Marco Polo has been around since I was a kid, 30 years or more. Now I see why, I took my Grandma there for her 89th Birthday dinner and everything about the place is excellent. It's old school, personable high quality service. great menu, the staff is impeccable. I wish I can give it 6 stars
Had just a lovely dining experience here. Went for a double date with old friends and the restaurant was true to the other reviews I read. Old-school Italian ambiance, excellent food - I had the fettucine which was prepared in a cheese wheel table-side - and they have the most amazingly attentive maître d' who perfectly timed every course and every wine refill. Look forward to coming back here next time I'm in town.
Truly classic Italian restaurant, the owners are very wonderful people and the atmosphere is great. Their restaurant is beautifully decorated with marble and granite. Expect nothing but the best from them, you will leave very happy and satisfied. The menu has a nice variety and they have awesome daily specials. If you are in Brooklyn and looking for great Italian food and wine, this is the place.
Marco Polo is an elegant restaurant. The menu is thoughtfully prepared and offers the best selections of Italian cuisine. I've been there several times and never had a disappointment. Its a neighborhood treasure.
I love the ambiance and food! The host was extremely pleasant despite a busy hectic February 14th. She kept her cool at all times, quite amazing! Our server was excellent. But the busboy was visibly irrated with us, he kept asking us if we were finished with our appetizers and main course. The first time he came by we said no, he made a face and looked at his wristwatch. Our server came by too, he told us to enjoy our meal, quite a different experience compared with the busboy. We left around 1015-1030, a lot of empty tables so I didnt understand the rush. Anyway, I'm still giving our experience here 5 stars. House made pasta was hearty--heart shaped ravioli!!! They have a great wine selection. The dessert was pretty delicious too.
I had a full course lunch at Marco Polo for a family event. The food and service is very good here. They have a bar, not a BYOB. They have valet service which is a real plus as parking can be difficult in the area. They have access to a garage down the block. The owner who has been in the restaurant business for 36 years, was on premises, which is also a plus. I cannot comment on the prices since I was a guest at a family party so cannot rate it for value. Overall, a nice dining experience.
The place was amazing! they had elegant dining room and a spacious seating. Great food. they have a very nice and friendly staff, and they provide an excellent service.
Very delicious food! Both my boyfriend and I had the red wine fettuccine and it was so delicious. Beautiful restaurant with an excellent ambiance!
Been coming here for over 25 years. Food is authentic. The server's host all around staff is just amazing. If you are looking for a quick bite under 20 bucks this is not for you. Good food cost. Will continue supporting this restaurant.
Visiting our son and his wife in Brooklyn we went to Marco Polo for Saturday dinner. The cavatelli and risotto were to die for. The drinks were generous and the service exceptional. We ate like kings and can’t wait to return. It is classic and gracious.
Wonderful atmosphere; amazing food. Happy Hour is a good value.
The food is absolutely delicious, highly recommend this place.
We had a private lunch with 30-40 people and Marco Polo did a great job: fresh salads to start, high quality rigatoni lightly sauced, and I had the hanger sauce with a wonderful sauce. Nice piece of cake to finish. The one piece of broccoli however on the plate was lame. Great service, never felt rushed.
Exceptional food, fantastic staff and atmosphere, a true treasure, definitely a must do when in Brooklyn, 5 Stars!
I recently had the pleasure of hosting a bridal shower at Marco Polo, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, everything was handled with the utmost professionalism and care, making it a perfect celebration for the bride-to-be. Service: 5/5 The service at Marco Polo was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure every guest felt special. They were incredibly accommodating to all our needs, making sure the event ran smoothly. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality were evident throughout the event. Food: 5/5 The food was absolutely delicious! Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. We had a variety of options to choose from, and each one was a hit with our guests. The flavors were exquisite, and the portions were generous. Special dietary requests were handled with ease, ensuring everyone could enjoy the meal. Atmosphere: 5/5 The atmosphere at Marco Polo was simply enchanting. The décor was elegant and tasteful, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The private dining area was perfect for our gathering, offering both intimacy and a sense of celebration. The overall vibe of the restaurant added a touch of magic to our special day. In summary, Marco Polo exceeded our expectations in every way. The combination of outstanding service, delectable food, and a charming atmosphere made for a perfect bridal shower. I highly recommend Marco Polo for any special occasion—you won't be disappointed!
Most of the people inside were eating it, and it looked delicious. You can't beat traditional perfection, and a taste of culture., Favorite restaurant in all, I highly recommend it, will not disappoint!
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting. Restaurant is clean. Service is spectacular! Many specialty dishes cooked to order. Went with a party of seven including a toddler. Everything that we ordered was absolutely delicious. For starters, the drinks are refreshing. Mojito and sangria. Appetizers were tasty. Main course was delicious. I had to taste everyone in my parties. No complaints. Dessert was yummy. Highly recommend!
This old-school Italian joint is a gem. Walking in feels like stepping into someone’s kitchen, and the owner treats everyone like family. The food is unbelievable—chicken parm that’s perfection, marinara straight from Nonna’s recipes, and lasagna that’s pure cheesy magic. The customer service is top-notch, with the owner making rounds, sharing jokes, and ensuring your glass is never empty. This place offers incredible food, warm hospitality, and authentic Brooklyn charm. Do yourself a favor and go!
I would recommend this restaurant, very good service our waiter Mario was very polite and friendly his service was excellent… He took very good care of us. I ordered the salmon it was very buttery and nice it just melt in your mouth and babe order the other fish it was very great. Ps ask for Mario he will take good care of you.
First, the service was great. The menu didn't have identifiable prices, but the food was great. I had the chicken with artichokes. The atmosphere was soothing. I would totally come back for seconds. For one person, my plate with a Pellegrino sparkling water, the total came to $38.69. a little high for my tastes, but worth it. Always remember to tip your server. I tipped 20%.
Wonderful neighborhood institution. We ordered a wide range of dishes and everything was fantastic. Really friendly and professional service from start to finish. Looking forward to the next visit.
We were a group of 7 and they were terrific. Their house specialty parts, Fettuccine vino rosso was terrific, scallops fra diavlo special was great. The service was terrific. My wife and I are there 35 years ago, just as we remembered it.
Had a 75th birthday party here and could not have been more pleased. Delicious cocktails, bread, starters (fried artichokes, arugula salad), gnocchi, tiramisu. All fabulous! Warm and gracious staff. This place is a gem!
Stopped by Marco Polo while the kids were at the Barclay Ctr watching a Nets game. Found parking right across the street. Started with Expresso martinis🍸🍸 Delicious as always! Service perfect, not rushed at all. Had the linguine with clams, fried artichoke hearts, fantastic salad, topped with dessert, cappuccino & expresso.👌
Best restaurant. I love their food it’s always incredible and their service is always fast. I went once last year and have became a frequent!!
Awesome old school neighborhood restaurant. Classic, subtly elegant and authentic as can be.
We were here for a party. It was a wonderful party and a wonderful experience overall. We were in the private room upstairs. Food service and atmosphere were all great! The pasta was al dente. The salmon was delicious.
This place was perfection in every way! Our waiter Nick was so personable and pleasant, he added to how good every aspect of our meal. From the baked clams to our main courses to the Italian cheesecake. My Pasta Negroni was superb, and my Valentine's butterflied stuffed pork chop was tender juicy and delicious. I grew up with a mother whose food was loved by all. The food at Marco Polo is authenticity Italian. We were both impressed with the beautiful decor. We will be returning to Marco Polo for our next special occasion!!!
I had the pleasure of dining at Marco Polo Restaurant upon our COO’s invite, and my Russian-speaking colleagues. We were all thoroughly impressed with the restaurant. The food was exquisite: the oysters were absolutely delicious. For my main course, I had grilled salmon which was very fresh and flavorful. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious and enjoyable meal.
Had a surprisingly delicious and well-attended meal here. Husband said was the best lasagna he’s ever had. Everything tasted homemade and fresh. I had the red wine fettuccine that gets tossed in a Parmesan wheel which was fun and very good. Dessert was also good and I don’t usually like cheesecake! But again it tasted fresh, homemade, authentic. Nice staff too! Classic Carroll Gardens spot. Glad we finally tried it!
This family-owned gem has been serving authentic Italian cuisine for 42 years, and every dish is a testament to tradition and passion. From the warm welcome to the cozy, old-school ambiance, the experience is as comforting as the food. Beyond the delicious traditional food, the service is exceptional—attentive, friendly, and full of heart. Whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth, you’re treated like family. In Marco Polo remains a true classic. Five stars, every time!! Highly recommend
I've been coming here for years one of my favorite places the food is excellent and the servers and people that work there are really kind and friendly people, every time I come back in town I go there for dinner or for lunch, love this place. 🥰
My bf and I just moved to the neighborhood and got dinner here our first night we arrived. We loved it. The service was so sweet and the food was delicious. This will definitely be our go to Italian spot close to home ❤️
Hands down, my favorite Italian restaurant anywhere. I might adjust that after I go to Italy, but I'm not so sure. Everything about this place is perfect. If you've ever watched the movie, Moonstruck, and saw the local Italian restaurant in the film, you'll feel like that at Marco Polo. Although Moonstruck was filmed one neighborhood away and the restaurant scenes are not Marco Polo, the feeling is very similar. I love this place.
We went as a family for Thanksgiving. The food was excellent. Our wait staff was attentive and professional and able to recommend a great wine at a reasonable price. Great place for a date or with your family. Not inexpensive.
Was looking for an Italian restaurant in Carroll Gardens. Came across this place and am happy I did. We came kind of early in the day, so we were the only people there. The food was delicious! Everything hit the spot from the fried artichoke appetizer to the vodka bucatini and the pork chop.
After a very stressful day we had the pleasure dining at Marco Polo Restaurant and we were not disappointed!!! Service was exceptional and our meal was excellent with a delicious glass of wine to complement the dinner!!! Annie and Bruno
I went here for my little lunch with family and friends. All of my guesses kept talking about how great the food was (listen, if you are coming here, come with an empty stomach bcuz there's a lot of delicious food) Recomendations: Strawberry Rose Daiquiri, Pasta pappardelle short rib ragu, branzino filet
Food was delicious and staff were so friendly and attentive. They have lots of space indoors and outdoors although there were more people inside than expected, in terms of social distancing. A little expensive for me but worth it for a special date night. Breakdown: 1 appetizer, 2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees,1 delicious! peach sangria, 1 dessert = $130
5 Stars From start to finish, the Marco Polo Team made my husbands' 40th birthday an absolutely unforgettable evening. Every single detail was flawless the setup and ambiance were stunning, the timing of everything was perfect, the food was delicious, and the drinks were spot on. A huge shoutout to the two servers and bartender, who were incredible. Their attentiveness, warmth, and professionalism made the night feel effortless and so special. Matteo was completely surprised and loved every moment. The care, thoughtfulness, and extra touches the team put into the event truly shone through. Our guests are still raving about how amazing everything was. Hosting with Marco Polo feels like being with family both Marco and Flavia were so easy to communicate with throughout the whole process. We are beyond grateful and will absolutely be planning our next event here. Thank you again for making such a milestone celebration so extraordinary!
Marco Polo is one of the best Italian restaurants in Brooklyn. The food is fresh and authentic, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is perfect for date night or family dinners. If you’re looking for amazing Italian cuisine in Carroll Gardens with consistent quality, Marco Polo is a must-visit. Always an incredible experience!
Our dinner at Marco Polo Italian Restaurant was one of those cozy, laughter filled evenings that linger in your memory. The place has that classic Italian charm, warm lighting, soft chatter all around, and a welcoming staff who made sure everything flowed smoothly from the moment we sat down. We ordered several dishes to share. The oysters came bubbling under a layer of golden cheese, perfectly seasoned, with a squeeze of lemon that lifted all the flavors. The pizza had that thin, slightly charred crust crisp on the outside, chewy inside with just the right balance of tangy tomato sauce and melted mozzarella. You could tell it came straight from a real pizza oven. We also had lasagna and their porkchop. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and even though the restaurant was busy, the atmosphere stayed relaxed. Everyone around our table was smiling and enjoying themselves kids included which says a lot about how family friendly the place is. If you’re looking for an authentic Italian spot in the city that makes you feel like you’re part of a long Sunday family dinner, Marco Polo is it. Delicious food, good company, and that home-style warmth you can’t fake. Highly recommended for both intimate dinners and big group meals alike.
Anyone who gives this place less than 5 stars for anything does not understand traditional Italian American food or culture. Almost no one does a Caesar salad properly- Marco Polo and spots on Arthur Ave in the Bronx are the only ones Every time I come here I am reminded of home and childhood. I saw a few 4 stars for atmosphere- the place is perfect.
Highly Recommend!!!! Marco Polo is a Carroll Gardens staple, established in the ’80s. I stopped in there last night for the first time for dinner, and I can see why it’s been a neighborhood favorite for decades. Marco, the owner, is not only an incredible chef but also one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. The staff is warm and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. The food was outstanding. The spicy vodka sauce was absolutely delicious—packed with flavor and just the right amount of heat. I also had the rigatoni bolognese, which was incredible. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente—any Italian knows that’s the only way to eat pasta. Marco Polo is the kind of place that reminds you why classic neighborhood restaurants endure—fantastic food, great people, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’ve already told my friends about it, and we’re planning a night to go back for dinner together.
One of finest Italian restaurant I've had in a long time. Gnocchi with tomato sauce and fried calamari was perfection. Service was just as great! It doesn't get better than this! Thank you Marco Polo!
We randomly came across Marco Polo in Brooklyn and decided to give it a try – and we’re so glad we did! This place is a hidden gem. The food is super fresh and delicious. We ordered the calamari, Margherita Pizza, Chicken Parm with pasta, and Spaghetti Della Spezia, and everything tasted homemade and flavorful. They also have this fun Paint & Sip workshop during happy hour where you can paint your own espresso cup while sipping on wine – definitely coming back to try that! The staff was friendly, and the whole experience was just awesome. Highly recommend checking this spot out!
Me and my husband threw my daughter a baptism party in Marco Polo , it was the best decision we’ve ever made. Food was beyond expectation , cake incredible, and the service was grand ! Thank you Marco for making our dreams come true with this party !! We will be back soon 😍. (Also we totally forgot the rest of our cake and went back the next day to pick up some decorations and asked the staff if they had the left over cake and they didn’t but they made a mini cake for us to eat and enjoy all over again ! ) P.S Their Espresso Martinis and short rib pasta are beyond words.
First I’d like to thank Marco Polo Ristorante for their absolutely excellent service in the catering hall for my daughter’s 1st birthday party. From start to finish, the planning, the service, the food, they went above and beyond to make sure it was everything we wanted and more. Their staff are top tier, the food is another level, fine imported ingredients and house made fresh meals. Our guests truly could not stop raving about the food. They gladly worked with us to make sure we had a variety of the things our guests would love. The staff tireless worked to clear tables, check on guests & made us feel like they were a part of our special day. Let’s be honest, it’s not everyday you can feel this way when hosting a large 100 person party these days, they really set a bar for excellence. So much so that I couldn’t wait to go back and dine at their restaurant on the 1st floor. I came back this weekend just for that for my birthday dinner. What a memorable food & dining experience. Traditional style meets elevated & modern. Not your average Italian menu, but captures the essence of the traditional cuisine. Once again, impeccable service, make you feel as though they really value servicing their guests. I can’t say enough great things. Special thank you to Marco for picking an excellent champagne & providing 5 star service. We know we will be back for more.
One of my favorite Italian restaurants in Brooklyn! It is truly a delight. I always feel welcomed as if I am at home, making it a remarkable experience. The entire team go above and beyond to make the dining experience special. The food is phenomenal, the service is spectacular, the ambiance is marvelous, culminating into a grand experience. Highly recommended! Believe me your experience will exceed all your expectations!
Food was amazing! Everything was so delicious and the staff was so warm and welcoming. We ordered a few things that he recommended to us and overall the whole experience was very pleasant. Definitely coming back here again for some homemade pasta! Happy we accidental stumbled upon this gem.
Marco Polo was a good dinner experience, even though we had to wait for 35 minutes to be seated. We had a reservation for 8.30pm but waited till 9.05pm for a table. The food is delicious and presented well. The wait staff is very professional and welcoming.
Excellent location and great vibes. Romance in the air in this place! Great for a nice family gathering too. place is beautiful as well, well stocked bar and AMAZING FOOD. only complaint i really have is some of the food is over priced for the portion that you get, and that sometimes you have to wait awhile for servers to come to your table. First time i went service was perfect, they were on top of our every need, cleaned out table of any crumbs as well mid meal - second time we went, we kept having to wait 20 mins to even ask for a glass of water or something. This place is great; if it wasn't for the secong experience, this place would have a 5 star rating.
Another amazing restaurant in Brooklyn New York Carol Gardens. It’s a superb Italian restaurant that I have been going to for many years. One will never get disappointed with any dish the fish is delish, the pastas delicious, the salads are fresh, coffee is superb, desserts are incredible and the drinks are amazing.
I've been going to Marco Polo now since 1984, with the transition back to Marco in the kitchen I'm taking over the restaurant and the closure of enoteca if you're disabled and you're unable to climb stairs there's no restroom for your needs, the food is good quality nicely prep but this in mind is a true inconvenience to those of us with a disability. Mr Annecchiarico Avellino, Italy .
Just had the artichoke chicken, it tasted like good home cooked food, but not great home cooked food. A little too oily and a little under seasoned. It was worth $17 not $25. Overall it tasted good though, worth trying on a cold night if you live close by.
Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and it was delish. Plenty of good food options and I opted for the New Zealand rack of lamb. Wasn't disappointed and it wasn't outrageously expensive for a dish either. They take reservations and a very accommodating for larger groups. Great friendly staff, made it for a great night.
The staff is great. Very fast, professional. The food overall was good, a bit too salty for me. I asked for a medium rare, it was a bit more cooked but was very soft I did enjoy it very much. I got the beet salad with fig sauce. Too much sauce and too sweet. Clams were amazing- also a bit too salty. It was pretty calm for a Saturday night I liked that. They could be a bit more elegant by simply changing the tableware, candles and lighting. Overall a very good experience.
Very welcoming, and some dishes were excellent! Try the pasta special (made in a Parmesan wheel), Branzino, Misto Frito appetizer, Gnocchi, Ravioil or the Pesto Rigatoni! Skip the squid ink pasta and beet salad. They need to work on their background music. The desert menu could be expanded.
We were seated in the side section which is often overlooked by waiters and have less attention while the main section is empty. The food is fine but not worth the price.
Went there for Thanksgiving dinner. It was pleasant enough. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. The Turkey dinner , however was not special. It reminded me of a TV dinner with similar presentation. Glasses of soda were served in wine glasses with ice about 3 oz for $2 . Service was generally excellent . The upstairs dining room was more of a catering or party hall. Non Thanksgiving items such as steak , ravioli, chicken were a much better value and tasted and looked better.
Appetizers were decent. Service was inattentive. We had to get our own coats out of the coat check. Do yourself a favor, do not order the gnocchi.
Service and atmosphere is top notch, but the food is disappointing. Been a few times and it just doesn't deliver the goods. It always seems like it's going to be the best Italian food in the neighborhood and then it's not. Not bad in any way, but not good enough either. I hesitate to criticize this place because I want to love it... but I don't.
Food was ok , The waiter didn't make me feel comfortable , He kept looking over to our table, My good friend Norma has frequent this Italian restaurant for year's, with her late husband , It's a possibility that I may not return to this restaurant, Great place to frequent I believe, If they change the waiter that serve us, remember is about the experience that one frequents a place, i just like to feel like I'm home, I don't care if is a Italian restaurant or a puerto Rican restaurant ,
Not bad, but not adorable. At this time, it's an okay place with a nice space, but I wouldn't wake up craving Marco Polo's food. Essentially, it's edible but......not incredible. Okay "local" place to eat out if you live nearby. I wouldn't travel a distance to eat at this restaurant.
I would give 3.5 stars for the food but the overall experience is great. The menu for large parties is different from the standard menu, so some of the dishes featured and we saw come out for big tables we couldn't order. We ordered the frito misto and the calamari was perfectly cooked but the batter was not crispy, the shrimp was awesome. The side sauce was missing salt. The Caesar salad was delicious but I thought it could have had a few more croutons. The pasta with pistachio pesto was perfect, al dente, delicious sauce, shrimp cooked exactly right. The pasta special in the wine sauce was a bit overcooked but the sauce was delicious and the cheese rounded it out.
Made a reservation weeks in advance and still took over 15 mins to seat us as they made a makeshift table all the way in the back. They don’t know how to make real Italian food. It’s very overpriced and underwhelming. $55+ steak was fatty, small and had no sides. Hot Antispasto looked frozen. They also don’t know how to make sauce. Fra Diavlo was just regular marinara with a slab of linguine. Didn’t even provide small utensils for the lobster or an extra napkin. Cheesecake was not Italian cheesecake. Very disappointing experience.
Quite disappointed with our food! PROS: Great and friendly service!! The staff were all very welcoming and attentive! CONS: Seafood quality was NOT good in our fried calamari/shrimp (dried out, tasteless), seafood pasta (seafood was not cooked in the sauce and very bland), and linguine with clams (very bland and the smallest clams and shrimp I have ever seen in a restaurant).
I brought my family to Marco Polo to share a Thanksgiving meal. I had made reservations and waited in line like everyone else. I was at the front counter with my family when someone with their family walked through the door the manager came over walked around us, smiled at the man and proceeded to seat his family. I was not in a rush, I had no problem waiting in line, but the sheer lack of respect for my family placed a damper on our Thanksgiving dinner. The food was pretty good unfortunately the portions were very small. It's clear this restaurant is focused on padding its bottom line. They couldn't even bring us over a second piece of bread. With all of the choices available in Brooklyn, this place has seen better days and needs a complete interior renovation.
I heard good things about this place so I decided to take my mom for her birthday. I was extremely disappointed in the service and how we were treated. The waiter was not attentive at all. My mother didn’t even get to choose her birthday dessert, they didn’t even ask anyone at the table. They just brought her tiramisu and she doesn’t even like tiramisu. Completely unorganized and the supervisor or owner wasn’t apologetic about the experience at all. He could care less and should be ashamed how his staff let alone him treated me and my family. They single handedly ruined my mother’s birthday. Go at your own risk.
The food was bland and I didn't enjoy it much. I had higher expectations from the other reviews. The oysters came asked in water as all the ice had melted, yuck. The ravioli's mushroom and lamb filling sounded intense on paper, but it was a bland mushy paste. The sage sauce was okay, but not worth the asking price for me. The staff insisted a few times that I get drinks and I appreciated that they brought up mocktails, but the third time they asked was too much.
This might be the worst restaurant I have ever been to. From the service to the food. Horrible over priced experience. Clumsy waiters. Had to ask for complimentary bread. Which was stale. Menu was changed for the worst. My daughter had the risotto, disgusting. My wife had some red wine infused linguine which was horrible. I got an app. Fried calamari and shrimp. Which had no flavor and frozen not fresh. Never again!!! DONT BOTHER SAVE YOUR MONEY!
A gentrified Marco Polo. What a shame!!!! Don’t waste your time or your money coming here. The staff is rude and the food was awful. We were greeted by the hostess with blonde hair . She saw us with our baby and our own portable high chair. The hostess asked us not once, but three times to use their own wooden high chair. We told her three times back we are using OUR own portable high chair that attaches to the chair, which our baby is comfortable in. Then we were approached by the waiter who seemed to want to rush us out because we had a baby. Handed us a wine menu instead of a regular food menu and asked us for our order. We JUST sat down. Literally. Anyway, we ordered and I got the linguine white clam sauce. The clams were awful- sandy and fishy. I pray i dont Get food poisoning from the clams that’s how bad they were!!!! Before we left, the hostess asked the waiter “did they pay?” As if we were going to walk out on them and not pay. bizzare !!!! Never again!!!! Please go to Cafe spaghetti on union street for better food, better people, and a much BETTER KID- friendly atmosphere! Don’t know what happened to Marco Polo - this once amazing brooklyn gem down the drain!!!
SO many better options. Horribly overpriced mediocre Italian food.
food is okay, nothing to rave about. the service is horrendous. came here for a party and I was absolutely appalled by the unprofessional staff.
