Avaliações de Geido Brooklyn
We love getting sushi at the bar. It’s always delicious and quick. The service is consistently good. I like the art. Sometimes there’s a wait.
Even among the number of sushi bars that Park Slope boasts, Geido stands apart even if it doesn't stand out from the street. Reasonable prices, high quality, solid menu - it can roll with the much pricier heavy-hitters from across the river. Service is attentive and friendly, the space is chill, and of course the menu never disappoints.Go early for toro, because it sells out fast.
I use to live in Park Slope and visited Geido at least once a week. The fish is always fresh, the atmosphere is wonderful. Osamu has done a great job! Every time I am in New York I always visit Geido for sushi and a wonderful experience! Do your self a favor and check it out. You will not be disappointed!
Great sushi and Japanese food at a very reasonable price. Friendly staff and quick service. Rotating specials and all the classic offerings you might want. Recommend the una-don (teriyaki eel over rice)!
Always fantastic- I have tried dozens (possibly hundreds) of Japanese Restaurants in NYC, and Geido is my favorite. I have never once in almost 30 years been disappointed by anything on their menu and the Pork Katsu Don is probably the best in the city.
Best sushi in Brooklyn. We love you Geido! Don't ever leave us! Some of our favorites: salmon special roll, Okra salad, broiled salmon collar.
Geido is legendary. It's where my girlfriend and I had our first date, and where we're eating tonight. Such a sweet place with such good sushi. Really a neighborhood classic. And a father-son place! Love you, Geido
Perfect Japanese food restaurant. The ramen is delicious, the sushi rolls are fresh and all different. The staff is friendly and helpful. They are open for lunch from Friday to Sunday but the rest of the week is just for dinner.
I always pass by here and always was curious, with one window and a door. I tried this place last month, there was a wait but the host was accommodating and just in general had a happy attitude. The portions were large for the price. The walls were decorated by writings and drawings. I would come here again since we only got to try a portion of their menu.
We take visitors to Geido whenever we want them to have a fun, uniquely local experience that also happens to have terrific Japanese food. Geido is a lively, family-friendly place, making it great for younger visitors who like Japanese food, or who like trying new things. The sushi is very good, but the real novelty here, and the things I think they do best, are the izakaya-style plates, which are not usually served in sushi restaurants. I would call this more of an izakaya that has great sushi. DO NOT MISS the okonomiyaki, which is not a very common item on menus in the city. It's a wacky pancake stuffed with veggies and sometimes shrimp, and covered in various sauces and dancing bonito flakes. I have never gone wrong ordering from their copious selection of specials, written on a big whiteboard, which hangs over the main, art-covered wall. Last time we went, we ordered the shrimp stuffed tempura shishito peppers. I could have eaten an entire plate with a glass of sake as my dinner. At the end of our meal, we asked for pens, and the teens happily signed their names, took a picture, and promptly posted it, along with pictures of the big plate of sushi and the okonomiyaki. We all had a great time, and it made us really happy to see that we were able to successfully entertain and feed two 16 year old girls. We have brought our Japanese friends, our younger cousins from Italy, American family... Everyone has a good time and enjoys the food and atmosphere.
Geido is back—albeit for takeout only—and as good as ever. Osamu San, his son Kaz and his expert team continue to offer the kind of food you can only find in Tokyo: great Japanese sushi and comfort food. Order online and enjoy a lovely takeout version of their excellent standard fare while we all try to get through this.
Long live Geido. If you seek quality sushi at fair prices, search no further. Geido is a local community hotspot but many folks travel great distances to eat here, which isn't surprising considering how good it is.
Authentic Japanese run by Japanese owners. Been around since 1985, when sushi was considered really weird in America. The head sushi person/maybe owner is still there making sushi. A true gem that has survived many decades and hopefully many more to come.
The sushi here is excellent. The atmosphere is informal and comfortable. Service is good. Prices are extremely fair. What more could you want?
Great local sushi and Japanese spot in Prospect Heights! Love coming here for a nice chill evening, nothing too fancy but just solid quality food at an affordable price
The ambiance here is like no other sushi restaurant I've ever visited. The urban graffiti style decor of the walls intrigued me from the get-go. The gyoza are ever so lightly fried - done just right. Don't miss their spider roll (soft shell crab and other ingredients such as cucumber, avocado, lettuce, and spicy mayonaise, rolled inside nori and sushi rice). Super flavorful!
What used to be such a treat to go to has become depleted with mediocrity. The portions have shrunck by 25% along with the flavor of the food which used to be amazing. The business here is always booming so I wonder if the rent went up? I just wanted to com back and update my comments. I have gone back several times since this review and Geido has gone back to its former glory. It must have been a one time thing.
Very good food! Waiter was very friendly! Cold soba noodles 10/10 and very reasonable too with large platter of veg tempura
This is our go to sushi place in the Prospect Heights area. It's usually busy, but we've never had to wait long. Atmosphere inside is unique, and food and saki is great.
Delicious sushi and warm service. Truly a gem of a spot.
Absolutely loved dining here! Food was delicious (especially loved the recommended appetizers), prices were super affordable, atmosphere is cozy, and the service was perfect. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Highly recommend this family-run restaurant! Such a neighborhood gem :)
Everything about our GEIDŌ visit was amazing. The yaki udon was one of the best noodle dishes we've ever had — such great flavor throughout! — and our sushi/sashimi combo and specialty roll (dragon) were excellent as well. Service was fabulous and we even got some complimentary tea while we waited for our food (it wasn't even a long wait, just incredibly kind servers). Highly recommend!
My favorite restaurant! The food is always fresh. The best sushi hands down. Some of my family's favorites are the gyōza, spicy tofu soup, chicken katsu curry and the super dragon roll.
This was my first time eating at Geido's and I was not disappointed. We had a choice of bar or table and opted for the table. The location is not huge but comfortable. The servers are very attentive. The menu is available via QR Code on the table. The food was fresh and arrived quickly. The pricing was very good. I will definitely be returning.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! It’s my hidden gem. I found this restaurant about 7 years ago. I go on special occasions because of how authentic and delicious it is! Not pricey at all. It’s not fancy but it’s very authentic in its own NYC-way. If you go, you MUST MUST MUST try Mackerel. It’s the best I’ve ever had! Love it here. Service is always fast and great. Always have had a good experience. I absolutely recommend it if you’re in park slope, but even if you’re not, it’s worth making the trip out to!
Geido is simply a treasure. The atmosphere is incredibly homey and non-pretentious. I love the graffiti walls. The sushi melts in your mouth. Highly highly recommend and will always come here when I’m in the area
My favorite sushi restaurant of all time. Been coming here since I was a child, and the food has remained consistently great. Anytime I try a new sushi restaurant, I rate it on a scale of 1-Geido (10).
10/10 in every aspect. The best Sushi experience in Brooklyn. We come here every week.
I’ve been going to Geido since 2001 & they never disappoint. Great food- both the sushi and the hot food. Great service. And if you’re lucky you might even find a small spot on the wall to scribble your name and some gratitude!
In my opinion, some of the best Sushi in the Prospect Heights area. There is a wait on busier nights but it is worth it, the service is wonderful and the staff super friendly. The sushi chefs will always give you a slight bow if you applaud them or give them a thumbs up after a great meal, and trust me you will want to do that.
I've been going to Geido since I had to sit in a little baby-chair that my parents would clip onto the sushi bar, and 30 years later I still go as often as I can afford to. Osamu has done an incredible job. His staff is friendly and competent, the fish is always as fresh as you could want, and the atmosphere is just downright pleasant. It's a real neighborhood restaurant, and you feel welcome the moment you set foot inside. I've never found another sushi bar that I like more than Geido, anywhere I've been.
Delicious Japanese fare with daily specials! I tried a few of these, dishes I've never even heard of before but everything delicious! Pleasant staff and comfortable atmosphere! I've been a fan for years, maybe 2 decades!
You would love this place. First time there on Sunday, 7/23/2023. I looked to see if they had a delivery service, only to discover they wouldn't be open until Wednesday. I wanted to order delivery their tempura and vegetable soup. The food is good and their children's friendly is good.
Osamu San - you are the greatest sushi man on the planet. I love this place. I’ve been coming here since I was 18 years old and we owned a restaurant across the street (castillo de jagua). Hands down the best sushi I’ve had outside of Japan. Love you osamu San!!!!!! - kojiro
Solid old school and reliable sushi joint. No frills and no drama; good food, large menu, and great service. Can get busy so be mindful. Great value for what you get. Omakase is not fancy but on point and very affordable.
One of the best authentic Japanese cuisine is offered at Geido. Everything is fresh and flavorful including sashimi and sushi. For those who are not keen on raw seafood, they do have cooked items on the menu to satisfy almost any palate and they are not greasy. This is a neighborhood gem and so glad I live nearby to enjoy it often!
First time coming here, wish I knew about it earlier. Special shout out to Kaz for making us feel very welcomed. And of course the apps and sushi were all top notch. Will definitely be heading back for my Brooklyn sushi fix.
Who knew that a great sushi place in NYC could be so relaxed and casual, funky and hip. Geido has great sushi (try the Obama roll for sure) and great ambience. Enjoy the graffiti laced walls while watching your sushi being prepared. The restaurant is small, so there may be a wait, but it's well worth it.
One of few authentic Japanese owned sushi restaurant in Brooklyn. Friendly staff and decent sushi. Thank you
Fourth time here; salmon here is spectacular. I really like the Oyako special.
My absolute favorite restaurant in the city. Cozy, delicious, affordable, humble, and incredibly welcoming.
I’ve been a regular at Geido since they opened in 1985. Osamu is an excellent head sushi chef/owner and he only hires the best to work with him at the bar, in the kitchen, and on the serving floor. It’s a relatively (considering the area) inexpensive restaurant which does not skimp on quality and presentation. Very friendly community vibe. I love Geido. My goto restaurant in NYC.
Delicious sushi in a Brooklyn ambiance. We had 3 rolls to share, edamame, and saki and had a great time. Service friendly and quick. Try the Mexican Roll, we were pleasantly surprised that it was our favorite of the ones we picked!
I Pulled up to GEIDŌ A Local sushi spot out in Brooklyn. Real lowkey from the outside, but once you step in, the vibe is clean. Warm lighting, good energy, staff locked in. Me and the boo were in the mood for some sushi We sat down, looked at the menu and I seen that royal chicken katsu on Google and instantly knew it was gonna hit. I ain't even hesitate. When it came out? Bruh. Perfect crust, juicy inside, sauce was sweet with a lil umami on the back end. 8.9 easy. It was crispy in all the right ways you could hear the crunch when I bit in. That alone set the tone. Then we hit the rolls kept it classic. Salmon avocado roll? 8.5. Fish was fresh, avocado was clean, and the rice wasn’t soggy. Just solid. Tuna avocado came next that was a 7.9. It was solid, but it ain’t touch the salmon. It needed a lil more tuna The California roll was what you’d expect — nothing wild, but they made it right. Fresh crab mix, rolled tight, no complaints. Now that veggie roll? Nah. I tried to give it a chance, but soon as I bit into it I was like why does this taste like Thousand Island? That’s a 6.1. I ain’t finish it. Overall? GEIDŌ’s a solid move if you’re in Flatbush. The katsu’s worth pulling up for alone. Rolls are fresh, vibe is mellow, service is quick. Next time, I’m doubling up on the chicken and skipping the veggie rolls. Would I come back here again absolutely 5 out of 5 stars!
Came here by myself and sat at the sushi counter. This is going to become a regular stop for me! Had a miso, the chilled okra and some sushi and a bottle of dry sake 😛. High ly recommend the okra!! The prices were really reasonable too & any vegetarian would be really happy here.
- My girlfriend and I had a wonderful experience. - Staff was very attentive, helpful, professional, and courteous. - The sushi chefs are quick and wonderful to watch at the bar seating. - Food came surprisingly quick with a full house. - The food was great. We had the sushi & sashimi melange, Brooklyn roll, Obama roll, spicy salmon roll, and the California roll. Everything was delicious and fresh. - We would definitely come back in the future.
Lovely place to have a date or a small group outing or to eat out with kids, very friendly atmosphere with generous portions and quality for a fair price point. Order the plum wine! Usually it is too sweet for me but this one was perfectly mild and paired well with everything we ordered.
Geido is THE BEST sushi in the neighborhood and well worth the stroll to pick it up (there’s no delivery currently). Everything is always delicious and fresh and we’ve never had a bad experience with our orders. The inside has a cool vibe and the staff have always been so nice, helpful, & quick. Geido is the GOAT REPOST: Came in-person this time for a family dinner of 7 and was so pleased yet again with Geido. Even though they don’t take reservations the Geido staff worked hard to accommodate my family and me. Everything was delicious in person and the staff was friendly and helpful. Perfect spot for a simple and delicious in-person meal. Love you, Geido
The food and the vibe here were so good that I dreamed of Salmon Teriyaki the night after my dinner at Geidō....Just to show you how lovely these people are in this plate of Uni. You will see what it says after you finish the dish(lol). This is a place you can relax, chat, watch baseball game, and enjoy delightful and delicious sushi with your friends and families.
Small but comfortable restaurant serving really fresh and very well prepared sushi and sashimi for a pretty reasonable price! Solid sake selection and mugs of sapporo bear! Love that place and will surely go back.
Great first meal at Geido! We will definitely be back. The sushi for 2 was excellent; flavorful and beautiful. I would highly recommend checking out this neighborhood gem.
Reliable neighborhood Sushi joint. Great for causal date night, catching up with friends, family in town, etc. Good value
This is as good as it gets for sushi in New York City, ie, Brooklyn! Fresh, top quality sushi in an incredibly friendly environment. Awesome vibe from neighborhood people who have been frequenting this establishment for numerous years!
This is far and away the best Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood and the most authentic Japanese experience. Prices are great, the food is delicious, the vibe is neighborhoody and convivial. And one of the few places where you can get okonomiyaki!
The best Japanese resto in the neighborhood! Get’s packed by locals at 6-9pm. One of the few sushi places here run by Japanese staff and has donburi bowls not available in most places (Katsudon, Veggie-Don, Oyako-don). The price reflects the food quality and service. Faves are: Brooklyn Roll: just order it! High quality sashimi, perfect sushi rice and addictive crunch! Salmon Kama: generous serving, crispy skin and tender meat Katsu-Don and Veggie-Don: bowls of comfort! Love the generous toppings and yummy dashi flavoring the rice. I can almost give up meat with the Veggie Don. Takoyaki: really good too
Homey Japanese restaurant that serves great quality sushi and several other dishes. Service was friendly. Space was larger than expected. Parking can be tough, but close to trains and worth the trip. Can't wait to go back!
FOOD FOR THE PEOPLE (Read in voice of @japaneats) This is no fancy restaurant. It’s your run of the mill local shop that resembles home-style cooking. And it’s great. [insert jokes]. Jokes aside, it’s a place you can eat often. The food isn’t too decadent and the bill certainly won’t break the bank either
Amazing sushi and ramen/udon spot. I can’t wait to come back, and will recommend it to others. I highly recommend getting the vegetarian pancake with bonito flakes, it is suppose to come with pork belly, but I asked them not to include that since I was eating with a vegetarian. I had ramen in my friend had mushroom udon, and we were both very full. We also got hot sake, which I highly recommend, it’s always a great addition to any meal :) The service was wonderful, the staff was very kind and attentive. Thank you!
A great sushi place for the family (with kids). Food is good. The menu is relatively varied, but not too adventurous for the squeamish. For example, I recall eel but not octopus. Prices are reasonable. The cost is on par with better grocery store sushi, but the quality is miles better. But the best part is the staff. They are friendly and helpful (great). And they make this place family friendly. The full party policy is crisp, but fairly applied.
Great Japanese restaurant!!!!! Great service and food. I don’t have anything bad to say about this place. Fried items did not taste oily, they were just right! Nabeyaki udon is a pretty big dish, I recommend to share with others. Fried ice cream was probably the one of the best I ever had. Pour alcohol (sake?)on top and light it before you eat. Nice presentation. We enjoyed everything we had. Located near the train stations.
Best sushi on the east coast!!!! We ordered a collection of sashimi and sushi and so happy with everything we got. Prices are right. Restaurant is busy and staff is super nice. This will be our go to spot from now on. Forget the other places nearby, geido is the best of the best!!! They also have gluten free Tamari and very well versed on what dishes have soy sauce in it. No spicy mayonnaise for me! (Who knew!?) this is also a spot to see old familiar faces because everyone in the neighb is here enjoying their delicious fare.
Hands down one of my fave neighborhood sushi spots. Super friendly staff, no frills sushi with quality ingredients and the master chef sometimes sneaks in a lil' sake for you if you sit at the bar. Absolutely love this place!
Clean, Fresh, Beautiful Flavors. They throw in some unique maki rolls, but this place feels and smalls like you're right off the main floor at a seafood market in a good way. Fresh fish, simply presented and enjoyed
I did like this place. The interior has a cool, almost grungy feel to it which I loved. I will say the fish wasn’t as fresh as other sushi restaurants I have been to in New York and although the sushi was well made there were some dishes that felt like they had been rushed. The edamame for example tasted soft, microwaved. However, the price was so reasonable that I could forgive some of small criticisms. The whole experience was really enjoyable and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
I had this place bookmarked for over a year before my friend suggested it to me out of the blue. Fun place for decent fish. If you're looking to escape the questionable AYCE places in Bensonhurst, but aren't willing to pay a premium, then this would be your joint. Kitschy restaurant, if there ever was one. I can't even start with the carpet situation; the scribbles on the wall, however, brought me back to Takeshita Street in Tokyo. The whole place is an interesting conversation starter. On my 2nd visit, it was New Year's Eve, and since Geido doesn't take reservations, I knew we were in for a wait. I believe we waited a little over 45 minutes for a table of 11. During that time, the host, who was armed with a positive vibe and the cutest dimples ever, was very friendly and engaging. He kept us updated and reassured us that he would try his best to get us seated ASAP. I was very impressed by how he handled himself, considering Geido always has a crowd standing in the black 'room' outside the main restaurant space. I'm going to warn you that it isn't fun to stand in this awkward, unlighted & unheated black hole during the winter. When our bones warmed up, we split the table up so the two halves could share dishes. I was impressed by the fact that Japanese chefs worked the counter. Usually, that means the standards for cuts on the fish and the freshness of the fish can be vouched for. I immediately ordered the uni, but when it arrived, I was disappointed by the color and taste; instead of the familiar bright yellow, I got a dark tinted piece. I was glad that we only ordered a pop each. The rest of the food included various dishes like the spicy salmon salad, sushi rolls- both regular and specialty, udon and rice dishes with tonkatsu(breaded pork). The Obama roll, dubbed a specialty, was an abomination. I didn't know what I was eating because it was shaped like a tempura football. All I got was the fried batter and very little fish. I failed to see why it was even named that as it bore no resemblance to anything that reminded me of our President. The other half of the group also ordered it, and I could see that theirs had more fish within. As I looked over the bill, which was laughable since my math is atrocious, I noticed there was a dish that was unaccounted for on both ends of the table. I notified the waitress, and she was hesitant to credit the sushi plate. She said that no one stopped her when it was placed on our table, but both sides were 100% sure that we didn't even eat it. After some back and forth, she finally acquiesced and removed it from the total. It was a minor hitch, but I could see her seething below the surface. Though it was an average place for food, the casual, but vibrant environment does entice one to return. For fun, not necessarily for food.
A great little place on Flatbush to get a nice inexpensive, high quality Japanese meal. Had the ramen here once which, while nothing amazingly special, was right on in terms of just plain, good old fashioned comfort food. Nice firm noodles, tasty broth, all that goodness. Had dinner here another time and got a plate of Japanese noodles with veggies. Don't remember what it was called, but it was really good. All of the rolls are well done. Everything comes out quickly, and the staff is very friendly. Glad we walked in!
There's an abundance of sushi restaurants in the neighborhood, but none quite as good as Geido. The fish is fresh, the prices are affordable, and the menu carries a mix of traditional and non-conventional sushi rolls. You may have to wait, but it's worth it.
Ummm... This isn't the best sushi I've ever had (or the second best.) I would say the quality is on par with your basic NYC Seamless late night sushi delivery... The mackerel sushi I had was actually pretty bad - way too much vinegar and didn't taste fresh (which probably accounts for the vinegar.) Miso soup was nothing special. So why not just get delivery from Seamless? Well, the other reviews are right - service is fast, friendly. It's laid back and everyone here (guests and staff) seem to be having a good time. Good meetup place for friends- pretty roomy space. Okay, if you want 'alright level' inexpensive Japanese food but don't want to eat it in your apt alone...Try Geido. I'd say you're guaranteed to feel welcome and included. But if you're looking for a higher quality japanese food or "special date" experience... Look elsewhere.
The 2 special appetizers I got were really good (a fried octopus dumpling and a vegetable pancake) but I wasn’t impressed by my sushi rolls (salmon & avo, yam tempura, and shrimp tempura). The tempura rolls were bland. I’d be interesting in trying the other dishes (not sushi) next time.
After coming here several times, i'm very disappointed in the menu items here. Besides the sushi or specials (takoyaki is pretty darn good), many of the dishes on the menu we've tried have been so mediocre. The okonomiyaki is a wet disk of cabbage and onion, the katsudon is just a soggy piece of meat over rice, the yaki udon is just... okay.
After reading Reddit’s recommendation (great value at affordable prices), I had a high hope for my Sunday dinner. However, Geido did not meet my expectations unfortunately. I ordered a cup of plum wine (good), stuffed shishito tempura as the appetizer (good), and “Sushi and Sashimi Melange” as the entree (average). Sashimi are in okay quality, nigiri roll and avocado rolls are also just okay. It’s not that good for me to consider a return visit.
Have been to this place several times in the past and recommend to friends. Place is open for take out now. Extremely disappointing experience this time: dry, tasteless sushi rice in every sushi roll I ordered. Yes, sushi were fresh, but rice outbalanced it.
Was excited to try a new sushi place with high ratings. Got delivery, three rolls and three appetizers. Nothing was offensive but all the food was very bland and dry. Should have stuck to the usual spots.
I have been going to Geido for years and the food quality and service have always been good. All of that changed this weekend when it took them 55 minutes to serve me some raw fish (my friend got his warm food 30 minutes prior). I left a low tip but they went ahead and changed the number on that tip (added $16). I wouldn’t be so petty to write a review but they do not respond to phone calls. If you have any decency call me back to square things out… this is Thief behavior.
I had high hopes, but I was a bit disappointed. I ordered a vegetable udon and a yellowtail scallion roll. The udon had barely any broth. I found myself eating a lot of noodles and seaweed but barely any broth. The yellowtail scallion roll was pretty good but I found a hair under the rolls after I had already eaten two! They did give me a fresh one but it did kind of ruin my experience. I wanted to like this place but will not be back…
What a dump. Mediocre, overpriced food; filthy carpet; urinals filled with ice. The place stunk. Kept getting dirty looks from one of the sushi chefs. If the standards for outwardly cleanliness are this low, who knows what the kitchen looks like. Stay away.
I had a very disappointing experience at Geido. Unfortunately, this was some of the worst sushi I’ve ever had. The fish lacked flavor and tasted like it may have been farm-raised rather than fresh, wild-caught. The hot sake tasted more like cheap warmed-up white wine and gave me an headache. The edamame was stale, with browning tips and no sea salt, completely lacking in freshness. The overall atmosphere felt very outdated, from the decor to the mismatched chopsticks and plates. The carpet was noticeably dirty, which added to the discomfort. What concerned me most was the lack of professionalism behind the sushi bar. The chefs seemed disorganized and rushed, and the head chef was not wearing gloves while handling raw fish. He leaned so far over and breathing on the food that I worried about hygiene. Sadly, this meal left me with a stomachache and deep regret about dining here. I won’t be returning.
