the way they’re arranged. The breakfast burrito is sooo good! The French toast and coffee was delicious too but the burrito was everyone’s favorite. We came in May, no wait walked right in.
When nature and good people get together, only amazing things can come out! First off, the view from Cafe Kevah is worth a stop. It is gorgeous and offers panoramic scenery of the surrounding ocean and mountains. What puts the cherry on top of the cake are the beverages and the staff! The delicious apple cider that I ordered was garnished with fresh orange, with a sprinkle of lemon zest and infused with mouthwatering spices. I have never had an apple cider of this superb quality in America! While waiting for my drink, I had a lovely conversation with the nice gentleman there. He was very knowledgable about the fantastic history of the cafe and told me how the staff treasures and preserves the ideals on which the place was founded on. Everyone is welcome here and you can stay as long as you like to enjoy the breathtaking view. There is also a restaurant next to the cafe if you're craving a heavier meal, but do NOT leave without stopping by Cafe Kevah! It is well worth it. The entire facility is very clean, well taken care of, and in a rustic style. There were also locals and tourists enjoying the pleasant atmosphere. I look forward to coming back!
Absolutely beautiful place to grab breakfast while you're traveling on the PCH. This was probably the most scenic restaurant I've ever eaten at. You done on top of a hillside with the Pacific Ocean behind you while you have the forest in front. Birds are chirping, there's no cell reception so you have to just take in the views and enjoy the atmosphere. Food was solid but the ambiance is the main attraction. Would recommend everyone who is traveling through the PCH to stop by here to dine.

Got there early to enjoy breakfast in the terrace. You order at the counter. We had some granola breakfast bowls and coffee with a pastry (bear claw). All good although this was our first try of a Bear Claw and it was a little sickly sweet It’s a lovely terrace to watch the sea and the birds. We saw a bluejay and a woodpecker on the railings waiting for food scraps. Afterwards we popped upstairs to Nepenthe to use the rest rooms and enjoy the views form the terrace up there too. Finally visit the gift shop for the inevitable list of expensive wooden sculptures and ethnic weaving that we don’t need. By this time the car park was heaving and cars were waiting to pounce on any one walking towards their parked car. Fair prices. A little high but the views make it worth the trip.
We visited this place for coffee.. it was good, but it could have been a little hotter. The location is excellent and the sea view from the deck is absolutely stunning.
Beautiful view. There's a restaurant a view steps higher, this is a cafe and they have some small snacks. The employees were a bit grumpy, that was weird. I had hot cider but it was cold Apple juice, a bit weird. I think next time I'd prefer going to the restaurant or maybe I would bring food and drinks and go somewhere else. It's not the best spot along highway 1.
Cafe Kevah in Big Sur has an amazing and breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding area. We stopped in to have small plates to eat to tie us over until late lunch back in San Francisco. Cafe is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean in every direction. It has plenty of outdoor seating, first come, first serve, and a great spot to have an outdoor meal while taking in the beautiful and peaceful scenery. Loved seeing the blue jays flying over us. Our food was overpriced but surprisingly well prepared and the view made up for it. After our lovely snacks, we went to the Phoenix gift shop on the lower level and picked up some small gift items. We even went to the top level to check out Nepenthe but the premium pricing discouraged us to dine there. We will definitely visit Cafe Kevin next time we are in Big Sur area.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cafe Kevah is an absolute gem in Big Sur! The location is breathtaking, with stunning views of the coastline that make it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and it feels like a peaceful retreat away from the busy world. The food and drinks are just as amazing as the view! The pastries are fresh and delicious, and the coffee is rich and flavorful – definitely some of the best I’ve had along the coast. Their breakfast options are fantastic, especially if you enjoy a hearty meal to start your day. The staff is warm and friendly, making you feel welcome the moment you arrive. They are quick, attentive, and genuinely care about giving you a great experience. If you’re visiting Big Sur, Cafe Kevah is a must-stop. Whether you’re there for a quick coffee, a delicious bite to eat, or simply to soak in the incredible scenery, it’s a place you won’t forget. Highly recommend!
I love the view from here and the staff is friendly. Birds hang round to keep you company. I liked the cappuccino. Got the breakfast burrito, was greasy, filling enough for two people. Again the food and coffee are not great but it’s worth the view! Again you really can beat the view not windy and you get to see amazing lookdowns to the ocean. Dogs are not allowed of the parking lot level

atmosphere is absolutely 5/5 stars. beautiful!!!!! sat here for hours & chatted & played card games with friends. staff seemed to be moving fast as it was quite busy, but it resulted in burnt-tasting espresso shots for all of us. none of us would reorder coffee, it was poor quality, and extremely pricy for what we received. but the view was just lovely!!
Pastries were bad—extremely dry and flavors were bland. Service was poor—no one was at the desk for about 10 minutes when we arrived, and they were not friendly at all when they finally came out. Despite being completely outdoors, (large concrete patio with very little shade), dogs are not permitted. Views are stunning, like most places we visited in Big Sur.
Food was good (but coffee was bad), service was friendly, and views are great. But my god the flies make it impossible to enjoy anything, there are so many flies everywhere it's almost unhygienic
Maybe the worst cappuccino I have ever had. I feel like you have to try to make it that bad. The views are great though which is why most people come here but you can get good views anywhere in Big Sur. I don’t think this place is worth it by any means.

Not dog friendly! Despite a beautiful open patio and our pup being a calm, quiet small dog. The cashier said to grab a menu, sit anywhere and order at the counter, paused and then said “and dogs aren’t allowed” as she was standing next to us the whole time.
