Everything that we tried here was bomb. Highly recommend both grilled and fried calamari, it was very tender. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was great for big family dinner.
We are spoiled with the number of Greek restaurants in Astoria but I often pop into Bahari as it feels like you’re eating with family. I always feel welcomed in, can share a laugh with the staff, and leave very full and satisfied. Fun taking friends cause then you can try more dishes together 😋 already craving my next visit for saganaki.
Overall a great dining experience. The grilled octopus was one of the best I’ve had in the city. An unexpected complimentary dessert served at the end of the meal. Service was attentive, the dining table and bathroom were kept clean. Will definitely come back.
As per normal, shortened review such as full dish descriptions due to char limit compared to the other site. I hosted a meal at this tasty Greek restaurant a few months ago with a large group, having been there years ago, back when they were Stamatis. The staff were very friendly and patient, offering recommendations for our large group on food and drink, whether it was wine or otherwise. I believe I had a glass of Assyrtiko, but I'm not sure. We shared a lot of dishes and had a reasonably priced and delicious meal. We got a couple of appetizers to split first. Our first to arrive was the Krya Pikilia. This is available in either a small or a large size, and we went with the latter, which was $21 and generously portioned. Some cucumber slices separated the various spreads, and they also served delicious toasted pita for dipping. The group as a whole loved the potato with garlic and the roasted eggplant, which had a nice smoky flavor. The fish eggs weren't as salty as usual, which was a plus; I liked the spicy feta, though a few others found it a bit too salty; and the yogurt was standard. This was a good mix overall. Our other appetizer was the Elliniki for $17.50 or $14 for the small. This was simple and fresh, but in retrospect, I probably would have preferred the agourontomata due to the large amount of bell peppers, as the best parts were the good-quality feta and the tomatoes, which the latter highlights. It was still pretty good, but I would only recommend it if you like green bell peppers. For main dishes, the place focuses on seafood, and we ordered a few. First was the dish I regrettably couldn't eat due to my cephalopod allergy. This was the Oktapodi Scharas for $28.75. The dish came with two meatier pieces, as well as one thinner, more grilled section that focused on the tentacle. I could tell by cutting the dish for the table that it was extremely tender, and everyone loved it, with many people also using some of the remaining pita to dip into the very flavorful oil on the bottom. The other seafood dishes were two Psari Scharas listed at MP/market price. The waiter went through the various options, and as we were getting some other food, I went with one around a pound and a half and another just over 2 pounds, with the prices at the end being pretty reasonable for the size, from what I recall. They also asked us if we wanted the whole fish or a filet, and we got the former, as many people, including myself, wanted the skin and didn't mind dealing with bones. Our choices were the Tsirpoura and the Lavraki. Of the two, I preferred the texture and flavor of the lavraki, but both were grilled perfectly. The rest of the main dishes were from the Kreatika Sta Karvouna section and all dishes here came with a choice of vegetable, potato, or rice. The surprise hit of the night came from there, the Sykotaki Moscharisio for $24.50. The liver was grilled perfectly with a wonderful texture and a very mild offal flavor. For the side, I ordered the Patates Lemonates, which were standard. There was also the solid Biftekia for $23. This came with three reasonably sized pieces of tender beef. There was finally the Arni Kokkinisto for $23.75. This was the most basic presentation of any of the dishes, with the lamb being tender but not that flavorful, so I probably would get the ground beef version next time. This was partially fixed by the side of spanakoryzo, or rice pilaf with spinach, which was tasty with a good texture. Sides in preference order- Spanakoryzo Gigantes, Patates Lemonates, Faolakia Yahni, Arakas. At the end of the meal, they gave us each a free dessert, which I believe was semolina pudding, or halvas simigdalenios. It had a mild sweetness to it and a slightly gritty texture. A few others didn't like it, but a bunch of us did and happily had their portion as well. This place was reasonable, and the food was high-quality. Combine that with the friendly service, and there are obvious reasons why this spot has been around for so long. I would recommend them if you're looking for a casual Greek spot.
Bahari Estiatorio is one of Astoria's standout Greek spots, especially if you appreciate truly fresh seafood. The fish selection is excellent simple, clean, and perfectly prepared so the quality really shines. Everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully done, without being overcomplicated. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined, and the service is knowledgeable and friendly, especially when it comes to guiding you through the fish options. A great place for a classic Greek meal focused on freshness and quality
I was here back in May 2022, as several locals directed to this spot to cross off my Greek Food craving! Forgot to take photos of the food as it was that delicious! Helpful and friendly staff and had a good conversation with them as well!
Everything was absolutely excellent. We got the branzino, grilled shrimp and octopus and a couple other hot and cold mezes/starters and loved every one of them. Service was also great, from the host to the servers, just amazing, everyone was so nice. Can’t wait to be back to try their meat dishes!
First time at this Greek restaurant and it was an amazing experience! We started with the grilled octopus and combo dips. Each one was fresh, flavorful, and perfect with the warm pita. The moussaka was rich and comforting and the lamb chops were grilled to perfection tender, juicy, and seasoned just right. Excellent service by our server George and a cozy atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back and recommend.
Great food. Sone of the most authentic greek food you can get. Got the Red Snapper, Quail, Fried Cod, Leg of Lamb, Calf Liver, Octopus, and Baby Shark. Very good food definitely recommend. Service was good and they gave great recommendations for wine. Definitely a good place for dinner and would come back here again.
Bahari is a staple in my families rotation of restaurants in Astoria. The food is fresh and flavorful. I love the Tzatziki, Lamb Chops, and Greek Salad. The Octopus is soft and cooked very well and the vegetable dishes are great. This is my grandpas (Pappoús) favorite restaurant so it has to be good! Highly recommend checking this place out.
Came looking for authentic Greek cuisine and was not disappointed. The menu has lots of great Greek options and the food was all delicious, fresh, generous, and made with good quality ingredients. It was a comfortable and friendly family-style place with nice service. Order the Greek coffee at the end! We will definitely be returning.
Awesome and authentic Greek restaurant in the heart of Astoria. Limited ParkNYC parking available right behind. Pace was packed on a Sunday afternoon - 5pm, we thought the odd hour would mean an empty restaurant. We went with the dishes Gemini / ChatGPT recommended - calamari, Krya assortment of spreads, with main course of lamb chops, chicken souvlaki, and a market recommendation of branzino. We loved every dish. The complimentary sooji (semolina) halwa was a great finish. A Greek beer and/or a Greek coffee will round up the meal.
The food was great and delicious, but the service was disappointing. Went there with 4 good friends on a Tuesday evening and while there were other customers seated inside, it was not full, however they were persistent on trying to get us to leave. Our check was brought to us without us asking for it. Needless to say, my friends and I will not be going there for a dinner again.
We got the grilled octopus, quail, fasolakia lathera, and lemon potatoes. The grilled octopus by far was the favorite. Texture and flavor were amazing. Quail was a little dry. I think next time, we’ll stick with the seafood options. Those also seem to be the more popular offerings. Sides were solid. Seems to be a good place for family dinners and gatherings.
Expected more but in general not bad...average. Waiter was yelling to some poor guy(staff member) in the front of guests, not nice!!!
The lamb was really good — flavorful, tender, and cooked well, just served at room temperature . The appetizer with the different dips was good and so was the house one. If the above had been the whole meal, I’d easily give this place 4 stars. Unfortunately, the chicken was a big letdown. It was bone dry and even a bit burned, which really took away from the overall experience.
The environment was nice, but overall, the experience didn’t live up to the expectations. I was surprised by the big difference between what we received and what others posted in their Google reviews—especially the $28 octopus dish, which came with just three tiny tentacles. I saw photos from other diners showing portions nearly twice the size. I'm not sure if there were other factors involved, but it felt inconsistent. The other dishes were a normal size, but the T-bone steak was just okay. Honestly, I think I could’ve gotten a better sear on it myself at home. All in all, it wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t go back. There are plenty of better options around—that’s just my opinion.
The food is great. My partner loved their steak. The service could have been better (waiter disappeared a lot. The Bus Boys were amazing. Honestly they did more than the waiter) The hostess was a really nice woman but the waiter to me felt like he didn't want to serve us. The food was exceptional. Had to take everything home after the meal. DO NOT FILL ON BREAD. Trust just get the salad and your meals and you will enjoy. Decor was great and pretty spacious.
One of the weirdest dining experiences I’ve had. It’s a decent atmosphere, especially for the area. But our waiter was seemingly angry at us, shouting back our order and telling us not to order something because other people had gotten it. (3 of us ordered the same things at 7:40 and then were told they only had 2). Then food came out at all different times and we saw our waiter server another table in between. The food itself tasted pretty good, but the entrees were just plates of meat with separate sides of basic rice or a single potato. Never seen anything like it.
I went there with friends. The food was good but what I didn’t like getting one price of 131$ for the meal and when me and my friend go to split the check. 74$ was charged on both our cards which is a 148$ total. The checks aren’t digital they are hand written so when I asked for them to produce a check showing the “tax” they brought the manager instead. I asked them why the prices were different and they gave some flakey “taxes and every one in the area does it like that” answer It really jus rubbed me the wrong way and I won’t go there ever again
