Geido Brooklyn Reviews
Small but comfortable restaurant serving really fresh and very well prepared sushi and sashimi for a pretty reasonable price! Solid sake selection and mugs of sapporo bear! Love that place and will surely go back.
Great first meal at Geido! We will definitely be back. The sushi for 2 was excellent; flavorful and beautiful. I would highly recommend checking out this neighborhood gem.
Reliable neighborhood Sushi joint. Great for causal date night, catching up with friends, family in town, etc. Good value
This is as good as it gets for sushi in New York City, ie, Brooklyn! Fresh, top quality sushi in an incredibly friendly environment. Awesome vibe from neighborhood people who have been frequenting this establishment for numerous years!
This is far and away the best Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood and the most authentic Japanese experience. Prices are great, the food is delicious, the vibe is neighborhoody and convivial. And one of the few places where you can get okonomiyaki!
The best Japanese resto in the neighborhood! Get’s packed by locals at 6-9pm. One of the few sushi places here run by Japanese staff and has donburi bowls not available in most places (Katsudon, Veggie-Don, Oyako-don). The price reflects the food quality and service. Faves are: Brooklyn Roll: just order it! High quality sashimi, perfect sushi rice and addictive crunch! Salmon Kama: generous serving, crispy skin and tender meat Katsu-Don and Veggie-Don: bowls of comfort! Love the generous toppings and yummy dashi flavoring the rice. I can almost give up meat with the Veggie Don. Takoyaki: really good too
Homey Japanese restaurant that serves great quality sushi and several other dishes. Service was friendly. Space was larger than expected. Parking can be tough, but close to trains and worth the trip. Can't wait to go back!
FOOD FOR THE PEOPLE (Read in voice of @japaneats) This is no fancy restaurant. It’s your run of the mill local shop that resembles home-style cooking. And it’s great. [insert jokes]. Jokes aside, it’s a place you can eat often. The food isn’t too decadent and the bill certainly won’t break the bank either
Amazing sushi and ramen/udon spot. I can’t wait to come back, and will recommend it to others. I highly recommend getting the vegetarian pancake with bonito flakes, it is suppose to come with pork belly, but I asked them not to include that since I was eating with a vegetarian. I had ramen in my friend had mushroom udon, and we were both very full. We also got hot sake, which I highly recommend, it’s always a great addition to any meal :) The service was wonderful, the staff was very kind and attentive. Thank you!
A great sushi place for the family (with kids). Food is good. The menu is relatively varied, but not too adventurous for the squeamish. For example, I recall eel but not octopus. Prices are reasonable. The cost is on par with better grocery store sushi, but the quality is miles better. But the best part is the staff. They are friendly and helpful (great). And they make this place family friendly. The full party policy is crisp, but fairly applied.
Great Japanese restaurant!!!!! Great service and food. I don’t have anything bad to say about this place. Fried items did not taste oily, they were just right! Nabeyaki udon is a pretty big dish, I recommend to share with others. Fried ice cream was probably the one of the best I ever had. Pour alcohol (sake?)on top and light it before you eat. Nice presentation. We enjoyed everything we had. Located near the train stations.
Best sushi on the east coast!!!! We ordered a collection of sashimi and sushi and so happy with everything we got. Prices are right. Restaurant is busy and staff is super nice. This will be our go to spot from now on. Forget the other places nearby, geido is the best of the best!!! They also have gluten free Tamari and very well versed on what dishes have soy sauce in it. No spicy mayonnaise for me! (Who knew!?) this is also a spot to see old familiar faces because everyone in the neighb is here enjoying their delicious fare.
After reading Reddit’s recommendation (great value at affordable prices), I had a high hope for my Sunday dinner. However, Geido did not meet my expectations unfortunately. I ordered a cup of plum wine (good), stuffed shishito tempura as the appetizer (good), and “Sushi and Sashimi Melange” as the entree (average). Sashimi are in okay quality, nigiri roll and avocado rolls are also just okay. It’s not that good for me to consider a return visit.
I had high hopes, but I was a bit disappointed. I ordered a vegetable udon and a yellowtail scallion roll. The udon had barely any broth. I found myself eating a lot of noodles and seaweed but barely any broth. The yellowtail scallion roll was pretty good but I found a hair under the rolls after I had already eaten two! They did give me a fresh one but it did kind of ruin my experience. I wanted to like this place but will not be back…
