This is THE SPOT for beer and friend meet-ups in Prospect Heights. The owner is a great dude and treats all of his customers so well. I actually proposed to my wife here, as it was a spot that we both loved and frequented when we lived in Brooklyn. I miss it a lot.
Gold Star is hands down the most awesome beer bar. 5-Star Craft Beer menu, great Music/Ambience and tasty Food Menu. Staff is really nice too. Def one of my favs!
A walk up window to fill a growler! Genius idea! Wonderful variety of beer styles from New York breweries. If you don’t want to fill a growler and go, sit outside or in and enjoy a pint.
I'd normally be annoyed that my fave neighborhood bar has gotten too crowded, but honestly Gold Star deserves it: The staff is super friendly, the range of beers are great, the food is shockingly good (get the charcuterie sandwich!!), the vibe is just-cool-enough and the music is always on point.
Cozy spot with a great selection of beers on tap. Love the vinyl setup right behind the bar. Didn't try the food but everything that came out of the kitchen looked good.
Full marks! Great sport in every regard. Super friendly knowledgeable bartenders, great variety of beer, neighborhood feel. Quaint, good tunes, not too loud. Everything is just how it should be for a quieter corner of Brooklyn.
Great friendly staff and an amazing selection of beers, both hard too find and accessible favorites. Ambience is class with a great helping of homey-ness. A fantastic addition to the new York beer scene that stands out.
Amazing beer selection that constantly rotates and their food is great. Bartenders are the best in the neighborhood, and it's a perfect place for leisurely weekend afternoons.
Go-to beer joint that offers a great variety and allows you to sample until you find one that's just right. Bartenders are lovely as well :) Also, the cold brew is pretty great. Cheers 🍻
Truly the best beer bar in Brooklyn. Amazing selection. Friendly, generous, and knowledgable staff. And great snacks and sandwiches to boot. A gem in every sense of the word.
This place is awesome. Cool atmosphere. Vinyl always on. Probably the best beer list I've seen in all of NYC (changes daily). Charcuterie plates are amazing!
The minimal interior design is gorgeous, well done! Great beer selection. I didn’t try the food yet but it smelled great and looked great!
Impressive beer list. I enjoyed watching people come up to the to go window to get a growler filled or beer quickly. Love the food, quiet place to meet up with friends or to read a book while enjoying amazing beer.
Best beer and coffee! The interior is warm and welcoming. The staff are well versed on everything on tap and the cans you can take to-go.
Excellent beer selection and usually varies each time out which is great because I've suprises. Also, you can get to-go drinks which is great when meeting friends in the park.
Exceptional beer list at, granted, Brooklyn prices. Narrow space with a good dozen spots at the bar, a few smallish tables up front, and larger stool-based areas toward the rear. There's a tendency for areas to get crowded with strollers and the like, but customer turnover is fairly constant, so seats open up continuously. The beer focuses on locals (Grimm, Threes, etc), and highly-regarded brewers from outside NYC (Hill Farmstead, Schilling, anything from Maine they can get). There's small dishes and sandwiches I haven't tried but look great, also. Worth going out of your way for!
Love this spot! They are always SO nice, and I recommend asking them for their suggestions on what beers to get if you're unsure. Every time I've asked for help deciding, I've loved their choices. I have loved using their walk-up window and getting crowlers to take home and enjoy during this time. I don't have a dog but since they give treats to dogs (I think?) it's always good dog watching too, while you wait.
Family friendly (thanks Brooklyn bar culture). Surprisingly nom foods (even the vegan options, and I am mostly carnivore). The best staff. I generally go weekly bc they are on my way home from work and it's been consistently exceptional.
I would come here every day if I could. Fantastic rotating selection of thoughtfully curated beers. A small food menu but full of perfect bites, meats, cheeses, and sandwiches that are good for either a small snack or to make a full meal. A casual and friendly place- you can meet a friend or have a quiet drink by yourself. And don’t forget the walk-up beer counter outside. Overall- perfection.
Friendly, helpful staff and an excellent selection of beers. They do some light bites too, though we didn't try them. There's a nice atmosphere inside, mellow lighting and well kept restrooms. Would recommend to any craft beer fan.
Gold Star always has a great selection of beers on tap and in cans or bottles. The bartenders are usually friendly and give honest recommendations. I get my beers there to go, but I've heard it's a good local spot to chill as well.
This is my absolute favorite place to grab a beer in Brooklyn. Great cozy vibes inside, sitting outside is also immaculate on a warm night. You can’t go wrong here especially with the rotating beers. Always something good on the menu!
Great spot, best decaf IPA I've ever had while I was working. The meat and cheese are also spot on!
This was such a great bar, beautiful inside with a great selection of beers. Highly recommend even for visitors.
Great atmosphere. The draft beers are always changing but the beer menu will always have staple varieties (pilsners, IPAs, etc.) and some esoteric beers. Excellent staff. If you hang around enough you'll hear music you enjoy but may have never listened to. All around a great bar.
AMAZING and very special craft beer selection that rotates often. Bartenders all really know their stuff and are happy to talk to you about it. Standing room is limited, so it can feel a little awkward on crowded nights, but the beer is worth it!
The outdoors seating is great spring through fall. Nice neighborhood feel. Great selection of beer on tap, and they make growlers and crowlers to go. Great all around.
This is a really nice Brooklyn beer counter with a large collection of rotating beers. I've expanded my tastes because of the wide selection. The staff is courteous and Josh, the proprietor, runs a clean and welcoming establishment. I highly recommend you check it out.
Fantastic beer selection, and bar tenders who really know the products. Great environment to grab a few drinks with friends. Not a ton of seating, but that is due to it being a great place that attracts a crowd.
Amazing, consistently rotating beer selection!!!! The people who work there are incredibly knowledgeable and will help you find what exactly it is you are looking for. Great place to hang! You can also buy beer, growlers, and crawlers of any beers they have on tap to go. This place is a must for all beer lovers!!!
Always a great selection of craft brews here. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to recommendations as well. They can get a little pricey, but hey, it's better than drinking a Bud Light.
Best mood best beers best bites, bit of a strollertown sometimes but what can you do
one of the best bars in the neighborhood. comfortable, well-designed, and warm, with a great beer selection!
The bar keep was friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is chill with good music. The beer is always great there.
This place is so great. I didn't get the full vibe from their website, but it's like a super gastro-pub/winebar-ish beer bar (#beeristhenewwine?) with a spectacular selection on tap. They even have that crazy side pull Czech tap for their Pilsners. I know, opinions and a-holes and all, but maybe a hand-pumped cask ale?
I'm very picky about beer and I love this place. They have a rotating list of taps, the friendly staff will let you taste a draft before you buy. The printed beer list has descriptions. I love that they have foreign as well as domestic beers, especially Belgian and German beers. The list is mostly American Craft but there are always 2 or more imports. They take chances too with smoked beers and barrel aged. While other places may serve only IPAs and sours, you can get those at Gold Star but also a Fantome! The outdoor beer window that sells 32 and 64 oz growlers is great too, you can.pick up a growler while walking your dog. There are a couple of sandwiches on the menu, both delicious. They are always nice. I have never purchased cans or bottles here either to stay or go. I would be careful about buying cans and bottles here. I see them displayed warm and that's not good for most beer. Maybe check and see if hey also have cold beer for sale. Perhaps the ones left out are only for display. That would make sense since this is an excellent beer bar. The interior is pretty as well, it would be a good place to impress someone who likes decor. There is a lot of wood but it's still light and airy.
i’ve never purchased anything here but they let me pee once so i love them forever. nice clean bathroom.
Such a great spot in Prospect Heights! Really friendly service with a consistently great beer selection. I also love that you can get cheese and charcuterie plates
Excellent beer selection with a rotating draft list that has something for everyone. Super knowledgeable staff and really friendly, happy to help you pick out the perfect beer for you! Edit: has some outdoor seating for the warmer weather and/or to go cans to pick up from the window. The cans are also rotating and there's always something new and delicious to try. Update again bc Google keeps prompting March '23: still great! Love the selection and picks by the bartenders when I ask for a suggestion. Overall great bar and good vibes!
It’s so cute and lovely, a part of me wants to gate keep it. The best beer garden I have been to in Brooklyn. Great rotating selection, oftentimes all the way from beautiful Vermont. It’s almost impossible to not be enticed while walking past it.
Awesome place! Drinks are priced very well, they have an amazing cheese dish (the mustard was so good), and you won't go deaf after spending some time in there! Lots of seating but never feels cramped, it's easy to grab the bartenders (who is nice and attentive) attention to get the drinks, and the bathroom is well maintained. All in all, awesome!
One of the best beer bars in the city. I wandered in around 1 pm on my day off, sat at the bar and had a few fantastic pours while listening to great music they had on the record player. Their beer selection is always well curated and reasonably priced. I love this spot.
Such a sick beer bar. I actually went 2 days in a row and the draft offerings were slightly different each day. BTW that's a good thing! The staff is very knowledgeable, and friendly, especially the bar back Delio(?). The decor is kitschy but also classy. It feels like a well lit basement in some 70s sitcom. The music was perfect to drink to. I didn't have any food except the nuts, but it looked high quality. I will say that the bottled beer to-stay seemed over priced. But maybe I'm wrong about that. Definitely a new favorite spot.
Awesome selection of beers on tap here, not to mention delicious snacks and sandwiches. The Charcuterie Sandwich is my favorite for lunch or dinner, but I also enjoy the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Interior is comfortable and stylish, with a small assortment of plants and beers on display. However, seating can be limited during busier hours, so keep in mind if you have a large group. Great music too, favorite in the area.
Great selection of beer and cider. Love the takeout window and that they do coffee and pastries in the morning. The guys who work there are all very knowledgeable and are very generous with samples because they actually want you to enjoy what you are getting. Great ambience, wonderful neighborhood beer bar.
Excellent selections of fantastic beer and always changing it up. Very knowledgeable and friendly owner and staff. Excellent sandwiches from the kitchen. The outdoor vibe is chill, but difficult to get on a nice day. Always worth it.
Great beer, great atmosphere. Josh, the owner, is very informed about their beer selection without being pretentious at all. My friend and I just sat at the bar drinking a few beers I'd never had before while playing Yahtzee to pass the time. It was a perfect and chill night.
Great place to try new beers, either to stay or to go. They always make excellent recommendations for me. Outdoor seating is excellent for people watching, there's always people with dogs or babies hanging out. Very friendly and relaxed space.
Incredible beer list. Crowlers to go. Simple food but super tasty, I have loved the olives beer cheese and sandwiches I’ve tried. I love during nice weather brining my dog here and enjoying a beer outside. They give him a treat at the window and now he’s obsessed with coming here. My husband is a beer snob and they always have something that excites him. They spin vinyl inside. The staff is super nice & not snooty but approachable. I learned they do coffee and pastry’s in the morning and now I’ve been going for coffee on my morning dog walk which I is so nice bc now I have a destination.
Best neighborhood spot in all of Prospect Heights. Staff is personable, efficient, and have great music taste as they put on perfect to the mood records. Foods solid to go with the beer.
It’s a unique spot in the Prospect Heights residential neighborhood in Brooklyn, quiet and cozy duing the day, so you can spend hours working and enjoying craft beer, later it becomes busier but never overcrowded. It has 16 rotating taps, you’ll always find something new. They have a really good vinyl collection with alternative music. Food is very good with a variety of snacks, sandwiches and quick bites. Before noon they serve the best poor over coffee in the area. Totally recommended! 5 stars.
Awesome beer selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff, nice lighting and ambiance. The bar snacks are something I've always found myself getting and enjoying as well, which isn't something I can say about most bars I frequent. I always make my way over here when I'm in the neighborhood.
This place is really special. It does what it does perfectly but without too much bravado. The interior design, the music, the beer selection, and the small plates all show evidence of genuine care & excellent taste. Even just the way they slowly shift the lighting throughout the evening is clearly well-thought-out. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and seem to really enjoy being there. Every time I go the vibes are amazing. Few places I’d rather spend an evening.
I stopped into Gold Star today for an early lunch and was absolutely blown away by how amazing the grilled cheese with tomato soup was! Best grilled cheese I have ever had. I paired it with the dark lager they had on tap and man oh man - was it the perfect combo. 5 Stars for Gold Star!
Solid beer selection, great lighting/relaxed vibe, plus they spin records on a vintage setup.
A neighborhood gem. Now that the outdoor seating is back, it’s better than ever. New parents, dog owners, and remote workers kind of fill up those sidewalk tables during the day. Inside is a mellow vibe - they play complete records from their eclectic and decrepit collection. Keeps it interesting if even sometimes I feel like they deliberately play bad music at the end of the night to clear the place out. Fantastic beer, heavy on the ales and sours. Decent prices, if you call $9-$11 per beer fair. Staff is always nice. The sandwiches are surprisingly delicious. Every time I’m here I think how lucky we are to have such a great spot in our ‘hood.
Came by about a week ago and it was such a nice experience. The bartender was really friendly offered great beer suggestions. Will definitely come back
Gold Star Beer Counter nails what most places miss. The music is local and right — unexpectedly amazing — like someone actually thought about it instead of hitting play on some corporate streaming service. You can feel it’s picked by the same personalities you see at the bar, not a marketing team in another time zone. The vibe is warm, unforced, and human. No branding exercise, no playlist ‘strategy,’ just a room that knows exactly who it is and lets you enjoy it
This is a very cool beer joint with large and interesting selection of beers. The place not your average beer bar, but rather a Starbucks that serves beer instead of coffee. This cool place to socialize and even to work. I gave 3 stars just because they serve good sandwiches, but not omg, but again it is just an option to have with an excellent beer. The place is next to the local celebrity- Radio bakery, so if not in the mood to stay in a long line, or they run of their goodies, this place is a great substitution
Overall rating: 4.8 Super cute spot near the Brooklyn museum. I already knew it was going to be a great place just by the other reviews, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to be snooty or anything. Super chill, but very popular! My friend and I got lucky and got seats at the bar, but I could totally come here solo which is why I like it a lot! Beer is crafted and good. It’s a tad bit bright but looks like people come to work, read a book or hang. The staff was really nice and I like how simple the menu is. I don’t think I’d eat any snacks here, but I can try it out when I come back. Such a good find & highly reco!
Local craft beer bar with a very relaxed vibe. 16 rotating beers on draft served in a single size to stay, or a crowler to go. The bottle and can selection is by no means the largest I've seen, but very well curated. Bottle pours are sometimes available. The food menu consists of sandwiches, meat & cheese, and some basic snacks. BYOV (bring your own vinyl).
Nice place, would like to see less fruit flavored beer selections. They hold your credit card while your there in a box, that makes me uncomfortable although they seem to have the procedure down. All in all a nice business idea, I hope they do well and we will visit again.
Fun beer bar, in a quiet neighborhood. Good people watching at the outdoor tables. The only drawback is that I don’t find the interior to be a particularly comfortable space, so go when it’s nice outside and sit outdoors.
Mellow neighborhood haunt where patrons are left to their reading or conversations and beer is flowing in ever-changing flavors. Wonderfully insulated from NYC chaos and the bartenders will happily help you pick a brew. Sometimes service can be a little toooo low key, bartenders could acknowledge newcomers better. Little hatch opens to serves coffee in the mornings too...
Really nice spot. Try different beers on tap. Lots of unique options. Stay in or take it to go in a growler. Small cozy place with limited seating. Sleek retro vibe. Can't come in? You can grab some beer to go from their sliding window open to the sidewalk.
Visited last night with a friend. There was a great selection of beers with all different styles (I had an excellent sour my friend had a farmhouse ale) they were playing really great music and the staff were friendly. You can taste a sample of the beer before you order which I love. The only reason I didn't choose 5 stars is I wanted a wine but they only have been. It was also a little uncomfortable "designed by a man" said my friend haha
Phenomenal beer selection and delicious snacks. Great ambiance. I can't say enough good things about this place. I was with a friend who wanted wine and the bartender found us a beer that tasted a lot like wine! Brilliant.
Solid neighborhood bar with rotating taps and a well curated beer list. Bottle selections are also enticing and tasty. It’s a great place to hang out when it’s a hot day or cozy up with its wintertime. Beer prices are a bit more than other bars, but the quality of the beer list more than accounts for it.
A great place to grab a cold one right from the street window. Then enjoy it at an outdoor table. The many beers on tap cover a wide range of styles but little depth in any particular style. There are also interesting bottles and cans available for further investigation. Winos are pretty much out of luck however.
What a fun place to have a beer. While there outside seating weather permitting, the inside is warm and comfortable ith a great atmosphere. Nice selection of beer; we enjoyed a stout with hints of coffee and maple syrup that was perfect for a cold night. The fact that the alcohol content was 12.3% helped warm us up. Check it out if you are in that area of Brooklyn.
Overall a pretty hip spot to pop in for a beer. We grabbed seats at the counter area in the middle and found getting seats pretty easy midday. They have a good selection and I enjoyed the IPAs we got. Bartenders friendly and attentive. I'm not totally sure what the point of the window is, I guess if you're sitting outside to make it look cuter getting a beer? Only one bathroom for the whole place, so be on the lookout when you have to go.
Great rotation of beer selection from $8-12 for a pour. Cans for here or to go. Lovely shaded outdoor seating which gets packed during happy hour. Baby/stroller central at times, which can be a pro or a con depending on your life stage. Food available if you have too many and don't want to leave.
A short macho-presenting bartender just yelled in my face when I went to the window to enquire what cider he recommend me last time. “How should I know what you ordered last time!?” came off super rude and made me want to just walk off. I gave 3 stars since the first time I went there with a friend was all right, mostly because my buddy was there, the cider was crisp, and inside there was comfortable lighting. I will avoid even passing by this dive in the future. If he had allowed me to describe the label/flavor and that it came in a wine bottle before speaking to me harshly & rushing off to go back to the other bar guests, maybe we could have come to an answer. I’ll go try to find it at a wine shop and invite friends to my place where I can create a better atmosphere. As if I didn’t need another reason to move out of this pitiful neighborhood, now I have another one. Most people in Prospect Heights/Park Slope are the sort of miserable upper-middle-class that’ll leave you drained of enthusiasm for life if you stay too long. I see why a bartenders here would be snobby as well, considering the surrounding Zeitgeist.
Went here on a Saturday around 5:00PM and it was baby central: youngish, brownstone-dwelling, Prospect Heights parents with their strollers folded up in the back, all having a couple beers as their newborns puked on themselves and made gurgling noises. Otherwise, a nice place with a small but decent beer selection. They play vinyl selections. Bonus points for playing the entirety of London Calling.
We ordered two beers and the smoky fava beans, only to find a worm in the food. We brought it to the waiter's attention and requested a refund, but he refused and responded rudely. Don't go near there!
Food was great, atmosphere wasn’t bad, but this guy who was bartending was showing a lot of attitude to a few customers including myself, not sure what his problem was but he can go to hell. Other than that the rest of the staff was great
